Are we now reaching the saturation point in TV ads? It’s possible that $45-50 million could be spent on the presidential race this week alone -- in August (!!!)… Romney campaign looking to turn page on a rough last seven weeks… Here’s one way it’s trying to achieve that: by announcing that Team Romney (campaign, RNC, victory fund) raised more than $100 million in July… Yesterday’s tragic shooting in Wisconsin… The Paul Ryan VP boomlet… GOP convention unveils a partial list of its speakers… Washington Post lands a punch on Plouffe… And the New Republic scrutinizes Stu Stevens.
*** Reaching the saturation point: Last week, the campaigns, political parties, and outside interest groups spent almost $40 million in TV ads in the presidential contest, according to ad-spending data from SMG Delta. And this week, with the Americans for Prosperity $25 million buy for the next month (which breaks out to some $5 million per week), that number could very well jump up to $45 million or $50 million -- in August. And in just 8-12 battleground states. We often struggle to find the words to describe UNBELIEVABLE amounts of money being spent on this presidential race. But close to $50 million in a week is absolutely stunning. It’s also unchartered territory. Are there diminishing returns on this advertising? Do ads become less effective? How do you break through the clutter? We just don’t know. But here’s one thing we do know: At some point, no matter how much more water you put on a towel, it becomes harder to make it wetter. That’s why they call it saturation.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney points to someone in the audience as he is greeted with cheers and applause at a campaign event held at Sierra Truck Body & Equipment, in North Las Vegas, Nevada, August 3, 2012.
*** Trying to turn the page: Make no mistake: For much of the past seven weeks, Mitt Romney and his campaign have found themselves on the defensive -- on the Obama administration’s immigration announcement, the outsourcing charges, Bain Capital, the tax returns, and the overseas trip. Even on Friday, Team Romney was unable to completely change the subject with the better-than-expected jobs report (163,000 jobs created in July, though the unemployment rate ticked up to 8.3%). But as we’ve pointed out before, the Romney campaign has two key moments this month that will allow it to turn the page: the VP pick and the GOP convention. Dan Balz put it well in yesterday’s Washington Post: “The best that can be said about how Mitt Romney fared in July is that he survived. That has only raised the stakes for what the presumptive Republican presidential nominee needs to do in August… Over the next four weeks, he will need to do what the campaign long has said he would do, which is to introduce himself to the voters in a much more positive and appealing way. He’s known now more for his wealth than anything else, and not in a way that’s helpful.”
NBC's Mark Murray and Domenico Montanaro question whether the saturation point for campaign ads has been reached with spending this week alone nearing $50 million.
*** Team Romney rakes in another $100 million in July: Here’s another way the Romney campaign is trying to turn the page: by releasing its fundraising numbers. Early this morning, it announced that Team Romney (so the campaign, the RNC, the victory fund) raised $101.3 million in July. It’s the second-straight month it has pulled in more than $100 million, though this is down slightly from the $106.1 million in June. By comparison, Team Obama raked in $70 million in June. But our normal caveat here: Do note that this $101.3 million isn't the amount raised by the Romney CAMPAIGN -- it's the total raised by all three entities (campaign, RNC, victory fund). Ditto the cash on hand. And as we continually find out when we see the actual numbers filed with the FEC, the Obama campaign outraises the Romney campaign in the apples-to-apples comparison.
*** Yesterday’s tragic shooting in Wisconsin: It’s hard to ignore the second mass shooting in just over two weeks. Yesterday in Wisconsin a gunman opened fire at a Sikh temple, killing six and wounding others. Both Obama and Romney issued statements. “At this difficult time, the people of Oak Creek [WI] must know that the American people have them in our thoughts and prayers, and our hearts go out to the families and friends of those who were killed and wounded,” Obama said. “This was a senseless act of violence and a tragedy that should never befall any house of worship. Our hearts are with the victims, their families, and the entire Oak Creek Sikh community,” Romney added.
*** The Paul Ryan boomlet: All of a sudden, there has been VP buzz surrounding House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI). Much of this is coming from conservatives who are still trying to get excited about Romney’s candidacy. (See the Weekly Standard’s Stephen Hayes and Bill Kristol.) And these are the same folks who have been pushing Marco Rubio, but who probably see the handwriting on the wall here.
*** GOP convention unveils a list of its speakers: Last night, the Tampa Bay Times reported that seven Republicans -- Rick Scott, John McCain, Condoleezza Rice, Nikki Haley, Mike Huckabee, John Kasich and Susana Martinez -- will speak at the GOP convention. However, it’s very possible that none of these speakers will address in the primetime part of the convention, and the Tampa Bay Times notes that the RNC has yet released the day or time for these speeches. But here’s what we do know: If you were thinking there was an outside chance that Romney could pick Condi Rice or Susana Martinez as his VP running mate, this news pretty much eliminates that possibility.
*** Landing a punch on Plouffe: Remember when we wrote late last week that Republicans were targeting high-profile members of the Obama campaign? Well, this news isn’t going to stop that. The Washington Post: “David Plouffe, a senior White House adviser who was President Obama’s 2008 campaign manager, accepted a $100,000 speaking fee in 2010 from an affiliate of a company doing business with Iran’s government. A subsidiary of MTN Group, a South Africa-based telecommunications company, paid Plouffe for two speeches he made in Nigeria in December 2010, about a month before he joined the White House staff.” But allies of Plouffe push back on this article, noting that folks like Colin Powell gave speeches to firms cited for financing ties to Iran before joining the Bush administration. What’s more, there doesn’t seem to be any kind of quid pro quo. Nevertheless, the article lands a punch on Plouffe.
*** And profiling Stu Stevens: But Plouffe isn’t the only high-ranking adviser getting scrutiny. The New Republic profiles top Romney strategist Stuart Stevens. Among the revelations, Stevens told friends in 2008 -- including his book editor -- that he planned to vote for Obama in 2008. (Stevens says he didn’t vote for Obama.) It also notes that Stevens has written the screenplay for an HBO movie about how the New York Times uncovered Bush’s domestic-spying initiatives. And the New Republic reports that Stevens -- when working for McCain in ’07 -- urged the Arizona senator to hit Romney hard during that cycle’s GOP presidential primary. The McCain campaign didn’t think that strategy was good advice.
*** On the trail: Obama raises money in Connecticut, while Romney is down… For the rest of the week, Obama stumps in Colorado on Wednesday and Thursday… And Romney hits Illinois and Iowa on Tuesday.

President Obama is going to be re-elected! Thank God!
The Center for American Progress Action Fund finds that Romney's "Plan for a Stronger Middle-Class" will kill 360,000 jobs next year alone:
"In a white paper outlining his economic platform, Believe in America: Mitt Romney's Plan for Jobs and Economic Growth, he offers a 59-point plan to create jobs and lower unemployment. Unfortunately, no amount of economic theory, real world evidence, basic arithmetic, or just plain logic could substantiate the belief that his 59-point jobs plan could create even 59 net new jobs in the U.S. economy…In total, by a conservative tally, Gov. Romney's 59-point plan would actually cost the economy about 360,000 jobs in 2013 alone."
President Bush's economic plan to grow jobs by chopping taxes for the wealthy & big corporations, resulted in the the weakest economic expansion in post-World War II U.S. history.
Followed by the Great Recession, 20007 to 2009.
Mitt Romney's economic plan is described as President Bush's plan "on steroids". The CAPAF shows it will cause job losses, not job growth. And Romney proposals such as his tax incentives for outsourcing cannot BUT undermine Americans jobs!
As CEO, Romney's real specialty was benefiting from others' misfortunes, manipulating companies and profiting from their woes ~ his job at Bain Capital was not to create jobs. After Governor Romney served out his term, Massachusetts was 47th in the nation for job creation. As we can see, there is zero evidence to support Romney's claim that he'd create "12 million new jobs".
"I have paid taxes every year…A lot of taxes."
This is a quote from Willard Romney; however, he has been so disingenuous on so many issues Romney is no longer believable. Maybe the statement as it stands is true, but it begs the questions of are you talking about sales taxes and property tax? What about income taxes? What about those tax sheltered accounts in the Cayman Islands and Bermuda? What tax loopholes are you using? How could you have 100 million dollars in an IRA? Apparently that is impossible. And finally, is your tax rate below 13.9 %?
Harry Reid says he has it from reliable sources that Romney hasn't paid any taxes in 10 years. Could that possibly be true? Romney tells Reid to "put up or shut up", but Reid won't shut up. He trusts the veracity of his sources and Romney has a long history of NOT telling the truth.
Romney could have Harry Reid's scalp if he would do two things. First, release 10 years of tax returns and second, demonstrate that those returns are clean. But Harry Reid knows he is safe and the small amount of hair on his head will remain there. Harry knows that Romney can't release his returns because of what will be found there. Democrats know that Romney's taxes are his Achilles Heel and they will shoot arrows into that heel every day till Election Day.
One can only thank Senator Lindsey Graham, GOP strategists, Ed Rollins, and RNC Chairman, Reince Priebus, for keeping the story alive. Every day that passes, it is becoming more obvious that this is a battle Romney will lose. And Harry Reid: well, he will just stand on the sidelines and watch what happens.
Looks like another Dem (partially) free-lunch program is facing up to the reality of govt programs set up with Ponzi-like rules. Just like a Ponzi scheme, Social Security, started out with a lot of people paying into it and only a few collecting from it. As time goes on more and more people are collecting and the ratio of those paying into it is reduced. But, for many years people would get far more out of SS than they paid into it (the partial free-lunch). Now, it’s the opposite, average earning workers who retire now and in the future will pay MORE into SS than the will collect. And since SS is drawing down its surplus at a rate that will make it insolvent (defined as not having enough funds to pay its full promised obligations) in 2033, or more likely sooner, ALL CURRENT WORKERS will have to pay in MORE than they will ever get out just to keep SS from collapsing.
I’ll bet all those workers in their 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s are forever grateful to the lefty liberals for this “inheritance”.
BTW, this study was from the Urban Institute, not known as a right wing organization.
Social Security Not Deal It Once Was For Workers
by The Associated Press
WASHINGTON August 5, 2012, 03:12 pm ET
WASHINGTON (AP) — People retiring today are part of the first generation of workers who have paid more in Social Security taxes during their careers than they will receive in benefits after they retire. It's a historic shift that will only get worse for future retirees, according to an analysis by The Associated Press.
Previous generations got a much better bargain, mainly because payroll taxes were very low when Social Security was enacted in the 1930s and remained so for decades.
"For the early generations, it was an incredibly good deal," said Andrew Biggs, a former deputy Social Security commissioner who is now a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute. "The government gave you free money and getting free money is popular."
If you retired in 1960, you could expect to get back seven times more in benefits than you paid in Social Security taxes, and more if you were a low-income worker, as long you made it to age 78 for men and 81 for women.
As recently as 1985, workers at every income level could retire and expect to get more in benefits than they paid in Social Security taxes, though they didn't do quite as well as their parents and grandparents.
Not anymore.
A married couple retiring last year after both spouses earned average lifetime wages paid about $598,000 in Social Security taxes during their careers. They can expect to collect about $556,000 in benefits, if the man lives to 82 and the woman lives to 85, according to a 2011 study by the Urban Institute, a Washington think tank.
Looks like lefty liberal Dems are OK with losing the economic war by throwing the poorly performing American economy under the bus in their zealotry to win the class warfare battle. Economic terrorist, Dem Senator Patty Murray, has already threatened that the Dems will let the economy go off the fiscal cliff into another recession in early 2013 if they don’t get their way on raising taxes on the “rich”. A lefty liberal poster last week (Dennis Columbus, Ohio, I think) was trying to downplay any economic harm by saying it could all be fixed in the first couple of months in 2013 and everything would be OK. As I said to him, businesses are looking ahead and making decisions TODAY based on what they see happening, or not happening in the future. I said that means businesses are holding back on plans to expand their businesses, buy new equipment and hire new workers TODAY based on the Dem economic terrorist threats. I also said the fear of the Dem economic terrorists was a factor in the Q2 slowdown in GDP from a dismal 2% in Q1 to a piss-poor 1.5% in Q2. Now, the NY Times is saying the same thing as I did, which means lefty liberals are required to believe it’s the truth.

