With all signs pointing to Mitt Romney selecting Paul Ryan as his VP running mate tomorrow in Norfolk, VA, Romney went bold. And here is First Read's looks at the strengths and weaknesses Ryan would bring the GOP presidential ticket.
Strengths:
- As chairman of the House Budget Committee, the 42-year-old Ryan is a young rising star in the GOP, and has become their chief spokesman when it comes to reducing the deficit and debt.
- Romney picking Ryan as his running mate would signal that he’s doubling down on an austerity/deficit-reduction message. Indeed, while the Obama campaign and Democrats could point to visible improvements with the economy over the past three years (a lower unemployment rate, stronger GDP growth), there hasn’t been much progress in reducing the deficit. The deficit was $1.4 trillion in FY ’09; $1.3 trillion in ’10; $1.5 trillion in ’11 (projected); and $1.1 trillion in ’12 (projected).
- Ryan hails from a battleground state -- Wisconsin -- where polls show Romney currently trailing Obama. Obama actually won Ryan’s district in 2008, 51%-47%.
- Comfort level: When Romney campaigned with Ryan in the lead-up to the April 3 Wisconsin primary, the two men demonstrated a rapport that we haven’t seen with other Romney surrogates.
- He would be a person who could please both the conservative intelligentsia and the Tea Party base.
Weaknesses:
- Ryan’s budget plan has become a lightning rod, and it will be a focus of Democratic attacks in the fall. The most controversial component of the plan is that it significantly transforms Medicare, which is regarded as the government’s most popular program.
- In addition to Medicare, Ryan was one of the driving forces to partially privatize Social Security after George W. Bush’s victory in the 2004 presidential election.
- There are also holes in Ryan’s budget-hawk armor: He voted for some of the biggest drivers of the deficit/debt -- the Bush tax cuts, the Iraq war, and the Medicare prescription-drug benefit, all of which weren’t paid for. Moreover, Ryan voted against the bipartisan Simpson-Bowles recommendations.
- Has never held statewide office and has no foreign-policy experience. Both could be liabilities.
- As a member of Congress, Ryan currently works in -- and is a relatively high-profile member of -- one of America’s least popular institutions.
- And while Romney has criticized Obama for not having private-sector experience, the same is largely true of Ryan: As the New Yorker has written, Ryan briefly worked for his family’s business as a “marketing consultant,” but most of his adult life has been spent as a congressman, congressional aide, or speechwriter/analyst at Jack Kemp’s Empower America think tank.

Oh, please, let it be Ryan! For one thing, his proposed budget actually *increases* the deficit (it won't decrease it till oh, many many years down the way, and that's only with some wildly optimistic guesses on economic growth. Won't get that with the job creators creating even more--in China).
Let's see, Romney will lose most of the old people once they figure out that if the people right behind them are going to get hosed, that they won't be far behind.
And both of them have so much foreign policy experience. Not.
(and I'm the first poster on this one! Feisty, you owe me a beer. I like Guinness).
Paul Ryan's strengths--none.
Paul Ryan's weaknesses--Pawlenty.
Great news for the Democrats. Florida seniors want medicare for their children and grandkids. Romney can kiss Florida good-bye.
You know Ron, normally I would be skeptical that Romney is picking Ryan based on sources alone, however, the First Read staff know their stuff, so I think Ryan is the guy.
It doesn't make any sense electorally. Ryan is neither competent, well known or likeable.
Pat:
I heard Chuck Todd make the announcement and was reasonably sure it is true. Romney just gave away Ohio when he passed over Portman.
He also gave away Florida as Seniors do not like the Ryan Plan. I'm old enough to get AARP. I don't think they will remain mute on this pick.
Tweet, h/t DailyKos:
Dem operative: "We've spent 18 months trying to make House races about their plan for Medicare and Mitt Romney just did it for us overnight"

Whoever "MYTH" Romney picks doesn't matter because he won't be president. He may get a bump. but it won't last. It's all about his lack of substance, flip flops, the others in the GOP frustration with "MYTH", and his TAXES.
Felons cannot be president! ☺
Romney as Audit Chair Saw Marriott Son of BOSS Shelter Defy IRS.
During Romney's tenure as a Marriott director, the company repeatedly utilized complex tax-avoidance maneuvers, prompting at least two tangles with the Internal Revenue Service, records show. In 1994, while he headed the audit committee, Marriott used a tax shelter known to attorneys by its nickname: "Son of BOSS."

Would so love a Romney (no clue)/Ryan (let's piss off the seniors) ticket .... seriously GOP ... that's it????? the debates will be stunning .. I so hope the country tunes in!
I really think this strength is far too overrated. The only thing Ryan really knows about deficit/debt reduction is to eliminate Medicare, and when that doesn't work, he will eliminate Social Security. As pointed out by Bernstein:
I agree with Pat. This will excite Romney's Obama bashing base and that's about all. It doesn't get him any votes.
What do you want to bet that this "leak" is part of the final vetting process, and once the Romney campaign realizes what a bad idea Ryan will be, they'll go with someone else.
Seriously, Ryan will guarantee losing Florida (don't mess with those seniors and their entitlements, even if it'll effect those after them, after all they have adult children and grandchildren) and while Romney is begging the Republicans to love him, I doubt his highly (actually the highest paid campaign staff ever) don't know that he's too polarizing.
Wow this is why I'm loving this election, it's seriously edge of my seat type of stuff. I've never watched primaries before, but I LOVED the brutal debates and I love the betting between family members and myself on the VEEP stakes (gentlemen bets, we're square like that).....anyone know the Vegas odds???
Ryan? CHICKEN HAWK RYAN? Should I STOP LAUGHING? Oh well, Willard supposedly "understands" the importance of the choice of idiot to run as his second-in-command... (although if this is TRUE, he's pandering to the Konservatif bloc) Now, IF Ryan were to be so straightforward as to propose a 50% CUT in the "DEFENSE" budget, I might have a slightly more favourable view of him... otherwise, he's still a brainless FUC king IDIOT (the same as he always was BEFORE)
You sound like you know the man personally...Like you grew up as kids or something and he was the classroom bully.
I'm conservitive and I will telll you one thing...I'll not be voting for either looser Obomba or Robbme. I'd like to vote someone I can trust and I know we all do. I wish Palin has stuck her guns but I guess she was one of the smart, serious, leaders who knew what a game O and R would make of our elections and nodded out early and with some dignity.
Take this post...
With remarks like that I really wonder just how seriously people are taking this?
The note said Rand Paul not Paul Ryan.
Ryan voted for all the legislation that caused all the mess in the first place.
I can already see the Obama ads pointing that out.
Happy late Birthday gift Mr. President.
Nameless:
I live in a Blue State, so chances are Obama will carry it, but I'm an Independent that leans Right (I read the Economist and actually watch some Fox News...Chris Wallace on Sunday), that being said, I really dislike Romney and anyone that has experienced Romney also dislikes him (I went to school in Boston during Romney's tenure as Governor, he didn't run for reelection because EVERYONE hated him).
Romney etch-a-sketchs himself on everything, he has no core, no values, and no honesty. All you have to do is google Romney's position on any major political issue and you will find him giving video interviews that show him flip flopping on every major issue.....abortion, gun control, individual mandates, the Grover tax pledge, global warming, Cap and Trade, Don't Ask, Don't Tell, campaign fiance reform, voting in the other party's primaries to mess with elections by registering as an Independent, didn't like Reagan and now views him as hero, the list goes on and on and on.
So yes, I did enjoy the knock out drag out fight that was the primary (I also like hockey, so I like fights) and I'm all ears for every major campaign move, but Romney is without a doubt the worst choice the Republicans could of made, so I'm interested in how the party tries to pivot this horrendous choice.
