Republican presidential candidate and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney speaks to workers during a campaign event at Acme Industries on August 7, 2012 in Elk Grove Village, Illinois.
*** The final three: We can say with a high degree of confidence that Mitt Romney’s vice-presidential pick has largely come down to three men: former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, and House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan. And it’s more than possible that Romney has already made up his mind. All three VP finalists bring something different to the table. Pawlenty is the loyal outsider, who would enable a Romney-Pawlenty ticket to run as former governors vowing to take on Washington; Pawlenty also potentially would add some blue-collar appeal to the ticket. Portman would be the insider, someone who knows the ways of Washington and who could help govern starting on Day 1. And Ryan would be the crusader, who wants to substantially transform America’s entitlement programs and who would excite a good portion of the GOP’s conservative base. Indeed, Ryan has emerged a VERY REAL possibility, but he also brings the most risk. If Romney selects him, it’s more than conceivable that the dominant campaign discussion in the fall won’t be the economy -- but rather the deficit and Medicare. Of course, there was already a good chance the Ryan plan will get plenty attention regardless of Romney’s VP pick.
*** Bold vs. cautious GOPers divided on Ryan: Politico writes that Republican observers are split on Ryan. “Ryan advocates, including some of his colleagues and high-profile conservative elites, believe Romney will lose if he doesn’t make a more assertive case for his candidacy and that selecting the 42-year-old wonky golden boy would sound a clarion call to the electorate about the sort of reforms the presumptive GOP nominee wants to bring to Washington. Call them the ‘go bold’ crowd.” On the other hand: “Their opposites, pragmatic-minded Republican strategists and elected officials, believe that to select Ryan is to hand President Barack Obama’s campaign a twin-edged blade, letting the incumbent slash Romney on the Wisconsin congressman’s Medicare proposal and carve in the challenger a scarlet ‘C’ for the unpopular Congress. This is the cautious corner.”
NBC's Mark Murray and Domenico Montanaro narrow down Mitt Romney's vice presidential candidate picks to three and discuss newly released poll numbers.
*** Polling the over-50 crowd: Just how important could the debate over the Ryan budget, especially if he’s Romney’s VP pick? Just consider this AARP poll of voters over 50, in which Obama and Romney are tied 45-45% with the group (and with Obama’s approval at just 42%). Per this poll, 91% believe “Social Security is critical to the economic security of seniors” and “the next president and Congress need to strengthen Social Security so that it is able to provide retirement security for future generations.” (That includes about three-quarters of Romney voters.) And on Medicare: 95% say “Medicare is critical to maintaining the health of seniors” and 88% say the next president and Congress “need to strengthen Medicare so that it is able to provide health coverage in retirement for future generations.” The poll was conducted by Hart Research and GS Strategy Group. (Disclosure: Hart Research is the Democratic half of the NBC-WSJ poll.)
*** Romney leads in CO, but Obama’s ahead in VA and WI: Last week, President Obama campaigned in Florida and Ohio -- just as new Quinnipiac/New York Times/CBS polls showed him leading (and above 50%) in those two states. But today, as he begins a two-day swing through Colorado, the same polling outfit shows him trailing Romney among likely by five points in the state, 50%-45%. That said, new Quinnipiac/New York Times/CBS surveys also show Obama leading in Virginia (49%-45%) and Wisconsin (51%-45%). So out of the six battleground states that Quinnipiac has polled in the past two weeks -- Colorado, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin -- Obama leads in five of them. And speaking of polls, a new national Washington Post/ABC survey finds that Romney’s fav/unfav is still underwater at 40%-49% versus Obama’s 53%-43%. In fact, ABC adds that Romney “is laboring under the lowest personal popularity ratings for a presumptive presidential nominee in midsummer election-year polls back to 1984.”
*** The GOP’s danger in elevating Bill Clinton: Over the past few months, the Romney campaign has elevated Bill Clinton (and even Hillary) in an attempt to divide Democrats and to appeal to downscale white voters. And now comes the Romney camp’s latest TV ad. “In 1996, President Clinton and a bipartisan Congress helped end welfare as we know it by requiring work for welfare,” the narrator says in it. “But on July 12th, President Obama quietly announced a plan to gut welfare reform by dropping work requirements.” As Greg Sargent writes, this effort is to portray Clinton as the “good” kind of Democrat and Obama as the “bad” kind. But there is a real danger here for the Romney campaign and Republicans: Clinton is supporting Obama, and he can swing back like he did last night when he released a statement calling the ad “not true.” More Clinton: The recently announced waiver policy was originally requested by the Republican governors of Utah and Nevada to achieve more flexibility in designing programs more likely to work in this challenging environment. The administration has taken important steps to ensure that the work requirement is retained and that waivers will be granted only if a state can demonstrate that more people will be moved into work under its new approach.”
*** You turn him into a fair observer, just when he has a primetime speaking slot: What’s more, Clinton will be delivering a big primetime speech at the Democratic convention. So when the Romney campaign airs this kind of TV ad -- elevating Clinton as a fair observer in this presidential contest -- persuadable voters might be paying attention to what Clinton has to say at the Dem convention. And what happens if Bubba unloads on Romney? Just something to consider…
*** Playing loose with the facts: Speaking of that new Romney TV ad on welfare, First Read has already pointed out that it’s a dubious assertion to claim that Obama is trying to “gut welfare reform.” Why? Because the HHS memo in question clearly states that it “will only consider approving waivers relating to the work participation requirements that make changes intended to lead to more effective means of meeting the work goals of TANF." In other words, the work requirement is still there. So when Romney told FOX last night that Obama believes that “they shouldn’t have to have the work requirement” isn’t a correct statement. But there is a clear reason why the Romney camp wants to continue airing this TV ad: Obama continues to overperform with downscale whites, especially in places like Ohio. But this Romney advertisement isn’t the only new TV ad out there that’s playing loose with the facts. The pro-Obama Super PAC Priorities USA Action has a spot with a man claiming that he lost his family’s health insurance after Bain Capital helped close a Kansas City steel plant in 2001 -- and that his wife died shortly after. But as Politico notes, the man’s wife died in 2006, years after the steel plant closed down.
*** “Romney Hood” vs. “Obamaloney”: But not only are the TV ads playing loose with the facts, the rhetoric on the campaign trail also has devolved to name calling. So on Monday night, there was Obama talking about “Romney Hood,” seizing on that recent non-partisan Tax Policy Center report. "[Romney would] ask the middle class to pay more taxes so that he could give another $250,000 tax cut to people making more than $3 million a year. It's like Robin Hood in Reverse. It's Romney Hood!" And here’s how Romney countered to FOX: “We’ve been watching the president say a lot of things about me and about my policies. And they’re just not right. And if I were to coin a term, it would be ‘Obamaloney.’” Have we really gotten to the name calling stage of the campaign in August? Ugly. Are the candidates proud of the tone of the campaign?
*** On the trail: Obama stumps in Colorado, hitting Denver at 3:20 pm ET and Grand Junction at 7:25 pm ET… Romney campaigns in Des Moines, IA at 9:25 am ET… Meanwhile, Romney’s surrogates and VP possibilities are out in full force -- Portman attends campaign office openings in Colorado; Pawlenty visits Michigan; and Chris Christie raises money for Romney in California.
*** McCaskill gets her man: Endangered Sen. Claire McCaskill (D) caught a real break last night when the one challenger she was HOPING to run against -- Rep. Todd Akin (R) -- surprisingly won his competitive three-way GOP Senate primary in Missouri last night. As National Journal writes, “Polls have showed McCaskill trailing Akin though she polls closer to him than she did against businessman John Brunner and former Treasurer Sarah Steelman, who Akin edged Tuesday.” This Missouri Senate contest is a real race now. McCaskill still may lose, but it’s going to be close. Meanwhile, while Democrats were bracing that Jay Inslee (D) would come in second to Rob McKenna (R) in Washington state’s blanket gubernatorial primary, it turns out that Inslee got 47% to McKenna’s 43%, per the Seattle Times. Now, as Democrats had been telling First Read, the blanket primary isn’t the best way to judge what will happen in November, because the electorates are different. But still, Democrats have to feel good about last night’s result in Washington.
*** Conservatives wage and win ‘Border War’: The Kansas-Missouri rivalry -- in sports as well as what happened in the 1800s -- is known as the “Border War” and last night conservatives won their own version in both states with Akin’s win in Missouri and the conservative state Senate takeover in Kansas. In Missouri, after his victory last night, Akin declared: “This campaign is about reclaiming our Godly values, rebuilding the American Dream, restoring the America that we love.” Across the border, in Kansas, nine incumbent, moderate-leaning GOP state senators, including the Senate president, were ousted -- and it was fueled by outside money, including from the Koch Brothers. Their sin: Working with Democrats “to block some of the most aggressive parts of [Gov. Sam] Brownback’s agenda.” NPR: “The Kansas GOP’s not getting over this any time soon. Normally, after a primary, the party throws a unity breakfast. Not this morning.”

Brazen Inequality and Lack of Transparency All The Way:
We just can't believe candidate Romney's blanket of secrecy at a moment when Americans need to know -- including erasing entirely -- governor and olympic head computer records, hiding Bain dealings, and the identities of his bundlers.
Mr. Romney and his handlers are banking on America's continued suspension of belief. We wonder how any candidate for U.S. President could disrespect this nation's time-honored release of tax returns, the way Romney is doing?
GOP/Koch plans to throw us off-balance at least until the Convention, where Romney says he will unveil his V-P on the third day. I've placed a bet with myself about who it will be. And it will be whoever will go the last mile for the very rich, whoever is prepared to be the most exploitative of working folks and the environment, and the least respectful of Democracy.
To repeat, the GOP nominee for Vice President, will be whoever fits the $$Big Corporate right wing longterm strategy for maximum worker-domination, and cheap environmental destruction in the 21st century.
All I can say is if there is a God in the Mormom Church, please... please...please... let her whisper into Willard's ear and tell him to chose Paul Ryan!
How awesome would it be to have both Herman & Eddie Munster on the same ticket?
Ryan's budget plan will be like a 100 lb wait around old Willard's neck...
Then there's Willard's tax return problem which isn't going away anytime soon!
4 MORE for 44!
To Know Romney Is To Dislike Him:
Several months ago John Boehner said that Mitt Romney is not a very likeable guy. Republican primary opponents don't like him. Newt Gingrich called him a "liar". Rick Santorum still doesn't like Romney. Neither does Ron Paul or Jon Huntsman. Bush 43 endorsed Romney as the elevator doors closed. Sarah Palin doesn't like him and is still negotiating to get a chance to speak at the GOP convention. Additionally, it has been said that President Obama initially felt neutral about Romney but has grown to personally dislike him as well. Not a very friendly guy, that Willard Romney!
It seems that someone associated with Bain Capital doesn't like Romney either. It takes a fair amount of resentment for that anonymous source to call up Harry Reid and leak some serious information regarding Willard's tax returns. To report that Romney has paid very little taxes for 10 years is a powerful statement. In a knee-jerk reaction Romney wanted to immediately know the name of the informant. In short Romney wants to know who betrayed him.
I don't want to get into the weeds of conspiracy theories, but some are speculating that "Deep Throat" is a Mormon who has known Harry Reid for a long time and has a dislike of Willard. Reid said his source was an investor at Bain Capital. This would suggest a rather small pool of suspects. Personally, I have no knowledge of the people who work for Bain and have no business even speculating who Deep Throat might be.
What I do believe is that Mitt Romney would make every effort to financially destroy Harry Reid's source and Harry will never, ever tell us who that person is. So what we have is Romney wondering: Who called Harry Reid? How much information does that informant have? Was the informant someone who actually worked on my taxes? Will that informant leak more information, like my 2008 and 2009 tax returns? Will investigative reporters stumble onto the informant and expose my most closely guarded secret? Will the other shoe drop before or after the convention?
It could be that in the weeks to come Willard Romney will appear distracted. He has good reason to be worried. More bad news is on the horizon.
So, Barry is going to have to tell the American people which of their precious, valued programs he is going to cut under the sequester right after Labor Day, which is when people start actually paying attention to the election campaigns. This should be a REALLY entertaining 100% pure politics document. It will put him and his campaign to the supreme test of their creative lying skills: How do they go after the biggest mom and apple pie targets and also place the blame for it on Republicans. The old “asking the ‘rich’ to pay a little bit more” canard isn’t gonna work when there are hundreds, if not thousands, of special interest groups all screaming like stuck pigs, all at the same time just before the election.
Nobama 2012 Really, Things Could Be Worse-
Just Give Me Four More Years and I'll Prove It
Obama’s hand forced on sequester
By: Darren Samuelsohn and Manu Raju

President Barack Obama — with a big nudge from Congress — is about to get much more specific about a touchy topic in the heat of his reelection campaign.
Legislation Obama signed into law Tuesday will force him to detail early next month how he’d make the first phase of $1.2 trillion in spending cuts across the federal budget, from defense to education to the environment.
Sure, Obama gets to spare the likes of Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare and Pell Grants.
But everything else could get whacked by the $109 billion in cuts set to begin in January, absent a last-minute deal with a divided Congress. The automatic reductions are a consequence of the congressional supercommittee’s failure last year to reach a deficit-slashing deal.
The stakes couldn’t be higher: Combined with the January expiration of the Bush-era tax cuts, the first year of automatic reductions could send the country back into recession, economists warn. Companies could begin scaling back their employment rolls once they learn the precise nature of the planned cuts from the Obama report.
And there’s no way to whack the budget without making somebody mad. Longtime Democratic allies are trying to protect cherished domestic programs. Republicans — and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta — are warning that national security programs are in peril, and the GOP is already highlighting the potential loss of military jobs in battlegrounds such as Colorado, Florida, New Hampshire and Virginia.
MITT ROMNEY, MASTER CON MAN.
Mitt Romney is that guy who can look you in the eye, and tell you that your ears, your eyes, the known facts, the testimonials, the live recordings, alltheking'shorsesandalltheking'smen - are all wrong. And that YOU, YOU (especially Senator Reid!) are really the ones to blame, for HIS serial conceits, deceits, injuries and disservices to the American people.
Romney eventually admitted filing in Utah. He lied under oath.
1) Applying to be MA governor: Romney testified he was paying taxes as an MA resident while living in Utah. Then said he'd been filing in BOTH states. Quizzed about the 'domicile' check box on the form, Romney said "I do not read the entire form."
Voter fraud charges forthcoming?
2) Voting for Scott Brown in 2010, Romney said he was physically living in his son's basement in MA, while at the same time physically living in CA with his wife. Houdini should be so lucky.
We're still waiting.
3) Romney told the 'Globe' ten years ago he'd get back to them on tax returns - he never did. In 2002, Romney's opponents produced their tax returns but no, not he. Again recently, when ABC News asked had he ever paid lower than 13.9% in taxes, Romney tee-hee'd "I'm happy to go back and look".
Senator Obama produced 8 years of tax returns - but doing so is beneath Romney's contempt?
They’re back!
ACORN is back in action is several states. Here in MA they just forced the state (actually they didn’t have to force this state at all) to send 500,000 letters out to the welfare recipients reminding them to register to vote.
Gee, I wonder if they will cast their ballots for the “Food Stamp President”. Taxpayers are of course on the hook for the $275,000 the mailing cost but hey we have to get this Marxist another 4 years right?

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/
MSDNC’s talking horse’s a$$, Mr. Ed, was whining about Romney possibly using a “tax loophole” called “tax harvesting” implying there was something crooked about it. This is one of the most basic rules in the tax code and is available to everyone, including lefty liberals that invest their paper route money. I will try to explain it in terms simple enough that even Ph.D lefty liberals can’t get it wrong.
Say Nasty DumbFux invests her paper route savings of $200 by buying $100 worth of stock in each of two hypothetical companies: D Corp. and R Corp. in January 2010. A year and a half later Nasty sells her R Corp. stock for $199, generating a long term capital gain of $99. Her D Corp. stock has performed miserably, reporting heavy losses every quarter since she bought it. In December 2011 her D Corp. stock is worth only $1 and she believes (correctly) it is hopeless and will never be worth more than a dollar or two. She sells it to “tax harvest” the $99 loss which will offset her $99 LTCG on R Corp.
Lets analyze these transactions: Nasty had $200 to start with, made money on R Corp. and lost money on D Corp., and ends up with $200:The EXACT SAME amount she started with. On her 2011 1040 she will report a LTCG of $99 and a LTCL of $99 resulting in a net of zero in taxable income from her stock transactions.
And that just makes sense because Nasty has only the same $200 she started with. No gain, no taxes. Even a Ph.D lefty liberal would have a hard time arguing with that result. But, clueless morons like Mr. Ed will still try to make all the low information lefty liberal voters think there is something crooked about it in their Romney smear campaign.

Senator Obama produced 8 years of tax returns - but doing so is beneath Romney's contempt?
Dude, the tax thingy is so yesterday. Try to keep up with the DNC talking points.
Today's news is Romney killed some guys wife with cancer.
Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachmann are available for VP. That would surely wrap up the dumb a$$ vote for Willard.
Well at least now the Obama campaign can narrow their lies three candidates. If Obama had a record to run on, maybe he would. But it seems Obama is more comfortable in the gutter just making stuff up, or telling one of his cronies to do it for him. Our panderer in chief will say or do anything to get re-elected, not because he loves the job or is even any good at it, but the perks are more then anyone can give up. Obama is still just wandering around a dark room looking for the light switch.
Good morning my friends,
When a focus group was tested early in 2012: And they were told the RomneyRyan budget was about:
Ending Medicare as we know it, and at the same time extolling more and bigger tax cuts for the wealthy ~~ they couldn't believe it.
For them, the (R-WI) Ryan plan was too ridiculous to contemplate.
8.3% umemployment...Romney's tax returns...50 million on foodstamps....Romney's tax returns...$15 trillion national debt and climbing every day...Romney's tax returns....fast & furious...Romney's tax returns...1.5% GDP growth...Romney's tax returns.
Getting old, isn't it?
Joe in Albany
So, Barry is going to have to tell the American people which of their precious, valued programs he is going to cut under the sequester right after Labor Day, which is when people start actually paying attention to the election campaigns
Joeey,
Instead of laughing like a hyena you should pay attention to the truth.
Just when you thought it wasn't possible for Democrats and liberals to sink any lower, a pro-Obama Super PAC, Priorities USA Action, released an ad that implies that Romney is responsible for the death of a steelworker's wife from cancer. Basically, the ad tries to tie Romney to to the death by pointing out that Bain Capital closed GST Steel in 2002, putting the steelworker out of work without health insurance and that because of this, his wife died of cancer. If you watch the ad, Joe Soptic (the steelworker) says that his wife was diagnosed with cancer and died twenty-two days later.
What the ad fails to mention is that the diagnosis took place six years after GST closed it's doors. It also fails to mention that Romney was no longer running Bain Capital at the time of GST's closure or that the plant was closed because it was no longer viable due to foreign steel flooding the US market. Finally, it doesn't point out that Soptic's wife had her own health insurance policy through the thrift store that she worked for after GST was shut down.
While Democrats/liberals will argue that Obama isn't resposible for what a Super PAC does, we all know that isn't true. I hope this makes all of your lefty hearts swell with pride.
Me? I wouldn't vote for a politician that engaged in this type of politics, but then I still have my dignity and self-respect intact--I actually work for a living and make a discernable contribution to society. You liberals should try it sometime, it's a liberating experience. Instead of being slaves to your welfare checks, you will actually be free to vote for anyone you want, not just the guy promising you the most free things.
Double post.
What I do believe is that Mitt Romney would make every effort to financially destroy Harry Reid's source and Harry will never, ever tell us who that person is. Ron!
Excellent thoughts this morning!
The name I have heard floating around is Jon Huntsman, which wouldn't surprise me after the way Willard destroyed him in the primary!
In any case... Willard still has some serious splainin to do! ☺
fiesty,
No matter who the GOP picks as the running mate for Romney, he will still be better then "foot-in-his-mouth", "can't-think-on-his-feet" biden. If obama is sooo smart don't you think he would change his vice presidential choice?
Oh did he release them?
No?
Then you wish it was sooo yesterday. Its on;ly going to get worse when ANY VP candidate is asked "Does it bother you that Mitt required more tax returns from you than he gave the American people?"

Picking Biden for his running mate is really the only intelligent thing Obama has done. After all, Biden is better then a bullet proof vest. No one is going to want to see anything happen to Obama with a complete idiot like Biden poised to take over.

Romney's tax issue will be old news in late November when he is back home riding the car elevator up and down crying "but it was MY turn." His deceit about his taxes will haunt him from now on - no matter what he tries to do.
Portman and Pawlenty are both looking for tactful ways to get out of the VP thing - no one wants to run and ruin their career with Romney. Ryan doesn't have enough sense to know it's a political death sentence!

