How did they do it? Romney campaign explains how it kept the biggest secret in politics

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney talks with senior adviser Beth Myers aboard his campaign plane before taking off Aug. 2 in Centennial, Colo.

WASHINGTON & JANESVILLE, Wisc. -- Mitt Romney's months-long vice presidential selection process came to a close one week ago in a dining room in suburban Massachusetts, where Wisconsin U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, dressed casually to avoid detection during commercial flights, told Romney he would accept the GOP candidate's offer to join the ticket.

For the Romney campaign, Ryan's meeting with Romney, in the dining room of chief vetter Beth Myers last Sunday, was the result of a process that began in April, and wound through several secrecy-cloaked months without major leaks before culminating in Saturday's rollout in Virginia.

Even the rollout was an example of both a flawlessly executed bit of secrecy and stagecraft and improvisation when events did not go as the campaign planned. Myers told reporters the Romney campaign originally planned to announce the pick Friday in New Hampshire, but with Ryan attending a memorial service for the victims of a shooting at a Sikh temple in his district, the plans were changed to Saturday.

All of this information was a closely guarded secret until Saturday night, when Myers, in charge of VP vetting, offered reporters a glimpse inside the process.

The Romney campaign kept its running mate a secret until Saturday morning, a strategy that yielded big fundraising dollars. NBC's Pete Alexander reports.

The vet
“I had one directive: The candidates must be qualified to take office on day one,” Myers said of her appointment to head the VP search on April 16. “Around May 1 we created a short list.”

Throughout the process, Myers said, one thing was clear: "This was Mitt’s decision.”

Myers chose not to disclose a full list of who was considered for the No. 2 spot, but many of the names have leaked out: former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio were vetted, as were Ohio Sen. Rob Portman and Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell. Portman and McDonnell received calls Friday night to inform them they were not the pick.

Myers told reporters she established a system, approved by Romney, to quietly vet candidates after asking if they were interested in the job. A team of lawyers worked with Myers in a secure room of the campaign's Boston headquarters. No copies were made of any documents, and everything was locked in a safe when the team left at night. No documents were allowed out of the room.

Romney tries to define Ryan before Democrats do

Included in the data collected by Myers and her team: congressional voting records, an exhaustive questionnaire and "several years" of tax returns -- she did not say how many. Romney has come under fire from Democrats and many in the media for his refusal to release more than two years of returns, despite reports he released several times that amount when he himself was vetted as a possible ticket-mate for John McCain in 2008.

Throughout May and June, Myers and her team pored over data, presenting information to Romney, who discussed his thinking with a small group of advisers, including the campaign manager, senior strategists and close aides. When the Romney campaign convened a retreat for top donors with major GOP figures in Utah in mid-June, Myers met with several contenders to clear up lingering issues and ask follow-up questions.

“He [Romney] talked with a lot of people,” Myers said, adding that she felt it was important to keep her own opinion to herself. “I did not share my thoughts on who I thought it should be”

The vetting of Ryan – or at least when he began to know about it -- lasted nearly six weeks. Just days before the June 5 gubernatorial recall election in the Badger State, the congressman’s staff started compiling hundreds of pages of documents to submit to the Romney campaign, such as public statements and op-ed pieces.

Ryan never let on publicly whether he was being vetted or not throughout the summer months. He always dismissed questions surrounding his VP possibilities. That, sources say, played into Ryan’s strategy: keep expectations of VP possibilities incredibly low and just be a team player.

On July 2, the day she was famously photographed in Wolfeboro, N.H., meeting with Romney on his back porch, Myers presented her boss with completed dossiers on the final candidates for him to absorb.

On Aug. 1, when Romney returned from his week-long foreign trip, he was ready to make a decision. He met with Myers in her office in Boston and placed a call to Ryan. Could they meet in person for a discussion?

The offer
By August, reporters had begun to whittle down the short list of possible candidates and to keep a close eye on the top contenders. Despite this, on Aug. 5, Ryan quietly slipped out of his home and, dressed casually and wearing a hat and sunglasses to obscure his appearance, drove to Chicago, where he boarded a flight to Hartford, Conn.

There, an unlikely emissary was waiting for him in a rented car: Myers’ 19-year-old son, Curt, who picked Ryan up and drove him from Hartford to Brookline, Mass., and his mother’s dining room, where Romney was waiting, having been driven down from Wolfeboro that morning by Secret Service agents.

Obama gets his target with pick of Ryan

Romney described the meeting to reporters traveling aboard his plane Saturday night.

"We talked about the campaign and how it would be run and talked about how we’d work together if we get the White House," Romney said. "What the relationship would be, how we’d interact and be involved in important decisions. But we talked about our families, what this meant for them, what kind of challenge it meant -- those are the topics we discussed.”

Ryan also met with a handful of top Romney staffers, and when Romney officially extended the offer to join the ticket, the seven-term congressman was thrilled, if not surprised.

"By the time we met in person I kind of knew it was going to happen, and I was very humbled," Ryan told reporters Saturday. "It was the biggest honor I’ve ever been given in my life.... I Love this country dearly, and I feel we have an opportunity to fix things once and for all."

When the shooting happened Sunday at the Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wisc., Ryan handled the fallout from Massachusetts, never telling his staff exactly where he was. If it wasn’t for the unforeseen tragedy that took place in Wisconsin’s 1st District that day, Ryan’s staff likely never would have known their boss was out of state at all. He flew back that night, undetected.

The House Budget Committee chairman kept his schedule intact for the entire week leading up to the announcement including spending three days filming commercials for his congressional re-election campaign. Ryan never let out his secret to his campaign staffers, who were working 12-hour days with him on the ads. They will begin airing next month in his district – in Wisconsin, you can appear on the ballot as both a vice presidential candidate and running for a congressional seat.

Ryan spent the middle of the week traveling in northwest Wisconsin stumping for local candidates – all along knowing his life was about to change. But these long car rides gave him plenty of private time to speak with his longtime friend and chief of staff about his new role.

Escape from Wisconsin
Keeping the Romney/Ryan pairing a secret for the next week proved to be an Olympian challenge. A boomlet of support for the Ryan candidacy drew increased scrutiny, and reporters such as NBC's Alex Moe were staking out Ryan's home, chatting with the candidate and his family and keeping tabs on their movement, lest they slip away again undetected.

Myers said she thought Moe might be close to solving the mystery.

“She did a great job,” Myers said of Moe, whom Ryan likened to a family member in a recent interview. “We knew we had to be very diligent in throwing her off the scent.”