You are so lucky Mary!
Obama is all talk. has not a clue what he is doing. those of you who are voting for him are either on welfare, in the country illegally, or just not very bright.
Well, you are wrong on all three counts and I will vote for Obama, Romney is like Bush only "sweeter"
ednalv... if Obama is so bad, why is Romney trailing him by 7-9 points??? What does that make Romney??? Oh yeah, if you are voting for Romney, you are either a Billionaire, a Millionaire or a Racist who just hates Obama..
Eddie in Seattle, I am an independent, a small business owner with plans to grow a small business (Oworthless is elected again closing doors!) and I am not a "Billionaire, a Millionaire, or a Racist" as you say, and I see Oworthless absolutely destroying the American dream! FACT! Just wait until you see the adjustments businesses are going to have to make to stay open. Costs of the products you will be buying, are going to increase in cost to offset Obamacare! Nothing is Free! Transparency? When? Where? Balance a budget? When? Where? Obama is nothing but a complete liar. Middle Class he is going to save? LMFAO. The costs of products you are going to buy are going to increase! Your paycheck will decrease! You see good in that? Get ready for a country of Welfare. Oworthless is a complete joke!
Jerry, my poor sad, probably soon to be out of business soul. If your business skills match your lack of a grasp on how ecomonics really works, you are doomed and will ultimately fail. And will certainly want to blame a target that has less to do with your business's success than what you bring to the table. If you would take the time to look at all the economic factors that have or could have an impact on your business instead of cherry picking isolated factors like which party controls the White House to blame, you might have a better chance of surviving and succeeding.
Strengths: None
Weaknesses: Similar to Mitt Romney
excessive, Be careful what you ask for because it may come back to haunt you.
what a racist comment; especially from a vet!
The Romney Camp wanted it to be Romney/McDonnell, but they got a "cease and desist" letter from McDonald's lawyers...
In other words, he's been a troll all his life.
Spoken like a true idiot. What Romney and Paul Ryan would want to do is throw this country into the worse depressions in our history. Bush and company almost did it but these two jokers would really succeed. Mexico would have to close the borders to keep their Mexican immigrants from returning and also keep American out that are looking for a better life elsewhere.
Romney and Paul's plan is to make the already wealthy richer and the poor/middle class poorer. If that's what you want then by all means vote for them but I have too much love for my children, grandchildren, and country to let these jokers ruin this country. That's why I'm voting American by voting for Obama in 2012. He's not everything I wish for him to be but he sure is better than the alternative.
Romney/Ryan 2012 The R & R Team! Remove & Replace Would have preferred Rubio.
"OBAMANOS"
You can tell Mr. Romney made an excellent choice that will be great for the country when You can come on here and see all the moaning and groaning and gnashing of teeth going on!
Romney/Ryan 2012 ; )
A vote for Romney/Ryan is a vote for a third world America. The Republican looters must not be allowed to bend America over again.
Strength: He's Chairman of the House Budget Committee.
Weakness: He's Chairman of the House Budget Committee!
On the bright side. At least the idiot won't be part of Committee decisions anymore.
To: Mitt Romney
From: Democratic National Committee
The entire Democratic National Committee thanks you for choosing Representative Paul Ryan as your Vice presidential candidate. This assures a victory in Florida for President Obama resulting in more than the 270 electoral college voted needed for his reelection as President. We can now spend more of our resources in Ohio, Colorado, Virginia, North Catalonia and Nevada to insure an even larger victory.
Yep! eight out of ten of them did not even know Ryan 4hrs ago
Paul Ryan is Mitt Romney's Dick Cheney...
G. W. Bush couldn't win on his own merits, and the GOP knows that Romney has no chance of winning the presidency on his own merits...Romney is a wet blanket, so by choosing Ryan they hope to garner an edge, even with Ryan's excessive baggage.
What they haven't banked on is that most Americans are smart, and know bull@!$%# when they see it.
Ryan is Romney's "final nail in the coffin".
In 2008 McCain knew he was way behind so he threw a Hail Mary pass named Sarah Palin. Like most Hail Mary passes, it was incomplete. So now the Republicans have Mitt Romney in as quarterback and he's way behind. His Hail Mary pass is Paul Ryan. My guess is this one will be not just be incomplete, it will be intercepted and returned for a touchdown. Paul Ryan is the dream candidate -- for the Democrats. I'm sure President Obama is celebrating.
Can't wait for the debates between Ryan and "Bite Me" Biden. It won't take long for Biden to stick his foot in his mouth and start pulling out those hair plugs.
Didn't the GOP learn from the Sarah Palin disaster? Romney's best chance would have been to pick a moderate. As it is, he's just thrown the election away.
canary-in-the-coalmine,
"Ryan? CHICKEN HAWK RYAN? Should I STOP LAUGHING?"
Not yet! You'll be laughing even harder for the next 4 months when the late night comedians get a hold on this!
Poor J.D. What a way to misread all the posts... nobody is moaning and groaning... we are all happy he chose Ryan... as it is a gift to Obama. Ryan is SO much of the problem we call Congress. Rubio might have been a game changer (though not my choice). Christye is too much of a loose cannon. Ryan is perfect because he will drop Mittin's numbers even lower.. I loved the comments from Romney's staff about the drop in numbers... almost speechless to explain... lol Almost like reading the comics.
ROFLMAO You liberals are so full of lies and BS. Even this report is so Liberal its funny.
Lets compare Ryan to Obama shall we;
Forgein relations:
Ryan NONE Obama : NONE as well and he has embarassed America as well as offended our allies abroad.
Private sector Jobs.:
Ryan : SOME Obama : NONE
At least Ryan knows how read and do Math. Seems all Obama knows to do is play golf and make unfounded accusations toward his opponents, as well as blame others for his mistakes.
Government Experience:
Ryan : YEARS OF IT Obama: NOT EVEN A FULL TERM
State wide Eperience:
Ryan : NONE Obama: NONE HMMM Seems to be a some liberal two faced bias as usual here.
Social Security:
Ryan: Supports some privatization of it for younger people
Obama: Supports the stealing of SS surplus funds with only the promise to repay them. By his spending record it will never happen.
Debt:
Ryan is accused of supporting the Bush tax cut, The Iraq war, and prescription drug benefits for Medicare. Well now Wasn't the Bush tax cut approved by the Democrats as well. The Iraq war was also a bipartisan measure with Democrat support. And the medicare prescription program. was introduced by and largely supported by the Democrats ( Reid and Pellosi )
Now Obama's Record. Sent the deficit from 10 trillion to 15 trillion almost over night. Approved the Bank and Wall street bail out costing tax payers trillions of dollars , some at least made public, the rest was back room deals with Reid and Pelosi. Continues to allow corporations to send jobs overseas while spewing out lies about creating jobs here. As well as having Government figures falsified to make him look better.
During this campain season he has put out so much unfounded accusations and done his best to miss direct the attention off of his failures by lying about his opponents records ./ Obama is a sham man, a liar oand a scoundrel. Hell he isnt even man enough to admit to his own mistakes.
what are you smoking?
here's some physics for you.....crises must increase before stabilization occurs. Of course the deficiet went up...where's your head? There was the economic free fall. remember? That had to be stopped...it was for the most part.
We can't take essential services away from people who need them now to fix tomorrow. Today must be fixed first and then we can build on a solid foundation for tomorrow. Use common sense...it took 8 years to get where we are because of people like John McCain and Paul Ryan who were the hawks and war mongerers who supported the economic hallucinations of Bush Cheney...do you think that kind of debt can be repair over night?
