Jindal on veepstakes: 'Paul Ryan brings a lot to the table'

J. Scott Applewhite / AP

Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Paul Ryan’s got a friend in Bobby Jindal.

Jindal, governor of Louisiana, told an audience of conservative activists on Saturday that presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney would send a “powerful message” on budgetary issues were he to choose Ryan, Wisconsin’s U.S. House representative, as his running mate.

The remarks came as Jindal – a buzzed-about veep prospect himself – wrapped up a keynote address to the Red State Gathering in Jacksonville, an annual conference of Tea Party and other conservative activist groups.

"I think picking somebody like a Paul Ryan would send a very powerful message that this administration was serious about Medicare reform, entitlement reform, shrinking the size of government, and doing so in a courageous way," Jindal said of a Romney presidency.

Ryan is chairman of the House Budget Committee and the author of a controversial plan that Democrats have attacked over its cuts to federal entitlement programs.

Romney, who won Ryan’s endorsement in March, has spoken favorably of the plan, pleasing conservatives who have helped to make Ryan’s name a nationwide brand.

Still, some at the conference here clearly had another veepstaker in mind.

“I was going to God bless you and pray that our nominee has you and your first lady on the list to be vice president,” an audience member said as Jindal took questions.

Jindal, brushing aside the compliment, responded that he has a “bias” toward the executive experience earned by governors, before adding that Ryan is an exception to that rule.

Asked later if he was making an endorsement of a Romney-Ryan ticket, Jindal said no.

“It’s certainly not my place to be making endorsements. I mean, it’s really up to Governor Romney to pick who he wants,” Jindal told NBC News.  “I just think Paul Ryan brings a lot to the table.”

“Paul's a friend.  Paul's been a great leader. I think he’s an example of a great choice,” Jindal added later.  “I think there are several other examples of great candidates out there as well.”

Jindal earlier told the crowd that he also admired Florida Gov. Rick Scott and Texas Gov. Rick Perry– whom Jindal backed for president during the Republican primaries.

Perry, who dropped out of the race in January, announced for president at last year’s Red State Gathering, held in Charleston, S.C.

Little pauly is quite amusing... As is his "tax plan"

The lack of specifics is what we have come to expect from the teapublicans...

Massive tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires,.. paid for, by "expanding the tax base"... LOL!!!

Except of course, little pauly gives no clues as to how the tax base would be "expanded"...

The rest of his plan, is equally entertaining...

Maybe not jumping for joy, but I think it would help them decide what to do in November. It may not make them pull the switch for Obama, but it just may help them decide that Romney just isn't enough of a motivator to fire up the ol' Rascal or Hoveround to get out to the polls.

"Paul Ryan brings a lot to the table" ????????

Coming from Jindal makes a TON O SENSE.

Lets run the near extinct middle class further into the ground for tax cuts and exemptions for the rich. The only thing Ryan will / could bring to the table is a HEAPING shovel of steaming elephant and horse crap combined, and telling America....like it or not.

I love to hear IDIOTS talk, and these two (2) are neck and neck for the 2012 Darwin Awards'.

Maybe we can play Mecca like, and bow down to the west too !

@!$%# !!!! Can't do this either, as employer's will dock your pay.

Don't worry folks, Romney, Ryan, and Jindal will take care of our back's with their "New"fix".

Promise !

Essentially what Jindal is saying is; "Mr. Romney, please do not ask me to join your sinking ship of a campaign. I value my career, and the last thing I need on my resume is 'failed vice presidential nominee.' You should pick Mr. Ryan over there, he brings......um......stuff ..... to the table."

I can't believe that it has taken this long for someone to pick up on that line from the story ("Jindal earlier told the crowd that he also admired Florida Gov. Rick Scott...."). Rick Scott has been a disaster for Florida. He is also a crook. He should have every penny of his assets seized, and he should be in prison.

Good job, K1200RS!

The only thing Paul Ryan brings to the table is water for Mitt's attack on the 99%.

I can only hope Mitt picks him and proves what his true agenda is. There isn't a spine in either one of these two. Both are Koch brother puppets.

When I drive around the country if find it amazing in what the U.S Government has purchased from private land owners through the BLM, it is nothing more then a land takeover by our government via taxpayers money of which the public get very little use of the land, there is not to be and development for business purposes and most certianly hardly and permitted use for recreation. Most of this land is along lakes, streams, geological features, rivers, annd much of it can be used for grazing cattle in which the BLM does allow. This kland would be better served by private ownership then of Government control. This land grab attacks the freedoms of the private sector. In my opinion it should be stopped and returned to the public " We the people "

No you don't get your wish whether you are driving around the country or not. We have a good bit of protected land and it is going to stay that way so that future generations will be able to enjoy some parts of the country not destroyed by the republicans agenda against our environment and against our safety.