And diligent they were, moving Ryan's family undetected while he was attending the Friday memorial service. Ryan told reporters earlier in the week his family was planning a trip to Colorado, departing on Saturday, so packing seemed unremarkable.

Early Friday morning, the congressman’s trusted chief of staff, Andy Speth, arrived in his red pickup to take Ryan to the memorial service, with reporters in tow.

Ryan returned home in the early afternoon and went inside through the back as he was locked out of his side door, telling reporters who stood watching on the sidewalk he must have forgotten his keys. That would be the last time anyone saw the congressman in Janesville, because sometime after 3 p.m., he exited his home into the back yard (where reporters couldn’t see) and went into the woods.

"I grew up in those woods. The house I grew up in backs up to the house I live in, so I know those woods like the back of my hand.  So it wasn’t too hard to walk through them. So I just went out my back door, went through the gully in the woods I grew up playing in. I walked past the tree that has my own tree fort I built back there," Ryan said.

Escaping via the woods isn’t something new for Ryan, either. It is a tactic the congressman has been forced to use before due to protesters in front of his house. Ryan is used to cutting through the bushes.

Waiting a couple of hundred yards on the other side: Speth, who took Ryan and his family to an airport in neighboring Illinois, where a private plane would whisk them to Virginia.

Back at the house, Ryan's sister-in-law, intentionally left behind, turned out the lights just as news was beginning to leak that Romney would announce his pick Saturday, turning the eyes of the world on the town of Janesville.

When Moe knocked on the congressman's door that night, after NBC News confirmed he would be the vice presidential nominee, no one answered. Ryan was already hundreds of miles away.

The rollout
While Ryan was on his way to meet once again with the man at the top of the ticket, Romney was busy on the phones, informing other candidates from the short list that they had not been chosen. Portman and McDonnell received calls that night and may not have been the only ones. Romney had already called Pawlenty, a tireless advocate for the nominee and a staff favorite, on Monday.

When the Ryans landed in Elizabeth City, N.C., an hour south of Norfolk, they were whisked away to a Fairfield Inn hotel -- again, by Myers' son Curt -- and met by a handful of top Romney aides. The family ate takeout from Applebee’s with Myers, and worked on speech prep. Then, Myers said, as the campaign sent out an advisory telling the world that Romney would announce his choice the next morning, Myers turned off her phone.

Ryan placed a phone call to his mother around midnight to let her know he was in fact being tapped as Romney’s right-hand man. He called his siblings the next morning just hours before he gave the biggest speech of his life.

Ryan and his family loaded into two cars for Norfolk first thing Saturday and were driven to the USS Wisconsin, the site of the announcement. The rest is history.

"Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney introduced his choice as running mate, House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan"

It should say "Presumptuous presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney..."

So I was wrong all these weeks when I predicted Romney would choose Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell. I admit it. I gave Mitt Romney more political credit than he obviously deserves. But, I was NOT wrong about one thing…

  • MITT ROMNEY IS AN IDIOT!

1. Ryan is from Wisconsin and there is no way on God's Green Earth Ryan being Veep will help his ticket take Wisconsin's Electoral votes away from Obama.

2. Ryan does not help Romney win any other votes in the Mid-West, which is solidly for Obama/Biden.

3. Ryan's Budget angered Baby Boomers and there are still more of that age group in the voting ranks than any other.

4. The state of Virginia was still in-play, and could have possibly swung to Romney with McDonnell. Not very likely, but possible. At least more likely than Wisconsin or the Mid-West with Ryan.

5. McDonnell on the ticket could have helped shore-up Republican base votes in the South, but Ryan is less effective there being from The Rust Belt.

and

6. Announcing this momentous decision early Saturday morning when most of America is still asleep. Who's brilliant idea was that? (Romney's?)

  • What is going to be really embarrassing...

is when Romney goes to the GOP Convention, with his Veep running-mate Ryan and The GOP asks Romney to step down so they can nominate someone who actually has a chance to win.

  • This election is now a lock for

Jaw dropping: over 100-million now on Federal Welfare

by Norm Van Ness

Posted: 08.08.2012 at 5:34 PM ....

Thanks Obama .... "LOL"

The new numbers stem from the U.S. Census's Survey of Income and Program Participation which shows that nearly 110,000 million individuals received a welfare benefit in 2011. The benefits counted were not limited to U.S. citizens...as non-citizens were included in the final tally ....

And 36% of illegal aliens are on some type of Obama welfare now .... "LOL"

Excluding S.S , Medicaid and Medicare ....

I can not wait until Mitt Romney has to stand up in front his supporters on election night and admit defeat. As someone once said, there will be a huge sucking sound. It will be coming from deep within the guts of every republican on earth. You will see stretch marks around Mitt Romney's mouth as he once again has to pull his foot out. He will then blame Paul Ryan. After this pick, I think he wants to lose.

Blah, blah, blah, Included in the data collected by Myers and her team: congressional voting records, an exhaustive questionnaire and "several years" of tax returns, yadda, yadda, yadda.

But Romney himself will only release two (2) years for president, and even that is not complete or in a timely manner. WTF?!

Bruce-1628250 -- Bob "Vaginal Probe" McDonnell would be bad on a national level as well as Paul Ryan, and may not have helped win Virgnia--certainly not the women's vote.

Romney is no fool he just pulled out the smoking mirror, No candidate would have been able to take the attention off his not providing those TAX returns, this is why he went with Ryan fully knowing he would lose a lot of votes, Harry Reid's digging has him looking like Elvis, yep his all shook up, LOL, but on the serious side Romney is not stupid and slippery as an eel, but he can't fool all the people and I hope Harry Reid stay's on him like a fly on SH_T.

Why does Romney have that look of either Fear or confusion, maybe he did not make a mistake when he announced Ryan as the Next President, his look is just not right, I know when he speaks I can see that he lies a lot but this look is a lot different like he is shocked or fears that Ryan will steal the platform.

over 100-million now on Federal Welfare

And the majority have one or more jobs. Despite Mitt stump speaking of higher wages, Bain has a proven record laying off workers, eliminating their benefits, and offering their jobs back for half-price. Lying comes easily for Romney, he's had a lot of practice. We've seen this erosion of pay over the last 30 years. I remember the GOP suggesting that people would rather collect unemployment than work. It's a logical choice. Why would I spend the money to drive to and from a minimum wage job when I can sit at home and look for a decent job and collect $800/month? It makes more sense financially to stay home. This fact speaks more to the quality of the available jobs than it does to the character of the unemployed.

