Romney launches welfare attack on Obama

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL -- Mitt Romney's campaign opened a new front in its battle to define President Obama as far to the left of even Democrats like Bill Clinton, with the presumptive GOP nominee accusing the president of trying to "reverse" welfare reform.

The GOP contender, whose campaign resurfaced this issue of welfare reform this morning with a new television ad and a conference call, cast the Clinton era welfare reform effort, which tied welfare payments to work, a "great accomplishment," and praised the value of a job as strengthening the American economy and American people.

In the next breath, he called out President Obama for what he claimed was an attempt to gut the work requirement.

"I hope you understand that President Obama in just the last few days has tried to reverse that accomplishment by taking the work requirement out of welfare," Romney told a crowd gathered on a factory floor here. "That is wrong. If I’m president, I’ll put work back in welfare.”

The Romney campaign is charging that a waiver issued by the Department of Health and Human Services would exempt states from the work requirements contained in the law; the memo at issue stipulates that a waiver only be granted if the state offers a substitute that achieves the same work goals.

Romney also defended his own work on welfare reform as Governor of Massachusetts, already a target for Democrats.

"We must include more work in welfare. When I was governor of my state, I fought time and again. My legislature passed a bill removing the work requirements at the level we’d had in the past. I vetoed that and then fought time and again to get more work requirements, to raise the work requirements in my state, not because I don’t think people who need help should be helped," Romney said. "I very much agree that those who are seriously disabled or are unable to work need to have help of the rest of us, but those who can work ought to have the opportunity for a good job, and if they’re getting state assistance, they ought to have the requirement for a good job. We will end a culture dependency and restore a culture of good, hard work.”

In his first public appearance since Sunday's shooting at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin, Romney also set politics aside at the top of his remarks to call for a moment of silence for the victims.

"I'd like to have a moment of silence to honor the people who lost their lives in Wisconsin in that tragic, tragic shooting at the Sikh temple. The tragedy is even more profound because the Sikh religion and the Sikh people are such peaceful, loving individuals," Romney said. "And I think its also more tragic because the shooter was apparently someone who was motivated by hate. Hate based on race. Hate based on religion. For all those reasons, this is something that touches us very deeply."

Oh, and yes, where is the discussion from you racists that encompass America giving our food away and our money away to nations all over the world. Is it okay not to take care of our own but give millions to billions to isreal or egypts military? Is it okay to provide welfare to the world? No. It isn't. What it does do is show all of you that feed off these things that those talking know nothing of the big picture. All they see is the skin color! All they bring to the debate is Fox News rhetoric espoused by nothing more than republican sluts that are more eye candy then intelligent. So, let us really have a discussion. Force your legislators to start discussing. Let us come up with solutions that takes care of our own and say screw the world until we are back to strong and healthy. Until then, I don't see much in the way of ideas other than "out with Obama and in with the other guy who will continue to ruin this country. So, global welfare is okay and taking care of our own isn't? Is that right?

First of all, if all you see is the color of Mr. Obama's skin as his fault, then yes! You are a racist. If you believe that corporatism will create jobs and provide a sound way for all of those who have seen thier jobs depart for China, Brazil, and India to once again FIND employment that provides benefits and a GOOD living, then you are just a plain idiot. This is not 1950 anymore where there are jobs that can provide a sound life to provide for a family anymore. So, again, punch willards name and learn the hard the way! The rings of the middle class are falling off into the abyss of a fleeing corporate system that is off and gone for good. And, you are funny Troll! My post has nothing to do with your retort. Your retort is shallow, uneducated, and completely off topic. It didn't even answer the question. You are good with us giving billions to the all peoples of the world, but gonna begrudge our most needy at home? How dare you even speak to me with your bigotry and useless retorts. When you get some education on the Bible and the world today, and welfare policy, then come with an educated retort! Thank you!

I am getting more and more impressd with Romney,I can't believe that he could go from his Vehicle into a super market and come out with some purchases, One was a case of bottled water. I could not believe that he was so competent. He also was shown going into the dangers of a hardware store and by golly came out with some hardware STUFF. Almost wants me to think twice about voting for him now. What a Commander in Chief he would make.He must have received those skills while draft dodging in FRANCE.

