The claim is dubious. The article isn't stating that because of Romney's party. It's merely a statement of fact, in that the claim makes assertions that are verifiably false. Being objective doesn't mean treating lies as if they're a legitimate side of the story.

Had RomneyHood as governor; witnessed Romney impose fees on the blind so they could get certificates that stated that they were blind so RomneyHood could pay for his precious tax cuts that resulted in nothing except a low job growth and higher fees on everything else.

Many states are "severely' limiting all assistance, including Medicaid. States that decided to participate in the program to receive federal funds should either participate fully or not at all. A lawsuit needs to be brought against these states that have frozen any new enrollments for practicing discrimination. You can't just say the game is locked for those already in the system regardless of need or some other more meaningful criteria.

Both the GOP and the Dems have been going over the top with the negative - and lying - ads, which is a consequence of the Citizens United ruling (a jump from 9% negative ads in 2008 to 70% is no coincidence). Out of context quotes like "I like firing people", "you didn't build that, somebody else made that happen", and lies (or dumb speculation) about death panels and 10-year tax evasion are only a few that come to mind.

However, I think Romney has a worse transparency problem than Obama, due to the fact that not only he refuses to release his tax returns, but also to reveal the details of his plan for the economy. He claims he wants to cut spending by a fraction of the GDP, increase defense spending and to lower taxes for everyone while at the same time paying down the deficit.

He never says how he is going to finance the tax cuts, the increased defense spending or what government programs he is going to shut down or cut. He makes a vague mention of closing tax loopholes and cutting spending, but fact-checking organizations and even the libertarian Cato Institute find it hard to believe he is serious about the deficit, because he refuses to provide details (see: www(dot)politifact(dot)com/truth-o-meter/statements/2012/aug/07/barack-obama/mitt-romney-would-add-trillions-deficit-while-obam ). The little information he has made available suggests his plan would add 2.6 trillion to the deficit by 2021.

Obama's plan may not be perfect, but at least it's out in the open, and is relatively plausible as a compromise solution to the deficit.

Mac - please back that claim up with some kind of proof. The Dems, and especially Obama, want to enable the poor. The Republicans want to encourage them to be productive members of society contributing rather than just sucking off the teet of American government.

Romney actually has faith in the poor, he believes that they can actually work and if there isn't a job out there that they could create one. It is Obama who has no faith in the American people and has essentially given up on them and is now just paying their bills.

Why do you need his taxes? You know what they are going to prove - that he made a lot of money. The dems will attack that because wealth and prosperity are bad things now. As for welfare, if you have recieved welfare for greater than 5 years then something is wrong with you. In five years you can receive any education, relocate to any better job market, or find any job to get off welfare. i wish Romney would say..

Yes Alaskagirl that's exactly how it happens. People on food stamps with expensive cell phones received them as gifts. The gift giver also pays their monthly phone bill too. All my friends who drive Mercedes and Cadillacs often offer to loan me their car to get food. If they have such wealthy friends and/or family why can't they work for them?

So maybe they still have the car they bought back when, or rely only on a smart phone now instead of Internet at home, etc. You can't judge where people have been and how far many have fallen so very quickly. There are people who scam assistance programs, and that is why most states are very strict about requirements like citizenship, etc. in the first place. Folks should just be grateful if they don't need assistance.

Have your Party support raising the minimum wage to a level where people would have to pay taxes and would not be eligible for food stamps or any other supplemental programs. Too simple. From a lot of these posts, a remedial reading course for Republicans would help as well. The only thing I have seen from the Obama campaign that may be over the top is the job outsourcing claim. But everybody is doing that and we keep buying the stuff from overseas while it destroys our middle class.

Chances are your cell phone was paid for by the company that outsourced your job so you already lost that. Colorado is now tied where Obama was up 4 points last week. The obama lead is down to 4 points in both Pennsylvania and Michigan.

The only way Obama is showing a lead in some of the swing states is loading up on democrats by up to 11+ over republicans in many polls. That would include Florida, Ohio for certain. In 2008 A motivated democrat party was only +6 over Republicans. In 2010, that advantage dropped to +3 over Republicans. Polls from all polling companies are showing democrat member enthusiasm lower the 2010 which was lower than the enthusiam in 2008.

