ON A CAMPAIGN BUS IN VIRGINIA -- When Mitt Romney introduced Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan as his running mate today, it was the culmination of a still-mysterious process that reached its climactic final stages on Aug 1, when Romney told Beth Myers, his former chief of staff, that he had made a decision: he wanted the House budget chairman on the ticket.
That decision date, supplied by campaign advisers, means that Romney selected Ryan before the congressman's boomlet in conservative media, and on the very day of his return from a week-long trip abroad.

Republican presidential candidate and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney pushes a shopping cart into Hunters Shop and Save in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire Aug. 6, 2012.
Five days passed before the two men could meet, but this past Sunday, Aug. 5, Ryan came to Romney for a meeting, likely at the presumptive nominee's home in Wolfeboro, N.H., and accepted the offer.
That afternoon, senior staffers huddled at Romney's secluded estate on Lake Winnepesaukee for hours. Strategist Stuart Stevens was there, as were senior advisers Eric Fehrnstrom and Bob White, along with Myers, the head of Romney's VP search. Over the course of an hour in early afternoon, cars began to peel away from the cul-de-sac, but there was no sign of Ryan, who managed to arrive and depart undetected, despite reporters gathered in town for the start of Romney's protective pool the next day.
At the time, one senior adviser told NBC News the meeting was a "strategy session," that had nothing to do with selecting a vice president, a remark that was likely intended to preserve the secrecy of the selection process.
In Wisconsin, there was no sign of Ryan at his home or around town that Sunday, which was also the day of the Oak Creek shooting at a Sikh temple, in the congressman's district.
NBC's Alex Moe contributed to this report.

What did Ryan say about the Oak Creek massacre?.....
Willard trying to deflect.......
Meanwhile......Willard where are your tax returns?
One out of touch numbskull picks another out of touch numbskull to be his running mate.
It just doesn't get any better than this folks!
Ryan's pick is consistent with what GOP represents..
...to Rob Peter the Middle Class to pay Paul the rich 1%ter (what Paul Ryan represents). and by picking Ryan, Mitt the Vulture has sent a clear message that surprises no one.
The Ryan Budget has sent the same message, for example, by making Medicare a Vulture program (voucher)?
Vultures of a feather flock.
Interesting that Mitt's campaign has to provide a retroactive date for the selection so it looks like he is the one in charge and making the decision. Sorry Mitt, but your puppet strings have been quite obvious for the entire election cycle. That constipated feeling you have is because you have the Koch brothers arms up your a$s dictating your every move.
Absolutely! RomneyHood is in full display with the Ryan pick!
..so RomneyHood ...is to Rob Peter to pay Paul (rob Peter the Middle Class to pay Paul Ryan the 1%ter...)
Now it sounds more accurate.
Thanks, chilled.
Paul Ryan booed in Wisconsin:
During a town hall meeting in Milton, a constituent who described himself as a "lifelong conservative" asked Ryan about the effects of growing income inequality in our nation. The constituent noted that huge income disparities contributed to the Great Depression and the Great Recession, and thus wanted to know why the congressman was "fighting to not let the tax breaks for the wealthy expire."
Ryan argued against "redistributing" in this manner. After the constituent noted that "there's nothing wrong with taxing the top because it does not trickle down," Ryan argued that "we do tax the top." This response earned a chorus of boos from constituents:
CONSTITUENT: The middle class is disappearing right now. During this time of prosperity, the top 1 percent was taking about 10 percent of the total annual income, but yet today we are fighting to not let the tax breaks for the wealthy expire? And we're fighting to not raise the Social Security cap from $87,000? I think we're wrong.
RYAN: A couple things. I don't disagree with the premise of what you're saying. The question is what's the best way to do this. Is it to redistribute... (Crosstalk)
CONSTITUENT: You have to lower spending. But it's a matter of there's nothing wrong with taxing the top because it does not trickle down.
RYAN: We do tax the top.
Audience boos

