Two attack ads that were quickly labeled out of bounds shaped the campaign narrative this week. NBC's Domenico Montanaro also reports Mitt Romney has narrowed his VP pick to the final three: Rob Portman, Tim Pawlenty, and Paul Ryan, but his choice likely won't come until after his swing-state bus tour.
Video edited by NBC's Matt Loffman.

Huh?
Maybe it's just me, but I didn't find anything depressing about this week!
Politics,is after all a contact sport and if you can't take a punch, you have no business throwing one! Yes, I am looking at YOU, Willard!
Matter of fact, any week where Willard is on the ropes is a terrific week for us loony, lefty, liberals! lol
Fasten your seat belts, we are in for some turbulance from now until election day!
*popcorn*
The depressed people would be Willard, his campaign and his supporters (Adelson, Koch, etc)........
Yippee!...from a looney leftard loon!
Oh Feisty -how do you always get to post first???? I just wanted to do that since we know it's coming from one of the mental midgets!
Obama/Biden 2012
Send me a money order for $19.95 and I'll tell ya! lol
PS: I also accept PayPal! ;o)
They sure are swarming FR today!
4 MORE FOR 44!!
They definitely are - and they seem to be multiplying! Scary thought!
It wasn't a depressing week, but instead a good week. The Republicans can't stand that the Democrats and the President are punching back, and willing to get into the mud with them.
It would seem that it was a depressing week for Mitt Romney and the Rs but otherwise it was a pretty good week. Nothing spectacular but we can't be in the middle of a 3 ring circust 24/7/365.
Yes, Sanity, the people who are going to vote against the Obama regime are multiplying faster than you could possibly imagine. We already out numbered you, but your savior is creating more of us each time he opens his mouth.
Too bad we don't respond to pollsters, or you'd have a better sense of the wrath Obama will feel in November.
You said it, Feisty and fellow leftie libs.
Mitt's arrogant, "I'm special so treat me special" attitude is apparent by his whining about ads or anything President Obama does that calls Mitt out for his flip flops, his taxes, Bain, whatever. Romney sure didn't treat his fellow GOP primary candidates with any respect; he lied and played dirty ad games then just as he is now. Mitt, the whiny wimp. I'll bet $10,000 of Mitt's money that when he was in school, he was the "tattle tale" when he didn't get his way.
Boner,
I have a hard time believing you would shut up for any reason.
Nothing depressing about it at all .. rather it was like watching NASCAR at its finest - the shock, horror, and awesomeness of seeing Willard's rich friends losing millions of dollars in a massive 200 MPH 20 car pile-up. Poor itty-bitty Andrea was chewed up and and spit out like a nasty piece of shoe leather. Couldn't have happened to a nicer campaigner. I haven't stopped laughing at the visual of Coulter spewing green vomit all over Hannity as her head did multiple 360s. If only Romney's flip-flops were so eloquent.
Hey Feisty, technically the week counts from Friday to Friday. So when you add in the extra event of Biden meeting with liberal groups (like the Disabled Veterans Group, to name at least one) in Las Vegas, I'd say the week counts as stellar.
How could I forget Uncle Joe paying a moving tribute to the DVG! ☺
How true Feisty and RedDev, I,too, had a great week. It was great in Las Vegas then to AZ and on to wonderful CA. Being with all my friends in LV including VP Biden, was extra special.
Mitt the Twit should try being with real friends (if he has any) they sure make life sweet. Can't wait for the next one.
milkboneundrwear - actually you DON'T outnumber Obama supporters. You just scream and yell so loudly it appears you do. Not even close!
Obama/Biden 2012
Wild week perhaps, depressing? No, no and no! ; )
Cheers everyone! Rock on fellow Dems.
Have a wonderful, fantastical kind of weekend.
http://travel.yahoo.com/ideas/5-great-places-to-catch-a-falling-star.html
San, I think most would agree the country is center right. There are not that many of you on the uber left.
The most depressing thing of all is how the media is taking the bait and allowing Romney's tax returns to become a back burner story. Oh please with the welfare and war on religion lies -- It's all to distract, maybe a little firing up the rightwing fringe, but and the media and American people are falling for it.
NO, it is not and never will be acceptable -- Romney -- Show us you damn returns NOW!!!!
Romney meets with Iowa farmer to get a firsthand account about the hardship caused by the drought.
True to form the farmer selected is a millionaire that owns 54 farms, owns a house that looks like a flying saucer and has his prsonal car wash on the property.
Mitt Romney clearly does not want to even try to understand ordinary people that face real hardships.
Dennis,
Priceless!!
Dennis, it makes you wonder how many subsidies that millionaire farmer took to get where he is today! Too bad they didn't talk about whether or not the government had any role in his success...
Ursula - are you saying that it's only republican farmers that take subsidies from the government? Or... are you saying that there are no millionaire democrat farmers? You aren't exhibiting double standards through your comments are you?
Corporate farm owner, gives a new meaning to the 'mom & pop' farm owner!
.....but afterall, 'Corporations are People too'!
Brian,
you are literally too dumb to insult.
I'll drink to that! lol
Owns 54 farms? If he did it would become one farm. Space ship house. So anything that doesn't look like inner city block apartment is foreign to you.
