House Budget Committee Chairman Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., speaks on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, July 10, 2012.
Mitt Romney's campaign has announced that the presumptive GOP nominee has chosen House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan as his vice-presidential running mate. The two candidates will appear together at a campaign event in Norfolk, Va., Saturday morning.
The official announcement will be in front of the U.S.S. Wisconsin -- which just happens to be Ryan's home state.
After three sources close to the Romney campaign indicated to NBC News late Friday night that Ryan would be the pick, the Romney camp issued a press release just after 7:00 am ET, stating: “Mitt Romney & Paul Ryan: America’s Comeback Team.” Around the same time, the campaign’s “VP app” also announced that Ryan would be the choice.
The Romney campaign billed the ticket "America's comeback team" in the release announcing the decision, saying that Ryan "has worked tirelessly leading the effort to reign in federal spending and increase accountability to taxpayers."
With recent national polls showing Romney trailing President Barack Obama, Ryan is a bold pick. He will excite economic conservatives, and is considered one of his party's rising stars.

But his budget plan -- which would substantially transform Medicare and Medicaid -- is a lightning rod. In fact, Democrats argue that Ryan's selection marks an opportunity to highlight Ryan's desired changes to Medicare, which include giving future seniors a voucher or premium support to help pay for their health insurance. Under Ryan's plan, future seniors would have the choice of using the voucher/premium support to purchase private insurance or through Medicare's traditional fee-for-service model.
Recommended: Pawlenty: 'I'm not disappointed'
"We've spent 18 months trying to make House races about their plan for Medicare and Mitt Romney just did it for us overnight," said one Democratic operative.
Ryan had been the focus of intense VP speculation for the last few days. Washington economic conservatives -- including the Wall Street Journal editorial page and the Weekly Standard -- have pushed for his selection.

In addition, Romney told NBC's Chuck Todd on Thursday he was looking for someone with "a vision for the country," who "adds something to the political discourse about the direction of the country” -- a sign that he might make a bold pick in Ryan.
At 11:11 pm ET, the Romney campaign announced that it would be making its VP selection on Saturday. And as First Read reported earlier this week, the VP finalists were Ryan, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, and Ohio Sen. Rob Portman.
NBCNews.com's Mike O'Brien contributed to this report.

And the winner is Paul Ryan!
At 12:02, Chuck Todd announced that it will be Paul Ryan. Again, Willard caves to the Tea Party. How lucky can the Democrats be!!
This isn't a Presidential ticket, it is a Creature Night double feature with Willard and Eddie Munster. Now all they need is Elvira to be the keynote speaker!
William:
Your comment is spot-on as well.
Romney/Palin 2012!!
This is almost as bad as McCain picking Palin for his running mate. Romney needed to pick someone more toward the center of the political spectrum. Instead he is making the same mistake that McCain made and is caving in the the extreme right wing of the party. Unfortunately, this selection will have the same effect as the Palin selection did - it will hand the election to the Democrats.
On a different note, I realize that it is really just a formality at this point, but isn't traditional to wait to name your running mate until after you actually have the nomination. I know that it is obvious that Romney is going to be the nominee, but I still think that it is bad form for Romney to be announcing his running mate before the nomination is formalized.
Hah! Hah! That Liar, and Tax Cheat, and Pension Thief, Mitt Romney, has pick Paul Ryan, the Radical Teabagger, for his v.p. running-mate!
Does Life get any Better than this?
Don't you pathetic Republicans and youmcrazy Right-wing Teabaggers realise that as far as the 2012 Presidential Election is concerned.
Your NOT just LOSING,
You've ALREADY LOST.
Chicago style street Politics, will ALWAYS DEFEAT and BEAT, a LIAR and TAX CHEAT, and PENSION THIEF.
All Hail Obama, Ruler, Master, and Overlord of all you Republicans and Teabaggers!
No, it is clearly not on the same level as McCain/Palin. Ryan is an obnoxious, disingenuous demagogue, but he is clearly far superior to Palin.
It's still a bad pick for a number of reasons. Obama wins, in a walk.
...because the Ryan budget wants to make the Medicare into a Vulture program (voucher), so Mitt the Vulture has liked Ryan because Mitt the Vulture can make more money from the Ryan's innovation ... without ever paying any taxes.
Hey, remember this?????
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), a leading advocate of shrinking entitlement spending and the architect of the plan to privatize Medicare, spent Wednesday evening sipping $350 wine with two like-minded conservative economists at the swanky Capitol Hill eatery Bistro Bis.

HahahaAll right, two frigging middle aged white boys!!!!! Gotta love but I guess that's all the rethugli-con party has to offer.
Drive on America. Obama/Biden 2012

JS in SD
This is almost as bad as McCain picking Palin for his running mate.
Hahahaha---God JS give us a brfeak. McCain didn't pick Palin. The rethugli-con party did the picking. McCain wanted Joe Liberman. You cons just can't seem to get your history straight.
This is the middle of the end for Romney and his campaign. He gave up on his message on the economy, because it was not working. They have been visibly desperate to put the past behind them, and change the subject. He has played the last of his cards to try to get votes. Watch the polls plunge slowly after this.
Good Morning Pat: I see you are a late owl too. Welcome home.
Why thank you Mr. Romney you are most generous to we Democrats.
Your decision will virtually ensure 4 more for 44, Marvellous.
Despite being registered Democrat, I'm a moderate, and I'll vote Republican if they put up a decent pair of candidates.
Jon Huntsman/Colin Powell 2012
Yea, not gonna see that in my lifetime. I guess President Obama gets my vote.
Gingerbread Mamma: Good to see you up and writing in the middle of the night. We Democrats have something to cheer about. I don't think the voters in Florida will want to lose Medicare for their children and grand kids.
Hello Ron and Gingerbread.
Paul Ryan? You've got to be kidding.
Same error as McCain ... caved instead of picking for the right person for the job.
Adios Mitt, it's all over now!
OK now you can stick a fork in Mitt. :D
He just lost any moderates who may have thought he had promise. The last person we want is the Doctor NO himself.
Dumb pick from a brain-dead candidate.
Al, Creature Night Double Feature? LoL.
Vice President Biden wins this debate. Hands down. He's on our side. Ryan is not.
Although I doubt Ryan will demand that he call Biden "Joe", because he can't pronounce Biden like some other jacka$$ vp pick not that long ago.
Biden will mop the floor with Ryan in the VP debate. :D
Shout it from the Rooftops! Haleluliah! Praise the Lord! God Bless America!
Obama the Great and Merciful, will Now be our President and Protector, of All us Freedom Loving Americans, from all things Republican for the Next Four (yes!4) more years.
Thank-you President Obama for protecting my Family, and the Familes of Policemen, Firemen, Teachers, Women, Mexicans, Gays, People of Color, and all Undecided voters, from the likes of Mitt Romney and the Republicans.
Let's send Mitt Romney and the Republicans back to the "Dung Heap of History". yeah!
Poor Mittless. :D
Good Morning Ron and Pat, I hope this is true, could we be this lucky????
I am a night owl at heart but don't often get the chance to stay up late and play but its Fri/Sat. Hope you both have a great weekend....this if true would make it a great one!!!
He could have picked Condoleezza Rice. She's ambitious and might have agreed. A well educated black woman, with experience as National Security Advisor and Secretary of State. I don't especially like Ms. Rice, but I respect her, and that would have caused me to consider crossing party lines and voting Republican. But Ryan? You'd think after the huge mistake of putting Palin on the ticket last time they would have learned. What are they thinking?
So somebody told Mitt he has to have Ryan as his VP. Romney clearly hasn't got the stones to pick his own loser, someone had to pick one sure to tick off the seniors and college kids. Can you imagine Ryan being a heartbeat away from the presidency? It's almost as scary as Palin was.
Pres. Obama and VP Biden are happy campers tonight. This is absolutely perfect. In continuation of Mr. Romney's history of pandering to the base of the Republican Party, and attempting to appear the "tough guy" (we all remember his 2008 campaign where he tried to make us believe he was a NRA Life Member Card-toting "hunter" telling the press that he mostly "shoots varmints").
On Saturday Mr. Romney will board a 70-year-old WWII Era Battleship, named for the state which his VP selection represents in the lower house of congress; Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin.
The USS Wisconsin is a fitting choice for this announcement by a man who wants to appear tough, for the Right-wing core of the Republican Party who have him pegged as "a wimp". But Romney is in reality so out of touch with world affairs that he wasn't aware that the Soviet Union had dissolved more than 21 years ago; just weeks ago labeling "the Soviets" (something which does not exist) as America's "greatest threat".
The USS Wisconsin is also emblematic of the Republican Party's pattern of reckless cronyism and unfettered deficit spending during the Reagan, Bush 1 and Bush 2 administrations. In 1986 the hero of the Republican Party, Ronald Reagan, ordered the US Navy to take the USS Wisconsin, a then already 43-year-old decommissioned WWII Battleship, and her three sister ships out of mothballs and modernize and reactivate them; at a cost of $1.7 Billion (or approx. $425 Million each). That $1.7 Billion (almost $7.6 Billion in 2012 dollars) was added to the US Debt., and we have been paying interest on that debt for the past 26 years even though the four ships were decommissioned again many, many years ago.
And the killer is that the US Navy testified before Congress that it did not have a compelling role or mission for the four old battleships, considered them outmoded and vulnerable, and did not want them in the fleet. The Navy preferred to build four, new, modern and much faster and more capable Guided Missile Frigates, for less money than it would cost to refit the old Battleships. But the Navy was overruled, and they were ordered to modernize them and reactivate them anyway. And now we have four 70-year-old decommissioned museum pieces for which the money was squandered, and the Navy does not have their four, fast Guided Missile Frigates. Emblematic of Republican chest pounding military expenditures, which Mr. Romney has made clear he will continue while cutting entitlements to pay for those military expenditures.
And Romney is selecting Rep. Paul Ryan for his VP. The same Paul Ryan who wants to turn Medicare into a voucher program and wants to gut social Security, all in the name of turning the nation's back on entitlements which are desperately needed by millions of our citizens.
And now, Mr. Romney and the Republicans at every opportunity try to blame the Democratic Party for the huge National Debt, and maintain that they are in contrast "fiscal Conservatives" ...and they hope that the American voters are just stupid enough to buy their bull.
And, unfortunately they are probably right. The voters are just stupid enough to buy it. Hopefully enough American voters can still make rational and well-reasoned decisions.
what a Failure!
so...give Mitt the Failure an 'F' for pigging Ryan - or a finger, whichever is more convenient.
It can get worse for GOP before it gets better...maybe never.
Dave, Condoleeza Rice would be a decent pick, except she is pro-choice. The R's today just can't tolerate someone, regardless of how well qualified they might be, who doesn't toe the party line.
Wonder whatever happened to the Big Tent nonsense.
And the GOP leans so far right they drag the country off a cliff. Now Ryan will be selling vouchers in place of Medicare. I hope Obama makes this clear in Florida.
Great pick Romney.......
Obama/Biden 2012
Mitt Romney is an active believing MORMON.
Mitt Romney believes that the Lord, God, created the universe.
Mitt Romney believes that He sent His only Son to die for my sins.
And Mitt Romney believes that ancient Jews built boats and sailed to America long before Columbus.
Mitt Romney believes that God has a plan for all of us.
Mitt Romney believes that plan involves us each getting our own planet.
And Mitt Romney believes; that the current President of The Church, Thomas Monson, speaks directly to God.
And Mitt Romney believes that in 1978, God changed his mind about black people!
Mitt Romney believes that God lives on a planet called Kolob.
Mitt Romney believes that Jesus has his own planet as well.
And Mitt Romney believes that the Garden of Eden was in Jackson County, Missouri.
These are only a few of the beliefs of the MORMON religion.
Now, do you REALLY want this gullible person in the white house leading our nation?
What more could OBAMA possibly ask for, that's another 10-15% more votes got to love how the GOP just keeps screwing up ....... LMAO
Wow alot of delusional Marxists on here further bury their ignorant heads and buying obummers lies, Romney is not the best choice but a heck of alot better than that liar we have now.
And if Obama does win come November.... Democrats please don't tell us that it is still Bush's fault when our economy is STILL in the toilet. We all know how that went.
OHPINNYUNN: It's either him or the jihadist we have now in the White House. Take your pick.