Joe in albany,
Your post at 1.3 is very interesting. It does state the issues for this lame duck Congress.
President Obama will be ready.
The question is, will John Boehner bring anything out of the House that the president will sign?
Boehner track record is dismal.
Obamanation - do you EVER get tired of posting your made up lies? Do you know how utterly ridiculous you look to anyone with a mind? Do you even care that you are an absolute embarrassment to yourself?
Pathetic!
What was a lie Seeking?
I dare you to prove one statement there as a lie.
I double dare you.
Ron, excellent post and observation of why Harry Reid will not reveal his source. One only needs to look at the vicious attack measures Romney took to eliminate his GOP opponents during the primary; the ads he ran in Iowa were beyond gutter politics, they were sewer politics. One wonders how many "friends" Romney really has or does he just have acquaintances?
Don'tCarryItAll, terrific article. Romney has managed to alienate Iowa republicans right along with independents and democrats, too. Wind energy is huge here. That article tells us that not only is Mitt out of touch with much of America, his campaign team is as well. Today, wind energy in Iowa is like ethanol was previously--the third rail for politicians.

SeekingSanity - If you are going to call someone out post facts to refute it. You guys seem to be going backwards. Guilty before proven innocent, call someone a liar and then names to justify it.
Pathetic is right.
Who called Harry Reid regarding Romney not paying taxes for 10 years? - probably someone in the McCain camp - They vetted Romney in 2008, took a look at his tax filings and chose Sarah from Alaska over Multiple Choice Mitt.
Speaking of tax filings - have you all seen Romney's Italian Job
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-08-06/romney-persona-non-grata-in-italy-for-bain-s-deal-skirting-taxes.html
I think Obama is on to something - the "Romney Hood" moniker is right! Romney sticks it to the Italian taxpayers, the American taxpayers and anyone else he can when it comes to avoiding paying taxes.
Why would we want Romney to be our Commander in Chief - after reading the information from the link, it would be fair to say that Romney would be Pillager in Chief.

Three peas in the same pod, all involved in unsubstantiated character assassination.
BTW Dr. Ron, Harry's meme is Romney paid no taxes, not "very little" taxes. You jackals can't even keep your story straight.
BTW2 Dr. Ron, the WaPo Fact Check gave Harry four Pinocchios for his lies. But you don't care about the Pinocchios, do you?
Moe, Curly, and Larry?
obamanation I double dare you.
Yes you are the pride of the rightwing today. You make the right look real good with your posts. Keep up the good the rightwing is real proud of you and f**k you attitude. Thank you for making the rightwing look real good. Keep up the good work. You make all the rightwing look like you.
Still waiting, Seeking.
Here.....let me help you out a little.
Here's Oblahblah not turning over his email messages.
""
Hey look, I can post stuff that has nothing to do with the article too. Gee wizz I sure hope they see my lefty hack writing here and offer me a job to write for them in hack central.
Backhouse - You are a hoot: We just can't believe candidate Romney's blanket of secrecy at a moment when Americans need to know
Maybe I missed something... Was there some sort of shift in politics last night? Did our illustrious president all of a sudden come gushing out with all his personal information? Did Obama finally release all of his college transcripts? Did Obama finally come forth with a definition of fundamental change? If he did, I missed it.
It seems to me that the whining from the left about wanting personal information about Romney is overshadowed by the fact that Obama was never forthcoming about his information. The information the left wants from Romney is nothing but political fodder and a diversion from the issues of the economy, unemployment and the way Obama has handled these and other critical issues for the past 3 1/2 years.
Let's talk reality here... let's talk about how much better we are than 4 years ago. Let's talk about the inflationary rate and how groceries are costing so much more... so much more that we have record numbers of Americans on food stamps. I guess no complaints from those that are receiving the free hand-outs from the government. Lets keep the gravy train rolling.
The left feels they have government on their side. This is why they are so vehemently attacking Romney... because they feel by their attacks, they lessen his chances at taking over the presidency. It has always been known the democrats don't want republicans in office because republicans actually do things to reduce government spending. Wasn't it a republican controlled congress that brought spending down to reduce the deficit in the Clinton years? Of course Clinton got the credit for it but who cares, he was impeached for lying under oath. Oooops... sorry, wasn't supposed to mention that.
Now the liberals feel the need... feel the need for attack. After all their precious democrat control is in jeopardy. All they can do is complain about republicans blocking their efforts at screwing up the economy even more... Those dratted republicans and how they won't just give democrats everything they want. Liberals say the republicans won't compromise... but what is compromise? To the liberal it means caving in to the demands of democrats. That's the only compromise they understand... well let me inform you... caving isn't compromise... Not caving is standing up for what you believe in and not giving over to the demands of those who constantly complain and whine about it.
Romney should NOT cave in to the liberals about his tax returns. He should hold fast. He should use their crying and whining against them. Liberals won't be satisfied even if he did produce his returns. I've heard that some democrats want even more than 10 years... for what purpose? What would Romney gain if he released even one more? Not a damn thing. There's no satisfaction or purpose in caving to the demands of those that are against you...
Why is what Romney has done with HIS MONEY more important to the left than what Obama has done with MY MONEY?
I want to learn how to keep more of my money from being WASTED on taxes
Vote ROMNEY
Bill in Fairfax --
WaPo gave Obama's AD on Romney's tax plan that would take from the middle class and poor to pay for tax cuts for the RICH a RARE
Jody, Iowa
Whether Reid lied or not can be quickly ascertained by Willard releasing his Tax Returns!!!
If Reid lied…PROVE IT!!!! my guess is that the tax records will show that Willard never left Bain, that Willard has been funneling money overseas to avoid paying taxes, that Willard has even been investing his money in many more unscrupulous enterprises like the disposal of aborted fetuses, that Willard’s tax issues will lead to investors at Bain….
My guess is that Willard is Dirty and the only way to prove his isn’t is to cough up the TAX RETURNS…
After all…wasn’t it just fine with those BIRTHERS to flood the airwaves and make an issue about Obama’s Birth Certificate!!!!
That’s Right Willard…WE WANT TO SEE IF YOU’RE LEGAL!!!!!!!!!
Still waiting, Seeking....
Just last week all the RWNJ's were standing in line to give rimjobs to Rubio, what happened? Is he not your boyfriend anymore?
Scott.
I believe Oblahblah registered in college as a foreign exchange student, and there is only one way to prove it to be a lie.
So when's Oblahblah going to release his college transcripts and his Fulbright Scholarship?
I'll wait, holding my breath with anticipation.
If Mutt picks Ryan will Ryan bring wolfie on the campaign trail?
You guys are drinking the Liberal Kool- Aid and it is showing. Everyone is coming down on Romney without listening to what he says. Obama is stating that he only wants to raise the taxes on the rich, he LIED about that. The Health Care reform bill that was RAMMED down the taxpayers throat (85%- 15% against messages to representatives according to the Capital Communication office) was repeatly stated by Obama and the White House as not a tax. But when they went to the Supreme Court all the sudden it was a TAX. In the bill, there are 350 new taxes aimed not at the rich, but at the middle class.
Where'd you go, Seeking?
Drop a bomb and run off with no proof to back your claim, like Harry Reid?
Same goes for you Smitty.....
Prove me wrong.
I double dare you.
Shout it from the Rooftops!
God Bless America!
And Thank-you President Obama that you'll be our President for the Next four (yes!4) very Long years!
All Hail Obama.
Ruler, Master, and Overlord of all you Republicans and Teabaggers for those 4 more years.
Yeah!
Ain't Life Grand?
Than-God we won't have Mitt Romney and the Republicans to Steal the Money of Policemen, Firemen, Teachers, all Women, and Independent and Undecided Voters, and then have Mitt Romney take that Stolen Money and put it in his own personal Hidden Swiss Bank Account, so he does Not have to Pay any Taxes on it, because Mitt Romey already has "Laundried" our Middle-Class Miney in his Slush funds in the Cayman Islands.

Pretty sad when msnbc won't even let you link to their own site.....
I'm calling it right now.
ROB PORTMAN R-OHIO
Why?
His Wikipedia page has had a severe makeover in the past few days by an account that was immediately deleted afterwords. The changes included removing all portions on controversies and controversial issues Portman has been involved in.
Only now there's a problem, the editor forgot that Wikipedia caches all pages and all edits in case of foul play, and the page was restored soon afterwords.
Well, that's my theory at least.
First Read:
The CNN talking head lady was having fits over this ad, too, yesterday. She was so mad about it, she "forgot" to mention the Romney ad lying about Obama's welfare policy. This looks like another hasty media attempt at False Equivalency to balance out Mitt's lies.
The man in the pro-Obama commercial said his family lost their health insurance thanks to Bain. That seems to be true. If that means that he and his wife couldn't afford routine medical checkups for several years then his wife's cancer might have been detected in time to treat it. As the man said in the ad, the doctors caught it "too late." Cancer is a disease that can often take years before it becomes untreatable. So just because his wife died several years after he was laid off doesn't necessarily mean that Bain isn't culpable in his wife's death.
I work during the day so am on and off the site.
President Obama's senate records are public record and easily accessed. Anyone with a brain knows that.
Hi Kiddies
I have said it before and I will say it again, the VP pick will be Tim Pawlenty, although I would pay good money if he would pick Paul Ryan. That would be the kiss of death. The AARP will go nuts.
I'm starting to feel more and more confident about November.
Obama/Biden 2012
Romney Hood for the Mega Rich !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Elliot - I heard about that ad yesterday. You are absolutely correct about the viciousness of the lies in that ad. It is totally amazing at how low the PAC's will go that support Obama. Nothing but lies and deceit.
Steve-446003
If you had a 401K in 2008, you'd be more concerned with what BUSH did to your money after his lax regulatory oversight of the financial sector permitted the banksters to collapse the economy. As for Obama, the value of MY money in my 401K has nearly doubled what it was at the end of the last era of Republican misgovernance.
Awwww.......poor little Obamabot Zombies can't defend their statements, so they have to collapse my comment.
But as the facts show his wife did not get her primary insurance through GST. Her primary insurance was through her employer.
But go ahead and defend a despicable ad Houston!. It's what I've come to expect from Obama supporters. They claim the high ground with soaring phrases and uplifting speeches, but the operate in the gutter.
BTW The Romney ad on welfare reform is factually wrong but they are claiming that the result led to someones death.
I hope they run this ad on loop. If this is not the bottom I don't know what is. It shows the Obama campaign for what it truly is. (And I thought the swiftboating ads were disgraceful)
Oneterm...
My guess is that an education has eluded you! What the hell does college transcripts have to do with whether or not someone has committed TAX EVASION!!! From where I sit TAX EVASION is a FELONY and punishable with fines and prison or to those on the right it's just the cost of doing business!!!!
It is public record that Obama was the President of the Harvard Law Review, having been elected to it by his peers, He graduated from Harvard with a Law Degree and passed the Bar exam in Illinois… if you want to know things like this it's just a matter of doing a little research and reading!!!
Obama released his birth certificate (still not good enough for the mentally challenged), Obama/ Biden have released over 10 years of tax returns and now the miscreants on the right want Obama release his transcripts!!!
I think its about time that Willard release something to prove that he hasn’t committed TAX FRAUD!!!
Houston -- I know trying to reason with you on your last paragraph is -- well almost impossible because it leaves me speechless. Are you really saying that companies who lay off workers and families lose health insurance are culpable in future deaths??? Really??? Do you realize that even after the man lost his health insurance, the couple was covered under her health insurance until she was laid off a few years later??? What the hell is wrong with you? This is beneath contempt.
Patriotic American U.S.A. @ 1.63: "Romney Hood for the Mega Rich !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Obamabologna for only Obama. He could care less about any of you fools!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Scott,
What has eluded YOU is the fact that any idiot can throw out an accusation without proof.
As proven by Harry Reid, Seeking, Smitty and now you.
Where did I say that I didn't think Oblahblah was a US Citizen? I didn't.
I accused him of applying as a foreign student.
Why is that pertinent? Because it proves that he is a US Citizen that milks the system on the taxpayers dime. In other words, GRAND LARCENY. You know......A FELONY.
So does his position as President of the Harvard Law Review or his Bar exam show that he didn't apply as a foreign student, even though he is a US Citizen. Nope. Not at all.
So when does Oblahblah begin defending his possible felony?
It's also hilarious that you libtards continue to call me One Term, because you can't bring yourselves to type Obamanation.
RepublicansforObama - did you just come from the Obama Church, where he is adored, adorned, adulated, revered and worshiped? Sounds like some sort of a revival going on in your brain.
Great handle, by the way... a closet liberal taking a fake name. Pretty much like the whole Obama bunch... all fakes, liars and cheats...
Actually, Obama has already confessed to a felony through his possession and use of cocaine.
Big failure Seeking.
I didn't say his voting record.....I said his papers, his files.
They all disappeared when he left office.
someone the other day mentioned why does the right claim Hussein wants to be Emperor, see the proof in Repubs for Obama above.
So just because his wife died several years after he was laid off doesn't necessarily mean that Bain isn't culpable in his wife's death.
Are you serious? So if I die from cancer does that mean it's because of the loss of insurance from the company that laid me off 4 years ago? When did a persons responsibility for their health care become the job of a previous employer? Do you see how ridiculous this statement is? If the woman had been in treatment for cancer and they closed and she died as a result of no longer being able to get treatment I may agree that the company had some culpability, no matter how removed, but that wasn't the case. Yes, it sucks when you lose insurance (we lost ours last month and are scrambling), but the bottom line is that it's your job to see to your personal medical needs, not the company you worked for years before.
Seeking Sanity said: Do you know how utterly ridiculous you look to anyone with a mind?
Guess that counts you out!
Still waiting Seeking.
Are your fingers getting tired trying to Google up some trash to support your position yet?
And then there is SOLYNDRA... If after the $535 MILLION taxpayers dollars were flushed down the toilet AND if some worker that got fired in the Bankruptcy comes down with Cancer 4 or 5 years from now and dies because they lost their SOLYNDRA healthcare....It will be P.Obama's fault they died.....No wait....he'll blame us the taxpayers....after all it was our money the Venture / Vulture Socialist used....Funny how his Investor/Fundraiser friends got their money back...just not you and me.....
Where was the transparency when Obama pass Obamacare. Where is the transparency in Fast and Furious. You are full of ........
You can't want to know who will pick Romney to start with the name calling, mod throwing, lies , and calling for anybody who can provide information of any little sin that the chosen might have make a big deal about it in order to destroy them. Because this is how the left works .
Where's the transparency in his blackberry emails, Seeking?
Where's the transparency in his visitor logs, Seeking?
yes brian, poor seeking thinks it's uber smart. normally people who think they have superior intelligence are utter idiots.

Obamanation - no, you cite your source for your lies.
Brianb - we all know you don't have good sense. If you didn't try to insult me I'd know I did something wrong.

Well, what do you know. After several frustrated attempts and an e-mail to MSNBC -- and THANK YOU, MSNBC -- it WORKS.
Howdy, everyone. Hope you've been well. I am delighted to see that Mittwit's final choices are ALL bad.
Collectively, these three have even less personality, presence, and foreign policy chops than Mittwit.
They make Sarah Palin look inviting by comparison. Although that comes with its own price.

How to Identify Trolls in Your Online Community
Trolls divert online discussions into non-productive, off-topic venues. They pose as part of a community only to disrupt it. Trolling is anti-social behavior. Trolls exhibit a naïve childlike egocentric behavior.
Some of the techniques trolls use to accomplish their objectives are:

@ Ron --
I've been gone mostly of necessity, but lately mostly because I couldn't get the new regimen too work.
Good to see you, too. Now is the time for us all to stand together.
President Barack Obama says he is “not the president of black America,” responding to criticism that he has not done enough for African Americans.
“My general view has been consistent throughout, which is that I want all businesses to succeed,” Obama told Black Enterprise magazine in an interview in the Oval Office. “I want all Americans to have opportunity. I’m not the president of black America.
“I’m the president of the United States of America, but the programs that we have put in place have been directed at those folks who are least able to get financing through conventional means, who have been in the past locked out of opportunities that were available to everybody.
“So, I’ll put my track record up against anybody in terms of us putting in place broad-based programs that ultimately had a huge benefit for African-American businesses,” Obama said.
Criticism of Obama’s commitment to African Americans has intensified in the past year – most notably by author and Princeton University professor Cornel West, who once described the president as being a “black mascot of Wall Street oligarchs and a black puppet of corporate plutocrats.”
And just last month, the 1,300-member Coalition of African-American Pastors called on blacks to boycott Obama and sign petitions demanding that the administration withdraw its support for gay marriage.
“We were once proud of President Obama, but our pride has turned to shame,” said Rev. William Owens, president of the Memphis-based group.
Seems to me that even the blacks are turning against Obama... and the liberals think he's going to win... ROFL!!!
Republicans..ANTI AMERICAN AND JOB KILLERS!
7-19-12 Repubs block the bill that would end giving tax breaks to companies who take AMERICAN JOBS OVERSEAS. Repubs block that same bill that would give tax breaks to companies that would bring jobs back.
Why do republicons hate Americans? Because they love $$$$$$ even more. Repubs love money over our constitution. Repubs pledged the oath to their office when elected then threw that pledge aside and took the King Norquist pledge to the rich. Like traitors when they took the Norquist pledge to the greedy rich. Why do republicons hate America.....Because they love $$$$$$$$ more than America.
Vote Obama/Biden and Team America 2012. Protect American jobs!!!!!
What about all of Romney's files from his tenures as Govenor of Massachusetts and as head of the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics?
I think Rods Father would make a good President ??? ( "Better then Romney" )
Ill be voting for Romney no matter who his VP ends up being from the Three.
Im not better off then I was 4 years ago. Infact, most all of my Friends, Family and Co-workers are worse off then they were 4 years ago. Most of them voted for that Hope and Change guy too.
For me? I blame the Current President AND Congress.
Since I cant do anything about the latter right now, Ill certainly be doing somthing about the Former.
Any person who thinks that Spending more money when you cant pay your bills now is a good Economic Plan should have been thrown out of office the moment they suggested the "Idea"
And this is aimed at all you Left Wing Hypocrites on this Forum
Dont you Dare mention how the Right Wing spews Hatred/Racism/Bigotry etc.... you know the typical Left Wing nonsense ive seen written for many years now. Ive been reading these Forums long enough to know that of all the things ive read, the most Hate, the most Racially charged messages, the most Antagonizing responses have been written by none other then you Lefties and the IDIOT Forum Police just let it slide.
Fiesty Redhead alone has written hundreds of responses like this. Never once been repremanded. Never once coming up with an Idea that both sides can agree on. Just continues to beat that Left Wing drum. Causing more rifts between the two Parties. Dont think what you say on sites like this has anything to do with how people view the opposite side? WRONG
Devie.
I did post to back up my claims.
Here's another, where Obama himself admits to Tim Russert his files from State Senate are missing on Meet the Press....
h t t p ://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21738432/page/4/
So.........where's your proof?
Is it sitting right next to Seeking's in Imagination Land?
So the Administration now in-sources 1.76M workers, many without a High-School diploma. This is double their original estimate. How does this policy affect unskilled labor who cannot find a job with 8.3% unemployment? Other countries only accept Grad School or PhDs as immigrants.
So, on the estimate side this Administrtion has said
DREAMers 800,000 vs 1,760,000
Unemployment below 6% vs 8.3%
Obamacare Less than $1T (actually 900B) vs $1.76T
Why would anybody believe any estimate this Administration publishes? Like the AJA would create 1.5M permanent jobs? More likely 200K that disappear after a year.
OneTerm,
Try “No Term” because that is what Willard faces!!! What gets me is that you seem to be the epitome of a right wing teabagger…. You aren’t angry with a Republican Congress who has done nothing but play politics with the very lives of the Americans that they were elected to serve, all to keep unemployment high and the economy stagnant just to win an election and somehow you people call this “Patriotism”!!
You stand behind a guy who is a thoughtless, mindless moron who was such a gutless wimp that he got others to hold a boy down while he shaved his head and someone who found laughter in helping a blind professor by walking him into a door… and you find honor in this!
He has no respect for people who aren’t in his social class, he finds it difficult to relate to anyone or any country without spewing forth criticism , …he finds such discomfort in being forced to sit and discuss his views with everyday people as if their failure in being rich like him may somehow rub off on him… that he is filled with anger at the very prospect of sharing his tax records… why would any master share these things with the HELP!!
He blundered his way through Europe just like he will blunder his way in making this nation the pride of every other 3rd world country by making the rest of us work harder to keep the wealthy in the style of living for which they’ve become accustomed like making us pay 2,000 more a year to give 5Trillion more to the rich…so much for worrying about the debt!!!!
This is the kind of guy you support, these are the underhanded dealings of the Republican Party (of which I used to belong) for the last two years let alone the 40 years that they stood behind these very values (if that’s what you call it)…
and you have the audacity to feel that I should give a d@mn what you think!!! LOL
RamRod Father, just one more Govt. leech!!
So, Rodie_Father...(#1.86)....What you're saying is your proud you got yours and it's peachy keen that everyone else got hosed ???
But tell me, What did your reply have to do with the premise of my comment :
P.Obama being responsible for every Cancer death in the future for all SOLYNDRA employees that got fired when P.Obama's Signature Green Energy Company went belly-up ????
Ryan....pledges to take economy down and act like the like Taliban the night Obama took the oath to be president!
Paul Ryan was one of the 14 repub politicians who met the night President Obama took office and pledged to vote against every bill that would make president Obama look good for the next election. They said they needed to act like the Taliban, like insurgents and vote against every bill just to make President Obama a one term president. Cantor, jim DeMint and the Newster were among the 14. Their pledge was the same pledge Bin Laden wrote about on how to destroy our country,....take the economy down. Traitors to our country voting against recovery from the greedy rich and bush crashing the economy. They all took the Norquist pledge putting their king Norquist above the constitution, above the laws of our nation, like traitors 95 % of republican politicians pledged to Norquist over our constitution. Ref Richard Draper book.
Vote President Obama/Biden and team America to protect our constitution
"According to reports by both The New York Times and the Associated Press, Obama voted "present" 129 times as a state senator. The AP reported that Obama said the votes represented a small portion — a little more than 3 percent — of the "roughly 4,000" votes he cast as a member of the state Senate." Factcheck.org
http://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/disclosures/visitor-records
There is no law that requires the president, any president, to turn over personal communications. The request was in reference to the White House communications regarding the Solyndra negotiations.
As of Nov. of 2011, the Energy and Treasury departments and OMB have produced more than 70,000 pages of documents to the House panel, as well as nine briefings for committee staff, Ruemmler wrote.
The Obama administration has also handed over more than 900 pages of documents that detail communications between the White House and Solyndra, company representatives and investors.
This help you out Obamanation?
For someone that spends their entire existence on blogs, spewing hate and propaganda, you'd at least think they'd learn to proof read their propaganda and use the correct words.
Thanks Scott for backing up all of that with facts that Oblahblah isn't hiding information.
Can't prove your point, just start name-calling and finger-pointing.
So why is it that we should listen to you?!??!?
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA.
I'm laughing at you.
Soooooooo.....where's your proof Oblahblah isn't hiding his emails and visitor logs?
I'll wait...........again...........holding my breath in anticipation.
Guess you've never heard of the Freedom of Information Act, vwterry.
Not to mention the fact that Oblahblah stated he was going to be transparent.
He promised to post his visitor logs.
Guess what? He didn't.
So, where's that Fulbright Scholarship application, anyways? Need proof that he didn't commit theft of taxpayer dollars applying as a foreign exchange student, since you libbies are into having to prove yourselves innocent first.
Seeking Sanity said: Brianb - we all know you don't have good sense. If you didn't try to insult me I'd know I did something wrong.
I think I'm finally figuring you out. You insult me because of the correct things I'm doing. I should look for your insults as a mark of approval then.
You are way too easy.
Romney finally announces some kind of tax plan, once examined it gives the top 5% great tax breaks and makes the middle class and poor pay higher taxes for the tax breaks of Romney and rich friends. Once exposed Romney now says his tax plan to put higher taxes on the middle class and poor is not his tax plan. Flip Flop or just using the Ol mental Mitt Wayback Machine retroactively not saying what he said? Those were your numbers you gave Mittster, you own them. Why does Mittster hate middle class and poor Americans? Because the Mittster loves $$$$ more than anything else.
Obama/Biden and Team America 2012

