DENVER, Colo. – Sen. Rob Portman, R-OH, visited Colorado Wednesday hoping to create a clear contrast between the GOP and President Barack Obama. And in front of a famed Obama backdrop, that difference looked as clear as it sounded.
The Ohio senator hopped out of a Mitt Romney campaign bus parked near the football stadium where, in 2008, then-candidate Obama delivered a rousing address before tens of thousands of emphatic supporters. Portman, however, addressed just 50 supporters in the unpaved parking lot outside Sports Authority Field.
"Four years ago this month, at the stadium right behind us, Barack Obama gave an interesting speech, didn't he?" Portman said. He picked apart Obama's speech, listing promises the president made about the economy and jobs that Portman said he hasn’t kept. Portman also noted the development of clean coal technologies and U.S. energy resources like natural gas and oil as failures.
"He said, you know, elect me and I'm going to bring people together to solve big problems. Has he done that? No he hasn't, sadly he has not," Portman said.
Another difference in setting that he pointed out was the absence of the Greek pillars that stood behind Obama during his convention speech, a visual that has become a Republican talking point since Greece's economic chaos of recent years.
"I expected to have the Parthenon behind me or something, whatever he had that day," Portman joked.
Portman's visit to the site of the 2008 Democratic National Convention was just one of five stops he made in the Centennial State on Wednesday, the same day Obama made campaign stops throughout the state.
And though the low-key potential vice presidential contender did not match the crowd size or attention as the president’s stop, he did have some boasting rights about a new poll that shows Romney ahead of Obama in this critical swing state.
Romney holds a tight lead over Obama in Colorado, according to a recently released Quinnipiac/New York Times/CBS News poll.
"Guess what's going to welcome President Obama to Colorado as he lands here this morning? Some new poll numbers out ... showing that Mitt Romney is ahead by five points in Colorado," Portman said during the day's first stop at a gas station in Johnston, Colo. "So look, they've outspent us but they cannot outwork us, right?"
Although the Buckeye State senator has remained mum on whether he wants or plans to join the national ticket, his schedule of late has been as busy as what one might expect from a national candidate. He raised more than $500,000 for Romney in his home state of Ohio during fundraisers on Monday and Tuesday, a dollar amount he today said was a "lowball" estimate. And, with the presumptive nominee's deep bench of surrogates, it was Portman who got the call to bracket the president in the important swing state.
But also on display during the senator's trip here was how unknown he is. At Johnson's Corner truck stop, onlookers eating breakfast or filling up on gas saw the large bus emblazoned with Romney's name and wanted to know if the candidate was onboard. When told it was Portman, several admitted they were unfamiliar with the name.
Portman’s trip was half bracketing and half rallying the troops on his own side of the aisle. Portman visited three Romney Victory Centers where he made phone calls and greeted volunteers and staffers. He used his experience as a politician in a swing state to motivate the grassroots effort. He told a gathering of Romney supporters in Jefferson County that their work could determine the outcome of the election, and with it, the fate of the country.
"As goes JeffCo, so goes Colorado. As goes Colorado, so goes the nation," Portman said.

Sorry Portman, you will not be picked for VP. You are a Senator and the GOP needs you in the Senate.
It will be T. Pawlenty.
His coming out party will be a fundraiser Romney has scheduled in MN on August23 just four days before the convention!!
Norm Coleman and old Rudy B. will be hosting.
That is my prediction and I am sticking to it.
Heck anybody can do that. Republican'ts= rich , greedy right wing nut case pro business and corporations while caring nothing about the average and middle class over the top 1%, pro war and pro military, pro profits and moving us so far to the right we will have to rename it the American Nazi Party!
you need to look up the nazi's political ideas and compare them to the dems. you will be amazed how similar they are. government control of everything and everybody with no individual freedom.
wrong
Like telling folks who they can marry, and sticking wands in our wives uteruses?
What a completely ridiculous and totally backwards comment/
Jims,
I have taught about them for 37 years. Including the Nazi's running fake Democrats like the republicans did in Wisconsin, Like changing political contribution laws like the Robert's court has done to make it possible to buy elections, to offer businesses and corporations loans, grants and give ways to get their support like Hitler did in Germany to create his war machine, changing voter laws to include ID's that were then used against selected voting blocks. You need to face reality the republicans are leading us to the same fate as Germany and we have been in a constant state of war due to GW bush now for 12 years and counting. Stop listening to the FOX rag and Murdocks right wing Nazi propaganda!
It will be the death knell of this campaign to put another old white guy on the ticket. He would be better off with Rubio. Somebody on this ticket has to have likeability and it doesn't matter if Rubio outshines him . If they win, Romney is still top dog. As for Rubio being a speaker at the convention, that doesn't matter. Rules are made to be broken. If I were Rubio I might turn it down but that's just me.
Pathetic liberal. liars are out in force today. Liberals are today's Nazi's. They want to control what you eat, what you drink, what you drive, what you learn, where you live, basically your entire life. Liberals are fascists. By definition conservatives are anti fascist. Fascism requires a strong overbearing central government, that's a liberal trait, not a conservative one.
Who cares about Mitt Romney or Barack Obama. Obama is just a Liar who will move America torwards a socialist state. Mitt Romney will sell jobs over seas. WAKE UP AMERICA!!! Your government is lying to you.
CHEAMTRAILS ARE REAL PROOF!

let's see:
Hitler was an extremist leaning very to the right.