Heh, you libtards sure are giddy tonight. I am basically indifferent about the election at this point. The fact of the matter is whether Romney or Obama wins most of the adminstrative policies beneath the facade presented to us by the MSM will remain exactly the same. The state of politics in this country sickens me. We have learned absolutely nothing from the recession and those needless wars in the Middle East. We are going to continue spending like a clueless teenager while sticking our nose in other countries' affairs with our inteventioanlist foreign policy. One thing's for sure, the worst has yet to come for this nation.
Excellent choice. Ryan drafted the plan to kill Medicare, and now we can finally do it. If those elderly freeloaders can't afford to pay for their own healthcare - they can go back to work (at minimum wage). If not - then they don't deserve the privilge of health care (remember that it is not a right). And don't forget - God keeps the true believers healthy. If you get sick or have an accident - it is God's punishment and you deserve it.
Next is Social Security - time to kill it off also.
I pefer to refer to them as "DUMOCRATS", retarded folks are smarter than these turds!
Romney is going down! This is gonna be as much fun to watch as the McCain/Palin sinking ship was. Buh-Bye, Romney.
Obama/Biden 2012
"The problem with Socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money" Margaret Thatcher
The dole suckers of America, as are fully represented in this thread, just don't get it. Eventually people will find a way to stop giving you THEIR money.
Just like the wealthy of Socialist France are now telling the money sucking government. At 75%, they will leave the country or find other ways to keep THEIR money.
Obama clearly has the support of the useless and lazy dole-suckers of this country! I'm just hoping the rest of us still out number them come November 6th, and want to keep America - America. If not, everyone but the top 2% will have crap everything, courtesy of the government! Even in the horrific state that communist Russia was in, there always was a top tier. They didn't go without. Everyone else waited in line for stale bread and moldy cheese. And hopes of getting their hands on some Vodka to forget the hell they were living in! Eat up dole-suckers!
Kleenex anyone? LMAO
@Dave-2550157
Dave, as a registered Independent, I like the ticket you propose FAR better than those which will actually be on the ballot in November.
Indeed, Gov./Ambassador Huntsman was the only bona-fide capable, qualified, rational (and intelligent) candidate in the Republican Primaries. And gosh, who wouldn't want Secretary / General Powell as VP working in the White House.
But alas we will not have such a tasteful choice of ticket in November, so I guess President Obama gets my vote as well.
[ PS. The only way I could imagine voting for a Romney/Ryan ticket is if I were a foreign sleeper agent trying to damage the US; and even then I would have to hold my nose! ] ;-)
Do people even care about the deficit any more? It's old news. Our credit was downgraded and guess what happened? NOTHING! Austerity will be disastrous for the economy.
So, the 70 people killed/injured at the Dark Night Returns shooting, or the six people shot at the Sikh Temple, were not true believers of God?
Also, don't forget, those elderly people that you so quickly eschew paid into a system that promised them returns in the end...not unlike your religion, only people can point to a SS Check or Medicare payment for proof of existence...what have you got?
Ohhh... - as a "lapsed" Mormon, I can tell you your statements are full of untruths and outright lies. If you feel you must criticize Mr. Romney's religion, at least get the facts right and be truthful.
Who cares about jobs and medicare?
As a soon-to-be-rich future Powerball winner (the American Dream) I'm voting for Romney/Ryan to make my future tax planning easier. I'm hoping all intelligent, informed voters will help me out.
[/sarcasm]
Got the impression that the Ryan Budget doesn't sit well with non-wealthy senior citizens.
@VinnieSaltine
Vinnie, you're actually on the same side. The post by 'interested observer' was written as satirical sarcasm. Read it again in that spirit and you'll get the satire. He/she is making fun of the Right Wing and Evangelical Right (and pretty well, at that!) A wink emoticon would help, but for some reason he/she doesn't add them.
So Mitten's decides to become a Tea-Bagger. "LOL" About the only thing you couldn't hang on him was the actions of this Incompetent GOP Congress. But now he's picked the head ass-hole of it and has dived right into the @!$%# pile. This next 3 months will be a lot of fun.....
Obama/Biden 2012
Ryan at least is intelligent, Biden, not so much. There is a growing undercurrent of economic fear and uncertainty in this country. Obama's plans and agendas will only deepen economic disaster. However, if that is what you want, then yes, vote in your personal 'stash' provider.
Better to actually care about the economy and the national debt, however, when you want the government to take care of you, please remember where the government gets its money. Only so much borrowing and deficit spending before Greece happens.
I think Romney has been drinking too much Koch.
I think Romney has been drinking too much Koch.
Fire - You mean he's been "Snorting" too much Koch....
Ryan at least is intelligent, Biden, not so much
Mygirl - You better think again. I can't wait til Biden tears a new @!$%# in Ryan during the debates. That will be hilarious! "LOL"
Obama/Biden 2012
Are you paying attention JS?!? He didn't annonuce it, it was leaked from "close sources." Nice one.
Ayn Rand, you lifted your skirt and waded in the gushing stream before Mammon.
Your sons are calling home.
Oh America, this is a testament of your soul...
The truth is...his budget plan would substantially eliminate Medicare and Medicaid. In protecting our senior citizens, obliterating such programs should be a lightening rod. Hopefully, Obama will now "coast" into the White House.
according to paul ryan wiki page his High School voted him "Biggest Brown Noser" Those kids knew back then what he was. LoL
The Presidential Race will be the hardest Presidential "Horse Race" in recent History.
Both Parties will now stop the negative campaign's. The attacks were getting too "personal" attacking each other (Obama/Romney) Negative Campaigns turn voters away.
It will now be a Presidential race of the Issues that are affecting the citizens of the United States since the latter Bush Era.. The Nominees were going way off tract re: Now they can discuss and promote how the US can improve itself, getting other Countries to respect us, and re introducing the word "work".
The Afghanistan War must be put out front and discussed by both Obama, and Romney, and what direction it is going, how it should end.
Paul Ryan is a plus for Romney; Romney looked weak without a VP Candidate to boost his image.
The VP is nothing more than a funeral attendee and occasional tiebreaker. Republicans need to take a long hard look at why a Presidential candidate needs "propping up" so bad, and get honest with themselves that the man of last resort is still not the man to turn this party- or country- around. Enough of the lib bashing and name calling...we need a President who can get things done, and even if Romney wins, we face more gridlock in the future. The system is broken and nobody in Washington wants to admit it- or change it
Praise God- What a gift to the Democrats
Hopefully this is in the bag for Obama, but you all know that republicans will vote republican even if its not in their best interests. We not only have to get Obama back into office but we must win both houses in order for Obama to get this country running again, or we will see the same obstruction we are seeing now. We need to vote out all teaparty, they are the problem, even the most conservatives will compromise, but not the teaparty, its their way or the highway, so remember that when you go to the polls. Also look at your own state, because they are just as dangerous their too.
Hey Flatiron in regards to your post I have a few words, Romney just lost, Paul Ryan just lost the presidency for the GOP.

I will join you on the roof tops YES YES YES, buh bye Mitt.
O'bama Biden 2012
When seniors get a whiff of what is contained in the Ryan plan and then discover that Romney's wannabe veep is that Ryan, they can kiss the 65+ vote goodbye! Let's tally the damage the GOP has inflicted on itself since the beginning of the year: they have alienated and/or offended women, African-Americans, Latinos, union workers, gays and lesbians, moderates, and now seniors. The Republican Party is self destructing before our very eyes!
President Obama in November by default! America is holding an election and the GOP isn't planning on showing up!
Really Elk ? Hmmmmm... I'm a recovering Mormon, so tell me... which of those statements is a lie ? NONE OF THEM. You know damned well they're all TRUE. And the biggest truth about the CULT of Mormonism is that they are NOT CHRISTIANS (not that it really matters because Christians are also whack jobs and Christianity is also a cult). Point is... we need a leader who doesn't have a religious agenda, who isn't a pathological liar and a tax evader/draft dodger/animal abuser/ job destroyer/ megalomaniac / narcissist.
Don't assume anything about the 65+ vote or anyone else's. Democrats need to be as motivated as Republicans and GET OUT AND VOTE!!! Apathy is our worst enemy.
Problem is fifth you still needed the independent vote, and Paul Ryan is absolutely a terrible choice to get that.
Oh well if he wants to throw away the money of his contributors it makes no difference to me. He needed someone like Pawlenty on his ticket, he hasn't been going center like he needed to to win.
Congrats Obama on being a 2 term president.
I am hoping for Romney this is a diversion from his true pick. If not, I'm not sure what he is thinking or the "plan" behind picking Ryan other than to cement his policy for giving tax breaks to the ultra rich (aka job creators "wink wink") while cutting medicare and Social Security to nothing(translation: take the money currently in those coffers and use it for those pet projects of old).
If Ryan truly is his pick, he just, in my opinion, gave away 3-5% of the independent vote to obama.
Imagine the "highly intellectual" Republican.... ummm. Romney/Ryan = (R) ...Vote Republican! NOW, they got it!
The fiscally conservative Ryan who tried to gut social security while INCREASING spending on the military budget. Real conservative of him. He is a @!$%#ing joke just like Willard.
Ha! Romney should announce Ryan as his VP pick onboard the USS Wisconsin along with all the GOP Govenors that have been trying to pass voter disenfranchisement laws. A nice big banner reading "Mission Accomplished" would fit really nicely, too.
Obama/Biden 2012
Since Mitt leaked this to the press, it's obvious he can't decide who he wants, so he's leaving it up to us. If enough people make a big stink about this choice over the next 24 hours, he'll choose someone else. He's testing the waters right now by our reaction, using the press as bait. Sorry Chuck Todd.
Hey Mitt: pick who you want, it can't drive your numbers anywhere, because you're still on the ticket. John McCain was right: Sarah Palin was the better candidate.
Thats not the same ship Bush used to annouce mission accomplished is it....No that was an aircraft carrier I think....Oh well. Mit has made mistake after mistake like promising his republican opponents he would release all his tax returns and not doing it leaving a thinking person to think the one he released was the best of the lot. Changing his mind on several things he was against but is now for and changinging his mind on some of the things he was for but is now against. If you can actually vote for this ticket you do not have your nor this countries best interest in mind. On the matter of the deficit. republicans were all for it when they were doing it left office with huge amounts of funds devoted to deficit spending and now blame Obama for it. They are decietful idiots. Time for the moderate republicans hiding out as independents to wrest control of your party back so we can work together in the countries time of need not elect as the second in command a tnut.
Now that's just Obamaloney.
I know enough about the mormon faith to say that you're either a liar about being a recovering mormon, or you didn't know much about the religion in the first place. Lies and untruths are as follows:
They believe the universe has always existed, and that planets or stars were created from preexisting matter.
This is only attainable by a small portion of individuals, not everyone.
Sensationalisitic. Most people who pray believe they're speaking directly to God.
They don't believe God changed his mind about black people. Timing regarding full inclusion in the church does not constitute changing one's mind, no matter how much you wish it were so.
Kolob is the name of a star, not a planet. Supposedly the one nearest where God resides.
Elk had it right...if you're going to criticize a religion, you better get your facts straight before you make yourself look like an ignoramus and lose all credibility in whatever your argument is.
And your statement about mormons not being Christians only goes to show that your ignorance is only eclipsed by your prejudice. Perhaps you should consider looking up the definition of "Christian" to learn what that actually entails. If you were capable of acknowledging that a difference of interpretation does not invalidate a person's belief in Jesus, you could finally leave behind the ranks of religious bigots.
More than ever, you need to make your vote COUNT. Paul Ryan is the WORST selection for Vice President. He will only destroy our safety nets for the poor and disabled.
Mitt Romney is just a robbot, and Paul Ryan will end up being the President, just like Dick Cheney was.
Do we want another 4 years of Bush/Cheney? NO NO NO
VOTE DEMOCRAT: Obama/Biden
Those of us with experience in the corporate environment well recognize this duo.
A self-perceived Batman and Robin that, in reality, is an uncaring greedy autocrat and his accountant henchman, the Romney/Ryan duo reminds us of the CEO/CFO combos that can take a businesses down in a heartbeat. With their ONLY focus being budgets and short-term profits, these are the combos that appears for 18 short months, reap huge profits by making drastic cuts, then take their money and run... leaving a weak and dysfunctional mess of a company in their wake.
People issues NEVER get in the way of these CEO/CFO combos... people are never even considered.
Long term issues are never addressed... if it takes away short term profits or otherwise gets in the way of the money, it doesn't exist.
This may be the poorest choice for our country's leadership that we have ever seen.