vwterry - thank you. Busy day at work but I hate for someone like Obamanation to post their right wing website lies and get away with them.
@ScottW430 -- You fail to remember that Congress is sworn to follow the Constitution and not the whim of an equal part of government. Congress is elected by a particular constituency to to be their voice in DC, not to be the president's puppet unless that is what they ran on. In 2010, the Republican party voters said loud and clear -- stop Obama. Besides only failed leaders blame other for their failures.
Anna Molly
@ Caesar Augustus, otherwise known as the "Tax Man," it's nice to meet you.
say what?
Way off Topic, Posters.
Who will be Romney's VP Candidate?---get back on board.
It will be Marco Rubio from Florida; a well-known name--it has to be a well-known name in this Country.
I believe, and have believed, Romney's veep choice will be "the Wisconsin weasel". Romney personally, would likely rather have either of the other 2. GOP establishment is ready for an all out conversion from the former "principled welfare nation" of FDR back, to the establishment of a full blown plutocracy, which would have been attained in the early 20th century had those efforts not brought about the crash of 29 and the ensuing "great depression". Republicans never learn, nor do they give a damn. A great, economically crushing depression is just what they hope for, which fits, and allows their efforts toward the establishment of faithful "Oligarchs" serving the rightful ruling "Plutocrat". This has always been the true purpose, and remains their greatest aspiration. One very good thing though, concerning the selection of "Ryan the weasel". As the article explaines, the selection of "the weasel" will change Mittens narrative. He will have to play more to "the weasels" extremes, relative to the destruction of all Government entitlements and programs that He wants eliminated or privatized. Now, Romneys already mounting problems become even more acute and complex. He simply does not possess the acumen of perception to speak with coherent logic of "the weasels" agenda. Course, "the weasel" could attempt a conjunction of His specialty with the meandering denials of Mittens campaign, but, such is likely to reveal agendas the republicans wish to be left under wraps for now. This is a gamble that likely will blow up in the faces of the republican establishment. The usual fools though, should not worry. "The Weasel", or either of the other 2, understand the makeup of your "duncery", and are quite capable of meeting your ongoing appetite for lies, conspiracies, illusion, and general bullsh^t.
Seeking,
Only in Libtardia can one be shown the truth but it still be called lies.
Where's your proof, Seeking.
As usual..............still waiting...........cause we can't have Obamabot Zombies actually backing up their claims.
Lordy, i hope not, DCIA -- the guy cannot carry a tune for love or money.
But wouldn't it make a great Obama commercial? All they have to do is run video of all the towns and all lives he wrecked when he was running Bain.
@ Caesar Augustus -- Say this --
Or doesn't that exactly fit your POV?
Next time, look it up.
@Rod-Father #1.43..... Three Stooges = Harry, Bo and "Squirrelly" (a.k.a. Botox Nancy) !
Ron Indiana- Per your comment that his own party doesn't like Romney, please remember that politics is a verbal chess match, played typically by egotists and self-engrandizers, with the sole purpose of making yourself look like the only human among animals. A few examples:
George H.W. Bush vs. Ronald Reagan- George H.W. Bush put forth a major campaign against Reagan, calling him inept, an actor, voodoo economics, no experience, etc. Once the smoke cleared Reagan asked him to be his VP.
The Clintons vs. Barack Obama- Since it's been a few years, here are some classic moments in teh last Democratic campaign:
Clinton said, "My opponent says that he'll take on the special interests," she said. "Well, he told people he stood up to the nuclear industry and passed a bill against them. But he actually let the nuclear industry water down his bill -- the bill never actually passed."
Obama spokesman Bill Burton said his candidate "doesn't need any lectures on special interests from the candidate who's taken more money from Washington lobbyists than any Republican running for president."
"I think that they played the race card on me. And we now know, from memos from the campaign and everything that they planned to do it all along," Bill Clinton said in a telephone interview with WHYY’s Susan Phillips. "I was stating a fact, and it’s still a fact." The former president says the comment was "used out of context and twisted for political purposes by the Obama camapign. Clinton told a reporter who asked about the radio comments, "You always follow me around and play these little games. And I am not going to play your games today. This is a day about election day, go back and see what the question was and what my answer was. You have mischaracterized it just to get a another cheap story to divert the American people from the real urgent issues before us, and I choose not to play your game today."
"Change We Can Believe In", a key Obama campaign slogan, was meant as a slur against Mrs Clinton's personality, intended to highlight how she "couldn't be trusted or believed in when it comes to change", according to a memo seen by America's New Yorker magazine. "She's driven by political calculation not conviction, regularly backing away and shifting positions ... She embodies trench warfare vs Republicans, and is consumed with beating them rather than unifying the country and building consensus to get things done. She prides herself on working the system, not changing it," the October 2007 memo added. The memo was written by David Axelrod, a political adviser, as Obama's nomination campaign stalled against Hillary Clinton during the height of the 2008 Democratic nomination process.
Another Bill Clinton moment, “It is wrong that Sen. Obama got to go through 15 debates trumpeting his superior judgment and how he had been against the war in every year, enumerating the years, and never got asked one time — not once, ‘Well, how could you say that when you said in 2004 you didn’t know how you would have voted on the resolution? You said in 2004 there was no difference between you and George Bush on the war. And you took that speech you’re now running on off your Web site in 2004. And there’s no difference in your voting record and Hillary’s ever since.’ Give me a break. This whole thing is the biggest fairy tale I’ve ever seen.”
The former president also takes issue with Obama's criticism of the wealthy in his bid to pay for his jobs plan and lower the deficit, saying he was able to get the rich to accept tax hikes because "I didn't attack them for their success." Obama, by contrast, has positioned himself as a class warrior for the middle class — even aligning himself with the Occupy Wall Street movement to beef up his populist credentials.
Go to 2012 and the Clintons are campaigning for Obama, Hillary is his Secretary of State, and they are buddy buddy.
So you see, character asasination is part of the game. Romney is the wosrst human ever, so is Gingrich, so is ......... Of course they are- it's the only way someone else is going to get the title bout with Obama and it's the only way Obama is going to keep his job. Obama can't run on successes, so he's going to systematically shred anyone that gets in his way.
This isn't looking very pretty for Obama at all... From Rassmussen Reports:
And that is EXACTLY what Obamacare is supposed to prevent. It is a very stark reminder of the simple fact that if you vote Romney into office, people will continue to die like this.
Now, you may not like that fact. You might want your world to be all rosy and beautiful. You are welcome to drink Romney's Koolaid. The simple fact is, people die because they do not have health insurance. People have died, and they will continue to die.
Obamacare cannot prevent deaths from happening, but it CAN do is that it can help you get diagnosed early and it will ensure that you don't go bankrupt paying for treatment.
I understand your chagrin, I really do. You don't want to be reminded of the grim facts of life. Romney is selling fairy dust and you are so desperate for the world he's painting, you hate the fact that Obama's ad tells you that it doesn't exist.
Why don't you tell us how ACORN forced Massachusetts to send those letters. Come on, really! Tell us.
David Walker if you read what I posted I said ACORN actually didn't have to force MA to send out "elect Obama" letters because we have Governor Spend-it-all Deval Patrick running this state. He is in the tank for Obama and Warren so he happily sent out the ACORN requested letters.
Go to Boston Herald. com and educate yourself. Not only is the rehashed ACORN bullying other states but so is DEMOS (who Obama himself created). Some states will have to spend hundreds of thousand in legal fees because these parasites want to rig the election.
Seeking, this is exactly what we have been asking for from Harry. Don't you see what you just did? You asked the accuser (Obamanation) to show proof but on the other side you demand that the accused (Romney) to show proof. Come on man, get your @!$%# together. This is what you do all the time. Get help sir.
Mikie,
Not saying that at all. I am saying I was smart enough to look into it and had the balls to do it. When I told others to do it, they said "I'll wait to see how it works out for you." They were too late and lost out.
In life you have 2 choices, get in the game or stand on the sidelines and watch.
I can tell Mikie that you are a watcher.
one term And Obama Will whip the floor with Romney Hood.
Actually, for employers who are still in business, since about 1985, when COBRA was passed. Departing employees and their dependents at least have to be allowed to participate for varying periods of time, which I presume is probably your situation. Many cannot afford to pay COBRA premiums, however, and when the company disappears altogether, as many of Bain's targets did, or even drops its coverage, the health plan is no longer there to support COBRA, and those employees lose coverage.
So, with that in mind, step back for a moment, Monkey Mo, and consider what you are defending. In many cases, Romney and Bain used various means to run up debt for the companies they acquired. Some of those situations involved shady Wall Street dealings. Once they had borrowed a bunch of money, they stripped it out of the company, selling off assets, taking huge amounts of cash for themselves, and not reinvesting it in equipment or technology or people. Then, when the company was weakened by the debt burden Bain would file for bankruptcy, and as part of the bankruptcy proceedings, employees would have to be laid off, and company assets would have to be sold, and essentially the company was set back for years, or in some cases went under completely. In one case, Bain raided a company for $50 million in cash and then saddled the federal government with a $44 million pension liability.
This is what you're defending. Take a REALLY good look at it.

And remember that this video was made by Newt Gingrich's SuperPAC.
If you think that you have the moral high ground, just remember that Ayn Rand herself had to rely on Social Security and Medicare.

