CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Vice presidential nominee or not, Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) will not be relying on an iPhone app to find out the fate of his political future.
Thought to be on Mitt Romney's VP shortlist, the Ohio senator told reporters on Saturday that he still has not downloaded the mobile phone application that promises to inform users of the pick "before the press and just about everyone else (except maybe Ann)." He first revealed on Thursday that he did not have the app, and that seems to have remained unchanged over the past 48 hours.
"I haven't actually gotten the app myself. I have an iPad all full of apps, half of which I never get time to use anyway. But we'll see," he said. "I assume I'll hear it other ways."
He told a local Cincinnati news station, "I imagine that's not how they probably would communicate it to me, but who knows."
His disinterest in the app is in contrast with the Romney campaign and at least one other potential VP shortlister. Along with campaign staffers, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) has been promoting the technology through twitter.
It would be hard to argue that Portman has not already earned a phone call or face-to-face meeting with the Romney campaign to find out the news. He attended volunteer appreciation events at two Romney Victory offices on Saturday as part of the "Buckeye Blitz" happening throughout the state. It's just the latest in a long line of events he's done in his home state on behalf of the presumptive nominee.
Asked what his responsibilities might be if chosen as Romney's No. 2, Portman said, "I would work very hard for Mitt Romney, but that's what I'm doing anyway."
That certainly will remain true at the beginning of this week when the Cincinnati native travels to the northeast part of the state to stump for the former governor. And while Congress is on its August recess he also plans to travel out of state to campaign for Romney as well.

Actually, that's another right wing lie. Facts are Facts!!!
Agreed Job1, As I pointed out with that poster, I would like an answer to this question: Republicans claim releasing 1-2 tax returns are all that is required and good enough for Romney; then why all the demands for Obama to release more than 1-2 tax records himself, and everything else. Which by the way, the American public knows that he has released more than 2 years worth, in 2008 and 2012. Why are republicans demanding college transcripts, etc when they claim Romney doesn't have to, it's private and not for public knowledge. Republicans, Can you answer the question????
He will never (Romney) release his tax info, He plain and simple does not want his Conservative Republicans to find out what he's been doing.
Facts are facts., alright.
42 straight months of unemployment over 8%...one trillion stimulus failed miserably.
Facts are stubborn things...which is why the Democrat hacks switched over to lying about Romney's tax returns...because they got nothing else.
Facts are Facts: 26 straight months of jobs added, not lost....steady GDP growth, not negative numbers in GDP in 2008-2009...stock market, 8,000 January, 2009....stock market 13,000 July, 2012. Obama releasing 8-10 years of tax returns in 2008 and 2012....Romney releasing 1-1/2 years of tax returns. Facts are Facts...anything else you got Bob???
Aids close to Reid are saying that the source is extremely reliable. So, we now know that Romney is a liar! Otherwise, he would release his tax returns.
Doesn't matter Portman or Romney are not getting elected, the down hill is in about 3 weeks and the truth will come out about Romney.
He won't release his Tax forms not to convince everyone he's clean but because he doesn't want his Conservative Republicans to know what he's been up too. But it's all coming to a head so get your pop corn ready.
As part of his VP vetting process, I bet Romney is asking for ten years worth of tax returns from all his finalists.
"Do as I say, not as I do."
I am willing to make a $1000 wager with anyone who thinks otherwise!
We already know that Romney paid zero taxes for 10 years. What you don't know is he could possibly be a TAX EVADER. For some reason Romney closed his Swiss account and left open his Bermuda/Cayman accounts. All of this happened at the same time the government was offering amnesty for Swiss account. It seems pretty clear that the man was illegally hiding money in a Swiss account and the U.S. will never elect a TAX EVADER president. We will NEVER see those tax returns.
Any particular reason you believe that, or are you just giving us a peek into your Walter Mitty fantasy world?
As George Will and many other Republicans have noted, there must be something truly damaging in Romney’s pre-2010 tax returns for him to willingly endure the criticism and scrutiny that has accompanied his refusal to release them.
The issue, and the matter of his departure date from Bain Capital, has engulfed the campaign. “The cost of not releasing the returns are clear,” Will said on ABC’s This Week . “Therefore, he must have calculated that there are higher costs in releasing them.”
Why is Mitt hiding his tax returns?
Because Romney's too much of a coward to release them and BE HONEST WITH AMERICA!
Shades of running off to France during Vietnam to avoid being drafted.