For Rory123 ... Just because I may have a different opinion than you does not make me stupid, for you to insinuate that it does shows me that you are not at all informed, simply ignorant and intolerant. That sums up my opinion of most republican rhetoric...ignorant and intolerant...throw in a good dose of arrogance and the recipe is complete...you have a fascist right wing hypocrite who is narrow between the eyes and nothing between the ears.

Given the gravity of challenges that we face as a nation, arguing over which of these two men is a "liars" is reflective of the sorry state of affairs we're in. Whatever our political stripe, I believe that both of these men have earned our respect for their public service. What we ought to be telling them is that what we are interested is in their vision for this country and how their leadership would get us to where they see us going. We need ideas and not a blame game.

America is becoming the United States of "Can't. We can't because winning the argument has become more important than building a better future for our children. To build a future, a nation must work together toward a common purpose (as opposed to whining and throwing stones at each other). It requires that people open their minds and develop some mutual respect for each other and for differences of opinion.

It's not the left or that right that's killing this country. What's killing it is an all or nothing attitude. Wake up folks. The fact is that these two candidates are not all that much different and those differences hardly make it a moral issue.

Romney camp needs to put out the figures: how much it's going to cost if Obama succeeds. And keep mentioning that Obamacare tax. Welfare abuse and fraud is already rampant but this will just open the floodgates. This pig (Obama) has his own rules and will use anyone to win: Women, Gays, Illegals, Bums...etc. Unbelievable!

                        Life Is Not Fair.

But it is amazing what the libs will do to try and make it fair for themselves. Starting in grade school, not every can win the race and get a blue ribbon, so they do away with the ribbons. Not everyone can get good grades so they do away with grades. Not everyone can understand science or math, so they do away with science and math.

It is not "fair" to single out young Muslims in the airport, so they make little old ladies in wheelchairs get full body searches. Not everyone can have a good job, so they do away with good jobs. Not everyone can have a nice home and family, so they vandalize nice homes and attack family values. Not everyone can have the best health care, so they ruin health care. Not everyone can be wealthy, so they take away the wealth and want everyone to be poor. And not everyone can be smart, so they are happy when they all act stupid.

Cutter another moron on the obama campaign is also a low down dirty liar. So what does this tell you about this bunch of morons? Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are low down dirty liars! These are the idiots that the liberals want to get re-elected to run our country for another 4 years???? How stupid can you be?? The other morons who try to compare what Romney did in Mass for healthcare is the same as what Obama wants is also a bunch of BS. The difference is on a state level and what is going to be pushed down our throats on a federal level. How ignorant are you?? It appears the liberal idiots who still want to support the liar-in-chief are not only out of touch with reality and life itself. Life is tough enough but it is a lot tougher if you are stupid!!

I'm trying to understand how that plays out for those who are unemployed and can't find work. According to you, only people working should be able to get gov't assistance - right??? Sounds like a catch 22 to me. But you're an expert at that - I forgot.

The Republicans' goal has consistently been to kill welfare and anything else where they can gain money to further push the country into a two-class society with "the few" (1%) feeding their insatiable "more" (never enough) appetite while the majority (99%) loose more. No one (except a very few) wants a welfare state but to cater to "the few" and to neglect understanding that aid programs that give the poor a leg up, that help them move up the economic ladder to becoming more productive, helps all of society, including by providing profits for the wealthy. Concentrating only on making the wealthy more wealthy was Bush-Cheney's focus and to return to "more of the same" would also return the majority to "more of the same" in costs and subterfuge.

Not to mention it is not mentioned as one of the duties of the Government in the constitution. The idea it was sold as it was a safty net, not a new life style choice. I now more under 30 people on it then people over 65. The main reason we do not like it is because if the privite sector did it, it would be called a "ponsi" scheme. History show the government peoo;e that did this are now in prison. But the government can pay people with other peoples money, and it is ok. Why didn't they just create retirement accounts, where people and companies put money into the persons account, like a 401K. The person woold be incontrol of it. No government debt would come from it. Chile and more then a dozen countries have been using this type of system for more then 20 years, with great results. People have to learn to take responability for their own lives, and quit depending on the government for handouts.