That Eddie Munster look-a-like Paul Ryan dude sure is a Koch-Sucker and so is Mitts....well the republicans have shown their hand and it's the same ol' thing....tax cuts for the job creators that don't create jobs, cut entitlements that aren't entitlements as Medicare and SSI have been taken out of mine and most Americans paychecks for the last 50 years that I've been working so it's just not an entitlement (the only entitlement in this country is in Congress where you get a paycheck, medical, and retirement paid for by taxpayers for doing nothing but spending all the go*danm money and then complain about not having enough money and wanting to take it away from you and I now). Where's the JOBS republicans?? What a bunch of worthless tools!! Way to go Romney, Ryan is a worse pick than Palin was and neither you or Ryan is fit or qualified to be POTUS.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
The House Republican budget ends Medicare and doubles the costs to seniors
Medicare as we know it would end for new beneficiaries in 2022 under the House Republican budget proposal. It would be replaced with a government voucher that would be paid directly to private insurance companies. This system would double costs to seniors. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, or CBO, concluded that “most elderly people would pay more for their health care than they would pay under the current Medicare system.”
Seniors would pay more for two reasons. First, the Ryan plan forces future beneficiaries out of the traditional Medicare plan into a more expensive private plan. In 2022 65-year-olds would be forced to pay twice as much for care than they would under Medicare: $12,500 compared to $6,150. The same holds true for 65-year-olds in 2030. They would be forced to pay $20,713 compared to $9,138 under Medicare (see graph).
With so many negative comments...its good to see that Romney has upset the democrats!
See ya Barry!
As if we don't have a gullible person in there now??????
Now the demonizing by Obama will begin.
I'm sure Obama will criticize Ryan for daring to address the Debt/Entitlement issues, when Obama has conveniently ignored them - Obama's Budget projections in his proposed Budget just call for more Debt - in fact, Obama shows the National Debt increasing from about $16 Trillion now to over $26 Trillion in less than 10 years.
Ryan will also be demonized as 'starving the poor', when the reality is that Ryan calls for a sensible average increase in Federal spending of about 3% per year.
It is so Palin-esque it makes me think that the Old Guard Republicans have realized that they were facing sure defeat with Romney as the candidate and knowing there was no way they had time to put up anyone else this close to the convention, instead decided to turn their attention to 2016 and are field testing Ryan and his extremism for that election.
Doing a cut and run on the 2012 Presidency also allows them to focus on the congressional elections and try to lock up the House and Senate with Republican majorities to block any progress by Obama for the next 4 years using the momentum of the present Tea party hysterics. They then can try to regain more central control and discipline by cutting the more radical elements loose before the 2016 election.
I just can't see the Republican party thinking it can win at all with Ryan. He's their death knell.
Ryan worships at the feet of Ayn Rand a fascist atheist. Somehow the republikans seem to have abandoned Christianity in favor of cults and atheism. It's going to be interesting to see the religious right deal with this.
Romney/Ryan 2012 R&R Remove & Replace
Saw a great Hispanic Bumper Sticker while driving through Austin, Texas Thursday "OBAMANOS"
lol.... I get a kick out of all you people bashing each others party. You don't get it at all. WHO IS PRESIDENT DOESN'T MATTER. He/she don't make laws. Yes they have the power of veto but that can be overturned . The president is not who holds the power in this country. Pee Wee could be our Pesident and you wouldn't know the difference. If you really want to see things head in the right direction focus more attention on the people who really do control our government. Otherwise we will never EVER get out of the mess we are in.
I have been paying very close attention to the elections and political arena since Obama got elected and I have to admit that it has been aggravating at times. To me it seems the GOP really don't know how to fix our country so they have come up with an agenda which is totally unacceptable to the American people. Those who are paying close attention to what the GOP is saying and doing think the GOP is putting up Mitt and Ryan knowing they will never get elected because as I've said early, they have know idea how to solve our problems so they spew extreme agenda's knowing that the majority will vote against them but they will have those republican supporters who don't care who their candidates are. I try to understand why working class republicans, no matter how narrow minded they are, would vote for Mitt and Ryan because if they are paying attention they would know that everything Mitt, Ryan and the GOP stand for is directed towards further increasing benefits for the wealthy while cutting benefits for those Americans who need it to put food on the table. I wish Americans would stop being so stubborn on voting for their party candidates no matter what and research if what candidates are saying are factual or lies. I for one will vote for the candidate who is promoting what is best for America and the American people. Remember America, those at the top have enjoyed an income increase of over 200% ( which relates to millions ) while the average worker has flat lined and in some cases reduced. Get the facts America because if you elect Mitt/Ryan we may not be able to recover because the facts show the Ryan plan will further put us into worse economic collapse of which our country has ever seen. Vote using facts and not words or lies.
What a great pick for Willard "Mitt" Robme. Now the republicans will have a matching pair of vultures on the presidential ticket. And by the way, Rombot the robot didn't pick Ryan to be on the ticket, those two koch sluts did. They call all the shots for the gop lap dogs....end of story.
You Republicans posting that the economy is still Obama's fault need to wake up. EVery single economist out there says that the destruction caused by the Bush administration would take minimum 10 years to make any kind of real turn around. The fact is that Obama is making an effort yet trying to do it with the smallest amount of furthur damage to the middle class while the Republicans want to keep sticking the knife in our backs.
So, if Mormons believe that Jesus visited America, would he not be an illegal alien (since he is from the Middle East) and would todays Republicans not deport him?
I love the fact that Romney took Ryan, I guess our masters have deemed that Obama will have the next 4 years, because no one in their right mind is going to vote for these 2 ass clowns, unless of course you're a millionaire. Why do Republicans claim to be so religious, then do the complete opposite of what Jesus would do? I don't recall reading the bible about Jesus handing out vouchers to heal the sick, nor do I recall Jesus telling the hungry to get a job, because they're too lazy to work. Also, didn't Jesus say give to Caesar what is Caesars? (That part is for you Mr. Tax Dodger, Romney) And did Jesus not attack the money people (Bankers or rich people) and say it would be near impossible for your type to ever get into heaven, if there were such a place? But not too worry Republicans, I smell what you're stepping in (B/S)!
Well the pundits said Romney needed to pick someone to energize the party faithful. He did. But the energized party is the Democrats. The lets p!ss off everyone tour continues. Women--check, gays---check, Hispanics---check,blacks---check,Medicare recipients---check, labor---check, American Jews---check, Israelis---check, Britons---check,the jobless---check,"real Christians"---check, the anti Washington insider crowd---check, foreign policy wonks---check, those who know about the federal budget--- check, people that actually pay taxes---check,etc etc etc. Romney said it himself, "I don't know anybody that doesn't like Paul Ryan". AND THAT IS THE PROBLEM. The possibility of government of the billionaire, for the billionaire and by the billionaire MUST parish from the face of the earth. Ryan's tax plan would balance the budget in 28 years. How's that gonna play with the ultra TEA Partiers? From last nights news after the choice of Ryan leaked not well at all.
Gotta love these comments belittling Gov Romney and Paul Ryan while prasing Obama. It's not whether the comments are of quality in addressing the issue but whether they favor Obama. Showing favor for Obama in your comments could get you 200+likes regardless of what your comment reflects.
Not sure if "winner" is the term I'd use...
I know. Being sarcastic! :)
Vultures of a feather flock...
Mitt the Vulture and Paul Ryan with his plan to make Medicare a vulture (voucher) program.
Yes picking someone who is fiscally responsible would excite you nimrods. You think everyone thinks like you so you can't imagine how anyone would vote for an economic team. I got news for you. California is in the toilet and Wisconsin stood up against the unions and the nation cheered. No more kicking the can down the road because the can is only going at the best 10 years down the road. You welfare babies are over and a new fiscally responsible order is coming by default, just like in California. So suck up all the welfare now while you can still get it because hard work is in the future.
Hey, say what you want I liked him in the National Treasure movies.
So what is Obama's plan for getting us out of this economy? It better not be like the old plan that he has now in effect, because we all know how that's going.
And don't say it is the Republicans' fault because we all know that each President has to deal with whatever Congress he gets.
Vulture/Voucher 2012
patrick demarco:
The nimrods just don't get it. I live in California and I still have a little money. Guess what? We are leaving this year as California has become a welfare state, sanctuary state for illegals and everything Socialist you can think of. And the facts are the facts. More people are now leaving California than are coming in. The money is leaving and the crap is coming in.
So like other Californians with some money left, we are out of here. California will eventually collapse as even the progressive-libs of Hollywood will get sick and tired of having the lazy and useless dole-suckers as the ball and chains that they are!
They don't see that the states doing well are the state with Republican Governors. A lot of Democrat states are tanking - and some of them are the states with the largest and most diverse economies - so clearly, the problem is their welfare driven agenda's.
Hopeful - I see that you have no idea what is going on in the UK, or Europe. I suggest you at least travel there for a year, or two, but better to live and work there at least that long. The people I work with over there have a very different take on their life and their countries than you are advertising here.
elk_767:
That's because they are used to crap! I don't need to travel to sub-standard countries to know what it is like. I've known people from Europe, and when they come here, they are amazed that they don't have to live in 350 square foot, 200 year old houses. They don't have to wait 6 months for a medical check-up. They don't have to die from breast cancer because the government plan won't pay for some of the more expensive drugs - mainly if you are over a certain age. They can go to the grocery store and buy whatever they want - with unbelievable varieties. They don't have to drive little box commie cars because gas is $8.00 a gallon.
So please, don't give me the bullsh** line that Europe is great. It's nothing compared to the quality of life and opportunities we have here. It might be nice for a vacation, but that's about it!
What happend to the app that would tell instantly who Romney's VP Pick will be? He's not even elected and has already lied about something. I mean that was a major publicity campaign on his part and he couldn't get that right.
new fiscally responsible order is coming by default,
Patrick -
Do you mean the same fiscally responsible types that ran the economy of this country into the ground from 2000-2006? Or are you talking about a different type?
You need to take your head out of your ass and look at the facts.
Obama/Biden 2012 (In a landslide)
Paul Ryan...one of the 14 repubs who met the night Obama took office, to pledge against the economy, pledged to vote against every bill that would help Obama look good. Pledged to make Obama a one term president by pledging to vote against anything that would help the economy. Said they had to act like the Taliban, the insurgents . VOTING AGAINST AMERICA.......PAUL RYAN!
Tom Hartman mentioned on his radio program that Ryan had campaign contribution (2) from Swiss bank account. looks like Paul Romney to me!
All catholics will be voting against him because the catholic church denounced the Paul Ryan plan right to his face.
Romney Ryan for a worse tomorrow today!
robert in Oregon
yea the New Jersey saved our asses in Beirut 1982.
We did not have bunker busters or anything at the time to destroy the heavy bunker gun emplacements in the mountains overlooking Beirut.
When the New Jersey came online and fired those 1700 pounders, it destroyed three of the gun enplacements and heavily damaged the fourth and the Evacuation of civilians from Beirut via the airport continued.
@Hopeful American - How Ugly American, pathetic can you get! Your ignorance of life in "sub-standard countries" (!?!?!) is truly breathtaking. Time to tune out Rush, & stop listening to Faux, dearie.
Of course, you would have NO idea that 45K people per year DIE due to lack of medical care, as they lack health insurance. The US is DEAD last among developed nations in this regard.
Do you know how many people this happens to in the rest of the developed 1st world countries? ZERO, that's right, NONE. So much for "sub-standard," eh!
If Romney picks Ryan as his VP, the "choice" of who to vote for on:
November 6, 2012 is even more extremely clear...
A Straight Democratic Ticket and
Obama/Biden 2012!

From Our Store: Moral Issues (eBook)
Bishop Stephen Blaire, chairman of the Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), said that proposed budget cuts recently passed by the House of Representatives “failed to meet [the] moral criteria” set forth by the USCCB.
In four letters addressed to leaders of congressional committees, Bishop Blaire weighed in on several cuts to specific programs:
Joined by Bishop Richard Pates, chairman of the USCCB’s International Committee on Justice and Peace, Bishop Blaire also emphasized the importance of six domestic programs (WIC, TEFAP, SNAP, CSFP, CSP, and VAPG) and four international programs (PL-480 Title II, Safe Box, Local and Regional Purchase, and 202e Funds).
Patrick and Hopeful -
Against my better judgment, I'm going to ask this question to both of you. What led us to this so called "Welfare" state in the first place? In your opinions, when did this begin? I can tell you those that lost their jobs remember when it started very well. Those who would rather have a job than to be getting welfare and/or unemployment I'm sure remember it like it was yesterday.
