Is it just me, or do other people just shut off the sound when a campaign ad comes on.

Frankly, I think they are going to find that people are starting to get pissed off at the number and repetitiveness of the campaign ads.

I know that negative ads work, but I like the positive ads much better.

Very well put! to Romney, running a state or running a country is vulture business as usuall - it's an investment to make profit for himself! To him, it's what business is all about! However, This is not economy is about. It's absolutely ludicrous how many people are stupid enough to think a businessman like Romney could know what economy is about! Economy requires balancing and interaction of all sectors including labor, societies, resources, businesses, politics, domestic affairs, foreign affairs, etc. it's not about profitting oneself. Economy is not about making the rich richer hoping they will trickle down to the lower classes. Mitt Romney's business experience is in totally tipping the balance! He and the GOP and their rich financers know only making profits for themselves and evading tax by putting the majority of their $$ overseas. Why are their $$ invested in oversea accounts instead of trickling down in this country where their wealth is made? What does Romney know about balances? When does he care about creating jobs in this country? And most of all, when will he be able to stop lying to his countrymen? Yet most disturbing of all, when will 40% of the americans open up their minds and stop fooling themselves but to realize who Mitt Romney and the GOP congressmen and governors really are!

Look at all this money and what is it being spent on, the Dems and GOP mud slinging at each other. There are millions of people out of work and running out of money. You have children going hungry. Romney ISN'T outspending Obama, even though he IS outraisng Obama, for the simple reason that HE CAN'T YET. You see, that funding is going into Romney's PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN FUND. Since he technically isn't even the Republican candidate yet, just the presumptive candidate, he can't actually spend money from his presidential campaign fund yet. Wait until the Republican convention is over and then you'll see oodles of ads sponsored and payed for by Romney, with his face and all.

Of course, we all know funding isn't everything. After all, Obama matched funds with McCain in 2008, right? Oh, wait, he broke that promise.

And as for Citizens United, they can only buy your vote if you're willing to sell it to them. Otherwise, your vote is still in your hands.

It is my contention that TEA-Republican's are astounded that Obama has accomplished so much in such a short period of time. Sorry non-Patriot! Nobody flipping burgers for a living should be paid $11.00 an hour. Maybe the working poor need to improve THEMSELVES so their career isn't that of minimum wage earning. Minimum wage was NEVER meant to be what people raise families on. It is meant for what it is - minimum work, manual work, not requiring an education work, not requiring much intelligence work. This is for entry level and those that otherwise want or only need pocket money. You aren't supposed to make a career out of burger flipping or expect to take care of yourself, much less others on it!

The only fair taxation is flat tax. If you choose to flip burgers for a living, you should pay the same percentage in federal taxes that I do!

Nope, where I was at it was nearly impossible to get terminated. I left on my own. The prevailing work ethic was 'as little as possible' but make it look like you were busy. There were people who would come into work, sit on a bucket all day long and still not get terminated. The management would abolish that persons job to get them to bid another position which always caused havoc down the line too, but it rarely happened.

I currently work where exceptional work is rewarded, and I take my lunches when I want to based upon the work load or what is needed.

I do get paid overtime, by law, over 40 hrs, the federal law. My position is non-union and I like it that way, of course I take what holidays are offered, the company offers them, why not take them?

Would you prefer that the working poor receive tax credits so that in effect they pay no federal income taxes, or would you prefer the guy flipping burgers is paid $11/hour and pays full taxes on that income? In areas that already pay a living wage, the economy is far better and government services are not needed to subsidize the poor. It's always better to create a society in which folks can do for themselves -- In this case I'd prefer to see businesses pay people better instead of the tax breaks because it would stimulate the economy.