Fearing an Impasse in Congress, Industry Cuts Spending
The New York Times
| 06 Aug 2012 | 02:39 AM ET
A rising number of manufacturers are canceling new investments and putting off new hires because they fear paralysis in Washington will force hundreds of billions in tax increases and budget cuts in January, undermining economic growth in the coming months.
Executives at companies making everything from electrical components and power systems to automotive parts say the fiscal stalemate is prompting them to pull back now, rather than wait for a possible resolution to the deadlock on Capitol Hill.
Democrats and Republicans are far apart on how to extend the Bush-era tax breaks beyond January — the same month automatic spending reductions are set to take effect — unless there is a deal to trim the deficit. The combination of tax increases and spending cuts is creating an economic threat called “the fiscal cliff” by Ben S. Bernanke, chairman of the Federal Reserve.
Until recently, the loudest warnings about the economy have come from policy makers and economists, along with military industry executives who rely heavily on the Pentagon’s largess and who would be hurt by the government reductions.
But more diversified companies like Hubbell Inc. in Shelton, Conn., have begun to hunker down as well.
Hubbell, a maker of electrical products, has canceled several million dollars’ worth of equipment orders and delayed long-planned factory upgrades in the last few months, said Timothy H. Powers, the company’s chief executive. It has also held off hiring workers for about 100 positions that would otherwise have been filled, he said.
“The fiscal cliff is the primary driver of uncertainty, and a person in my position is going to make a decision to postpone hiring and investments,” Mr. Powers said. “We can see it in our order patterns, and customers are delaying. We don’t have to get to the edge of the cliff before the damage is done.”
The worries come amid broader fears that the economy is losing momentum — the annual rate of economic growth in the second quarter fell to 1.5 percent from 2 percent in the first quarter, and 4.1 percent in the last quarter of 2011.
On Thursday, the Commerce Department reported that factory orders unexpectedly fell 0.5 percent in June from the previous month, while data on the labor market released Friday showed job creation still falling short of the level needed to bring down the unemployment rate.
All told, the political gridlock in the United States, along with the continuing debt crisis in Europe, will shave about half a percentage point off growth in the second half of the year, estimates Vincent Reinhart, chief United States economist at Morgan Stanley.
More than 40 percent of companies surveyed by Morgan Stanley in July cited the fiscal cliff as a major reason for their spending restraint, Mr. Reinhart said. He expects that portion to rise when the poll is repeated this month.
hate to tell you this Joe, but my children are so happy they won't be taking care of my husband and me they are ok with paying into the social security system. I was very thankful my 86 year old Mom had it (lost her last year, very sad as she was one of the true good people in this world) along with her Medicare benefits - we would not have been able to afford good care for her without it. So you logic may make sense to someone in your income bracket but to those of us who really work for a living and make less than $100,000 per year we look at things quite differently - our parents are still very important to us, just as much so as are children are - and guess what? Our parents are not this greedy/ me-mine/gotta have it now and it's gotta be the best ever made group than our children are (not mine as we were pretty strict and monitary and material things were never important to us or to them growing up).
Despite relentless obstruction by GOP, President Obama created more jobs (4.5 million in 28 months) and at a faster pace - than President Bush did in his 8 years.
The unemployment rate at the end of GWB's term was 7.8%.
If 759,000 public sector workers had not been fired by Republican governors, unemployment would now be at 7%.
If we'd ADDED government jobs as have previous Presidents including GWB and Reagan, as an economic recovery strategy ~ unemployment would now be around 6%.
And as we continually find out when we see the actual numbers filed with the FEC, the Obama campaign outraises the Romney campaign in the apples-to-apples comparison.
Thank you NBC for making this moot point once again. When you consider that the Romney Super PACs can also bring a great deal of money to bear (more than Obama's) and that Big Labor doesn't seem quite as excited about spending their money as they once did, the bottom line is that the Romney campaign has more money available to it than the Obama campaign does. This disparity will be more pronounced after the Republican convention when the campaign officially begins.
On May 24, 1968, I graduated from high school. On June 4, 1968, I received my draft notice. On June 17, 1968, I arrived at the Naval Training Center at Great Lakes, Illinois. I served proudly until my discharge from active duty in April, 1972.
I do not understand the support Mr. Romney is receiving from veteran organizations. Mr. Romney fully supported not only the Vietnam Conflict, but the draft as well in 1966, demonstrating at a pro-draft rally while attending Stanford University in 1966. He also showed his support by asking for and receiving three educational deferments and one thirty-one month deferment as a "minister of religion" in France.
In 1994, Mr. Romney said, "It was not my desire to go off and serve in Vietnam, but nor did I take any actions to remove myself from the pool of young men who were eligible for the draft,".
Then in 2007, Mr. Romney said, "I was supportive of my country. I longed in many respects to actually be in Vietnam and be representing our country there, and in some ways it was frustrating not to feel like I was there as part of the troops that were fighting in Vietnam."
This year he said, "Greatness in a people, I believe, is measured by the extent to which they will give themselves to something bigger than themselves."
Which is it?
I believe that "actions speak louder than words" and Mr. Romneys' lack of action speaks quite loudly.
To require a citizen give of themselves in time, effort and possibly life itself, to the society from which they benefited rewards is labeled by some as socialism, and by others as responsible citizenship.
Congratulation to our space program and to those who supported it and made it work.. What a great accomplishment for the good old USA. And the Repugs keep saying we can't accomplish anything and we're falling behind the rest of the World. Well, take that you losers.
OBAMA IN 2012.
Over the weekend in an interview with CNN Romney says:
"I can absolutely make the case that now is the time for something dramatic and it is not to grow government,” he said. “It is the time to create the incentives and the opportunities for entrepreneurs - businesses big and small - to hire more people and that is going to happen.....”
Why is it business ALWAYS needs help from government? What happened to just get government out of the way? Cannot business stand on its own without government help? Isn’t it enough that they get to privatize their profit while socializing their losses?
Robin Hood in Reverse Romney is already planning to take money from the poor and middle classes to give tax cuts to the rich. Now he wants to take even more tax dollars and give a “hand up” to business. In his world those poor, poor businesses are starving.
FREE MARKETS? What free markets???

Wow. Chris. All this time I knew the Dems had no balls. But now I see that at least ONE has a crystal ball. Congrats!
Well said California Tom: I woke up early this morning just to see how if the project was a success. It is a great sense of pride in American scientists, engineers, and workers. Well done NASA.
Joe in Albany-1902257
Two great posts. You are 100% correct - the left despite all of their rhetoric could give two sh!ts about the American people. They developed all of the so-called "safety net" programs which have now developed into multiple ways to provide freebie stuff in exchange for votes.
I believe we need to have the programs so that in the event people do fall on hard times they can be taken care of, but to allow this to continue as a lifestyle i.e. no job but living on government money is not what anybody thought these programs would become. Now Obama and the Dems want to do nothing about scaling back these programs to get our deficit under control but they do and have added another one in the form of Obamacare. We just can't afford all of this when 50% of the public pays nothing into the federal kitty.

Harry Reid says he has it from reliable sources that Romney hasn't paid any taxes in 10 years. Could that possibly be true? Romney tells Reid to "put up or shut up", but Reid won't shut up. He trusts the veracity of his sources

Dr. Ron: I have heard for a very credible source (an old college classmate) with a high level job in the Penn State admin that one of the big reasons for the cover up of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal was that he revealed that his membership sponsor into the North American Man Boy Love Association was Harry Reid. I trust the veracity of my source. Now let Harry Reid prove it’s not true.

Joe: As your old buddy Ronnie Reagan would say, There you go again" making up facts.
President Obama is going to be re-elected! Thank God!
LOL. Yeah, that would explain why the Obama campaign is sweating right now spending their money at a record pace. It also explains the record number of fundraisers put on by the Obama campaign and the desperate rhetoric trying to paint Romney as the devil incarnate. And how about the Administration's use of the Justice Department to squeeze every last vote out of the electorate including illegal aliens, pets and dead people? These are all behaviors of a campaign that knows their candidate "is going to be re-elected".
And if the number of people looking (participation rate) was the same today as it was when Obama took office, the UE rate would be 11%.
Also, July saw a 195,000 drop in the number of people working while we added 45,000 more eligible for unemployment.
BLS figures.
THE MITT MESSAGE: Putting jobs first "his"
Joe: As your old buddy Ronnie Reagan would say, There you go again" making up facts.

Dr. Ron: My facts are equally as valid as Harry Reid's facts. So, you are saying Harry Reid is "making up facts".
I agree.
Hi Ron, great comment.
On the substantiation of Senator Reid's comment:
Has Mitt Romney substantiated HIS claim that -- he "paid every year, a lot of taxes"?
I have some sad news folks. Feisty Dumbfux cannot be with us today. It seems that, at some point on Saturday afternoon, she chased a ball out into the middle of the street, stopped to lick her own behind, and was hit by a car.
Beverly Dumbfux will keep us informed with updates on her condition.

Mitt Romney's birthday is March 12, 1947. He was in the first draft lottery in 1969 and his number was 300.
They drafted people with numbers up to 195 that time so he wouldn't have had a service obligation even if he didn't get a deferrment. FYI my number also in that year was 15 and I got my draft notice in June 1971 after graduation in May thanks to my 2S deferrment which let me finish my college education.
http://www.sss.gov/LOTTER8.HTM
Harry Reid says he has it from reliable sources that Romney hasn't paid any taxes in 10 years. Could that possibly be true?
Ron:
The fact that he made this accusation from the floor of the Senate where he legally can't be held accountable for his comments speaks volumes of it's veracity.
Ron -- I believe you made a mistake. Harry is the one making up facts. How anyone would ever trust Harry is beyond belief.
As Harry said, Romney hasn't presented enough information to obtain Senate confirmation for a cabinet position, let alone being POTUS. Harry has nothing to lose by not releasing his sources. Romney has everything to lose by not releasing his tax returns.
Unfortunately Union Bay, TN, your words about sacrifice and the plight of the average American are lost on people like Joe and the supporters of the GOP.
He and others like him would rather have every American working stiff NEVER retire. They want us to be subservient to the upper class business owners from day one until death. They would rather have us barely eaking out a living with little to no chance of saving enough money that we could retire. Much less to retire in comfort.
The mantra for the GOP supporters is:"I've got mine, so screw you if you don't have yours, because we'll see to it that you never get it".
Romney continues to say that he won't raise taxes on 'the middle'. This is like a con game from the cons. Romney and the GOP want us to focus on their left hand as their right hand picks our pocket. You see, he doesn't have to raise taxes to hurt us and still keep his promise. What he intends to do is to take away as many deductions from the tax base that we need. At the same time he'll decrease the dollar amount of what deductions are left. And that is exactly what his plan is. Technically, he isn't raising taxes, but the results are the same. The middle class gets less and the government gets more. This is the essence of the GOP party. Never give the average American a break. Make them think the GOP cares about them so we don't raise up and revolt against them altogether.
Just as Joe pointed out, he, Romney and all of the GOP/TP folks want the government to rake in money from it's citizens without ever paying out anything or as little as possible. If you are in dire straights and need help, Joe and others like him want to say that you don't deserve it. You shouldn't need help and you need to always stand on your own two feet. If you lose your job; tough. If you can't pay the most basic bills for food/shelter/clothing because the top brass at the company you work for makes 100 times what you make and wont offer a raise (hell, in their world your lucky to have a job and if you complain, you're out of here) or decent benefits, well that's what should be expected. In their world they created and/or run the business so the deserve it. Never mind that without the workers the business would collapse. They'll keep firing people and adding more in other countries around the world who won't ask for a decent wage, working conditions and retirement income. As long as the bottom line looks good and they are earning millions, alls right with the world and anyone who says otherwise is a whinner.
Jody, Iowa and Ron, Indiana:
After spending the weekend thinking about your take on Senator Reid's statement regarding Governor Romney's refusal to release his tax returns, I think you are absolutely correct. You are right, I was wrong. My apologies.
There was never any doubt in my mind that Sen. Reid had been told that Romney did not pay income tax for a number of years. Further, I believe that Sen. Reid has every confidence that his source for that information is accurate. He knows he is right.
Romney has been nailed time after time for his lies, INCLUDING lies about his income tax in the past. To date, he has not released one single complete income tax return. Not one. There is no overriding principle in his refusal. Indeed, he has been more than happy to insist that his past opponents release their tax information, even as he refuses to release his own. There is something so utterly perverse about this, that one must conclude Romney is hiding very damning information.
Even without the returns, at the very least, it is a certainty that he uses very specific special tax treatment that is simply not available to the VAST majority of Americans. It is available only to the very rich only because they have the money to buy special dispensations from a bought-and-paid-for Congress. Anyone who thinks otherwise, in the face of overwhelming evidence, is delusional, willfully ignorant, or just plain stupid. The very wealthy who back Romney's candidacy most assuredly do not want a spotlight on their special tax treatment. The deduction for dressage is an iconic example, and undoubtedly there are some equally and even more egregious examples that we will find if these returns are made public.
We also know with certainty that Romney pays a lower rate than many Americans who do not earn a tiny fraction of what he takes in annually. It is important to note that it takes a stretch of monumental proportion to even suggest that Romney EARNS his money. What he takes from the economy is hijacked capital, which is why he is called - rightly so - a vulture capitalist. A vampire capitalist would be an even more accurate description.
Remaining questions, which are clearly speculation include whether there were years when he paid nothing, whether he stiffed his church on tithing, and whether he has overreached on special tax treatment available only to the very wealthy.
What Senator Reid has done is to clearly illuminate what we already know about Romney. Romney is a liar of monumental proportion and he has forced Republicans into a virtually indefensible position. Even they know he is a liar, and he is not the kind of person who can be trusted to serve anyone's interests but his own.
So, Romney tells Reid to "put up or shut up." Well its time for Romney to put up or shut up and release his tax returns showing that Reid is wrong.
@Joe
That's funny Joe because my reliable source told me that Barack Obama sold his soul to the Devil for the presidency. As usual with such bargains Satan does not make your dreams come true as is seen by the utter failure of his policies.
Now it is up to Barack Obama to come clean and prove he did not sell his soul to the devil.
BTW Congratulations to NASA on an amazing feat of engineering by landing curiosity on Mars. Just be ready for the praise from the President and the dig that you didn't build this.
David Walker: No apology necessary. As Shakepeare would say, "You are a man of parts."
It's people like you with all your lies Fool's Gold that insures President Obama will be reelected. Signed sealed and delivered.
Joe:
I agree with you 100%. I also think that this is a miscalculation on the part of Democrats as they are depressing the very numbers they need to win the election.
Geeze - take a couple of days off & the right wing nuts haul out the heavy duty manure spreader....
Go figure! ;o)
And, yes, I'm looking directly at the idiot from Albany!
Ron,
Who is running for President of the United States, Mitt Romney or Senator Harry Reid?
Releasing tax returns is a time-honored tradition, started a long time ago by Romney's father George, who showed 12 years' worth to the public.
Mr. Romney wants us to trust him, but he won't trust us with his tax returns. Voters have a right to know!
What was in the 23 years of taxes he released to John McCain, but is now concealing?
Chris, Dorr MI, that sums it up nicely!
Backhouse, Ron, great way to start the week.
Romney refuses to make his tax problem go away because he knows his tax returns are more damaging than his refusal to release them. Or at least Mitt thinks that way because he does not understand that he is not "special" in the eyes of the American people--he's running for president and not king. Romney has wealth but is uncomfortable with that wealth either because of how he made it or where he hides it. We have had a number of wealthy presidential candidates and presidents and the wealth did not factor into their candidacy or their election. The problem for Romney is that unlike FDR, LBJ, JFK, Nelson Rockefeller, and others Mitt cannot relate to people because he sees himself as above them. "You people" expresses Mitt and Ann Romney's view of those no like them.
Romney's 59-pt plan, as does Paul Ryan's budget, ads trillions to the deficit and the debt yet Mitt and the GOP beat the deficit and debt as the cause of our economic problems. They shout "Greece" at the top of their lungs ignoring that Greece's biggest problem was tax evasion followed by extreme, forced austerity which exacerbated their financial woes during a global, near depression. Europes problems are caused by government austerity. Beginning in Jan, 2011, the GOPTP House forced austerity on the U.S. by threats of government shutdowns, allowing the Government to nearly default and their efforts to slow the economy are visible: austerity works--at making the economy worse and/or slowing down recovery.
While the deficit and debt are troubling, solving both belongs in the future after our economy gets rolling again. During every economic recession/depression in our history, Government (both GOP and democratic) deficit spending is essential to stopping the bleeding. The GOP is good at messaging, good at convincing people that what is bad for them is good for them. Our debt is a problem to be solved in the future, our economic well-being is a problem for today. Common sense says fixing the economy today allows solving the deficit and the debt in the near future.
Obama's job approval rating is below 50% in 37 states which would seem to indicate not many are being distracted by the side show. Harry Reid stood upon the senate floor and lied. Reid just fabricated another story, and he did it on the senate floor where nothing legally can be done against him. The fact the Democratic Party has rallied around Reid shows that moral and ethical standards have no place with liberals.
Hillary Clinton accused Obama of lying and running a dirty campaign against her in 2008. Now we have a pathetic excuse for a senate leader making up story, and the American people will not be buying in to these ridiculous claims. Fodder, that is what Obama, Reid, and the Democratic Party are providing to the Romney campaign, and they have to be laughing. From Obama saying you didn't build your business, to Feinstein announcing the leaks were coming from the White House, and now Reid lying on the senate floor. Should make for some effective campaign ads.
Read the fine print folks - something the conservative bent have a very hard time grasping. The program was never set up to be a free-lunch program, its founders, and indeed Congress, and reacted over time to fine tune the system to ensure its continued viability. No doubt, further fine tuning is needed to keep it viable. One thing the Albanian will never let out is that total compensation for that couple retiring in 2011 is $913k vs. $717k paid. Read it for yourselves at http://www.urban.org/UploadedPDF/social-security-medicare-benefits-over-lifetime.pdf
speaking of manure and look who shows up. queen dumfux herself. so much for that theory damage. i was thinking It more or less found out what it was like to drink real alcohol and drank itself into oblivion, putting itself into a semi permanent coma. oh well, we have fine libtards here to tell us that Hussein is getting re-elected LOL.
Congratulation to our space program and to those who supported it and made it work.. What a great accomplishment for the good old USA. And the Repugs keep saying we can't accomplish anything and we're falling behind the rest of the World. Well, take that you losers.
Tom & Ron:
I hope that the memory of this accomplishment stays with you for a long time because--in case you haven't been paying attention--President Obama all but killed our space program. He has now outsourced it to the Russians effectively putting some of the smartest people in the country out of work.
California Tom - While the Mars mission was highly successful and hopefully we will be able to gather immense amounts of information from the efforts of our space program, you really need to do some research on when the mission started, when it was planned and when it was implemented... Today we have nothing in the works that even resemble this project. Why? Because NASA has been all but stopped from doing new and wonderful things. The only missions that are occurring are those that were already in progress. 5 years from now we will have but a shadow of the former glory of NASA because this president has taken NASA down to the bare minimums. We will have at least 4 years void of new activity and exploration and possibly longer since it takes time to ramp up a shutdown.
The current administration is extremely shortsighted and frankly has no interest in furthering America's lead in the space program. For goodness sakes, we are offshoring trips to the ISS... Credit for the Mars mission does not go to this administration at all. It was funded and approved during the previous administration.