The entire Democratic National Committee thanks you for choosing Representative Paul Ryan as your Vice presidential candidate. This assures a victory in Florida for President Obama resulting in more than the 270 electoral college voted needed for his reelection as President. We can now spend more of our resources in Ohio, Colorado, Virginia, North Carolina and Nevada to insure an even larger victory.

Ohio is the most crucial of the swing states and one they desperately need to have any chance of winning. Oh well, they're loss is our gain.

Paul Ryan is a true American hero.

yosolo, I see you need a basic understanding of what constitutes the term American Hero.

An American Hero is someone who will fight for the good and saftey of all Americans. He will, despite life-threatening adversity, champion justice and goodwill for the elderly, children, impoverished and weak. He is a beacon of hope for our humanity.

Kind of like the soldiers in our military. The police and firefighters in every neighborhood. The teachers and scientists in our schools and communities. Our social workers and doctors.

You should know by now that Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney do not come anywhere near to being an American Hero. The only thing they know is pecuniary aggrandizement for self.

My advice is to stop smoking the chemicals, put the pipe down and focus after taking a deep breath of clean air. "Paul Ryan, an American Hero... give me mustard, lettuce and republican welfare cheese on that hero!"

HAAAAA! can't stop laughing... Paul Ryan, an American Hero who was supported by government money as a child who now seeks to eliminate the safety net as an adult. The poster boy of social security who became the adult against medicare! I can't stop laughing!

Obama is a war criminal and he should be impeached.

    Obama has:

Signed the NDAA bill into law allowing the assassination of any us citizen without trial (yes, I know it's been around for a long time but Obama signed it into law even though it's unconstitutional)

Allowed 30,000 Spy drones to be flown over American skies (Unconstitutional, Against the Fourth Amendment).

Obama has signed over 1000 Executive Orders since he took office (Thanks to that, it's now illegal to collect rain water)

Obama has killed hundreds of innocent people (including 3 Americans) with drone strikes he has ordered in Pakistan And Yemen.

Obama has raised the National debt Nearly $5 TRILLION.

Obama has allowed almost 1 Million ILLEGAL aliens to become legal citizens (thanks to those he allowed to become citizens, they have committed 19 murders and 142 sex crimes)

Lied About all of His 2008 Campaign Promises Including the One Where He said he campaigned in 57 states.

Google Search "Dreams from my REAL father" and you'll see, Obama's father was a failed communist who's dream was to DESTROY America, at age 18, Obama went to a MARXIST school.

    Mitt Romney has or will:

Has made Millions in an Abortion Business.

    Will sell jobs over seas.

Will go to war with any Country he wants to without Congressional Approval (he says).

Both the Republican party and Democratic party are really the same thing now.

You know who we need for President? Gary Johnson, he is the Libertarian Presidential Canidate, he wants to End the IRS, End the Fed, End useless Government Agencies likes the Department of Homeland Security. He is Against wars. You are probably thinking "Why vote for him? He has no chance.", he has polled in Nearly %10 and needs %15 to Delegate Obama.

It matters not at all how Romney kept his VP choice under wraps. All that matters is how much longer he intends on keeping his tax returns secret.

Even I believe that Mittens has paid taxes, but nowhere near the 13.9% average over ten years which he claimed in the primary season. So it isn't a matter of him necessarily being a tax cheat, which he probably isn't, but rather a liar regarding percentage paid, which he probably is. I do not want a liar as my President.

Man up, Mitt. Earn my vote.

Simply and conveniently putting the name of Jesus in the title of Romney's church did not then and does not now place Him, the Christ, first in the hearts of the LDS faithful.

In fact, by his unusually aggressive and unrelenting pursuit of material reward in this life, while upon this earth, Romney appears to reject the core teachings of Jesus Christ through his own selfish deeds and actions.

...and Romney is not alone in that marriage, Dawn. Do you think that Jesus ever would have so naturally and comfortably uttered a phrase as contemptuous and condascending as Ann's "You people...."? She wasn't merely making a simple declaration, she was providing insight into a well-worn, deeply felt, and highly dismissive avarice.

There was an article in Business Week in July that seemed to have a good idea of why Mitt won't release his returns: like most investors, he took massive losses in 2008 and 2009, so much so that he legitimately owed no tax in 2008 and had a large carry-over to 2009. So, although he did nothing wrong, releasing a return that showed zero tax paid on $20 million income would be terminally embarrassing to him. Better to take the hiy for not releasing the returns at all than showing a zero tax year.

Bishop Romney told David Muir that he had not calculated his actual tax rate for prior years. He could not hazard a guess if he paid less than the rate he paid for 2009. He indicated he would get back to him.

Did he? If so, only David knows. If not he seems to need a high degree of precision for a simple question compared to cutting a wide swath when criticizing the Administration for responding to State requests for flexibility in welfare administration

To bad you don't ask Obama the same question how much did he pay in taxes over the past 10 years.

I really dose not matter how much tax romney paid that's not going to get 13 million people back to work.

    How about the promoises Obama made and did not keep that's what the issue is here Obama wants you thinking about Romney and how much tax he paid or did not pay, so he don't have to answer for his own record of failure in running this country. here are some of Obama promises;

Barack Obama promised to create five million new energy jobs alone, he claimed that, by the end of the first term, his healthcare plan, would quote, "bring down premiums by $2,500 for the typical family." He guaranteed that his financial rescue plan would help stop foreclosures. In the first year of his presidency, he pledged, quote, "to cut the deficit we inherited in the half by the end of my first term in office." He said he would, quote, "lift two million Americans from poverty" and, quote, "jolt our economy back to life."

What do you call that? flip-flop? Cut & Run? Or just liar? I mean wth is that guy talking about? He really is like an etch-a-sketch. He needs to be on more medication if he thinks he has a chance of winning this election. I saw his commercial trying to connect with the common man.. LOL. Tax returns or no tax returns, who really is a competent tax analyst on these boards? Especially FR?

Lets follow the money shall we...

Romney has been following a political path since he left bain. The IRS can find more revenue for the treasury from a wealthy individual than they can find from anyone reporting less than $250k/yr in adjusted gross income. Think obama and company would have failed to bring up any tax fraud by now if there was any?

The reality is that revealing anyones tax returns are essentially meaningless if the best taxmen (IRS) can find nothing wrong.

MSNBCMFE, I don't believe romney needs your vote. Pushing for his returns are as foolish as the birthers pushing for obamas birth certificate after his being nominated in 2008.

The Wealthiest people are going to get the biggest Tax break in History IF Mutt amd Ryan get in office. Be careful what you wish for. Take a lesson from Wisconsin when they elected Governor Walker. Why people who are struggeling and losing their homes would vote for Romney and Ryan is completly beyond me.