The link I gave in my post above takes you to the visitor logs.
There is no record of President Obama applying for a Fulbright so there is no application to show. He also never applied nor has anyone else applied to Occidental College under the name Barry Soetoro.
Occidental spokesman Tranquada: Contemporary public documents, such as the 1979-80 freshman ‘Lookbook’ published at the beginning of President Obama’s first year at Occidental, list him as Barack Obama. All of the Occidental alumni I have spoken to from that era (1979-81) who knew him, knew him as Barry Obama.
Based on what praysalot? Where do you get your information from? Wait, I forgot, you don't need information... you just listen to other liberals...
What would liberals do without Newsvine?
Ron said,
"I got mine back, I have Solyndra solar panels on my house. $35,000 project, got $32,100 back in tax credits and rebates. My last 3 energy bills the last 3 months averaged $30.00 a month. Saved $500 to $600, thank you very much!"
Where do you think those tax credits and rebates come from Ron??
They come from taxpayers... you know Mr. & Ms. middle class...
You're Welcome!!
I love reading this site every morning with my coffee. The Chicago libs that troll this site on behalf of Obama and the DNC need to only ask themselves the simple question Reagan posed, "Are you better off than you were 4 years ago?" The hard factual, statistical data would indicate a resounding "NO". Debt is through the roof, unemployment is hirer than what Obama said it would need to be or he would be a one term President, poverty is hirer, foreclosures still an issue, we have significantly diminished influence in the world, and Obama wants 4 more years to do what? Continue to create a society based on class warfare....pitting the haves against the have nots, pitting employers against employees, pitting people of faith against those without. He promised Hope and Change.....my question is where is that? What have you produced Mr President that indicates to me that hope is still a possibility and that change will take place? I remember a funny slogan from the Nixon days, "Don't change Dicks in the middle of a screw, vote for Nixon is 72".....If you like Obama, enjoy the screw.
I'd probably do my work, for which I get paid pretty well, when I actually do it.
How about you? Who would there be for you to insult?
Brockton Barlow, the perfect choice for Mitt Romney's Vice-President wrote:
Earlier in the thread Brockton Barlow wrote:
Here we have Brockton saying ACORN forced Massachusetts to send out 500,000 letters, even while he's saying they didn't. Vote for Both Ways Brockton for Vice-President.
Remember, whatever it was they said, they meant it, even if they don't understand or remember what they said whenever they said whatever it was.
vwterry....
And where is the link to ALL of Oblahblah's visitors.
I know the one he released.
Where is the one WHERE HE ADMITTEDLY DROP THE FIRST THREE MONTHS OF HIS PRESIDENCY AND REFUSES TO RENDER?
OOOOOoooopppss.
Poor little libbies actually think Oblahblah is transparent with his dealings.....
Republicans seem to forget that the President was vetted for 2+ years when he ran for his first term. They couldn't find anything then so they settled on Rev. Wright and Bill Ayers and unfortunately for them nobody cared. Now they're looking for a boogyman to provide cover for Mitt's tax returns.
The President has been vetted on a national stage and the American people are familiar with him as President. Now it's Romney's turn to be vetted and that's what the tax returns are about. I can tell this tax issue is making them nervous. A lot of angry posts today and they keep trying to bring the conversation back to the standard I hate Obama talking points.
This just in -- the flu is now polling more likeable than Mitt Romney
More breaking news - The DMV has pulled ahead of Mitt Romney in popularity
What about Sarah Failin!? What about Michelle O'bachmann? What about Donald Dump?!?!
Here we have Brockton saying ACORN forced Massachusetts to send out 500,000 letters, even while he's saying they didn't. Vote for Both Ways Brockton for Vice-President.
David Walker - why the selective cut and paste job. Go to bostonherald.com and read the story for yourself. Several states are being sued by ACORN (or whatever they call themselves these days) to mail out the voter registration letters.
Massachusetts is moonbats central. Of course they didn't have to be forced to send the letters. They are all for getting this Marxist re-elected.
Hell, the Governor of MA just vetoed a bill that would have prohibited EBT debit card use for tattooes and strippers. Tax dollars paying for layabouts to get lap dances and tattoos.
Only here in the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts.
That is the @!$%#ing point of food stamps!!!! To help people pay food bills when they lose a @!$%#ing job!!!! 75% of those on food stamps are CHILDREN!!!!! What, you want them to become street urchins and beg on the streets of America like it's the Great Depression all over again???? Then SHUT UP about @!$%#ing food stamps.
Hahahahaha. The reason Democrats like me don't want the GOP back in office is because they mess up everything!!! Remember how George Bush blew Clinton's surplus on two wars and his pet tax cuts for the wealthy??? THAT is what the GOP is going to do!!! The Ryan plan ought to be plain enough for you to see; it guts the ENTIRE democratic welfare state that America has had since the New Deal, and replaces it with a plutocratic dictatorship where the rich rule and the poor languish. Is that how you want the "Land of the Free" to end up??? Do you??? I hope not. And by the way, Clinton achieved a surplus in part by higher revenues, the dot-com bubble, and spending cuts.
You've got to be kidding me... The GOP gave us NOTHING after 2010. NOTHING. No extra spending to reduce unemployment, no reasonable attempts to reduce the deficit, NOTHING. We compromised our asses off just to get things done; we compromised on the Bush tax cuts in 2010; we tried to compromise on the freaking deficit reduction deal, and your damn Republicans said NO, even when it gave them most of what they wanted!!!!
Are you that blind??? The Democrats CAVED in on deficit reduction, on the Bush tax cuts, on just about EVERYTHING. Republicans like Richard Mourdock think compromise is Democrats caving in; for God's sake he said that on CNN!!! Republicans have NO sense of compromise; they have drifted too far to the right to even think about it. Right now, right as we debate, hundreds of millions of dollars are being raised fascist fat cats like Sheldon Adelson and the Koch brothers, not just to unseat the President, but to flood the political streams of America with cash designed to wipe away every liberal, progressive, moderate Democrat and even insufficiently conservative Republicans!!! We are on the brink of losing whatever centrism, moderation, and liberalism left in this country and becoming a Third-World banana republic. How that is lost on you is beyond anyone's understanding.
Actually he should; not doing so would show his arrogance and lack of integrity. Besides, if we as a nation are going to elect him as President, shouldn't he reveal some of his personal life to us to see who we are going to name commander in chief???
23 years would be great, but I think 10 or 12 years is enough. We simply want to see his tax returns to see how he will benefit from his own tax plan and how much he's benefited from the past 30 years of trickle-down economics.
Well, at least he can finally cast away the personality of being an arrogant, self-centered bastard who doesn't think that Americans have the right to know more about him, yet he has the right to directly influence their lives.
Ladies and gentlemen, I cannot stress how important this election will be. Not just the presidential election, but congressional ones as well. If Democrats lose, everybody loses. This Republican Party is not your father's party; in the 1950s and 60s, this party used to be a lot more moderate, a lot more open to compromise and bipartisanship. Nowadays, it is a haven for fascists, plutocrats, fat cats, and right-wing extremists who want to dismantle the welfare state and take America back to the days before unions, social programs, even food and drug regulations. This Democratic Party is also not your father's party; it is a lot more biased to the right; a lot more apt to compromise, to caving in. The old Democratic Party did big, bold things, like create Social Security and Medicare. Now, we can't even pass healthcare reform without being litigated like hell. If Democrats lose the Senate and probably the White House, the entire nation will be held hostage to the whims of the far right. They will wipe out every collective union organization in the country, demolish programs like food stamps and unemployment insurance that benefit us in our hour of need, privatize Medicare and Social Security, give massive tax cuts to the wealthy, and send us back to the Dark Ages. I am not exaggerating. The Ryan budget will do all of this, and more. Choose wisely, America; please, please, do not repeat the mistakes of 2004 and 2010; we are still recovering from those catastrophes. Making the wrong choice now will haunt us for generations to come....
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
Mutt Head the twit. Oh, what a guy!! I seriously cannot undertand how he even has poll numbers. How out of it could someone be to want this lying, spineless, gutless human being as our president.
Festerhawg: First of all, it wasn't President Obama that declared the penalty on the Healthcare Act as a "tax," it was the Supreme Court that called it that. President Obama never intended it to be called a "tax." The only way Edwards could justify it was to change it to a "tax" in lieu of a penalty.
Secondly, Feisty, are you aware that someone using your "moniker" went in to one of the First Read articles yesterday and totally denounced the Democratic Party.....saying that you had gone over to the Republican Party because you had "talked to a Republican and changed your way of thinking." It was ridiculous, but we all recognized it for what it was....a troll using your title.....wish I could remember which article it was in....you'd be totally upset if you read it!!! It was a non-political article...I believe it was the one about the refinery fire in Northern California. Needless to say, those of us who read your posts regularly KNEW it was bogus!!!
Freshieee...GREAT POST as always......Fox news does what it was designed to do...lie to everyone who might believe them. Welfare for the rich is praised, and feeding the poor and their children who are starving is evil to them. Then they go to churh and tell each other how god like they are! They send the American jobs overseas and block them coming back. Then they complain that these same people , whose jobs they destroyed , are evil for not having jobs!
Didi,
Thanks for the head up! He/they were at it again further down on this thread as well!
It doesn't bother me, as I recognize desperation when I see it! lol
The right wing nitwits can't talk about their candidate so, they have to play their little troll games! ☺
One Term,
You talk about Obama zombies!~ I have been a republican from birth and later a YR. No longer! I have learned to think for myself and now laugh my head-off when i even watch FOX because the Murdock rag is so prejudice. "Fair and Balanced:" it ain't. I'm now ashamed of my party after having voted for Goldwater, Nixon and Reagan I think they would all be called libbes today by comparison to the new Nazi republican party. Just reading your unfounded post is proof enough.
when 1% now controls 42% of the wealth, up from 40% it needs to be stopped. Greed does that my friend.
And here they all are, 'the Donald's" three favorite nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie, now all competing (pandering and brown-nosing) for the affections of their secretive, misanthropic (but very wealthy) Uncle Scrooge McDuck.
Well, I suppose it could have been even sillier (if one can imagine anything sillier). Uncle Scrooge might have followed the lead of his predecessor and turned to his cousin Daffy, in Alaska.
Three cheers for the contenders: "Quack", "Quack", "Quack"!!!
Didi
The Supreme Court did not call Obamacare a tax first. It was the White House Councel that was argueing in front of the Supreme Court that called it a tax first. Don't put the wagon in front of the horse
The wages to pick 15,000 bales of cotton (4000 tons) in 1865 = cost of Michelle Obama's jacket.
I know why Mutt is not releasing his tax returns.
He knows he will not win the election and he does not want everyone to know his personal business. He does not want to be President. He is a Palin wannabe, he wants to go on the stupid FUX News circuit pretending to a be genius to the idiots that lap that chit up.
Romney...the pitiful last of the republican candidates. The strawman that repubs say they need to just sign the bills. When announced as there candidate leftover choice one of the republican leaders was asked if he supported Romney. He answered , "Everbody should like him, he has been on both sides of every issue one time or another!"
Romney will choose Herman Cain because Cain has a hiding place for Romney's money in offshore account in BeckyBeckyBeckystan!
Vote Obama/Biden 2012
But precedent for this has already been set:
Vice President Dick Cheney, whose penchant for secrecy is well known, has eliminated any public record of his guests and their visits. He fought off the General Accounting Office when it sought the names of oil, coal and utility lobbyists with whom Cheney had met privately to discuss the energy policy that he was fashioning for the Bush Administration — a practice ultimately upheld by the Supreme Court.
Get that? ... upheld by the Supreme Court. So, BY LAW, he doesn't have to disclose them. And it was proven by a Republican. So, in fact, it was Dick Cheney who "told the American people to go f**k themselves."
Good for the goose, good for the gander!
Maxxi Pad,
I know that, I said thank you very much. You are ok with Romney Hood stealing your tax dollars and not saying thank you but when a program gets offered and I step forward and assume the risk involved, it's not ok?
The real story is that Romney is having trouble deciding between the actual three finalists.
1- Adolph Hitler’s Great Grandson
2- Benito Mussolini’s Great Grandson
3- Joseph Stalin’s Great Grandson
Although all three are devote extremists like all Republicans these days, it seems none of these candidates are “Conservative” enough. Fortunately they have all promised to convert to the Mormon religion, so that should make Romney’s choice less painful…….
What the Hell has gone wrong with this country? What happened to our fundamental belief in free speech?
Those who voted to collapse so many of the above comments should move to Iran. God knows they should not be here.
I find BigAl Las Vegas' comment @1.154 outrageous and despicable but I'm not going to vote to delete it. I'll defend to my death his right to say it.
Ben,
My definition of a troll is the Rat in the Movie, "Ben."
Gilbert,
Here we go again! The usual right wing "Love it or leave it" comments. You're an embarrassment to people with the same name. Like Me! that is the ultimate slap in the face against free speech!
clwyd: @1.157 presumably referencing mine @ 1.555 although I am "Gil" not "Gilbert"
"! that is the ultimate slap in the face against free speech!"
What the Hell are you talking about? Do you have a problem with free speech?
Paul Ryan, Sarah Palin, John McCain, Deja Vu -- all over, again...
Anna Molly
I would prefer less name calling and insults on Newsvine, it gets tiresome.
partisan trolls and numerous collapsed comments... just another day on msnbc
Gil, Telling people they should move to Iran and that "God knows they should not be here! goes beyond free speech!" See you say,"What the H Am I talking about, when you don't realize what you've said! Dense?
Vote for President Obama because the survival of the middle class depends on it!
Right. There is no doubt we can just raise taxes on the rich and solve all our problems. Obviously the entire Democratic Party is in the same dark room with Obama, wandering around trying to find the light switch.
Rick - we all know its those 1%ers who are only paying well over half of the indivicual income taxes that is the root of the problem. Raise taxes on them then everything will be fine - unemployment will magically drop to under 5%, the deficit will shrink, and foodstamp recipients will drop to 10MM from the 50MM it is now. And GDP growth will jump to 4% or more.
There is no doubt its a start, and there is no doubt cutting taxes for the rich hasn't worked, and there is no doubt that Romneyhood's plan puts more burden on the middle class. Heck, even Bush cut middle class taxes too, Romneyhood wants to RAISE them...go figure
vote for the President rick...you will feel sooo good afterwards....we'll leave the light on for ya
Then why did Oblahblah just pass the highest tax increases on the lower and middle class in US History???
Oooooopppsss.
Chris-keep that fantasy going, you will need it come Nov.
i cant vote for baraak.
...he was never qualified to be our president in the first place....and his failures prove it.
While I appreciate Ryan's attempts to even look at our fiscal problems, I'm not keen on the solutions he's come up with so far. I would prefer another governor in the White House as I think they're more in touch with the realities of budgeting vs social needs.
If only the GOP could divorce themselves from the DoD cash cow, we'd have a lot more to spend on things that keep the country running. That's the main reason I'm leaning Democrat at the moment.
What I find hillarous is taht so many lower wage Republicans support tax cuts for the rich. Really? Where do you think we are going to make up that money? Yeah that is right, we the middle and lower classes will pick up more of the bill and get less. It is almost like these back country rednecks think by voting republican that the rich 1% will invite them in to their country clubs.
Also for my friends who are republican and think that mexicans are taking our jobs, take a look at what Romney's H1 visa program looks like. That is right, we will legally ship well educated workers from China and India to take middle class jobs for less pay. How nice would that be for the 1%, have cheep labor on the lower and middle ends now!
Disastrous vice presidential candidates that have been proposed.
UW--where have you been?? We have been doing that for years. It isn't any better, nor will it be, under any President. They want to destroy the middle class. It is just about, mission accomplished!!
"these back country rednecks"
..do you have to use racist slurs to make your point vw-db14 ?
UW.
Do you think the rich are going to pay for the abortion known as Oblahblah care?
Newsflash for you. The rich can afford health insurance.
Guess who can't...............yep, the lower and middle class.
So much for that supporting the middle class and sticking it to the rich, eh?
Obamanation, try using a well know site called politicfact, it's been shown numerous times that it is not the largest tax increase in US history by a long shot. It WAS proven that Romney's plan WILL raise taxes on the middle class by $2000 a year, that's about $40 a week and $166 a month. What will hurt more the wealthy paying 2% more over $250K or the middle class who is currently struggling to maintain themselves?
The GOP, Fox, Rush all the right wing talking heads have you all brainwashed to think that the rich deserve to pay less taxes and that trickle down works. For once try looking up facts instead of being spoon fed information and believing it, trickle down doesn't work because companies are making more and saving more they are NOT reinvesting. Finally think about this, you get all your information from sources that have an agenda, that tends to make you start thinking a certain way(if you don't do your own research and take their word for it). Think for yourselves and turn Rush and Fox off.
Politifact...........run by the Tampa Bay Times...........the most liberal newspaper in Florida.
Proven to be wrong NUMEROUS times.
Yeah.....I'll hold their opinions close to my heart.
Romney is like a bad horror flick, if you seen one, you seen them all, one lie after another. this Clown must go to the dentist every day for footInMouth disease !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How's the middle class been doing after 3 1/2 years of Obama? And he's going to save it? What has he proposed that is going to save the middle class? Was it the $1 trillion for shovel ready jobs that he actually had the audacity to joke about not being so shovel ready? The only thing the libs have been banking on is raising taxes on those making more than $250,000. Say, he passes that, how is that going to help the middle class. As long as Obama continues to spend the money we don't have the only thing he will do is drive the country into the ground. Have you spent your way out of debt? Heck, if everyone paid twice as much in taxes every year we'd still be running up the debt at a higher rate than Bush did. How does spending more money on interest payments going to help the middle class? The fact is that there has been nothing that Obama has done that has helped the middle class, the rich, the poor or the economy. About the only people he has helped are his supporters who have gotten tons of money for producing nothing. Think Solyndra. And there's a lot more of them than you'd care to think about.
I'm curious about a few things wth reference to Obama.
First off, I remember in 2008 when he said to Hillary at one of the Democratic debates, that he sometimes "wonder(ed) who (he) was running against." That was a slam on Bill Clinton for his participation in Hillary's campaign. Obama's people also played Clinton up to be a racist, with a goodly amount of help from NBC's late News Chief, Tim Russert.
So, my question here is; why is Obama giving Clinton so much "play" at the convention, and why is he depending so much on Bill to deliver middle of the road Democrats in November, when in fact he and his people hate Bill Clinton to the core? Isn't it funny how things have changed in four years. Obama didn't want Hillary on the ticket in '08' because he was afraid that Bill would overshadow him.
But, it would seem that Bill Clinton is still the patriarch of the Democratic party. That must drive Obama nuts!
Secondly, I'd like to know why the media allows the Obama camp to openly question whether or not Mitt Romney paid his taxes.
But, it doesn't question Obama's close associations with a domestic terrorist, a federally convicted political racketeer, and a cult leader/racist.
To me, if one is fair game, the other should be also.
And lastly, I'm curious as to why Obama took such a negative tone with his campaign in 2012, after promising "change" in 2008. He was the one who said Republicans try to win elections by bringing up small issues that don't matter.
But, it looks like he's the one bringing up things (like Romney's tax returns) that have absolutely nothing to do with the issues that affect the lives of Americans on a day to day basis.
Romney caught lying about when he left Bain again! And now another reason why he must show his taxes.
Romney Persona Non Grata in Italy for Bain's Deal Skirting Taxes
By Jesse Drucker, Elisa Martinuzzi and Lorenzo Totaro - Aug 5, 2012 10:01 PM
Mitt Romney skipped Italy on his swing through Europe. That was probably prudent.
That's because Bain Capital, under Romney as chief executive officer, made about $1 billion in a leveraged buyout 12 years ago that remains controversial in Italy to this day. Bain was part of a group that bought a telephone-directory company from the Italian government and then sold it about two years later, at the peak of the technology bubble, for about 25 times what it paid.
Romney Persona Non Grata in Italy for Bain's Deal Skirting Taxes
Aug. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Bloomberg's Peter Cook reports on a leveraged buyout deal by Bain Capital in Italy 12 years ago that remains controversial to this day as the company made about $1 billion on the deal while avoiding taxes. He speaks on Bloomberg's "In The Loop."
Bain funneled profits through subsidiaries in Luxembourg, a common corporate strategy for avoiding income taxes in other European countries, according to documents reviewed by Bloomberg News. The buyer, Italy's biggest telephone company, now has a total market value less than what it paid Bain and other investors for the directory business.
In Italy, the deals have spurred at least three books, separate legal and regulatory probes and newspaper columns alleging investors made a fortune at the expense of Italian taxpayers. Boston-based Bain wasn't a subject of the inquiries, which didn't result in any charges.
The sale of the government's directory business is "a dark chapter in the country's privatization history, one that has hurt Italians deeply," said Bernardo Bortolotti, an economics professor at Turin University who advised the Italian Treasury on asset sales from 2002 through 2005. "It was a mistake from the start, damaged by a lack of transparency and the use of offshore funds."
Personally Involved
While few ordinary Italians realize the link between Romney and the investor group, the deal symbolizes Italy's economic woes and government futility as the nation struggles to convince investors that it can repay Europe's second-largest debt without a bailout. The economy is in its fourth recession since 2001 and unemployment is at a 13-year high.
Romney himself probably earned more than $50 million, and possibly as much as $60 million from the Italian directory sale of Seat Pagine Gialle SpA, according to a person familiar with the matter. The deal turned into one of the biggest windfalls of his tenure.
"With this investment, Mitt Romney and Bain Capital, with its consortium partners, partnered with a new management team to transform this company, and grow it into a tremendous success,"said Michele Davis, a spokeswoman for Romney's presidential campaign. "Mitt Romney is running for President to put that experience to work."
'Burned' Investors
As Bain's CEO from 1984 to 2001, Romney was personally involved in the deal at various points, including the initial decision to invest. He attended at least one meeting about it inBoston, according to a participant. When Bain sold the directory business in 2000, Romney, while still holding the title of CEO, was in charge of preparations for the 2002 Winter Olympics inSalt Lake City. Romney has contended that he gave up management control of Bain in February 1999 to run the games.
"Mitt Romney and Bain played the role of successful financial speculators at the peril of the Italian government and the small stock-market investors who were burned by the sharp decline in Seat (PG) shares," said Giovanni Pons, a journalist for la Repubblica and co-author of "L'Affare Telecom" (2002), which recounts details of the Bain deal.
The use of offshore subsidiaries to avoid taxes has been standard practice for private equity firms such as Bain, as well as other big U.S. companies such as Google Inc. (GOOG), Facebook Inc. and Cisco Systems Inc.
Most Republicans do not support Romney they just hate the fact that a Black man is telling them what to do.
Lets not for get Romney was playing "RAMBO" in Vietnam, France said "RAMBO the CLOWN" made a big time splash with their "CHICKEN POPULATION" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OBAMA / 2012 "GUARANTEED"
obama is an idiot and a horrible president.
....just because he half black does not give him a free pass to be a jackass
Word has it (as Harry Reid would say) that Obama is responsible for the murder suicide of a family of 4. Apparently, an employee from one of the GM dealerships that Obama was responsible for closing was so distraught that he killed his family and himself.
stay tuned as this story develops....
Wouldn't that be refreshing...
@keck
So what's your excuse?
Keck 2.23, you're getting to be a Cyberbully like that Clown Romney !!!!!!!!!
cyberbully? LOL... look at your left leaning buddies and you'll see bullying.
Romney does photo op going to a hardware store and grocery store.....TOO FUNNY. Billionaire trying to pretend he is a cast member of "This Old House!" Well "This Old Romney" fooled no one by buying whatchamacallits and thingys. I wonder how many left handed crescent wrenches and left handed screwdrivers the hardware guys sold him!!!!! Then he went to grocery store....did he buy some common cookies like he hated when he complained about when sitting down with common folk? So he whines about cookies that were store bought, and pretends to be a common man buying store bought food.TOO FUNNY!
There is no way being a gazillionaire and trying to do photo ops as "This Old Romney" flies with the public. Romney, you are not one of us with all your tax evading offshore accounts. Show us the tax documents!
Vote Obama/Biden 2012
Hey Right Wing Nut Jobs you keep asking for things you know are true.
You're all crazy.
Use your brains
Q: Are Obama’s early records “sealed”?
A: No. Many records that presidential candidates don’t ordinarily release do remain confidential, but they are not “sealed” by a court. The 16 claims in a widely distributed graphic are mostly false or distorted.

The 8.3% unemployment rate is because of the TeaWackos we have in Congress !!!!!
I wonder who will be chosen? Mo, Larry or Curly.
Romney brings up the compassion of people are suffering.....He is not talking about HUMANS. He is thinking that CORPORATIONS ARE PEOPLE TOO are suffering. The record profits for them should be even higher! Oh the humanity!!!!..."Corporations are people too" are suffering!!!!! Romney and Paul Ryan for giving more tax breaks to the rich and stealing from the middleclass and poor to pay for them.
Vote President Obama/Biden and Team America 2012
Tom111:
How could it be disastrous as you say, "Romney has picked these 3 candidates".
It has not been announced yet by Romney---
"Bo", "Harry" and "Squirrelly" were previously chosen in error .... that is why we have a further run-up in national debt to $16 trillion, no budgets and no plan for the future. It's why unemployment is still quite high at 8.3%.
OMG ! = Obama Must Go. One Big Ass Mistake America.
Funny how liberals think allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire on the top earners is going to be a windfall for the government. The 80 billion a year that will bring will keep the federal government operating for a day. The Democrats have yet to find one dollar of spending they are willing to cut, short of the defense budget. They won't even cut the Harry Reid supported cowboy poetry festival. But even eliminating the entire defense budget wouldn't bring Obama's trillion dollar annual deficits into balance. Unless we start with reforms, nothing will ever change. Giving Washington more money, is just more money wasted. Talk is cheap, and all Washington has been doing for decades is talking.
America, a nation dependent on "others"!
I love it!!! The liberal sheep are all saying:
1. Romney is a murder.
2. Romney is a tax evader.
3. Romney is a fraud.
4. Romney is a Bully and a whimp at the same time.
5. Romney is robin hood in reverse.
Now we just need to add a few more traits and he would be the idea hero of all liberal/progressive/socialists:
A liar and total loser. A college drug addict flunky that never paid for his college because, he had a minority grant for being a foreign student. Doesn't have a legal social security card number.
and lets not forget a very good trait being a Chicago thug (very desirable, my hero).
I have now described the most desirable human traits that liberals/progressives/socialists.
Forward Idiots!!!
@Patriotic American USA - First, change your name, you are an insult to anyone who truly is a patriotic american. Second, you seem intent, like Obama, on blaming all the countires ills on republicans or past presidents. Seems to me that when the entire government was run by democrats that teh economy was not improving at all, no jobs were being created and generally, nothing was being done for the lower and middle classes. However, our president was making sure that CEO's had plenty of cash to ensure bonuses to their already overpaid higher up staff. Additionally, where does Michelle get off buying a jacket that costs more than I can make in two months!?!?! Democrats are nothing but hypocrites that will lie and cheat their way into power, raping the very people they are claiming they want to help. I see so many comments on here about far right talking heads. Well, at least they aren't spewing lies and hate like the FAR LEFT TALKING HEADS! Seems to me that the brain washed people on here are lefties that have their blinders on and block out anything but what the far left says. I find it disgraceful just how many people will go to an extreme on here, calling names of the current candidates, i.e. Fiesty, showing nothing but their ignorance instead of shutting their rederick spewing mouths and actually looking at BOTH SIDES of the fence and making and educated decision. Oh, wait, that would mean there is at least some assemblance of intelligence there too, so sorry. It is my sincere hope that the silent majority stand up in Novemeber and vote intelligently and not like far left idiot morons.
That $850 billion over 10 years, however, will reduce deficit by roughly 15%. And by the way, the Democrats already voted for $2.2 trillion in spending cuts, with no revenues, and half of them come from discretionary spending. Seems like it's time to find some revenues....
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
Why is Romney hiding his tax statements? In 2009 the IRS struck a deal with Swiss banks to reveal accounts of the rich who were hiding assets in those Swiss banks to avoid paying taxes. The rich crooks had to come clean or face prosecution. Under President Obama the IRS has the tools to go after the tax cheats. Here are some of the tax cheats. This is why the extreme rt wing rich are against President Obama and Team America. They are being made to pay their taxes!!!!
http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=110092,00.html
Vote President Obama/Biden and Team America!!!! 2012
Isn't it interesting that every president, except ex-President Bush, voted for a tax increase to fund the wars during their terms? The fact that this was NOT done by the last administration is the biggest reason we're in the mess we're in now. We can thank Grover and the GOP for this wonderful mess.....
You HAVE to pay for wars that you start, and the only way to do that is to raise taxes!! Unfunded wars are a drain on the economy, and that's what happened. It'll take many years to pay for that war and its aftermath....and I don't think Romney has ANY idea on how to do that except to cut jobs and put more people out of work while he adds to the Defense budget!! Of all the departments that DON'T need more money, the Defense Department is the main one. They can do just as well with what they have currently. That is, unless Romney plans on starting another war in Iran???? I certainly wouldn't put it past him in the least....and if he doesn't raise taxes to pay for that; guess who will end up paying (just as we're still paying for Bush's wars)....sure, it'll be the taxpayers, and generally, the middle class will get the brunt of it!!
The ONLY way to gain revenue is NOT to keep cutting jobs (which adds to each state's welfare rolls and unemployment rolls), but to raise taxes....even just a few cents on everyone.
I hope Romney picks Ryan. His budget plan sucks so bad it will be interesting to load up on him. The only good thing I can say about Ryan is that he has pretty eyes.
Since there are a lot of libs here, please tell me why I should vote for Obama. What has he done to help the economy, balance the budget, put people back to work, etc. And these are the easy questions. As far as I can see, the only reason anyone has come with is "it's Bush's fault" and it's the republican's fault. Not sure for what because that hasn't been spelled out either. Regardless, WHAT HAS OBAMA DONE TO HELP THE ECONOMY?
The only reason I ask is I can't find anyone who will even attempt to answer the question, let alone give an intelligent answer. So, what has Obama done to help the economy and what has he proposed that will help the economy?
DIDI you need to change your name to Dodo. More taxes, are you really that stupid! Do You really think we don't pay enough in TAXES! You people need to get your heads out of your obama shrines statues ASS and see what's real! This country spends to much and squanders more money on useless programs and departments that over look the same thing. We can start by defunding the UN,EPA,NTA and especially the World welfare Bank. Let's start by putting a box on everyone's taxes that states,I'm an idiot and I want to pay more Taxes. If you want to pay more taxes go ahead DODO but leave me The Hell out of your John Lennon imaginary world that doesn't exist. One question, Have any of you Left Wing Idiots ever gotten a job from a Poor man? If you've ever had a job!I didn't think so.
Well, seeing that taxes are at their lowest in 50 years, yes. Everyone, especially the rich are not paying enough in taxes. I just say let the Bush tax cuts expire, let us go back to the Clinton rates, and THEN we can cut more spending (since we already have $2.2 trillion in cuts).
Defund the EPA??? What the hell is wrong with you??? And end the UN-what the hell is with you??? The EPA keeps our air safe, the UN manages international affairs (plus we don't even control it), and the World Bank helps developing nations. If we want to cut spending, how about we simply combine several agencies that do the same thing, cut the defense budget, fix (not privatize or block-grant) entitlements, and eliminate waste via advice from the Simpson Bowles commission.
Look man, the ONLY way we are gonna get out of this damn mess is if we cut spending AND raise taxes. What part don't you understand?? Tax revenues are lower than the 18% average; repealing the Bush tax cuts would push it up to 23%; that would REALLY reduce deficits. And EVERYONE has to contribute, both with less benefits and higher taxes.
Yes: the demand from the poor (and the middle class) creates jobs. Rich people do not create jobs; they merely take advantage of the fact that middle and lower class people are willing to pay money for certain products. Tax cuts will not create jobs; spending money on infrastructure will. The rich are not job creators because they don't create the demand necessary to sustain employment; you and me are the job creators. Demand creates jobs, and the middle class has the most demand.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
manuel: You also missed a very important point. didi obviously doesn't know what she's talking about because she is clueless about how are system of government works. Look at her first statement :"Isn't it interesting that every president, except ex-President Bush, voted for a tax increase to fund the wars during their terms?" I'm certainly willing to bet, and any amount she wants to put on it, that no president has ever voted for a tax increase, whether to fund wars or otherwise. I'll leave it at that. I'm sure you understand what I'm saying, but I doubt that she does.
Although there are many good Americans posting on this vine today there also seems to be a huge infestation of paid Carl Rove trolls too. My advise to the actual human beings on this vine: DO NOT respond to these right wing prostitutes because when you do they get paid.
I vote for Paul Ryan. Oh, I thought we were picking the biggest douchebag of the three...
doesn't matter who he picks...mitt-witt will lose anyway........The country has moved on...NO GOING BACK!.......Obama/Biden.......then HILLARY IN 2016!!
These have been my thoughts for the past few months concerning Romney and they are proving relatively accurate through his dealings with overseas entities and failure to release tax returns which shows that Romney has a past in-and-of itself that will be exposed to the American public as not only criminal, but also morally reprehensible.
Regarding the TAX Scandal, I believe John McCain spoke to Harry Reid and may have told him about his not paying TAXES which would have been the reason he chose the Caribou over the Vulture.
Romney will be backed so far in the corner that the RNC will have to find an alternative come Labor Day. Is that even possible? And will the Caribou outshine the Vulture?
Republicans (working poor and middle class) that wish to vote against their best interests need to realize that Romney does not have your best interest in mind. If he would be elected to some sort of office with authority over you, he would use his position to crush you. It would be no different than a certain dictator on some northern Asian peninsula.
like the leader we have now????
Wow.....so you have just as much proof as Harry Reid supplied............which is nothing.
LouisJ
that will be exposed to the American public as not only criminal, but also morally reprehensible.