Problem with you Democrats is you actually think you know or understand something. How many of you are farmers? How many would understand what a farmer does? The Idea he has 54 farms is silly. I believe he owns a lot of land. You have to anymore with the costs of farming. There is no family farms like there was 40 years ago. As for subsidies get rid of all of them. Yes even the farm ones. Do not subsidise GM or Amtrak or oil companies or inner city projects. Get rid of it all. We can't afford it and it does not work.
No doubt the pell-mell farmer in the dell and Romney both blamed Obama for the drought, because as
GODer, um the GOP only knows, Global Warming is a myth.Detroit Storm - Ahhh but you are so intelligent that you actually voted for Obama... kinda makes you seem like an idiot at this point in time...
Come on Detroit Storm... up for a game of by the numbers? I can toss them out just as quickly as you can.
Detroit Storm,
are you saying that it's only republican farmers that take subsidies from the government? Or... are you saying that there are no millionaire democrat farmers? You aren't exhibiting double standards through your comments are you?
How was that a dumb question? Do you think its only Republican farmers who get subsidies.
r u kidding,

rukidding47 -
So this is what you think a typical Iowa farm house looks like? R U Kidding???
http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2012/08/10/667431/romney-visits-iowa-farmer-who-is-also-a-millionaire-real-estate-mogul-with-a-personal-car-wash/
Brian,
Once again you show your ignorance. You saw how I voted in 2008? The statement by Ursula was about the "average" farmer, yet you think that somehow she said all Republican s that are farmers receive subsidies. No one made that assertion, but you want someone to back it up. Throw out some numbers, like how many farmers that received subsidies are affiliated with each political party.
I'll wait....
Brianb - no, not suggesting there aren't liberal farmers (though that reads like an oxymoron). I'm just reminding the readers that our government helps business. That particular farmer took over $130K in subsidies for leaving acreage idle...pretty sweet deal!
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/08/10/1118573/-Romney-tries-again-to-add-a-commoner-s-touch-to-his-campaign-by-visiting-millionaire-farmer
Hey, how come those flying saucers never land at a university, or museum of science, how come they always land in the middle of nowhere? Why is it they always seem to land where some republican hillbilly's are camping and leave some poor guy with an empty 30 pack claiming he was abducted and gang probed by aliens?
LOL, Dennis.
Forrest Grump, because those people in the middle of nowhere need invisible friends?!!
still waiting....
Ursula - Notice you said the government paid it out... It is equally absorbed by farmers of all political stances. The government pays out subsidies so farmers who are given government directives as to what to plant, what not to plant, when to plant and when not to plant. This is why subsidies are paid... not because some farmer is greedy. Personally I think government should stay out of the farming business but it's much easier to blame the farmer for taking the money in.
If you've ever been in farming, you would know that it's not easy. Some years you reap well... some years you go under...
We should respect all farmers... but then there's some people that want to denigrate a farmer because he has a particular political tie... forget the person.. forget the business... only insult because of acquaintance... so typical of the left...
R U Kidding, obviously you know little about farms. If the 54 farms are not connected (side by side, one after another), they do not become one big farm; multiple farms are usually separated by land owned by other farmers.

Ignorance? Liberals using the class warfare game at the beginning of this thread is nothing but ignorance. Of course it was assumed that the farmer Romney visited was a republican.. it was an undercurrent... a rich farmer... had to be a republican since Romney visited him... or would you care to make the claim that Romney visited a democrat rich farmer? Eh?
Put two plus two together Detroit.. this board is full of innuendo from the left.
Brian,
There is enough innuendo from both sides, save your phoney outrage for someone thats buying it. So where are those numbers? I guess your sources will be ready as soon as trickle-down economics starts working, nes pas? And since you "knew" who I voted for in 2008, are you admitting to vote rigging?
"OMG! This might just be the moment Mitt Romney lost the election!"
That was what Conservative blogger and managing editor of RedState.com Erick Erickson tweeted when Romney Campaign press secretary Andrea Saul responded to the Priorities USA Action attack ad by expounding on the virtues of Mr. Romney's health care reform in Massachusetts.
"To that point, if people had been in Massachusetts, under Governor Romney's health care plan, they would have had health care."
Rush Limbaugh flipped out. Ann Coulter was apoplectic.
Gee...do you think Rick Santorum was right when he called Mitt Romney the worst Republican in the country to put up against President Obama?
Sounds like dude has one more reason to say "I TOLD YOU SO" on November 7.
She does a hell of a Linda Blair impersonation! ☺
Ol' "Frothy" Santorum had a couple of moments of clarity at the end of his primary campaign. The truth comes out when people are frustrated.
Question: How do you tell when Ann Coulter is apoplectic?
Answer: The tv camera is on.
Good one, JoAnne!
Feisty - was her head spinning? AGAIN????
JoAnne, ditto what NDD said!
The mainstream media just loves a false equivalency. Romney's campaign ran an ad saying President Obama has waved the work requirement for welfare recipients, and this is blatently untrue.