What you both failed to remember is that there was a plan set in motion by the president and Boehner(the only republican that was willing to go back and talk to the president after the "staged" republican walk out from the WH when trying to get a deal on the debt ceiling) that would have done exactly what Obama wanted (half the deficit in 5 years) while giving Boehner EVERYTHING he wanted on the republican side. The problem, the Tea party republicans wouldn't go along with it. The result, well we all know how that ended.
Here's the part that gets me, you are willing to vote for someone in your opinion, will balance the budget and bring fiscal order back by doing away with medicare and social security, giving tax cuts to the top 1%(that they claim are the job creators BUT they themselves would benefit AND they are NOT job creators) while easing regulations that will create jobs OVERSEAS (yes that means if you have a job it may be heading back overseas putting you out of work) all the while placing the tax burden on the middle class AND attempting to take away my daughter's insurance(who is a full time student currently on my insurance thanks to the AHCA, aka Obamacare).
If you can live with this, then GOD help us all. These by the way AREN'T talking points, these are the faucets of Ryan's budget plan.
Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney can't wait to get rid of the Health Plan that President Obama has put in place. Of course, they want to continue business as usual, and give the Insurance companies more of the same BS that we have had for years.
We have make progress in health care. PLEASE don't let the GOP taking us back to the dark ages, where the money is only available for WARS. Social Security and Medicaid are at risk.
The GOP is only looking to line their OWN POCKETS. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are the most arrogant, self-serving members of the GOP.
ROMNEY/RYAN:
A SH$$T SANDWICH FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS
Now the demonizing by Obama will begin.
I'm sure Obama will criticize Ryan for daring to address the Debt/Entitlement issues, when Obama has conveniently ignored them - Obama's Budget projections in his proposed Budget just call for more Debt - in fact, Obama shows the National Debt increasing from about $16 Trillion now to over $26 Trillion in less than 10 years.
Ryan will also be demonized as 'starving the poor', when the reality is that Ryan calls for a sensible average increase in Federal spending of about 3% per year.
Whooopeee ! This man is such a TURD, that he will pull Romney into the cesspool which he inhabits !
Oh dear God: Christmas comes early for the Democrats!
Hail Mary pass from Romney: the far right doesn't like him and neither does anyone else.
Romney just cost himself the votes from seniors, students, women, true social justice religious, in short, everyone but the Koch brothers, Karl Rove and the "teabaggers."
Good Mitty, you never fail to delight.
Ryan comes from several generations of wealth. His political platforms demonstrate that he cannot empathize with the economic struggles that the majority of Americans face. Ryan has required his interns to read Ayn Rand's book, Atlas Shrugged. When this fact was exposed, Ryan quickly claimed that he was not fond of Ayn Rand. A politician that forces his workers to subscribe to the greedy dogma that caused the financial collapse of America, does not belong in the White House.
GOP = No Health Care for the Rest of Us!
Gee!...Sounds like a match made in HELL!
Mitt Rob-me and Paul Ream-me.............I can't imagine having this country's leadership under Ream-me if something should happen to Rob-me. Now that should scare the Hell out of just about anyone except, perhaps, a Tea Bagger......
Great Post 25 Walker!
Ryan is not worthy of picking up dog trash !!!!!!!!!!!
Ryan's gonna SCHOOL bumblin' Joe at the debates... hahahaha this is gonna be AWESOME!
It's the economy stupid... keep deflecting and talkin' trash team Obama, the electorate is sick of it.
Where's Waldo: Love your post!
Gotta admit that this is a great choice! On the left you have those who have spent the last 4 years transforming our country to resemble Hades. On the right you have people who understand economics and realize you aren't representing the people by putting them so far in debt that they become slaves. Hey, there is great news for libs though. After Romney/Paul are elected, you can still move to one of the utopias that you desire. They exist throughout the world. You can choose Russia, China, Cuba (with it's great medical care system that you love), Venezuela, Greece, France, Uganda, etc.... the list goes on and on. Why wait for the US to join their ranks? Let those who love what made America great stay here and restore her to her greatness!
Roy,
Not by Obama, but by the Wisconsinites who are ashamed of this nut case right winger that only further moves us to the extreme right with his budget plans to cut Medicare and Medicaid. Two multi-millionaires totally out of touch with america and Americans!
This man can talk, but he can't make sense and he is cold as ice!
God save us from these two republican millionaries or maybe
billionaires if the off shore accounts truth be known!
witchrunner,
I can she how and why you selected your name. You just run with it without a bit of thought!
You can choose Russia, China, Cuba (with it's great medical care system that you love), Venezuela, Greece, France, Uganda, etc.... the list goes on and on
The "Conservatives" are the ones that need to start packing and move to any of those countries. All of you despise "big" government, but do not mind giving your money to wars. You deserve to live in a country where there is VERY LITTLE help from the government, and you are at the mercy of your guns.
Paradise for all of you, NRA fans, and Big government enemies. As is any of the millionaires would have been able to make all that money in any of those countries.
Only the sheep beleive that BS of "small government"is better, and "reduce education and eliminate Medicare"
Africa is the place for all of YOU
New Romney-Ryan campaign slogan " Seniors - let them eat cake". If you do not get it read French Revolution History.
Sietasis, I get it and I agree with you in principle; however, Marie Antoinette never said, "Let them eat cake". You will not find that in any history book on the French Revolution.
That said, these two jokers could care less about anything except lining their own pockets. The rest of the country can go to hell in a hand basket as long as they get theirs.
What's up with Romney's Tax Returns !!!!!!!!!!!!!
VP pick looks like another Bozo !!!!!!!
Thanks Mitt the Democrats are very happy with your choice.
I guess this is why Ryan has decided to go on vacation then he can avoid answering questions too.
Now we have some new meat to throw under the bus.
I guess the hound dogs are a looking already
Frick and frack for President
Lets see Ryan's taxes and maybe Mittens will get a clue. Time for some serious VP vetting. You might want to consider diapers Paul.
ya, if you think being too fat to work should be a reason to collect SSI, vote Obama. simple folks. we need healthcare, but its screwed, royaly. Nobama the Clown plan (HCR) makes it all the worse.
SO what some of you are saying is, rather than get a check, to pay for insurance, by a provider of your choice, and to PAY them yourself is bad? you need some one to hold your hand to cross the street as well??
in 15 yrs when i retire, (and you better believe i will) i would rather get a check to see who i want to, than take what i can get as i saw my grandparents do, and as my other now does, by having to work work for it after 65, while others get the free cow, doing nothing since birth to contribute. WE ARE TALKING the lazy, not the actual handicapped, or disabled, but people ABLE to work and refuse.
yes i know a couple people who is collecting because they are too fat to work. they have kankles bigger than my bicep, and it isnt because of hormones, or genes, its becase they choose to be too fat to work. that is just 1 exsample.
What is it with people who think those that believe we all, as a society, have an obligation to each other are socialists? Bull$h!t. I'm no socialist, but I do think we have a moral obligation to ensure all members of our society have a minimum amount of money and support to live and function. Is infrastructure socialist? Is public education? No. But you don't have a problem with at that, do you?
Romney's economic track record in MA was not that good at all - go look it up. And when Ryan's father died when he was 16, he received SS payment as a surviving child. And since his family was comfortable, they didn't even need the $. But other people do in similar circumstances, yet Ryan wants to deny others the same support he received. And wait til he gets started on veterans' benefits and education.
Romney and Ryan are a perfect match - "I've got mine, $crew you" and a "keep 'em dumb and poor" approach to government. Ryan's admiration of Ayn Rand, his fight for "individualism versus collectivism" (his own words from a 2005 speech) is alarming to me. It ignores that we do live in a society; we are, like it or not, a collection of people trying to live in the same space. That's what a society is.
I'm not a socialist, I've worked hard for what I have, and didn't apply for unemployment payments when I was laid off since I could take care of myself. But others aren't that lucky, haven't had the opportunities I've had. They need, not a welfare state, but some support. Under Romney and Ryan, that support won't be there. And if Romney's MA economic record is any indicator, we all are going to be no better off in the long run.
CONGRATULATIONS in advance to Paul Ryan, for losing alongside Mitt Romney in 2012!
Where's Waldo, thank you.
PINK SLIP
Dear Employee,
I am glad to inform you, that thanks to you vote for me, The Corporations inf the United States ill be moving oversees so that they can improve their bottom line. With this new change and the new laws ending social programs that you helped to come about by electing me, you are no unemployed and will have nothing to fall back on. sorry for this inconvenience but the 1% needs to make money
Yours very truly
I can already see the fear in the hearts (if they have any) of the liberal left! They know that the Republicans need someone to vocalize what the true Conservative wing of the party will do! This will not be Obama-lite! What will the Republicans do about Medicare, they will give vouchers so that seniors can shop for the best deal (which the liberals don't think they are smart enough to do!) and make their own choices and not depend on the almighty "Guvment" to dictate to them.
Paul Ryan symbolizes the desires of the true majority of this country! He will not cave into the stupid liberal ideal of "compromise", which means Republicans compromise and the Democrats "divide and conquer"! It will take two Republican terms followed by another two terms with President Ryan to undo the disaster of socialist policies implimented by our Dear Leader and his socialist/communist cronies, but, we can all do it together!
Mitt the Twit on tv now what a tool. Its like watching the Howdy Doody show I guess he couldn't afford a tie .
Look out middle class. Hypocrite Paul Ryan who says we need to reign in the spending has voted for every single thing that has increased our deficit. Just take a look at his voting record. This man is as big a liar as Mutt Head.
I promise you he will want to cut taxes even more for the wealthy and the middle class taxes will go up to finance the whole thing. He and Mutt Head also want to increase defense spending. Same old GW Bush B.S. that put us in this mess in the first place.
But what he wants most of all, is to gut Medicare and social security and hand Medicare and our health care over to his health insurance friends who will proceed to be the real death panels they tried to pin on Obama. If they succeed, it's all over for middle class Americans. If you get seriously ill, too bad says Paul Ryan. Go lie down and die.
Hopeful:
you are wrong on so many accounts, I have many friends in the UK, among which is an older woman who had breast cancer that spread to her bones. Without intensive treatment she had 3 weeks to live. That was 4 years ago and she is planning to come back and see her friends here in Sept. True Europeans don't require McMansions to live in and don't require 2 Humvees in every garage and pay more for gas but that is large part is because the tax code here supported the purchase of giant xurban vehicles for wealthy people and subsidize the oil and gas industry with lucrative tax benefits, so the real price of gas in this country is already way more than we pay at the pump. Europeans also live in 200 year old or more homes because they don't see the need to knock down everything that is 30 or more years old and replace it with a shopping center on every corner Europeans know what is like to have had World Wars on their own soil and for that reason alone have a very different view of the world than Americans
@Dan M ######
You are correct, there is no fear in my heart! By picking Ryan as his VP, Romney has assured a win for Dems in November.
If anyone could make a worse pick than McCain did...............You guessed it! Mitt Romney!
Don't give the Keys back to the Losers that got us into this mess, Ryan will cast a spell on the Clown !!!!!!!!!!
Romney & Ryan are not Worthy of being a dog catcher !!!!!!!!!
No more KY jelly for the middleclass if they come to being..
additionally picking Ryan is a clear signal that the GOP has once again committed itself to Bush's "ownership society" plan which is another euphemism for let the banks, wall street and the insurance companies control all retirement plans for working Americans and is now being planned for the military even though most of them don't know it, and we all know how that worked out for the average guy's 401K after 2007. And yet 40-50% of the voters in this country still believe the big lie that it was Obama who bailed out the too big to fail banks and insurance companies after the real estate crash with 700 billion dollars which as it turned out is more like 1.9 trillion and the banks continue to turn a deaf ear to loan modification to even those who continue to make their payments and got away with foreclosures using phoney docs.
For those already celebrating another four years of Obama remember this:
If you'll recall, Truman held a paper up the next day stating "Dewey defeats Truman".
Remember, history has a way of repeating itself. I wouldn't be so smug celebrating the Ryan nomination.
With Romney and Ryan it looks like an Obama shoe in for another 4 more glorious years of more epic failure and economic disaster.
Good luck America, hey by the way, Costa Rica is a paradise, so please keep your dictator, tele-promter, hip-hop, halfrican-american president there in the United States.
Brother, small minded thinking at its finest.. What about those that make minimum wage? Do you really believe that they will use those vouchers for retirement. They do not have enough money to buy health insurance now and voucher money will help them put food on the table. Medicare is not paid for by the government, though they have borrowed our money from the time of Johnson and have not repaid any of itl. Medicare is paid ofr through extra payroll tax and by employers. Government just administers it an does a good job at it. If the government hadn't borrowed any of it or if they repaid the money, medicare would not be in the trouble it is in today.