Where is your head? Where was your voice? Where was Ryan's voice? Not a world was said about out of control spening on wars we should not been involved in and did not win and now you all want to shove this mess on to Obama and support people like RYan?
It's too stupid to even merit thought. Obama will win and I have said it from the beginning of March...by a virtual landslide unless of course the GOP has its way tampering with election results and I put nothing past them liars, tax ceats and war mongerers.

What's that old country song? Cry Cry Baby. I'm lovin it. All those lefty tear may fill the lakes and creeks. We are in stage 3 drought conditions here and all the nice plush lawns of registered Democrats, you know, those that tell everyone else to conserve. Maybe the bought carbon credits from Al, and think they exempt them from water usage like the rest of us. Hypocrite bas--rds!
This statement alone He would be a person who could please both the conservative intelligentsia and the Tea Party base. is reason to run not walk in the other direction..... The Tea Party is really a group of fanatics’ that will do anything to this country just to get member to be president..... The party of NO has got to GO.......
Why is this under the weakness category?
Based on that criteria, you should be quite unhappy with Obama.
Ryan's strength is that he is a loser,
his weakness? he is a loser for Mitt the Vulture?
Strengths, More cuts in taxes for the rich, down 10% and less help for those who need it. I think this will be like another pathetic Palin in the long run.
So how would privatization have worked for for SS retirees after investments dropped 40% and interest rates are now at fractions of 1%? Its a publically funded safety net for the elderly, not an investment account. There's a huge difference!! And as for the pilfering of the SS 'trust fund', what besides Treasuries would you have it invested in - especially given that those same treasury bills are the 'safe haven' investment for professional investors all over the world? And the problem with Medicare won't be fixed by Ryan's ideas - our basic philosophy of how medical care is provided, resullting in extremely high cost with poor measured outcomes, is the problem across the board. Its just that taxpayers cover Medicare's share of it, so we see it more clearly. And since Medicare is managed by BC/BS (in most regions) for a 7% overhead, compared to the 38% overhead it tries to achieve in private plans, the whole system is worse than we realize.
People why can you not see that nothing is going to help this country. The murdering of babies and the rampant exceptablity of homosexuality is the downfall of America. Both are grevious sins unto God and he will neither forget or forgive a country who does this evil. The rush to throw out the sick and the elderly and to fill the weathly's pockets with even more money than they already have is another reason. Obama is a false leader of America who was born in a foreign country and who also is a muslim. Romney is not a Christian according to the New Testament requirements. Their belief that Jesus and Lucifer were brothers are anti- Christian. Jesus is the human manifistation of his Father God and he existed with God from the beginning, (John 10:30) Lucifer is a created being (Ezekiel 28:15) as are all angels and the one one whom God made to be over all the angels and he because of pride and jealousy and turned against God. America's end is near and no matter if it happens from a man made war or from the inner workings of the government it is God who sanction it. While God gives you the freedom of choice in many things its original intent was for you to choose to serve Him, and if you did then you were blessed in all of your life, but if you did not then you do the will of satan which is to destroy and murder and are subject to satans will. It doe's not matter if Obama is re-elected or if Romney is elected because nether is by the Bible's difinition a Christian, even though sin is sin there are some that God considers worse than others, Obama is sanctioning homosexuality and the murdering of babies, he will be judged much worse than Romney unless Romney hidden in his heart does also. God said suffer the little children unto me and that he knew them before that were even conceived in their mothers womb, God said homosexuality is an abomination unto him and he will not allow a country where dwells to do such things and survive. I, based only on what I read believe that Romney will stay America's destruction by God for a while, if he is elected, because he says he is against these things and he makes a effort to fight against these evils things. Obama's re-election will bring about the destruction of America much sooner. I would end with asking God to bless America but I will not because as it stands now I do not want him to, and I pray for his fast return.
Hey, Demosheep brain trust... anyone have a clue who the co-writter on Ryan's medicare initiive is? No? It's Democratic Senator Ron Wyden!! Yes, not tea party, not Conservative... not even a Republican...
See, here is the thing, a few Politicians have noticed that the current system is broken and look to try to fix it, to make it survive without costing the taxpayers 50% of our total earnings...
It's also, as reported by Wyden, still just on paper... it's at the point where all the clown in the circus add their thoughts.
He STILL offers up something Biden and Obama lack.. the ability to work with BOTH sides of the aisle... which has been the #1 reason why things have not gone anywhere.
Every President since FDR, that has had the ability to work with both parties, has allowed for advancment... Every President that failed, well they also failed, including Obama.
i've just got to say a few things here. to retiredcoastguard: i'll tell you why privatizing social security is a weakness...because that is OUR money!!!! WE earned that money and the government has right to do anything with it without our permission and I DON'T WANT MY MONEY GIVEN TO THE PRIVATE SECTOR!!!! social security is NOT an entitlement!!!!!! it is NOT a charity! i have worked hard my entire adult life and paid into social security and only i and the american people have a right to decide what happens to OUR money!!!!! it's bad enough that Bush borrowed from social security to fund his wars and it was never paid back, now ryan wants to turn it over to wall street??? are you kidding me?
truth: social security is NOT bankrupt. it won't start paying out more than it is receiving in until at least 2035 AND that estimation is on the current growth. if you read about social security and read what the financial experts( who are not just out there trying to get a name for themselves by being doomsayers) they have said that with a few changes we can insure that future of social security into the foreseeable future. we don't need to gut it!! that is a right wing lie. PLEASE do some research.
same goes with medicare!!! this is NOT an entitlement! I really hate this whole lying dialogue that was started by the right under Bush( i don't necessarily blame him-i blame the radical right) that somehow medicare and social security are some kind of charitable organizations that we should be down on our knees thanking the government for. all of the monies in both funds were put there by US!!!! working americans! it's OUR money. don't let anyone tell you that it isn't! or that you don't have the right to decide what is to be done with it. medicare could also be fixed...what we need to a healthcare cooperative, run be each individual state, with EVERYONE paying their fair share, so we can all benefit. why, that sounds socialist and not american is beyond me. aren't we all supposed to be brothers in arms? aren't we all supposed to be united one for all? i didn't realize that to be a patriotic american you're supposed to have the ideal of every man for himself and to hell with everyone else. would you let your neighbor die rather than give a penny to save him? if so, you're no american in my book. we need to start changing the dialogue to one of brotherhood in this country, not free enterprise equals democracy. in case you're not educated on that matter, democracy and free enterprise are NOT synonomous (sp). you can have free enterprise in a democracy, but you can't have democracy in a country run solely on free enterprise. you would end up with those who don't have anything would have no word. what do you think is going on right now in this country?
did you read about how much money the political parties are raising? how carl rove is working to outraise obama and he thinks he can buy america? well, how much are you will to sell your vote for? is that what it has come to here? the richer party wins the white house? have we now put our country up for sale to the highest bidder, like the koch brothers? i know the president has raised alot of money, too. unfortunately you have to fight fire with fire, but that doesn't make the whole thing right. most of romney's money is coming from the ubber rich and we should all be scared of that because they are sure as heck not doing it out of the goodness of their hearts. they are going to expect payback. i don't know about you, but i'm not ready to live under the iron fist of a bunch of corporate overlords.
ryan is part of that whole lie. he wants to sell out our children and our grandchildren to indentured servitude to the rich and he does it by talking out of the side of his mouth about responsibility, but he's only talking about laying a greater burden on the poor and middle class.