An outside group ran an attack ad against Romney with an interview with a steelworker who lost his job when Bain Capital shuttered his plant, and his wife died as a result of the husband losing his job and insurance. This man's story goes right to the heart of this election's issues about healthcare and Romney's supposed qualifications based on his business experience. To make these two ads "equivalent" is just dumb, lazy or biased. Like the media itself. (Sorry FR.)
Figures you got it backwards, Amy.
The welfare ad is an ISSUES ad- whether you agree that waiving the work requirement means waiving the work requirement, or doesn't. (I've learned that those in the Obama cult do not believe that words mean anything but what Obama says they mean. Therefore, for those within the cult, "waiving the work requirement" could mean "order the chocolate ice cream", "drive to the mall", or "jump off the roof". Just depends on what Obama tells them it means).
The "murder" ad was not only, provably, false- but a PERSONAL ATTACK on Romney's character. Here is a man who refused a buy out from a company that was closed well after Romney had left Bain, whose wife HAD health insurance for years AFTER he lost his job after refusing a buy out, and who died years after that.
There is a reason that even democrats are calling the ad despicable.
Too bad you're not one of them.
While we're talking about Willard's character...
How about Willard & his homophobe buddies holding a kid down at his elite boarding school, while Willard cut his hair off!
Thanks for reminding us...
Give it a rest Donna... you're out of steam!
Good Lord, woman, for the last bloody time...
1. Read the bloody HHS Memo!!!
2. This is what Governor Romney WANTED!!!
Again Dum Fux mentions homophobe... I guess a queen is a queen... and afraid of heterosexuals... What's the matter Dum Fux... did some bad heterosexual beat the dog snot out of you because he didn't like the dress and feathers you were using to cover up your manhood?
Brianb - oh for the love of... if you didn't give her the opening, she wouldn't walk through - you DO understand that, right????
Sorry, Noid- but your talking point is just plain wrong.
Romney signed a letter, along with other republican governors, in support of the 2005 PRIDE Act, which would have increased work requirements from 50% of the welfare population to 70%.
That was not a waiver, but an increase in the work requirement portion of the Wlefare reform act. It failed, by the way, after attacks from the left, who somehow feel it is more dignified to receive handouts than to work. I don't understand that- but I gave up, long ago, even trying.
NJNB - The left finds it very noble to give the government's money to people because they won't work... It's sort of a money for a vote kind of deal... the only day they have to actually do something is on election day... and they are required to vote democrat... Small price to pay for the money, housing, food and heating allowance they receive from the democrats... wouldn't you say?
Anyone ever notice that no jo has a great deal of difficulty sorting out fact from her own opinion?
The problem for Mittens is this: Every American, who has struggled with a large corporation, to keep some benefits, to be able to work a reasonable amount of hours during the week, without feeling like their job is on the line if they go home before they have worked a 12 hour day, or to simply keep their jobs...
Those people are going to get that ad and they will feel it to their souls.
The rest? They are like no jo, they can't care about anything but themselves.
newday - there is NEVER any fact from no jo - just her own bias!
She lives in a strange little dark world, Seeking Sanity.
The welfare ad is an ISSUES ad
and the issue is Romney demonizing poor people, or, I should say, mothers of young children, who make up the majority of welfare recipients. Funny, Ann Romney considers being a mother a full time job, but Mitt castigates poor women who take care of their children themselves, given the high cost of child care, as slackers.
Maybe it is a false equivalency since one ad is from the official Romney campaign and the other is from a Superpac an "unlimited donation/personhood, supposed free speech entity."
However, I believe the Obama campaign although not responsible for it should ask that the "personhood supposed free speech entity" not run it. It is exploiting a tragic event for the man's wife for political gain. While I agree with Amy on the relevance about issues that the sides have clear contrast on, IMO the death seems to have taken place a long time after Bain shuttered the plant, liquidated its assets and fired everyone.
As far as the Romney ad, if some GOP governors were asking for more 'states rights' in limiting work requirements to experiment with operating their welfare programs why all the blame on Obama for allowing it? Also agree that the demonization of people who are on welfare through no fault of their own should stop. Can't wait for the responses about my lazy, free loading, supposed "socialist" tendencies to come in.
Heard Romney asked for a truce or pledge against personal attacks. Perhaps he should be the first to sign on. From the looks of this thread a few should add their names to that truce as well.
Yep, same old dog whistles, right Amy? Started by Reagan, with "welfare Queens" and always racist, sexist and demeaning to women and children in crisis.
And then there is the fact the Romney welfare ad is a bald-faced lie.
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2012/aug/07/mitt-romney/mitt-romney-says-barack-obamas-plan-abandons-tenet/
Apparently Republicans think it is okay to lie, as long as you are lying about important issues.
Romney must have thought that if he didn't present any details of his plans, and didn't mention his term as governor of MA, he could convince everyone he was a remarkable businessman and get elected. If he framed every issue by merely pointing out what Obama did wrong, how could he be taken to task for his solutions (or lack thereof)?
Obama HAS a record, and Romney continually attacks it with lies, distortions, and words taken out of context - but that's okay because he is discussing the ISSUES.
Romney has no record, no policies, and no plans, so Obama presents facts about the very thing Romney himself used to justify his candidacy - his business background. This is apparently unfair, because it is not the "Issues".