President Obama coined the phrase while speaking in Colorado, I think, and the crowd roared with cheers......RomneyHood, which folks can understand!
Willard then tried to fight back with the 'Obamaloney' crack, which nobody understood!
4 more for 44!
JonR - "Interesting that Mitt's campaign has to provide a retroactive date for the selection so it looks like he is the one in charge and making the decision"
I had much the same thought. Is this the kind of president he's going to be, too? Didn't we already have one of those? Thanks, but I'll take the guy we've got now, who listens to his advisors - as in people who are there to give him ADVICE - and then actually makes up his own mind about what to do.
FR: "but there was no sign of Ryan, who managed to arrive and depart undetected, despite reporters gathered in town for the start of Romney's protective pool the next day."
Sounds like somebody forgot to stake out the car elevator again. Or did you think the thing huddled in the crate on top of that one car was just another sick dog? :)

A favorite of the Koch brothers, Ryan has accused scientists of engaging in conspiracy to “intentionally mislead the public on the issue of climate change.” He has implied that snow invalidates global warming.
Ryan has voted to prevent the Environmental Protection Agency from limiting greenhouse pollution, to eliminate White House climate advisers, to block the U.S. Department of Agriculture from preparing for climate disasters like the drought devastating his home state, and to eliminate the Department of Energy Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA-E)
Paul Ryan Promoted Unfounded Conspiracy Theories About Climate Scientists.

Read this:
So much for Romney making a pick that says something about his own views (whatever they are). Instead, he feared what Bill Kristol might say and buckled under. As always.
Think of it: The candidate will be running on his vice president’s ideas! It’s a staggering thought. Ryan might as well debate Obama this October, and Romney can square off against Biden.

Better Paul Ryan's ideas than Saul Alinski's!
Romney -- How many years of tax returns did Paul Ryan give you? We want to see both for at least 8 years. You can't pass GO until you come clean on this basic tradition of transparency. Two rich guys who want tax cuts for the rich by taking Medicare away from seniors. YOU don't deserve tax breaks -- Show us your TAX RETURNS!
You don't even know who that is. You're probably confused with Andrea Saul.
TP said: Romney -- How many years of tax returns did Paul Ryan give you? We want to see both for at least 8 years.
We want to see.... WE WANT TO SEE? Who wants to see? Someone that isn't going to vote for Romney anyway? For what purpose? Why do YOU want to see them? You want to see them because Romney won't provide them... WTF?
You have no right to demand that from anyone... but in your liberal arrogance you think you do. Amazing liberals... demanding things they have to right to.
Romney finally found someone to accept the life label of "Loser Boy" = poliitcal career ended. I will give Rubio some props for staying out of this minefield......
What The ... ?
Huffington Post:
Within minutes of tapping Paul Ryan as his vice presidential nominee, presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney was distancing himself from the congressman's controversial budget, which includes steep cuts to government programs and changing Medicare into a voucher-like program.
The Romney campaign sent out talking points on Saturday that made the case that he was his own man on matters of Medicare and Social Security and that he wouldn't be tied to a document he insisted he'd sign into law and once called "marvelous."
______________
Amateur Hour for the next 3 months with these two clueless idiots.
Does this show Romney is being is own person, because supposedly he likes Ryan on a personal level, or does this show Romney is not his own person and is once again pandering to the far-Right? Either way, it doesn't show good judgement. That's what the VP pick indicates most of all, what kind of decisions Romney would make -- He would make bad decisions, now we know for certain.
A representative from the House? Ryna's not a dimwit like Palin, but he's NOT ready to become POTUS anymore than Romney - WTF!? So much for Ohio (Portman) or Florida (Rubio) -- Romney is scrambling for the base so badly he went for someone who won't even help him in a swing state.
I live in a Red state, and now I'm fired up to vote because my vote will count! All you progressives in Red states -- get out the vote. President Obama might win more states in 2012 than he did in 2008. Whooohooo!
Pat from Boston said: Ryan Budget Kept Big Oil Subsidies And Slashed Clean Energy Investment.
I wish Obama would have stayed away from clean energy investment. Our government wouldn't be holding the bag on Solyndra and 15 other companies that borrowed money from the government and going bankrupt.
How many billions of dollars were wasted for investing in these companies Pat? I guess it doesn't matter to you. It was Obama that spent the money and endorsed their failure... How many people lost jobs over this Pat? I guess it doesn't matter... since Obama says it's all Bush's fault... and you fall for it every time.
Pat Boston MA. -- Agreed. Mr. Etch-a-Sketch Romney thinks he can tack to the center after picking Ryan, who's only claim to fame is a far-Right extreme budget?
Hahaha, what a fine mess you've gotten us into this time Romney/Ryan Hood.
Seven2Seven -- You may be on to something. Paul Ryan may have been the only one on the short list who agreed to be on the ticket. What future did Ryan have?