amen Jody! :)
Just competing with Harry Reid. Can you prove my source wrong?
Yep, the Romney's pay a lot of taxes I'm sure. Every time Ann buys a new Cadillac she pays taxes. Every time they buy new Temple Garments, they pay taxes. Gasoline? Taxes. But what about INCOME Taxes Mr. Romney? Let's see those!
Saturation? What saturation? Here in the the reddest state in the country we aren't seeing all those ads the rest of you are seeing. Oh, we see one now and then, but it's hardly saturation. Besides, we've been fighting prairie fires and temperatures over 100 degrees for the last three weeks. We've got more important things to worry about than campaign ads.
Sikhs are not Muslims. Somebody needs to teach the Neo-Nazi's the difference. The Sikhs are an off-shoot of Hinduism (I believe). The Sikhs I have know are loyal, hard-working, honest and very good people. That such a tragedy should strike their community is beyond belief.
The ignorant are still ranting against changing America's gun laws and as long as they have the floor we will see more and more and more such tragedies. So, perhaps it's important that we remember one other little American factoid........
...... the Japanese quietly remembered the dropping of first atomic bomb on their island nation 67 years ago. We remain the only country to have actually used an atom/nuclear weapon on other human beings. What a sad, sad commentary on us as a people.
C'mon folks, we can do better. We're on the verge of the greatest scientific discovery in the history of humankind. We may answer the question regarding life, past or present, on Mars and that is incredible.
Let's crown that achievement with some inner reflection. Let's work to stop the gun violence and stop the hate rhetoric and build a better world.
Mars could serve as our "canary in the coal-mine" if we'd just pay attention.
Yes, let's all be thankful that our President will be re-elected and give us four more years of good government before we roll the dice once again. And let's try a little harder to get along with one another.
I'm preaching tolerance and acceptance today. Now, somebody pass the collection plate.

i believe it is figurative david, but you being oh so pompous and arrogant, I doubt you would recognize it. But ask Hussein, he went to church, im sure he can explain it to you.
Welcome back Feisty and the rest of the the gang. I'm glad you all had a safe trip.
Legal Shenanigans, T-Bagger and GOP Mendacity, Sheldon Adelson…Ends Up In The US Attorney's Office.
The Justice Department is investigating a major US casino group over money laundering ties to Mexican drug cartels. This is potentially big stuff here, people.
The Justice Department has launched an investigation into whether Las Vegas Sands Corporation and several of its executives violated money-laundering laws, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Citing unnamed lawyers and other people involved in the matter, the newspaper said the probe was being conducted by the US attorney's office in Los Angeles.
Its investigators want to find out how the casino handled money received several years ago from a Mexican businessman later accused of drug trafficking and a former California executive subsequently convicted of taking illegal bribes.
Now let's see, the Sands group, where have I heard that name before?
Yup, wouldn't you know it? It's Sheldon Adelson---> Las Vegas Sands Corp. Sheldon G. Adelson (CEO & Chairman)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Las_Vegas_Sands
Sheldon Adelson the shameless and consummate critical basher of the Obama administration donor of 10 million dollars that he and his wife have contributed to the super Pac supporting Romney, Restore Our Future.
The source of Adelson's huge campaign contributions would appear to create a conflict with Romney's Mormon convictions. The official website of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints states: "The Church opposes gambling in any form, including government-sponsored lotteries."
BTW: The Adelsons are the largest donors to the Romney PAC.
http://campaignstops.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/08/06/embracing-sheldon-adelson/
===============================================
How can Romney justify taking contributions from gamblers who are being investigated for possible violations of bribery of foreign officials i.e. dirty campaign contribution? This looks very similar to Romney's $10,000 blunder bet with Rick Perry!!! Or is it what happens on Vegas stays in Vegas?
Still no taxes! Now is the time, how about releasing those tax returns, Mittens? Even Ed Rollins as well as other Republicans are waiting to see them. Try a little truthfulness instead of being the filthy rich, "Dirty"stinking, LIAR you are.
Another terrible tragedy has touched the hearts of a community and the American people. Again my heart goes all to those injured and killed in the Sikh temple outside of Milwaukee. It's time to get gun control and get after the NRA.

Obama/Biden2012
Democrats need to do two things in the remaining days till the elections:
1. Keep the focus on Romney's tax plan that raises taxes on the middle class and gives the wealthy a tax cut.
2. Spend some money. If you figure that roughly half in the US will support Obama, if we spend money we help the economy. If the economy improves, so does Obama's chances.
hey skip, one of your own beverly in chicago is bearing the torch of tolerance as we speak. See teabaggers as an example.
I can see it now... on Judgement Day, David Walker will be standing there saying "But, but, but, but... I didn't believe in any of this stuff... how can it be happening and what did I do wrong?" Remember David, it's all about the choices we make... I'll make mine and you can make yours... choose wisely.
A Lie Even Fox News Won't Tell
"Mitt the Twit"is at again; lying. Romney posted on Facebook and claimed that President Obama is trying to curtail the voting rights for military voters.
Here's what Romney posted:
President Obama's lawsuit claiming it is unconstitutional for Ohio to allow servicemen and women extended early voting privileges during the state's early voting period is an outrage. The brave men and women of our military make tremendous sacrifices to protect and defend our freedoms, and we should do everything we can to protect their fundamental right to vote. I stand with the fifteen military groups that are defending the rights of military voters, and if I'm entrusted to be the commander-in-chief, I'll work to protect the voting rights of our military, not undermine them.
Not unexpectedly, "Mitt the Twit"is completely misrepresenting the lawsuit.
The Obama camp shot back against Romney's argument:
Obama's campaign blasted Romney for misreading the lawsuit.
"Mitt Romney and his campaign have completely fabricated a claim that the Obama campaign is trying to restrict military voting in Ohio," said Rob Diamond, Obama's veterans and military family vote director. "In fact, the opposite is true: The Obama campaign filed a lawsuit to make sure every Ohioan, including military members and their families, has early voting rights over the last weekend prior to the election."

Steven, Delaware, well said. There are photos of Mitt Romney protesting in support of the Vietnam war; he was perfectly happy with sending others to fight and die while he went to France. Few who were drafted wanted to go to Vietnam and many never returned. Therein lies the difference, most of those who were drafted went despite their views of the war while Romney stood with signs to support a war he had no intention of ever joining. I have never understood veterans or military personnel supporting republicans because all of the VA benefits, the GI bill and other legislation which supports them have been passed and signed into law by democrats. The only reason I can think of for their republican support is the GOP talks a great game on military spending above all else--yet that funding and spending is exactly why we end up in so many unnecessary wars.
David Walker, no apology necessary. We left-leaning folks often agree on many things but we also have different ideas, opinions and debate them.
dumbfux @ 1.34 -- SSDD. Name calling and nothing original to contribute.
the guilty before proven innocent crowd seems to be hanging on to the slanderous miscalculation by Senator Reid. With the confidence Harry is showing in his unnamed source it would seem reasonable for him to go over to his buddies at NBC and say the very same thing. Of course he loses the protection afforded him when he slings slanderous comments on the Senate floor.
Does Harry have what it takes to do this?
Bev said: Sheldon Adelson the shameless and heavily critical basher of the Obama administration donor of 10 million dollars that he and his wife have contributed to the super Pac supporting Romney, Restore Our Future.
Oh Bev... is Sheldon Adelson shameless because he doesn't support your messiah, or is it because the bashing he provides is saddled in truth that you won't accept?
Do tell Bev, how can you support Obama? Are you so blind that you refuse to even admit Obama has plenty of faults, has harmed our economy and simply makes bad decisions to the detriment of our country? You don't care that Obama has squandered $6 trillion of taxpayer money on practically nothing... that he has made such piss poor decisions concerning investment to major corporations that have all gone bankrupt after the government issued their loans that will never be recovered? This says a lot about you and your decisions Bev.

Repuglicons breaking the agreement, who wudda thunk ?????
"MYTH" ROMNEY is a despicable LYING stiff. The media tries to make appear as ambivalent. The real charm would be if the press would go after Mitt the way the Boston Pres did in his bid for governor in 2002.
Here's why Romney will NEVER release his tax forms, and why we need to keep hounding him
You've probably seen this image, or one like it, making the rounds on the Intertoobz:
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f73/blackmax2323/mittdodge.jpg
Clear enough. Mittens is likely guilty of voter fraud, by living in California (or perhaps New Hampshire), owning no property in Massachusetts, yet voting in the 2010 election by claiming he "resided" in his son's unfinished basement. He's denied it, and though I'm not a Massachusetts political junkie and therefore know few details about how he's managed to fend off the charges of voter fraud, he's so far managed to dodge the story almost entirely.
The tax returns, along with showing just how unethically and unpatriotically clever he's been in sheltering his Rmillions from Uncle Sam and the IRS, will also prove that he resided legally in California when he trundled his rich ass back to MA to cast an illegal vote for Scott Brown.
Mittens: one of the very small number of Americans who actually did commit voter fraud. If I'm not mistaken, the form of fraud he committed in Massachusetts is a felony.

1. Republicans and independents need to focus in on the piss poor job Obama has done to run this country.
2. Focus in on the economic conditions and how they are not improving... remind people that democrats want to run this country off the cliff.
3. Remind everyone that this administration has increased our national debt by 1/3 in less than 4 years.
4. Tell everyone that the unemployment rate has been over 8% for over 40 months and zero effort has been accomplished to lower it.
5. Let's not forget the loss of credit rating.
6. Focus in on the attempt of the executive branch to usurp the authority of Congress by fiat through the use of Executive Orders.
7. Don't hesitate to remind all of the tremendous amount of investment money in failed green energy companies... Solyndra leading the pack of about 8 to 10 companies that have gone bankrupt under the watchful eye of Obama.
8. The increasing cost of Gasoline... Remember paying under $2.00 per gallon... well, that was the day before Obama took office... Now we are hedging double that after 4 years of Obama.
9. The list goes on...
Seems to me there's a lot of reasons to not vote for Obama... number one is his failed policies.
The republican effort to buy the election is already in progress. But they aren't really carpet bombing yet. There is still some room for more money to be spent, and it will likely go into local races just before the election.
Romney has said that 99.5% of his money is in American enterprises. What little we know about his ub-American enterprises indicates that his worth is around $6 Billion, yet he only pays taxes on around $250 Million. Show us your tax returns you steaming pile of Mitt.
DCIA - Why should what the Mormon Church says about gambling matter to you? Just because a donor want's to give money to a PAC does that mean Romney invites the guy over for Sunday dinner? I think not. It's not as if Sheldon is giving money directly to Romney's campaign... What is wrong with your thinking... Ohhhh... I get it.. Sheldon is not supporting your hero... so you feel it's OK to obfuscate information to make Romney look bad... seems to me you and Bev have the same line of thinking... Bash Romney even if he has nothing to do with what OTHER people do... makes perfect liberal sense to me.
BrianB -- As a matter of fact ROMNEY did have dinner with Mr. Adelson, he was the guest of honor. Apparently money talks.
Who cares what Plouf did!?!? Anyone who does needs to ask themselves if they are ok that Romney has senior staffers from the Bush Administration and is actively considering hiring Bush budget director as a VP!
Also, where are those TAX RETURNS!!
Hail Caesar!
Beverly, I"m pretty sure, is a Democrat. While I am often in agreement with her on many things, I am not a Democrat, I am an Independent and have always been an Independent.
But while snarking away you missed my point entirely.
We as a nation, need to change the national debate, the national tone. We need to learn to listen, to put down our guns and close down our off-shore military bases and learn to live within our means. We no longer need a huge army or navy and we don't need to be the world's policeman.
We don't need ten guns in every home to be safe.
And we do need to remember our history. Our real history. Not what is taught in public schools in Texas but the real history of the United States and then vow to do better.
Sadly, Romney is not the answer. He is only interested in becoming President of the United States and he will say or do anything to achieve that goal. He doesn't have the solution and things will get markedly worse for us if somehow he is elected.
So why not tone down the rhetoric and give us all a break, huh?
Vini, Vedi, Vici.
Hail and Farewell!
Obama/Biden 2012
Joe did you not understand the point of the article you posted? They said businesses were concerned about uncertainty and political gridlock. It did not say taxes was the cause, that is just one of the many issues they are looking at. They did not say taxes would ruin them, it was the uncertainty of whether the taxes are coming that is making them play it safe since they do not want to be left on the hook.
Your interpretation of the article says it all, and in itself explains the gridlock. You see the word gridlock and instantly put all blame on Democrats assigning none of it to the Republican party. What you effectively ask Democrats to do is abandon their positions and accept yours. Basically, that the Democrat position is wrong. You allow no room for compromise, as the Republican position is right on taxes and nothing else should be considered.
Think of the qualities your post demonstrated, then thick of what environment causes uncertainty and gridlock. Re read the article and maybe you may learn something.
If the two parties could work together businesses would be in a better position, we just need less finger pointers like you at the table so maybe we can get something done.
You see it is simple...
I do NOT vote for someone based on these things:
1. Race (Lets be honest, Obama cleans up in the black community because he is black and no other reason and that is clearly racial voting)
2. Religion (We have a clear separation of church and state)
3. Sound Bites (infotainment does not dictate voting records or history)
4. Opinion Articles (biased propaganda)
5. Infotainment (ad revenue generating cash cows of SHOCKING headlines you just cannot ignore)
6. Wealth (you do not need money for me to review your political voting record)
7. .....and most of all I do not vote for anyone based on newsviner's mostly poor and biased opinions.
.
.
With that said I do vote people based for these things:
1. Voting Record
The partisan rhetoric and ad revenue infotainment has brainwashed many minds in America.
United we stand and divided we fall... from the looks of these political threads, and especially this one, America is falling on its face with divisive rhetoric debating cronyism vs. socialism.
I ask all of you to shake your neighbors hand and eat with him.... Work in your community to make it better with your communities people. Innovate new ideas with your co-worker regardless of your personal beliefs. STAND UNITED!
For we are ALL Americans... the Blacks, Whites, Yellows, Browns, of all religions, of all mankind.
America is the home of the FREE and LAND of the BRAVE. It is about time we all asked what we can do for our country and each one of us pulls our own weight.
In closing, we are ALL Americans. Start acting and VOTING like one.
Akeem -- You are spot on. Joe and others don't understand the meaning of gridlock. Great post.