LouisJ
Wouldn't it be nice if it true Maverick would do the right thing and make sure that scavenger never flies again?
BTW: McCain has been mighty silent here lately about those taxes
The problem though, Louis, is that Obama doesn't have our best interests either. He may have initially, but his bumbling incompetence has only made things worse. Both parties look to what happened in Wisconsin and have taken away the wrong message. The Dems believe that they lost because they were outspent and out manuvered; the GOP believes they won because they have the support of the people so full steam ahead. Neither realize the real lesson was that it wasn't so much a "win" as scooting by due to the power of the incumbancy.
If either party could find a candidate that sincerely works for the people, ALL the people - not just the section that lobbies the hardest or has come to their attention, they would win in a landslide regardless of party affiliation. Right now we have Mitt "I support the wealthy businessman" Romney and Barak "Welfare King" Obama in the running. Right or wrong those are the perceptions, and most people simply don't identify with either group. Best thing the dems could have done would be thank Obama for his service and run someone else. Best thing the GOP could have done was keep looking. Frightening to think that someone out there believes these are the best our country has to offer!
keck
i cant vote for baraak.
...he was never qualified to be our president in the first place....and his failures prove it.
keck,
Just what has MYTH Romney accomplished besides being being the laughing stock of the world, a vulture capitalist and a proven liar ?
Got Universal Health Care (something no other President has done )
Advanced women's rights in the work place
He's done a lot for veterans
He got help for people whose health was injured during the clean-up after the 9/11 attacks.
Ended Don't Ask, Don't Tell (DADT) in our military
Stopped defending DOMA in court.
Passed the Hate Crimes bill.
Appointed two pro-choice women to the Supreme Court.
Dodd-Frank
He's killed Osama Bin Laden
Eliminated several other Al-Qaeda leaders
Ended the War in Iraq
Begun the drawdown of forces from Afghanistan
Overhauled the credit card industry, making it much more consumer-friendly.
FYI: None of these accomplishments were on the right wing nut jobs Republicans in Congress. Neither is it on MTYH Romeny's radar. Our President has achieved a tremendous amount under the circumstances of having the worst Congress in history.
Beverly, Obama did NOT end the war in Iraq. He was constrained by a Status of Forces Agreement, made by Bush, in November of 2008. This particular SoF Agreement was notable in that it was the first time an end date had ever been specified in such an agreement. Obama had to end things or face sanctions from violating that agreement. If you go back and look, in October 2011 Obama was trying to negotiate to stay longer and Iraq wouldn't have it. If you're unwilling to look up even the most basic of information about things then it makes everything you've posted sound suspect.
Bev of course he is silent, he knows that Reid is right. Hell, I'm right and can't wait to see the evidence.
Mo... Ron Paul!!! Yippee, I can see it now when he goes to Texas as the president to speak to the first state of the United States of Secession and offers an olive branch to President Perry...
President Perry asks, "Can I help you with cain?"
President Paul replies, "My VP Herman Cain?"
"No, the cain that helps you walk."
"When the seeds of hatred is spread by the path with which bigotry walks, there is no reasoning with those that willingly walk on it." ~Louis J
wow
Bev, lay off the crack.
what has he done for vets?
Dodd-Frank so you admit that obama supports destruction of the housing industry?
Advanced womens rights in the workplace? Huh, wasn't one in his admin under paid compared to a male counterpart.
Credit industry more consumer friendly? do you leave the house LOL or are you confined to First Read?
Willard the Clown = "DUST BOWL" This Bozo is not worthy of walking his dog !!!!!!!!!
At least he's not eating the dog ! Where is Bo ? Has anyone seen Bo lately ?? Fricassee of pooch ???
Monkey ---- why is it the few times Pres Bush did something right he HAS to get the credit but when the wrong comes up out comes the old "Blame Bush" screamers. Kind of two-faced is't it?
Mitt's choice here is actually pretty important. If, God forbid, he did win one of these guys probably would be President within a year.
The whole brouhaha over Mitt's taxes isn't going to go away. Even if he does successfully stall and doesn't release them before the election, they will eventually come out. Most of you are speculating that it would be too embarrassing for a presidential candidate to make tens of millions per year and pay next to nothing through creative accounting. I think there's something more nefarious at play.
1) Why did Mitt have a Swiss bank account? He claims it was there for purchasing Swiss francs as he engaged in speculation against the American dollar. That's patriotic. But since when do you need a Swiss bank account to speculate on foreign currencies? Did any income arising from said speculation make its way into an FBAR report? If so, for how many years? How much?
2) The aforementioned Swiss bank account was closed in 2010. Did Mitt avail himself of the IRS's 2009 partial tax amnesty on bringing unreported foreign accounts home? If so, it proves he was avoiding paying his taxes. If not, then where did all that money go? Talk about a rock and a hard place for a presidential candidate. It's flat out proof that you're a big-time tax cheat.
3) A $100 million IRA? How is that even possible? Even if Mitt contributed the absolute legal maximum $30,000 per year, outside of sprinkling magic Mormon dust on it, there is no way that accumulates into $100 million. Or, did Mitt illegally use a special IRS "safe harbor" rule relating to the taxation of a service in order to stuff far, far, far more into his retirement plans each year than the maximum allowed by law by claiming that the stock of the Bain company deals that the retirement plan acquired had only a nominal value. Now that's a tax cheat!
4) How did Mitt put together such a low effective tax rate? I want Mitt to stand up and explain to Joe Sixpack why it's proper that his "carried interest" income is taxed at half the rate of common everyday American workers. Oh, that's right, managing other people's money is much harder work than what the common manual laborers do. I'm sure he could explain it to the little people.
5) Exactly how did Mitt put together the huge Romney family trust funds? Did Mitt report and pay gift tax on the funding of these trusts or did he claim unreasonable valuations, which would expose him to serious penalties if all the facts are known?
At this point you might ask, but if any of that were true, why would he even consider running for president? I really don't know. Maybe someone could ask John Edwards what the thought process is that makes you believe you can encounter presidential candidate scrutiny and still hide your secrets. Nevertheless, the opaque candidate really needs to release his returns and answer the questions. Nixon resigning in disgrace will be nothing compared to a former President in a pin-striped jumpsuit.
Jim, maybe you should check the roof of Mitt's car for Bo.
"Everything was fine," McCain told reporters on Capitol Hill. "I can personally vouch for the fact that there was nothing in his tax returns that would in any way be disqualifying for him to be a candidate."
When pressed about whether Romney might be shielding his returns because he paid no taxes, McCain refused to discuss such specifics.
"Please, I am not going to get into that kind of conversation," he said. "All I can tell you, and I can tell you again, is there was nothing disqualifying in his tax returns. And that is a fact."
The fact that McCain would not comment further says it all if you ask me.
It doesn't matter who Romney picks as a VP, the liberal attack machine will keep things focused on Gay marriage and abortion. Meanwhile, the American public has to get up an go to work or find a job and realize that those two issues don't solve anything for them. Obama has no record to run on and most people think the president despises the very country that elected him. Obama is pandering to the people who cannot help themselves and want more government handouts. What did Obama have to say about the Mars rover mission? Nothing, because he despises NASA. The sooner that you realize that both parties have nothing but contempt for you, the middle class, then sooner you will be set free.
Well something was obviousley wrong with Romney or McCain would have had him on the ticket, bet he really wishes he had at least tried that brand instead of the travesty he ended up with. I used to respect McCain, then he was no longer a radical and I read of his affair with his now wife and how he treated his real wife - (and no, Bill Clinton or John Edwards get no pass from me on their adultry, a whore monger is a whore monger - the men, and the women are whores, regardless of political party, that includes Newt, the Gov of SC and Rudy too).
I sure hope it will be Ryan. We in Wisconsin can't get rid of this rich nut case fast enough. He wan's to destroyer of Medicare and Medicaid which, for many, is their only life line! They are all losers and Mitt is the same.
And JFK?
Romney does draw some very strange characters !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I predict Romney will pick a lesbian employee of a Chick-fil-a restaurant. That way he can flip every way a fella could flop.
Aw, shucks, you just want to wear his magic underwear.
Caesar,
Do you know who authored the bill that reversed the legislation?
Phil Gramm, remember that pompous azzhat from Texas?
Old man, I never said anything about Bush being wonderful. Personally I think the man was a screaming drunken idiot. However, if you are going to claim that someone did something, you need to have your facts correct - it's as simple as that. I personally think Obama is a nightmare at least on par with Bush, but he absolutely has done a few positive things in his administration as well. Abolishing the DADT policy is an easy one that comes to mind. If you are unwilling to do the legwork to place credit or blame appropriately, then in addition to being lazy, everything you state is subject to question.
I usually go with the candidate who I feel is the best choice in candidates but really, I feel that Romney is totally the wrong candidate for President. It is too bad the media spun Ron Paul the way they did. He was the only candidate who stuck to the issue in every debate. But, he's old and his wife isn't the greatest looking woma and these assets apparently weigh heavily on a candidate selection. I will still write him in though. Last election I swung with Obama but, oh my God, what a mistake and let down he turned out to be. As for these possible choices in VP, none of them are worth my vote too.
@ Beverly in Chicago Take off your blinders and thing again.
He's done a lot for veterans - I am a veteran, JUST WHAT HAS HE DONE?? Reduced my retirement pay.. that was a great help!!
Ended Don't Ask, Don't Tell (DADT) in our military - Big deal I think that was more in the courts though.
He's killed Osama Bin Laden - REALLY??? I didn't see him in camos with a gun. I did see him sitting a room watching a monitor though.
Eliminated several other Al-Qaeda leaders - See Killed OBL
Ended the War in Iraq - Someone else covered this one. Amazing how he blamed Bush for things that went bad but claims things that were good to be his.
Begun the drawdown of forces from Afghanistan
Overhauled the credit card industry, making it much more consumer-friendly. - Really, did he actually go out and right up all the new regulations?
FYI: None of these accomplishments were on the right wing nut jobs Republicans in Congress. Neither is it on MTYH Romeny's radar. Our President has achieved a tremendous amount under the circumstances of having the worst Congress in history. Neither were they Obama's. He is a fraud and a liar.
How do you know when a democrat is lying? Him/her mouth is moving!
Willard Romney's taxes is the knat that will not fly away! He needs to "Put up and Shut-up"!
A tax evader, etch a Sketch cannot demand anything from anyone until he himself come clean.
I want to know how he finangled a 100 million dollar IRA and why he goes to great lengths to hide his income.
I also want to know why he doesn't answer any specific questions and only seek softball interviews on Faux news.
I would love to see him interview with Lawrence O'Donnell, or Rachel Maddow!
Give um Hell Harry!
Obama 2012!!!!
LouisJ -- Excellent point about who knows what is in Romney's tax returns, and that is the McCain team. However, McCain himself vouched that there was noting illegal (not to be confused with unethical or immoral) and assuming McCain's team did a better job of going through 23 years of immense amounts of complicated documents better than they did vetting Sarah Palin...
Still, it is very possible someone in the McCain campaign who saw those returns knows Romney did not pay taxes--once again this could be done legally and in keeping with what McCain said--but as Reid put it 'How would that look?"
The 2008 and 2009 returns that were not seen by McCain are likely the most pitiful. Folks like Romney at Bain including their inverstors know very well. Voters know Romney is a shyster, and we know he paid less than the 13.9% tax rate, which is already lower than the rate middle class Americans pay. We know that Romney's tax plan favors more of this kind of shyster activity that benefits only him and his 1% crony capitalists.
We know these things without the returns, so Romney is screwed either way -- Because we are not going to stop speculating about Romney's taxes, and we are not going to stop talking about the Tax Policy Center's review of Romney's economic/tax plans, and there could be no better time than during this Great Recession to talk about the skyrocketing inequality that Romney represents.
Romney -- He's not in it for you.
What3v -- Right. Paying little or no taxes by having a team of accountants game the system does not disqualify someone as a candidate. It just doesn't look good, especially when betting against the US for profit.
McCain just doesn't like Romney -- Who does? Romney's lying and cheating is just more reason not to like him.
Chris,
we already know that the top1% will survive with 43% of the wealth , up from 40% last year. With their greed they want Romney to increase that to 44% next year. We've got to stop them Americans. Become educated and know what is going on! Stay away from the Fox Murdock rag!

Many on the Right keep knocking the polls for over sampling, conducted by the "Liberal Media" or whatever but at some point you have to recognize that there are far too many signs that Mitt Romney is a weak candidate.
The only positive is that the economy is still is poor shape (even with the great news on housing this morning) and we are still a long way from Election Day -- 13 weeks.
Romney is a weak candidate. All he does is attack his opponents, starting in the primary and continuing in the general. He doesn't offer anything new or positive. And, when he is attacked, he's all self righteous. Not presidential material, in my book.
Dennis, I have a bit of startling news for you- and the media. . .
We are voting for president- not the American Idol winner. See, folks got fooled into that last time out- and are not really happy with the "change" they got. Turned out not to be what they "hoped" for.
Obama may be a nice guy, but we can no longer afford him.
And Barack Obama is different how?
njnb - clearly YOU are the only person who even remotely thought we were voting American idol. The rest of us take this election very seriously and all know we are electing the leader of our country for the next 4 years.
That is why the majority of Americans will again elect President Obama. He has shown he is ten times the man and leader Romney could ever be. He is honest and forthright - things no one could ever say about Romney.
Obama/Biden 2012
No, Sanity, most of the Dems I know even are interested in the ABO vote. Unfortunately that leaves Romney, who, in my mind, isn't a valid option. Either way I think we're pretty screwed.
Seeking Sanity
Heres a hint for you. Read Amatuer. It gives the true story of Obama.
Festerhawg - Mitt is a total loser and would destroy the middle class.
Hint - perhaps you should learn to read PERIOD!
Obama/Biden 2012
It's pretty funny that First Read and its posters leap on idiotic favorability polls- and ignore those that are a lot more germane to the election- like a couple that Gallup has out that do not bode well for Democrats.
First, the news that, in 2008, 36 states were either solidly or leaning democratic. Today, that number is down to 14.
Then, the party identification numbers- this really puts NBC's polling to shame- is 44% democratic, 40% republican. Four percent, not eleven, guys.
http://www.gallup.com/poll/156437/Heavily-Democratic-States-Concentrated-East.aspx
Then, this bit of news- almost twice as many Obama voters are going to switch their votes as McCain voters.
http://www.gallup.com/poll/156446/2008-Obama-Voters-McCain-Voters-Switching-Sides.aspx
Gallup, by the way, has the national polls tied- but they are still polling all adults. Do you remember what happened in 2010 when they switched to likely voters? Not pretty for democrats. Not pretty at all. They'll be making the switch to likely voters in October- at which point, I think we will need a map and a guide to find the slightest mention of their polling on this site.
As to the state polling- if you take Q's house effect into account, Romney is a lot farther ahead in Colorado, and probably a point or so in Virginia and Wisconsin- still within the margin of error. They have a nasty habit of over estimating how many democrats are in each state- which is how they had Alex Sink winning against Scott in Florida, for example. And Corzine Christie too close to call.
Obama may be a nice guy, but we just cannot afford him any longer.
Dennis, thanks for posting the latest.
We know Romney is desparate to change the subject from his taxes because he and his SuperPACS trotted out the old "welfare queen" rhetoric, including an ad so filled with lies Reuters wrote an article about it. Reagan trotted out welfare queen when it became apparent he was losing the GOP nomination the first time. Dole dragged it out when it became apparent he was losing to Clinton. Gingrich brought us "food stamp president" when it became obvious he was losing to Santorum and Romney. Romney trotted it out yesterday and from the poll numbers, it is because he is losing ground. His tax problem is NOT going away, and his disastrous foreign trip means "welfare queen" time.
What is Mitt Romney hiding?
Monkey Mo-
You must know those very rare and few Democrats who will not vote for President Obama.
EVERY poll shows stronger support for Obama by Democrats than for Romney by Republicans.
Independents are the key - and I believe that Romney's lack of charisma, honesty, and empathy combined with no real plans will lead to independents voting for Obama.
I can tell you Festerhawg: The true Obama was born in Kenya and was groomed for his current position.
We know Romney's in trouble when the right wing swoopers appear on FR with their one-liners! Too bad swoopers like Festerhawg and MonkeyMo only make it worse for Romney by proving how desparate conservatives are with their nonsensical, and totally unfactual comments. As for Snookie Joe, well, she's providing her usual anti-Obama garbage to help the swoopers prove themselves desparate.
Then there is Over 68, a birther. The right calls Reid a liar while they devour the birther lie and repeat it. Really makes conservatives look and sound pathetic.
TNSEVOL, your logic is faulty. You're stating that more dems support their candidate than repubs support their candidate. That could be 90% of dems vs 80% of repubs or 10% of dems over 8% of repubs, and has no bearing on the number of party affiliated people (registered or otherwise) who actually support their party's candidate. If we polled, for example, 100 democrats when 20% were on record as supporting their candidate, that would still leave the majority who didn't support him, even if the republicans only had 10% supporting their candidate. I do agree though about the independents being key in this election.
over 68.....We are standing on the public sidewalk, we are NOT on your lawn!