This is Obamas economy. He is the leader, he is responsible. How do democrats actually help the poor when everything they buy has went up 50 to 100%? Food and gas.

Again with the tax return caws from the parrots. Amazing that fellow citizens from the left have such little confidence in the Obama ran IRS. Can't say that I blame them. The whole administration has proven to be incompetent and corrupt.

I disagree with the headline of the article. It is not the biggest secret in politics.

That question would be,"when is the Obama administration and the Dept of Injustice going to come clean on the Fast and Furious scandal? Is the drug smuggler facing trial in Chicago telling the truth when he claims that it was an operation to arm one rival cartel against another in exchange for information against those cartels? Were they given protection for smuggling drugs into America as reward for that information?"

Or this one, given the left's hysteria over the Citizen's United ruling and their hatred of Super Pac's, "Is Erik the Red Holder investigating what appears to be a violation of federal law concerning the obvious collusion between the Obama Campaign and the Super Pac Priorities USA?"

It's no secret and easy to describe in one word how the Romney Campaign kept their choice hushed......disciplined.

Maybe some journalists can bring those questions into the public light and demand answers.

The democratic hierarchy knew the republican tea bag hierarchy had decreed Ryan as Romney's veep in early June. Romney wasn't given any choice in the matter. Hell, even I knew it. Tea baggers mean to attempt a "Bush/Cheney redo. They don't trust Romney anymore than His worst enemy does. Should this work, Romney will be a President as G W Bush was. That is; in name only. Ryan will be charged with policy direction and implementation through Romney, and Romney, as Bush did with Cheney, will do as He is told. Democrats, especially the President were prepared for it though. Gonna be an interesting and very learning experience for all who really observe.

I disagree completely that how Romney kept this secret is of no importance. Actually, one hopes that team Obama would learn from it - as it might be highly valuable to them in terms of keeping national security secrets, well, secret.

Making no copies of documents and locking those original documents in a safe at the end of the day might be a good idea. So would only having people involved who can keep their big mouths shut.

Leaking secret information to the press might be good for Pbama's "manly man" image- but it endangers our operatives and our national security. Since Obama seems to be surrounded by folks who don't seem to understand that, it's time for them-and him- to go.

Surely you must be referring to the Plame Affair in which Scooter Libby was convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice for interfering with the investigation of the "outing" of a covert CIA agent by a high ranking member of the State Department in retaliation for the agent's spouse's criticism of the Bush Administration. Bush later abused his right of executive privilege by pardoning Libby's prison sentence, but that's how it is among Republicans. Karl Rove was also implicated in this affair but it was decided it was pointless to press charges if the President was going to pardon the people who were convicted.

The only people "implicating" Karl Rove were- oh yeah, democrats who know nothing whatsoever about the investigation.

Richard Armitage admitted being the leak, so there goes your ridiculous assertions.

By the way, that case was investigated by a Special Prosecutor. Given that Plame was not undercover, her life was not jeapordized, nor were any national security secrets, it boggles the mind that , first, an embedded double agent was revealed BY THE WHITE HOUSE and had to be removed to safety- leaving us with no eyes and ears in the Al Queda project to perfect underwear bombs, and

The White House gave secret information about Seal Team Six to Holkywood types, and that information was disseminated- and a helicopter full of Seal Team Six members was shot down, killing all, and

Obama's "kill list" strategy to "get" his enemies was revealed, and

The computer virus impacting the Iranian nuclear weapons program was revealed, and

There is no special prosecutor for any of this.

If there were, Valerie Jarret and David Axelrod would wind up in Leavenworth. What proof do I have?

The same proof you have about Karl Rove.

Richard Armitage later admitted to outing the agent but Libby was convicted of trying desperately to block the investigation. Further reports clearly indicate that deeper invesitigations would result in charges being leveled against other government staff members including Karl Rove. With pressure for outside sources and the President pardoning Libby, the efforts against Rove ceased.

You're even wrong on the "pardon". Bush never Pardoned Libby- he commuted his jail sentence. Big difference. It means he'll never work in government again.

I notice, however, that you never address the substance of my post-

A non-undercover CIA agent is revealed, no lives were in jeapordy, but a special prosecutor was engaged to investigate.

The deaths of Seal Team Six, and jeapordy zing the life of a double agent, (which also eliminated the intelligence gathering from people who want to kill us), among other national security leaks, are left in the hands of justice lawyers- one of whom is an Obama campaign operative.

Yeah. Makes sense to me. Nothing's more important than Obama's re election, right?

You're reaching, no joe. The Wikipedia entry includes its sources and they are available for you to research. The Washington Post, at which you sneer, was the source of the story that brought down the Nixon Administration. It is a far more credible source than those you did not provide to support your crazed claims. Therefore, your objections are based on hot air and your insane fantasies. Bush's pardon/commutation of Libby's prison sentence precluded any further attempts to bring the other perpetrators of the crime to justice.

Furthermore, your feeble attempt to tie in the deaths of the Seal Six team to the recent leaks is dishonest and shameful. Also, your asinine claim of one of the lawyers prosecuting this case as being "an Obama campaign operative" is ludicrous and laughable. Your reach exceeds your grasp of reality, it seems.

You would be better served to support your untenable argument by claiming that Santa Claus and UFOs are the sources of your embarrassing conspiracy theory.

LOYALTEXAN -- Agreed. No one believes Romney doesn't know what's in his tax returns, especially the rates he as paid (or should we say didn't pay).

Aside from secrecy being Romney's thing, he lives to game the system -- He is in fact obsessed with seeing how little taxes he can pay. He is SO obsessed that when his campaign advisers have recommend he get his tax records in order for public scrutiny he refused to do it.

Romney is such a greedy tight-arse that he couldn't bare the idea of paying more in taxes and then not getting the nomination. No, he preferred to take that chance figuring if he did win the nomination he would just sanitize and release the current and upcoming year -- And even the incomplete 2010 release looks bad!

Romney is such an entitled POS, and now we have Paul Ryan too -- The most immoral Washington insider there is, wanting to destroy Medicare for seniors so the rich, like Romney and Ryan can enjoy more tax cuts. These jagoffs aren't even interested in paying down the deficit! They just want to cut programs for the middle class an poor so the rich can get even larger tax cuts. WTF?!

It's so easy to shoot down the crap from the left. Scooter Libby was not convicted for "outing" Plame nor was anyone ever convicted for such. Or ever investigated seriously for it.