With your transparent attempt to change the subject, you admit that the statement "We already know that Romney paid zero taxes for 10 years." is just another left-wing lie!
Kannin - If it's a lie then release the returns and prove it wrong. It's pretty simple.
Liz Cheney to be the V.P
Ah, Liz Cheney. Sweet gal, that.
She of the father who had a heart transplant at such a ripe old age.
You realize, of course, that two people died so that Cheney could live another year or two.....his donor and the rightful recipient of the organ.
Even out of office, Cheney is a murderer.
I hear Sarah Palins still available "ya know"
Jay, The Republicans really should consider someone other than Romney, before they give him the official nomination at their convention. Though, I'm pretty sure they can do better than Sarah Palin!
I have tried to explain this to our Republican friends, but can't seem to get through to them with LOGIC!
What happened writes:
upset-1557697 replies:
Now we know why what happened is named as such, because he has not got a clue as to what is REALLY happening around him. Which explains why he's always running around saying: "What happened? What happened!"
upset-1557697 is correct, what happened is in some GOP Bizarro world or something! Because This IS NOT Mitt Romney's election to lose. No way!
You must remember that from the very beginning Mitt Romney, was the "ANYONE BUT" default candidate of the Republican Party.
During the Republican Primaries the most frequent description of the votes cast by Republican voters were for "Anyone BUT Romney!"
Of all the candidates in the Republican Primary, ...
(that is Snow Whitey and her 7 Dwarves: Michele Bachmann along with Ron Paul, Herman Cain, Rick Perry, Job Hunstman, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and finally Mitt Romney)
... at one time or other, during the Republican Primaries, polls showed one or the other of them as the front runner always ahead of Mitt Romney. The majority Republican voter sentiment was always "Anyone BUT Romney!"
It wasn't really until after most of them "suspended" their campaigns that Romney finally became the leading candidate, but only by virtue of the fact that he outlasted by out-spending the rest. Mitt Romney was the default candidate left at the end of the bloody gauntlet.
Romney was simply the sole survivor of one of the most NEGATIVE intra-party campaigns anyone has ever seen in modern American politics. He wasn't the winner. Romney was simply the last survivor. He was what was left, after all the others had been beaten-up like; a gay blond prep student who was thrown down on the floor and had his hair cut off by the big bad bully. Guess who the big bad DEFAULT bully CANDIDATE was? Yes, that would be
Mitt "ANYONE BUT" Romney
Now that it has been established that Mitt Romney is the presumptive nominee of the Republican Party, right here on these very blogs more often than not you will see the conservative Republicans advertise --- "Anyone But Obama!" far more frequently than they post anything at all like or even close to a "Romney 2012".
Why do they prefer ANYONE (but Obama), over "Romney 2012"?
Simple!
Because they still DO NOT LIKE Mitt Romney. They just feel they are stuck with him. And, apparently they are.
A candidate who has that little real support, from his own party, doesn't stand a snowball's chance on the Sun of beating an incumbent President who is loved and respected by the vast majority of his party, including African Americans who are predominantly Democrats, as well as the majority of clear thinking independent non-partisan swing voters of all races, creeds and colors!
Unfortunately for Liz Cheney, she's female...
Read the Book of Mormon. No chance in hell that Liz or Condaleeza or Hayley will get the nod, not if Mitt ever wants to go home to Utah.
People, the time is now to begin the dialogue about Mormonism. From a policy perspective only.
JFK responded to doubters in 1960 by saying that if elected, his loyalty as a Roman Catholic would be first and foremost to his country.
When forced to choose, would Romney's Mormonism allow for the same?
The man is asking to be our Commander-in-Chief, with the authority to send our sons and daughters off to war. What does his faith ask of HIM, once he has that power?
There was a ruckus a few years back over whether a recently-elected Congressman, a practicing Muslim, should be allowed to take his oath of office using the Koran. The Left praised the Congressman's devotion to his faith. The Right went absolutely bat*** crazy!
Would the Right hold Mitt to the same standard vis a vis the Book of Mormon?
Lets break this down in simple terms. Republican TeaBilly Conservative = Self Righteous Hypocrite.
You BetCha….Fer Sure.
The Constitution guarantees that the government make no law restricting the freedom of any citizen to practice their religion, but it DOES NOT preclude an informed electorate from asking of a candidate how their faith might influence policy.
Do any of you know where the Mormon Church stands on social issues?