They literally take the majority for granted as they feel confident that with the money, power and influence of their strong supporters they can con the people and manipulate public opinion at their will. Besides, their being fixated on serving “the money’s” interests just doesn’t leave any room to really serve the people. It has been said that the current Republican / Tea Party is incapable of honestly and responsibly governing for the people, the majority, and throughout the last twelve years they have totally substantiated that. The facts they constantly demonstrate fully substantiate all of this and to ignore the reality is just self-delusional and even self-defeating. Want better from them, then firmly reject them for what they have become and they will get the message.

When Clinton signed the Welfare bill, it made work a requirement. Obama with Exc. Order took the "work" out of the bill. He is changing law, (someting the constitution give only to the Congress) with these orders. He complained about Bush doing it and has done it more then almost all presidents put together. Obama is got to be the biggest lier as president to date. At least Reid lies in the senate floor where he knows he can not be arrested for telling lies.

                                                                    Reply#115 - Thu Aug 9, 2012 2:34 PM EDT

Party blind indeed! First of all, Clintons reform required work but has limited all of the assistance under that to a 60 month maximum, either in a row or throughout a life time. So, you ignorant right wingers never cease to amaze me with your regurgitation of some Fox Twit or skirt. No facts, no knowledge, and no solution is all I see from you all. I say its time to draw arms! I say say its time for us to meet in some fields and have it out once again. Good will always prevail, and evil can only win when good men (and women) do nothing. Let's do this! I would much rather be huntin and fishin with my family than having over a third of my life taken from me by some fat cat with too much already just lookin for more. Any time, any place. Lets get the 2nd American Civil War going on!

                                                                      #115.1 - Thu Aug 9, 2012 2:39 PM EDT

Unlike the Liberial stations Fox has liberials debate consertives, you hear both sides. You get a unique picture when you use black and white to get a picture, in stead just one color. I like fact, something libs don't like. In america we are free to choose or job. We can leave any business at any time, It is very easy to just walk out of a job at any sencond. No one forces us to work for a certian company. If you want a job at a perticular company you have the right to school to get the knowlege required by that company. They also have the right not to hire (but they have legal obsticals in their way). as they have lows to follow. Those so called fat cats creat jobs, people have the choice to decide if they want to work for them. I too would rather be fishing with my family, but I have responsibilites to them. I do take responsibility in that I invest and have started my own businesss and rentals to help secure their future. It is surprising how much you can save when you don't eat out every night, and go to the movies once a year.

We have been in a civil war for some time now.

Back in 06 liberials won the congress consertives had the presidency.

08 Liberials won the Congress and the presidency

10 consertives won the house back and closed liberal senate majority liberial president.

12 it is the year for the public to again choose the next direction the country will choose. All three are up for grabs. It normally takes 2 years for changes to be noticed in the public sector. (because of the time for laws to be inforced and time for the privite secotor to react.

So Consertives don't understand how liberials can feel the way they do, and Liberials can't understand how Consertives think the way they do. The country will have to decide wither to feel or think in the next election.