The facts presented in the anti-Romney ads are usually not in dispute, just the conclusions. I thought that was how you made an argument - presented facts to support your conclusion?
Amy, well said. DaNoid, #4.3, love it!
Snookie Joe, republicans aren't the only one who can play the "issues" game. In fact, that's why conservatives have their noses out of joint--democrats are playing the game, too. The Obama SuperPAC ad is an "issues" ad because it points out what happens when vulture capitalists like Romney suck the life blood out of a profitable business, then kick the employees out the door without health insurance while the vultures pocket millions.
The ad hasn't aired and it probably will be tweaked before it does.
NJNB - You keep ignoring 2 Republican governors recently requested WAIVERS.
So, basically, the GOP wants it both ways ONCE AGAIN!!!
Don't Grant The Waivers = "Big Mean Nasty-Wasty Centralized Government!"
Grant Waivers = "They're Opening The Door To Eliminating The Work Requirement!"
The ad with the man insinuating Romney is responsible for his wife's death was depressing. To use someone's death for political gain is depressing. How low and spiteful can you go Obama campaigners, seriously?? It only reaffirmed how spiteful Obama and his supporters really are, and that is clearly due to being an inadequate thin skinned leader who is in way over his head. He did not disappoint me as I realistically had no expectations for him to begin with(too young and no real experience/work history). I always wondered how odd the timing of his grandmother's death was(to keep true info about his life permanently sealed)but I'm not low enough to make it a national t.v ad.
Terri Lee, are you suggesting the president had his grandmother whacked for political gain? Wow - that's got to be the best conspiracy theory yet! You deserve a padded cell for that one.
Ursula, I am competely sane simply not as naive as you on how this clearly unqualified man became president, but thanks for your concern, lol.
No conspiracy, just odd conincidence, just like the commercial, reaching. I was making a comparison as to how ridiculous it would be to put that theory into an ad. I wouldn't but you could still reach there if you wanted.
Sorry, I have to side with Ursula on this one!
You sound like you're a tea-cup short for the party!
Terri Lee - let me explain it. President Obama ran against McCain/Palin who clearly stated that we had no problem with our economy. Of course Palin had no problem with anything because she frankly has no idea how anything works - you betcha!
And, now the GOP has gone two rungs lower and is running Romney - who also doesn't have a clue as is proved every time he opens his mouth and changes feet. He couldn't hold an opinion long enough to walk to the podium to give a speech - which he usually stumbles through.
President Obama is intelligent; believes in the American people; wants to help the middle class become better; believes everyone should have an opportunity to do great things; loves the country; isn't a buffoon; the list goes on and on and on.....
Now do you understand?
Obama/Biden 2012
By running this ad and helping to get the President reelected will save countless more lives, by keeping the likes of Willard Romney out.
Look, you are obama supporters, I don't expect you to understand logic and reasoning(a fair comparison of the misuse of reaching, that you could not understand), lol.
The same people who four years ago expected miracle changes from a man that never really even had a job, lol. Talk about insane and unrealistic expectations.
If you found this ad depressing, how do you feel about the millions of people who are uninsured in this country because their employers don't offer insurance and they can't afford it on their own? Jeesh.
How qualified is Willard Romney to be President?
We have to remember it is rare that this Nation has ever had a successful business man serve as President. Look at the records of business men such Hoover and Bush that were big failures, which crippled the Nation.
So, the bottom line is Willard had better start giving us the truth and stop the lies.
Terri Lee, just let me know what movie theaters and temples you frequent and I'll steer clear ... you've got some scary ideas!
Ursula, the only thing that scares you is that I have made valid points.
:)
Terri Lee - you've made absolutely NO points. President Obama was a college professor of constitutional law; he practiced law; and he worked in the community. Then he became a State Senator then on to the US Senate.
I am a little surprised that you don't consider a man who was a professor and an attorney of having had a job. And, apparently being a Senator is not having a job. Wow! Lots of State and US Senators will be surprised they don't have jobs. We'll let them know you don't think those are jobs.
You are inept - at best!
Obama/Biden 2012
Good God, where are these people coming from? Terri: were you equally outraged about Palin lying about Death Committees with ACA, or in your narrow little world, was that just fine with you?
And how about the slander against a war hero, Senator Kerry?
What scares Ursula is the same thing that scares me. People like you and the rest of the birthers are out on the street without keepers.
SS, President Obama is intelligent; believes in the American people
Correction - He believes in the Americans that vote for him, and he makes that clear everyday. That is the problem I have with our president.
"You're either with us, or against us" that mentality has got to go.
And they can reproduce!
Which scares the crap out of me!
While Willard wasn't directly responsible for the death of the woman mentioned int he ad but his policies and ideas made it possible.
I had a son-in-law who was a hard working individual and our daughter had a job to help with the bills like so many typical families. They had medical insurance through his employer. Her employer didn't offer insurance as they couldn't afford it and since they were on her husband's insurance it didn't matter so much. Then he got cancer. Because he had to fight the cancer with chemo keeping him from going to work he lost his job and thus the insurance. He passed away due to the cancer and left our daughter 200 thousand dollars in debt. No home, no car, she sold the good ones to pay medical bills and got a clunker to get around. Her church helped a little, and some charities helped a little but she still lost everything. The "Obamacare" act would have made it possible for her to have insurance, he would have been insured and she wouldn't have lost her house and decent car.