Good Morning All,
WOW, what a wonderful way to wake up. A new day dawning, the sun rising anew, the promise of light and warmth once again is on the horizon. >:o):

If you live in a state that is trying to suppress and subvert your vote, make sure you jump their hoops and have the ID they require. Or, a gun registration. (Sheeesh)
Vote all toughs jokers that will sell YOUR country to the rich OUT!!!
I kinda think the Corporate States of Amerika is NOT the country you want back.
Do not allow you voice and Vote be silenced........ Go VOTE!!!
OK, putting soap box away for now,
Much Love, Light and Peace.
Da Pup
>:o): Obama / Biden 2012
Yes, clwyd
GOD SAVE US!!!
Hmmm, is the announcement site a good indication of his selection (Ryan) or the state in which it is being done (McDonnell, who supposedly isn't in the running any more)? I guess some of the second guessing about his drop in the polls may have something to do with this early announcement? All last week, the speculation was that he would wait until the Friday before the beginning of the convention, hehe.
Specific announcement site is actually in front of the USS Wisconsin, Ryan's home state. I'm pretty sure it will be Ryan.
Yes, very desperate move to do it this early, this will take away from the convention bounce he'll get, but he has to change the conversation.
Which won't happen.
Bob (numbers)
I pretty much agree with you. But this pick will not change the conversation of where are your tax returns.
Seniors in Florida will not be affected, but their children and grandchildren will. Seniors care more about their grand kids than Romney or Paul Ryan. Plus, Romney will not get a bounce out of OHIO for not picking Rob Portman.
Ron,
And there will be an open congressional seat in WI.
Ryan is the darling of the tea party. I hear he makes every staff person read Ann Rand novels. His budget plan is now Romney's plan.
Obama will get another bump in next week poll results.
Bob,
I agree. Romney needs to change the conversation to Obamas atrocious record. The sooner he gets to the focus on Obamas abysmal 3.5 years (as opposed to red herring tax return crap) the better.
Obama by every measure has been an failed president.
Northstar - It's Ayn Rand.
Victorkingdom, how are Romney's tax records a red herring? He should have had these prepared and ready to hand off at a moments notice..especially since he ran for the nomination in 2008. Some of the excuses he has used to defend himself are the same excuses he once said were used by liars and cheats.
Given Mr. Romneys penchant for lying and being extremely vague on everything, plus some very dubious business practices he is known to have employed ( Giving himself and his company million dollar bonuses from companies they took over then decllaring bankcrupsty the next year for these companies)...I think his tax records are very relevant.
A lot more relevant than repeatedly asking for President Obama's University records or his birth certificate after providing acceptable proof again, and again.
Funny how republicans always run on being fiscally conservative yet never cut spending. They criticize Obama for his stimulus plan of 780 billion which went mostly to states devastated after the Bush train wreck to save/create jobs but never mention the over 1.5 trillion Bush spent on stimulus spent going mostly to financial institutions.
They talk about the deficit yet nothing in Romneys plan would cut it. He proposes cutting the tax on the rich and paying for it by eliminating the employer health exemption but that's a wash, simply a transfer of wealth from the middle class to the rich. He would cut spending by 120 billion but raise military spending 260 billion. Why would anyone knowing what Bush did as president think Romney would be any different?
Critics of President Obama never tire of blaming him for today's high deficits. But if blame belongs with one president, it belongs with Obama's predecessor, George W. Bush. The chart above, which the New York Times created based upon figures from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, illustrates this point very clearly. But it's worth reviewing the history here, because while it's familiar to most of us who follow politics it doesn't seem to get a lot of attention in the political debate.
By the end of the 1990s, the federal budget was in surplus for the first time in decades. Partly that was a product of unusually strong economic growth, during the internet boom, which had swelled tax revenues. But partly that was a product of responsible budgeting, presided over by the most recent two presidents, George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton. In order to reduce deficits, lawmakers and those two presidents had agreed both to raise taxes and to reduce spending.
In the 2000 campaign, Clinton's would-be successor, Al Gore, campaigned on a promise to, in effect, put those surpluses aside for a rainy day. Bush would have none of it. The government had too much money, he said; the responsible thing was to give it all back to the taxpayers. In office, he did just that, presiding over massive tax cuts that gave, by far, the largest benefits to the very wealthy. Bush promised that the tax cuts would act like a "fiscal straightjacket," preventing government from growing. But then he, and his allies, launched two major wars and enacted a drug benefit for Medicare, all without paying for them.
Today's fiscal gap is largely a product of those decisions, as the graph above shows. It has very little to do with anything Obama did while in office. In fact, the contrast between the two administrations could not be more striking. Obama's primary undertaking has been comprehensive health care reform. But he insisted that it pay for itself, through a combination of spending cuts and tax increases.
Of course, tomorrow's deficit problem is a bit different from today's. Looking decades into the future, it's the rising cost of health care that seem likely to wreck federal finances. But health care reform addresses that too, by putting in places the policies and institutions necessary to curb spending on medical care.
Larry
It was George w Bush being reckless that sparked the tea party revolution and since then many establishment Republicans have been voted out and replaced by Scott Walker,Ryan,Haley, Christie, portman, and so on.
With what happenned in the Wisconson recall shows that they stick to thier guns and I hope that goes for getting our country back to how it was established.
A capital free market Republic which it is not.
This country is mainly a corporate capitalism society in which the government protects the interest and dominance of established corporations thus destroying competition and the free market system.
Yes that includes the renewable energy industry, the oil and gas industry, the tobacco industry, banking industry, etc.
The Republicans and Democrats have failed to realize that corporate capitalism is a MARXIST CONCEPT
The "Golden Boy"of the GOP is nothing but a vampire ready to suck the blood of the middle class. Paul Ryan can't wait to dismantle the health care reform of President Obama, and wants to balance the budget not by cutting subsidies to rich oil, but by cutting MEDICARE, and turning that into a BUSINESS.
HE AND MITT ROMNEY DO NOT GET THE FACT THAT THE HEALTH OF THE NATION SHOULD NOT BE A BUSINESS.
Ryan is the darling of the tea party but as Romney had every single tea party vote sewed up his pick probably wasn't a good one. His radical idea's which will devastate seniors and the middle class if eneacted purely to further enrich the 1% ers who already pay a lower average tax rate than the middle class will merely frighten millions. Can't see how this benefited Romney. Obama picked Biden due to his foreign policy reputation where Obama was considered weak. I see no upside with Ryan. Picking Ryan is simply playing to the band
Anyone that thinks Romney will soon begin his real attacks against Obamas record as president is delusional. So far the best he's been able to do is to take comments out of context in order to make him look bad. Obamas record as president is public record and whether you like him or not there isn't any thing they can hit him with that they haven't alreay tried. Romneys the one who has to defend his proposals he says won't devastate the elderly, poor and middle class and claiming he'll give specifics after the election won't cut it.
Larry, I think you are absolutely correct. Regardless of Romney's choice for a running mate the TEA Party members were not going to go out and vote for Obama. By choosing this radical fiscal fringe player Romney will do two things - galvanize the democratic party, upping democratic voter turn out and alienate the moderate republicans and independents. I, having recently changed affiliations from republican to independent, was still strongly leaning toward Romney, but I will not vote for a ticket that includes Ryan. And I, at nearly 57, am actually "safe" from his proposed changes to medicare/medicaid. The point though is that his budget plan seeks to solve our fiscal problems totally on the backs of the middle and lower classes while handing out presents to the wealthy. I do think the rich "pay their fair share" but in our dire straights I still think they should be asked to sacrifice more than the less affluent.
The Republican ticket is complete. Romney and Ryan are dedicated to the complete destruction of the middle class and they're not going to worry about the poor. Ryan's budget showed that Corporate 'persons' are his priority, in sync with Romney. If elected, Romney and Ryan will transform America into a third world nation. The poor will be desparate, driven to crime to survive. Cuts will reduce the number of police. Anarchy will reign except in the rich enclaves who will have their own private police/paramilitary forces. depressing prospect for most.
Obama is the safer bet for America's prosperity.
This is the Worst pick for Romney, Ryan as VP will be another nail in Willard's Coffin !!!!!!!!!!!!!
joemike404 - I couldn't agree more.
This is a good choice.
Ryan strengthens Mitt in many key states in the midwest. Ryan is unflappable. Ryan is acceptable to the more conservatives. Ryan puts Wisconsin and Michigan in play. This pick should also increase the Romney strength in Ohio (they like Ryan), Florida, Pennsylvania. The only candidates that may have helped more in the swing states would have been Santorum, but Santorum does not fit Romney's demeanor and brings a lightening rod of backlash. Rubio would be a great choice, and would have helped in the second most number of states, but although he had better experience than Obama, he was recently termed "not ready yet".
Looking at the ticket Mitt shows he cares in that he did work with democrats on the Massachusetts care and Ryan balances that with an eye on fiscal responsibility.
As an Conservative Independent who is registered Republican, the balance of this ticket is important. What you have is a Republican who leans moderate with a running mate who is conservative.
Good choice!
Romney-Ryan 2012.
What you have is a candidate that leans the way the wind blows with a running mate that will swing him to the extreme right... and that can "unflappably" do his bidding to Congress ("flappable" being code for "uncompromising"). As an Independent conservative that supported the likes of Reagan, these two scare the sh!t out of me.
To: Mitt Romney
From: Democratic National Committee
The entire Democratic National Committee thanks you for choosing Representative Paul Ryan as your Vice presidential candidate. This assures a victory in Florida for President Obama resulting in more than the 270 electoral college voted needed for his reelection as President. We can now spend more of our resources in Ohio, Colorado, Virginia, North Catalonia and Nevada to insure an even larger victory.
Rubio is pissed off and said he's going back to Cuba !!!!
John, have to disagree, or at least ask for clarification, on some of your points:
1. I don't think it was Bushes recklessness. I think the root cause was that overall, Bush was in way over his head, was an empty suit, controlled by hard-right folks like Cheney and Rumsfeld and managed by soulless Carl Rove, these guys pushed the agendas of corporate capitalism and militarism. I think that Bush at heart was kind of a nice guy, the one you would have a good time fishing with, as evidenced by his trying to do the right thing (too late) with stimulus efforts, etc. at the end of his presidency.
2. Not a disagreement, but a follow-on: I think these dynamics led to the rise of the Tea Party. They are not based on the corporate capitalist state, military-industrial complex, energy industry interests. They are more simplistic, are aligned with the dogma and far-right values, generally lower and middle class blue collar. Low taxes is the up-front signature issue with them, but traditional conservative sociocultural values too. Beliefs from the gut, Palin the perfect representative of that group. The McCain/Palin ticket was a perfect example of the results... conflict between the principled approach of traditional Republican conservatives and gut-level blue collar.
With policy-making in Congress, the reason we can't get anything done is this. Traditional conservative congresses would have been more pragmatic, as their politicians were more intelligent and realistic. They would have been more willing to compromise on issues, as their core constituency was a delicately forged balance between representing their sponsors (corporations) who are most interested in a smooth, institutionalized business environment and couldn't really care less about the social issues except where they impact business and social issues, where traditional blue collar conservatives were essentially after comfortable, certain values--Christianity, the famil unit with 2.5 kids, the white-picket fence, etc.
I think this is the heart of the conflict evident within the Republican Party right now that makes it impossible for them to have a consistent approach at the national level other than being obstructionist (while they try to find their identity). They can win local elections because they can contain the depate to one or two values oriented themes, but when they have to throw it all into one package, there is just too much incompatibility.
I also think it is why you see all the hate against Obama with completely irrational explanation and it explains the selection of Romney. Obama has obiously black heritage, is in support of change that conflicts with the cultural gut-level comfort zone of less educated conservatives. It looks like racism and kind of is, but is not really because he is black so much as it he is identifiably different so he is an easy target for the frustrations of those who are facing a schizoid identity crisis where somehow 1+1 does not equal 2--- Obama is the reason they must confront their own dilemmas, they hate him because he is a symbol that forces their identity crisis.
As for the selection of Romney, he seemed the best way they could possibly reconcile everything. His getting corporate big dollar support, he is the epitome of corporate values and interests. Socially, Mormons on most social issues are very conservative. His track record of flip-flopping on issues meant that he could be easily molded to pretty much any required set of beliefs to present to the country. Unfortunately, it isn't working out so well for him. The Tea Party side wants more than lip service to its fears. Being in his shoes right now is probably very uncomfortable, there is now way that one person could reconcile all of this.