                                                                        #115.2 - Thu Aug 9, 2012 3:02 PM EDT

Well, it seems as though everytime we "choose" a president, the same disintegration continues at a higher rate. Considering we are "given" our "choices" to choose from leaves us not with democracy, but well groomed Corporate spokespersons in the seat, doing the bidding of Corporations, for corporations. Whether it is right or left, it takes us down the same path. Do you really believe that these companies will bring jobs back. If you are telling me that I am to pay a higher % of taxes than rich people then that is absolutely the biggest crock I can here from this Country. I expect everyone, rich or poor to be required to pay the same amount in percentage. Woe to he who makes more than one needs and be expected to pay what I, in the middle class, is expected to pay. To hear the masses utter such filth is anethema to me. I am apalled that a few rich people think it is okay for them to pay less, in percentage than me just because the number looks bigger. The fact that someone making 12, 500 a year is taxed at near 20% between state and fed while someone making millions is required to pay 10 to 15 is apalling. The amount the rich man pays only looks bigger, but the higher percentage to someone actually working hard takes a bigger toll. All of a sudden they cant make it on groceries, so yes, food stamps come into play. All so a rich man can sit on his yacht and drink Crystal champaign while snubbing their filthy noses at the rest of hard working Americans. Get the big picture, there are corporations now exploiting resources, children, and polluting land as they did here a hundred years ago. To give them more money to leave us behind with nothing more than debt and no jobs is apalling. Fox does not have both sides! That is the biggest ass lie I have ever seen. As a fiscal conservative, yet socially tolerant, I was disgusted by their use of batant propaganda and can not even stomach to watch them. I am neither republican nor democrat. I am intelligent and independent. I avoid the masses and the reason I do is here in these pages. So again, lets rise this to battle and see which of us are rigtheous and which is not! Good will always prevail as evidenced everytime the Kenites have usurped prosperity and freedom. From feudalist England to the Revolution for independence and now again during these sick times of people who care more about themselves, their trinkets, their useless money, and their lack of empathy and compassion. Jesus didn't seel his fish, nor even declare that capitalism is His system. Again, propaganda to fuel the elite. I guess those who are not the 1% are cattle and will dealt as such very soon. The masses are ignorant.

                                                                          #115.3 - Thu Aug 9, 2012 5:01 PM EDT

Knock, Knock! Is anyone home here anymore! I believe that for all of you with a brain left that thinks for itself, you must now know the enlightened truth. On one side we have psychological disorders, such as narcissism and anti-social personality disorders as evidenced by the amount of hedonism found in the rhetoric today. On the other side we have ignorant masses of people moving to the music of the Piper leading the lemmings to ruin. Anyone who has not figured out that our two-party system is actually one party working in unison, groomed by the elite, are either insane or ignorant. Either way, those of you in here that have the eyes to see and the ears to hear must know now that you are stuck in the middle of two very dangerous types of people. On one hand, you have Obama and the left. They are working hard to bring about controls that will supress our ability to defend ourselves, want to continue to print fake money as a way in dealing with the all tooo much outputs we have, and signing bills that give despot powers to the presidents seat. They are good "boys and girls." On the other side we have Willard and his right wing bible thumpin' but not knowing the message therein and police state, more wars, and antisocial personality traits that cause a lack of empathy and hedonistic ways. These people are hell bent at becoming the moral police, not too much unlike Satan in that they wish to be god, provide billions to trillions of dollars to their buddies in defense contracts as we continue to throw billions to trillions on a useless, unfounded war. Pakistan and Iran are next. (Two air craft carriers now in the middle east- the war machine is getting ramped up to imperialize more nations for the sake of corporate profits and new markets. They want us under the most restricted police state since the Soviet Union. The are eugenisists using propaganda and lies to get the good lemmings to believe it. They are not seeking a free society that is prosperous nor even tolerant. Pure evil on both sides of the aisle. For those who think for themselves and asttempt to bring ideas to discuss and find solution, they simply want what the masses are giving them, distraction from the FACT that both take big money from powerful people to do what those powerful people want! Prepare yourelves for the worst as whoever the elite put into office this year will bring about a continuation of the problem.

The fact that people can't look around and see that the land of the free and the home of the brave is missing in action, it is simply because each president form each party has continued the policies from their predacessors, not in the arena of taxes, gay marriage, gun rights, etc... but on the removal of the Consitutional Rights at the birth of this great Nation. But, evil now exists in our congress and our whitehouse! I bet Willard doesn't even know the Constitution. It is not his job to do that. Those out here with a brain that has not been washed through simple propaganda and influence should prepare to avoid the masses. They are dangerous! One is psychotic and the other ignorant followers without free will nor free thinking. Dangerous. Stay low and get out of the way. These are the times that the Prophets "wanted to be on earth" because the beast is rising from the sea and either party you choose is getting us there. So keep punching the reds and blues and keep voting for the same fascist regime. After all, the Protocols clearly identifies this as their plan all along. Good little lemmings. Please buy my snake oit. it is a cure all. Got 100 dollar bottles of it here. Just hit me up if you want my magic pill, lol. Peace