I saw the ad in question and thought it a bit powerful but to infer direct relation to Romney may have been too much. However his policies and the ideas of the current Republican/Tea party could be blamed. They had no insurance and couldn't afford to get her the vital treatment she needed to save her life. So indirectly because of Bain closing down the employer where the husband's insurance was they indirectly caused her early demise. She may have died anyway but caught early enough cancer can be stopped and patients can live longer better lives.
So being a College Professor, Lawyer, State Senator Successful Book Author, US Senator and President of the United States is not a real job? That is a pretty dumb statement.
Remember anyone can be a business man, but not President of the United States.
thetotas - your quote "you're either with us or you're against us" is a direct quote of George W. Bush - not President Obama. And, I'll agree - that is certainly NOT the person we want for President - ever again - which is why we aren't voting for Romney! Get it!
Obama/Biden 2012
SS,
Sorry that's how I feel about President Obama, and FYI I didnt like Bush for he same reason.
Capiche?
thetotas - how you feel about him is not a direct quote as you indicated.
Capiche????
Hi Theotas,
On what issues do you believe that Obama is only for Democrats? If you mention his idea to increase taxes on the rich, you do understand that there are Democrats and Republicans that will be affected.
You know there was a time when politicians from both parties worked together on big issues, there were disagreements but more often then not compromises were made. Every person has their right to vote or not vote for who they want to, but seriously what is it that has bothered you about Obama. Don't you think we as a nation could have been in better shape if the GOP had given an inch?
May not be here if you respond, almost time to go. I do agree however the Bush quote and or idea is hurting party politics and as a byproduct people as well.
And they do it rapidly, without abandon, and then home educate them!
And that scares the crap out of me.
Now wait a minute; didn't Obama say that Republicans make big issues out of small things that don't and shouldn't matter?
Didn't he also say that Washington was "broken" and he was going to change the way it does business?
Didn't he also say that he represented "hope" and "change" when he ran for office four years ago?
Well, running the kind of negative campaign that he has these last few weeks shows he isn't any different than anyone who's ever run for political office before now.
What's more, how can he represent "hope" and "change" when he's doing exactly the same things that he accused Republicans of doing in the past?
It just doesn't make sense.
ZMan-
Obama is a different breed of Democrat. He will take the high ground whenever possible, but unlike Gore and Kerry he will not sit around while the other side goes negative.
Romney's VERY FIRST AD set the tone for his campaign, when he used President Obama's words out of context, to make it sound like a McCain quote came from Obama instead. Romney didn't stop there, during the first few months of the campaign his ads were overwhelmngly negative (70%). By contrast President Obama's ads during the same period were almost 70% positive, touting the improved economy and the auto bailout.
Romney didn't present any details, didn't mention his term as governor of MA, just tried to convince everyone that since he was a remarkable businessman and "Not Obama" they should vote for him. Romney discussed every issue by pointing out what Obama did, and saying he would do it differently.
How could President Obama debate the issues when Romney offered no policies or solutions on any of them?
Romney attacked President Obama with lies, distortions, and words taken out of context. President Obama countered by presenting FACTS about the ONLY thing Romney used to justify his candidacy - his business background.
How does that not make sense?
Depressing? For whom? Mitt Romney and his supporters. The only thing depressing was watching the right go ballistic because Romney's team dared mention RomneyCare as a good thing for people.
No offense to First Read but where have they been? Can't imagine that they just now noticed a Romney ad that was out of bounds when he's run more, to use Mitt's words"inaccurate ads", than I've ever seen in a campaign--right or left. And Mitt ran his "out of bounds" ad with "I'm Mitt Romney and I approve this message" at the end. Sorry, but there's no comparing an official Romney ad that is airing (every night during the evening news in my area of Iowa) and one by a SuperPAC that hasn't been aired.
wait until someone says the name of Dubya out loud, they will go nuts again. You would think the guy was Valdemort...
Romney's campaign is tanking because he represents a lot of things the American people don't like. He was born to great wealth but he has no humility. His life's work consisted of destroying American companies and jobs, and shipping those jobs overseas. and profiting obscenely from it. He decries supposedly high tax rates but he doesn't pay taxes, he studiously avoids them. His plan for creating jobs consists solely of having all of us give a huge monetary gift to the tiny minority that is already filthy rich and currently not doing anything to produce jobs for the rest of us poor suckers. And on top of all that, he's the worst flip-flopping sleazy politician in recent memory, a fact so clearly stated by his opponents for the nomination -- and they're all Republicans! So what's not to dislike about Mitt Romney?
SteveR said: Romney's campaign is tanking because he represents a lot of things the American people don't like.
Tell me Steve - where is Romney's campaign tanking? He's been well within the margin of error against an incumbent president since he was declared the presumptive nominee. Sounds to me like liberals are doing nothing but wishful thinking.
His life's work consisted of destroying American companies and jobs, and shipping those jobs overseas. and profiting obscenely from it.