The Nazi rationale was heavily invested in the militarist belief that great nations grow from military power.
Hitler extended his rationalizations into religious doctrine, claiming that those who agreed with and taught his "truths," were "true" or "master" religions.
Hitler saw democracy as a destabilizing force, because it placed power in the hands of ethnic minorities, who he claimed had incentives to further "weaken and destabilize" the Empire.
Nazism promoted an economic system that supported a stratified economy with classes based on merit and talent but rejected universal egalitarianism.
The Nazis outlawed strikes by employees and because they were regarded a threat to national unity.
So how do Republicans compare to Nazis?

I highlighted the good parts for you.
Getting together and having a real laugh-in about how "we f@#ked this economy up so bad and blocked so well" that many Obama "promises" remain open... what a pathetic crowd.
When you can legitimately explained what happened to our economy and why you blocked every effort to recover it in a way that isn't just a self-fulfilling power play, then maybe some of us disenfranchised Republicans will start listening again.
Until then, I'm pretty sure we have you and your Tea Party hijackers figured out...
Val,. Phil,
Everything I mentioned has been done already by republicans in the state of Wisconsin. Tell me which one is a lie?
I forgot the suit against the state republican party for its gerrymandering the boundaries and the e-mails that they specifically say the reasons for the changes which are out and out greed for Power.
Baylite,
It sounds like the New Republican Nazi Party to me!
It's pretty simple.
T-O-P = Bad
Obama = Good
There you have it.

Obviously, the Republican Party is not anywhere near the extreme Nazi Party (for obvious reasons) but I do think the similarities are scary.
Since Ohio would almost assure Romney of victory in November, I'd say that Portman would be a good choice for VP.
His background would focus attention on the most important issue - the ECONOMY.
bayllie
The similarities between Fascism and the Democratic Party are scary, aren't they? Especially how they want the central government to control all aspects of people's lives.
I think portman was bush's economic advisor, you want to go down that road again???fasten your seat belts folks, cause its not the fall over the cliff thats going to be uncomfortable, but the sudden stop is really going to hurt!!!!!!
The Democrats are people who will always abuse their powers, lie about everything, have unconstitutional mandates (like Obama Care, you sheeple need to realize the supreme court ruled something that is unconstitutional to be constitutional, 1776-2012, the end of free America) and move America torwards a poor, Socialist (Not good Socialism) state. Republicans are greedy, war mongers who also will sell jobs over seas. Democrats and Republicans are the Same thing, they both want to destroy America, just in different ways. Get off Facebook, stop watching 3-6 hours of television a day, stop drinking tap water which contains Fluoride (Studies show that Fluoride lowers people's IQ's, everyone taking Fluoride pills I've ever known, had strange health issues such as: ADHD, Learning disabilities, other stranges things likes one leg being smaller than the other. It's banned all over Europe), Stop eating GMO food, trust me, you'll feel better, look better, and think better.
Portman blames Obama and the dems for the economy. I blame the repubs for not being team players. Colorado needs to join the tough rightous fight Obama has been fighting, not the easy phony fight Portman's party has been. Simple math and clearly obvious to those not self polarized to ignorance.
bayllie,
Like, give the party time. I voted for Nixon, Goldwater and Reagan before and today they would be considered liberals in the party of NO> The similarities are very close and getting worse. Being blind to the facts I've given shows that there is a danger to those who cannot see!
The events so far show which direction the New republican Nazi Party is taking us! Add to that the words of Bachmann and Pathetic Palin and you have your mouth pieces.
The Nazi's started out small just like the republicans are.
ROY WILSON-336103
don't just say it -show me the similarities.
You mean like the Republicans? Who since 2010 instroduced:
44 Bills..........on Abortion
99 Bills..........on Religion
71 Bills .........on Family Relationships
36 Bills..........on Marriage
67 Bills..........on Firearms/Gun Control
522 Bills........on Lowering Corporate Tax
445 Bills........on Government Investigations
(credit goes to Pat Boston MA)
Is that the kind of gov. control you are talking about, Roy?
Pot-man pitched some nice lines for the crazy right but I doubt if he ever checked for the meaning of team play. Yes Obama made promises, some realized while some did not. How about Pot-man looking himself in the mirror? Believe me, he'll get some good answers if he's truthful enough. GOP MY WAY OR NO WAY PARTY IS THE PROBLEM.

I do agree- the Republican ideology is starting to mirror the Nazi/fascist ideology. I do however want to make it clear that I am not associating the Republican Party with the Nazi massacres and atrocities of World War II in any way, shape or form. That's not even being considered.
I do, however, have a huge issue with the Tea Partiers who use a picture of president Obama with a Hitler mustache. I find it offensive, disgusting and disrespectful to the victims of the Nazi genocide.
bayllie
If you really believe that the Republicans want big government control of our lives and the Democrats want small government with no 'mandates', then I suppose that you also believe white is black and black is white.
If you cannot see the obvious, then you are a hopeless partisan.
Portman has ghosts in his hotel. The GOP has skeletons in their closet. And all of them have bats in the belfry.
Why don't the Republicans claim bragging rights and just say "We STOPPED President Obama" from keeping his promises"?
And Republicans claiming "clean coal technologies and natural gas" are failures ought to show you that Republicans have a hard time distinguishing "good" from "bad" and "right" from "wrong".
I can't believe some folks are actually buying into MORE tax cuts for the rich are better than affordable health care for all Americans. Either way, Republicans are going to spend that money designated for Obamacare, the only difference is Republicans love to spend money on those who don't need it, and tax the people who can least afford it.