So you have, in one line, determined that Romney is only interested in becoming President of the United States and will say or do anything to achieve that goal... hmmmm... you give no motivation other than he wants it. What a solid sense of reasoning... You don't even know the man and you are stating he wants the position strictly because of.... greed? desire? What? State your opinion as to why he wants it... you certainly have no backing for any of his motivations because from what I read in your posts, you only regurgitate what other liberals are saying.
You honestly feel that Obama, in a second term, will act better than in his first term? What's to hold Obama back from implementing the full power of his agenda in his second term. You have so totally ignored his real agenda from day one... you and other liberals have not only ignored it, you support it in full force and hope it comes to pass. What does fundamental transformation mean to you? What about fundamental transformation is confusing? Ponder the words and grasp their full meaning. It's not rocket science...
Thanks, Dont carry it all.
It amazes me everytime. I thought the article was quite clear...
Oh for God's sake; the LIFE EXPECTANCY RATE INCREASED!!! What the hell did you think would happen after that??? And by the way, the ratio will probably balance itself out after the Baby Boomer generation goes away.
Jesus Christ; that was because the U.S. MUCH younger than it was in the 1930s and 40s. Now, with increased living standards, more people who are older are living. And by the way, benefits have not risen significantly in a long while thanks to stagnant middle class wages.
For God's sake; the ONLY thing we have to do is raise the payroll tax by around 2 percentage points and eliminate the freaking payroll cap!!!! That is the freaking answer!!!
Hell; I'll be very grateful for SS benefits when I retire; at least I can expect some income coming my way to help pay the bills.
Ha! And your idiot Tea Party bastards in Congress simply obstructed everything the Democrats came up with, leading to gridlock and an economic slowdown.
Considering what we faced before Obama was president (along with job numbers and the stock market), I'd say we've improved significantly. And by the way, technically the REPUBLICANS want to run this country off the cliff; considering the fact that the House won't take up the Senate bill to extend the Bush tax cuts for people making below $250,000. I'd say raise taxes on everyone and let the cliff happen; maybe it will shut up deficit hawks like you.
And how most of that was from the REPUBLICAN RECESSION; not to mention the fact that the "great Republican leader" Ronald Reagan tripled the debt while Bush 43 doubled it.
Down from a peak of 10.2% and would be 7.2% had we not fired thousands of public workers.
Thanks to the unreasonable and uncompromising GOP, who put the nation's fiscal and economic health (along with that of the world) just so they could keep tax cuts for the wealthy and gut the social safety net for everyone else.
Maybe if your buddies hadn't @!$%#ed things up in Congress, we wouldn't need so many executive orders.
And yet America is on the way to building a reliable source of energy and a prosperous industry.
Let's not remember how gas reached over $4 in the summer of 2008. And by the way, the increase in gas prices shows that demand for gas is exceeding supply, meaning that the economy (run by consumer demand, not the "job creators") is improving.
And yet the Republicans can't even sell them to the American people, since they know better.
If Obama's policies had failed, we would still be in a recession; last time I checked, GDP EXPANDED last quarter. And by the way, do you really think that Romney's Social Darwinist policies will make things better??? If you do, you might as well go back to the Bush years...

I don't need help David. I'm doing just fine. We'll see who gets the last word on the subject. I have no fears... I sleep well at night. Like I said, it's the choices we make... has nothing to do with illusions, hallucinations, trickery, or any such liberal fantasy.

freshieee said: Considering what we faced before Obama was president (along with job numbers and the stock market), I'd say we've improved significantly.
The stock market is an illusion. It can fail/fall in less than 24 hours so when you consider that, we are less than a day away from a financial meltdown. Didn't consider that, did you?
What we faced before Obama was president is courtesy of democratic policies... So while you think you are putting republicans down and raising the height of the platform on democrats... I'd say you'd better think again. Obama faced his own troubles but tried blaming them on everyone else. I'd have to say that Obama is the most complainingist president in my lifetime, and I've been around since Eisenhower.
Freshieee continued but clarity was never reached: If Obama's policies had failed, we would still be in a recession; last time I checked, GDP EXPANDED last quarter. And by the way, do you really think that Romney's Social Darwinist policies will make things better??? If you do, you might as well go back to the Bush years...
I'd take the Bush years over what I am facing under Obama. In fact I'll take the Bush years prior to 2007 when the democrats took over congress. I had a good paying job, no financial worries, the industry I love so much was doing well... and then WHAM!!! 17 months after the democrats took over we fell off the cliff. The most laughable part is how the democrats tried blaming the republicans for it. They still try... like little children caught in a lie, their handprints are still all over this economy. Liberals deny it... and bless their little hearts... accept no responsibility for anything.
I have voted since Carter and I would agree...
Brianb-999431
Really, so when the GOP voted every year during Bush's Presidency to raise the debt ceiling, that was a democratic policy? When BUSH took us into an illegal war (one that we could not pay for), his 'axis of evil' was a democratic policy? The 11 Trillion Dollar Debt inherited by Obama was all because of democratic policies? The GOP tax credit for corporations that move jobs to other countries is a democratic policy?
Its amazing to me the sounds an ostrich makes when it sticks it's head in the sand.
Obama had the PERFECT storm left to him. Its not something that can be cleaned up in 3.5 years and with an obstructionist GOP in Congress as well. However, we all know the GOP is more concerned about "telling women what they can and cannot do with their bodies, who I am going to marry, ensuring religious beliefs are higher than secular law, and supporting ROMNEYCARE" than fixing the economy.
We could end the controversy about Romney's taxes quickly if he would only release them. If he did pay taxes than that leaves Harry Reid with egg on his face. If he paid taxes but at a much lower percentage than most middle class Americans that will not set well with the middle class but done soon enough it could blow over. If he continues to refuse to release his tax returns the speculation can only hurt him and people will imagine all sorts of things. If he has nothing to hide or there is nothing that the middle class or Democrats could complain about what harm could there be in releasing the tax returns. However if he paid no taxes or at a ridiculously low rate, or revelation of some of his business deals and investments would be embarrassing so he won't. What a mess.
It's about time. Ranting over the same old crap over and over again does not mean I will agree with you about your and other liberal opinions of what Bush did. You did NOT understand what I was talking about and here you go ranting on about Bush.... with the same old tired, worn out misconceptions that liberals always try to promote. You people are just stuck on stupid and running in a circle.
That perfect storm you speak of was the housing bubble and the banking crisis... It wasn't republican policies that caused those industries to crash and burn, it was democratic policies... provable to the core... but liberals STILL try to blame republicans.... I guess liberals can't stand it when the democrats are proven wrong in their choices. Your sensitive little egos get bruised, tisk, tisk, tisk.
Obama himself, was a part of formulating that perfect storm... and yet he chose to ignore it while blaming republicans...
And I'm not a republican... so don't go and try saying that I'm partisan.
The liberals are only fooling themselves. They don't fool me and a whole country is waking up to your BS and lies... A country you aren't familiar with because you think we need fundamental change into your new world order.
Your lies about Romney aren't taking or resonating either. Obama sure is hurting lately... He's dying a death by a thousand cuts... and should be pretty much finished by November. It's fun to watch.
Brianb-999431

Dems took over Congress in January 2007 so please show me what did Dems changed that caused the financial meltdown of 2008?

P.S. I'm not partisan, but every comment I see always blames the liberals and democrats for my problems. :) <-- Advice from the TeaParty (its not our responsibility to "HELP" you in anyway, if your life has problems, figure it out. We are not required to pay for your mistakes".
Caesar Augustus has yellow fever!!!
T-baggers get it because they are a bunch of lying cowards just like the filthy rich "DIRTY "liar; Mitt Romney.
And if the number of people looking (participation rate) was the same today as it was when Obama took office, the UE rate would be 11%.
Also, July saw a 195,000 drop in the number of people working while we added 45,000 more to the eligible rolls for unemployment.
BLS figures.
I didn't; but the reason WHY the stock market can collapse is because of ECONOMIC DATA; if the economy improves, the stock market goes up, and vice versa. Didn't think I already knew that, did you???
That is bull@!$%# and you know it, Brian. Deregulation is a CONSERVATIVE principle that was only adopted by Democrats because the GOP had the majority in the 90s. Deregulation of the banks caused the @!$%#ing crisis, not to mention the fact that people were often bamboozled into accepting loans that they could not pay off. The banks took those mortgages (rated AAA by the damn credit agencies) and sold them to every institution on the map, spreading the crisis. And the conservative economic policies of the past 30 years has led to stagnant middle class wages while the cost of living rose, forcing many households to rely on debt rather than savings to make up the difference for things like healthcare (which you oppose reforming), higher education, and housing. Maybe if your party would stop catering to the rich and return to the center, we wouldn't have this slow recovery.
Are you kidding me??? The Bush economy was a SHAM. The only reason why it seemed good was because of the damn housing bubble. After that popped, we saw the real economy. We haven't recovered from the dot-com bubble of the early 2000s; the bubble lifted us beyond where we should have gone and when it popped, we went back to 2003. Now we gotta have a REAL recovery, not another bubble. And do you really think that a recession the size of the @!$%#ing Great Depression can be caused in 2 years???? Are you that stupid??? 30 years of conservative economics is what screwed this economy; deregulation, anti-unionism, tax cuts for the damn rich, and income inequality screwed this economy. And who was in charge for most of those years???? REPUBLICANS. Clinton could have reversed it, had he not been blindsided by the GOP in '94 and then forced to the center. Only left wing policies (the policies of FDR and Harry Truman) will get us out of this rut; that means universal healthcare, government spending, financial regulation, and a more progressive tax system. You want to blame someone for losing your jobs???? Blame those bastards on Wall Street and Capitol Hill for ripping you off. The conservatives, or at least the leading ones, don't care about you; they sold you, me, everyone, and this great nation to the highest bidder. Understand that, and you will know the truth.

Most of what's going on right now is 'political fluff', since most people are more interested in the Olympics than politics.
The race starts in earnest right after the conventions - that's when people start paying attention and things will 'settle in place' and we'll get a clearer picture of what's going on.
I suspect that when the Republican Convention ends, and Romney has a chance to 'identify himself' to the public that he will get a big lift. In contrast, most people already know what Obama's about - big government and big deficit spending.
Talk to the Hand "And if the number of people looking (participation rate) was the same today as it was when Obama took office, the UE rate would be 11%."
Very true. And I have to laugh when people claim that there have been '4 million jobs added since Obama took office'.
According to the official government Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are still more than 1 million FEWER people working than when Obama took office - here are the official preliminary figures;
Number of jobs for December 2008 (last official numbers when Obama took office) = 134,379,000.
Number of jobs in July 2012 (includes July estimate) = 133,302,000.
That means that there are about 1,080,000 fewer people working now than when Obama took office. In addition, there are an estimated 5 million net new workers in the workforce because of population growth - only to find few jobs available.
No matter how they try to 'spin' the news - Obama has been a huge FAILURE on the economy and jobs.
That's open to debate, Plinger. What's not open to debate is that Obama has nothing, or rather has done nothing for four years to improve the country's sorry economic condition. And that's what it's all about; in the words of a prominent Dem, "It's the economy, stupid!"
Joe in Albany-1902257
True enough. But it's not what you think. Yes, CEOs are cancelling reinvestment because of the threat of "normal" taxes. The tax rates now are the lowest they've ever been. These low tax rates at the top actually provide INCENTIVE for CEOs to give themselves huge paydays and pull money out of their business that would otherwise go towards reinvestment. The good thing is that this is an indication that the big wigs think Obama will be elected. The bad news is that it is causing them to take money out while the taking's good... which is now.
And EVERYONE is holding back... businesses and consumers. The economy will stay flat until after the election and will bump up slightly and continue to grow slow no matter who gets elected. The only real choice we have is whether or not we restore the middle class or continue to incent the rich to pull big paydays destined for the Cayman Islands.
ROY WILSON-336103
so Roy, you are ignoring the fact that we lost 2.6 million jobs in 2008 alone?
so Roy, you are ignoring the fact that we lost another 2 million jobs between Jan and March of 2009?
Are you going to tell me that the 2 million jobs were lost because of Obama just because he was the president or was it happening regardless of the fact that President Obama took office?
bayllie "ROY WILSON-336103 "so Roy, you are ignoring the fact that we lost 2.6 million jobs in 2008 alone?"
Those job loses were included in the total number of jobs for December 2008 - before Obama took office.
As for what happened after Obama took office - Obama said 'Elect me - I have the solutions'. So when do you start holding Obama responsible - never?
bayllie
Hey bud. It's not worth the argument. He's like some CFO's I've dealt with that don't bother to try to drag out the truth from raw numbers... except, of course, when it's convenient. Tagging Bush for the fall to bottom is what he calls spin while most reasonable people understand that not only should Obama not be penalized for the fall in the numbers, he deserves credit for stopping it sooner than it would have. In other words, a case could be made that he saved millions of more jobs and decades more of depression by stopping the free fall handed him.
Like I said... don't bother... take the report from the CFO, say thanks, and send him on his way. It works every time.
LMarcT
I hear ya but maybe someday, Roy will explain his fuzzy math.
ROY WILSON-336103
your numbers would mean anything if Obama didn't get the biggest piece of $hit for economy.
hey, if Obama was only as lucky as Bush was to inherit Clinton's economy, we could talk about holding him responsible.
Hey Roy, please cite ONE economist that would agree with you that it should take less than 3.5 years to recover from what we went through 2008 and on...and don't quote any Faux News "economists" either!
Romney's problem --- he has NO backbone, NO spine, No passion. Romney is what the people he's speaking to at the time want him to be. He far/against everything depending on the time of day and where he is. He's the biggest phony to run for president I've ever seen and I remember Ike in 1952. The American people are seeing this reality more and more with each passing day. It's reached the point where even Rasmussen has him trailing President Obama.