On September 7, 2006, more than three years after Novak published the fact that Plame was a CIA agent, former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage publicly acknowledged that he was the source who first revealed Valerie Plame's identity to Novak. The Armitage revelation was not news to Prosecutor Fitzgerald. The prosecutor knew from his first day on the case that Armitage was the one who "leaked" that Plame was a CIA agent.

After Armitage finally came clean, the New York Times questioned the prosecutorial integrity of special counsel Fitzgerald:

Patrick J. Fitzgerald, the prosecutor, knew the identity of the leaker from his very first day in the special counsel’s chair, but kept the inquiry open for nearly two more years before indicting I. Lewis Libby Jr., Vice President Dick Cheney’s former chief of staff, on obstruction charges.

Now, the question of whether Mr. Fitzgerald properly exercised his prosecutorial discretion in continuing to pursue possible wrongdoing in the case has become the subject of rich debate on editorial pages and in legal and political circles.

Richard L. Armitage, the former deputy secretary of state, first told the authorities in October 2003 that he had been the primary source for the July 14, 2003, column by Robert D. Novak that identified Valerie Wilson as a C.I.A. operative and set off the leak investigation.

Mr. Fitzgerald’s decision to prolong the inquiry once he took over as special prosecutor in December 2003 had significant political and legal consequences. The inquiry seriously embarrassed and distracted the Bush White House for nearly two years and resulted in five felony charges against Mr. Libby, even as Mr. Fitzgerald decided not to charge Mr. Armitage or anyone else with crimes related to the leak itself.

Moreover, Mr. Fitzgerald’s effort to find out who besides Mr. Armitage had spoken to reporters provoked a fierce battle over whether reporters could withhold the identities of their sources from prosecutors and resulted in one reporter, Judith Miller, then of The New York Times, spending 85 days in jail before agreeing to testify to a grand jury.

Back to Libby. Prosecutor Fitzgerald, got convictions on four of the five charges he brought against Libby:

    Obstruction of justice when he intentionally deceived a grand jury investigating the exposure of Valerie Plame as a CIA operative;

    Making a false statement by intentionally lying to FBI agents about a conversation with NBC newsman Tim Russert;

    Perjury when he lied in court about his conversation with Russert;

A second count of perjury when he lied in court about conversations with other reporters.

Fitzgerald failed to get a conviction on a second count of making a false statement relating to a conversation he had with writer Matt Cooper, formerly of Time magazine.

The prosecutor didn't see fit to charge Armitage, or anyone else with leaking Plame's status as a CIA agent. As the Washington Post editorialized, it turns out that the person who exposed CIA agent Valerie Plame was not out to punish her husband:

But all those who have opined on this affair ought to take note of the not-so-surprising disclosure that the primary source of the newspaper column in which Ms. Plame's cover as an agent was purportedly blown in 2003 was former deputy secretary of state Richard L. Armitage.

It follows that one of the most sensational charges leveled against the Bush White House -- that it orchestrated the leak of Ms. Plame's identity to ruin her career and thus punish Mr. Wilson -- is untrue. The partisan clamor that followed the raising of that allegation by Mr. Wilson in the summer of 2003 led to the appointment of a special prosecutor, a costly and prolonged investigation, and the indictment of Vice President Cheney's chief of staff, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, on charges of perjury. All of that might have been avoided had Mr. Armitage's identity been known three years ago.

Nevertheless, it now appears that the person most responsible for the end of Ms. Plame's CIA career is Mr. Wilson. Mr. Wilson chose to go public with an explosive charge, claiming -- falsely, as it turned out -- that he had debunked reports of Iraqi uranium-shopping in Niger and that his report had circulated to senior administration officials. He ought to have expected that both those officials and journalists such as Mr. Novak would ask why a retired ambassador would have been sent on such a mission and that the answer would point to his wife. He diverted responsibility from himself and his false charges by claiming that President Bush's closest aides had engaged in an illegal conspiracy. It's unfortunate that so many people took him seriously.

    H/T Redstate

Keep coming with the lies which have been disproved Sailcat. It's all Obama and his minions have to support him. Lies, lies, and damn lies.

By whom was the Washington Post discredited, conservativeretard? Please show your evidence, not that you have any. Your desperate lies do nothing to support your immature fantasies. The fact remains that no one in the Bush administration ever defended Libby's innocence. He was patently guilty of trying to block the investigation into a despicable crime against the people of this country. The fact that Bush struck down his prison sentence is an admission that Libby could not win on appeal.

You know, instead of spending your weekends drinking malt liquor directly from the bottle and wishing you had an even number of testicles, conservativeretard, perhaps you should spend a few minutes asking yourself what you are going to wear to President Obama's reelection party...not that you're going to receive an invitation.

Romney is confirming for me once again that he simply COULDN'T have been the sharpest tool in the shed at Bain Capital. Mistake after mistake made throughout his campaign, a jumble of 'word salad' when speaking off-script, and in regard to matters of intense public interest, the elevation of secrecy to that of fine art.

It must have been his practiced charm and manicured good looks, his aristocratic air, his ebullient sense of entitlement, and perhaps most importantly, the two most prized gifts bestowed upon him by his father...an inheritance and a recognizable last name…which somehow ‘qualified’ him for a leadership position on the Board.

Alas, the public sector is not a Board Room, nor is the electorate an effete group of predatory corporate raiders. We may not often show it, but the general public is protective of its freedoms. We may not often say it, but we believe in democracy. We may not often demonstrate it, but we pride ourselves on our uncanny schoolyard ability to sniff out a skunk, and Mitt is proving himself to be just that.

Paul Ryan's plan cuts administrative costs, not payment to medical staffs. Furthermore, Fraud in medicare is between 10 - 25% of the funds spent. Private companies do not tollerate fraud and find ways to do things more efficiently.

I saw that one version called for vouchers so the recipients could chose a company they trust to administer their payments. This could work really good provided the Fed requires that the company offer a plan geared to federal minimum mandates of coverage for what the voucher is worth. Then, Seniors could have the option to customize their insurance and pay more for more premium care. If structured correctly, Senior citizens who can afford to pay The full amount for services and greater insurance costs would then take some pressure off medical facilities to jack up prices to those who are not on medicare.

Just for typical medical visits and proceedures, the mark-up non-medicare patients must pay is 33% more.

As a doctor said recently to me. The current system is broken. We need to do something.

I don't think making all insurance policies cover every possible service is a step in the wrong direction. This type of practice is obviously unsustainable. Rather, the government should set a minimal care level that everyone will receive that allows policies to be affordable is a start.

So Beth Myers is trying to convince us that all along the selection of a running mate "was Mitt's decision."