So again, show me how the Democrats are regulating YOUR life, and show me how the Democrats have increased the size of our government. I'm not a mind reader, Roy, and your posts are useless.
bayllie "ROY WILSON-336103 says 'If you really believe that the Republicans want big government control of our lives and the Democrats want small government with no 'mandates', then I suppose that you also believe white is black and black is white.' In a word - "Obamacare".
As a former YR, many years ago, I do not recognize my former party. it is so far to the right that i just have to make all the factual comparisons to the slow rise of the Nazi party back in 1929. we are headed that way and if the teabuggers continue to kidnap my former party we will get there! Beware the Military Industrial complex!" ( That famous and great republican president- Ike!)
Roy Wilson,
Your brain has been filled with a lot of FOX Limburger Cheese. Lies and do you really think FOX is fair and balanced? I watched again this morning and laughed as story after story had on, "It may be", "I think", "some people say," "Reports are." Murdock rag information and sources of "Unfair and blanced Lies!".
Roy,
that's all you got? So how do you explain:
Titled the "Health Equity and Access Reform Today Act of 1993," it had 21 co-sponsors, including two Democrats (Sens. Boren and Kerrey). The bill, which was not debated or voted upon, was an alternative to President Bill Clinton's plan. It bears similarity to the Democratic bill passed by the Senate Dec. 24, 2009, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
Title I: Basic Reforms to Expand Access to Health Insurance Coverage and to Ensure Universal Coverage - Subtitle A: Universal Access - Provides access to health insurance coverage under a qualified health plan for every citizen and lawful permanent resident of the United States.
(Sec. 1004) Requires each employer to make available, either directly, through a purchasing group, or otherwise, enrollment in a qualified health plan to each eligible employee.
Subtitle F: Universal Coverage - Requires each citizen or lawful permanent resident to be covered under a qualified health plan or equivalent health care program by January 1, 2005. Provides an exception for any individual who is opposed for religious reasons to health plan coverage, including those who rely on healing using spiritual means through prayer alone.
I won't copy the entire plan. You can read it if you wish:
http://www.kaiserhealthnews.org/stories/2010/february/23/gop-1993-health-reform-bill.aspx
But the point is that the "ObamaCare" and the individual mandate was originally a Republican idea.
Romney, Gingrich and many other Republicans were FOR IT before they were against it.
So your claim that Republicans are for a smaller government, is OUT THE WINDOW
next
Stark contrasts my alabaster backside. Both are liars, both are bought & paid for corporate prostitutes and both believe, the key to good leadership is having someone to blame. Just like this thread, both candidates are arguing semantics and niether is going to do anything but talk. It's the (new & improved) American way.
The Nazis were rightwing wackos just like the crazy teabaggers we have in Congress !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, right. Because everyone is still confused by the similarities, right? Sheesh, that statement is sort of like saying he's trying to draw a clear contrast between Joseph McCarthy and Mother Teresa. I think we may have already noticed the differences, you?
bayllie "Roy, In a word - "Obamacare"...........that's all you got?"
That's all I need - Obama just took over one-seventh of the economy and gets to dictate what we can and cannot do for health care.
By the way - If you need more, Bush cut the Federal civilian workforce by 5% from what it averaged under Clinton, and Obama has raised it right back by by 5%. Also, under Obama, the Federal government expended its spending by 18% in his first year in office (2009). I'm sure you will try to 'Blame Bush' for that, but unfortunately, the Democrats never gave Bush a Budget for fiscal 2009 to sign or veto, so Bush only allowed spending for 2009 at the same level as for 2008 with a continuing resolution (see link below for proof). Virtually ALL of that huge $535 Billion increase for 2009 under Obama was by the Democrats.
https://www.aamc.org/advocacy/washhigh/highlights2008/159056/president_signs_spending_bill.html
Trying to 'blame Bush' for the huge increase in the 2009 Deficit is just one more example of Obama & Company trying to shift the blame for their failures.
Roy, don't you mean Romneycare?
ROY WILSON-336103
So you will not accept that the Republicans came up with ObamaCare to control your life???
how about all these:
44 Bills..........on Abortion
99 Bills..........on Religion
71 Bills .........on Family Relationships
36 Bills..........on Marriage
67 Bills..........on Firearms/Gun Control
522 Bills........on Lowering Corporate Tax
445 Bills........on Government Investigations
because you don't have a vagina or are not gay or are not a believer in a non-Christian religion, you don't care about those bills that Republicans impose on other people's lives?
The number of federal employees grew by 123,000, or 6.2%, under President Obama but much of the hiring increases came in the departments of homeland security, justice, veterans and defense.
The federal payroll has been expanding since President Bush took office, after declining during the Clinton administration - so your calim is untrue.

the rest of your post is just a smoke screen to deflect from the original topic of our discussion: how the Dems are controling YOUR life.
Untill you come up with a solid difference between Republicans and Democrats in that aspect, don't change the subject.
Roy, You are hopelessly lost in the right wing brainwashing of the Murdock RAG!!
Harl60 "Roy, don't you mean Romneycare?"
No. I have no problem with any State that wants to pass a medical care law - that's their prerogative under State's Rights. And a State can change it very easily if it does not work out as intended. If I lived in Massachusetts and didn't like their law, I could move to another State.