Mitt Romney snagged the highly desired endorsement Thursday from the award-winning actress Jenna Jameson whose honors include “Best Couples Sex Scene,” “Best All-Girl Sex Scene” and “Favorite Adult Actress.”
Will we see campaign appearances with Jenna alongside Mitt?
Maybe, we'll see Jenna with Romney's horse!
Bachouse, That's the best post you have ever made ! I think I will actually vote you up on this one !!
Sorry Dennis. The most famous presidential endorsement EVER was in 2004, when Osama bin Laden endorsed John Kerry. That was hilarious!!!
If he did I guarantee it would be a full house, particularly if it was held in Vegas.
I love Jenna's statement, "if you're rich you want a republican in the white house". To bad the rich are the minority. Their only hope is to keep their uneducated and economically depressed supporters believing their lies and voting for Romney. Do these uneducated, economically depressed people not realize it's the republicans that are keeping them this way? The parts of the country that are poor and economically depressed are republican strong holds. The parts of the country that are wealthy and have a booming economy are Democratic strong holds. That's a fact the Conservative republicans will try to dispute to keep their economical depressed constituents down. Sad thing is most of them will buy it again.

Well, he couldn't endorse BUSH any longer, it was already apparent that they were in the oil business together.
The most famous presidential endorsement (in recent years), is McCain and the GOP picking PALIN over Romney. Think about that for a minute. :).
Obama/Biden 2012.
Beverly - maybe Jenna's endorsement will come from the casino floor of the "Sand's" and she will have the Adelson's standing right next to her! haha, now that is funny folks, don't care who you are or where you come from!
Sadly, this is Mormon lip service to the victims killed in this senseless murder to cover their glee as they add them to the role call sheets for future members in their rather disgusting practice of 'dunking the dead'. On the bright-side for the Mormon Church, I hear they have plenty of idle dunking volunteers these days, now that they have cleared the backlog from the Indonesian Tsunami and the hundreds of thousands civilian Iraqi's killed as we liberated them from tyranny.
hey RedDev when did you become LDS spokesman? you do realize your head is up your azz right? I dont care for the LDS church or any for that matter but they dont wish ill on other people. Thats what libtards do.
Harry Reid is a child molester, Harry Reid is a serial goat fuc&er, Harry Reid is a chronic masterbater, and here's a fact, Harry Reid is a liar. The only problem is, I was not on the Senate floor so I can be charged with slander. This is the leader of the Senate disgracing the whole institution trying to help a pathetic President. How sad.
I'm waiting for the gun nuts to start yammering that the bloodshed in the Sikh temple could have been avoided if only the worshipers were packing guns. whatever you want to call the Obama administration
Caesar Augustus-
I didn't call the Obama administration anything. But you seem OK with my implication that Romney is close to classic fascism: government by the corporations, of the corporations, and for the corporations.
Ceasar -- The only ones I see trying to CONTROL people are REPUBLICANS. BTW -- Get a dictionary.

Corporations have been making record-breaking profits since Obama prevented the Bush Recession from turning into the Bush Depression. The poverty continues to trickle down as the wealth continues to trickle up, thanks to the Republican obstructionists Obama has had to deal with.

you know muslims are notorious for storing caches of ak's in mosques. sounds like you are the one whining about it trying to make some anti gun point. let me know how that works out
Caesar Augustus-
And gun nuts are notorious for their neo-nazi tendencies and for going bonkers and shooting up Sikh temples. Aren't sweeping generalizations fun?
BTW: You seem to be avoiding the point I was making, so I'll ask you straight out: Do you think everyone should go to churches with their guns that they can take out a deranged gunman if one shows up during services?
Ha; Romney couldn't run a high school club; instead of collecting dues, he'd give everyone free money just to join!
Hell, community organizers are essentially the unions for the suburbs; people who seek to defend the community from the externalities that capitalism places on them. I'd rather have a people-person community organizer than a corporate fat cat whose first plan is to cut taxes for the wealthy and shove the bill down everybody else's throat!!
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
Red Dev. I'm going to side with Caesar Augustus on his comment about the LDS church. I don't believe anyone is happy with the killing of the people at the Sikh temple in Wisconsin. It is too bad that a Neo-Nazi was able to have the fire power to do that. In a free country we pay a price for our 2nd Amendment rights.
And, while Obama is no more a Communist than Romney is a Fascist people sometimes get carried away trying to get a rise out of their opponents or get them riled. There would be no fun in being nice to one another so while I disagree with Caesar Agustus on most everything he writes I will agree that your saying the the LDS enjoyed the killing is just out of line.
Adler-273784
The price paid in Tucson last year, and in Aurora and Wisconsin this year is WAY too high. But Second Amendment rights for legitimate gun owners who want them for hunting or self-defense don't need to be sacrificed in exchange for sane laws that prevent weapons intended only to kill large numbers of people quickly from falling into the hands of deranged gunmen or Mexican drug lords. It's not a zero-sum proposition, except for the gun manufacturers. It would cut into their profits substantially if criminals were prevented from buying guns and ammunition necessary for them to satisfy their murderous proclivities.
@Alder - opposing my mockery of the LDS Church is a fine point to debate, and I will openly admit I have a strong disdain for that holiest of holy institutions. While most argue religion should not be taken into consideration when selecting a presidential candidate, I take exception to that case when it comes to Mormonism. This site clearly outlines the position of the LDS religion in obtaining dominant roles in government. A few of the more interesting quotes include are posted below. Simply google "Mormon political agenda" for some eye popping information on the subject. For more on the inner workings of the Mormons, google the Mormon mafia.
Houston, I fully agree. Unfortunately even if we could somehow control the sale and possession of military style weapons someone is bound to get them. The Neo-Nazis, for example would have sources. Although I scored well on the rifle range in military training I don't like guns and don't own one. That doesn't mean no one else should have a fire arm. Most folks are responsible and handle firearms properly. Unfortunately a few nuts get the same rights as sane, responsible people have and they shoot up cinemas, blow up federal buildings in Oklahoma, and open fire in a place of worship. All here in a land where we have a right to worship or not as we please and where firearms are allowed under the Supreme Law of the Land, the Constitution.
geo What is it with the right's fascination with Harry Reid? They talk about Harry Reid, man-sex, now animal-sex and masturbation all in the same sentence. This has been going on now for 4 days. You righties sure are some twisted folks if thats all your can think of and post about. With all this talk you would think you that you guys would be right behind gay marriage.
But Smitty, I have a reliable source!

No matter how many laws are in place and how well they're enforced, someone will find a way to get around them. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't have laws against drunk driving just because many people, unfortunately, drive while drunk (or drive while texting, for that matter). Stricter laws about the kinds of guns and ammunition clips and how many guns an individual can purchase in one shopping trip won't eliminate these mass shootings, but they certainly would make them less common. Really, this is the second one in less than a month in this country. That's insane.
One thing about Jenna Jameson, she certainly understands "trickle down" economics. Sometimes twice in the same scene!
"She's got it bad, got it bad, got it bad, hot for Rombot!"
"She's got it baaad, so bad, hot for ROMBOT!"
Little does Jenna realize,
Rombot.Has.Nothing.
I think the "trickle down" got diverted to the Cayman Islands... new name for Romney economics would be "trickle out", but "trickle" doesn't quite say it... how about "suck out economics"? Yea, that works.
Just heard an interesting item. Gov Rick Scott of Florida is scheduled to speak at their little circle jerk in Tampa. Why don't they all just put on clown noses and clown shoes?
Saturation Point. Negative ads in particular wear very thin, very quickly. Nothing wrong with running campaign ads but I have seen the same Romney SuperPAC negative, attack ad run a half dozen times in an hour, then add Romney's own campaign ads to his SuperPAC ones and it is saturation point very quickly. In my area of Iowa, President Obama also runs ads but not a half dozen times an hour coupled with outside group ads. That's the difference I see so far. A saturation dump by Romney's SuperPACs are actually hurting Romney's own ad buys, in my view.
The Trouble with Mitt. Lindsay Graham called Harry Reid a "liar". RNC Chair Reince Priebus called Reid a "dirty liar". Graham and Priebus know Reid is a liar because, because.....Mitt says so....trust him. Trust the man who has millions stashed in the Cayman Islands, Bermuda, Switzerland to avoid paying taxes. Doesn't matter if it is legal, it raises a moral question about Mitt's character. Let us just say that this is classic pot meet kettle with Graham and Priebus being the pots and Mitt the kettle.
Mitt Romney, the GOP presidential candidate, the person is a whopper of a lie. Mitt, the "well oiled weather-vane" never met a position he did not take as his own. The trouble for Graham, Priebus and other Mitt-defenders is that they are stuck with a presidential candidate who flips his finger at them right along with the rest of the American "you people". If Harry Reid's source is wrong, Mitt Romney can prove it by releasing his tax returns. The very fact that Mitt refuses and finger points speaks volumes. No one cares how much money Romney has any more than we care how much Warren Buffett has but Buffett keeps his money in the USA.
What is Mitt Romney hiding?
Good Morning Jody: Looks like we are on the same page again today. Great post.
.
I suppose we will never find out, Jody. Queen Ann has spoken: (Paraphrasing) "you people know all you need to know.
"
Good points Jody, Mitt could clear up this controversey quite easily, however, he refuses to do so and the longer he does this the more suspect he looks to the working/middle class voter. You are right, I don't care how much money another person has, it is not going to change my life on bit, however, I do prefer folks act honestly and pay their fair share in taxes - I pay mine, every single one of them, and pay them on time - why can't folks who make about 100 or more times what I make do that?
Harry Reid is just being his dirty ol' self because he wants to help Hussein win. You see, Harry likes Hussein because he "doesn't speak with a Negro dialect".
Harry Reid is not running for President of the United States. However, Willard Romney is. He asked us to trust him, and take his word for it concerning his taxes.
Can it be that Willard Romney is hiding something and we the American People are giving him the job interview in which he better start answering questions.
Yes, Harry get's on the Senate floor to say "the word's out that Mitt Romney has not paid taxes ....." yadda, yadda, yadda ad nauseam. Of course, the Harry is the one "putting out those words". I think it is time for Harry to prove it ..... put up or shut up ! But Harry will be Obama's stooge along with Botox Nancy.
Together, Harry, Bo and Squirrelly are the "new" Three Stooges . Our country is $16 trillion in debt with NO BUDGET, NO PLAN, and NO CLUE from this administration how to get this fiscal calamity under control !!!
Americans spend more on deodorant or dog food than is spent on political campaigns...
If First Read's point is that voters will tune out TV ads at some point of saturation, that is valid..Obama's massive negative TV ad campaign doesnt seem to be working well; only if you take a poll oversampling Democrats....
If First Read is trying to lobby for more government regulation of elections, then it is shilling for repeal of the First Amendment...then it would officially become 'state run media'...
Virgil Goode in Virginia is cutting into Willard's numbers.
hey Jobless, Hussein said trust me too. of course you love him cause you 'gets some of that Obama money from his stash'.
Jody, We've seen this movie before with Romney, when he finally:
Finally revealed that ACTUALLY HE DID NOT FILE HIS TAX RETURNS IN MASSACHESETTS, as well as Utah - prior to applying for the job as governor in MA.
Of course, he resided in Utah and filed his taxes there. But back then, Romney and his campaign lied and lied until deciding to finally reveal the truth.
Surely this is Romney's plan here....keep it going and reveal at the eleventh hour? What then?
Harry Reid has proven once again that there is no place for moral or ethical standards in the Democratic Party. To stand upon the senate floor and make up a lie is pathetic. For the rest of the Democratic Party to stand by Reid's side proves there is nothing they will not do or say to stay in power. Even lie on the senate floor.
Hillary Clinton accused Obama of lying and dirty politics in the 2008 campaign, and now with no record to run on Chicago style street thugs politics kicks into high gear. Obama's poll numbers are plunging, and Romney is keeping his cool and staying on message. From Chick-fil-A, to you didn't build your business, to the leaks came from the White House, to Harry Reid's lie, nothing but fodder for the Romney campaign and they have to be laughing.
I do not know what Romney will do as President.
I do know what Obama will do and what he done.
Thats all I need to vote for Romney.
Romney will raise taxes on the middle class and give tax cuts to the wealthy. If you support that, then vote for Romney.
Obama has always been for the middle class, and did very well with the hand he was dealt given the Republicans total obstruction of his agenda. Imagine how much further along in the recovery we would be without the Republican's obstructionism.
If Romney's campaign has to be laughing Rick, then why are they so sad. I see Rick you're another one of those uninformed liar Limbaugh and lying Fox lemmings that believe every lie they tell you.
You see Rick the conservative republicans are the pioneers of lies and made up stories. You guys can sure put the lies out, but you can't take it when it's turned on you. I think it's hilarious how you conservative republicans whine and cry like babies your own words are turned on you.
Looks as if I hit a GOPTP nerve this morning. Notice how they try to change the subject from Romney's taxes to President Obama. Sorry GOPers, you also should be asking "what are you hiding, Mitt Romney?" After all, Mitt belongs to GOPers; he is "your guy"; one would think you would want to know you didn't pick a dud before the convention.
"Well, it wasn't meant to be a factual statement" Jon Kyle
Republican obstruction: In 400 days the republicans have created exactly 0 jobs but have passed bills that would kill 7.4 million jobs. All in the name of social engineering.
When the republicans were in power they passed a law that give tax cuts to companies that export American jobs overseas. Then filibustered the Democrats when they tried to repeal that stinking pile of Mitt. Twice!
How very patriotic of the party of no.
Funny how the Democrats are all screaming for tax returns when they are not required by law. So because Obama needs to deflect from his record he should provide them? Or because Harry Reid tells a lie on the senate floor he should provide them? Obama has spent millions in legal fee's sealing everything from his past, what do you suppose he is hiding? Romney is staying on message, and we can all see that that Democrats don't think that is playing fair. If only Obama had a record to run on, he would.
"What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" is a popular ad slogan splashed across the country. Well, rumor has it Romney was in Vegas this weekend, but apparently, someone from his campaign needs to explain to him that the slogan doesn't apply to tax returns and Cayman Island hidden accounts.
Speaking of Las Vegas, rumor also has it that Biden was in Vegas this past weekend addressing various liberal groups that assembled there over the weekend, including Disabled American Veterans. While Biden was speaking to large audiences on the Vegas strip, poor Romney was stuck in a furniture warehouse in North Las Vegas where he offered furniture glue sniffs for free as a way to keep his audience pacified during his "hastily planned 15-minute speech". Seems Romney was in a 'rush' to get to Adelson and Trump for a cash infusion to his poorly funded campaign.