And in regard to the 47% not paying federal income taxes, would you prefer that we continue to redistribute wealth via the child tax credit of $1,000 per child, making folks without dependents pay a higher rate to further subsidize families by also paying for public education, health care, day care, etc. for those children -- Or renters who pay mortgage taxes passed on to them by their landlords versus folks who own a home? It would be better and more fair to get rid of the tax credits and just lower the tax rates for everyone below the richest 2%.

Because another unintended consequence is that other taxes, such as city taxes and sales taxes go up to compensate. Once again, these are regressive forms of taxation that hit the middle class and poor harder than the rich.

In a lot of corporate America... there are no lunches. If the job needs to get done, you get it done. There is no overtime either. You work till it's done. A living wage (or minimum wage indexed to inflation) forces the pay-scale upward so that the more skilled and/or educated workers are paid better wages as well making the entire economy better. Supply-side Reaganomics is voodoo, especially the "trickle-down" tax cuts for the rich (or now erroneously referred to as "job creators"). When the middle class does well, everyone does better including businesses and the rich. That's because the middle class is the engine in our economy -- they create the demand part of "supply and demand."

This is the choice voters will make this election. Minimum wage was NEVER meant to be what people raise families on. It is meant for what it is - minimum work, manual work, not requiring an education work, not requiring much intelligence work.

First of all, had the minimum wage increased along with inflation, it wouldn't be used to raised families, as wages would have gone up with the increases. Secondly, the minimum wage was not necessarily for low-skill workers; it could easily be applied for high-tech employees. It is merely a floor by which people are supposed to use (like a foundation) for wages.

The only fair taxation is flat tax. If you choose to flip burgers for a living, you should pay the same percentage in federal taxes that I do!

The flat tax is NOT fair. The less money I make, the more utility I will lose by paying taxes. Let's say there is a flat rate of 10%; a guy making $50,000 pays $5k, and a guy making $500,000 pays $50k. What is more, $5k to someone making $50,000, or $50k to someone making $500,000???? The lower you go on the income scale, the lower your economic utility is when you pay a flat rate.

Simple Jim: progressive tax systems essentially taxes people proportionately according to their own ability to pay. Instead of forcing one group to pay more than the other, each income group pays a rate that is judged as equal in terms of economic utility. It also decreases income inequality, which is a thorn in the side of a democracy (or republic) because it asserts that one group is getting most of the benefits of society. Now, income inequality is natural under a capitalist economy, large amounts of inequality (like in the United States) is unnecessary; during the long postwar boom, income distribution was as egalitarian as it ever was, and during it we had significant economic prosperity and a large and thriving middle class. Simply put, a progressive tax ensures that all people are equal in the eyes of society and the eyes of the law.

As for the flat tax and the "fair tax," they are not as fair as you think; in fact, they are extremely unequal. The fair tax is a consumption tax that affects those who tend to spend more of their income; aka the middle class and the working poor. This tax barely effects the wealthy, since most of their after-tax income goes to investments or is merely saved. As for the flat tax, I stated above that it is also regressive, as it reduces the economic utility of the poor far more than on the rich. Oh bull@!$%#; in my opinion, there is a sort of tax policy cycle in which after the establishment or reform/simplification of a tax code, politicians tend to fit in numerous tax breaks, some to benefit lobbyists who keep pecking Congress for loopholes, others to somehow help the economy. Once the code becomes to unfair or complex via the abundance of tax expenditures, people seek to reform the code, and the cycle repeats itself; it's a lot like the business cycle. I say this burden is a worthy price to pay for income equality and economic fairness. You may say it is wealth redistribution, and frankly it is; but that is the beauty of it. The government reserves the right, in my opinion, to redistribute wealth only when inequality becomes a major problem, and currently it is. Income inequality leads to lackluster economic growth and slow recoveries; it can also cause recessions by starting situations in which middle class incomes stagnate as more of the benefits of economic growth go to the wealthiest Americans, forcing people to rely on credit in order to help bridge the gap between consumption and income, leading to larger debt burdens that eventually lead to a massive slowdown in consumer demand.

