2012: Romney up in CO, but trailing in VA and WI

This isn’t what President Obama wanted to see heading into Colorado today. Romney leads 50-45%, in a new Quinnipiac/New York Times/CBS poll.

Obama is up, however, in Virginia, 49-45%, and Wisconsin, 51-45%.

According to an AARP poll of voters over 50, Obama and Romney are tied 45-45% with the group. But Obama gets just a 42%-49% approval rating among them. What’s more, this group really dislikes Congress. The deliberative body gets just an 8% approval rating, with 81% disapproving. The group narrowly prefers Democrats to control Congress (43-39%). They “are as likely to say that their personal economic circumstances were negatively affected by political gridlock in Washington (78%) as by the economic downturn (77%).” They also “want the candidates to better explain their plans for Social Security and Medicare, which will help them determine their votes.”

And for anyone who thinks the Paul Ryan budget wouldn’t become an issue, these voters are strongly in favor of Social Security and Medicare: 91% believe “Social Security is critical to the economic security of seniors” and “the next president and Congress need to strengthen Social Security so that it is able to provide retirement security for future generations.” (That includes about three-quarters of Romney voters.) On Medicare: 95% say “Medicare is critical to maintaining the health of seniors” and 88% say “The next president and Congress need to strengthen Medicare so that it is able to provide health coverage in retirement for future generations.”

The poll was conducted by Hart Research and GS Strategy Group. (Disclosure: Hart Research is the Democratic half of the NBC-WSJ poll.)

Looks like some of the retired folks sit around all day and listen to liar Limbaugh and lying Fox.

BTW Detroit-Storm: I'd say they haven't read or bothered to find out what's in the Ryan budget or the numbers would be a lot different. Have you read the Ryan budget Detroit? I know the answer I'm going to get even though he hasn't seen even one page of the Ryan budget. He's going to say he's read the whole thing.

Yes, I have read the Ryan Budget. I didn't read the whole thing because of the vagueness of where the money is going to come from. I also love the assumption of 3.2% employment. I'm a little old for fairy tales.

They only listen the lies from MSNBC , Obamacare rake 500 millions from Medicare, I don't thing they know about this. They care about their near future , however 5 trillions more in debt will affect their SS checks too. Ryan wants a long term remedy, because he care about our children's . If they know the truth Obama is toast.

you don't know a thing either:

The Medicare prescription-drug benefit will be improved substantially. This year, seniors who reach a certain threshold of out of pocket drug expenses known as the 'donut hole' will get $250 to help pay for their medications.

Beginning this year, the law will make all Medicare preventive services, such as screenings for colon, prostate and breast cancer, free to beneficiaries.

You might have to pay more only if your supplemental coverage is through Medicare Advantage.

More people will be eligible for Medicaide.

however 5 trillions more in debt will affect their SS checks too

now your turn: what you got to support your silly propaganda?

Ah, the lies continue. Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney and Republicans plan to kill off Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. They state they plan to "reform it for future generations." The only future generations they care about are the children of their wealthy donors.

Looks like if you plan to get sick, ya better have a good burial policy; either way it goes. I'm sure the skirt fluffers at Fox will have a solution, just loony tune in!

Can anyone tell the truth anymore? Could we American's face it if they did?

Sandra Fluke will address voters in Colorado along with the president. Colorado voted against Teabagger Ken Buck because of he wanted to criminalize abortion even in cases of rape or incest. We'll see how long Romney leads with his War on Women...

Of course ,and the children of their wealthy donors need Medicare , medicaid and SS, it is so stupid. Is the poor people that depend on those programs. Obama and the neo-Democrats are kicking the can down the road, , because they only care about the votes, instead to take the bull by the horns even if they have to take unpopular measures to save SS and Medicare.

These are just GOP talking points you're spouting! It would be a much better conversation if you actually put your thoughts into an intelligible conversation. I've read the Romney/Ryan budget and it doesn't reward the middle class in any way.