Do any of you know where the Mormon Church stands on the role of (and place for) women?
Do any of you know where the Mormon Church stands on race and race relations?
Shouldn't you?
Yo Attention all Republican and TeaBilly Conservatives:
Why don't we start "Taxing" all of da Church’s? We both know it has become nothing more than a Corrupt Political Business.
Sincerely,
Da Pope
By da Way…….Did any of these Republican TeaBilly Conservative Politicians Vote to Repeal their Own Socialist Healthcare that they Receive.? You know…………da one that that Covers them and their Families (Including Birth Control) all paid for by Our Tax $$$$$$$$.
I hear Crickets Chirping……
Lets break this down in simple terms. Republican TeaBilly Conservative = Self Righteous Hypocrite.
Mitt "F da Poor" Romney is nothing more than a "Howdy Doodie Political Puppet” sitting on da Koch Brothers Lap.
You BetCha....Fer Sure.
Yo Mitt “F da Poor” Romney
We can sum up that Mormon Field Trip in just a few short words.
A Complete Disgrace and Disaster.
I hope you enjoyed wasting U.S. Taxpayers dollars on your Security.
You BetCha…..Fer Sure.
Mitt is about as Real as a Plastic Bananna!

"the"
We can be sure that anything on Romney's tax returns will be legal since he and his CPA know that they might be scrutinized thoroughly by the ferrets at the IRS. In any case they can have no possible effect on the country as a whole.
We can't say the same for the Fast and Furious documents that Obama is hiding by Executive Privilege. Obama talks “transparency” and practices the most aggressive obscuration.
Apparently the documents relating to Fast and Furious are so damning to Obama that if they come to light he would not only lose the election, but might also be sent to prison.
What does fast and furious documents have to do with taxes? Kinda like deflection....why do republicans claim privacy and national security reasons when their politicians are questioned; but the same principles are not applied to the democrats and Obama? Double standard and Hypocrisy!!
Absolutely nothing. The withholding of F&F documents is a matter of national importance; personal tax returns are just that - personal.
Kannin,
Even I believe that Mittens has paid taxes, but nowhere near the 13.9% average over ten years which he claimed in the primary season. So it isn't a matter of him necessarily being a tax cheat, which he probably isn't, but rather a liar regarding percentage paid, which he probably is. I do not want a liar as my President.
My guess is that he will have to let a few more returns out, a la Nixon and the Watergate tapes, but the damage will continue to plague him and Independents will shift back toward Obama, as a more 'known' quantity, and it's on to Hillary v. Christie in 2016.
So MSNBCMFE, if it is proven that Romney paid 13.9% averaged over ten years, he can count on your vote?
Kannin,
If it's proven that Romney paid an average of 13.9% in income taxes over the past ten years, I would not so easily dismiss him as a candidate worthy of my vote. In fact, if he paid more than a simple average of 10% I would not dismiss him, giving him an additional 3.9% in leeway. Thing is, I suspect the number to be much lower and that I could NOT abide.
...and if it turns out to be an average, say, of less than 5.0% over ten years, would it impact YOUR choice to support him even in the face of all his protestations regarding 13.9? Could YOU abide a bald-faced liar?
Be honest, Kannin.
Honestly MSNBCMFE? I would sure want to find out the name of his CPA!
Kidding aside, I agree that the amount he paid is unimportant, but a "bald-faced lie" is important. For that same reason I cannot abide Obama, either. So what would I do?
I dunno ... Lemme think about it.
You're a reasonable person, Kannin, if you're willing to think it through. What more could anyone ask? If it turns out that, in your view, Romney and Obama are each lying about things, then I suppose it comes down to whose lies prove more fatal to the American vision.
Thing is, Mitt's troubles are contributing today to his being quietly forsaken by FOXNEWS.com. They're running a front page story on the Republican contenders for 2016. Why would they do that?
Meh - tired of being reasonable tonight. Permit me a rambling discourse on my political philosophy (if not, disregard everything after "Meh")
I believe there is a great deal of idiocy on both ends of the political spectrum. My favorite political fantasy: a mainstream party (called the "Intelligent Party") that rejects all forms of extreme stupidity. Now the concept is, of course, quite impossible, but it serves as a mental yardstick with which to judge the current state of political dysfunction. We have two parties whose slavish adherence their own random collection of contradictory principles would be laughable, if it weren't determining the future of our country.