and to jerry,
if you think this country is about to reap the wrath of God, i suggest you run for the hills, hide in a cave and put a blanket over your head. maybe he wont' catch you for being the ultimate hypocrite. "Love thy neighbor as thyself." "Do not judge lest ye be judged." you should start living by those statements instead of just giving them lip service. you, unfortunately for you, you live in a country where we have FREEDOM of religion and that also means freedom FROM religious hierarchies who would force us to live our lives based on their backward, archaic ideals and dogmas that were wholly invented by men to keep men in power.
you don't like the idea of abortion, then keep your pants zipped! everybody is so anxious to blame women for getting abortions and ya'll conveniently ignore the fact that these women didn't get pregnant by immaculate conception. there is a guy involved willing to say anything to get his way. and it would probably shock you to know how many of those same men have paid for those abortions. it would be interesting to know how many of our illustrious, conservative, right wing, teaparty legislators have paid to have their girlfriends or some random prostitute's baby aborted.
and if you don't like homosexuality, then don't become one. or maybe you are, and you've been brainwashed into thinking that it's something to be ashamed of. it's funny, we believe God is omnipotent and in control of everything, but if someone is gay, they're a mistake or an abomination. so, if God is perfect and He created the universe and everything in it, he's responsible for gays. but, by your thinking, God made mistakes, he allowed abominations to exist. so, you limit God by putting upon him the human failings of mistakes.
i don't. i believe the universal power that we call God, is perfect and has brought into being a perfect universe, set perfectly for life, all life. and it is up to us to come to understand that in order to live in harmony with the universe, ergo God, we have to learn to accept everything around us with compassion, equality and love. you should really reread the bible without some carpetbagging preacher telling you what it says. and so, do some real praying to God to show you the truth.
For all the liberal attacks on Ryan I have seen one thing the all have in common. They are high on unprovable rhetoric and low on facts. But then what do you expect with he president has told lie after lie hoping that if he lies enough they will follow.
What are you people, Sheep or Men?
So, the GOP refuses to agree or cooperate with President Obama on a single thing but somehow he is the bad guy that "won't work with both parties"?
I have a feeling that only the racist baggers will agree with you on that one...
alessa
Even though I understand what you are saying I would suggest you do something novel and actually read Ryan's bill before you judge. Ryan never stated he wanted the Government to invest your funds into private funds but rather to give you the chance to do this yourself.
Before you scream about Super Pacs you might wish to research how they were started. They were brought to court after the last election by the Public Unions to enable them to form large groups to help donate and run adds to help the candidate of their choice. What happened is the GOP seen what they did and went and beat them at their own game, now they are screaming foul or better yet spreading the myth that most of this money is coming from corporate sponsors (the facts are less then 15% of the money comes from corporations the rest comes from individuals - do some research).
Your opinion on abortion and homosexuality I really actually agree with you. Be what you are and be proud of it, and in regards to abortion it is real easy as a man to be against it, you do not have to carry the child or in some cases raise it (but with this being stated I do believe it is more a matter of not wanting to have to accept consequences for actions more then free choice).
Jerry-1927474,
Although as I christian I do understand what you are stating I can not stand up and support it. Like it or not we are a country built upon freedoms and are a secular government. If you look at population statics you will see that the number one growing religion in the U.S. today is not even Christian but rather Islam. If the rate of growth keeps up at the pace it is today then in the next 25 years they will have enough population to be the majority religion in this country. Now under your thinking because today we are a majority christian nation we should live under christian law, then are you also supporting that in 25 years when we are a Muslim nation we should be forced to have our children and grandchildren live under Shariah?
Now do you see the wisdom of keeping matters of faith and government separate. The founders if you look at their writings wanted people of faith to work with the government, but never wanted the government to be in the position of supporting one faith over the other. (This started because at the time when the constitution was written there a very strong push by southern Baptist to make it the State Church. But thankfully the founders in their wisdom found a way to compromise and keep the corruption of the state out of the churches).
I see the Alinski Hit Squad is out in full force... Have a field day liberal losers... Your coments on this site don't amount to more than a pile of donkey turds... kind of like the stuff of which your brains are made!

Great post - let's take it one step further.
The US government has no money of its own. It is a representative institution. Social Security, Medicare - all are taxes with a promise of return. By calling the return of this money, 'entitlements,' they are using language to imply that this store of value was theirs to begin with and since the extremely wealthy own the politicians, it is really THEIRS to do with as they please.
Our current problems go way deeper than budget. They go deep the core of what the government believes its power to be.
to tbenton,
you're right. i did go and try to find the ryan budget plan so i could see what you were talking about. do you know how hard it is to find a recounting of the plan without some slant? geez. anyway, you were right about the social security. it turns out he said that the government would be required to find a way to sustain it IF it became unsustainable. i know, that he talked about people investing their social security in the market and i guess as long as the government leaves that choice to the individual, then so be it, to each his own.
but, i do stand by my medicare and medicaid statements. even people in his own party had problems with it. the truth is the right wants us to believe that medicare is bankrupt and that just isn't true. what we need, i guess is to get more people working. you know, nothing will add money to these programs faster and better than working americans. you have to wonder if that alone would be enough. i mean, i believe in single payer health care, myself. i think it could be done through a cooperative run by each individual state rather than the government. just think, for only $30 person legal american in this country, we could collect over $108 billion in a year! and that's without companies having to pay out health care for their employees. imagine, how much we would have if everyone paid $50 with a ceiling of, i don't know, $200 per family. and if employers paid even half of what they pay today, i really believe we could do it. then we wouldn't need medicare of medicaid because everyone would be covered and everyone would pay. each state could set its own limits on coverage other than the basics, like well care, yearly exams, eye care, dental-all preventive. and of course, all critical and chronic care. but, if we put more emphasis on preventive care, we could reduce spending. and doctors and hospitals could charge less, because they would be guaranteed payment. i'm not an expert, but i think we could make something like that work. obviously singer payer is workable, because it's being done all over the western world. i think the biggest problem here is our ideal of 'free enterprise.' somehow, taking care of each other is considered 'socialist.' what people don't realize is that we have had socialism throughout our history. there is a difference between the socialism of nazi germany and social medicine. i can't help but think the power of the corporations who make money off of the health care industry is what is keeping us from moving ahead. i would ask people to not look at the political but look at your families. what you do if one of your own was sick and you couldn't pay for it? how much do you want your family members to have a healthy future? when you look at your children or grandchildren, don't you believe they deserve the same health care as everyone else? i mean, i can't go so far as saying that the constitution guarantees health as a right, but it was declared in the declaration of independence that we are endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights, such as life..." you can't have a reasonable chance at life and happiness if you're too poor to afford healthcare. it doesn't say life for the rich, it says life and that all men are created equal. these are ideals, i understand that, but they are supposed to be american ideals, or am i wrong about that? is brotherhood in this country dead? we give lip service to our soldiers who die for us, but when they return, their needs are greatly ignored. don't believe me? just read about all the suicides of vets in the last few years. i think we have been asking too much from them. you know, this analogy may offend some, but i'll use it anyway. rescue dogs are always allowed to find some of their people alive during training because when they are faced with too much death, they become depressed. we're not dogs, don't get me wrong, but i think the same idea is true here; when you're face with death all around you and you are forced to face it again and again, it can't help but get to you. we need to come home, and we need to give these people a boost. i know this is all off subject. i just had to say it.
So they pick a guy that's going to tell a nation of aging baby boomers approaching retirement that he wants to destroy Social Security?
What a bunch of f'ing idiots.
This goes to show how insane our political system and society is right now.
Before the mid 1970's If any politician had said that he was going to create jobs or make the economy better by cutting federal spending and slashing SS, Medicare and UI, the members of BOTH political parties would have said he belonged in the looney bin.