A very easy fix to the retirement delima and the unemployment delima will go hand in hand. When I was growing up in the 60's nobody, and I do mean nobody worked past age 62. They retired, went home, raised a garden, helped with the grandkids, and traveled - bought new cars, washing machines, tv's, etc. That let a younger unemployed worker fill the slot, of course no one wants to train anyone on the job anymore and high school and college grads need to realize they are not entitled to be the boss their first day on the job.

Allowing workers to retire earlier rather than later is better for the workers and it is better for the workforce, makes sense to me. I did not stay drunk and stoned til I was 40 like georgie bush, so no thank you, I am not interested in working until I'm 70 years old! Never stayed drunk and stoned, went to work full time even when in college (which I paid for myself - no loans) and have been working since I was 18 years old, at 59 I'm just about done. All I need is a healthcare plan that will let me retire and I'll be happy to go home at 62 and let someone younger have my seat at this table.

There are plenty of health plans available to allow you to retire early. What you meant to say is: "All I need is a FREE healthcare plan that will let me retire".

Personally, I'm ashamed to have him associated with WI. Same with Walker. The only gov't they will cut back on is services to the young, (education and health.) the old, (SS and Medicare) and the majority of the population. (protection services like firemen, police, teachers and hospitals. Their salaries will never go down, and their taxes will never go up. And yes, repubs. I have a job. probably have worked harder and longer than a lot of you have been on the planet. I own guns, I pay taxes, have served in the military, have children who work and grandchildren in school. My I.Q. depending on the particular test is between 136 and 142. I also visit the LOC website occasionally to read the bills up for vote. (that's Library of Congress)..OK..start the name calling and pointless jabs. your opinions of me are worthless.

i was explaining the health care plan and how women benefit and the thought occured to me, why would any woman in their right mind vote for any republican? as far as i understand, every republican would like to see every woman bare foot and pregnant and submisive to their every need.

my question to the women on this page who support the republican party, do you like being treated this way and what do you understand the republican party will do for the women of this country?

as this is a serious question, please give it a serious and truthful answer. thks.

The only response that i've heard to this argument is that it is baseless. They claim that it is a myth that the conservatives are against women's rights (listening to Limbaugh go on about this is amusing).

If the Ryan budget is so bad why have we not seen anything from the other side which we could review in some committee to see if a compromise can be reached with the two ideas. sure, Obama sent a budget but no one considered it to be a serious attempt. rather than vilifying why not discuss?

I have no doubt that Colorado will be close, but this is an outlier - nearly every other poll shows Obama leading by 3-7 points. Nothing else is even close to this.

What I don't understand is why people in their middle-age are not concerned about the Ryan plan? The seniors already have their benefits, but some of us have already paid into SS and Med for 30 or 40 years and the Repubs are ready to pull the rug out from under us.

Maybe the Repubs should make a pledge (ala Grover Norquist) to not claim their benefits in their solidarity to their non-entitlement ideology. Sort of like how they encouraged Warren Buffet to pay extra taxes.

SS is broke. If you are middle age, as I am, you better look elsewhere for retirement funds. There will be nothing there, because there is nothing there right now.

plsthink90- why speak lies? ss is 100 solvent until 2026 then like 90% until 2045 or 2050. Easy fix. Just need some sanity amonst the republican party- we dont have a parlimentary system.

I want to throw something out here for thought. The polls seem to be all over the place and for no apparent reason. I'm not concerned whether some polls are over/under sampling some groups. I am concerned that this is no longer a normal electorate subject to normal sampling. Here is what concerns me: Ted Cruz's large margin in Texas, Tea Party backed Aiken winning the MO GOP Senate primary when the last polling had him in third and when head to heads had him polling the poorest against McCaskill, and off the radar, but the Kansas state legislative primaries yesterday where Koch backed candidates unseated 7 of 8 "moderate" GOP incumbents. One has to ask the question whether their is a movement that is being missed. I worry that the Dems may be too complacent without digging deep into the numbers.