That's completely different from having the Federal government dictate a 'One size fits all' mandate and force ALL States and all of their citizens to comply, enforced by the Internal Revenue Service.
clwyd-2621393 "Roy, You are hopelessly lost in the right wing brainwashing of the Murdock RAG!!"
How novel - using personal attacks instead of a well reasoned response. Obviously, you must be a liberal Democrat.
Harl60
I live in the "RomneyCare" land where each year I have to prove to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that I have health insurance. But Roy refuses to accept the fact that "ObamaCare" is based on Republican ideas that were put on paper way before Romney came up with his version or suggested to President Obama to model his health care reform after.....ROMNEYCARE.
During his 1994 bid to unseat Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Romney supported the Senate Republicans’ alternative to President Bill Clinton’s health care initiative(cited in my posts above). The centerpiece of that proposal was an individual mandate which Romney said was “a terrific idea.”
Romney was for the individual mandate for decades now until 2012 because in 2012 being against it scores Romney brownie points with the conservatives.
bayllie
The OBVIOUS flaw in the article that you linked is the assumption that Bush approved the 2009 spending Budget, when that is obviously false, as shown by the link I gave you. I will repeat it below - the TRUTH is that Bush did not approve any spending increase for 2009 - it was all Obama and the Democratic Congress - signed by Obama about 6 weeks after he took office;
https://www.aamc.org/advocacy/washhigh/highlights2008/159056/president_signs_spending_bill.html
All in all as an Independent I see the GOP has wanting to control our lives morally and the Democrats wanting to control our lives economically not sure which is the lesser of two evils. But, since I have always had a job and have been smart enough to save and not be dependant on anyone, especially the government, I'm not impressed with the GOPs agenda to focus on moral issues. That makes it an easier choice for me....
Both parties are messed up. There is not one clear choice. I ask everyone to go out and think for themselves. Which party would be better? Do your own research and do not rely on any one news network or any one political claim or source. Look at both sides. Do not even take my word.
If you want my opinion though I think that Mr. Obama and the democrat party does want to control my beliefs, my personal choices, and everything about my life (health care, diet, weather I want to support birth control, abortion, how I pay for school or if I go to school, ect.) The republican party is not much better but I think they are more for personal choice. Especially if you want to choose to be a christian, support traditional marriage, or just live my life the best way I see fit while allowing others to do the same.
Liberals seem to think that whatever they believe everyone should believe and there should be a law to make them believe if they do not. The right for the most part will say if you do not believe as I do, that is ok. You have your rights but let me have mine.
rg I can't agree with your take on Liberals believing that what they believe, everyone else should beleive the same. I see the conservatives as a closer fit to that. The proof to me is the fact that the Republican Congress is more concerned about abortion and the protection of Christian rights, while demonizing those that don't agree or are not Christian. You said yourself that the Republican party is more suited for you if you are Christian, well what if your not? They certainly don't make non-christians feel welcome.
Roy,
so you give me the link to the Association to American Medical Colleges to prove this above statement? Where do you get your physical exams, the DMV?
BTW, where in this 'smoking gun' of yours does it state that Bush didn't apporve any spending increases? I see "signs spending bill, " I see "The bill also includes the full FY 2009 spending bills for defense, homeland security, and military construction-VA, including increases over FY 2008 for VA medical care and VA research, I see that Bush was "disappointed" but I don't see anywhere that states that Bush didn't approve anything.
Roy, If you read my posts they are factual and based on the truth rather than so many of your generalizations abased on nothing. I was a Young republican for years, but now I'm a heck of a lot older and wiser. I'm a reformed republican who has promised to never vote for anyone in my former party again after the turn to the right that has placed it on the wrong path to Nazism. read my past post and I think I site 6 specific similarities to how the Nazi's started out in 1929 and the same things the republicans have done in 2012. Yes, I'm a survivor of German Nazi oppression so I think I know what I'm talking about.
Ich bin Deutsch and hate "Sieg Heil! gehoren!
I don't want to hear "Sieg GOP!"
Harl60,
You can believe in anything you want and be a republican. Yes some do not like it but still they say you have your right to believe whatever you want. The democrates on the other hand say if you do not support birth control for everyone at the expense of the tax payer, the right to not support any health insurance companies, or anything that goes against the liberal democrates then there needs to be a law to force you to. Thats how I see it.
rg,
I respectfully disagree. I really don't believe the tax payer will be on the hook for birth control, but if they are, I'd rather pay for birth control than wars we should not be fighting. We do have an overpopulation problem, and too many people having children they can't aford. To me, better to have birth control than Abortion and better not having children if you can't support them.
BTW rg, try being around Republicans that know your not christian, you'll see that you can not be Republican and believe anything you want.
Harl60
I agree 100% and will add that I will pay for birth control because birth control is so much cheaper than kids.
GOP dos not want birth control - it offends them for whatever reason - but they want to cut education, medicaid and welfare. So have a kid but we don't want to have anything do do with 'IT' after it's born...
rgmoon
who is forcing birth control down your throat??? Are you forced to fill your birth control prescription every month???? Do you even know that birth control pills are a mean for many women to pevent things that are not pregnancy related?
So true bayllie, not sure why they can't see that. I know way too many people that had children too soon and started out their young lives in the hole because of children, and they have never been able to dig themselves out.
It really doesn't matter much if you've seen the latest FOX Poll. Obama now up by 9% and climbing from 4% last month. It is all up hill from here for Obama and down hill for the teabuggers who will drag the new republican party to their doom! Bye, bye Mittens!