That's all Bain did... destroy companies... is this what you are saying? Maybe you'd better take a look at the companies Bain saved through the years... and how many jobs were fostered because of Bain's efforts... You are drinking too much kool-aid... What about Obama shipping NASA jobs overseas? That's doesn't count in your book?
You're too easy to disprove... dismissed.
Wow never thought conservatives would complain about using private enterprise in lieu of the government. With the space shuttle program having served its 30 year life span it was time for something new. Didn't agree with it but Obama chose to cut NASA funding, probably because he heard the crazed rants from the Tea Party that government spending was too high. Actually the paltry NASA budget is/was miniscule in relationship to military defense spending. Practically everything is miniscule in relationship to defense. Glad to know sequestered cuts will cut that entity equally along with social services as agreed to last year.
___________
Per - USA Today
NASA revealed new agreements with three private spaceflight companies today (Aug. 3) — deals that total $1.1 billion in funding support for new commercial spaceships to launch American astronauts into space.
The new deals represent the final round of NASA's Commercial Crew integrated Capability program (CCiCap), which aims to foster the design and development of new private spaceships to fill the current gap in U.S. human spaceflight capabilities.
The selected companies are:
As part of the new agreements, Sierra Nevada will receive $212.5 million, SpaceX will receive $440 million, and Boeing will receive $460 million. Boeing and SpaceX are developing private space capsules, with Sierra Nevada taking a different path with its winged Dream Chaser space plane design.
"The ultimate goal of our commercial crew program is to bring American space launches right back here to American soil," NASA Chief Charles Bolden said.
NASA retired its 30-year space shuttle program last year and is currently dependent on Russia's Soyuz spacecraft to ferry Americans to the International Space Station....
"Our commercial crew and cargo efforts are based on a simple but powerful principle," Bolden said in a televised announcement. "By investing in American companies and American ingenuity we are spurring commercial companies to deliver more bang for the buck."
_______
Good to hear that american companies will be working with the government and NASA to move forward.
Brian, find a job yet? Evidentally not, based on your "...Obama shipping NASA jobs overseas..." comment
You are truly an idiot. Quit while you're ahead, Brian.
Willard really doesn't have a good record to run on. However, Romney care he should be proud of.
Just ask Andrea Saul, who said, following a former steelworker whose plant was closed by Bain Capital and blaming Willard Romney, who co-founded the firm, for his family's loss of health insurance and his wife's subsequent death from cancer."To that point, if people had been in Massachusetts, under Governor Romney's health-care plan, they would have had health care."
@Job1.......Willard doesn't even know (of course) what he stands for. Poor Ms. Saul has to take the vicious hits while Willard is saying basically the same thing!
www.usdebtclock.org Retire Obama!!!! Take a serious look at that website.
All talk and no action, what does he do all day, really, give me a detailed report of his daily actions to achieve those goals. Thank you.
Terri Lee - no it is Romney who is all talk and no action. He hasn't actually held any job since 2009. Oh, that's right - he keeps running for whatever!
I don't have to give you a detailed report of squat! Our President's schedule is pretty darned public - try to get your brain to function and you can probably find it!
Obama/Biden 2012
I think it is funny how defensive these posts are, there is clearly a problem, you are the ones making it obvious. The president does nothing, besides mostly leisure activities which is all great and dandy, now he is campaigning. The output is relative to the input, and yet you want more of this, lol.
Well, Terri, Obama rolls out of bed at the crack of noon, eats some twinkies with Michelle, plots the overthrow of democracy, plays some golf, attends two fund raisers, panders to yet another socio economic group, takes a nap, then puts on his rambo jammies while michelle tucks him in for the night.
It all contributes to the public welfare, really. Just ask him or any of the uber left posters here. They'll tell you all about it.
Terri Lee - I find it funny how offensive the GOP posters are. But, when you run a candidate that is nothing; offers nothing; I understand it makes it hard for you to do anything but be on the offensive. Romney does absolutely nothing - and then wants to be President.
We have a very good President who has done a good job in spite of the obstructionists in the Republican party hoping he would fail - to hell with the country.
The fact that you don't comprehend this speaks volumes for you - none of it good. I would post the LOL but frankly, you're sad - not funny!
Obama/Biden 2012
The public portion of the Presidents schedule is available on whitehouse.gov, wonder why you can't find it?
Detroit - Terri would actually want to know the truth - which is clearly not her agenda. She'd prefer to spread as many lies as possible.
Obama/Biden 2012
What does President Obama do all day?
You remind me of my Republican co-worker who remarked "oh look, Obama is in Afghanistan, who cares?"
President Obama flew to Colorado to meet with the victims of the theater shooting - who cares?
President Obama stood on BP's neck to insure they paid to clean up the Gulf - who cares?
President Obama authorized a risky raid into Pakistan to kill Osama bin Laden - who cares?
President Obama arranged for the auto bailouts and held car companies accountable, resulting in a re-energized American auto industry - who cares?
President Obama meets with world leaders to address the global economic crisis - who cares?
President Obama manuvered other countries to take the military lead in ousting Qaddafy, to save American lives - who cares?
President Obama tries to compromise with Congress in raising the debt ceiling so our credit rating isn't downgraded - who cares?