3. Depending on what you mean, I don't agree that capitalism is a Marxist concept. If you are saying that Marx believed it was inevitable, I do agree. If you are saying it is a necessity as part of a long term infrastructure or that he created the concept, I strongly disagree. Marx thought that it Capitalism was necessary for getting production infrastructure in place, it was happening with or without Marxs observations. He also thought workers would eventually have to overthrow it because of it's inhumanity and centralization of wealth.
If its pissing off the Libs, then you know you have made the right choice! Congratulations on earning my vote back Romney!
Right Kornfed! The libs in this cite seem to be screaming in unison! They know that this is a choice which will help kick Barrack Hussein Obama to the proverbial curb! Maybe we could actually see a government for the people and by the people instead of for the politician and by the environmental special interests (translation: liberal wackos!)!
Kornfed, I don't see where it is "pissing off the Libs". There is a difference between being intested in looking at implications and being PO'd. Actually if you look at Dem operative comments so far, they are ecstatic, as it ties the candidacy down to a doctrine that should help in lots of congressional districts.
It will probably energize your very nervous base, but if you want to win the election, you need more than the base and this is now a very solid base ticket with little room for the traditional move to the center after nomination. The Dems have their base too.
What is this fascination with making "Liberals" upset? It smacks of 2nd grade playground tactics and the general atmosphere of bullying in America. Perhaps a more productive path in life would consist of working to make oneself happy, rather than becoming happy off of the sadness of other humans. Ah, but therein lies the crux of our dear Reality TV. It is all starting to make sense now...
Dan, Please do not tell me that you are so delusional as to believe that a Romney/Ryan ticket is the least bit interested in government of/by/for the People. We would just be changing liberal progressive wackos for social conservative wackos. Romney chose Ryan to satisfy the radical fringe social conservative wing of the republican party because they do not think that Romney is conservative enough. That wing of the party believes absolutely in individual liberty as long as you believe exactly what they believe - no abortion, no same-sex marriage, no welfare, throw every undocumented immigrant out of the country (even if they came as an infant and have served gallantly in our military). If Romney or Ryan try to deviate one step from this hate-filled, xenophobic, homophobic, pseudo-christian philosophy they will be stomped on until the party brings them back into compliance. Somehow that doesn't seem like a better option.
Hey Patriotic American U.S.A. at this point Cuba is by far a better place to be than America. America will never bounce back to the great nation that it once was.
By the way, Costa Rice is paradise, so please keep your dictator, tele-promter, hip-hop, halfrican-american president there in the United States.
Good luck America, the terrorists are laughing their asses off ....!
J. Herron,
They are a Red Herring because he has disclosed what is legally required. He has followed the law. Outside of that it is really none of your or mine or anybody elses business. Just like Obamas college transcript. I suspect there were a few D's and F's on it but who cares. It is irrelevent. Just like Romneys taxes. As I said earlier, I assume he paid the least amount of taxes legally allowed. Good for him.
The rest of your input is full of typical lefty innuendo and rumor that has no basis in fact. Typical of the Obama admin.
We NEED adults in the Oval office....not a bunch of teenagers that reside there now.
Larry; um, not sure if you are aware of this; but Bush is not running for office. I get a kick out of those that still try to bring Bush into the mix. LOLOLOLOLO. So, so childish and immature.
There is no law that requires any one, even a candidate for President, to disclose their tax returns. There is however, precedent, tradition and transparency. Romney gets to withhold whatever tax returns he want to withhold. The opposition gets to ask why he won't disclose more, especially the years he was engaged in that great private sector experience that qualifies him to be President of ALL the people.
Yes, the opposition can ask all they want. They can also create innuendo and irresponsible rumors. No law against that. Clearly the IRS has seen his tax returns and there is nothing illegal in them. So why do you care what they show? He is rich....get over it. Heck, obviously, Obama had a couple of quarters of straight F's while at Harvard. I mean, I heard that from Harry Reid. LOLOLOL!!
And speaking of transparency, is that what you think our current POTUS has lived up to? If you consider bald faced liars "transparent" then I agree with you.
Grow up.
Victor - the GOP hasn't given up on the birthers and the dems aren't going to give up on the tax returns. Its politics. One side's hands are no cleaner than the others. I am charmed however by your belief that just because the IRS didn't question a tax return means it must be okay.
I have no doubt that Romney's tax returns are legal. Unfortunately what they might (I say MIGHT) show is how the wealthy have managed to manipulate the government to get tax breaks and deductions far beyond anything the middle and the working class might ever see. It might show that the more money you have, the easier it is to protect a higher percentage of it from paying for government that protects you and your business interests with trade agreements, defense and infrastructure, among other services and supports.
In this regard, its not really about Romney. His tax returns might however demonstrate to the vast majority of voters how badly they have been screwed over by their own representatives for decades.
Anita,
I agree with a lot of what you say. However, I don't think we need to see Romneys tax returns to determine that rich people, (Buffet, Soros, Clinton, Jobs, Katzenberg, Geffen, Weinstein etc....) take advantage of every loophole possible. The solution is to address the tax code and make the neccessary changes (i.e, change the law).
The POTUS own commision, Simpson/Bowles, put forth a recommendation to do just that. Of course, Obama promptly chose to ignore the recommendations of his own commission--clearly for political purposes. Once again, demonstrating a complete lack of leadership.
Hence, we need adults in the Oval Office that are willing to address the tough challenges of our day. Right now we have two lightweights there....unfortunately.
There are not enough basilisk fangs in the world to save america from whoever he picks...
Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are always talking about cuts, but NOT when it comes to WAR. They want to take it out on the middle class.
Of course, Mitt Romney will not go to fight his wars OR ANY OF HIS 5 sons, BECAUSE ACCORDING TO HIM, THEY ARE ON A MISSION TO HELP HIM GET ELECTED. They want to send your sons and daughters to die in another UNPROVOKED WAR.
Ryan is the WORST possible choice. He is a snake that would sell his own mother for a profit.
Keep the safety nets for the poor and disabled alive: Vote Democrat
Romney proposes increasing military spending 260 billion a year which is double proposed cuts elsewhere. Hard to see where this will lead to a lower deficit.
I respond...
The best safety net for the poor and disabled are private sector jobs. Obama just doesn't get it when his policies are all oriented against the private sector.
Like ryan or not, what VP has ever impacted a nation other than becoming president by the death of the existing POTUS?
Ryan plan is pushing old ladies in wheel chairs over the cliff and let the middle class die in the streets. I see Ryan as one of the biggest losers in America !!!
This should clinch it for Obama. Anyone with a lick of sense will keep the Republican looters out of the white house, congress as well.
The best safety net for the poor and disabled are private sector jobs. Obama just doesn't get it when his policies are all oriented against the private sector.
So, if you believe that Trickle Down Economics fairy tale, why is the private sector not doing more in the job area? It seems that they should be creating a lot of jobs, since the market is doing very good.
The Trickle Down Economics has been a brainwashing campaign that has NEVER WORKED. People with money don't care about anything, just more money.
If what you say is true, Mitt Romney would have NO PROBLEM showing his taxes from many years. He just went around the "legal"loops to avoid paying them.
Wake up and smell the coffee. Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney are not going to help you or anybody else that is not a millionaire already.
I detect a noticeable absence of rwnj post trashers. Must be devastating to find out that the election was lost today. Back in May, I predicted Romney would cut his own throat by July. I was off by a month. The election won't even be close now.
Doesn't matter..Romney never had much of a chance before the pick and now has even less..Thanks Mitt.
OBAMA 2012. You have NO competition.
Ryan will become an Albatross around Romneyhoods neck... Like Palin was to McCain.
Put Ryan on a sea jet and send him to the Mormon missionaries in France so he can play Rambo with Romney the Clown !!!!!!!!!!
Come one IRESPOND, name the last Democrat president who either served in or had children in the military? The answer would be Jimmy Carter! Since then the Republican presidents who either served in or had children in the military were: Ronald Reagan in a public service, propaganda part. Both of the Bush Presidents were either in the military or the national guard.
Clinton and Obama never served or had ANY close relative in our armed forces! Whenever you vomit out the fact that Romney never served or had his kids in the military please remember how desperate and stupid you sound!
"Amerhoods " comeback team! Tryin with Ryan to to bring America back to the past... and the future under Corporate Control... all praise the Koch Overlords.
Time to get up early on Saturday? :(
You must live in the west, hehe. That is mid-morning for some of us.
HEHE! What's wrong w/ you,man?
Ryan is a Boring little Worm and will be the death of Romney !!!!
The only man bold enough to propose a plan is boring? At least he has a pair, unlike you. You are the worm, maybe weasel?
LMFAO! Ummmm... so he announces his VP candidate on a Saturday morning when most people are either just waking up (or sleeping on the West Coast) OR watching the Olympics. Wow. What a totally disfunctional campaign! Maybe he picked Sarah Palin - thus the embarrassment and timeframe for his announcement! The GOP continues to implode.
i say it wil be Tim Pawlenty because Romney cannot seem to figure out how to run for president.
So he will take Pawlenty who was waiting in the wings unitl McCain chose Sarah.
Safe, easy and does not ruffle any GOP feathers.
but whomever, MN will be in the blue column come November.
NorthstarDFL,
Campaign sources have confirmed it is Paul Ryan. Democrats couldn't be happier tonight!!
Donald Duck would have been a better pick, this Ryan is another Empty Suit like Romney. ("THIS PARTY IS FINISH" )
No, we are finished if we have 4 more years of this crap we have been getting.
Dream on A**HOLE.
the Democrats, if they really want Ryan for VP, would be strangely silent now instead of screaming like alley cats at their nightly concert! They are in fear and know that there is finally someone to articulate the conservative plan!
Romney has the choice of some of the most talented and qualified Republicans in the country... He is a great manager and knows how to surround himself with good people. What a contrast America will see compared to the disorganized and hip shooting Democrats in the Obama Administration... Now watch the polls and how Romney's message resonates as his numbers climb!!!
Go Romney! 2012!!! Yeah Baby!!!
Of course if its Ryan it probably costs Romney Florida and the presidency.
Dream on
Daniel
Have you been drinking again?
Don't laugh, just wait! You guys need to go study your election histories!
Well ok Starbuck, mabey a few scotches... Just giving you a straight answer...
But I'm not driving...
Romney is not a great manager in terms of nation building, he is a great manager in terms of profit building. Two completely different skills.
A contrast to what? If you're referring to the quiet subtle and conservative practices of President Obama's foreign policy then we both agree, Romney will only ruin our nation on that front.
If you're referring to the slow but forward progress we're making on the economy then yes, Romney will also set us back 4 years on that as well.
If you're referring to the many civil rights we've gained in the last 4 years regarding marriage, equality for all people gay or not and a woman's right to contraceptives then yes, yet again Romney will set us back on that too.
If you're talking the beginning of the Affordable Healthcare Act and Romney's plans to repeal it, then yes. Yet again your "Hip Shooting" self serving party of No Republicans will also ruin that for this nation.
Matter of fact, i'm starting to think Republicans would rather see the nation revert back to pre-WWII times. I'm starting to think Republicans won't be happy until women are in the kitchen all day, men work jobs exposed to all kinds of health hazards and bankers sit back and collect profit. Ahh the good old days eh Daniel? Back when segregation existed and the Republican Army of NO were at their prime.
The polls show President Obama is getting another 4 years. Get used to seeing that. No one can save Romney from himself. He refuses to release taxes, doesn't relate to anyone who earns less than 250,000.00 a year and has so many strings attached from corporate sponsors its sickening.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
Can you blame him? I'd be drinking heavily if I was a Romney supporter too.
Keep dreaming Daniel Streibig
17 of his 22 advisors are former Bushies so he's really surrounding himself with the Best. The Best what ------ Bad Examples?
OMG THEY DID IT!!!
THEY BROUGHT ZOMBIE REAGAN BACK FROM THE DEAD!!!!!
Oh, you meant Ryan. LOL never mind. :)
Doctor No is the perfect nickname for Paul "VOTE NO ON EVERYTHING" Ryan. :)
Great pic and beard but I think by picking Ryan he just killed any chance of winning an I guess I know who the GOP wants to groom for 2016 but there missing the point he not the solution he part of the problem. Huntsman was the only choice and they through him away.