Bush was a disaster, Obama is more of a disaster. The current administration has not a clue how to fix anything. In order for the US to regain its footing we need a plan that will not keep people down (entitlements) but will give them the tools to better themselves. The poor have been voting democrat for years and they are still poor. Simply the liberal voting base tactic. Liberals do not care anymore about the middle class than the Republicans do, it is all a game in Washington and Americans have fell for it hook line and sinker. Our government has enough money coming in they just spend it wrong. Most of it to further their politics. Medicare does need to be addressed otherwise it w ill not be there for future generations. We need someone who has the balls to make a change and it should hurt from the rich to the poor. EVERYONE has to have skin in the game. Every American has to pay something. We have all become a bunch of whiners. Preserve the American Dream, it is not shameful to be successful.

            Dragon,

Why are the polls showing them so close? Don't be so sure of yourself, Obama has to run on his record and the economy sucks no matter how good the spin is. Hillary should have got the nomination in 2008 and I think she would have been a better leader. When there is money involved in the election anything can happen and it doesn't mean we get America's choice in the WH.

This is from a Great Article I found Online:

              A Senator goes whoring

It happened on the night of December 15, 2000. The country was in tumult over the Bush-Gore election. This diversion offered Republican Senator Phil Gramm of Texas an exquisite opportunity to push American financial stability back 100 years.

That evening, Gramm inserted a 262-page amendment into the Commodity Futures Modernization Act. Leaked e-mails would later reveal that it had been written by lobbyists for Enron, Goldman Sachs and the Koch brothers, Kansas billionaires who would later fund the Tea Party movement.

Gramm had turned his office into a subsidiary of Wall Street. From 1997 to 2002, the securities and banking industries had lathered him with $640,000 in campaign contributions. His biggest sugar daddies weren't from Texas; they were Credit Suisse,Morgan Stanley, Bank of America and Goldman. And he was more than willing to step-and-fetch-it on their behalf.

Big oil, big banks and big speculators such as the Kochs wanted to make monster bets in the futures markets. But they wanted to do it in secrecy — without any government regulation.

If you want to know the Truth follow the “Money Trail”. It will usually lead to the Lobbyist, Special Interest and the Self Righteous!

Before all of you libs get hysterical over Obama's re-election chances, perhaps you should wait and see what the rise to 8.3% unemployment does to his polling numbers. Besides, most of these polls over-sample democrats. I have a hard time believing that people on the left are going to flock to the polls like 2008 because, all name calling aside, it is impossible to make Obama's record appear as anything other than what it is - dismal.

It will be the same as Scott Walker's recall - the polls are consistently under estimating who is going to be the most motivated this election.

The "most motivated" will not be polled except on election day. They include any person on any form of federal assistance and their number exceeds the entire camp of Republicans. Seniors on Medicare, Social Security and SSI will protect themselves, so will food stamp recipients, housing subsidy recipients, students reliant on federal loans for college, those receiving unemployment benefits, union workers of every stripe including public employees unions, and the list goes on. Conservatives won big in 2010 because of Democratic lethargy (only 43% of Dems who voted in 2008 turned out in 2010). That will not be the case this year and the outcome will be substantially different.

In theory, the young people that will pay big time for all the extra spending should vote against Obama.

The longer we hold off addressing the spending issues, the worse the cuts will be needed.

Even Bill Clinton admits that going forward the issues Jim mentioned will be our biggest concern for the deficit.

                  #77.3 - Sun Aug 5, 2012 10:10 AM EDT

Jim, not if the Republicans have their way, those on welfare, SSI and folks on food stamps won't be able to vote in some states. The Republicans in some states, like Wisconsin for example, are doing everything they can to disenfranchise those very people. They are most likely to vote Democratic. They are also least likely to have a drivers license or state ID. Some trumped up malarkey about voter fraud although none has ever been proved. Experts say a small fraction of one percent of voting could be, I repeat, COULD BE voter fraud. The election agencies and secretaries of state offices are very good at what they do so it isn't likely there will be voter fraud and that there hasn't been any. If there has it has not been enough to make a difference in the outcome of any election. I would worry about hanging chads and the votes of actual legal registered voters not being counted through shenanigans than someone voting who is dead or isn't eligible.