Hey media people,
I don't give a rat's rear end about Romney's tax returns or Obama's golf game...
When are we going to talk about REAL Issues????
The country awaits...
Negative ads SUCK!!
I'd rather repeal the First Amendment and see America COLLAPSE instead of having the wealthiest Americans decide who gets elected and what happens in Washington.
Funny how Republicans demanded Obama's birth certificate to be publicly disclosed, even though that is not required by law.
No, he doesn't have to release his tax returns; but if he wants to be considered as a serious candidate with at least some integrity, he'd release them, just like every other president has done (including his own father). Or do you think Mitt Romney is bigger and better than those presidents???
Hahahaha; got any proof, mate??? And I mean real proof, not some right-wing bull@!$%#.
Hahahaha; if by staying on message you mean calling on Americans to give more in taxes so that their wealthy overlords will decide to create jobs and give prosperity to everyone, then yes, he is staying on message.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
Jody:
You must also trust Mitt because he was caught lying about his state tax returns when he was running for governor. He claimed he was paying Massachusetts state taxes while he was in Utah "saving" the Olympics, but when the truth came out that he had actually been paying Utah state taxes because they are lower than MA taxes, he was forced to "retroactively" pay Massachusetts taxes so he would qualify to run for governor there. And if you need more recent evidence to trust Mitt, you can trust him because he's been caught lying about the Obama campaign trying to stop military service members from voting in Ohio.
Oh, there just SO many more reasons like those to trust Mitt, I just can't see why anyone would think that he'd worm his way out of paying income taxes for ten years if his high-powered accountants figured out a way to do it by hiding money in foreign bank accounts or the many legal loopholes that the lobbyists for the super wealthy have managed to lard the tax code with since the New Deal.
Rick....doesn't say much about the republicans either when they stand on the senate floor and the house and ask for birth certificates, and stating for the record that don't know if Obama is a foreigner or not, born here. Also remember a republican disrespecting the president during the state of the union. Neither party is lily white and pure. Republicans play dirty often and relish it, sort of the pot calling the kettle black. You reap what you sow.
JackieK, independent...... I also remember Barack Obama disrespecting the Supreme Court over one of their decisions while Obama was making his State of the Union address. Which came first ? You might be right ..... Obama may have reaped what he sowed.
jim-1455434
Try using a dictionary so you know what the words mean you type on your keyboard. Disrespecting is NOT the same as disagreeing, which Obama correctly did with the radical Roberts court's Citizens United abomination that enabled shady characters like Sheldon Adelson to help Romney buy the White House. Obama didn't call any Supreme Court justices names like that moron Wilson who shouted at the president. The Sergeant at Arms should have given him the bum's rush out of the chamber for disrupting the president's speech.
Thoughts and prayers to the victims of that senseless shooting in Wisconsin. :-(
Absolutely, Frank. When will we come to our senses?
Truly Sad!
I know a few Sihks. Very hard-working people. In fact, when I was at the Capitol for Reagan's funeral, there were HUNDREDS of them there. Another sickening slaughter.
Agreed, Grimey, though I tend to find the words "senseless shooting" kind of redundant. What I find sad - besides the killings themselves, of course - is that at least three different news reports I've heard in the last 12 hours or so all say something along the lines of "Sikhs are not Muslim but many Americans do not know the difference" - the implication almost being that if it had been Muslims who were killed instead of Sikhs, it would somehow have made more sense. What's really senseless is the hatred that is so deep that it makes anyone even think of doing something like this in the first place.
Spot on Grimey!
Seems you can't go to your house of worship or watch a movie these days in the good old US of A without the fear of being gunned down like a animal!
Nice... eh?
There is an NRA/GOP/TP response for that .. seems we should all leave the house with the baby strapped to the back, the diaper bag over one shoulder, and an AK-47 slung over the other shoulder. That will make America safe!! Seems the NRA/GOP/TP like want to emulate those photographs we constantly see from 3rd world countries where everyone is joyously living life, laughing, joking, ribbing, and exchanging pleasantries while either staring down the barrel of an assault rifle, or having one cocked and aimed and stuck in the your back. Good Times, I tell ya, Good Times.
Nice retarded statement there RedDev. Care to cite where the NRA or GOP have stated that is there stance. Good luck. go back to licking Fisty's taint.
*waves to Red*
Did you make your 4:00... *ahem* "T-Time"?? ;o)
Thanks again for the lift!
Perhaps Michelle Bachmann will cease and desist with her hate speak now. One can only hope. Words are powerful, Michelle. Time to keep your mouth shut.
Tell us, Diane. Just what the hell does Bachmann have to do with the Sikh shooting?
what does Bachmann have to do with it? Both sides are guilty of using rhetoric similar to war. Battle ground states, targets, etc. Neo Nazi's hate everyone that arent indoctrinated into their thinking..same with the KKK and same with Democrats and Repubs. Libtards are the worse though.
Grimey, well said. Thoughts and prayers to the families of the victims and the citizens of Wisconsin.
Caesar A, for starters, it is Michele Bachmann who launched unwarranted allegations against people whose religion is not like hers, against "other". Bachmann is the GOP's latest version of Joe McCarthy spewing hate to instill fear in the paranoid. Bachmann, herself, is a paranoid wack-a-do and she belongs to the GOPTP.
dont all polititians do that? look at Reid and the 10 years of no taxes about Romney? It is Bachmann's opinion, nothing more, nothing less. again its irrelevant and has nothing to do the shooting. By the way, wasnt the shooter a Neo Nazi. They hate everyone except the Nazi agenda. look it up
With just under an hour to spare, I managed to hit the links .. er, um, well, you know!!
Cesar, I guess the difference is, when lefty/liberal terrorists are finished their careers, they move to Chicago, get jobs as tenured professors, and become friends with future Democrat presidents.
While Bachmann had no direct impact on the Wisconsin shootings she does have a voice that is heard by many. People with that kind of voice can incite weak minded individuals to do bad things. As long as those hate mongers continue to say what they do they can take some amount, albeit small and indirect, of blame for what happened.
So Adler, you are trying to blame Michelle Bachman for the actions of an individual ? Seriously ?? Do you think it might be wise to wait and see what facts come out ???
It seems like you guys tried this same bs when Gabby Giffords was shot only to have no substance to back up your fantasies. Then, there was an early brain cramp by ABC when the gunman in Colorado was mis-identified.
The only thing I see as "weak minded" is your post.
"All of a sudden, there has been VP buzz surrounding House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI). Much of this is coming from conservatives who are still trying to get excited about Romney’s candidacy"
You know, maybe it's just me.....but getting excited about your candidate doesn't seem like something you should have to TRY to do very hard - if at all. Either you're excited, or you're not. After all this time, this sort of feels like the music guy at the baseball game trying to rally the fans with that "CHARGE!" number when the home team is down 13-2 in the botton of the eighth and they're 15 games out of playoff contention. Only the die hards are still playing along. Half of the rest of the crowd is already heading for the exits and muttering "Yeah, well wait till next year"......
if only it is true! oh please!
Extremely well said, JoAnne in PA !
Obama's poll numbers are plunging. The Obama job approval is below 50% in 37 states today, and there will be more tomorrow. The side show tactics are simply not working as Romney is staying on message and Obama has no record to run on. Anyone that thinks the Republican party will not fully endorse and support Romney is a complete idiot and Harry Reid can probably make up a story you will believe. Hype will not elect Obama this time around, and so far he has been unable to run from his record. Enthusiasm for Obama is waning. Wait until they have to pay people to attend the Democratic National Convention, where a theme song of Send in the Clowns will be fitting.
Of course, the obvious question is, if Obama is so fantastic, and Romney is so horrible, why the hell isn't Obama crushing Romney in the polls?
Answer; because the people who think Hussein is doing a GREAT job are full of s**t.
Evidently you didn't see last weeks polls Ricky. President Obama over 50% in Oh, Fl, and Pa beating Romney by double digits in most swing states.
Me thinks you've got the paper you're reading upside down Rick. Nah you're just making things up again aren't you Ricky.
Damage President Obama is crushing Romney in the polls.
Got to love those that believe some the skewed polls released last week. One that showed Obama up didn't even provide a breakdown of the polling data, maybe they just had Harry Reid to make it up for them. The others were heavily skewed to Democrats, they just keep increasing the skew until they could report the 50% threshold. What you have to love, is that liberals are gullible enough to believe fabricated poll numbers that even the media moved to the back page almost immediately.
JoAnne PA, terrific post.
Rick, you must have read those polls backwards. It is Romney's numbers that are plunging, unless of course, you're referring to his ever-climbing disapproval number!
Right Jody, like the time when Carter was polling up by 8 points just before the election and lost by 10? Oh but this will be different, these skewed polls are going to be accurate this time. You just keep believing that, and it will be a long painful election day.
And yet ..who is excited about voting for the massive failure Obama?
Please. Please. Please. Pick Paul Ryan for VP. He's the poster-child for a failed party. Almost as good as Palin for VP.
Where are your tax returns Romney? What are you hiding?
Thanks for writing this Steven. Thanks for your service.
If Romney were serious about "longing to be in Vietnam" he could have enlisted. He didn't.
Enough said.
Steven Thanks for your service, my brother also was at Great Lakes. However that being said I don't believe military service is a prerequisite for political office. I don't believe our current President served either and Joe Biden had 5 deferments during the Vietnam war. At least be fair in your judgement.
Steven: It's always good to see your posts. I also wish to thank you for your service.
ksw- Biden himself had FIVE? Wow. Amazing that none of the people here have mentioned that when they daily go off on Romney or Cheney.
Romney manned up in 1970 and registered for the draft after his missonary work was completed in France. He drew #202. The highest number drawn was #195. Hardly a draft dodger.
Steven, thanks for your service!
Willard, on the other hand, supported the war in Viet Nam as he avoided service by hiding out in France!
ksw62118 -
I don't believe that having served in the military is necessarily a prerequisite for holding political office either. What I find troubling is Romney's later statement that "I longed in many respects to actually be in Vietnam and be representing our country there, and in some ways it was frustrating not to feel like I was there as part of the troops that were fighting in Vietnam."
If he really wanted to serve that badly, he didn't have to wait to be drafted - he could have volunteered. Sounds like classic Romney revisionist history to me.
And just how many people back in that era do you know that volunteered?
i do not care if a canidate has served in the military. what i want to ascertain is how will he serve this country in the white house. hows their diplomacy, their character, their integrity, their understanding, their caring and their image of creating the future of this country of mine.
do they believe in the america we all believe in, do they believe in helping all to keep a balance in our country, do they believe in a strong public education system, do they believe in justice for all and do they believe in peace, because war is no place for anyone.and can they show it for actions speak louder than words!
mr romney has proven that he loves money and will do anything to make it, anything, and it all stops there. money and hatred are the two things which flow from his mouth and not just hatred for the president, but hatred for the questions he wont answer, hatred for a system which helps those in need, hatred for the demands of the working class, hatred for laws which make companies responsible citizens protecting our air, water, health care system, housing, and work safety.
president obamas action speaks louder than words, and although he is far from perfect he has shown us his heart, a heart which beats strong for america and the american people. unfortunately i have not seen that heart in mr romney or in the republicans in congress.
government is not about product or profit, it is about the safty and welfare of its people, not just certain peoples, not just corporations, but all its people all the time.
mr romney and the republican party are failing that test. his party has had daily opportunities to step up for the american people, as americans themselves, but they have chossen to say no, no, no, time after time. where do their hearts lie, or why do their hearts lie?
two beating hearts, president obamas' lives in this world. mr romney's heart lives in his own world. the president of the united states is referred to as the father of our country. i'll take obama because there's nothing worst than a bully for a father.
Actually, I do know one. Served with distinction in the Marines and voluntarily went back for a second tour.
I love the revisionist history charge coming from a Democratic Party supporter, who rallies around a pathetic Senate leader that stands on the floor and tells a lie. While Obama runs from his record, Romney stays on message. When the Democrats tell lies and make up stories, Romney stays on message. With Obama's job approval below 50% in 37 states, and still plunging, desperation is setting into the Democratic Party. The Obama campaign will orchestrate a do anything or say anything strategy to stay in power, even lie on the senate floor. No moral or ethical standards getting in the way of the Obama campaign, but plenty of fodder for Romney.
Talk To the Hand -
You're right, I don't know anyone who volunteered. Nobody in their right mind really WANTED to go there. Some, like the one JulieB mentions above, went anyway because they loved their country and/or believed in the mission or wanted to help their fellow soldiers already there. Both of my brothers lucked out with high draft numbers as well. But I've never once heard either one of them trying to embellish their imaginary credentials years later by saying that they had "longed" to go to Vietnam but had been "frustrated" by their supposed inability to do so.
I have the utmost respect for those who served in Vietnam. But I have nothing but disgust for those who, now that they're safely free of any call to duty, suddenly pretend they really "longed" to be there, but were somehow prevented from doing so. I can't think of a greater insult to those who did serve.
ksw62118
Romney was eligable for the draft in 1965 when he turned 18. He got his first deferment then.
I was not talking about Biden.
Our President was too young to be drafted.
I was talking about serving one's country. Our President did as a community organizer, Romney did what, again?
@ Steven I do believe the President was of age during other conflicts so not buying it. Old Joe got a deferment every year he was in college during Vietnam so I do think you are being a bit biased if you call out one side versus the other.
LOL I wouldn't call community organizing a "great" service to our country. Have you looked at Chicago news lately?
Let me summerize for you Sir.
Mitt Romney is an elitist coward who was raised to believe that he is better than common people. He believes only lower and middle class citizens fight the wars of their country.
His (5) sons who between them haven't given one day of service to this country are a clear indication of where he stands on this issue.
I have one son who just returned from his 1st tour in Afghanistan. He enlisted because he felt the need to do his part when so many others have given so much for this country.
I trully do not understand how anyone could in clear conscience can vote for Mitt Romney.
ksw ... the President turned 51 this weekend which means he was born in 1961 - you do the math. From what I've read, he registered for the draft but by the time he was of age, in 1979, his service wasn't needed. But if you want to go head to head on the date, Romney was 18 and should have gone, the President was 4.
Uh Layton I wasn't talking about him serving in Viet Nam. I was talking about conflicts he could have served in after he turned 18, ever hear of Grenada. You do know all young men between the age of 18 and 25 have to register and you can be denied student financial aid if you fail to do so. You can also be denied federal employment. Military service doesn't require you to be drafted, you can volunteer.
Steven, Delaware, excellent post. Thank you for your service.
I find it disturbing that the GOP is quick to defend Romney's lack of military service (he has 5 sons who could have fought in Afghanistan and/or Iraq), yet the GOP was equally quick to defame those like Max Clelland and John Kerry who did service and did so honorably.
While military service is not a requirement to be president and on the surface I do not care whether Romney did or didn't, what troubles me about Romney is that he has even flip flopped on this. First he protested in support of the war (as long as it wasn't him going), then sought a deferrment to go to France rather than fight in the war he supported; claimed at one time that he did not want to go to Vietnam then later claimed he "longed" to go to Vietnam. As in everything else, which is it Mitt?
The Mormon faith is the only religion in this country which is allowed to opt out of military service during times of war and use "missionary" work as an excuse. In our modern all volunteer mililtary, it no longer matters beyond principle. Catholics, baptists, presbyterians, methodists, and all the others were/are not given the same religious exemption Mormons are--maybe it's time that changes, on principle.
@p*ssed......you think Romney "manned up" when he registered for the draft? How old are you? I graduated in 1979 and by law we were all required to haul our butts down to the post office and register
Grenada, do you really want to go there ksw? Romney could have volunteered for Vietnam but he didn't so your point is that President Obama could have volunteered for Grenada, Reagan's trumped up fiasco of an effort to fight "communists" in the southern hemisphere after his disasterous mis-steps in the middle east?
@ Jody point is still lost on you. There have been other conflicts since Viet Nam our current President could have volunteered for. I said before I don't believe it is a requirement for politicians to serve however those on the right seem to think it is but only for politicans who aren't Democrats. Dems get a pass.
I know of at least 5 people who volunteered - for the Navy or Air Force. If you had a low number and the hand writing was on the wall - take control and volunteer for duty behind the lines on an air base or at sea during a land war.
ksw, I think the point is lost on YOU. Mitt has been the one flipping around on the whole issue ... NOT the President. I'm not going to repost everything that has been said about this but I do hope you understand that military service is NOT a requirement for becoming President. Romney MADE it an issue. Deal with it.
Jody,
I think the Amish and Quakers are also exempt.
Then again, he was at law school, and he might have opposed the wars in Grenada.
Yes, but I don't see any evidence of Obama marching in rallies supporting the Vietnam War or any successive war. I do remember seeing evidence of Romney doing that, but then he got deferments and chickened out because he could talk the talk, but couldn't walk the walk. I don't think military service is a requirement for the presidency, but if you want to be aggressive on foreign policy and send our troops to some godforsaken country just to take their resources and spread our influence under the cover of "democracy" (which cannot be spread via bombs and bullets), then you should have some service in combat to know how it feels like for those soldiers that you're shipping overseas, at least in my book.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
The newest research from Nate has it as:
On Friday
“Obama chance of winning 70.2% Romney 29.8%”
Today
“Obama chance of winning 72.4% Romney 27.6%”
Nate must have listened to story from Harry Reid, which began once upon a time...
Rick is grabbing for straws, which is normal for a conservative republican.
Right, polls had Carter up by 8 points right before the election and he lost by 10. Democrats have been skewing the polls for decades.