Jaw dropping: over 100-million now on Federal Welfare

Thanks Obama .... "LOL"
The new numbers stem from the U.S. Census's Survey of Income and Program Participation which shows that nearly 110,000 million individuals received a welfare benefit in 2011. The benefits counted were not limited to U.S. citizens...as non-citizens were included in the final tally ....
And 36% of illegal aliens are on some type of Obama welfare now .... "LOL"
No surprise he picked Ryan.
Something else noteworthy is where the VP event took place; in front of a navy ship. It fits with Romney's Defense spending plans, a Keynesian approach, rightwingers, which relies heavily on government spending by purchasing ships and that backdrop fits in with his views concerning National Defense as well.
Mitt Romney at Sea
But let's stick with the Republican frontrunner (or stumbler). What exactly would Romney spend all this money on?
For starters, he's a humongous fan of building big ships, generally the most expensive items in the Pentagon budget. He has pledged to up Navy ship purchases from 9 to 15 per year, a rise of 50%. These things add up. A new aircraft carrier costs more than $10 billion; a ballistic missile submarine weighs in at $7 billion or more; and a destroyer comes with a -- by comparison -- piddling price tag of $2 billion-plus. The rationale for such a naval spending spree is, of course, that all-purpose threat cited these days by builders of every sort of big-ticket military hardware: China.
As Romney put it late last year, if the U.S. doesn't pump up its shipbuilding budget, China will soon be "brushing aside an inferior American Navy in the Pacific." This must be news to former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, who noted in a May 2010 speech to the Navy League that the fleet is larger than the next 13 navies combined -- 11 of which, by the way, belong to U.S. allies. As for the Chinese challenge, much has been made of China's new aircraft carrier, which actually turns out to be a refurbished vessel purchased from Ukraine in 1998 and originally intended to be a floating casino. It would leave the U.S. with only an 11 to 1 advantage in this category.

The Reich-wing leadership is now complete.
What better contrast could there be for a plutocracy than a Romney/Ryan ticket?
As for Teapublicans in congress, the proof of premeditated obstruction and throwing the American people under the bus continues as well. Add to that trying to suppress the vote...
They are an anti-democracy bunch. The Teapublicans need to be tossed out and left to wander in the desert for at least a generation until they decide to become patriotic Americans again.
"...as of the end of 2009, 41 people inside Obama's very own White House owe the government they're allegedly running a total of $831,055 in back taxes."
Tell me again why Romney's tax returns are so important to Obama & Co?
Brianb - you are so two-faced. (You too Steve -446003). If President Obama was refusing to release his tax returns (as ALL Presidential candidates have done in modern times) you two would be screaming at the top of your lungs.
As usual, when you can't defend the indefensible, you deflect and get all bent out of shape. Face it, if you had a DECENT candidate, there would be no problems.

In other words

-More Nation building even though both other efforts are failures, look out Iran
-Continuation of useless Military ops in other countries to bolster Defense industry contributions.
NICE
Don't care who you are or what your political allegiance is, this is bad math. to go from 9 to 15 is an increase of 6. An increase of 6, equals a 67% increase, not a 50% increase. If the idiot that wrote this can't even figure that out.....how much other BS in this piece is wrong.

Bigben -- just to point out a slight error in your post: you say(in bold) that 110,000 million individuals received a welfare benefit in 2011. Another way to say that is 110 Billion individuals. That would take in not only illegal aliens, but whole planets full. The current population of the Earth is about seven billion. If all your figures are as accurate as this one you had better retire.
If Romney needs Ryan to shore up his base at this point his campaign is in serious trouble. This choice is a hail mary pass if ever there was.
Seniors, there goes your social security and Medicare if Romney/Ryan have their way.
Got news for you kwl.... BOTH of those funds are long GONE......