C'mon, Beth. Ryan was a LATE choice based solely on political expediency. Mitt felt that he needed to reassure the base, and after Coulter, Erikson, and Limbaugh ripped him a new one the other day, the choice was made FOR him by events beyond his control.

THAT is precisely the kind of President Mitt would be. Responding rather than anticipating. And why not, when you're filthy rich you can afford to roll with the punches a bit more than the rest of us.

Well, Mitt, you are NOT a thinker. You are not even a doer. You are a taker.

While it is true the US Defficit is going to hit 14 trillion this was not President Obamas alone. Part came from previous administrations(multiple), part from money borrowed to pay for Iraq war that was fought "off books" and a Republican controlled House of Reperesentatives since 2010

You libs are funny. Any lie repeated enough and you think it's the truth. Budgets have been submitted by the House every year of 0bama's term....it's their job and they have done it. The problem is in the democrat controlled Senate where Harry (Pinocchio) Reid and company have refused to do their job and work on a compromise budget.

Only a blind uninformed fool would say that the republicans have been obstructing. The dems had a Super Majority in the House and Senate for the first 2 years of 0bama's term. Don't you know that???? That means they had carte blanche to do whatever they wanted budget wise, but they were unable to pass a budget. They didn't even try.

And yes, the dems have run up a deficit....over 5 TRILLION DOLLARS since they took control of the House and Senate in 2007. That is more than the total of all deficits in history.

The dems have no clue let alone a plan, unless it's to turn the USA into another bankrupt European style Socialist State, and We the People will put them in their place in November.

I find it interesting that the democrat controlled house and senate between 2007 and 2010 couldn't have come up with a fiscal plan that didn't have more bipartisanship appeal. I found it interesting that the 2010 midterms were referred to as giving the left a "shellacking", an adjective that obama gave to the midterm results.

Make all the excuses you want for obamas lack of leadership abilities or congresses gridlock. The bottomline is that obama and company has failed in his leadership role as POTUS to find common ground between the legislative and executive branches of the federal government. Past presidents have always found a way, to bad for America that obama can't.

Note: Current US Debt is $15,96 Trillion. Exactly 4 years ago it was $10.13 Trillion. In 4 years the national debt has increased by $5.83 Trillion. That makes Obama AND the Democrats contribution to be easily over $6.00 Trillion in 4 years in January, when the next Presidential term begins.

From January 2001 - January 2009. the debt increased 4.98 Trillion. Under the Obama Plan at the end of eight years, the increase in debt will be between at least 10 Trillion if you believe Obama but most likely over 11 Trillion.

You are not well versed in mathematics and trends and monetary flow.

The economy was plumeting due to the Bush economics that were the greatest failure in our history.

When the economy and employment is plumeting, do you really expect any president can step in and hit a stoplight button and it will just stop?

What the Republicans have done to the economy since Reagan and the Trickle down farce, with the help of Bill Clinton and his allowing Glass Speagal to go down is the reason why the cash flow keeps running away from most of us. Ask yourself, where have all the dollars gone? Two unfunded wars still costing us big time, a stupid unfunded perscription deal, tax breaks for the ones needing them the least and an insane push forward with American imperialism. Those in the military industrial complex have most of the cash and the greedy hustlers on wall street dissapered a ton of it. GreenSPAM and his nutball ideas were and are the ones held by those that think they know something about economics and we will continue going further down and over the cliff if we vote in the Republicans. This is not your father's Republican party.

Those that run the Far Right have given up on America which is why our money and jobs are leaving here. "We don't need no f*cking middle class" is the war cry of the Far Right Wing terminally stupid treasonous b*stards.

Well maxgiver, I seem to recall that the CBO compared both ryans plan and obamas plan and that ryans plan did decrease the deficits more than obamas plan. What is your point? To bad obama ignored boles-simpson.

SS trustees have already projected that at current funding levels SS can only pay out about 75% of its obligations after 2032. We know from a variety of news reports that medicare is seriously underfunded. Even warren buffet has made the analysis that obamas "buffet rule" or increasing just the taxes on the top 2% will put a serious dent in our debt level.

BTW, I have no problem with the top 2% paying a higher tax rate, but I do have a problem with obama and the left promoting it as an effective solution to out of control government spending. Let the obama (bush) tax cuts and payroll tax cuts expire across the board.

Obama has said that the private sector is doing fine, so these "tax cuts" need no longer apply. Also with the private sector doing so well, our economy should be able to take the hit in GDP that a tax increase will have.

Did i miss anything lol?????????????????

How observant, I knew FR was a liberal/progressive stronghold blog since I joined newsvine in 2010. I found it rather humorous that the left leaners can be voted up many times for just saying "good morning", let alone attacking any conservative or independent blogger that questions the lefts ideology.

Posting what you don't like is no reason to censor. Rude and crude is your opinion, threats and cursing deserve sensorship. If you only want to hear one opinion watch MSNBC they need the viewers. They are 18th in cable news while FOX has been number 1 for 10 years.

And WWE has enjoyed the best ratings in its time slot too. What's your point?

Jersey Shore enjoys top ratings too.

Entertainment doesn't mean informative or even accurate.

The burning question for me is why they would want to keep it a secret in the first place. The only reason I can think of is that they wanted to build media suspense as a way of deflecting from the real issue of Romney hiding his tax records.

Ryan's already defined as extremist Ayn Randian jerk from a wealthy family and elitist perspective who intends to wreak havoc on the American social contract. Surprise surprise that Romney would be forced to pick him.

Romney is paranoid and has other neurotic hangups. But the decision to go with Ryan this week was due to desperation, and fear of the far-Right fringe. The more Romney becomes a person who merely has working digits to sign his VP's plan, the more Romney will regret the day he won the nomination.

The real exploding story isn't 'who did Romney pick' but....'why did Christie and Portman turn down the job'? Rubio was cut because he refused to show his taxes to Romney.

So to answer your question culheath asking why would they keep it a sercret....it's because they didn't want people hearing that they were turned down. Next person in line for the offer....Jan Brewer.

he was audited already, and found nothing wrong. so , he paid the lowest rate, and was accurate. its none of your business. go look at the two he gave, and report to us will ya??

Then what is it that would have him refuse to reveal them? Privacy issues are BS.

This is a man who is applying for the job of most powerful man on the planet. Inquiring minds want to know just who the hell he is and what he's been up to and whether or not he has been merely meeting legal requirements (requirements made "legal" by the way to suit his ilk by his ilk) or whether he has been a responsible citizen who has cared as much about the welfare of the country as his own personal welfare. It speaks to character and whether he understand the difference between letter of the law ad spirit of the law.