You are both right. Romney will win the popular vote, and Obama will win the election. A 70,000 vote Romney win in Indiana and a 15,000 vote loss in Ohio will give Romney a +55,000 in the popular vote and Obama a +9 in the electoral vote. If the election were held today, based on state polling, the undecideds would have to break around 5:1 for Romney for a close win. Even Dick Morris looks at 2:1 as being very favorable. We still have the conventions, the debates, the Republican VP candidate, and plenty of chances for gaffes that can change things, but for right now, Obama is in the driver's seat.
So, apparently President Obama genuinely does not like Mr. Romney...
www.politico.com/politico44/2012/08/new-politico-ebook-obama-genuinely-disdains-romney-131131.html
I guess Mr. Romney has that effect on his political opponents. Ask Mr. Gingrich or Mr. Santorum...it was pretty clear watching the primaries that neither of them liked Mr. Romney.
Romney has that effect on people in general. No body likes Romney. Not even the people that support him like him.
I would rather sit down and have a beer with Obama, but likability is not the most important thing in picking a lawyer, surgeon, or president.
Maybe because most vets want Obama out for reason that I hope all but obvious. If they are not, I suggest you talk to other vets. With that said, let's really look at what your saying here and these two candidates as young men. It not uncommon for young Mormons to go overseas for missionary work and study. You would point the finger indictment a fellow American for executing a right you say you fought for?? The point becomes moot. Why? Romney manned up in 1970 and registered for the draft after his missonary work was completed in France. He drew #202. The highest number drawn was #195. Hardly a draft dodger.
What was Obama doing as a young man at that age? Did he join our military? His Grand Father was ex-military. He felt no need to carry on the tradition? No, he travelled to Madrasah's in Karachi Pakistan, Hyderabad in India this most muslim city in India established in 1591 by the mulsim Mohgal leader Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, as well as the muslim country on the planet Idonesia.
So, we have one guy who manned up for his country and the other who went on a world tour getting in touch with his muslim roots. But, how does a kid smokin fatty's on Waikiki get enough cash for a world tour? If your taking that many drugs, your selling them as well.
Obama belong to a gang called the "Chume" gang. Who did indeed sell drugs to tourist.
Now, who would you vote for as a Vet?
Sorry, you are wrong. The Mormon "Church" was very pro war, so strange since they consider themselves to be holier than the most holy. THEY were bothered about young men using "missionary work" as an escape and finally started to limit those that could do so.
Your President was seven years old at the time of that war, and you ought to be ashamed for the lies you posted.
I feel your hate. Never said anything about the Mormon church. Read my post again,
Obama admitted himself that he took drugs in mass on Waikiki,
Where are the lies?
p*ssed off
Nothing more, than more craziness and hate coming from the extreme right wing. Sad, Very Sad.
Obama - Biden 2012
How do you see Romney as manning up for his country? He DIDN'T serve one day in the military.
President Obama may not have served in the military, but tens of thousands of patriotic upstanding Americans never have. There are also thousands of CEo's/COO's/CFO's and other high ranking corporate executives who have never worked a single day outside of the realm of management. Since they don't have first hand knowledge of what its like to be something other than a manager, does that mean that should never tell an employee how to do their job?
If I'm not mistaken, the draft was abolished in the early or mid 1970's, so Obama never had to register for the draft. So what's your point?
More craziness and hate from the right? Harry Reid stands on the senate floor and tells a lie. The rest of the Democratic Party rallies to his side. Talk about a party with absolutely no moral or ethical standards. The Obama campaign will do or say anything to stay in power, even have the leader of the senate stand up and tell a lie. But while Obama tries to run from his record with sideshow tactics, Romney stays on message.
@ p*ssed off Are you a Vet?
My husband served 25 years in the Navy
and I served beside him (Navy Wife) the whole time.
WE are voting for Obama.
Obama 2012
Post 9.2: But I DID say something about the Mormon Church. That was their stance on Vietnam. Hypocrites all. Mitty was a rich man's son. Toward the end of that war, that was how you got out of it.
And, your President was about 7 years old. Did you think HE was going to be drafted?
Like I always say...scratch a "teabagger," find a bigot.
Rick
Does the term 'swift boaters' ring a bell? The repubs put the stain of doubt on each and every medal awarded to vets who served in Vietnam. They questioned if Kerry was deserving of his medal even though others came to his defense and said he did deserve it.
Repubs wrote the book on 'absolutely no moral or ethical standards'. And it started with Karl Rove. Ever since GWB began his run for president, politics has become a quagmire of lies and innuendo. It has polarized the parties and shut down any attempt at 'compromise'. Thank you so much Karl Rove. You have killed the greatest democracy on earth.
We are another week closer to getting a better leader in the White House. Romney will have alot of work to do. But I think his proven record of working in a bipartisan manner will help clean up the mess of the Obama administration. A big thanks to Clint Eastwood for his wise support of Gov. Romney. VOTE FOR A BETTER AMERICA! ROMNEY 2012!
Clint Eastwood? I've heard that name before...hey, I remember! Wasn't he the guy who became persona non grata to the GOP after that Super Bowl ad for Chrysler?
Who is the world would VOTE FOR a man WHO STASHES HIS LARGE PERSONAL FORTUNE OFFSHORE IN THE CAYMAN ISLANDS, DOES HIS BUSINESS THROUGH THE TAX HAVEN OF BERMUDA...AND...HAS A SWISS BANK ACCOUNT ???
THIS is what you want to lead the United States ?? A man who HIDES HIS ASSETS, won't release his TAX RETURNS TO SUPPORT HIS "I PAY TAXES" TALKING POINTS??
What a terrible sense of political candidate pedigree you have....
Why do you insult America this way ??
Iheard, We need a man in office who has actually ran a business. Somone who has the respect of other business leaders. A side benifit is Romney has proven he can work with both sides of the isle. We tried hiring an inexpirenced leader and it hasnt worked. We can hope for mchange or we can hire some one whose proven they can deliver change. Personally I don't care what Romney did with his money. I'm more concerned with what happens to mine. Let's get a leader who can bring confidence back in America. Romney 2012!
So, Clint Eastwood, the former Republican mayor of Carmel, CA. who supported Republican John McCain in 2008, is now supporting Republican Mitt Romney? Why, I'm just stunned.
"Eastwood was far more open about his own politics. Having started voting for GOP presidential contenders in 1952 with Dwight Eisenhower, Eastwood said he was tempted to break ranks only once — in 1992, for Ross Perot. “I liked him,” Eastwood said. “I guess because I like rebels.”
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/movies/2011/11/clint-eastwood-talks-politics-whos-the-one-democrat-that-he-voted-for.html
Of course, it looks as if old Dirty Harry - much like Romney - subscribes to the theory that "when the times get tough, the tough start flip-flopping", since here's what he said several months ago, from the same article:
"When it comes to the current crop of Republican presidential candidates, if Eastwood is enthusiastic about anyone, it’s Herman Cain. “I love Cain’s story,” he says. “He’s a guy who came from nowhere and did well, obviously against heavy odds. He’s a doer and a straight-talker, which I don’t see enough of from either party.”
He’s not as bullish on Mitt Romney. As a film icon, Eastwood has been fiercely protective of his image, but he’s not especially enamored by that attitude in a politician. When Eastwood was in Massachusetts in 2002, filming “Mystic River,” Romney was running for governor there. “I saw a lot of him and you have to admit — he looks like a president,” Eastwood recalled with a tone that you’d have to describe as being slyly sarcastic. “I mean, if you were casting a movie where you needed someone to play president, you’d definitely pick him.”
So, there's that "enthusiasm gap" thing again. Herman Cain was a "doer" and a "straight talker". But Mitt's all we've got left. Oh, well - at least he LOOKS presidential.....
The newest research from Nate has it as:
On Friday
“Obama chance of winning 70.2% Romney 29.8%”
Today
“Obama chance of winning 72.4% Romney 27.6%”
Business men serving as U.S. Presidents have not proven to be successful. The two worst Presidents in history Herbert Hoover and W bush, the business men proved that. Remember, anyone can be a business man.
In Willard's case he didn't create jobs in the United States, but instead wealth for a few.
So, that sad, The United States will stick with the tested and proven President Obama 2012.
No matter how the liberal media tries to spin Obama, common sense will win out. America is hungry for a better president. If you give Obama 4 more years what will change? Will he magically become pro-business and createe jobs?, Will he magicallybe able to work with congress? Will he magically stop creating entitlement recipients? In 2008 you could get elected by "hoping for change". In 2010 America voted for change and in 2012 we will vote for it again. ROMNEY 2012!
If Obama had a record to run on, he would. With the sideshow tactics failing, now Obama sends Harry Reid to the senate floor to tell a lie. No moral or ethical standards left in the Democratic Party, just a do anything or say anything strategy to stay in power. Even lie on the senate floor. If the Romney campaign had a wish list of fodder to use against Obama, it just wouldn't have been as good as what they are being handed. From Obama claiming you didn't build your business, to Feinstein saying the leaks came from the White House, to Harry Reid lying on the senate floor, it just doesn't get any better. But you have to laugh at Nate's predictions, obviously he listened to a story from Harry Reid.
I don't think you're quite as confident as you try to appear Ricky. You know as well as everyone else that Romney is tanking in the polls the last couple weeks. The more America knows about Romney the less they like him.
UAW Pleeeeeeeease
When will you do some research and "magically" understand that the entire world is in an economic funk brought on by the Romneys of this world.
What change other than NO and a bunch of new names for post offices?
So, Romney tells Reid to "put up or shut up." Well its time for Romney to put up or shut up and release his tax returns showing that Reid is wrong.
I got a phone call the other night from a person who works very closely with Harry Reid who told me that Harry has been beating his wife for the last 10 years.
The rumers out there and now it is up to Harry Reid to prove he is not a wife beater.
Of course your claim isn't true, sonmanvb. But if you feel it is....have you asked Mr. Reid about it? Most Americans including Faux Snooze and other right wingers repeatedly have asked Mr. Romney to supply his tax returns....like every other presidential candidate has supplied in the past. He COULD just put it behind him....or not. It's his choice; I for one, cannot wait to hear WHY he's afraid to do what everyone has done. But then....he doesn't have a history of speaking to the media or answering questions, so....we may never know what he's hiding.
ROMNEY IS A CROOK. He made all his money gutting the pension funds of the American workers and outsourcing American jobs overseas then he had the audacity NOT PAY ANY INCOME TAXES FOR OVER A DECADE. ROMNEY IS A CROOK. I figured it would take the GOP at least another generation before they nominated another CROOK so soon after NIXON, but I was wrong. THE GOP NOMINATED A CROOK AGAIN.
Lord I hope we never know what he is hiding. Right now he is hiding from questions and he is hiding answers.
Obama/Biden 2012 - Keeping America's failure moving FORWARD
WOW, how creepy can obama get?
Hotair: Obama campaign mobile app reveals which of your neighbors are registered Dems
Just when you thought the Obama campaign couldn’t get any weirder, along comes its latest high-tech gift. Meet the Obama for America app for iPhone, a tool that allows you to spy on your neighbors to determine which of them are naughty (read: not Obama supporters) and which are nice. What you do with that information is entirely up to you.
The website ProPublica explains how the app works. The end-user types in his current location. The app returns a Google map of the area that flags households with one or more registered Democrats. Clicking on one of the blue flags reveals the first name, last initial, age, and gender of Democratic voters who live there. Not creepy at all.
ProPublica’s Lois Beckett notes that this information is publicly available and that canvassers for political campaigns have long had access to it. The question is why Obama for America thinks the average man on the street should have it at his fingertips.
An Obama spokesman is quoted as saying:
"The campaign is strongly committed to ensuring the safety and privacy of the public and follows up with appropriate action, including alerting appropriate authorities if necessary, in any case of abuse or inappropriate behavior. Any voter who requests not to be contacted again is immediately removed from any provided to volunteers."
The assurances about “safety and privacy” might be easier to swallow if the campaign hadn’t previously come out with other online gems, including:
•its AttackWatch website;
•an online form where “Texans who have experienced Gov. Rick Perry’s failed policies firsthand” could rat him out;
•a Truth Team website;
•a variation on the above theme “outing” Romney donors.
Careful readers will recall that the Obama campaign’s efforts to get voters in other voters’ faces predates his presidency, finding expression in then-candidate 2008 Obama’s “Neighbor to Neighbor” campaign.
Why won't Romney reveal his tax returns??
Why does Romney Offshore his assets??
Why does Romney use TAX HAVENS ??
WHY DOES ROMNEY AND HIS CAMPAIGN LIE ALL THE TIME??
Wake up dude, you are being played for a fool....
Talk about fools. . .
Obama/Biden 2012 - Keeping America's failure moving FORWARD
If you're an incumbent president with a good record, there is no need to get into the mud.
Obama has spent over $100 Million running the most dirtiest campaign in modern times. Dogs on cars, High School Pranks, Car Elevators, People's horses, Felonies, and tax evasion.
He has painted the most honest, successful, and honorable man who has ever ran for the office of the President as the Anti- Christ.
And for what? Because he cannot compete in a fair, honest, and cordial debate on the issues? Bring us all into the mud with him?
Obama does do this country or the once office of the President proud.
He needs to go,
More dressage horses for Annie, more money to the CAYMAN ISLANDS for Willard....
Yeah, just what we need....ROMNEY, THE KING OF THE ONE PERCENTERS....Maybe MITTENS WILL MOVE THE US SEAT OF GOVERNMENT TO BERMUDA in order to be closer to his money...
This isn't Romney's first step into public office, p*ssed off.
Also, keep in mind that he outspent his GOP rivals sometimes, 7 to 1. And that he's outspending Obama now. With that in mind....ask yourself 'Why is he always in second place'? Could it be, because he had nothing of substance to offer the American people? Could it be that actually, not even republicans really like him...they just have to vote against Obama...but he's not a well liked person.
Romney finds himself where he's at, because of his deep deep pockets, and because repub's have spent 3 1/2 years making our economy into crap. It's not that anyone truely likes HIM though. No one knows him....even Mr. Romney, himself.
Ok, name the Republican policies and how as a mechanism they led to the financial melt-down.
Starting two unfunded wars based on known lies that dragged on for over a decade because the failed to capture or kill Osama Bin Laden while giving tax breaks to the wealthiest just like Romney wants to do now. Romney wants war with Iran and Syria and he wants to give tax breaks to the richest 1%. Same exact policies as W. Bush. W. Bush and Romney-- Same exact blue blood ultra pampered up-bringing, same exact private all-boys school education, same exact pedigree and work experience as governor and businessman, same exact failed policy advisers whispering the exact same lies in his ear. Do we really want Dan Senor and the rest of the NEO-CONs advising our President again after such horrible failure? The Bush failed policies are the Romney failed policies, lock, stock and barrel. If you liked the failures of W. Bush then you'll love romney's failed policies too. Bush is Romney is Bush
How does undunded wars and Bin Laden have an impact on Fannie and Freddie home loans? Here is a hint: They don't. Now, name the Bush policies that led to the Fanancial melt-down.
Consider this:
2001: +1.3% (9/11) (Deficit as % GDP)
2002: -1.5% (invasion of Afghanistan)
2003: -3.5% (invasion of Iraq)
2004: -3.6% (Bush tax cuts)
2005: -2.6% DEFICIT REDUCTION (Hurricane Katrina)
2006: -1.9% DEFICIT REDUCTION (Democrats win elections)
2007: -1.2% DEFICIT REDUCTION (democrats assume power/write budget)
2008: -3.2% deficit triples
2009: -9.9% deficit triples again (worst deficit in 65 years)
2010: - 9.5% (second worst deficit in 65 years)
*Note - Federal income also increased in EVERY year between the tax cuts and the first Pelosi budget.
SOURCE : US Government statistical Abstract (Table 469)
Simple: deregulation of the financial industry led to the creation of cheap and unreliable mortgages (aka subprime), which were then broken up and sold to numerous other financial institutions (Lehman Brothers, Goldman Sachs, etc) as "AAA securities," ironically rated by the same credit agencies that downgraded the U.S. credit rating. This spread the danger to other countries, while many others had housing bubbles that developed. When the bubble burst and the housing market crashed, the financial industry was dragged into the hole, along with the rest of the global economy. Supply-side economics (aka tax cuts for the wealthy) and pro-business, anti-labor policies of the previous 30 years weakened the power of private sector unions and led to massive income inequality, and eventually middle class wages began to stagnate.
With wages barely increasing and the cost of living rising, families had low savings rates (some of which had small savings to begin with thanks in part to the loss of fiscally prudent traditions over the development of the Baby Boomers, no offense intended) and began to rely on credit to purchase necessities and pay for things like housing, healthcare, and higher education. With average household debt and corporate debt rising (thanks to lax fiscal and regulatory policy), it only became a matter of time when house of cards would fall. That came in 2007 when the housing bubble burst and families faced foreclosure or saw the value of their houses fall below that of their mortgages, restricting consumer spending and leading to lackluster demand, which is a major reason of our slow economic recovery.
They didn't have an effect on the housing market; they did however cause huge deficits which restricted the government's ability to use stimulus to beat off the recession. And I already named the Bush policies above.
First of all, 2005-07 was not technically deficit reduction; the only reason why the deficit fell was because of the peaking of the housing bubble, which artificially grew the economy during the Bush years and led to higher tax revenues. Secondly, you fail to realize that the deficits starting from 2008 increased because of the RECESSION, not the Democratic Congress, as revenues fell and spending increased when millions became unemployed. And FWI, the recession was caused by conservative policies, not the Democratic Congress. Thirdly, when you said that revenues always increased between the Bush tax cuts and 2007, that was only in absolute numbers; as a share of GDP, revenues were lower than average for most of that time (proving that tax cuts lower revenues), with a peak in 2007. And technically, the only reason why the economy (and revenues) grew under Bush was because of the housing bubble, which artificially increased the economy.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
The Baby Boomer Bubble has been on the radar for years, and it kept getting kicked down the road. We knew we were going to have deficits and large numbers of people retiring.
It's here.
But the repubs want to blame Obama for the Baby Boomer Bubble having finally arrived. When they point to deficits it's like they never heard of Baby Boomers. These Baby Boomers who are the children of the Greatest Generation. The Greatest Generation who fought World Wars and came back to build up our great nation by hard work and sacrifice. Unfortunately, the Greatest Generation also spawned the self absorbed Baby Boomers who want to throw away what their parents built for them and future generations. Their parents recognized that we need a large and vibrant middle class to drive the economy. But the Baby Boomers are the 'what's in it for me' generation and don't care about future generations. Just look at the difference between George Romney and Mitt Romney - a gaping hole you could steer an aircraft carrier through. George wasn't good enough, and Mitt has miles to go to become good enough.
Still laughing at that one. Nice joke!
Of course your brain-washing would see that way, your programming is complete.
The way that R-money and GOP lie, yes, yes we are saturated with their adds. Save your money GOP, you lose.
Obama/Biden 2012 - Keeping America's failure moving FORWARD