Steve - got news for you. You KNOW nothing and it shows!
Obama/Biden 2012
I cannot imagine an America with the two of these out of touch Bozos at the top, and I don't think the rest of the Nation can either.
Hey Ron - We've gotten a real good taste of the world under Obama... and it sucks. From all apparent indications it's not getting any better either... inflation is rising... the GDP will tick downward in the current quarter... not that it was anything to write home about anyway... Unemployment is up... the deficit increases daily... with no end in sight. No positive news on the horizon... just more woe is me.
No imagination on my part... all is very real and I'm not very excited about it... Glad you find these conditions totally acceptable in your world.
Brianb - these are not acceptable in ANYONE's world. But we need a leader - not an ignorant a** like Mitt - to fix it. And, President Obama can and will if we get rid of the obstructionists who have blocked EVERYTHING he has tried to do.
At least TRY to be honest - the GOP is totally responsible for the country's problems and for the President being unable to fix them. What they have done is treasonous - and an honest person would admit that!
Obama/Biden 2021
Forget Paul Ryan. SHOW US YOUR TAX RETURNS MITT!!!!
Wow. How important and meaningful indeed. (sarcasm)
So you don't care whether your hoped-for future leader of your country sees fit to invest in it (i.e. pay his taxes)?
Figures.
Good luck getting your Social Security money back out of Belize.
OBAMA.... show us your school records, house purchase scam, student loans, etc, etc, etc...... if fact, what do we knwo about Obama other than what is in his books?
Steve - when you show me all of those for the past President's, I'll be right there with you screaming for Obama to show his, okay? Oh, and I want to see all past President's birth certificates, also. And, I want to see all of those things for Romney!
Obama/Biden 2012
What you wont read on MSNBC:
The VP selection process was handled very well....they increased the suspense but didn't wait too long... and kept many names in the mix...
And they actually kept it a secret! If the selection was on a weekday, it would have been leaked early...this way, announcing on Sat morning, most Americans heard about it with the video of the announcement, not by a leak..
It also ends up happening on a day when most people aren't watching the news.
Bob...... Told you three months ago that it wasn't going to be McDonnell so maybe not as secret as you thought it would be. Just like right now I'll tell you that it wasn't Ryan till the last several days( they're denial is so much Bushra) when it became evident that Romney was going to get a challenge at the convention if he didn't pick Ryan. There is one thing that you and I can agree on however McDonnell is going to be either the Pres. or Vice Pres. nominee in '16 and is going to be much more formidable than Ol' Willard can ever hope to be.

Hey, Bob - what happened to your avatar? Technical difficulties? :)
Actually, I kind of felt sorry for Governor McDonnell this morning - asking him to be the warm-up act for Mitt to introduce the guy he picked instead was kind of like cancelling your prom date with one girl and then asking her if your new date could borrow her dress. Kudos to the Gov for sucking up his pride and playing along.
And I don't really see what Saturday has to do with leaks as opposed to any other day. What I see is that half of America - including a lot of those big red states in the middle - was still in bed this morning and will end up seeing just the 30-second clip on the news tonight - half of which will be the replay of Romney's slip-up on the introduction. And yes, I know, I know - Obama did the same thing when introducing Biden in 2008. Romney's gaffe just somehow seemed a little more.....freudian? It just seems like an odd time for an announcement that you hope to get such a big bounce from. Saturday mornings are usually reserved for things you DON'T want many people to pay attention to.
You know.....like releasing your tax returns or something......
Shiny Object Alert, there, "pjam"?
It would be great if we all took a breath and looked at the facts. Instead of being led around by the nose by Rush or "The Reverend Al" maybe we could study the options instead of being walking bumper stickers! The lack of knowledge of the American electorate is frightening!

Nice to see Eddie Munster all grown up standing next to Romney. Oh Romney, where are your tax returns?
critical thinking skills are important. maybe we should get serious about education and spend a lot less money on the military (we spend A LOT!!!! of money on the military, A LOT). you need an intelligent electorate for this country to survive.
Not according to the Texas GOP.

Romney knows he's losing. And when you're behind, playing it safe doesn't usually pay off. He had to do something at least a little daring to have any hope of moving the needle, and that always entails risks as well. Maybe Ryan hurts him in the long run, but he wasn't going to win with a Rob Portman anyway, so he had to try something.
Well for what little bump Romney may get from the far-Right he will lose twice as much in polls from the rest of the nation. That he announced his pick on a weekend tells us Team Romney knows this will have negative blow-back.
Good job Romneyhood! Now Ryan has a record we can sink are teeth into, lot's of red meat and fat! LOL

Of course we could look back at Barry's college records, writtings and such to find a true nature of his character, but wait, there are NO RECORDS.... just like so much of Obama's life...... sealed, hidden or destroyed.....