You Liberals look at taxes as a system of rewards and punishments. Punish the successful and reward the unsuccessful. This is NOT what taxes were ever intended to be. When you add the absolute dysfunction and complexity of our current ridiculous tax system together the only result is disaster.

But if you lived in Rockville, MD and could get 40 hours per week, with a family of 4, you would not have to pay income taxes. In fact, you would get a 120 refund from the IRS. You would have to pay the state 6 dollars in income taxes. Assuming you could find a place to live for 450 a month (try that), the programs you are eligible for from the state of Maryland are listed below. In other words, the taxpayers are forced to supplement the income from those great jobs Mitt created. If you find this acceptable, then Mitt is your man. Like he says, he knows how to create jobs, you just may not be able to live from the income unless you are willing to take welfare in order to make him richer.

Of course, Bain Capital also owns Clear Channel Communications, which pays Rush Limbaugh millions to spread their propaganda. But there are not many of those jobs available.

Like Mitts says, you have to look at his record to see what kind of jobs he would create.

4. “We love to co-invest with other venture capitalists.” Like the sun rising and Canadians playing hockey, you can depend on the greed of venture capitalists. Greed in this business translates to “If this is a good deal, I want it all.” What entrepreneurs want to hear is, “We want the whole round. We don't want any other investors.” Then it's the entrepreneur's job to convince them why other investors can make the pie bigger as opposed to re-configuring the slices.
5. “We're investing in your team.” This is an incomplete statement. While it's true that they are investing in the team, entrepreneurs are hearing, “We won't fire you--why would we fire you if we invested because of you?” That's not what the venture capitalist is saying at all. What she is saying is, “We're investing in your team as long as things are going well, but if they go bad we will fire your ass because no one is indispensable.”
6. “I have lots of bandwidth to dedicate to your company.” Maybe the venture capitalist is talking about the T3 line into his office, but he's not talking about his personal calendar because he's already on ten boards. Counting board meetings, an entrepreneur should assume that a venture capitalist will spend between five to ten hours a month on a company. That's it. Deal with it. And make board meetings short!
7. “This is a vanilla term sheet.” There is no such thing as a vanilla term sheet. Do you think corporate finance attorneys are paid $400/hour to push out vanilla term sheets? If entrepreneurs insist on using a flavor of ice cream to describe term sheets, the only flavor that works is Rocky Road. This is why they need their own $400/hour attorney too--as opposed to Uncle Joe the divorce lawyer.
8. “We can open up doors for you at our client companies.” This is a double whammy of lie. First, a venture capitalist can't always open up doors at client companies. Frankly, he might be hated by the client company. The worst thing in the world may be a referral from him. Second, even if the venture capitalist can open the door, entrepreneurs can't seriously expect the company to commit to your product--that is, something that isn't much more than a slick (10/20/30) PowerPoint presentation.
9. “We like early-stage investing.” Venture capitalists fantasize about putting $1 million into a $2 million pre-money company and end up owning 33% of the next Google. That's early stage investing. Do you know why we all know about Google's amazing return on investment? The same reason we all know about Michael Jordan: Googles and Michael Jordans hardly ever happen. If they were common, no one would write about them. If you scratch beneath the surface, venture capitalists want to invest in proven teams (eg., the founders of Cisco) with proven technology (eg., the basis of a Nobel Prize) in a proven market (eg., ecommerce). We are remarkably risk averse considering it's not even our money.

If you're talking about health reform, Romney wouldn't do squat. Assuming that he actually he will do it, the only things I can think of are malpractice reform and allowing insurers to sell across state lines, the latter of which would lead to lower coverage because insurers would flock to states with lower regulations. Neither of them will make a significant dent in healthcare costs. If you're talking about other fiscal decisions, Romney will INCREASE the deficit with his tax plan, a giant tax cut for the rich. Even if he wanted to pay for it, he'd have to raise taxes on everyone else.