Abound solar
A 123 systems
First Solar

If Obama was working in the private sector he would be fired.
Now, you know what to do in November
And everything Apple has done has been a HUGE success. NOT!
From an Edison biography:
Before Edison could make his millions, every one of these elements had to be invented and then, through careful trial and error, developed into practical, reproducible components. The first public demonstration of the Thomas Edison's incandescent lighting system was in December 1879, when the Menlo Park laboratory complex was electrically lighted. Edison spent the next several years creating the electric industry.

Do you expect all investments will produce a payback? If you invest small your payback will be small to negligible. You have to invest big to get big paybacks. And when the feds invest thay are not in it for the payback, they are in it to help develop the 'next big thing' that can be used by private industry to drive the economy. The feds don't get patents - private industry does.
Demorats - The original party of Hate!
Mitt Romney:
After going to both Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School simultaneously, he passed the Michigan bar, but never worked as an attorney.
As a venture-capitalist, Romney's first major business deal involved investing in a start-up office supply company with one store in Massachusetts that sold office supplies. That company, called Staples, now has over 2,000 stores and employs over 90,000 people.
Romney or his company Bain Capital (using what became known as the "Bain Way") would go on to perform the same kinds of business miracles again and again, with companies like Domino's, Sealy, Brookstone, Weather Channel, Burger King, Warner Music Group, Dollarama, Home Depot Supply, and many others.
Got your calculators handy? Let's recap.
Volunteer campaign worker for his dad's gubernatorial campaign 1 year.
Unpaid intern in Governor's office 8 years.
Mormon missionary in Paris 2 years.
Unpaid bishop and state president for his church 10 years.
No salary as president of the Olympics 3 years.
No salary as MA governor 4 years.
That's a grand total of 28 years of unpaid service to his country, his community and his church. Why? Because that's the kind of man Mitt Romney is!
And in 2011 Mitt Romney gave over $4 million to charity, almost 19% of his income....Obama gave 1%
Joe Biden gave $300 or .0013%
This is real character vs....well you know what!
Romney may not be the best representative the Republicans could have selected. At least I know what religion he is, and that he won't desecrate the flag, bow down to foreign powers, or squander my money on vacations. I know he has the ability to turn this financial debacle that the "Spending President" has gotten us into. We didn't know that when Obama said he'd give us change, he meant nickels and dimes, and he would get the big bucks. We won't like all the things necessary to recover from this debt, but someone with Romney's background can do it.
But, on the minus side, He never was a "Community Organizer", never took drugs or smoked pot. Never got drunk. Did not associate with communists or terrorists. Nor did he attend a church whose pastor called for God to damn the US.
@ nazarite: That would be somewhat believable....if more than just rich white men, were invited to your tent lol.
Also...do you consider a republican calling a democrat a liar...a sign of hatred, or not?
Hey, Hey - Not if it is the truth that he is a liar.
So....why did Mr. Wilson apologize to Mr. Obama, then?
Ask Mr. Wilson.
Congressman Joe Wilson apologized for his breach of decorum, not his comment. Mr. Wilson apoligized because Dennis asked him to, and Martha made him.
I can see it now... on Judgement Day, David Walker will be standing there saying "But, but, but, but... I didn't believe in any of this stuff... how can it be happening and what did I do wrong?" Remember David, it's all about the choices we make... I'll make mine and you can make yours... choose wisely.
Barack and Micheele - 20 years of racist and hate training at the academy of Jeremiah.
So Obama went back in time to be taught by the "racist" Prophet Jeremiah??? Damn, I guess you can remove the name "nazarite" from your account!!!
This is why I DVR. Record...fast forward...windbags eliminated. Lol
I don't think American can take more "Hope and Change."
Why do Chicago style Demorats hate Christians and Jews?
Why do you refuse to take your medicines?
Why do Karl Rove style Republicans hate poor people and economic fairness???
why? (this is a joke, right?)
ROMNEY THE CROOK. Have to say that nobody's, and I do mean nobody's, tax returns are an embarrassment for them unless you are a TAX CHEATER like ROMNEY is.
IRS does seem to think so. Why? A Church Bishop does not pay taxes.
G-9, Now you have said it, move on. If he is a crook why isn't the law after him?
Yes the do you MORON! Mormon church "bishops" do not become tax-exempt because someone up the chain of command told them they were now a bishop.
G-9 U R LOSE R
Being a tax cheater doesn't always mean you break the law; it can mean when you take advantage of unfair loopholes in the system to pay next to nothing after all this country did for you and helped you succeed.
Have you seen those greedy American Olympic athletes in London. The ones that won medals? THEY DIDN'T DO THAT. They had teachers and roads and bridges and the government doing it for them. They should be taxed as much as possible on the value of those medals. They are just greedy and unappreciative and got lucky. That's all.
ROMNEY/MANDATE 2012
Just like Willard Romney said, "they didn't do it alone". You must be coming to your senses again Jerry.
The value of those medals isn't what you think. The "gold" medal is 99% sterling silver, clad in about 1% gold plating. Value = approximately $325.00. Silver and bronze far less. And you are right that "they didn't do that without help." Every one of them has coaches, trainers, and sponsors without whom they could never develop into the athletes they are. The statement is true ~ ~ no man (or woman) is an island.
One of the largest supporters of China was Romney during the last Olympics. Most of the material he bought was from China. This should scare everyone. How can Romney support America if he does not believe in America
......and stashes his millions overseas.
Jerry, just wanted to let you know, they are taxed on the monies that they receive for winning their medals. I agree, they didn't do it alone. Many families sacrifice money, time, and livelihoods for the athletes; plus all the trainers, gyms, and coaches. All the athletes will pay tribute to all who have helped them get to their dreams. Anyone is a fool that thinks success isn't done without help from others. Can we stop with the twisting of words and get to specifics on policies and how that will effect the American public, the voters.