1) Liberals are STILL more interested in nosing through Mr. Romney's taxes than they are in real issues like the economy, having jobs (but I guess jobs don't matter when the welfare check still comes in), and HAVING a foreign policy that isn't appologising to the world for being American.
2) Liberals are more hung up on the label applied to ones moral code than they are in a candidate HAVING a moral code.
3) Liberals LIKE the current unemployment levels and the downward mobility that we are currently being subjected to.
4) Liberals forsee no better future for their children than the aspiration to qualify for a welfare check.
5) And then they wonder why I would choose to be conservative?
The last thing I want for my family is to be MIDDLE-CLASS...... we have worked our entire lives to move up the ladder....
Only to have Obama's class-warfare tactics to make us into villians....
No where in Barry's books does he detail anything about how he made it out of his middle-class upbringing and into his wealth.
Wonder why?
Dumb and dumber (Dawn V and Steve) - Your utter stupidity is showing. I know no liberals who are on welfare - all of my friends are also employed and doing better than they did when the GOP had the White House.
Steve you are a broken record. Get over it. Every Presidential candidate has shown at least 5 years of tax returns. YOU should be screaming that your candidate refuses to even release one full year. (His 2010 tax return was not released in full).
Your pathetic attempts to put the blame for the economy on Obama shows how utterly lacking in integrity you both are - or completely stupid - or both. The GOP was in charge when this mess started and they have blocked EVERY proposal President Obama put forward that would have helped us out of this mess faster.
Now both of you try to at least pretend to have integrity and get off your stupid lying points. Since your party is full of idiots - you should be screaming at them and trying to make them better. You are both losers and just plain gutter trash.
Obama/Biden 2012
Hey, Steve, what's so wrong with being middle-class? Is that now a dirty word?
...the numbers for Bush's last three months. Between October and November, 597,000 jobs were lost; between November and December, 681,000 were lost; and between December and January, 741,000 were lost.
April 2012 marks the 26th straight month of gains in private-sector employment, for a total of 4.2 million private-sector jobs.
The mention of Halliburton likely summons for most Americans memories of the Bush administration’s infamous no-bid Iraq war contracts—and Halliburton’s subsequent efforts to defraud taxpayers and its fatal negligence in facilities it constructed for our troops. Halliburton’s main business, however, is providing services to major oil companies such as its potentially faulty cementing job on BP’s blown out well.
The company had an unprecedented opportunity to engage in self-dealing and create a regulatory climate favorable to its business interests when Cheney, Halliburton’s former CEO, was ensconced in the White House and still effectively on its payroll.
I won't even dignify this one with refutation. NO ONE likes the current unemployment levels and the downward mobility that George W. Bush started.
Wow Dawn you sure have all of us "Liberals" figured out.
Most of us "Liberals" live conservative lives, are just concerned with children, elderly and the poor, but keep up your faux noise talking points, and live with your holier than tho attitude! It fit's right in with Romneyhood/ BrotherRyan plans for the rich!
Obama/Biden 2012 forward not back!
6) And they think in "bumper sticker" buzz phrases that they parrot with clocklike regularity.
Mitt is trying to deflect from the awful summer he has had on his campaign. However, he should release his taxes. "Trust Me" just won't work for the informed public and I see his party is even clammering for him to release them. What has he got to hide (ha,ha)?
What are you liberals going to have to cry about when it is found that there is nothing "to hide" in his taxes? Let's look at some of the jiggery-pokery involved in obama's past dealings.
Hey, wages have remained stagnant since 1979 but no one in the GOP is pointing that out. Nor are they telling you, yes," Wall Street and Corporations are doing just fine" with increased profits.
After reading quite a few of the replies on this site, I find it amazing how many Democrats are running scared and trying to convience each other how strong thier chanches in keeping The Big Spender that is breaking our countries back in office. Appears that a lot of them could care less what happens to the future generations that may need the things that we have now and are blessed with. What selfish individuals have become.