"Fair and Balanced" yesterday had 95% of their news and talk slanted against the left and about as far right as possible. One speaking suggesting those who disagree should move to somewhere else rather than make things better or question the Murdock rag! Ij ust laugh at how stupid people are to allow themselves to be dumbed down so much!
Dexter-morgan "funny.....nate silver still has colorado in the obama column"
There are lots of pollsters out there, each with differing opinions, but it's too early to have any reliable estimates - things will start to settle in place after the conventions.
Here are a few key points to consider when making estimates though;
1 - Polls of Likely Voters are the most accurate (all major pollsters switch to Likely Voters just before an election). Polls of Registered Voters are skewed to Democrats by about 4% - See link below for explanation.
2 - History shows that most of the 'Undecided Voters' break for the challenger (Romney in this case) by anywhere from 65% to 85%. Most pollsters use about 75% in their final estimates.
These two factors project a very close race, with Romney slightly ahead. Using the Realclearpolitics average of Likely Voters, it shows Romney with 279 Electoral Votes to 259 for Obama.

TO: Dexter-morgan who wrote:

Dexter-morgan
One other point to keep in mind when reviewing polls is a rather disturbing trend with certain pollsters recently. Both Gallup and Rasmussen conduct surveys of 'Party Affiliation' (Which Party do you associate with), and they both agree that the percentage of Republicans (35%) and Democrats (34%) are essentially equal, with the balance calling themselves Independent (31%).
The problem is that some recent polls (NBC/WSJ, NPR, PEW) have released polls that include nearly 50% more Democrats than Republicans in their sample, which naturally creates an artificial boost to Obama of perhaps 10% because exit polls show that voters typically vote 'Party Line' by about 90%.
In each case, the bias is in favor of Obama - which raises questions about the reliability of their polling, as well as perhaps blatant bias.
The only "poll" that really counts is the one that will be taken the first Tuesday in November: the election. Conjectures about "who's ahead" or "who's behind" or "who's gaining or lagging" are, perhaps, interesting but of no real significance.
A more useful forum would focus on the candidates themselves, what they say they would like to accomplish, the likelihood of their being able to accomplish any of it, and even, the credibility of the candidate making the promise.
Given the gridlock in Congress, the wide chasm between their opposing points of view and, especially, of the intransigence exhibited during this last congressional term, it is difficult to see how either will be able to accomplish much, and it is my view that we need a new Congress much more than we need a new President.
But I do think we need to be as certain as we can about the character of the person we elect, and it will be a lot easier to do that if we can just jettison the insulting rhetoric that permeates this and almost every other blog.
I think it hilarious how people love to bag on Fox. Until Fox, there were no alternative to the traditional left wing media and the reality is more people view Fox than MSNBC and CNN combined. Heck, yesterday on the front page of MSNBC you could click on a link to wish Obama a happy birthday...that is what this website has come to.....an harm of the Obama election campaign.
getteright,
So you admit that FOX's claim to be "Fair and Balanced" is really far fetched?
FOX reports on issues that do not always make the conservatives look brilliant. NBC however, simply ignores stories that do not make Obama look good.
How about Fast and Furious?
How about the security leaks to the press?
How about just yesterday when Holder's justice dept announced they would not prosecute Goldman Sachs for their part in the financial meltdown.
Also yesterday, how about the fact that Stephanie Cutter, one of Obama's spokes people was caught in a lie regarding the abominable super PAC ad that blamed Mitt Romney for some woman's death from cancer.
None of this kind of stuff is ever given in depth coverage by NBC. It's ignored by the leftist press who has taken it upon themselves to determine what is OK for the masses to hear.
I say, report it all and let the public decide what is relevant and what is not. That is what a free press is supposed to do, not schill for Obama.
Colorado is not that important, if Romney losses Florida, he can't win, Obama just needs to hold what he has and take Florida and he has the electoral votes. Romney on the other hand has to run the table. Obama can take Ohio and just about any other state and win but Romney can't win without Florida unless he flips some blue states and I don't see that happening, the toss up states are mostly trending blue, in spite of Colorado. Never the less democrats should work hard to get out their vote even if you are in a red state, make sure you get the democrats out there to vote folks.
Colorado is important because Romney wins Florida. He will also win Ohio. Pennsylvania will be closer, but will go to Romney.
Actually, only the bluest of the blue will go to Obama. Let me be the first to tell you to get used to this description, "Reaganesque". You'll be hearing it a lot come November.
conservative,
"If wishes were horses, beggars would ride."
Romney is stagnant and going nowhere fast.
But maybe your guy will find his message about what he will do, so far he has not said anything of value.
Mittens, we will not accept your refusal to bring forth your past tax returns. Why are you so afraid to expose them to those whom you wish to vote for you? You wish us to trust you on your honor? You earned money disposing of aborted fetuses, yet you say it is wrong for any woman to choose to have an abortion. Kind of a basic contradiction there Mittens. You believe we are fools don't you Mittens? Some of us are, as you think, but not enough to elect you. You, "Mittens Romney" are a Thief and a Liar. Show us your tax returns Mittens. Tell us of your involvement with certain banks that received bailout money. Tell us how much money you received. How did you come by receiving it? How much did you receive? We are waiting Mittens. I think you are too afraid to reveal anything. Afraid you will be found to be a felonious thief and liar.
Where are Obama's college transcripts? How does he explain gettin aid as a foreign student? When will he release the damning fast and furious documentation?