And in most places around the country any crowd of americans he spoke in front of would have laughed him off of the podium.
Back then, many people remembered the 1930's and knew we didn't get out of the Great Depression by cutting federal spending or slashing programs like SS or unemployment Insurance, the opposite, we increased federal spending and we CREATED Social Security, UI etc. DURING the Depression and they helped bring us out of it.
But even New Deal spending wasn't enough to wip the Great Depression. It was only after we entered WWII and SPENT EVEN MORE (and the government completely took over the economy) that it ended.
http://www.fasttrackteaching.com/ftap/Unemployment_300g15.gif
(And by the way, that brief jog upward in the unemployment around 1936-37 shown by the graph was when the FDR administration briefly STOPPED spending and started trying to lower the deficit. They quickly realized their mistake (politicians used to do that) and started spending again and unemployment went down again)
As a result of New Deal but much more WWII spending we had the biggest debt to GDP ratio in our history in 1946 (150%) and right after that two solid decades of economic boom also referred to by economists as the Golden Age of Capitalism.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post–World_War_II_economic_expansion
(and I might add this boom took place with high taxes on the top income bracket: 90% during the 1950's (With a Republican Administration) and 70% during the 1960's)
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oaQrkmOxApI/Th5u8DwpNPI/AAAAAAAAOLg/mAkjL_w545E/s1600/TopTaxBracket_TaxRate.jpg
After WWII ended even business people were panicky and thought we might slip back into depression again without war time spending which is one of the reasons we had the Cold War for the next 3-4 decades. It kept federal spending high.
And don't think I'm just picking on the Republicans here. Obama and the Democrats are really right up there along side the Republicans as deficit hawks, it's just that they are more devious and clever at seeming like they are not. Obama has been cutting federal jobs and he signed an agreement with the Republicans to slash trillions from Federal Spending.
That's why Main Street is still in a Recession while Wall Street, which received and continues to receive massive federal help is soaring (until they swindle themselves and us off of a cliff again, of course, because of DE regulation).
It wasn't until the Nutty Professor (Milton Friedman) came along and started babbling about the imaginary "Free-Market" that we had this descent into madness and our present sad state.
It only takes 30-45 minutes of looking on the internet if you want to find out whats really going on (and what has gone on in the past).
Stop reading about Lindsey Lohan, the newest iPad or looking at internet porn for a few minutes and wise yourself up.
Your job, standard of living and freedoms may depend on it.
This is way over ryan's league...he is a lying conniving hypocrite who will sell his own mother down the creek for his "vulture" budget....STRIPPING AWAY PROGRAMS FOR THE ELDERLY AND THE INFIRM AND POOR TO GIVE MORE TO THE WEALTHY....."HERMAN/EDDIE MUNSTER SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEIR-SELVES....these greedy bastards will pay in the long run..in the short-run though they will be pounce on and tared and feathered...mitt-witt is a clown walking bowl-legged ass-munch with his magic under-wear all the way up his culo......Obama/Biden 2012
IF Bishop Willard wanted to raise his polling numbers among Liberals & Independents
all he would have to do is take THE ONION's advice
and get arrested with a Prostitute .
I agree with one of the earlier posters - keep your filthy GOP hands off of my medicare and social security pay ins. Privatize, Privatize, Privatize ... and every time we do this, it doubles and triples the costs of the item we privatize.
So now we want to privatize social security and medicare - and give everybody vouchers. Then deregulate everything until the medical companies can raise their prices without any reason other than their profit margins.
This is more Bush - catastrophe management. Create a catastrophe and use it as an excuse to make wholesale changes - that end up screwing the middle class.
I never usually post, I usually read the remarks with a 'grain of salt' so to speak, and watch the totally DILUSIONAL CYBER WORLD put their feet in their own mouths.. and laugh off the ignorance that has seemingly taken over this entire country. But I must respond here to Alessa. While I believe you make a solid statement on the Social Security part of your response -It is OUR money, the US worker's money.. as we are the ones who pay into it!!- ABSOLUTELY! 100% CORRECT! :) But I have to say I cannot fully agree with you on the medicare part. Because in your statement you said it should be "individual state run" (agree) so that each person has to pay in their "fair share." The only way I can agree with ANY people paying THEIR FAIR SHARE is by implementing the FAIR TAX system. I am not sure how many "American" people have actually done their research on this subject, so I will leave that alone, EXCEPT for one FACT: IF the Fair Tax was brought in, then every prostitute, drug dealer, gun runner, LOBBY-ISTS, "Celebrity", or ANYone else for that matter who you do not like (or like me.. would LOVE to see imprisoned for some of the crap they get away with..LOL) scammers, terrorists.. ANYbody profiting from this country and then staying here & buying LUXURIES( Hope yall understand that word.. I didn't say on NECESSITIES.) would pay an equally distributed amount of taxes. No more April 15th deadlines & extensions -which was supposed to be stopped after the war to begin with anyways! No, not Iraqi one for the youngsters. Wish more folks would care about THAT and do some research on their own on it to see the FACTS. - Medicare becomes lost in translation when you bring it to the table as 'wouldn't you pay a smidge for your neighbor to keep them from suffering?' Really..?! I am shocked that someone feels that way. We go from being a 'kill what you eat' kinda country.. to a "don't worry about killing it first, just start devouring it.. and eventually it will die" kinda country! And it really surprises you that people absolutely do not care about each other anymore..? I'm over 30 and under 40, and already that ugly head had shown it's face a long time ago. There is no humanity, love, care shown anymore. Only if people feel they may gain something from your rise, will they be on your side.. otherwise, you're on your own. I try to be compassionate, and remember that some folks just weren't taught about the love we should share amongst one another. BUT on the same note.. I do not want to keep ANYone up that will not help themselves either. I have been on medicaid before (before anyone throws out the "you don't know their struggles" boloney!) Yes, I do understand their struggles. But that is not something we should reward(or AWARD) to folks who abuse it. That is where my compassion ends. You want to take advantage of people willing to pay into those programs to help feed you and your kids, or your kids and your drug habits.. nah. Thanks. Think I'll pass kinda feeling on that one. Get a drug screen (if you aren't hiding anything, then it wouldn't even be an issue). Then let them job place you. You don't make a $100k/yr, and might actually have to have a BUDGET in your house hold & say NO to your children, ya say..?! Hmm, ok. Then go for it. Tell them no. Guess what.. I rebounded from help. I have a DECENT job. Not a millionaires dream.. but we get the bills paid, and usually have food on the table :) Better than making a CAREER out of g'vmt assistance in my eyes anyway!
Ok there was my little 'off topic' rant for the day.. ha! But back to where I was headed on Alessa's comments..
