VIDEO: First Read Minute: The wet towel election

NBC's Mark Murray and Domenico Montanaro question whether the saturation point for campaign ads has been reached with spending this week alone nearing $50 million.

Discuss this post

Willard is more like a wet blanket!

The further this drags on, the more convinced I am all of these ads don't mean a thing!

The 10% or less whose vote is actually undecided, are already burnt out, and their minds will not be made up by all of this senseless spending!

It's the debates that are going to decide, which is not good news for Willard...

The Obama Team has defined Romney as a wealthy man who doesn't tell the truth and won't reveal his taxes. All the money Romney spends from now till election day will be noise...just noise.

The old saying is stated as " nothing is certain but death and taxes".

Romney is re-writing it to read "Nothing is certain but death, so long as you can avoid taxes as I have".

We have reached the saturation point with Willard's ADS. It's like his head. Things go in but nothing comes out. No surprise!!! People are fed up with Willard "MYTH" R-money. The only inundation the American people want to see are: his tax returns, his possible voter fraud, and for the "MYTH" to buy him an island and park his a** there.

It's the debates that are going to decide, which is not good news for Willard...

I think for most of us, the anticipation is just like waiting for Christmas. We can go the rounds over and over about his taxes, his inability to take more than 3 questions while overseas, the fact that he runs crying to Fox whenever things don't go his way, but in front of a moderator and with the country watching, Mitt is going to have to answer a question or two. His whining isn't going to work.

Just an aside .. . I live with a Republican and I'm driving him nuts. He refused to let me hang the Newsweek cover on the fridge! ;-)

This statement really isn't worth my time, but i'm a sucker for educating the masses...

so, after 3.5 years of an Obama presidency, the whole "muslim name" thing is supposed to scare me i guess, but it doesn't. see, i don't allow fear to rule my body. "I must not fear. Fear is the mindkiller. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain." - Bene Gesserit litany against fear ;)

inept liar and ineffective leader eh? any citations to back this up? just more random talking points to try and slander a president you don't like, but who if you look at the ledger of pros and cons is heavily tilted to the pro side based on what he's done in office while having an opposing party who stated on day one that their entire goal was to limit him to one term. That (the republican congress' manifesto on day 1) is ineffectual leadership to me and those who see things without a partisan blinder on.

Funny how only the conservatives claim Obama is an Emperor or messiah. liberals and independents certainly don't call him that, he's just a politician who happens to have a better platform than any other politician since i've been following politics (circa 1992 when i was 17). Has he fullfilled all the points on that platform to my satisfaction? no, but he certainly has addressed more issues that are important to me and my family than any other past president, and his governing philosophy has been mostly unchanged from what he outlined in "The Audacity of Hope", which proves to me that he is following what he believes to be the best course for this country. I happen to agree with those goals, and that is why i support him. Emperor or messiah, no, we don't view him that way. why do conservatives?

Our President kept the country out of a Depression IN SPITE of the Republicans who frankly don't give a damn about the country - just winning. Shades of Charlie Sheen - and that is NOT a compliment.

And, now you run an idiot who can't talk to the media and can't produce even the minimum in tax returns - unlike EVERY other Presidential candidate in modern time.

You really need to look in the mirror if you want to see someone who needs and education!

WCA - I don't recall anyone saying they would "walk through hot coals" for President Obama. I DO however realize he is head above EVERYONE the far right has!

Romney would do anything to win. He'd try to change his name to Oromna on the ballot if he could.

Think about it. The $700 billion dollars of lost revenue due to money in the Cayman Islands is on par with the stimulus. Add to that returning the top tax rates to Clinton-era levels, ending subsidies to corporations like Big Oil, and ending loopholes for corporations--even lowering the rate afterward we would collect more per the effective rate -- These measures would all add up to significant revenue.

Then indexing minimum wage to inflation making it about $11.00/hr. right now, and enacting the rest of the Jobs Act with investments in infrastructure, hiring teachers and other public sector employees, and the economy could take off immediately.

The Teapublicans and the Shysters they answer to are the problem, not the solution. Why anyone would vote for a shyster like Romney is mind-bending.

Tzalaran -- All the bigotry toward the president, and fear-mongering from dimwits like Bachmann and others regarding Sharia Law and infiltration of the Muslim Brotherhood, which does NOT exist -- Add to that lax gun laws, and people who are mental will do things like the shooting at the Sikh temple.

Will rightwingers take accountability for their Hate Speech? They wouldn't know personal responsibility or exceptionalism or values, etc. if these bit them in the arse.

so, after 3.5 years of an Obama presidency, the whole "muslim name" thing is supposed to scare me i guess,

I do not think he is a Muslim, but neither do I think he is particularly religious. It's fairly obvious that he chose his church in Chicago for political reasons, and discarded it as quickly when politically necessary.

and his governing philosophy has been mostly unchanged from what he outlined in "The Audacity of Hope", which proves to me that he is following what he believes to be the best course for this country.