When yoou through bloviating out of your anal oriface maybe you can start reading something besides the Sunday Comics and the liberal columns that I pay for with my Tax Money and instead do your own research instead of eating the kool-aid flavored swill that you are being breast feed through a straw. On no you cant do that.... You would actually have to work for something. One things that I have observered about Liberals is that when they are losing an arguement they use one of three tools...... 1) The person you are disagreeing with is a Racist; 2) They are a member of the Tea Party or as they call us Teabaggers or 3) They try to call us idiots or question our education
Amy: Obama is a weak candidate. All he does is attack America and Americans. He hasn't made one proposal that is designed to create jobs. He has done a lot to stop job creation. He's blocked the Keystone Pipeline. He's fulfilling his promise to shut down the coal industry through regulations. He's done everything he can do to shut down our domestic oil production, all the while financing oil production in other countries. He's spent trillions of dollars to put us in debt with nothing to show for it other than putting the US perilously close to economic disaster. His rallying point seems to be to increase taxes on those making more than $250,000. This is his economic plan? You do realize that doing that won't make a dent in the deficit or help out those who make less than that. The only reason he's pushing it is to divert attention from his disastrous economic policies because his followers enjoy their 15 seconds of adrenalin from feeling like they've "socked it" to the rich. Oh, and Obama doesn't bash his opponents? Heck he makes up lies about them. At least Romney goes after opponents policies.
Jody,
Old Snook's got caught lying again last night! lol She claims to have me on 'ignore' however, as usual she can't even tell the truth about something as innocuous as that!
Good to see she still holds the title of FR's #1 BS artist! Although, lately, the competition is becoming fierce! ☺
"the liberal columns that I pay for with my Tax Money" What?????
"being breast feed through a straw." Ouch!!!!!

bayllie he lost to ron paul too but they rolled ron pauls votes over to mutt. world wide poll ron paul 92% huntman 2% romeY 2% newt 2% ricky 2% so now tell me this was not rigged the % rounded off.
Technically, the Jobs Act Obama proposed would have created over 1.3 million jobs. As for job creation, he's tried to do the one thing that will jump-start this economy-and no, it's not more tax cuts and deregulation for the wealthy-spending. Spending, primarily consumer spending, runs our economy; 70% of our GDP is consumption. So cutting taxes on investment only helps the remaining 30%. If you spend $1 billion on rebuilding a bridge and create 25,000 jobs, you create hundreds of other jobs when those construction workers go home and pay for things like food, gas, furniture, cars, etc. Demand creates jobs, not supply. Obama tried to do that with his Jobs Act, and yet the GOP filibustered it. As for the Keystone Pipeline, it's not worth the risk and effort; we'd create only 4,000 jobs (plus a few hundred more due to increased demand), we'd endanger the Ogalala aquifer (which fertilizes much of the Midwest's agriculture production), and we'd only get 2% of the oil. If they build it over a safer route AND give us at least 40%, then I'll support it. Anything else, and those Canadians can go @!$%# themselves and build it on their own damn turf.
Last time I checked, regulating the coal industry does not mean shutting it down. Why can't those coal producers just carry out with the damn regulations??? And domestic oil production is the highest in decades; while much of this is because of Bush, you cannot say that Obama is stifling oil production. And do you have proof for him financing foreign oil production???
First of all, Obama technically only spent around $1.5 trillion; the rest is due to the Bush tax cuts and the recession, but even with the tax cuts he only spent around $2 trillion. Secondly, unemployment is down from its 10.2% peak, and while 8.3% is not that great it's a helluva lot better than 10.2%. Secondly, repealing the Bush tax cuts would make a considerable dent in the long-term deficit; reducing it by perhaps 15%. Thirdly, it would help people making less than that by reducing the growth of income inequality, although the benefits will be shown in the long-term. And his economic plan is to SPEND money to create jobs, not just tax the rich.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
laboror
Nothing about Mitt makes sense but the Republicans chose their candidate and now they have to deal with Mitt "The Hardware Stuff" Romney.
It doesn't matter who Willard Romney picks, he will lose. The Electoral Vote has Obama way ahead, and the republicans should save their money and focus on 2016.
yet most americans think barry hussein has made things worse in the country. and if he gets re-elected there will be four more years of americans that cant find a job....americans on food stamps....americans having to move back in with their parents because they cant afford to live in obamas america.
people are talking about change in a positive way......they hope that romney can turn obamas damage and lack of action in america around.
i am scared about what some on the far left will do to try to keep republicans and independents from voting.
Just think, Job1,
The debates haven't even started yet, and yet they are neck-and-neck.
Pretty sad place to be if you are the incumbent.
Job1 -- You really like Nate Silver's calculations. You obviously respect and agree with his statistical analysis.
keck
You should be scared of whatever Romney is doing or not doing that will keep Independents and old school Republicans from voting for him
no. i am worried about the extreme left.
....i dont trust ultra liberals.....not around this election. dont take it personal cat....but i dont trust you either bro.
The Republicans are the leaders in voter suppression. Of course the DOJ will break this up.
The newest research from Nate has it as:
Today
“Obama chance of winning 72.0% Romney 28.0%”
Projected Winner Obama 301.5
Projected Loser Romney 236.5
------------------------------------------------------------------
My projected election Electoral Vote out come totals are:
Electoral Vote:
Projected Winner Obama 297
Projected Loser Romney 241
KECK.....
No wonder people can't find a job when Republicans block bills that would afford tax breaks to companies that insource jobs to the U.S.
Or more to the point, raise taxes on companies that outsource.
WHY WAS SUCH LEGISLATION BLOCKED?
But those little white facts are brushed aside by the people who think Romney is going to show up carrying a torch in November.
Job1 - So can I assume you hang your hat on Mr. Silver's calculations even though your predictions give Gov. Romney a little more EC votes??
Ben, Nate batted 100% in 2008 with Obama and McCain, and pretty good in 2010, and he picked pretty close in the WIS. special election. However, I still look at other factors and sources with voter trends that are happening, day by day.
"i am scared about what some on the far left will do to try to keep republicans and independents from voting."
Yeah.....that would explain why all those Democratic-controlled state legislatures are running around like crazy trying to pass all those Voter ID laws all of a sudden this year, right? Oh, wait - those aren't Democrats.
"yet most americans think barry hussein has made things worse in the country."
So then what are you so worried about? Come on, keck, you've got "most Americans" on your side, you've got the squeakiest clean, most beloved and charismatic candidate EVER in Mitt Romney, and every conservative on here will tell you that the only people still voting for Obama are me and my 13 loony liberal friends. And trust me, I couldn't threaten a gnat. So why the paranoia? You've got this one in the bag.....don't you?
Keck-
yet most americans think barry hussein has made things worse in the country. and if he gets re-elected there will be four more years of americans that cant find a job....americans on food stamps....americans having to move back in with their parents because they cant afford to live in obamas america.
All of these things you mentioned occured as a result of the Bush policies that led to the Great Recession.
I can understand being unhappy or disappointed with the economy under President Obama, but do you really believe the answer is a return to the "tax cut and spend, deregulate everyhtig" policies that caused this recession? Things are not great today, but they are CERTAINLY better than they were in 2009.
I have yet to hear anyone offer a clear distinction between Mitt Romney's proposals and the failed policies of the Bush administration. Why go backwards?
Good Morning JoAnne,
GREAT POST!!!
Job1 -- Great. Thank you for the affirmation that his calculations are statistical in nature which leaves out the our side - your side way of thinking.
So, please let's start a discussion about what an Obama second term will look like if Congress (both houses) are controlled by Republicans. Mr. Silver's calculations -- at least the latest I could find -- has the House remaining in Republican control and the Senate moving Republican by 50-49 with one I. If you through in that mix Ds like Manchin of WV, that's not looking too good for Reid, Obama and company. Yeah I know Mr. Silver's most recent calculations narrowed the gap in the Senate, but still shows that this scenario is very possible and this country will see a record breaking split ticket voting.
Where does the president go from here? Maybe with one house he can pass some "executive" orders but not with neither one democrat. What happens to this country?
Keck: It is the republicans that are refiguring and redifing voter registration. It's called making minorities and the elderly and poor disinfranchised; to make it harder to vote. Liberals want all Americans to vote, and there has not been voter fraud found over the past 10 years. Republicans are who you shoiuld be afraid of, and angry at limiting and making it difficult to participate in a basic freeom in this country. Where is your outcry to them. Would you care to show legislation regarding liberals redefining who can vote?
Cheney and Rove telling Romney what to do. If Romney was elected repubs would be in there for war profits so fast again w/out a plan other than more no bid contracts for profits. Romney still wants to visit BeckyBeckyBeckystan with Cain. 17 of 24 Romney advisors are from Bush Cheney regime. If you like lying into Iraq war the first time, Cheney ready to do another one.
Vote Obama/Biden 2012
Paul Ryan loses debate to Catholic church. Ryan plan disasterous to middle class and poor. Romney and Ryan want to kill Social Security, medicare and medicaid, the Post office and make middle class and poor pay for the new tax breaks for the rich. Ryan and Romney want to cut fiood stamps for starving children to pay for more tax breaks. The Catholic Church said NO to paul Ryan!!
Vote Obama/Biden 2012
Most of the liberal bloggers on this site are probably not old enough to remember the Carter Reagan race. Either not old enough or their history stops in the Bush years, one or the other most likely. But Carter held an 8 point lead in the polls heading into late October, but lost to Reagan by 10. Romney is closer to Obama today then Reagan was to Carter at the same time in that campaign. The entire Democratic Party was crushed like a grape the day after the election, they never saw it coming, and history is about to repeat itself.
I can see it now, Obama refuses to leave the White House claiming it was not his fault. He would have cut the deficit in half if only Reid would have sent him a budget to sign. Or he would still be president if only Romney had released his tax returns. So what if gas prices skyrocketed, when he blamed Bush that didn't mean it could ever be his fault. He tried to close Gitmo, but no one could find the key to lock the door when we left. I wanted to bring the troops home, but never found the time. Jobs, all my friends have jobs and they told me everything was fine. Michelle just ordered new drapes for the Oval Office...
It is obvious that the Romney's are tax cheats.
$77,000 for a therapy horse? Was Annie's medical condition mental or physical?
Where does the president go from here? Maybe with one house he can pass some "executive" orders but not with neither one democrat. What happens to this country?
We can't let the Republicans have all three, and we won't. As far as the Senate, the Democrats still have a good chance of holding.
The Carter Reagan race,,,ah yes..where Reagan struck a deal with the enemy who was holding hostages when Carter was president. Striking a deal with the enemy because Reagan would give them a better deal later if hostages held until aftyer elections. Funny how fast they were released because Reagan hammered on the hostage issue knowing he had made a deal with the devil. Just like Nixon, true repubs, blowing up the peace negotiations to get elected while promising other side a better deal later.
The debates haven't even started yet, and yet they are neck-and-neck.
"Most of the liberal bloggers on this site are probably not old enough to remember the Carter Reagan race"
mutt will not win unless they rigged the vote like they did against ron paul kuz ron paul supporters not going to vote 4 mutt, hillary also said she got cheated ,but they promised her a seat in the white house so she layed down, ron paul won 65% of votes rolled most over to mutt, mutt supporters counting the votes cheater, controlled by zionist and secret society cfr, they let u think your votes count so u be happy, but in real life ur the ones being fooled.
Its only my opinion, but anyone who lives in this country, and calls themselves an american, and votes to put obama in office for another term, after the deficit he has created, and public confusion an turmoil, with the healthcare law needs to see a shrink ,because he thinks there is no end to the money that the tax payer will let him throw away, think about it people, if you don"t balance your check book YOU WON"T EAT OR ANYTHING ELSE!!!!!! Where do you think all that money is gonna come from if taxpayers can"t pay for it because they are not working,if you give him another term, you deserve all that you receive, and god bless you!!! because you will need it!!!!
He might, but I don't, at least not completely. I think it has something to do with the past 30 years of trickle-down economics and deregulation, along with anti-union government policies and stagnant middle class wages.
The only things I can think of that Democrats have done to cause this mess is agreeing to Reaganomics and the repeal of crucial regulations, especially Glass-Steagall.
Technically, we can only look at the past 30 years, since the other 34 were part of the postwar boom (minus the mid-to-late 70s, which was the time of stagflation). Over those past 30 years, the Republicans tended to have control of the government for at least 18 years. Now the federal debt was at around 33% of GDP in 1980, the last year of the Carter fiscal term; by 1989 (last year of Reagan's fiscal term), it was about 53.1%. In 1993, the last year of Bush 41's fiscal term, debt was 66.1% of GDP. In 2001, the last year of Clinton's fiscal term, debt was down to 56.4%. In 2009, George Bush 43's last fiscal budget had debt at 84.2%. The debt moved to 99.6% of GDP at the end of 2011, but the main reason for that (and for the increase in the last year of President's Bush) was the recession's increase in social safety spending and drop in revenues, which were already low due to the Bush tax cuts.
Actually, considering the fact that Democrats began to go along with Republican policies in the 80s and 90s (and Bush's hold of the government in the early 2000s), the Republicans are the guilty party, since the concept of deregulation and trickle-down economics originated on the right side of the political spectrum....
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
Wrong, it was the Dumbocrats Barney Frank and Chris Dodd who started legislation and told the banks they had to start lending money to people who would never or could never pay it back. With pressure and the help of Pravda and so called media Bush signed the legislation. So he wouln't be called mean to poor people. You also say your hero has been transparent and was vetted in 2008. Then why did he hide his Birth certificate so long and why doesn't he release his college transcripts? What's he hiding? This Guy Brags/Lies about everything that he's done. Don't you think he would love to see what great student he was. or is it because he signed up as a foreigner? And where do you left wing idiots get your facts. Air America,MSLSD, Huffington Post,Current TV. Funny how no one ever cared about media Bias until Now! And No I didn't agree with everything Bush did.
. Romney was not my first choice but any body is better than the Idiot we have now.
Wrong, it was the Dumbocrats Barney Frank and Chris Dodd who started legislation and told the banks they had to start lending money to people who would never or could never pay it back.
Mitt Romney's Fair Share. Often when commenting about the wealthy paying a higher tax rate, a fair share, the immediate conservative response is to pivot in two directions. One direction is to pounce on the 48% of Americans who (because of the Bush tax cuts, a fact the right ignores) pay no federal income taxes. Also failing, of course, to recognize the problem as these people barely make minimum wage and live at or below the poverty line despite working at sometimes two or three jobs; that they pay state income taxes, payroll taxes and sales taxes. The other direction is to demand an answer to what is a fair share.
Fair share of federal income taxes is the rate determined by those we send to Washington DC. The trouble is that our tax code is loaded with loopholes, tax harvesting loopholes, off-shore money exemptions, corporate welfare, etc. With the exception of mortgage interest and property tax deductions, all these loopholes favor the wealthiest among us.
The capital gains tax rate is 15%. Most wealthy people, hedge-fund managers, etc., earn their yearly income under the capital gains tax rate. Even Ronald Reagan believed capital gains should be paid at about the same level as income for work. Reagan, along with democrats and republicans in Congress, raised capital gains to 28%. 28% was about the average tax level paid by those living slightly above a middle class life. 28% was a fair share for capital gains income according to Reagan.
Mitt Romney does not pay a fair share of his income in taxes. Mitt ships millions of dollars off-shore to avoid paying taxes on it. Is Mitt paying a fair share by hiding his millions? No, he is not. Mitt uses every loophole available to reduce his tax rate. It might be legal but he is not paying his "fair share" when hiding millions in secret accounts. In 2010, Romney paid around 14% in taxes--not even the 15% capital gains rate. That tells us that 15%, just like the 35% earned income tax rate, is the highest tax rate on the books but neither are the actual rates paid by those who can milk the loopholes.
What did Romney pay in taxes in 2008 and 2009? What did he pay the decade prior? We assume that much of his money is invested in Wall Street. We also know that in 2008, Wall Street blew up causing millions of Americans to lose millions. Romney probably wrote those Wall Street losses off his taxes which means he probably paid zero or close to zero in federal income taxes in both years.
What about the other years? We also know Wall Street was very volatile with down years during the decade prior to 2008. Sure it grew over time but it was highly volatile with big gains and equally big losses. It is no stretch of imagination to recognize that--combined with Wall Street volatility, so-called "harvesting" of losses to dilute the profits, off-shore tax havens, and other tax breaks--it is highly probable that Mitt Romney paid little to no taxes for 10 years.
What is Mitt Romney hiding? Why does he refuse to release 12 years of taxes? Think about it. The answer lies in looking beyond the rhetoric and researching the past.
Have a deal for ya. Romney's tax returns for the last ten years in exchange for Obama's Columbia and Harvard records.
So true Jody. If Willard was clean, he would release his taxes and get a 10 point bump in the polls, and make Harry Reid and the Democrats look really bad. With such logic, Willard is dumb or dirty.
So, to not take the 10 point bump, well dirty!
Who cares about Obama's Columbia & Harvard records, only a desperate cry baby Republican that's who. What does this have anything to do with election of a President whereas what a candidate paid in taxes DOES HAVE . Why is he so secretive ? If he has nothing to hide, then he should release the returns, otherwise-HE'S A DAMN LIAR AND CHEAT...
Come on, tax returns for college transcripts, talk about a fishing expedition. Obama has already told liberals there is nothing there, and that is good enough for them. How many presidents have spent millions to keep their past sealed? But are liberals fishing going after Romney's tax returns? Of course not, hypocrisy is not a word in the liberal language. Lets face it, if Obama had a record to run on, he would. Right now it is desperation from Obama, because he knows Romney is not going to roll over and take it like McCain did and he is digging for any dirt he can find before the fall vetting season begins for Obama.
Well let's see Obama has released 12 years of his taxes.
Perhaps when a white man who served as President of the United States releases his student records, perhaps the first black President in history will release his. The Presidents college records have nothing to do with the Presidents ability to be President. However, Willard's tax lies and deceit on his record is important as to Romney ability to serve as a man who can be trusted.
We have to remember it is rare that this Nation has ever had a successful business man serve as President
Look at the records of business men such Hoover and Bush that were big failures, which crippled the Nation.
How about Romney releasing his tax records because it's what his father would have told him to do?
Jody -- Here's one theory I thought was interesting:

60's,
You can say the same damn thing about obamas' need to keep his birth certificate secret, now couldn't you. However, I'll bet you don't, won't, couldn't, can't or just plain refuse to see that little bit of "secrecy" on obamas' part.
If it can be done by one side it can be done by the other. In other words, just what was/is obama hiding?
Nope, just RELEASE YOUR RETURNS MITT.
You teabaggers have gotten too comfortable governing by blackmail...just be a stand up guy Mitt and release your returns without condition like EVERY other presidential candidate.
well when barry obama applied for college...he supposedly registered as a foreign student.
...this is why obama has had them sealed.
i think its a joke to ask for romneys tax returns from 12 years back........and we are never going to see where obama said he was from on his college applications.
what is barry hussein hiding ? ......where he used to say he was born probably...and barry dont want that to get out.
WTC,
You said it... ☺
They are really having a tough time adjusting to the fact that Democrats are ready & willing to fight back!
The importance of the education of our sitting president vs. how much money a candidate is worth. I think I would rather see if our president is competent.
If you do research and stay away from the Dumb Down America Crowd (AKA Fox, Rush), you would see that the President has a GREAT record in which he is running on, and he has served America well as President.
However, on the other hand, you look at the Willard Romney record the only positive thing you see is Romney Care and his so called Olympics records in which documents aren’t being released for the public to view
This truly is amazing - - everyone is focusing on tax returns when the country is going down the toilet. Guess Obama's strategy is working. Take the focus off the real problems and the lemmings will follow you right off the cliff.
correct..
who is obama????
Well the Red Communist still doesn't have a job. Hey Feisty, why are you unemployable? Get a job you commie slug. Stop relying on people like me to pay for your miserable existence. Waves and hugs. Pffffttttt.
Morgs, I don't think you understand the point that was being made.
If I understand the post, the point is the suspicion that Obama, who was born in Hawaii, might have applied as a foreign student, which would entitle him to both different consideration of his application, and to fraudulently receive federal aid intended only for foreign students. That probably would not be helpful to his campaign.
Do I believe that? Maybe. After all, the person who wrote his bio for his books got her information from somewhere- she described the misinformation as a "fact checking" error on her part. From whom did she get the "facts" in the first place?
On the other hand, Obama -the-brilliant might be hiding a poor transcript-too much time partying, not enough studying, would be my guess. Still, it's hard to continue a reputation for other worldly magnificence with a 'C' average, is it not?
In any event, the speculation will continue for as long as he keeps those records sealed. What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.
The good ole white boy club, can’t accept that we have a smarter than them a Black man as President of the United States
This good ole white boy club was, and still is hell bent on getting rid of our President, who was elected by the people of the United States. Their actions continue to harm our nation, and it’s time that these people are exposed for the low-life racist they are.
I love the talking lying point the Republicans use when the topic of the Presidents race comes up and allegations of racism comes up.
There number one response is that the President is not really black, because his mother is white. The hidden message by this stupid statement on their part is “see we aren't racist because the President is not black."
tony smith Do you work?
NO! He is a Welfare King.
Job1 = Racist
Must be getting desperate. Race card comes out.
@Jody Is paying 20% tax on 750,000 a fair rate?
"white boy"
another racist slur from a democrat. god you people are scary
Hi Real Feisty ( Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL) I see that that POS fake Feisty ( Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL.) is up to the old tricks.
Job, you realize the only reason race is even an issue is because people like you keep bringing it up when it's not really there? I won't deny some people are against Obama because of his race, but I've yet to actually meet anyone who feels that way. The people I know are far more concerned about the issues - and that's simply not one of them.
While it may be tradition, Romney is not required to show his tax returns. There's no law that says he has to. While the dems say it's unfair to bring up the records that Obama sealed for comparison, they miss the point. Obama campaigned on a platform of full transparency - and the first thing he did was seal every record he could find about his own history. Those records are not ones that are required to be disclosed, so while it certainly wasn't very "transparent" of him, it wasn't illegal. The same is true for Romney's tax records.
Why did Obama seal his records? It could be any number of reasons that we don't know. As someone mentioned previously, it could be that he applied under foreign status, could be that he is embaressed from low grades as a result of too much partying, heck it could have shown he has another child out there listed as a dependent who he's protecting. It could be anything, and everything I've listed is pure speculation. Why won't Romney show his tax returns? Again, it could be any number of reasons, from shady dealings, stubborness because he legally doesn't have to, or he may just have a strong personal conviction that he doesn't discuss personal finance (my ex was like that). It could be anything, and everything I've listed is pure speculation.
Job1 - I thought they banned that jerk!
or use the term teabaggers? When the liberals are losing an arguement, they always resort to name calling.
Gosh I know. These Neo-Nut Right Wing Drones Conservatives going on with their crazy Rush talk, just crawl out of the wood work from time to time.
Monkey Mo -
You ust live in a very sheltered world. I don't even live in the deep south, yet almost every day I see BUMPER STICKERS that are racist against Obama. The most prevalent is "No Re-Nig in 2012"......disgusting.
Keck & NJNB -
I can see you are very concerned about the possibility President Obama MIGHT have registered as a foreign student. So how can you ignore the fact that Mitt Romney lied about his residence at least twice - once when running for Governor of MA, and once to vote in the special election to replace Ted Kennedy? These are facts, not speculation, and yet you give Romney a "pass".
You are both hypocrites. President Obama has already been exposed to more scrutiny than any president in history - Republicans have questioned his citizenship, religion, patriotism, and politcal affiliation. He has publically discussed his past, and even released short-form and long-form birth certificates!
Apparently that is not enough - you equate Romney releasing his tax returns to Obama releasing COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS! Do you even realize how weak that argument is?
Don'tCIA, great article; thanks for adding it.
Alan, nice attempt to evade the obvious--hiding millions off-shore to avoid paying even 15% or 20%. If you're talking about capital gains, no, it should be higher. On this one point, I actually think Reagan got it right--28%. Should there be exemptions to the rate? Only for the sale of a home valued higher than the one purchased but that should be limited to only persons who only own one home in the first place; there could be other exemptions such as the sale of one vacation cabin or home. The 28% (or 15 or 20) is only the rate and rarely the percentage actually paid because of the "harvesting" of losses to offset gains, the IRAs, the tax havens, the loopholes, etc. Nice try, Alan, but the point is that Mitt Romney, and those like him, are not paying a "fair share" when millions of dollars are being hidden in secret accounts.
TNSEVOL -
Don't expect your straight facts to get a response. Especially now that the "race card" has been played.
The righties will only talk in speculative, accusatory language these days. Oh, and skewed polls back by biased news sites.
Jody -- Terrific analysis, so thanks for giving me a spot to add to.
Richard, Candidate Barack Obama released his birth certificate long before he was even the democratic presidential nominee. Only those who need some justification for the personal consciences buy the birther nonsense.
Alan, I will also add that your comment 6.22 to Job1 was beneath you. His reference to white boy's club is a known entity that finally is disappearing from our country; it implied what the term was, discrimination against minorities considered not good enough to be in the club. While I may disagree with you on politics, normally you do not engage in such tactics. Are all conservative complaints about President Obama racially tinged? NO. Are all conservatives engaging in racial politics? NO. But whenever conservatives engage in birtherism, Kenya, college transcripts, etc., they are implying one thing and one thing only. These same conservatives prove that they need something to justify their discomfort with President Obama's landslide victory in 2008. Their dislike of President Obama goes beyond dislike of his politics, it is fear.
DCIA, thank you and you're welcome.
Festerhawg, it was the tea party crowd who called themselves "teabaggers" and that is what FOX called them as well--until somebody bothered to check the urban dictionary. Don't blame liberals for the term, the Tea Party crowd gave themselves the name. And that's the truth.
@ Obamanation #s,
You mean this interview?
What are you upset about that the President did keep records of daily schedules and supposed meetings?
Wow! How desperate (of you).
Maybe you should look at the the fact that Obama, your President, has the nuts to do real interviews with real journalists.
The repubs get the DIVIDER OF A LIFETIME award.....Somehow Rove convinced all the TEABAGGERS that they are the same as Romney and billionaires. Somehow Rove divided middle class people, taking TEABAGGERS and convincing them to vote against their own self interests. Divide and conquer and use fear words and phrases, because studies show the TEABAGGERS brains react to fear words in a irrational way. When Fear words and phrases are introduced to Democrat people they use the part of the brain that uses rational thought and problem solving to deal with the same stimuli. Yes actual studies show this to be true.
Romney and repubs...the great dividers for profit!
Obama/Biden and Team America 2012
My point is if the President is calling for 30% or 28% or 25% from the 1% why does he not lead by example? It is not a distraction. You claim Romney paid 10% or 12% or 15%, but in the same breath admit that it was legal. The President did what was legal also and knocked his effective rate down to 20%. Why? he can afford to pay 28% or 30%. Why does he not call for sacrifice and lead the way?
No normally I ignore this type of post. I will say on the record that Birthers are either ignorant or attempting to de-legitimize the President. I think it's a ridiculous claim and idiots like Donald Trump should be ignored, not interviewed or encouraged. I do not think Obama's school records are relevant, except to show that you can make unsubstantiated accusations on a subject with the statement "Prove me Wrong". I don't particularly follow comments on Romney's religion but I've seen more than few anti-mormon comments on that subject.
I did not post my comment as a tactic. I found Job1's post offensive which is why I commented on it, as I did many times during the 2008 primary, when accusations of racism were aimed at the Clinton campaign with amazing regularity.
Geez, tinfoil, you'd think you'd do even basic research before spouting inaccuracies
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/07/13/massachusetts-commissions-finding-romney-left-bain-in-99/
I guess this is the democrat version of birthers.
Hey devie, you may not have voted for him, but he's YOUR President too. And he's going to be re-elected.
Obama 2012
Diane -- I think you misunderstood devie.
Diane, That was in response to a post by a troll that I posted on the wrong thread. I am a dyed in the wool LIBERAL and proud of it. I am also a firm supporter of both the President and the Vice President.
And your damned right he is my President! Along with all the others who served before him, whether I voted for them or not.
Did I vote for him? You bet your ass! And I will again this November!
Obama/Biden 2012!
Alan ----Pres. Obama did try to raise his own taxes , the Republicans in Congress shot the bill down . That is fact , look it up.
You ust live in a very sheltered world. I don't even live in the deep south, yet almost every day I see BUMPER STICKERS that are racist against Obama. The most prevalent is "No Re-Nig in 2012"......disgusting.
TNSEVOL, I can honestly say I have never seen any bumper stickers like that in the past 3+ years - not in MO, not in WI, not on our drives between the 2 or on our trip to Pittsburgh. The only person whom I have ever heard reference Obama's race is my father, and he's a known racist (one reason of many we no longer associate with each other). You are correct, that is absolutely disgusting and unwarranted. Perhaps you happen to live in an area that has a higher percentage of racists, for I am not sheltered in some little rural town without access to the general population!
So he does only lead from behind?
He is advocating that the 1%, which he is a member of, pay at least 30% in income tax. He could stand on this principal and refuse many of the deductions in the current tax code so that he paid 30% of his income in tax for 2011. He did not. he took the deductions and lowered his effective rate to 20% on income of over $750,000. He did exactly what Romney did. Took every deduction to which he was legally entitled and paid the lowest rate possible.
Show us the taxes Willardo, Etc A sketch, weathervane!
Show us your school records especially the part when you were suspended for bullying!
You are a loser Willardo !!!!!
Obama/Biden 2012!!!!!!!!!!
Alan, you ask if paying 20% is a fair tax rate (for President Obama). Well, at least you know what his tax rate was last year as well as 10 years prior to that. We don't know what rate Romney has been paying except for 2010, and it was a ridiculously low 13.9%. Furthermore, comparing the Obama's wealth with Romney's is kind of like comparing apples and oranges (Romney is worth about $250 million versus $5 million for Obama). NONE of this would even be a topic for discussion unless Romney would do what his father and almost all presidential candidates have done--release his recent years' tax returns. The longer he waits, the worse the scrutiny is going to be.
Monkeymo:
From factcheck.org:
factcheck.org/2012/07/obamas-sealed-records/
Q: Are Obama’s early records “sealed”?
A: No. Many records that presidential candidates don’t ordinarily release do remain confidential, but they are not “sealed” by a court. The 16 claims in a widely distributed graphic are mostly false or distorted.
The idea that any Obama record is “sealed” is a falsehood, to start. The word “sealed” when applied to documents ordinarily refers to records that would normally be public, but that a judge has ruled cannot be released without the court’s permission. Common examples of truly “sealed” documents include records of crimes committed as a juvenile or records of adoptions. None of the claims in this message refers to records actually “sealed” in that usual sense.
In some cases, the records this screed claims are “sealed” are actually public, and open for anyone to see. Other supposedly “sealed” records are normally private documents that Obama hasn’t released — and that other presidential candidates haven’t released either.
So as with earlier versions, this is little more than an attempt to raise suspicions by asking for records that aren’t ordinarily made public, without any evidence that those records contain anything derogatory. We’ll take the claims and questions in the order they appear.
Claims #1, 2 and 4, college records. Obama’s college records are not “sealed” by a court order, as this graphic would have you believe. It would be illegal under federal law (the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974) for Occidental, Columbia or Harvard Law School to give any former student’s records to reporters or members of the public without that person’s specific, written permission. Obama hasn’t released them, but neither have other presidential candidates released their college records. George W. Bush’s grades at Yale eventually became public, but only because somebody leaked them to the New Yorker magazine. Bush himself refused to release them, according to a 1999 profile in the Washington Post.
Pawlenty, too boring. Ryan, too smart for Romney. It will be Portman. Not real boring and not too smart.
Road Warrior-252445 Excellent analysis!
road,
As opposed to "biden the brain" who keeps putting his foot in his mouth but obama STILL keeps him as his running mate? That would mean that biden is way smarter then obama.
If he picks Pawlenty all the Dems have to do is show a picture of the I35 bridge in the Mississippi River. Pawlenty was a cheapazz Governor who allowed our roads and bridges to go into disrepair.
Richard,
The point is no president wants to be upstaged by his VP. That's why Obama picked Biden.
I would be surprised if it was Ryan.
As you stated, Romney would definately bask in Ryan's shadow, Ryan is just to much media attention. It's supposed to be all about the Romney Presidency, not the Ryan Vice Presidency. Romney would need sunglasses if he stepped too near the Ryan spotlight.
In addition, Ryan has quite a bit of power and prestige as the House Majority Leader, why would he want to play second fiddle to Romney?
The GOP will keep Ryan in the House where he can control the budget process, and Romney. Legislation is initiated in the Congress, not the Presidency. They only need Romney to rubber stamp the decisions.
That leaves Portman and Pawlenty, both expendable if Romney fails his bid for President,, and neither one of which should eclipse Romney.
Interesting thoughts on the VP. I don't think it will be Paul Ryan either; he would upset the applecart in two ways--he's more personable plus he brings his medicare killing budget with him. Don't forget, the Catholic bishops wrote a letter denouncing the Ryan budget as cruel and inhumane.
While Portman is dull as tarnished silver, he does bring Bush baggage with him in the form of budgets. We all know what a disaster the Bush budgets were with the off-the-book wars, disaster aid, etc.; it's how he kept the real deficit and debt from being front-page headlines (that and having 6 years of total GOP control of Congress and the White House). The VP pick can give a 2-3 pt bump in that VP's home state. Not sure that will happen in Ohio considering all the nonsense the GOP state republicans have tried the past two years.
Pawlenty has his own baggage such as the I35 bridge mentioned above, robbing Peter to pay Paul in the state budget but he has zero ties to Bush, and meets the dull and boring criteria. Considering how dull, boring and wooden Mitt Romney is, finding someone even more milquetoast is no easy task.
Pawlenty pulled out of the race early, he was outpolled by ...BACHMANN! Pawlenty was getting slammed and pulled out of the race when Romney visted Pawlenty at his home in Eagan Mn. Pawlenty was promised VP job last election when McCain pulled the rug out from underneath him. Pawlenty pulled out of Senate race years before because Bush told him to. So once again Timmy pulled out of repub race so he would not me attacked all year long. Romney picked Timmy "Borrow and Spend" Pawlenty months ago!
An interesting, though wild, idea was floated out at lunch today.......
What if Sarah Palin, who is going to be a speaker at the Republican Convention, got up and pulled a "maverick" move and proposed that the GOP nomination rules be set aside and Ryan be drafted as the Republican nominee for POTUS?
Wild, I know, but exactly who in the Republican party has come out for Romney for President, and actually not had to choke the words out? McCain, Palin, Santorum, Perry, Bachman, Gingrich, Christie, McConnel, Ryan, Boehner, Bush, Dole?
They all seem to be keeping distance.
Is it in the cards for Sarah to be a "maverick" at the convention?
Wild idea, I know, but the Republican establishment doesn't seem all that in love with Romney as their candidate. Maybe Sarah can bring those not in the establishment around to the idea of Ryan as the candidate?
It doesn't matter who he chooses for his V.P., HE IS GOING TO LOSE !!!! He could even choose Bill Gates or Tim Tebow, he will still lose. He has nothing to offer the middle class except to steal everything they have to get to his rich friends.....
I don't know, Tim Tebow might get the fundies all worked up, plus he is really good at Overperfoming for his talent.
Obamaloney. What a parroting slug you are. Get a job veteran.
tony smith Do you have a job? Or does someone pay you to post? If you do. Do they pay you by the word or sentence?
Of course I am employed smitty. Who the hell do you think pays for your freebies? A democrat-communist? hehehehehehehehehehehe. You are quite the ignorant slug!!!!!
nice ad hominem here... too bad there is no substance to anything you say.
So, Tony Smith, you accuse other liberal FR posters of being lazy, no good, unemployed bums yet you admit--in your own words--that one can be employed and post on FR! Oops, that wasn't what you were aiming for, was it?
President Obama used Romney Hood to paint the picture of Mitt as a 1% pulling a reverse Robin Hood and the best Mitt can come up with is Obamaloney which just doesn't flow off the tongue easily.
60'sVeteran... Show respect, change your icon to a liberal/progressive. John Wayne hated liberals, are you that stupid that you would try to make John Wayne up to be a liberal/progressive nut case.
Shoulda put Romney in a hoodie. Romney Hoodie!
I can care less about this Clown Romney, he's a Draft Dodging Coward Chicken-hawk that has nothing Worthy of President !!!
Brockton Barlow, "ACORN is back..." What's your point? Someone has to step in to make sure the radical Republican faction doesn't disenfranchise legitimate voters. And who's going to pay for the individual citizens expenses incurred while chasing the right "papers" to vote?
Do you even know what a Marxist is? Free clue... It doesn't involve Groucho, Harpo, Chico or Zeppo.
I do have a candidate for Romney to investigate... John Lovitt's SNL character "Yeah, that's the ticket!"
But yet right here in Charlotte we have libs tripping all over themselves to get passes to the DNC. Including background checks, identity screening to the point of a birth certificate and on and on. And you people have a problem with someone having to show ID to vote? A bit hypocritical don't ya think?
have you ever heard of a terrorist attack (foreign or domestic) on a voting booth? no? me neither.
can you see that a convention with the current President or potential president might make an appealling target and therefore need additional security measures than a voting station? me too.
fallacy of false analogy is what you are using btw...
Talk to the Hand-
If providing an ID is no problem, why are Republicans against requiring one to buy a gun?
Well, Talk To, perhaps you can explain how in all those states where the GOP passed Voter ID laws, they did not require implementing them for the GOP primaries? If voter fraud is as prevalent (it is not because the GOP can't provide evidence of it) as the GOP claims, weren't they concerned that democrats, independents or others would illegally vote to harm their nominating process?
Yes, I do have a problem with requiring an ID to vote. It's reminiscent of the old literacy tests and poll taxes. While I do agree that IDs might be reasonable, the fact is that no GOP state has made it easier for people to get voter IDs. In Texas (which passed a Voter ID bill earlier this year), most of those who will be affected will be Hispanics, and one third of all Texas counties DO NOT have a facility to get a Voter ID. I don't see them trying to solve that, do you??? And why now; why before the election???? Why not after so you don't look like you're trying to block the vote??? I think these Republican states are trying to unseat the Democrats in Washington with these laws; explain to me why we need these laws when voter fraud is virtually non-existent????
In various parts all over the world, universal healthcare and free higher education is something taken for granted. Shall we follow them because it seems better????
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
lord fasist choices for the vp, they will end medicare, medicaid, ssi and loans for college kids everyone who paid into them for years will be screwed and they won't even pay down the debt, instead they will give romney themselves and every other millionaire/billionaire a huge tax cut
Please pick Ryan... a lowly member of the House is qualified to be President? Geesh, they attacked Obama for being a Junior Senator. But I would pass on the Eddie Munster jokes as the man is actually a bit handsome. It just doesn't fly.
Probably just as qualified as a lowly member of the senate was in 2008.
So, Rick Kyle, does that mean those lowly members of the Senate LBJ, JFK, John McCain, Bob Dole, Bobby Kennedy, Gerald Ford, Barry Goldwater were not qualified to be president either? The traps conservatives step in, they set themselves.
Ones qualifications to be President are not limited to previous positions either in government or out of government. It is intelligence, ability to listen to other views, choosing people knowledgeable in areas where he/she is not, people skills, thinking outside the box and willingness to take a risk that is unpopular but for the total good or could end one's presidency if the decision is wrong (saving the auto industry, Osama bin Laden).
George W. Bush was a Governor, the GOP much ballyhooed criteria and look at the mess he left. Romney isn't even running on his experience as Governor--why is that? If being Governor or running Bain Capital or saving the Olympics (with taxpayer dollars) is the be-all and end-all criteria, why is it Romney appears so completely inept, unknowledgeable and incapable. How can anyone go to Great Britain and manage to insult the entire British nation within 24 hours.
The qualities for President extend far beyond experience. Abraham Lincoln was a self-taught man without formal schooling yet he rose to greatness, not on his experience, but on his wisdom. Eisenhower had it, so did John Kennedy. Like all presidents before him, President Obama is not perfect but he was and is as qualified to be president as those who came before him. Considering the mess Bush & the GOP left behind as well as the GOP obstruction since Jan 2009, he has done a remarkable job turning the country around. Think where we would be if the GOP put Country First even one third of the time.
"the non-partisan Tax Policy Center"
The improper use of the term 'nonpartisan' shows First Read is partisan.
That tax study was eviscerated in a Wall Street Journal editorial this morning, but dont expect First Read to pay attention.
Also, First Read plays defense on welfare reform for Obama.....at least three times in the past two days. Over and over....
Yet the ad accusing Romney of causing cancer, gets only a passing reference...
The only problem Bobby McDee is Romney's camp cited them as being OBJECTIVE:
Without hypocrisy Republicans have NOTHING.
Oh, c'mon...you don't really expect Team Romney to remember what position they took back in November of last year, do you?
It's why they can't remember that the HHS waiver that was mentioned in the July 12 memo is EXACTLY what Mr. Romney asked for when he was Governor of Massachusetts.
Team Romney can't remember what position they took 1 hour ago.
Job1 - he wasn't really taking a position - just shifting feet. Oh wait - that IS a position for Romney! My bad!
Obama/Biden 2012
Much like the right wing nitwits who comment here @ FR! lol
The left love throw stones and hide their hand. Reid come-up with a big fat lie abot Romney but nothing to backup his accusation. In what kind of court you accuse somebody without any prove , only in the left wing court..
Oskar: And republican congressmen have stated that Obama is a foreigner, muslin, and of course, your good pal, Michelle Bachman asking for investigations of the state department. Seems to me, republicans are the champs of accusing someone without proof, has been happening over the past 2 years. Why the fake outrage over republican common place practice. Heat getting too hot, get out of the kitchen.
Bob in Virginia
You should know that two members of the tax policy center board served as campaign managers for the obama 2008 campaign.
Tax policy makes a lot of assumptions and we all know that assumptions makes an ass out of?
Romney is not in office and Nov 6 has not arrived so there is no tax policy in place By Romney. so what Obama and Tax policy put out is nothing but hot air.
John: Curious as to why you don't mention that members of Bush's economic team are on the board too. The tax policy center board has both democratic and republican board members. Amazed that republicans, especially Romney's team expressed objective, bi-partisanship and praise for the exact same tax policy board during the republican debates. Again, another example of republicans for something, before they were against something. If Romney would be more specific on his policies, maybe we wouldn't have to assume.
He's right. Fact checking organizations have debunked Romney's accusation, as they have many, many others. The GOP has, and successfully to their credit, invented a White Hous occupant that currently does not exist. They've created this Muslim, socialist, Kenyan-born tyrant completely focused on destroying our constitution and taking away our guns, and about half the country has believed some, if not all of that garbage. It's sad really.
Shaywood
If you are using factcheck.org as a source, you are being dubbed.
Factcheck.org is an arm of the Annenburg Foundation of which bill Ayers founded after he left as leader of the Weather Underground Terrorist.
Obama served as a Board member of the Annenburg Foundation.
Its time for to realize that any information from Bill Ayers or George Soros is going to be distorted and a lie to Include Bill Ayers,s PRIORITIES USA.
Priorities USA is an anarchy Communist organization which happens to be one of Obama,s super pac.
First of all, Communism and anarchy are two different things, and so technically they are incompatible. If you want to make an argument, use words that you understand. Secondly, if Priorities USA is Communist, then Restore Our Future is a Nazi political organization. Or, they are merely left-wing and right-wing organizations. Take your pick...
Romney And The China Connection
A work of fiction, Or is it?
Romneys recent stance on policies dealing with China has me wondering if this is just a smoke screen considering that he made much of his fortune by farming out jobs to China.
(The Washington Post, dated June 22, states that Romney and his private equity firm Bain Capital were pioneers in shipping American jobs overseas to countries like China and India. The facts show that from 1984 to 1999 when Romney was at the helm at Bain, thousands of American jobs were outsourced to cheap foreign labor.)
You have to stop and think about what a communist country would do to buy a potential US president. First you would need to find a potential candidate like say a politician that is running for president that is heavily invested in your country like say China.
(Romney and his trustee claimed that he divested completely from Chinese-based companies. But today we learned that he continues to have a partnership interest worth hundreds of thousands of dollars in a Bain Capital fund that owns a Chinese video surveillance company.)This same company is using this surveillance against its own people to violate their human rights.
Then you would have to invest large sums of money through superpac committees that are made up of investors such as large corporations that are also heavily invested in China.
(The anonymous donor behind the headline-making $1 million contribution to a pro-Mitt Romney super PAC is a former Bain Capital official with long ties to the candidate. The check-writer is Ed Conard, who was a top official at Bain, the private-equity firm Romney helped create. The contribution was first reported by POLITICO's Jonathan Martin and Ken Vogel on Sunday. NBC's Michael Isikoff reported earlier this week that Spann was formed in March and dissolved less than four months later, raising questions about the purpose of the company.)
Then you would have to have your presidential candidate distance himself from your agenda as a whole by making statements that we have to crack down on how we deal with China although he does not elaborate on just what those measures are or how he would obtain those goals.
(Romney says he would label China a "currency manipulator" on his first day in office — though it's not clear he could make that official declaration on his first day, since it would need to come from the Treasury Department. And even then, the label would not necessarily carry dramatic consequences.)
Then you would have to make the current administration look ineffective by say establishing a military base in disputed waters.
(China says it has formed a municipal council for a newly established city in a disputed part of the South China Sea, and has authorized the deployment of a military base in the area.)
The final step would be to make your candidate once he is elected to appear effective by going through the motions of negotiating turning the base into a civilian port rather than a military outpost in return for concessions on trade. The end result is one bought and paid for President.