GCooper: Matter of fact, i'm starting to think Republicans would rather see the nation revert back to pre-WWII times. I'm starting to think Republicans won't be happy until women are in the kitchen all day, men work jobs exposed to all kinds of health hazards and bankers sit back and collect profit. Ahh the good old days eh Daniel? Back when segregation existed and the Republican Army of NO were at their prime.
Base on Daniel's avatar pic - you got this right! Yep, Repuglicons will bring us back to the past.
are you being ironic or (delusionally) serious?
GCooper, terrific post. Well stated.
If Obama gets another four years, this country is finished. He will take from the hard working producers and give to the lazy complainers. Thats what he does. So all of you commentaries who are having a good laugh about Romney's choice, lets see if you are laughing it up when this country goes BANKRUPT in two years. This President will bankrupt this country with his policies. Its is already starting. 100 million people on government assistance. You wont be laughing when it goes to 150 million or 200 million. That is where it is heading. If Obama gets re-elected, thousands of companies and business will move to other countries because of the Obama administration anti-business climate and take from the hard working producers and give to the lazy complainers policies. GET READY!
That's because according to Obama's plan, we don't have to work, let's just live off the govt. How true is that statement!
I think all Republicans should just collect unemployment while Obama is in office just so the democrats know how we feel.
All you dems. are so radical with your need for immoral stands from supporting changing of our constitution, pro destruction of an unborn child and support of someone who seeks a court order to block anyone from seeing any of his college transcripts and writings. How could anyone trust this bogus man that refuses to allow the public to see the truth? How can anyone support someone who supports someone like Jerimiah Write and Louis Farrakan? Only those who have allowed their morals to decay beyond what America has stood for for many decades. You are sick and beat up on anything that mentions any idea beside their bi-racial President that has put this nation in the biggest economic distress in a century. In four years we should have been better or at least not worse but instead we are more in debt that any other time of our nations. Biden sleeps half-way through his speaches and meetings and Obama can't speak unless he has a telepropter. He is not the first Black President. He is the first Bi-racial President. He even lies about what his race really is. But the wonderful thing about all these comments, you will notice that rarely will you see a Republican running there mouth (except me) about everything that might be negative. Just stroll through these comments and read each one outloud. You will then see that the majority of people that posted here are just a bunch of know it alls that know nothing. That sums it up. --you stay with Obama and watch what America is like when you turn it over to your children. They will love you for it!!
PDB & Unhappy; obviously you guys work for a living; We're the new minority. These nitwits on here don't get it!
great post
The republican plan is to take from the poor and middle class and give to the rich while saying it's the only way to create jobs and people on the right are just stupid enough to believe it.
and watch the conversation turn to the RYAN BUDGET !!! As a lib I think Paul Ryan is a formidable politician, but his budget will sink the gop !!!
I believe a major miscalculation on behalf of the Democrats is that Seniors and Social Security and Medicare recipients are willing to sell their vote in return for a candidate that doesn't have the political character to tell the truth, make the hard choices and tell the hard truths... Thats a mistake... And that idea that Democrats can continue to purchase votes from people that they believe will sell them for a little larger government check will cost them the election...
So you think Medicare recipients want to vote for the guys who want to gut medicare? Do you realize how desperate that sounds? Almost as desperate as announcing a VP on a Saturday morning during the Olympics.
I believe a major miscalculation on behalf of the Republicans is that poor people are stupid. We know that trickle down doesn't work. The GOP has touted it for 30 years, but there are more poor people than ever in this country. The Bush tax cuts will create more jobs? They've had 10 years to do that - where are they? A rich man that says "I have nothing to hide" has something to hide. We are not dumb.
No flipping way that seniors on social security and medicare recipients will embrace having their benefits messed with without putting up a fight. Ain't happening because it's the only lifeline for so many of them. Two of those recipients are sitting across the room from me as I type. Both of them were aligned with Romney, but gosh how that just suddenly changed.
Ha, Daniel Sreibig, I just qualified for Social Security disability, think I'll sell out? As I said already, keep dreaming.
Daniel, here in Florida seniors hate hate hate Ryan. Remember we have the most despised governor in the country. Our governor is already attacking seniors and the disabled, do you really believe throwing Ryan into the mix is going to help? They tried to sell coupon care at senior centers here, and the seniors all but tossed them out on their ears.
The tea nuts won't be much help, they are fighting amongst themselves too much here to be of much help. Good Bye Florida!!!
Yes, let's talk about Ryan's budget. Just the simple fact that he has one.
TimmPete, maybe you dont understand how our political system works. The president did have a budget and sent it off to congress, you know them the DO NOTHING congress......well they did nothing. I believe that claim of the president not having a budget was called poppycock last week.
This might help you out (2013 budget) and if you look real hard you can find one for each year too!
http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/Overview
Don't get too complacent with this horrible, scary pick....democrats...who would of thought gwbush would of won in 2000? We all knew he lacked intelligence and was a bad drunk who went awol........and look what that era brought us.
Tammy,
The Congress did do something with the POTUS budget. They voted on it and it got exactly ZERO....yes ZERO votes. None. Nada. Niete.
I think that should tell YOU something.
Did it ever occur to anybody that these news sources could be wrong, and NitMitt picks somebody else? "Maybe Palin": Well Bristol, that is......
Obama/Biden 2012
Flag waver - As a Floridian(by way of the military), I can tell you how GWB got elected in 2000. And to add to Tammy's point, they are attempting to do it again, this time by attempting to suppress the vote.
VictorKingdom - Nice to see you again. You know the real reason why Obama's budget didn't get any votes(well it actually got a couple but those that did was urged to change their votes to nay). It was only a procedural vote remember? It can actually be reintroduce instead of it actually being killed. Reid was smart to do this.
Victor Kingdom: Budget proposals are only typically brought up for a vote when there's a consensus from both sides that's acceptable. Republicans forced a vote knowing it wouldn't pass and democrats refused to play declining to vote which is automatically entered as a no. No democrats voted against Obama's budget they simply refused to vote when it couldn't pass. This was simply a republican game they figured would play well with the truly stupid of their party.
The only possible WORST selections would have been Dick Cheney and Sarah Palin.
What is wrong with the GOP? Do they really hate this country that much?
Paul Ryan is BAD FOR Americans!!!!!
Romney & Ryan are like a Dog & Pony Show, they are like fools gold !!!
Common Sense and Larry,
I call your explanation an excuse. More excuses for lack of accountability. In essence, Obama's budget had ZERO support from either side of the aisle. That hurts.
Victor, Last time you call anything of mine and excuse you found out it was a true statement. Look up at the votes and how many democrats change their votes (I believe it was 20) to keep the budget in play....
Amazing that the selection has been kept a secret....
Looks like ROMNEY-RYAN.....
Mormon & Moron / 2012 !!!!!!!!
Yawn... Now there will be two losers on the ticket.
But he killed a steelworker's wife dying of cancer!
Campaign's ugly, going to get uglier. Attention Governor Romney: get ready for some sh-tbag Chicago politics. Fire back with both barrels or prepare to lose our country to the Marxist-in-chief.
it shall be the latter....
Better than a fascist-in-chief the GOP is pushing for.
Oh please Please PLEASE let it be Ryan!!!
Hand Mittless the shovel....start digging Willard!!
Obama/Biden 2012
Yes, the party who've made accusations against Obama doubting his being born in Hawaii even after he released his birth certificate, called him a closet muslim, radical, socialist, loads of conspiracy theories about his college days and probably of being a space alien. They still sling the same old crap hoping enough will stick they'll turn a few votes away from him. Hard to call Obamas pointing out legitimate questions concerning when Romney left Bain, how he ran Bain and questions about his taxes as even close to the crap your party has slung.
PETER PANDER and Pauly Purebred !!!!!!!! Perrrrrfect !!!!
Hehe, not sure I'd call Pauly "purebred".
@cowboy17: Love it. Peter Pander and Pauly Purebred. If that does not catch on with the pundits.....
But, anti-trust does have a point. Perhaps Pauley Offshore???
Love this combination: one of them would eat your grandmother's face for money; the other would make sure she was baptized after the fact.
Bob, old friend: it is game over for Romney. He just lost the election. Can't win without Florida and Ohio, and he just made certain that they will vote against him.
Get ready to salute the reelection of President Obama.
Let's be clear, the SENATE has not passed a budget nor has the SENATE leader allowed a budget to come to the floor for debate and/or be voted on that has been submitted by the President and passed by the House . The SENATE is controlled by whom??????? DEMOCRATS/aka HARRY REID.
Mitt Romney can expect his dead cat bounce to catapult his campaign from the bottom of the pile to the top of the bottom of the pile.
Romney must be nervous about latest polls. He needs the bump of announcing his VP choice. And by the way Romney camp, voters are not in the doldrums of summer, they are paying attention and that is the cause of your candidate slipping in the polls.
It's not going to help Romney having a guy from the House who represents everything Americans hate about Congress - The inability to work with others. Can you imagine what would happen if Ryan went on a diplomatic tour of other countries? It would be even worse than Romney going!
Picking someone from Congress is dumb. Having the Tea Baggers pick Ryan for Romney is even worse than picking Palin. The only way they could have made it super bad would be to pick Bachmann, so I guess then just settled on Ryan, like the Republicans settled on Romney.
you mean that dem congress that doesn:t understand what a budget is????even when explained, christ they even voted against their own dem budget, wow great intelligence!!!!about like alot of our posters on here!!!Wouldn"t know a wall if they walked into it!!!!
or an exclamation mark!!!!
The only polls that count are the ones that take place on Nov 6th. All others are purely subjective.
No democrat voted against Obamas budget proposal, they refused to vote without enough to pass it. Refusing to vote is entered as a no. Democrats negotiate in good faith to come up with a consensus as did republicans before the tea party loonies took over. Now they play games forcing a vote when there isn't enough to pass hoping the fools will take a non vote as meaning something. Tea baggers may not be bright enough to know the difference, most Americans are.
Actually refusing to vote is registered as a "yes" vote. For all of you unregistered voters and those registered but do not vote people, remember that your vote counted. Your silence was a yes vote for the person who won, whether or not wanted him/her in office.
We, the people, have strength; lots of it, if only we would use it. There are too many out there that are disgruntled and believe, wrongly, that they do not have a voice in government; that there vote doesn't make a difference. In solidarity we are stronger than corporations. This government was created by the people, for the people and we, the people handed over the power to our elected officials. Does anyone agree that it is time to take our government back?
I believe he was referring to votes in the house or senate.
So, what are the Vegas odds makers saying? I don't care. The Republican party has managed to alienate just about everybody. The party I knew and grew up with is not the party of today. They are going to march off the electorial cliff like lemmings into the sea. Maybe that is what is needed. The electorate in this county, like the country itself is changing. Obama will win and more democrates than the polster's think may win with him. One more thing: If this announcement interrupts my football game, I will have yet another reason to dislike Romney....
Libra, exactly my feelings. I've voted mostly Republican all my life (since the 60s). What I have seen in Congress in the last 3 years is repulsive and downright un-American. Starting this year, I vote a straight Dem ticket and that will not change until I see GOPs acting in the best interest of the USA and not their GD party politics.
Libradad, Elk_767 -
The only thing I can figure is that he desperately needs those "undecided" conservatives that don't like him(because he's rich) and can't trust him(health care, aka Romneycare in Mass and initially being a moderate republican most of his political career) to back him. The problem is he's giving up 3-5 percent of the independent vote that were on the fence with him for the 1-2 percent of those conservatives/tea party folks to eventually vote for him instead of staying at home. I don't know who was doing the "strategy" for his campaign but this to me is a serious mis-calculation on their part as this tells all those independents what he intends to do if elected with this pick.
Romney's for banning beer ads in sport television advertising. Imagine the Super Bowl under a Romney administration. The ads would consist of mainly dot com geeks trying to sell their stupid websites and root beer ads.
I still say Portman.
But being in Virginia, could there be a McDonnell surprise in the works?
It's being announced on board the USS Wisconsin...so it's Pauly.....if its Christie you will notice the ship listing.......
ship listing......LOL!!!
Meet America's newest albatross on Saturday, Saturday, SATURDAY! How will the Willard of Oz even try to be able disguise the "Plan to Rape Amercia" if he picks Ryan.
Be there for the lamest show on earth. A shame Rombot couldn't make this announcement in front of the Curiousity rover.
Rombot.Has.Nothing.
Well, at least when Ryan gets done raping America.. maybe he'll follow the bible and give us 30 sheckles of silver after he's done!