Towards the bottom, you began to -like many that claim to know Jesus do- quote WELL known scriptures, and spout off about someone needing to get to know Jesus.. etc. etc.. blah blah.. hoop-la.. look at me.. kinda talk, that gives the rest of us a bad rep with folks. These are the EXACT comments that keep people from WANTING to hear about Jesus and His marvelous works! He made absolutely NO mistakes.. He NEVER sinned. No. Not once. Homosexuals are not a mistake. People have turned their backs on God. THEY are the ones who made the mistake. You cannot believe for a second, that if you do something out of the will of God -which means.. without prayer, without His guidance, and just going and doing whatever FEELS good at the time- that HE is the one that sends these things into your life!?! If you are truly saved and one of His children, then you will have (hopefully) dug into your Bible pages a little more than just spewing out things you have over heard through the years to back up your 'opinions' on this subject. I know that MY Bible tells me that -- yes, you can have the 'things of this world' & you may even be satisfied for a season. But you 'WILL NOT inherit the Kingdom of Heaven' living in YOUR iniquities either. TRUE repentance means turning from the sins He has already payed the price for, and NOT returning to them. We aren't meant to live 'perfect' as so many say we(christians) think every one should.. (That always gives me a mental question mark as to who they are hearing tell them that..lol..) and believing a man's word over the word of the Christ Himself, who DID walk this earth. Who LIVED in AND overcame the lusts of this Flesh. (For our flesh is nothing, but will go back to the earth in carnal death) Who tells us He wants us to rely on Him. He wants us to leave our burdens with Him. Who KNOWS we aren't perfect. Otherwise, wouldn't that also make His crucifixion in vain? Which is not possible, btw. :) All He wants is for US TO COME humbly to Him, and accept Him. He doesn't say He wouldn't forgive a homosexual that TURNS from the act. But one LIVING in the act, I do not for a second believe that person can testify a TRUE testimony to salvation. Because MY Bible ALSO tells me that HIS children will KNOW, in the moment, what is right and wrong. So YES! I can say that homosexuals ARE an ABOMINATION. And that they were CREATED from the SINS of OUR fleshly iniquities(or sins). For in MY Bible, I CAN BACK IT UP. BUT THEY TOO.. have a chance to repent, TURN FROM THEIR SIN, and accept Jesus as the Messiah. But that also would entail reading of His word, and prayer. Which I think is where many "Christians" have lost the true way and gospel. He IS love. But you MUST seek the truth (not just any old thing that comes out of a man's mouth) and seek Him, and LOVE Him. He doesn't promise us prosperity here on earth. But if His will was being done.. Hmmm. That's a thought. What might be different IF we were living in His will and NOT in our covetous wants?
Isn't there a photo out there somewhere of Ryan after President Obama went after Ryan's insane budget? Ryan was in the room, and after the president's remarks, there is a photo of Ryan walking away like he had just been humiliated by the president - which is exactly what happened.
We must find that photo. It's classic.
Don't I recall a congressional seat that was won by a Democrat in a highly favored Republican district? Wasn't the issue Paul Ryan's budget? Just askin? An answer is not necessary.
Pat Boston MA.
Isn't there a photo out there somewhere of Ryan after President Obama went after Ryan's insane budget?
How about this picture Pat?
http://www.democraticunderground.com/101747552
@Bev - that is a funny photo. Sure to piss off a few tea party bagsters. Does beg the question that if the selection is Paul Ryan, will Eric Erickson re-tweet his Romney just lost the election.
Your picture might be here:
where, Daniel?
Apparently as a new user I can't insert a URL so, instead, please google "What Paul Ryan and Barack Obama Really Said..." and the Forbes site should show you the image.
Google "Youtube Hiding Spending Doesn't Reduce Spending"
“A Nightmare on Easy Street…for Republicans,” a film by the American People:
President Obama is re-elected handily in November. The Democrats also reach a super-majority in the Senate and recapture the House.
Now the fun begins.
Hillary Clinton tenders her resignation as Secretary of State in early December,
effective at noon on Inauguration Day in January, 2013.
President Obama nominates popular and highly-regarded former U.N. Ambassador and ex-Governor of New Mexico Bill Richardson to succeed Hillary at the State Department.
Eric Holder quietly resigns as Attorney General a few months into 2013, neutralizing the animus of the Right regarding Fast and Furious while at the same time effectively neutering chief inquisitor Darrel Issa himself, an act for which Holder is awarded the Medal of Freedom.
President Obama nominates New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to replace departing Attorney General Holder, effectively opening the door for Hillary Clinton to run for and win the Governorship of her home state, New York.
With her election to the New York statehouse, Hillary fills the only remaining gap in her resume, that of Chief Executive of a large mid-Atlantic state, providing her with the day-to-day managerial expertise which so many on the Right claim is essential to any legitimate national candidate possessing presidential aspirations.
As Governor of New York, Hillary leads the way for the wholesale statewide implementation of the Affordable Care Act, establishing a paradigm for other states across the nation while simultaneously fulfilling her lifelong dream, begun as First Lady in 1992, of providing affordable quality health care to a beleaguered populace.
Having comfortably and strategically distanced herself from the day-to-day operations of the ground-breaking Obama Presidency, Hillary positions herself for her own run for the Oval Office in 2016.
Secretary of State Bill Richardson is positioned to accept the nomination of his party as Democratic Vice-Presidential candidate in 2016, thereby blunting the attractiveness of Christie’s selection of either Rubio or Cruz to a growing number of Hispanic voters while at the same time energizing the Democratic base of the western states.
Upon their historic victory, powered in no large part by the unanticipated emergence of a coalition of bipartisan women voters who see in Hillary’s candidacy their greatest near-term opportunity to shatter once and for all the glass ceiling inside the White House, President Hillary Clinton now leads the way for the nationwide implementation of the Affordable Care Act, laying the groundwork for what will become within her second term the ultimate prize of Single-Payer in the form of Medicare-for-All.
Upon the anticipated death of an aging Justice Scalia or the unanticipated institutionalization of either Justice Thomas or Justice Alito within her Presidency, President Clinton sets another historic precedent by placing in nomination the name of a humbled and grateful former President Barack Hussein Obama as Justice on the Supreme Court, the first American to have served in each of the three branches of the federal government, effectively restoring a Center-Left majority which upholds and affirms Medicare-for-All, and while so doing publishes the most succinct majority opinion in the history of American jurisprudence, invoking the age-old populist axiom: “IT’S CONSTITUTIONAL, BITCHES!”
President Clinton and Vice-President Richardson serve through 2024, by which time the United States of America has succeeded in colonizing Mars under Space Admiral Newt Gingrich and the emotionless, pointy-headed science officer “Dr.” Rush Limbaugh, selected by President Clinton for the win-win potential of the appointments. Republicans migrate en masse.
The End.
No animals were injured in the production of this nightmare for Republicans.
No, but I can find the picture of O-worthless with his head up his a$$. Does that help?
If it helps you you get through the night, Jerry, it's all good. Remember, it's still one man (person), one vote. And more of those individual votes are probably going for Obama over Romney.
Chef Deryl,
Unfortunately, I agree with you about the outcome of the Presidential election. And the result for the US will be breaking the $2 Trillion annual deficit mark, continued high unemployment and a new recession. All we can hope for now is the Republicans to take the Senate. At least then we won't dig ourselves deeper into the hole.
GAME OVER!
NOBAMA2012... never send a "community organizer" to do a CEO's job!
It's the ECONOMY STUPID!
ROMNEY/RYAN 2012.... believe in the American People, NOT the Government!
You are absolutely right, Chef..He walked away like a SPOILED BRAT whose parents told him to go to his room....It is time, " GO TO YOUR ROOM PAULIE, AND DON'T COME OUT UNTIL YOU GROW UP!" This is more frightening than the "W" and Cheney, watch out America.....
So Mittens pick Paul Ryan......well you can move seniors back in the Obama column. Thank you, T-Publican purists who can't see outside their own little bubble that aught to do the trick.
Jesus was a community organizer.
There is an article: The Daily Beast: Ryan's Shrewd Budget Payday
Jun 17, 2011 12:09 AM EDT
Thanks for info. Copied for dissemination. :-)
Paul Ryan's selection is meaningless, this election is still about Romney's integrity, ties to Mormonism, off shore bank accounts and refusal to let the American people see his past tax return statements.....
Rep. Ryan will be a fine pick to augment the superior leadership, and vision Mitt Romney will soon bring to our White House.
A superior team is forming to lead America out of the darkness of the last four years, and into the healing light of a new GOP dawn. A GOP utopia that will last for decades.