Oh Phil- get a life - who the hell cares about college transcripts
Let's take McCains second from the bottom - let's take Rush Limbaugh your leader flunked out - let's take - wait - what was Donald Trump's College transcipts - or did he really graduate?
Next Boehner's - McConnel's deferments - next let's go to the Weasel Eric Cantor
And most of all Sarah - the Queen of the mean - multiple colleges - did she really graduate from any school? We know her husband was a drop out and ran the Government of Alaska
So cut the crap - not a one of your hero's graduated with honors
And probably not you - where did you drop out of if ever?
Just getting into Harvard puts him in a class above most of us. I do not want my college records to go public because that is my business and not done by politicians. However, the usual thing is 4-10 years for a politician to release their tax records. Of course, when the person has offshore accounts and income it wouldn't show up there in the first place. Mitt won't release his, except for two years! We know he is worth $250 to $300 million. With his offshore accounts it is probably more in the Billions. I know I would never spend $200,000 to put an elevator in one of my five houses so my car can be raised and lowered.
Just the kind of man who is touch with reality, besides being a member of a religious cult.
TO: Conservative Rebellion who wrote:
Yes, Colorado is important, so is every state in the union, but it's not likely Colorado would go to Romney -- It's too Blue!
There's no way Romney can win Florida because Romney has signed on to the Ryan Plan which hurts seniors to severely, and Romney can't win Ohio either, I know because I'm from Ohio.
4 More for 44!
Obama/Biden 2012
Not that blue girl. And I'm fairly certain more than one person votes in Ohio. After all, you didn't vote for Kasich. Right?
You see Barbara, we know all of that because those folks released their transcripts.
A virtually unknown presidential candidate in Virginia could derail Mitt Romney’s bid for president. But how rare is it for a third-party candidate to influence a race for president?
Currently, Virgil Goode, a candidate running in Virginia, has about 9 percent of the projected vote in the upcoming November election, according to polling data.
In Palm Springs - the Republican party is trying like heck to get this guy - hope they don't win
Even JC himself couldn't bring people together if the day he rode into Jerusalem the opposition party gathered for dinner with their pollster and decided on a concerted strategy to oppose everything he said. It would be harder still if the opposition immediately send out all the scribes to post fliers on every corner alleging that JC wasn't really Jewish. Then they would all say in unison, see he can't bring people together.
Where is Romney today?
In Iowa, not Colorado.
He is outsourcing his campaign with all these surrogates.
Portman in Colorado, Pawlenty in Michigan.
Romney just cannot get his act together and the days are slipping by.
Before you know it will be debate time, and Romney cannot outsource those events.
Can't fault the guy for sticking to his strengths, and outsourcing is Rmoney's strength
We the corporations,
You call it a strength.
I call it his Achilles heel.
(Who's secret identity is really the mild mannered Mitt Romney. But don't tell anyone!)
More liberal lies. Obama is the outsourcer king by far. Even his own jobs czar closed divisions and shipped them to China.
So what did Obama do to GM?
1. Take out massive restructuring loans, (GM still owes TARP over $28 billion).
2. Raid the taxpayer fund, (that's right you paid for union a holes).
3. File bankruptcy
4. Keep all the money, (how many shares of stock do we still owe?)
5. Chop up and close down US plantes while opening new ones in Mexico and China
6. Shipped those jobs to Mexico and China.
Vulture man in the white house has been doing it with tax payer money.
Its obvious you are walking on your head.
What are Mitts strengths? " I like to fire people!" "Off shore accounts" "I will create jobs", but not one, not one part of his plan released? "the Gaffe king?"
This is the reason the left and Obama can't fix our economy. They don't understand it. And they don't understand business.
The don't understand the importance of venture capitalism. They don't understand that their socialistic tendencies sap the strength of any economy. They dont understand how voluminous pages of nonsensical regulations strangle business and job creation. They seemingly dont understand any of the principles that run our economy.
Never thought I'd say it - I sorta miss Bill Clinton. He at least seemed to grasp a few basic economic issues
Unbelievable how the GOP continue to accuse president Obama for making the country divisive when it was Mitch McConnell who was the first to make the divisive move by making a vow to not work with this president and make him a one term president before the president could finish his oath. The GOP continue to say that but let's see who will attend their RNC in comparison to who will attend the DNC. Willing to bet anyone the divisiveness will be at the RNC. Dems have never been divisive.
Yup. The TP is destroying the GOP. All the right wing radicals are talking about who in the GOP will be targeted next. If you are not a TP purist with a signed pledge to Grover you may be the next target. No moderates will be allowed in the new GOP.
More pathetic lies. McConnell did that after two years of being spat on by democrats. Republicans openly ran on making Obama a one term president and won the biggest victory in 70 years. What does that tell you!
"Dems have never been divisive." What an idiotic lie that one is. What has Reid been running off at the mouth about all week?!!?
The Tea Party is main stream, just because you liberal lemmings only believe what your handlers tell you doesn't make it true. It is the left that are radical fascists. There's no moderation allowed in the democrat party. Either you are a fascist, a socialist, or an outcast.
And another fascist lie, no one signed a pledge to Grover, they signed a pledge to the American people.
Phil....That pledge is to Grover. If you dont sign it you WILL be targeted by his minions.