Here it is! My final list of those who Romney should never pick:
It can’t be Daniels; he scares
first wives,ex-wives,the first wife a second time (but living next door), oh hell, just wives in general. It can't be Ryan; he scares seniors, at least those who haven’t done him the favor of dying already.
It can’t be Pawlenty; he scares himself.
It can't be Rubio; he scares Latinos, or at least Latinos who are brown.
It can’t be Condi; she scares Mormons, or at least Mormons who are white.
It can't be Portman; he scares people who remember Bush.
It can't be Jeb; he IS a Bush.
It can’t be Paul; he scares people who can’t remember a dang thing.
It can't be Jindal; he scares the entire cast of The Simpsons, with the possible exception of Apu at the Kwik-E-Mart.
It can’t be Trump; he scares Mr. Burns. Who would have thought THAT possible?
It can’t be Haley; she scares the Far Right wing.
It can’t be Christie; he scares the entire chicken.
It can't be Ayotte; she scares men.
It can't be McDonnell; he scares women. Well, those with...you know.
It can't be Bachman; she scares the living.
It can’t be Cheney; he scares the dead, as well as anyone waiting on a transplant list.
It can't be someone human; too stark a contrast.
That leaves Palin.
Wait, let's start over.
Hilarious! Love it!
From political comedian and Obama donor Bill Maher, via the Patriot Ledger of Quincy, Mass.:
Palin would be a better choice than Ryan.
I would shoot myself before I married Ann Coulter. It isn't just her politics, but her deeply entrenched hatred and anger. What an unhappy person who does her best to spread her unhappiness.
Why would he be watching it all day anyway...weird statement.
MSNBCMFE, Thank you! You made my evening.
Bill Maher's mom must have been scared by Skeletor!
MSNBCMFE -
great post. I love it
Flif flopper Mitt is accusing Obama of "a new low" As if his ads were full of love and gratitude.
LMAO: He announced Paul Ryan as the next "President" Well he got that right. Paul Ryan would be the next President, since Paul Ryan is a lot more venomous than anybody in the GOP. This weasel wants to get RICH in a hurry.
In 2008, Obama introduced Biden as the "next President of the United States and Biden said Barrack America should be elected President, LMAO LMAO
Yay! The Ryan pick will assure Obama's win in November. Romney is an empty suit who refuses to give any specifics on how he would solve the problems he wants us to trust him to solve. That's probably because he doesn't have a clue. He's a typical CEO who makes decisions without knowing how things really work. All he knows is the bottom line and he doesn't care how it's achieved or who gets hurt in the process. His Presidency would throw millions of retirees into bankruptcy by dissolving Medicare alone and replacing it with a voucher system that would make most individuals' health insurance cost over 1/3 of their income. His eradication of many federal programs would bankrupt the states which would be in the position of trying to replace the money from federal grants. Poor states would be devastated. Other states would become poor states. Thank goodness it won't happen because he will not be elected. When Ryan is announced as the VP candidates, the Democrats will be rejoicing!
oh ,so you would rather have bummer sell you down the river?????
PAUL RYAN: The next PRESIDENT of the US, according to MITT ROMNEY HIMSELF
LMAO
Romney must think that is how he will get elected..in 2008, Obama introduced Biden as the "next President of the United States" and Biden later called Obama "Barack America"
Romney isn't nervous... He's just working his plan... Hell the Republicans are just getting warmed up. They haven't even opened up Romney's $800 million warchest when he gets his nomination... And he hasn't even begun to bring all of the Oblunders to the attention of the American public!
Go Romney2012! Yeah Baby!!!
working "his" plan????????
The ONLY plan Flip Flopney has is do as he is told to do by the teabaggers
There is not enough money in the world to make him look good.
An old saying goes, you can polish up a pile of sh1t with some new paint, but in the end its still a pile of sh1t.
-Daniel
Hope you are sober enough to understand this,.. America can't be and won't be bought. So Romney can take that $800 million warchest and send it to one of his offshore accounts. Romney/Ryan lol ..more like Frick and Frack
Just because the polls, CBS, ObamaMSNBC and the like have their man up a couple of points doesn't mean its true. Romney is probably up about 10 points. Thankfully most of this idiot MSNBC lemmings live in IL, NY, CA and Communist China.
Sorry, John.
FOX also has Romney BEHIND, and falling.
John, you are a classic republican, as your lying arse knows damn well that your own propaganda machine ie. fox news, has Obama ahead 7 points. nice try but over here we deal in reality
deal with this reality,BUMMER,will send you down the river, with out a boat!!!!
Romney working his plan....needs to wash his hands when done.
Its funny.
None of you realize that the Romney and Ryan proposals are based on the Simpson/Bowles recommendations.
As if little bush and big dick didn't leave us drowning in a sea of bullshyt
I think after the debates it'll really look bad for Romney. The moderators will pound on Romney if he tries to sell how his and Ryans plan won't devastate seniors or the middle class but sticks to his claim he won't release specifics until after he's elected. He keeps talking about what he'll cut but refuses to say what he'll eliminate in order to pay for his $280,000+ tax cut average every 1% er would get under his plan. Anyone who remembers what Reagan did know exactly who'll pay.
Wake up!! Unless you are a billionaire....Romney/Ryan could care less about you too!
About 100 white people paid by the GOP to show up at that announcement. All put into a very small place to make it look like a crowd.
Pathetic!
Paul Ryan is a LIAR, a MAGGOT!
We are going back to "prosperity"and "people working" by FIRING teachers, policemen and eliminating medicare.
We are going to "restore energy" by polluting the environmenet, INCREASING GLOBAL WARMING,ETC.
These are the visions of Romney/Ryan: VOTE THEM OUT
John: The Simpson Bowles plan includes taxing capital gains as regular income something that's opposite of what Romney and Ryan have proposed. Romney and Ryan took the things from their plan that increased taxes on the middle class but eliminated those that affected the rich. If they took it in it's entirety Romneys taxes would raise from 13.9% to probably closer to 25%. With how they've redefined it he'd be below 10%.
The only people that will be up that early on the west coast are the seniors....so watch for a rash of heart attacks on the west coast tomorrow....
Of course it will be Paul Ryan....have to give the evangelicals and the Tea Partiers someone to get behind.
He also needs distraction for the continuing bad new coming out about him, sitting on the board of Hilton Hotels and voting to exercise the Tax avoidance scheme. Being caught in another Tax avoidance scheme in Houston dealing with Real estate and to this day is having to correct what he tried to do. But we only scratch the surface. show your Tax returns Mitt. Why would anyone want someone of this entitilement caliber in charge of the country. And now Ryan???? never worked a day in his life and he wants to tell you what you need to live.
Sounds like the President!
On a religious level a very strange mix, A Roman Catholic [papist], a Mormon and your religious right. Veeeeery interesting! Also Ryan likes author Ayn Rand who has one part of her philosophy, which is to reject religion and faith.
Has it ever occurred to anyone that Romney is trying to lose? He's gotten so much heat about his taxes and more coming every day. It will not be resolved until he does release his taxes and he knows it.
What Romney is hiding is much worse than losing the bid for Presidency. By all measures his decisions are tanking his bid, he's trying to bail out. It's obvious.
He picked Paul Ryan?! The guy who wants to change Medicare into a coupon system?! He just lost.
You liberals are really stupid. VP doesn't change anything. If it did then why didn't Quayle sink Bush in 88 And Gore was a terrible choice and Clinton won in 92. Which if you could put your small thinking minds around the last sentence, you would realize the ECONOMY will be the final vote. Bush was still riding the final years of the Reagan prosperity and coasted to victory. Clinton won because people were unemployed. But you keep living in your liberal bubbles.
FiendNCheeses, Romney did pick Ryan, someone in the far right of the Republican Party picked Ryan for him. Just like Palin got picked for McCain, and we all know how that turned out.
Use your memory if you have one. Palin killed McCain.
John,
What you say about the power of a VP is correct, sometimes.
We all remember President Cheney (Bush was just his spokesman).
Romney has no actual convictions and will do whatever he is told to do.
John, Again with the fantasies, We all see that picking Palin had no effect on McCain. Perhaps you should take your meds and a nap before basket weaving class
McCain killed McCain long before Palin came around. Furthermore, people had a problem with Palin because she appeared inexperienced and ditzy. Ryan is a totally different candidate than Palin was. Yes, Ryan is a conservative like Palin, but he's a conservative with a level of gravitas that Palin did not posses. Ryan is what Palin should have been, & it's going to rally a conservative base that has serious problems with Mitt Romney's moderate past.
Is that why Unemployment is over 8%? Because we picked wrong?
JW,
"Rallying the conservative base" is like saying "rallying ten people in a room full of one hundred." Romney needed to rally the Independent fifty from the middle in order to actually win, and with Ryan, he sent them to Obama in droves.
This is August. Why at this late hour should the presumptive Republican nominee be needing to rally the conservative base?
Our seniors have been sick of medicare for a long time; and guess what they're smart, they can see right through glass man Obama. Come November the jive-talkin is overwith.
unhappy - let's be honest here...unemployment is not where anyone wans it to be, but it has certainly improved under the present administration. Don't you think it is unreasonable to ask an administration to undo in 4 years what the previous one took 8 years to do? Your credibility is questionable with statements like that if you are serious...on the other hand, perhaps you are just another troll with an agenda?
Bewildered - I'm a senior...on medicare...and I'm not unhappy with it; nor are any of the others I know. More to the point, I have read nothing in the AARP mag in that vein. So, the question is "What is the source to support your statement?" Just a hunch...I'm betting we don't see any intelligent response to this.
elk_767
as you can well see there isn't a lot of intelligence even here, also a senior on medicare who shares your views about not being unhappy with it, and I also know many having the same views here.
They can take all their polls and flush 'em.......
Unhappy. McCain ( not we ) picked wrong is why he is not president today. It has not one iota to with unemployment. Unemployment is more a function of of a weak word wide economy and fear in the markets, but underneath it all I suspect you were already aware of that.
Retarded Romney just said in his "opening ceremony"that Paul Ryan will be the next "PRESIDENT"OF THE US.
He can't help but putting his foot in his mouth EVERY SINGLE TIME.
If you vote for these two you can kiss good bye all the barriers of the EPA: In other words, you will be suffering from more diseases due to the pollution, but you won't have INSURANCE to see a doctor.
In other words: Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney DO NOT CARE
Looks like Willard had a overdose of Bozo pills !!!!!!!
What a awful pick. The Mitt just caved in to the Tea Party. Does he not have any more guts than that! I can not stand Ryan....who can?
You make it sound like the tea party is just 2 people. Have you not seen the rallies? This is a huge voting block and tea party candidates have been winning all over the country. You can pretend to marginalize them all day long, but they aren't going away. This pick is just going to energize them further.
JW,
Ugh. The Tea Party has only been winning Republican PRIMARIES. Winning statewide general elections with a slew of extremist candidates is an entirely different matter.
Independents who will now swing to Obama at the top of the ticket will likely lean Democratic down-ticket, as well.
You can thank your man Mitt for that.
Face it Republicans, you had a slim shot with Romney and Pawlenty or even Christie, but the only choice worse than Ryan was Bachmann. People don't like him and he will definitely lose you the elderly vote, a large chunk of the Independents, and a decent selection of your own moderates. That's pretty much a sweeping loss come November.
Ryan VP Pick, from the far right TeaTrash, GOP just loosed my Vote !!!
Ryan VP Pick, from the far-right TeaTrash, GOP just loosed my Vote !!!
That seals it folks...just like the Palin pick sealed it in 2008. I would ask all the moderate and left Republicans to vote for Gary Johnson. I'm a Dem voting for him. Let's fix the issues with this country.
Johnson/Gray 2012
That would be truly great if we had another party win and show both Reps. and Dems. how fed up we are. People should check out old "Gov. Veto" of New Mexico, who was a Republican, but did not let that sway him in his pursuits, crossing party lines when needed. I believe he had more vetos during his terms as Gov., than all the vetos of the other Govs. in the other 49 states.
Please stop breaking in saying this is breaking news! It hasn't been announced and it stopped being breaking news the first time you broke in! Bring back Lockup. Sad but true, felons are way more interesting than Mitt Romney's running mate.
That is the Truth JillJack
It's good news for Obama.
Looter & Voucher will be Romney's down fall !!!
To "Patriotic American USA": 13 posted comments about Ryan and each one more idiotic than the last! Your juvenile name-calling and moronic comments adds nothing of value to the political discussion. Why not save up all of your worthless ideas and post them in a single comment rather than posting every "thought" that enters your feeble brain? Oh, and the multiple exclamation points are a dramatic touch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