Everthing you posted is so inaccurate and have been vetted as so and when are you going to Realize that NBC,MSNBC, and washington Post are all Obama,s pals.

Tim Pawlenty ? A man thats thinks its funny to pull another mans pants down in public in front of a crowd during a baseball game ? Wise choice if your a complete idiot.
I can't wait for Friday to see the movie 2016. It just might add some new light to Obama.
I have seen it space. Excellent movie. Better hurry. The word is HUSSEIN is trying to get in pulled. Exposes the fraud for what he is.
space & Tony - it's a MOVIE by a right winger. Oh you'll believe EVERY lie it posts! It is meant for the low information voter - who is easily frightened by lies and deceit - you'll just eat it up!
Obama/Biden 2012
The best movie before the election will be the movie of Navy Seals who got bin laden.
no, space cowboy, your interest in such a movie just sheds light on you.
tony...well, i've seen it sa well. great production values but a total trashbin of fiction and lies to be spoon fed to the part of the population that is always in fear and paranoia no matter what.it just reinforces the tinfoil hat views and will sway absolutely no new voters. i guess it's a good play for you.
The only question they need to ask themselves is who is the Religious Right / Evangelicals going to accept. If they thought that Pawlenty had the chance at the White House they would have backed him during his short run, but even they were not sold on him. Not everybody is sold on Ryan either, the GOP only backed his budget plan to keep the Tea Party happy. Not that I care!
ya know, I had an email yesterday. I guy sent me a youtube video labeled...I Love Amurca. Go watch it, tell me what ya think. I will be waiting.
face it, not only did romney most likely pay no federal incom tax for ten years, the records will show he got much more back than he paid in, he and his family are one of the biggest corporate welfare kings known to man and worst yet you will find out he got these refunds stealing from our working poor, our middle class , our college kids and worst of all our poor down and out seniors.Thats why he won't release the taxes he knows he now has some chance to win, if he releases them he has no chance. Why would anyone vote for him?? Answer, their a close minded hate filled gop idiot, who believes fox news fables and lies instead of real news and science.
let me guess.. real news MSNBC??
There's a reason Willard doesn't release his tax returns, and it's not because he doesn't want to brag about how rich — oops, I mean successful — he is.
I keep reading this defense of Romney that he is such a good man because he contributes MORE to Charity than anyone else.
Okay, so…
I went to the web site where you (and everyone else) can see Mitt Romney's two tax returns, as well as President Obama's 12 tax returns.
I copied the information from Romney's and Obama's Form 1040, for their AGI (Adjusted Gross Income or Taxable Income), and also the Schedule A, Line 19, for the amount of their Gifts To Charity.
After doing a little calculating, this is what I discovered.
In terms of ACTUAL DOLLARS given to Charity
Obviously Mitt Romney does give more actual dollars to Charity than President Obama. That's only logical, because Romney is wealthier and has a lot more dollars than Obama does.
However, in terms of PERCENTAGE OF TAXABLE INCOME...
It is extremely clear, without any doubt, that
If you don't trust my numbers, go to this site and check it out for yourself! Like President Obama, I have nothing to hide. (Too bad Mitt can't say that!)
Tax History Project, Presidential Tax Returns
http://www.taxhistory.org/www/website.nsf/Web/PresidentialTaxReturns/
At this site YOU can actually see President Obama's 12 years of Tax Returns and Mitt Romney's two years of partial tax returns. You can also see Tax Returns from VP Biden, as well as some Republicans who ran against Romney in the Primaries, and other presidents going back to FDR.
(even giving Romney full credit for 2 partial Tax Returns) stands at ...
President Obama has released 12 years of Tax Returns, whereas candidate Mitt Romney has released only two years (of what have been reported to be incomplete/partial) Tax Returns. Facts are Facts!
Any one of those three picks would be good for the 1% er party. I am sure he would love to have Karl Rove some where in the back round pulling Tea Party type strings?
and obamas brain, david axlerod, has his hand up baraks backside and is working him like a puppet.
I knew it would not take long for a answer from one of the hardcore 1%ers LOL Tell the elderly how we can no longer afford to help them pay there own way. Those entitlement programs are so bad for the country are they not? I am grateful in knowing I pay into Rail Road Retirement. The government has not gotten there slimey hands on that. So it's still solvent....
As a working class (downscale) white, I would find little or no economic benefit for me in a Willard Romney presidency.
Many of us recently received a tangible benefit from the Affordable Care Act: our refund checks representing excessive premiums collected by the health insurance companies. Also, effective August 1, our preventive care, including contraceptives, no longer requires co-payments or deductibles.
So is Willard planning on taking these away from me?
why would the color of your skin matter ?
Skin color matters — to both campaigns — to the extent that they conduct polls and tailor advertising and outreach programs according to demographic groups. Also, the article addressed the issue of "downscale whites," an important constituency who may well decide this election.
Understand?
you are telling poor white folks that it is in their best interest if they re-elect baraak obama, yes ?
As a "poor white person" we just lost our insurance. Tell me how that figures in then Hand, and how our family just benefitted from the new rules? The refund checks? As with many people, the were kept by the company to "offset" healthcare insurance costs for next year (whether a person continues to work there or not) - and that's completely legal with the new laws. So no, I personally haven't seen any economic improvement in that regard.
Monkey Mo -
Why do you think things would be better under Mitt Romney?
Seriously, which of his policies or porposals would benefit the lower/middle class - who are the true growth engine of the economy?
TN, please show me ANYWHERE that I stated I support Romney or thought things would have a snowball's chance in Hel of being any better? Perhaps you should be clear on a persons stance before throwing out accusatory questions - I've made no secret that I hold both candidates in pretty equal disdain and think we as a country are hosed no matter who is elected.
MonkeyMo,
I will tell you how the ACA will help you.
You say your family lost your insurance, well now when looking for a plan for your family you will not be denied for pre-existing conditions (Before the law insurance companies would cite all kinds of pre-existing conditions to deny access to a policy--some of these were as simple as acne or pregnancy)
If your state has the insurance exchanges set up already you will be able to purchase a policy for your family that will be much cheaper than just getting a policy on your own because of the exchanges you will be part of a group which lowers the premiums.
TN-let me as a business owner answer your question. First of all being a business owner is a good thing not bad, I am proud of our accomplishments and our ability to make money. It also allowed me to employ others. We also provided insurance for our employees. Like many other non 1% but a business owner, we will longer because we cannot afford to carry insurance for our employees, you can all spout about Obama Care but it started costing small business two years ago with one premium increase after another. The Prez's brilliant banking overhaul cost business as our fees have increased in the past 3 years. Our state taxes for employee's have all increased because this administration limited State money. Local fees went up because State money is not disbursed to local government. So if you are not well off and you go to work 8 hours each day or not at all maybe you might consider changing your votes, because small business will be the past in this country. Jealousy of others makes for a bad voting companion and whether Governor Romney would be a good President or not, he has nothing to be ashamed off mostly his wealth. You cannot print money to grow the economy, it is basic Econ 101, and frankly it scares me that you proposed such a question.
No, but technically it is in their best interests. I mean, why would a party (GOP) that is dedicated to cutting taxes for the wealthy and deregulating the economy care about the working class except for their votes??? We all know what happened after we tried the Republican formula for prosperity: people got fired, economy tanked, unemployment soared, and the wealthy got off relatively scot-free. I'll agree that the Democrats are not that much better, but at least they seem to give a damn about everybody else.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
you guys and your 1% ers. Wow it is hard to believe you worry about such a small percent. Kind of funny!
My thoughts exactly. Hell that makes the 1% a minority. Libs picking on a minority? Say it ain't so. LOL
LOL
plstink90 Wow its hard to believe you worry about such a small percent.
What's kind of funny. Is there wealth gets them all the power. They think the rest of us are here to serve them.
talk to the the hand Libs picking on a minority?
For a "minority" they have the republican/tea bagger party in their back pockets, What other "minority" can say that?
Blacks, Hispanics, welfare recipients, Food Stamp recipients, Illegal immigrants, LGBT community, all have the Democrats in their back pockets. Both individually and collectively.
Talk to the Hand: You are whats wrong with politics. It's people that think like you that have ruined our government. (Most of the new food-stamp recipients look just like you?) Maybe one day we can give you folks Manhattan Island. So you can live surround by like minded folks that think like yourself? (Escape from New York) the sequel staring (Talk to the Hand, Lora tab Limbaugh, and Bush Jr with special guest appearance from Karl Rove...:) LOL really hard...
Look Juan, I didn't bring it up, Smitty did. I responded. Unlike you libs who run to another part of the thread when you don't have an answer. And did I say anything about how anyone looks or classify who was in the wlefare/food stamp legion? No. All I was pointing out is that the Dems, should they continue with the touchy feely pandering form of "caring" that they display, will always have their groups too.
talk to the hand i didn't bring it up, Smitty did.
Typical republican/tea bagger/rightwinger always casting the blame to someone else. Where do you see race in my post? rightwing spin at its best.
Who said anything about race? Not you, not me, not anyone. You brought up that the "For a "minority" they have the republican/tea bagger party in their back pockets, What other "minority" can say that? I answered with an opposing view of who the other minorities have in their back pocket. I blamed you for nothing except that you brought up the whole back pocket thing.
Pick Ryan...I'd love to here him explaining to seniors in Florida why the total spending on their welfare needs to be curtailed since no one thinks we can balance the budget without substantial cuts to SS and medicare..c'mon congressman ryan tell us all about your plan...
Funny how you progressive wing-nuts think Obama is a shoe in for re-election.. I wouldn't point to the last election as any sort of positive. Obama barely beat a corpse and a bimbo. The GOP sees the progressive nightmare that is Obama prime for defeat, as do I. Obama and his "you didn't build that, somebody else made that happen" class-warfare anti-business rhetoric cut straight to the heart of America. Obama's progressive agenda designed to control American lives from cradle to grave is scaring the hell out of America. Obama's desire to steal from those who earn to give to those who don't is falling on deaf ears. True Democrats like myself are falling away in droves in protest of this progressive nightmare that's Taliban'd this side of the aisle. We simply can't continue spending money we don't have.. Regardless of who Romney picks Obama will lose in November not because of Romney but because of the failed progressive policies Obama is promoting...
You're not a real Democrat. Never were.
Invisiable Hand
No he just a democrat with a brain and commom sense
IF A A$$ like you is a dem I'm switching, thank God your just another gop liar like the one on top of the ticket
Hunter57
I didn't know delusional ranting was the same thing as common sense.
ummm Troll. don't feed it.
Yes, I am a Democrat.. The problem is with you progressives. Progressives are simply weak minded Democrats that lack the will power to overcome the entitlement intoxication Obama and his progressive nightmare so skillfully inject. I’ve walked away from this progressive nightmare and many more like me continue to do so. You go ahead and continue to follow Obama and his rush to complete gov’t control. Let’s see what happens this November. My guess is you progressives have no clue how many of me there truly is..
Your comments and apparent need to misrepresent the truth for partisan reasons clearly exemplifies how morally-challenged you sound. Your entire post clearly demonstrates you believe in a source of information that is open to interpretation with a tendency in the direction of bias; accordingly you can convince yourself of anything…get your facts straight then distort then to meet your opinionated agenda.
F.Y.I., the distinguished senator from Arizona and his infamous choice of a running mate, lost to Obama/Biden by nearly 10 million votes in 2008.
Wishful thinking is synonymous with denial, all the wishing in the world won’t change anything I suggest you sit back and wait until the election results are in.
Repubs created Citizens United law that allows foreigner to spend money on the republican candidate they want elected. Since they don't have to say who is contributing and how much, foreign countries are voting as "Corporations are people too my friend" You like having foreigners voting? Repubs blocked law that would have made the people donating to these super pacs be listed and with how much they donated. So repubs want foreign money to vote, and they block attempts at AMERICANS from knowing who bought them.
Vote Obama/Biden and Team America 2012
I will believe that Corporations are people on the day that Texas executes one.
Ima Democrat - So what values of the Democratic Party DO you endorse exactly? Unions? Reproductive freedom for women? Equal civil rights and marriage equality for all citizens?
Actually, Obama won by several percentage points and 335 electoral votes. Doesn't seem close to me.... And I don't think he's a shoe-in, although he's probably going to be re-elected.
First of all, Obama was referring to the nation's roads and bridges. Secondly, to all you class warfare-criers out there, let me show you a statistic: the top 1% of Americans control roughly 25% of the nation's income and got 93% of all the growth in income in 2011. The top 20% control roughly 50% of all income earned in the U.S; how the hell is that fair??? Face it; there is class warfare in the United States, and the rich are winning.
So wait: universal healthcare that is administered via private insurers is control over American lives?? Most countries in the industrialized world HAVE universal healthcare, primarily via government programs. Hell, the REPUBLICANS promoted the individual mandate in the early 90s to COUNTER Clinton's healthcare proposal.
There are VERY FEW "true Democrats" in Washington these days, and I'm not talking about the Blue Dogs. I'm talking about the New Deal guys; the people who fought for the welfare state and enabled our country to be the best in the world. And technically, the ONLY reason why we have trillion dollar deficits is because of the recession AND the Bush fiscal policies. If Bush had been more fiscally responsible, the debt would be far lower than it is now. In fact, had Reagan tried to balance the budget instead of cutting taxes and increasing spending, debt would be only 30% of GDP today, instead of around 100%.
Actually, progressive policies have NOT failed; conservative policies, however, have. The Great Recession and it's side-effects showed us that tax cuts for the wealthy and deregulation not only fails to grow the economy, but that it leads to higher income inequality, recessions, stagnant wages, and a shrinking middle class.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
I'm glad I don't live in Kansas. Soon you will not be able to walk down the street there without displaying a cross and singing Christian hymns. All non-Christians,gays,poor folks and non-whites will be thrown in jail and Kansas will get their wish. They will "take back" their state. Back to the days of a strong KKK presence. Things were so good then. Not!
"we are going to take back our country" baraak h obama 2008
....it would be nice to take america back to the days before the disastrous obama regime came in to power.
Yea and just remember most of those jackass members were demacrats
SERIOUSLY? You have totally blocked out the disaster the Bush Brigade got us into? Denial is a useful tool if you're a Republicant but when reality appears the GOP flees like a vampire at sunrise.
REPUBLICONS CREATE VOTER SUPPRESSION LAWS TO RIG ELECTIONS IN THEIR FAVOR!
Republicons creating voter suppression laws in states all over the country. 16 states now have laws in place that will prevent millions of voters from voting. The laws are aimed at the elderly, the young and the poor. Why? Studies show the majority of these people vote for their interests, the democratic party.
In Pennsylvania the repubs celebrated when they passed their voter suppression laws and bragged that now that they put voter suppression law in place so Romney can win the election. Over 758,000 voters lose their right to vote in Pennsylvania, and there are also republicans in that group having their right to vote taken away!!
These laws and plans to take away your right to vote crafted by Rove and Alec( group of corporations that meet and decide twice a year what laws repubs can pass for them) That's right...repubs taking away your right to vote. Maine putting in voter suppression laws when they only had two cases of fraud in 38 YEARS!!!! Millions of dollars spent creating and implementing laws for one reason. To rig the elections by removing voters! Why rig the elections?....It is all about the $$$$$$ for the top 1%. They want it all. They want to privatize Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and the Post Office. They want all that money regardless of how those programs help America better than having it in their bank accounts.
Obama/Biden and Team America...save you right to vote!
MORE PROOF REPUBS TRYING TO TAKE THE ECONOMY DOWN!
WHERE ARE THE JOBS REPUBS PROMISED? OH YEAH...STILL OVERSEAS WHERE THEY WANT THEM. THAT WAY THEY PUT PROFITS IN OFFSHORE ACCOUNTS AVOIDING TAXES!
How did repubs just keep more jobs out of America? 7-19-12 Repubs blocked the bill to remove tax breaks for the companies taking jobs offshore and in the same bill they blocked giving tax breaks to companies that would bring them back.
Republicans are anti America. Repubs hate American workers, they support Romney taking jobs overseas and then hiding those profits in offshore accounts to avoid paying taxes. Repubs want the economy to get worse because 14 republicon politicians met the night President Obama took office and pledged to vote against every bill that would make Obama look successful. Newt Gingrich was among them and said it was the seed that was sown for the 2012 election. Pledging to take America down for republicon elections 4 years away! Record filibustering is all the proof they have done as they said!!!
Obama/Biden and team America 2012
Were you born Stupid or did you work hard at being Stupid?
Kansas is hopeless. We should put a border fence around the state of Kansas, and Missouri for that matter
Rod_Father - Hey don't write us off in Missouri just yet! Those of us in the I-70 corridor (St.Louis, Columbia-Jeff City, and Kansas City) are still fighting the good fight to keep this a swing state!
Keck - Every time I see your avatar I think about Peter Sellers spinning in his grave knowing that a doofus like you is using his likeness to spew stupidity and hatred. Sellers was a genius - you are goofy.
My apologies falconear. Keep up the good work!
I know there are alot of good, fine, decent people in Missouri, I'm just afraid that you are out numbered by the Intelligent Design Believers!
@kimH
I keep pointing out to poor kecky that he's also using for his avatar an image from a movie that laughs it's ass off at Neo-con nitwits like himself but he just doesn't get it. It's so far over his head that it gives him a nosebleed, I think.
BUT I'm pretty sure keck wouldn't deny Mittens his essence...
kennyw - Keck obviously doesn't get what the movie was about. It was so anti-war, anti neo-con, anti everything the right-wing Republicans stand for today. That is why it just irritates the crap out of me that Sellers picture is associated with the poo that Keck spews. What a dummy.