The pessimism and obfuscation of the Republican mind is just underwhelming to me. My God, what are you people for? What have Republican leaders ever gotten right?
Hey Terri, the President actually HAS a job - your candidate has been doing NOTHING but campaigning for FIVE years and still can't figure out how that's done and you think a PROFESSIONAL CAMPAIGNER is qualified for exactly what?????
romney ryan the road to ruin...same bush policys=same results..
WHERE ARE THOSE TAX RETURNS??? Today on Geroge Steph program George asked Pawlenty how many years tax returns romney wanted he said several.....lol they were given to romney's people...can't make this up the gop clown car is FULL!!!
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012 Americas Choice!
I heard it was eleven, lol.
Hoops are at noon, lol.
The wife of the individual that appeared in the ad did not die because her husband lost his job, she died because she had cancer.....
The man in the ad lost his job when Mitt and others at Bain decided that those who were negatively impacted by the closing of the plant were merely collateral damage in their war to earn even greater profits.
Capitalism is a great thing when practiced by socially responcible men of conscience. Corporations are not endowed by God and people are not things devoid of rights.
Yeah, you're right. Bain should never have invested in that company. If Bain had not, that poor sap would have lost his job 5 years before he did.
That company was going down, inefficient old steel technology competing in a world market.
But the guy losing his job 5 years ahead of when he did would have been okay with democrats apparently.
mlkboneundrwear-
I thought the company was fairly successful until Bain came in, charged a exorbiant management fee, raided the pension fund to use as collateral to buy another company - then laid off everybody, declared bankruptcy, and walked away with a huge profit.
I might be confusing this company with one of the many others that Bain did that too, though. It's hard to keep them all straight, and nobody at Bain is talking!
The company was profitable, it's why Bain bought it and a number of others like it. Bain then leveraged the profitable firms draining those companies profits and resources to buy other firms and start the bleeding companies dry all over again. There are venture capital firms and vulture capital firms. Bain was a vulture capitalist. They have successes such as Staples but those firms offer low-paying jobs with few, if any, benefits. The profitable firms they bankrupted were high paying jobs with good benefits.
I've read nothing that indicated GST was profitable. In fact, if it hadn't sold to Bain it would have been shut down 5 years before it was. Bain put +$150 mil into the company to try and turn it around. The fact it was old steel making technology competing with world supply doomed it. If you have fact based knowledge that differs from this please share.
The fact that you respond to me so aggressively speaks volumes to me, lol, I am not the type to be intimidated by someone on the internet, and I don't lose debates, lol. Both my father and sister are attorneys and rightfully so, I would want neither as president, well maybe my dad.
The fact that you don't think either your Father or Sister work is amazing. I'm sure they'll be delighted to know that.
Considering how he raised his daughter, I wouldn't want your father for President either - or your sister. To bad you come from a family where no one works for a living!
You lose every debate because you have no facts and your "arguments" have no legs. The LOL just makes you look silly but clearly you don't understand. You couldn't debate a first grader and win.
Obama/Biden 2012
Terri: 32 of the 55 framers of the Constitution were Attorneys. Are you saying that they should have stayed out of the fight to form a government?
Campdog, she did die of cancer. She might not have if they had affordable health care. They had health insurance through her husband's work but when he lost his job, because of Romney led Bain, the insurance went away. Any chance of her getting other insurance would have been nil due to the preexisting condition of the cancer. With him not working it would have been even more difficult to afford insurance. So one can conclude had Bain, led by Mr. Romney, not caused the demise of the husband's job, thus no insurance, they might have been able to save the woman. So, while not directly Romney and his company indirectly exaserbated the situation resulting in the woman's death.
He lost his job because of inefficient steel techonology competing on a world stage. If Romney had not invested in GST, the guy would have been out of work 5 years earlier.
goodness, I could have saved all of you the needless temper tantrums by telling you sooner, that I am an independent.
Have a nice day:)
oh and that most of you really need to get a life;>
puh-leeez lady, talk to the hand
Terri Lee - so am I. That changes nothing and your posts are still mindless pieces or nothing!
And, you'd have to buy a life to actually have one. No one is going to want to be around someone like you who has no substance!
Obama/Biden 2012
Detroit - Terri says she never lost a debate then slithers off. Says a lot about her..... And, sorry, but my guess - she's NO lady!
Ha Ha.......Terry your an Independent? That's the original cop out when one can't defend the indefensible.
All you are is another fence sitter, any principles you may have are compromised....pick a side and defend it as if you believe in it otherwise you're all hat and no cattle.
[Ha Ha.......Terry your an Independent? That's the original cop out when one can't defend the indefensible.]
That's right up there with the "I'm not racist...I have black friends!" comment...
And so Terri slinks off to the netherworld, not gracious in defeat, and unable to defend her point.
But, a legend in her own mind " I never lose debates." The rest of the sentence is "I just take my ball and go home."
No secret today.
Ryan, Romney and their Republican colleagues OPENLY advocate taking funds from the poor, disabled, elderly, retired and sick ~ for the express purpose of shifting $billions to the very wealthy in the form of tax breaks.
Under Mitt Romney's tax plan.
The nonpartisan Tax Policy Center found that Romney's TAX BREAKS FOR MILLIONAIRES would cost us around $86 billion yearly.