No matter how altruistic a liberal sounds, it is just that.. Sound. There is no substance.
Liberals are selfish and they don't even want to share with their progeny... unless they are sharing someone else's money.
letty harris - either you can't read or your comprehension skills are seriously lacking. Liberals aren't running scared by any stretch of the imagination.
Get a clue. The GOP is running an empty suit and it's companion empty shoes.
Obama/Biden 2012
"Richie Rich" Ryan is the "Poltical Child" spawned by the total greed of the Koch Brothers, and the Tax Pledge Insanity of "Goofy Grover." The taxes on the Middle Class, the Working Poor, and the elderly are going to go up. BIG TIME! The "Bain Trained" Capitialists that support their best buddy "Romulian Romney" are dancing on Wall Street. The big Oil CEO's are cracking open the bottles of beer Champaign, and yelling slogans like. "For the rich only!" Little "Richie Rich" Ryan will never beat VP Joe Biden in any type of debate. NO WAY! "Richie Rich" Ryan is like the "Mentally" challenged cousin who comes to the family party in a tux, and just loves to steal/invest against/for others. As for Grandpa and Grandma? "Richie Rich" Ryan likes to haunt them with his "Economically Polluted Plan" to destroy their Social Securtiy at all costs. Yes! Little "Richie Rich" Ryan will describe his Economic "Doctrine Of Destruction" with a big greedy smile and a wave. Read the political, economic, social, and cultural record of little "Richie Rich" Ryan America. Then come to your own conclusions. Getting worried yet America??
STILL thinking in Bumper Stickers and buzz words. Try original thinking, just once.
Dawn - you clearly haven't had an original thought in years. Perhaps you should take your own advice and actually THINK for a while.
Obama/Biden 2012
Paul Ryan, Micky Mouse, makes no difference, in the end it will be about Romney's integrity, Mormonism, off shore bank accounts and refusal to reveal tax statements
And what does that say about the American voter, if they decide their vote on his religion, how much money he has made in his life and how much he paid in taxes, instead of, What he did as Governor and CEO of Bain Capital, as compared to the failed economic policies of Obama.
GeorgeW148 -- How convenient for you not to address the first issue brought up: Mitt Romney's integrity (or lack thereof). I laughed.
But seriously folks! I am so
for having Paul Ryan as your new Veep candidate.
It is almost the best thing that could happen to insure the re-election of Obama/Biden! Palin would have been better, but Ryan is just as good.
p.s. Thanks for NOT announcing your choice during Prime Time Mitt! This announcement wasn't worth interrupting The Olympics or any other good TV.
Paul Ryan just said Romney stands honesty, integrity, experience!? Out of touch?
One not ready for prime time politician picks another even less ready for prime time politiican.
I'll stick with President Obama thank you.
Lets get one thing straight right now' Romney did not pick Ryan,he was jammed down his throat by the Tea Heads and GOP for Ryan is a Medicare murderer and wealthy protector. It will come back to haunt the Republicans for forceing Ryan to be the pick.Romney will plummet in the polls.
"Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney introduced his choice as running mate, House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan"
It should say "Presumptuous presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney..."
So I was wrong all these weeks when I predicted Romney would choose Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell. I admit it. I gave Mitt Romney more political credit than he obviously deserves. But, I was NOT wrong about one thing…
1. Ryan is from Wisconsin and there is no way on God's Green Earth Ryan being Veep will help his ticket take Wisconsin's Electoral votes away from Obama.
2. Ryan does not help Romney win any other votes in the Mid-West, which is solidly for Obama/Biden.
3. Ryan's Budget angered Baby Boomers and there are still more of that age group in the voting ranks than any other.
4. The state of Virginia was still in-play, and could have possibly swung to Romney with McDonnell. Not very likely, but possible. At least more likely than Wisconsin or the Mid-West with Ryan.
5. McDonnell on the ticket could have helped shore-up Republican base votes in the South, but Ryan is less effective there being from The Rust Belt.
and
6. Announcing this momentous decision early Saturday morning when most of America is still asleep. Who's brilliant idea was that? (Romney's?)
is when Romney goes to the GOP Convention, with his Veep running-mate Ryan and The GOP asks Romney to step down so they can nominate someone who actually has a chance to win.