The obvious conclusion is that polling companies are padding Obama numbers to prop him up.

Romney took a leave of absence in 1999 to head up and rescue the Salt Lake City Olympics. He returned at the close of the Olympics in 2002 only to hand in his resignation Retroactive to the beginning of his leave of absense. The closing of the Steel mill in 2001 was the decision of the Obama Bundler who took over Romney's work at Bain. The states have requested it!!!! Here in Michigan the state has requested the waiver so they can run a pilot program that takes long time welfare recipients who's benefits are going to expire, and puts them in a work training program. This program is monitored, and they are housed in rooms that are checked at night. Attendance in class is mandatory, and at the end of the program you must seek work or your benefits stop. This wavier here is only to allow them to still get their check why they are in the 30 day program and eliminate the work requirement because they are away from where they live and are in class. For Romney to twist an otherwise good program set to reduce the number of cronic uses of the system in a humane way is ridiculous.

HHS signed a waiver that the requirements of work eligible for Welfare can be revised and states may seek a waiver from the work component to "test alternative and innovative strategies, policies and procedures that are designed to improve employment outcomes for needy families". So far sounds fine and "why would anybody be upset with this?". Because it removes the strict work requirements and now adds an element of ambiguous "work components" definition. In other words the states and HHS can make arbitrary decisions on what work "is". What made the Welfare reform work in the past was that states must implement specific rigorous work standards - and it worked. Now HHS has created the ability to NOT implement specific rigorous work standards. Not MORE rigorous standard but LESS rigorous standards.

In the past some (liberal) state bureaucrats have attempted to define activities such as hula dancing, attending Weight Watchers, and bed rest as "work". The Welfare Reform had blocked these but this new ruling from HHS removes those limitations.

So HHS has removed the requirement of "work" to receive Welfare. This is a slap to the face of all taxpayers that, once again, we will start to see Welfare recipients not be required to work to receive Welfare checks. Don't worry, all polls show that the significant majority do not believe in this change and want the rigid requirements returned and when Romney is elected will make sure that occurs.

I guess the thinking is that maybe only 50% or so will find out it's a lie so they got to the other 50% effectively. But what happens when over time everybody realizes they are being lied to in at least some of these ads? Do they think that Americans will just accept that it's OK to spread these lies? Do they think blatant lies will be accepted as just spin? Sure we all know that political ads spin and sometimes don't tell the whole truth. But this isn't suggestive, selective truths we're talking about. The only fair way to describe many of these Romney ads is blatant lies. Do they really think the voting electorate is that stupid?

Too bad Pjam09 isn't paying close attention or would know that Democrats aren't saying that Mitt Romney broke any laws. What he did may have been unfair but not illegal. He may have paid a far lower percentage in taxes than the average middle class taxpayer which may be perfectly legal, he can take advantage of loop holes most of us don’t have and money hidden in Cayman Islands, Switzerland etc. that most people cannot do all to avoid paying taxes. The free cell phone thing is a myth blown out of proportion. If you think a no-frills Tracfone, w/ 30-60 min per mo, w/ chgs per minute for every minute going over that, is a good deal, then you're partially correct. Not *everyone* gets them. Only ppl who don't have a phone (yes, there are ppl in this day & age who cannot afford such things) & are looking for work. B/c, yknow, a potential employer isn't going to take a leisurely stroll to your home if he wants to hire you; he needs a phone #.

Section 8 has a *wait list* of 3-5 yrs. They have a limited amt of funds to work w/ & when they're gone for the yr, then they're gone. Basically someone has to die, go into a nursing home, or leave the county (it's administered by county via authorized agencies, not the feds) b4 someone else gets bumped up to #1 on the list. Then they have 60 days to find a LL who will accept Sec 8 on an apt that isn't a @!$%#hole & will pass their rigid inspections. If they can't (& it's tough to do), then they go back to the bottom of the list & keep waiting. It's not an *automatic perk* the instant someone becomes poor.

Vehicles? Yeah, it's called *the bus* LOL If they're really lucky they might get bus tokens as a *perk*.

The Rs are trying so hard to support Willard when there were so many against him in the primaries. There were supporters of Bachmann, Gingrich, Perry, etc. who wanted anybody but Romney and now they either have to swallow hard and kinda sorta support him or not say anything.