But for 95% of Americans who earn less than $200,000 - taxes would be increased.
Under Paul Ryan's plan, austerity for who?
Rep. Ryan (R-WI) also proposes tax cuts heavily skewed to large corporations and the very wealthy:
The Tax Policy Center finds that Ryan's additional tax cuts = $4.6Trillion.
Additionally, both Ryan and Romney want to extend the Bush tax cuts = $5.4 trillion.
TOTAL cost of Ryan's proposal in tax cuts alone = $10 trillion.
While crying about "perils of debt", Paul Ryan gives giant tax breaks to the wealthy and corporations. And like Romney = without conscience, he gouges basic programs like Medicaid, food stamps and Pell Grants to pay for them. The Ryan plan, endoresed by Mitt Romney, puts an even bigger burden on low and middle income earners via lethal blows to Medicare.
RomneyRyan's self-interest extends to giving themselves and their rich friends more $millions with which to buy up our elections, subvert our democracy ~ and install a government that reflects their 'vision' for us of more work for less pay, no safety nets, no environmental protections, no voice and no recourse for ordinary Americans.
Well, Terri Lee, you know what's depressing? A woman died because she had no health insurance. A man lost his wife because Bain Capital bankrupted his employer and took away the family's health insurance. 45,000 Americans die every year because they can't afford health insurance and they don't have the money to go to the doctor on their own. Now, that's depressing.
One more thing, Terri, educate yourself on President Obama's work experience. He has held "real" jobs as you call them. The right-wing lies about President Obama's job experience is both tiresome and proves willful ignorance.
Incidentally, for an independent, you have the right-wing talking points down pat. We respond assertively to comments which show a poster is uninformed.
Not sure how this reply ended up down here except gremlins at work.
Jody, please enlighten me and the rest of America.
What private sector jobs has Obama had?
As if you really want to know this.
Your President worked as an attorney at Sidley and Austin Law Firm, as well as Miner, Barnhill and Galland. He was a professor of law at the University of Chicago.
Now. Get off this kick that your President was on the "dole". You might sound racist.
Is the race card the first one you always play?
I was asking a serious question.
Best defense is a good offense?
I imagine so when you can't defend Obama.
The best defense is truth, which is what I posted.
What's the matter, embarrassed that you got found out, as someone who hates this President for no good reason? Who asks questions that are demeaning, making this man, who has achieved more than YOU could dream of sound like a bum?
So, when did YOU matriculate at Harvard Law? When did YOU edit the Harvard Law Review? When did you achieve Magna Cum Laude status?
I know the answer to that;
NEVER.
Now. I answered your question. Quit trolling about your President.
No, i didn't graduate Harvard, did you?
However, Romney also achieved Cum Laude Status at Harvard, in both Law and Business. Does that automatically make him smarter than Obama?
I personally find Obama to be a child of the left wing 60's and 70's radicals. I leaned toward that side myself (as much as one can be in the midwest), but I realized that government is not all evil, but also does not have many answers either.
It's incumbent on us, not government, if we want this society to work.
I'm just opposed to his belief structure, but do not hate him as a person. I do find his election tactics detestable. That doens't make me a racist.
It's interesting to me that the uber left continues to harp on his Harvard degree. Why...did you not think a black guy could accomplish that?
Perhaps you are the racist after all.
I also think that dangling from the government teat does not prepare you to handle real life situations in the private sector, do you?
Then you don't know my mantra. Scratch a "teabagger" find a racist." I am sick to death of people like you denigrating this man's accomplishments. All I hear from the right are things like "he isn't a citizen" "Obama ever had a REAL job?" "where are his grades?" and the rest, and the implication is that this black man did not achieve what he has through legitimate means.
BASTA!
I have had the great pleasure of walking Harvard grounds many times. When you walk across Harvard Yard, it changes you like almost nothing else can. You can "feel" the greats that walked there, the Roosevelts for example and standing in front of the statue of John Harvard gives you the sense of the beginning of the nation. I posit that MOST THOUGHTFUL PEOPLE cannot be at Harvard without being inculcated with that sense of history and love of country. The motto, Veritas is a lifelong reminder of truth as it relates to life.
Harvard changed one of my cherubs forever.
Obama a child of the 60's and 70's? Really? No. He is a center left President, not nearly as far to the left as I am. This accusation that he is a student of 70's radicals is as insulting as it is absurd. He is NOTHING of that.
Now. I posted President Obama's private sector jobs and you come back with "government teat" again. What makes you do that? But you do know, do you not that in the public sector, one deals with tighter budgets, AND manages people! Someone working in the public sector may have a better background than Romney, who has been handed things his whole life.
RUNNING THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS NOT THE SAME AS RUNNING A CORPORATION.
Sometimes, the uber left, and i'm speaking specifically to you Newday, are like a sociology experiment gone horribly wrong.
Then you have no idea what you are talking about, and you did not ask a serious question to begin with.
Look, it would be far simpler for you to just admit the truth. " I hate this President because he has a funny sounding name, I'm not comfortable with his ethnicity", ("or I am a big old bigot", whichever is closest) but don't pretend that you have serious policy concerns.
You don't.
Good grief.