I am from Ohio. Mr. Portman has done nothing for this state but promote Romney. Where are the jobs he promised? On the other hand our other senator, Sherrod Brown seems to be working hard. At least he tries to do something for Ohio. While Brown serves Ohio, Portman serves Romney.
pibs - If I were thirty years younger I would fall in love with Sherrod Brown - my hero and if the electorate doesn't realize this - then they should burn in hell
pibs,
You would think your senator Portman would at least stay home during his recess from the Senate. Ohio is paying his salary.
Thanks for your update from Ohio.
A Republican lying about Obama, the Democrats and the reasons the economy is the way it is today. What a shock! It is impossible for Republicans to tell the truth about what they have done because people would have them run out of town!
Actually, you are in denial about Obama and the reason the economy is the way it is today. It is impossible for the democrats to accept the truth.
It is the republican way. Underlings, such as Senators, Representatives etc. shall first serve the whims of their leader. Next, in unison, republicans enact legislation, and policy prescribed by those from whom they derive monetary support, their masters, always to the benefit,of those Masters. The Egalitarian citizenry are to be used, and/or abused as the commodities they are, absent any source of recourse, as the Masters so decree and see fit. This is, and always has been the festering intent of republicanism.
And another pathetic liberal liar chimes in. It is democrats that use people. Divide and conquer is their game.
Obama had his 200th fund raiser last week, that is more than the last five presidents combined. If you think it's the little people attending all those $40,000/plate dinners you are truly delusional.
lakerman - The Republicans have aways lied - and the Democrats sat idly by and let them - no more - call them out every chance you get
The gloves are off - read these posts all Faux Entertainment talking points - over and over
Like Judas goats to the slaughter
Portman, you are just a tool for Romney! Too bad you are not enough of an Obama hater. The tea Party may endorse you, but you are far to liberal for them to embrace. You must run to a cliff, like a lemming, and jump off, before you shall be considered! You must call Obama the worst President in over a decade and really mean it before you will be cornsidered. And Romney is in Iowa, trying to sell his prancing horsie today, so he can write off all of the trip expenses on his next tax report forms. Don't worry! Your job in the Senate, where all you have to say is "No!" is safe.....
And more liberal lies. Guess what, youd not get to dictate what we will and will not accept. Sorry, we won't submit to your fascism.
Phil does your mom know you are on the computer again. Or I see you in your trailer with no job and the KKK posters on the wall. You probably have never had a job in your life and if you ever had a wife or girl friend she left you cause she got some of those "liberal ideas". The republicans used to be the party of less govt. TSA and the entire "War on Terror" changed that. Look at the Republican leadership demand the military spend money on projects the military neither needs or wants. Then the Christian Taliban took over the party and now the "Grand Olde Party" tells a woman what she can or can not do with their bodies. Maybe the liberals are communists but facism I think needs to be saved for the Republicans. They are all pond scum, Portman can't even carry his own state and he is one of these Republican Taliban and the most amazing thing about Romney is he can stand up straight not having a back bone and all. As for you Phil get off you fat useless a$$$ and go get a job, I am tired of having to pay for useless parasites like you either from the right or the left.
Jack,
So that is why Romney is in Iowa.
Do rich iowa farmers really like dressage horses??
Who would of thought.
Have a great evening.
Mitt's song.
You're soo "Bain".....I bet you think it's about your taxes - you're soo "Bain"....I bet you think it's about your taxes. Don't you? Don't you?
You hired me several years ago When I was still quite naive
Well, you said that I did such a great d a m n jobAnd that you would never let me leave
But you gave away the things I lovedAnd one of them was my job
I had some dreams they were drugs in your coffeedrugs in your coffee, and
SING EVERYBODY!
You're soo "Bain"...............
I kinda like that. Repubs will never be clever. Meanwhile, Portman did make the comment he has to sell Ohio on Romney. Since when does an elected official get to dictate what his constituents or actually, "employers" want? That's the republican representation.
Larry,
One of my favorite songs.
Love the new lyrics.
Great new song. Do you think Carly would consider signing it in a commercial? RFLOL
How many more lies will the Obama campaign spew out? I notice they certainly don't want to run on Obama's record. We currently have one of the crookedest administrations in history, and all Larry can do is write a stupid song. Come on tell me why Obama deserves a second term when he didn't even deserve a first one? Too bad for America that Hillary didn't win the nomination.
New Hollywood Lackluster movie in the works: a lukewarmandyellow production
Wherever morbidly wealthy aristocrats feign oppression,
Gaffe-man is there to crush the impoverished masses, and defend the entitled few from the statutes of regulation and fair taxation!
From his tax-sheltered hide-out in the Cayman Islands,
Gaffe-man stands ready to respond whenever summoned by the Koch brothers to wrong a right and fight for the 1%!
Yeah. Trickle-down economics will work this time!
Get your umbrella ready! (and Gaffe-man doesn't need your help, because he has his own car elevator and his MAGIC UNDERWEAR!!!)
This film has been rated XXXX for obvious reasons!
Sorry, Obama already crushed the impoverished masses and buried them in national debt to boot.
Sorry, Obama's cronies are all 1%, as is Reid, Pelosi, Boxer, Kennedy, Inmelt, Gore, Kerry, Soros, Gates, Buffet, Geffen, Hollywood, wall street, bankers, etc. Nice try.
Supply side economics got us down to 4.6% unemployment with a booming economy. Then democrats took congress and destroyed the economy with trickle up poverty.
Valhalla Phil
How is it that you have everything completely backwards? What are you listening to? Or do you make this up yourself? Perhaps it's time to take off the tin foil - just a suggestion.