Really? Seems to me he is still politically expedient as he claims in "Dreams of my Father".

To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists and punk-rock performance poets.

And now he has evolved on Gay Marriage and DREAMers just before the election. How convenient.

Mitt Romney's problem is that he does not have any real support from the Republican Party. Being the person who is "not Obama" is not the same as having a core set of principals and people who support you. Since the Republican party is fond of giving President Obama the label "Messiah", does that make Mitt Romney the anti-christ ?

Remember the words of Edmund Burke "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing."

Do something in November, vote Democratic or evil will triumph.

This unnamed redhead also told me about a recent trip to Nevada where this person arranged a trip to meet a 10 year old kid. I also heard that the redhead and Reid are charter members of NAMBLA.

Now it's up to Reid and the redhead to show proof that he isn't into raping little kids, but until he shows proof I guess the country should just look at him as a child rapist.

      Memo to ex-Governor Romney.

You should view the income taxes you paid as a source of PRIDE, not SHAME. You should publicize the amount of taxes you have paid to buttress your professed dedication to the United States by showing us that your money follows your convictions.

If you don't want the pesky DNC poking though your undergarments, just authorize your accountants or lawyers issue a summary of your total income and tax paid.

Personally I think the RNC is taking a big risk running a candidate who has not been able to make a personal connection with the voters after 8 years of campaigning. His support is the anti –Obama crowd.

As much as Obama spends on deceiving ads about Mitt Romney and Bain Capital and as much as the liberal media tries to deceiveAmerica on Romney's record. America knows the truth. Just like 2010 what we are seeing is classic America at it's best. Sooner or later in any argument common sense wins out. We know we need a better leader in the White House. It will take a good president to turn around the miss-guided policies of this administration and get America back on track. Romney has proven he can work with both sides of the isle. Romney 2012!

and you think that will happen after 4 years of what the GOP did to the current administration?

Here's a radical idea: if, in fact, they're at the point of over saturation in the swing states, maybe they could spend a little elsewhere to make a few more states competitive. Who knows? Maybe Montana really is a possible Obama win after all? Nate Silver seems to think it's not impossible. Maybe Romney could make Oregon competitive.

The newest research from Nate has it as:
                On Friday

“Obama chance of winning 70.2% Romney 29.8%”

                Today

“Obama chance of winning 72.4% Romney 27.6%”

The Koch bros are buying 40 million dollars to inundate the swing states. Now that's just too much saturation for the Koch bros zombies to comprehend. Plus, the people are awakening. the only thing they want in their heads is: to see his tax returns, his possible voter fraud, and for the "MYTH" to buy him an island and park his a** there.

                Yeah, Yeah!!!

The Koch's, Marriott's, and other billionaires can spend all they want here in Oregon and it won't help Willard get elected. Romney is thought of as a rich, out-of-touch, spoiled brat. Of course I presume he will get the votes of the 150,000 Mormons here. (there are 60,000 African-americans here in Oregon for Obama). The real problem for Romney is that the more that people find out about him, the less they want to vote for him. Of course their polling and consultants know this, so you won't see many ads in those states. The ads would just be negative to Obama and probably not even mention Romney; but they know there would be a response and they don't want to stir up that hornets nest.

I feel so sorry for the Republicans. They are having no luck making effective attack ads. Doesn't help the President is such a good guy. At the end of one of the attack ads, after outlining all our economic ills, they show a woman's face and a doleful voice asks her "are you going to support Obama again?" And I always say back to the TV " Why, yes, I will."

Because it's not Obama's fault Bush left us with a collapsing economy; the President has lead us out of the worst so far, and I like him.

It must be something really bad in Mitt's tax returns. Mitt wants to run on his record only he won't let anyone see his record. I think Mitt's honesty is like the WMD's in Iraq, they both don't exist.

It doesn't matter how much Romney raises, this tax return thing has done him in! He is being branded, and he was out maneuvered by Harry Reid. Harry has nothing to lose, as Harry is 76. He is not running again! But, Romney has a lot to lose, and the Bain executives are completely distressed about this issue. Romney has a darn good reason for not showing his tax returns, and people have to realize why somebody puts their money in offshore accounts and it isn't always just for tax havens. Who uses that money? There are studies done on this, and it puts Bain and Romney in a heck of a spot. Problem is if he doesn't show them, he is getting branded anyway.

Time for the Democrats to jump on and put him away! Romney is going down!!!

                      Election 2012: Indiana President

                      Romney Up Big in Indiana

                      Sunday, August 05, 2012

Four years ago, President Obama became the first Democrat since 1964 to win Indiana. He looks unlikely to repeat that feat.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the state finds challenger Mitt Romney picking up 51% of the vote while the president earns just 35%. Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate, and 11% are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The Indiana survey of 400 Likely Voters was conducted July 31-August 1, 2012 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 5 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC.

For all you swing-state libtards, you just lost another state!!!

The big question?? Will Obama blame Bush in his concession speech?? That would be consistant of him at least.