Let the healing begin.
I just threw up on my keyboard, Joseph. What kind of crazy world do you live in???
(please tell me that was sarcasm!)
ditto any idea how to get vomit out of a keyboard?
was this sarcasm, maybe? like a thousand year Reich!
Is that meant to be sarcastic? I hope so, because the reality of that scenario is frightening beyond belief. Massive unemployment lines, bread lines making the Santa Monica Freeway at rush hour look small, a stock market that bottoms out at next to zero, massive bank failures, giant spikes in foreclosures, 5 more wars in 4 more years lasting 33 years, 90% of taxes spent on defense, elimination of all equal rights legislation. Wow, what a Utopia - well, maybe for the pale, stale, male crowd.
LOL
Last guy that said something like that was gone in about 8 years..... it didn't last 1,000....
sounds like the beginning of the next 1000 year reich
Really? I mean Really? Let the healing begin? where were you from 2001 to 2008? in a cave? go back to that?
Oh yea because the Bush/Cheney Years were so bright.
cleaning a keyboard - disassemble then wash in alcohol (isopropyl is much cheaper than ethanol unless you live close to the Mexican border or have your own "still") dry well before re-assembling - 15 minutes in the sun works well.
Romney just lost my vote
I thought he was going to cross party lines, but this choice shows 4 more years of trickle down economics and other 1%er games. He picked a male version of Sarah Palin.
I am sorry...that joke is NOT anything like Sarah Palin. You may want to look more closely before someone calls you on comparing apples to oranges.
Red dev that is pure horse pucky.
Joseph Parent, can you send me a bag of that S-hit you have been smoking?? Do you really think that Stiff Mitt & Eddie Munster will lead anybody to any kind of Utopia??? Having Romney as your candidate just accelerated the demise of the GOP which was headed towards being the WHIG party of the 21st Century..
Only empty minded people would think, like you! But I guess, it is true. If these two are on your ticket, then empty minded people like you, would follow satin to hell. If thay were to win, then you have dragged america there too. Hope you can live withyourself then.
True, I'm sure Ryan at least knows that North Korea is not an ally, that we are not at war with Iran, that Saddam Hussein wasn't responsible for 9-11, and doesn't confuse media criticism with restrictions to the First Amendment. And I don't think Ryan ever spoke about death panels, though I may be wrong about that one.
It's not really a very high bar, huh?
Someone's swimming in that Egyptian river.
I'm still laughing and I read it five minutes ago..."new GOP dawn"..."A GOP utopia". LOL
Neither side is worth a vote. Its a choice between the lesser of two evils and everyone here has a polarized opinion of what that is.
This ia a Hail Mary pass. I really thought Romney was close behind Obama. This proves he is not.
well... he could have picked Failin' or Bachman... (but then we would KNOW he's brainless FOR SURE...)
While his polling is close on a national (popular vote) scale, he is in a really bad spot electorially. If the vote was today, based on current polling, he would lose 95% of the time.
So... he needs to do something about that.
GAME OVER!
NOBAMA2012... never send a "community organizer" to do a CEO's job!
It's the ECONOMY STUPID!
ROMNEY/RYAN 2012.... believe in the American People, NOT the Government!
The American public watches Jersey Shore and the Real Housewives franchise.
I think I'll stick with our intelligent president to continue to improve our economy and country over the masses who aren't qualified for the job.
I guess GOPers and baggers think anyone can do the job of president. Their choices of candidates make that evident.
You have posted this pathetic nonsense 3 to 4 times that I count. Could be more. It won't make a difference.
In the words of another poster "Stiff Mitt and Eddie Munster" don't stand a chance to destroy this country.
Obama/Biden 2012
This choice will be extremely well received by those who would have voted for a dead dog against Obama. I don't think Romney will gain one vote by this decision.
Oh the crazies in the Tea Party will be salivating. Stupid thing is these people who "don't want the Government involved with their health care" aren't out burining their Medicare cards! They also "Don't want the Government giving money to people who don't work" but they are still cashing their Social Security checks! The seniors who hated Obama are blind to what Romney will do to them! He's White, so they will vote for him. (I'm White and I'm voting Obama!) Paul Ryan's "Plans" are ridiculous. and Romney is completely out of touch. Neither have an ounce of success to bring to the financial mess we are starting to dig out of. (Romney buys companies, guts them and sells them to foreign countries...(Yes that will work...NOT) ... We need to stay the course and continue the progress that is being made....Put a few more Dems in the Congress so More gets done too! Reps are running up bills and starting unendiing wars and never paying for them....Put a Congress in that will work WITH the President to get more done!
And those voting again for Obama have already voted for Obama's "dead dog" of a Vice President and will do so again.
I know of more seniors that will vote for the Republican ticket in my Florida area than Obama so their Social Security can be cut and retirement age raised to 99 years old yto save it , medcare plan the seniors will pay 80% and medicare 20% great plan to save those programs.. I just read about Willards daddy saving the cars Nash,Hudson,Rambler and the American Motors. Not sure where I can buy a brand new Rambler now.after Romney SR saved those cars.
Dee, When's the last time you looked at your pay stub? We pay into Social Security and Medicare.
The deficit was $1.4 trillion in FY ’09; $1.3 trillion in ’10; $1.5 trillion in ’11 (projected); and $1.1 billion in ’12 (projected).
and the last time we could say we had a surplus was the year that Clinton handed over the WH
Romnuts needs to stay where he is
odb2,
So how is Obama going to achieve a $1.1 billion (projected) deficit this year? Either Obama and his handlers are dreaming or this is another case of MSNBC showing their true colors again.
And the Obama plan to reduce the deficit is where?
It was obviously a typo...if you read the full story it said that the deficiet was not projected to change much at all.
It should have read $1.1 trillion.
Thanks Romney. You make it so easy.
If this is true, it is the dumbest decision Romney has made. He just gave the election to Pres. Obama. Thank you Mr. Romney!
GAME OVER!
NOBAMA2012... never send a "community organizer" to do a CEO's job!
It's the ECONOMY STUPID!
ROMNEY/RYAN 2012.... believe in the American People, NOT the Government!
Agreed! The Obama camp wanted Ryan and they got their man. This reminds me of Cain/Palin'08 or should I say "Palin/Cain"
Believe in america being dictated to by the 1% believe in the corperations and wealthy Wall Street has picked who they want for VP
Pat Boston MA.
You know Ron, normally I would be skeptical that Romney is picking Ryan based on sources alone, however, the First Read staff know their stuff, so I think Ryan is the guy.
Pat
it's official FOX NOISE just said so about a hour ago.
http://www.foxnews.com/
======================================
They don't sound so ecstatic over @ the FOX NATION either. The GOP knows it's losing.
If Paul Ryan is smart, he'll decline the VP offer - Voters are shining up their red tomatoes to chuck at EVERY CONGRESSMAN East & West of the Old Mississippi River! And if you are unfortunate enough to have the title of Budget Committee Chairman while our U.S Government has a Deficit deeper than Newt Gingrich's colon, you better put on your cheese head helmet & hide behind security.
I would expect Ryan already accepted before the Romney campaign scheduled the announcement for tomorrow, so there doesn't seem to be any chance of him declining.
It is the thundering echo within the bubble. They believe their own propaganda, can't believe that flaunting such an extreme right wing proponent will turn off independents.
Most seniors don't seem to understand that the GOP will kill Mediacare and Social Security if given half a chance, and most GOP candidates can skirt the specifics and talk about "fiscal responsability" and garner the applause of the people that will end up paying with their blood for the cuts in services (while the rich get more refunds and tax cuts). However, Ryan's budget is rather specific, and pinning a "medicare killer" label to him is far too direct.