So, no, given the import of the office he is applying for, the legality of his of his past behaviors is not the sole criteria for judgment. If he wants to keep his records private then he should apply to Burger King maybe.

Romney can't release any more years, because if he did it would have to include 2008 and 2009 -- probably the most incriminating years that McCain didn't see.

The IRS doesn't audit someone like Romney every year--it's primarily random or there has to be an illegal red flag. Romney gaming the system is unethical and unAmerican -- this we already know. Just because it's not illegal (though it probably should be) doesn't mean his tax returns would look good to voters.

Jaw dropping: over 100-million now on Federal Welfare

                  Thanks Obama .... "LOL"

The new numbers stem from the U.S. Census's Survey of Income and Program Participation which shows that nearly 110,000 million individuals received a welfare benefit in 2011. The benefits counted were not limited to U.S. citizens...as non-citizens were included in the final tally ....

And 36% of illegal aliens are on some type of Obama welfare now .... "LOL"

                  Excluding S.S , Medicaid and Medicare ....

First: you numbers are just plain ridiculous.

Second: 99.9% of Illegals are working in low level and very difficult jobs for low pay. In my area many of these Illegals have taken to becoming contractors in construction and and landscaping,

Third, If you don't have documentation, you would not dare walk into a gov. office asking for anything unless you had a visa or green card.

So im gonna be kind and say your not a moron, so that would make you a simple evil troll who gains pleasure being annoying to people. Good luck Ben. lol that description is a personality disorder. literally.

Bigbenalaska is THE MAN!!! Sir, I love everything you've been saying because it's all true! All the left can bitch about is "he won't show his taxes". WRONG. Rightisright already stated the fact that Romney has been audited and given his two years, and he's passed the test. Now, let's talk about why blOmaba took years to produce his (falsified) Birth Certificate, or College records, or the fact that his (half) brother is living in squander in Kenya. (I thought he wanted to "share the wealth?") Or how his book "..Dreams my father..." stated that his Grandmother held him in her arms at his birth, IN KENYA!!! Face it, Obama has nothing good to stand on, so he'll just try to hit Romney with negative info. I can't wait to watch this country flourish as soon as that arrogant Barry/Hussien is out of the house!! I know, the lefties will collapse this comment too.

When she was selected for VP he laughed his ass off and knew there was no chance for McCain. I my self am bi-partisan and will vote for Obama. Wow! Ryan. Heavy hitter. Frequently presidential candidates will pick a doofus like Biden as their running mate to so they can look good by comparison. Other times they will pick a VP just to bring in a particular segment of the electorate, as with Walter Mondale's choice of Geraldine Ferraro. The fact that Romney has chosen Ryan shows that he has a great deal of self confidence. More importantly, it shows that he is assembling a top-notch management team. As a businessman, he realizes that a tough challenge, like undoing Obama's mischief, will take the very highest quality team to accomplish.

You too, my friend! This actually must have been a very tough choice for Romney. He was probably torn between choosing Ryan who is tough and smart and who can be the number two guy in a highly dynamic management "tiger team"; and choosing someone like Rubio who can bring in a critical segment of voters. This was a gutsy choice for Romney; I hope it was the right one.

How much of a whiz do you have to be to propose cutting the top rate from 35% down to 25%? Ryan's budget doesn't balance the budget for 23 years. Real genius there (not). The "deep bench" and "rising stars" -- that's delusional rightwing propaganda, just like the praise given to Paul Ryan.

Perhaps you might have stated it better thusly: "The fact that Romney has chosen Ryan shows that" Grover Norquist "has a great deal of self confidence."

                          ...and, brother, does he ever!

"As a businessman, he realizes that a tough challenge,"

Some of the worst presidents we've had have been businessmen -- people like Bush 41, Hoover, Harding, Carter -- all were successful businessmen.

On the other hand, some of our greatest presidents failed at business. Abraham Lincoln racked up so many unpaid notes in his brief career as a storekeeper in New Salem, Illinois, that he referred to the obligations as his “national debt.” For 15 years after his haberdashery in Kansas City went under, Harry Truman was still working to pay off his creditors, and was strapped for money until well into his career in the United States Senate. Jefferson was a terrible businessman and died all but broke.

Running a government and running a business are not the same.

It used to be said that the best presidents were ex-governors. Then came Carter and Bush. I was also said that Senators made bad presidents, and Lyndon Johnson supported that theory, but what about Kennedy?

It must be more dependent on the person than some rule of thumb.

Carter showed us all that that particular ex-governor was the worst president in history but he got knocked off the throne by an ex-community organizer.

No CoCo -- the worst president in history was George W. Bush. Remember -- it was George W. Bush and his Republican Congress who brought us two unfunded wars, two unfunded tax cuts, a massive, unfunded, new entitlement, the largest expansion of government since LBJ, the largest increase in energy prices in any 8 year period in our history, along with a net loss of jobs over 8 years all while turning the largest surplus of all times into the largest deficit of all times and leaving office with the worst economy since the depressions.

The reality is no president since Kennedy had the keys to the White House turned over to him from the former president with the nation in BETTER shape than did George W. Bush and no president since FDR had the keys to the White House turned over to him from the former president with the nation in WORSE than did President Obama. It will take this nation a generation or longer to dig ourselves out of the economic disaster caused by George W. Bush and his Republican controlled Congress.

The Republican convention is going to be a bloodbath.

I knew that McDonald was toast as a potential VP pick as soon as his proposed that stupid vaginal probe legislation. He probably thought that was his best shot to get the VP spot ... oops.

I have to say that the Ryan pick really surprises me.

But, then, I guess Romney had no choice.

If he wins it will be because the Tea Party gets even more hysterical and anti-Obama, and I guess the Ryan pick offers the Romney campaign the greatest amount of hysteria.

You mean like Bush's plan to give 5.5 million minorities that couldn't make mortgage payments, the down payments to buy the houses they would later default on?

That was in fact his plan to get the minority vote for hid re election campaign. His administration even pressed Fannie and Freddie to back these homes. We were even blessed with funding this with 200 million of our tax dollars a year.

Just one year after this went through, Bush was warned of the repercussions, but anything for a vote, correct?

I hope Mitt keeps up this tax thing right up until his October Surprise of dumping them on the media with just enough time for the democRATS to say "OOPS!". And nothing untoward will be found. You don't make the kind of money he did by being stupid enough to do something for which you can get caught. Everything will be absolutely legal. If he were guilty of something, it would have come out by now, with the viciousness that the obama campaign has persued him thus far.

obama doesn't go for just defeating an oponent; he goes out to destroy them in every way. There's nothing there to find or they'd have found it by now. And if it was in taxes, obama's personal SS, the IRS would have given it to him already.