Will any woman in her right mind vote for Romney? Considering the GOP has all but declared them property over the past 3 years,,,,I doubt it
Will any minorities vote for Romney? Thats just a loud echoing NO
Will any Vets vote for Romney? After 4 deferments and eventually fleeing the USA to avoid going to fight in a war HE promoted,,,,,,,Pretty doubtful
Bain
Taxes
A $77K deduction for a dancing horse, LOL
This list could go on and on and on,,,,,,Unless you are a diehard lemming
of a Republican your NOT going to vote for him.
I'm not a Democrat, I'm not a BIG Obama supporter, But he will have my
vote in November
So Bo, are you saying that Mitt Romney's demographic is made up of: lying, cheating, thieving, bigoted morons, kind of like the supporters he has here on these blogs, otherwise referred to "diehard lemming Republicans"?
Sorry, it's lemming democrats that are following Obama over a cliff. They are the morons who actually think you can spend your way out of debt, the food stamps are something to be proud of, that welfare is the best stimulus, etc. You can't get more stupid than that.
Lying republican trolls are out in force. They really have no clue Portman I hope is the guy because he is a Bush clown and then he can take questions about why the economy was destroyed during the Bush error. They he can be pinned down constantly on what he would do differently that should take us till October. Next round of questions will center around how many years of tax returns have you submitted to Romney. Oh 5 you say why so many when your new boss only submitted 2 years. For you weak minded and delusional GOPers what possible reason could you be asking for Obama college transcript. Did George Washington submit his? How about Coolidge? Let's try one more did Bush either one submit theirs?
Bo I hope you can find your way to a voting booth to cast your vote. This election should be about the economy and jobs. Whoever wins will have some really tough decisions or we'll wind up like Greece.
You fools keep asking about Romney's tax returns, why? Who cares how much money he made? He's paid more in taxes than most of us will in a lifetime. Why have we made successful people villains?
Obama - Biden would be a couple of funny clowns if they weren't taking the country down with them. Jimmy Carter sucked as a president, but he would be 10 times better than what we currently have.
Don't tell us that Portman said BHO hasn't kept his promises about jobs and the economy. You're paying for Lexus-Nexus. Tell us whether BHO kept his promises or not.
I will simplify it - current GOP is like the GOP that started the Great Depression and the Great Recsssion but also more conservative and will limit the rights of women, minorities, and may do some real hateful stuff to anyone who challenges them....Obama is correcting their Great Recession and will give everyone rights although he won't give anyone the right to own a bazooka at home so repubs will hate him for that.
More fascist lies. It was democrats that destroyed the economy. They inherited 4.6% unemployment from republicans before they destroyed everything. Unemployment is still higher than it was four years ago.
Sorry, that reply to Larry-nc was somewhat one sided on a universal level. But it was clever. (so is Bruce) The reality is, no one in congress has any real connection to their constituents. If they all had a web page where they posted the bills up for vote in summary, and in full context, let the people of their respective constituencies vote yes or no, they would have an even easier job than they have now. (hard to believe that's possible) All they would have to do is count the votes, compare the numbers and addresses to the respective population, post the results for the general public, and vote according to the LIKELY majority. Could even be done by a congressman, (or woman). The first one to do that would probably have the job for life. With no guilt or repercussions. All in favor, raise your hand.
There are a few Bruce's now that inhabit these blogs, so if you meant me Dean, then... THANKS!
your welcome, and if you pass my "congressional vote system" on to anyone who will listen, we may change something some day.
Why would those who hate, despise and don't believe in government be so desperate to be elected president?
Well so far the Dem's have lost Missouri, Indianna, now Colorado, Virginia and Florida are in a dead heat! Every election this close always breaks for the challenger in the last few weeks of the campaign... It was this way for Carter with Regan, the same with Bush Senior with Clinton... Sorry Libs but your going to get your butt kicked in November!!!
Better get used to saying President Romney!!!
Romney 2012!!! Yeah Baby!!!
Wait till November Dan. Then make your predictions. If he wins, he wins-we loose. But then it WILL be a fact, not a dream.
Well Dan -- come debate time, Romney won't know what hit him. Romney only managed a draw against 4th stringers like Bachmann and Pizza Man.
Portman you are simply not portly stay home.
Many of the Independents I know have quit answering their phones due to the excessive number of political calls, so don't assume the polls are accurate on either side.
Portman couldn't even beat that serial hypocrite cheater Newt or that psychotic Santorum and he thinks he is qualified to do analysis. Heck his own daddy wouldn't even back that pathetic play he made for the nomination.
It's easy to contrast the GOP with Obama. GOP: We hate science, women, minorities, knowledge, fairness, compassion, and unless you're wealthy and white, we probably hate you, too.
Wow Impressive ! WOMEN REALLY do get it! See for yourself what IT's REALLY ALL ABOUT:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=es3_ofkPRIM
Republicans are about WORDS, not results. They TALK about smaller government but give us BIG government. They TALK about balanced budgets but turned the largest surplus of all times into the largest deficit of all times. The TALK about how great they are for business but gave us the worst economy since the depression.
Harry Truman said it best --- If you want to live like a rich Republican, vote for Democrats. Look at the economy under Bush 41, the Clinton, the Bush 43 and tell us that's not true!!!
The only "stark contrast" that Portman drew is the fact that Obama attempted to bring people together to solve problems and, with the exception of health care, the GOP succeeded in stopping him.
....