Consider the following: Democrats want to make it a federal crime to eat unhealthy food and ban all smoking within 30 miles of civilization ... except for pot. Republicans say we should have the freedom to eat and smoke what and where we want ... except for pot. Democrats make up pseudo-science to justify any scare story that will increase their power. Republicans ... well ... "Uh ... 'science' ... ? ... whut's that?" Democrats believe that private ownership of guns should be illegal, and illegal immigrants should be allowed to vote. Republicans believe that "the people" in the second amendment refers to ... well ... the people, and fetuses should be allowed to vote. It goes on and on…
Vote Intelligent!
So why not fashion a platform?
Oh ... yeah ... I see what you are implying. Such a platform would lose every single demographic.
Women's bodies are their own business = bye-bye Catholics. Legalize pot = drug dealers try to kill me. Consumption tax to replace income tax = loophole-users hate me. Smaller government = government employees are ready to fight to the death.
OK, I give up.
Then perhaps I shall give it a try, and yes, you shall be credited as founder. I'm already spreading the word on another page here. The Intelligent Party. Kinda says it all.
Oh great! Now we'll both be burned at the stake. Sort of a bi-partisan barbeque.
Why can't Romney just pick up a phone and call the men and women who applied to be his co-runner? Is that too personal? Too many years at BAIN hiring hatchet men? So now he'd rather have some geek in China write an app to send to his colleagues instead of making the call himself?
What about that 3am call to action? Does he have an App for that, too?
romney makes palin and bachmann look smart. portman would be a clown to be romneys v.p.
I know all the facts haven't been produced yet, but when I heard about the mass shooting in Wisconsin the first person I thought of was Michelle Bachmann. She needs to STOP her hate speech NOW.
Diane,
Bachman seems a dangerous accelerant, to be sure. Hate feeds hate...and she shows no mercy.
The saddest thing is the strikingly hypocritical nature of her very own personal relationship, as anyone with the slightest degree of 'Gay-dar' knows what is real......."Not that there's anything wrong with it!"
Perhaps it is that very hypocrisy which fuels her hate, which is to say, her fear.
Try 'acceptance,' Michelle, and get on with living a more honorable life.
A "Do Nothing" Congressman will definitely fit into the Rmoney "Pay Nothing" in offshore income tax campaign.
Over on FOXNEWS.com they're running a front page story today, Sunday, identifying which Republicans are already lining up to run for President in 2016. Their list includes Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, Marco Rubio, and Bob McDonnell.
Wait a minute. Isn't Mitt their boy in 2012 now that the field has cleared? Wouldn't Mitt be running for re-election in 2016?
Hey Mitt, with friends like FOX, who needs MSNBC?
It's OK Rob, ease up. Hussein just shot himself in the foot. Ohioans now know he will disenfranchise the military vote. Old Deputy Dog Holder is at it again. The Arrogant Amateur King strikes again.
Now, here's something interesting ...
Get this! Not only does Mitt Romney refuse to release his tax returns now (other than the one incomplete return for 2010 that suspiciously was missing information about his Swiss Bank Accounts), but Mitt Romney has in his prior political campaigns DEMANDED that other candidates release their tax returns, and furthermore DEMANDED that other candidates even release the tax returns of their spouses, all the while Mitt Romney still REFUSED EVEN THEN to release his own tax returns.
Romney caught in a lie on tax return demands
Demanded that Ted Kennedy release his tax returns in 1994 Senate Race. Demanded that the spouse of a candidate for Governor of MASS in 2002 release tax returns, even though the candidate Shannon O'Brien had already released her tax returns.

Romney demanded Kennedy release tax returns, then backpedaled eight years later
Romney’s 1994 Senate race against Ted Kennedy. It's been largely forgotten, but in that race, Romney demanded Kennedy release his tax returns, saying the veteran senator needed to “prove he [had] nothing to hide.”
Fast forward to 2002, when Romney was running for governor—and singing a different tune. During a gubernatorial debate, a reporter pointed out that all the Democratic candidates in the race—including his eventual opponent Shannon O'Brien—had released their tax returns. The reporter asked Romney if he had something to hide.

Mitt Romney Demands John Kerry's Wife's Tax Returns, Annoys Even Fox & Friends
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haYjTn7UlJk
Not only does Mitt Romney REFUSE to release any more than an incomplete tax return from 2010, in his prior political campaigns Mitt Romney DEMANDED that his opponents, and their SPOUSES, release their tax returns at the same time he refused to release his. I think it is only fair now that we