Unless something else happens, it is the Democrat's election to lose...
TO: BOB UR UNCLE; Lol... "If Paul Ryan is smart, he'll decline the VP offer - Voters are shining up their red tomatoes to chuck at EVERY CONGRESSMAN East & West of the Old Mississippi River!" THAT is so funny. LOL.
Well, I guess Romney figured out a way to take the heat off his tax returns, and substitute the Ryan Plan as a national referendum issue.
Obviously, if they win in November, the nation will have approved the Ryan Plan.
But, if the nation vetoes the Ryan Plan in November, what does that leave for Ryan? Can the Republicans hold onto the House if the Ryan Plan is turned down?
Talk about a roll of the dice, someone's been hanging out far too much in an Adelson casino.
They just bet the House on winning the Presidency.
On behalf of Feisty Redhead....... Romney just laid a hot steamy footlong TURD!
Feisty Redhead probably is eating that footlong turd and then some.
Really - does it matter whom Mittens picks? If the magic underpants guy doesn't release his tax returns he is toast. The few remaining middle class and the rest of America isn't going to vote for this cheat (aside from the uber-wealthy).
Nobody in this do-nothing Congress should be eligible for a job more important than bagging groceries.
That's almost as good a pick as Sarah Palin.
ACTUALLY I think that Ryan and Sarah are from the SAME nutty family.
So it's over I guess. I was praying for Bobby Jindal and 2 months of talking about exorcisms.
GOP = Goodbye Old Pharts
No Social Security or Medicare for YOU!
What the heck are Republicans thinking??? They've already alienated women, minorities, union workers, most of the middle class (those who don't vote against their own best interests)... now they're ticking off the elderly?
Guess they're counting on super-rich white guys, racist redneck morons, and people who vote for "good hair".
I knew Mittens was clueless, but picking Ryan is beyond stupid. I didn't think they could do worse than McCain/Palin... but, wow.
Dems... get out and vote so we don't get stuck with these two male model airheads!!! Oy vey!
Mittens I love that..
I'm worried that the disenfranchisement of voters in all of the swing states is what the GOP is placing their hopes on. This worries me alot!
I understand that Herman and Eddie Munster have picked up some votes among the gothic crowd though.
Most republicans who want to end Medicare and SS have the good sense to say "years from now". NOT RYAN! He wants to put seniors on the street "for their own good" so they won't be beholding to government. HE, of course, has held no "big person job" OTHER than for government his entire LIFE!
Makes it a very clear choice...austerity and destroying the safety net for the middle class and poor because it is necessary in order for the wealthy to have another tax break. Ryan sounds good, but his policies are gobblygook. They will explode the deficit. Remember this guy voted for the Iraq war, bush tax cuts, and the unfunded prescription drug plan. he also voted to privatize social Security. And he has pissed off the nuns who do not think much of his plan to decimate programs for the poor because of his deep faith and morality associated with the church. I always wonder how that works...say you are doing something in God's name that God is not for?
I am so very happy. Obama has another 4 years in the bag now. Romney just lost half of the swing state and my home state of Florida
Way to go Republicans, we Democrats thank yo
GAME OVER!
NOBAMA2012... never send a "community organizer" to do a CEO's job!
It's the ECONOMY STUPID!
ROMNEY/RYAN 2012.... believe in the American People, NOT the Government!
Floridian69 Vote Republican I want my guns so to hell with the elderly let them die I have ones in my family that just know Obama is going to come and take their guns so they are arming them selves to fight off the Obama's army HA
Clayton we all have nuts in our family, it sounds like your one of them in your own family though.
You want your guns to protect what exactly, if you don't care if your family dies?
Oops..
Awesome. This guy is awesome. The USA now has a shot of saving itself by electing Romney/Ryan. Joe is going to look like an idiot in the debates vs Ryan. Tthis is an all-star cast that knows what they are talking about. Anyone that claims they really care about the USA would never vote for BHO/Biden what a joke we have in the office. Can they ever tell the truth about anything without spin to fool the useful idiots that will vote for them.
Yeah, having flipped burgers, run a weinermobile and been a personal trainer untiil, at age TWENTY EIGHT he found a permanent teat in the federal Congress really qualifies him twelve years later to be Prez in waiting. Yet he says the REST of us are "weakened" by government support! Only good enough for HIM, I guess.
R U TRipp-ing?
Have you heard Ryan speak? He can't go up against Biden. Maybe if he learns to wink and wears a red skirt he'll have half a chance.
Speaking of jokes, have you heard the one about the ex' Gov., Olympic organizer and businessman who wants to be President? He won't talk about being a Gov., an Olympic organizer or a businessman, though. That's too personal.
T Ripp - When the Democrats bring up the fact that Paul Ryan got his College Education on his dead dad's Social Security
And wants to take that away for all generations - answer that Mr Ryan
Plus his obsession with Ayn Rand the atheist - whom he makes his staff read her books incessantly
A real fanatic - obviously he thinks he's Gary Cooper in the Fountainhead who raped Patricia Neal
Nice guy - body builder - waiting for photos going out
Plus the Catholic Church has denounced him as immoral - that will play well with the Christian Establishment
Hello Barbara Jackson; People forget that Ayn Rand went on Welfare when she had Cancer!!!!!!
Teri - not only that - she applied under her secretary's name
Hi - glad you know about her - I outgrew her when I was 20
And I said oh my god - did I want to scrub this woman's toilet
You also know Alan Greenspan was one of her admirer's?
I still remember Rand saying in an interview: "money is not power in a political sense." And now there's a VP candidate that believes that!
Just to set the record straight (though I suspect that at least Barbara and Teri will still not get it). Ayn Rand (a pen name - or "professional name", whose real name was O'Connor..same as her husband's) took Social Security and Medicare.
In case you were not aware, Social Security is a fund which was set up specifically as personal retirement plan managed by the government - Rand did not like Social Security because the money was taken without consent and she thought people should be allowed to choose what happened with their property. Medicare is an insurance fund that people pay into - Rand had the same complaint about Medicare.
Neither of these are "welfare" - which requires no investment (especially now that Obama has eliminated the work requirement). Rand paid into the Social Security retirement fund and paid Medicare premiums...so, what exactly is the problem with her using the insurance she paid for and the retirement account she funded?
The real problem here is that you people have no clue about freedom and you still get to vote.
So Ryan is a marketing guy, how did he write a federal budget plan..... Oh yeah, the heritage foundation wrote it, he is trying to sell it........
Mutt and Jeff ...
oboma/biden frick/frack
BHO hates the USA and Biden is embarrasing as a VP.
Yea and Kim Whordashian is smarter than miss I can see Russia from my house Parasailing.
Hey libtard! yes down here! I am not a Palin fan but, this shows you how stupid you people are Palin never said "I can see Russia from my house" Tina Fey said that on SNL. Here is the link if you are smart enough on what she said.
Gee, congratulations. You are technically correct, what Sarah Palin DID say was "you can actually see Russia, from land, here in Alaska." A distinction without a difference insofar as she advanced this dubious (and actually untrue) factoid as evidence of her foreign policy acument.
Correction to typo...ACUMEN
Vote Loophole Romney/Coupon Ryan! 2012!
Let's Sandusky this country!
Can they ever tell the truth about anything without spin to fool the useful idiots that will vote for them.
Its a Republican thing..
hey tommy, just like a libs, you like to cut, edit, paste, mis lead, doctor docs, hide doc, just like BHO/Holder
T Ripp - Frankly the only person that I find out of line is you
So you just jumped in - I guess Faux Entertainment doesn't want you - the only time I have agreed with them