By choosing Ryan as his VP, Mitt Romney just handed Florida to Preaident Obama giving him more than the 270 necessary votes to assure another 4 years as president. President Obama can now lost in Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Colorado and Nevada and still sin the election.

Dawn Can you understand the difference between a fraudulent return and a perfectly legal but embarrassing tax return? If he legally paid no tax for 2008 or 2009 due to investment losses, it would take a lot of splaining.

Charlie - It is good to see someone chose a running mate based on principles rather than what state it can deliver. I'm sure that Obama didn't chose Biden to secure the 3 electoral votes from Delaware; but he picked someone who if, God forbid, became president would be the best thing for SNL since Gerald Ford.

@culheath There's a world of difference between illegal and unethical.

Arguably, Justice Learned Hand was one of the greatest minds to ever sit on the Supreme Court. His answer to your "unethical" issue was as follows:

"Any one may so arrange his affairs that his taxes shall be as low as possible; he is not bound to choose that pattern which will best pay the Treasury; there is not even a patriotic duty to increase one's taxes." Helvering v. Gregory, 69 F.2d 809, 810 (2d Cir. 1934) (Hand, J. Learned), aff'd 293 U.S. 465, 55 S.Ct. 266.

The Ryan budget reduces the top tax rate from 35% to 25% -- that in itself is suspect coming from two rich dudes, Romney and Ryan.

Ryan and his allies say a bold plan [NOTE: when the word "bold" is used to describe something, it means brazenly ruthless] - reforming entitlements like Medicare and Medicaid - and slashing discretionary spending is needed to reduce the deficit and debt. But critics argue that the pain comes primarily from the poor and middle class ... 62% of the spending cuts in the Ryan budget would come from low-income programs, while 37% of its tax benefits would go to those making more than $1 million per year.

To cut programs for poor seniors to give more tax cuts to the rich is immoral. And worst of all, it doesn't balance the budget for 23 years. WTF!?

So what is there that makes you think that when those currently 50 or 54 or whatever age are going to be able to better afford health care when they hit retirement age, especially if the right was successful in repealing Obamacare? Couple that with their frenzy to completely unleash the rampant greed of the insurance companies (and all others for that matter) and you have a formula for disaster. We had a country with no safety net before and it was a disaster, thats why those programs were put in place. With middle class wages being basically flat for the last few decades and insurance rates jumping sometimes 30 - 60 percent in single years how can anyone outside the top of the wealthy being able to keep up. With many either unemployed or under-employed, many having to work 2 or 3 jobs just to survive how is it even imaginable that anyone will be able to put away enough to retire. The republicans have one guiding principle, everything to the wealthy and make the rest of us pay for it.

People, listen. Social Security is going bankrupt. There's a good chance we 55 and unders will get Nothing if some action is not taken.

Just putting Ryan on the ticket does not mean that his proposal is suddenly law. It will go through tons of changes and may not even make it. The important thing is that he has made a proposal that is something besides "let's do nothing and keep on collecting until the money is completely gone."

Uber-taxing millionaires will not suddenly make SS solvent, and certainly will make little dent in the trillion dollar deficit. Why should they have to pay to fix the governement's overspending? When you retrench your family budget, don't you make cuts that sometimes hurt? Have to tighten the belt? I'm 55, and I know that I am facing a tough retirement either way you look at it. So I work two jobs and hope that I can take care of myself no matter what the government does. When did we become so dependant?

Romney managed to blab about his secret meeting with British intelligence to the UK press within hours of the meeting, so I just assumed Romney's Tea Party handlers didn't tell him who his vice president would be until just before he made the announcement.

Romney's biggest secrets are his tax records and some of his murky business deals at Bain, and he seems to know how to keep those.

We can be sure that anything on Romney's tax returns will be legal since he and his CPA know that they might be scrutinized thoroughly by the ferrets at the IRS. In any case they can have no possible effect on the country as a whole.

We can't say the same for the Fast and Furious documents that Obama is hiding by Executive Privilege. Obama talks “transparency” and practices the most aggressive obscuration.

Apparently the documents relating to Fast and Furious are so damning to Obama that if they come to light he would not only lose the election, but might also be sent to prison.

It was probably pretty easy to keep it a secret, mostly because no one really cared. It was a passing curiosity and nothing else, because it doesn't matter who the eventual loser's running mate is going to be....and since the campaign started everyone with a brain has realized that the GOP was running a "who gets to lose in November" contest.

Rick Santorum is the real winner because in December he'll be able to say "I COULD have beaten Obama" (It won't be a particularly accurate boast, but it's one of those statements that there's no way to prove or invalidate.

Interesting coincidence MSNBCMFE ... There was a brutal rapist in LA some years back who used an almost identical defense: "Did you see the way she was dressed? She was asking for it!"

                                          He's still in prison ...

@MSNBCMFE, you sound envious. Put down the doughnut walk away from the pc and exersize. Dawn V is the total package, nice looking and smart.

This isn't HotorNot.com. Take your play for Dawn elsewhere.

First of all, I don't really believe much of what comes from Romney and his team...he has a track record of lying, so you never know when he's telling the truth. I really doubt that he chose Ryan before the conservatives backed him into a corner last week. Faced with republican desertion and sinking poll numbers, Romney really had no choice but to go with Ryan or continue to be chastised by his own party. He's never demonstrated that he has the guts to stand up to the far-right wing of his party despite the fact that giving in to them may cost him the general election.

As to keeping a secret, we've experienced first-hand how good Romney is at keeping secrets from the American people, like who he really is. And his tax returns are probably in one of those locked safes, and not allowed to leave the office. If this man ever had a soul, he sold it long ago.

Just like Obama's records continue to be locked up.

This is a prime case of Puff the Magic Dragon. Obama is the Master of the Secret Chamber , as for lies. Excuse me!! I'd like to know more about Reverand Wright, (Oh he was in church but he didn't listen to "GD America"and more about Bill Ayers, and more about being a foreign exchange student, and more about his impeccable grades, and more about his imaginary girlfriend in his imiginary book he wrote.

Lets just let the election tell the American Voters who will be the next POTUS. This bickering back and forth only raises anger from everyone on these posts.

After reading these comments I went to Fox front page to see what they were saying. Really scary what Ryan's plans are. Already he is spouting about outing medicare with that trumped up about doing a health bracket or give you a check to spend on health as you wish. also there is a 25% to 35% that you may/will have to spend. And you call a penalty on Obama's as lousy. Go read, then come back and give us your opinion.

                                                .
