Republican presidential candidate and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney campaigns at Stepto's Bar-B-Q Shack in Evansville, Ind. on Saturday.
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Mitt Romney stumped with Tea Party favorite Richard Mourdock on Saturday at a barbecue shack here, seeking to link himself with the popular conservative who unseated a longtime Washington incumbent earlier this year.
“We gotta get this guy elected to the U.S. Senate,” Romney began his speech at Stepto’s Bar-B-Q Shack, a small restaurant off the main highway in Evansville.
As he praised Mourdock, the state treasurer who defeated six-term senator Dick Lugar in the state’s May Republican primary, he seemed to try to affiliate himself with the Tea Party principles Mourdock played up, like a balanced budget.
“You can’t keep spending massively more than you take in,” Romney said as he explained his five key principles for economic recovery. As the crowd drowned him out in applause, he continued, “A treasurer knows that. A governor knows that.”
“There’s only one place in America that doesn’t seem to understand that you can’t keep spending massively more than you take in every year, and that’s Washington. And one reason we’re both going there is to change Washington,” he said.
While this event was billed as a Mourdock campaign event, Romney spent just as much time slamming President Barack Obama, criticizing him for breaking his promise to keep unemployment under 8 percent.
But Mourdock took the spotlight back at the end of the event, criticizing his Democratic Senate opponent, Joe Donnelly, as Romney worked the dining room shaking hands.
“While the governor’s doing that, I have to share with all of you a thought I had coming in today, how proud I am to stand next to the president of the United States, Mitt Romney. And it’s funny, my opponent, Joe Donnelly, doesn’t want to be seen with their candidate, isn’t that amazing?”
Immediately after his short remarks, Romney headed to a fundraiser at the home of local entrepreneur Steven Chancellor, the CEO of the American Patriot Group, the parent company of several subsidiaries.

I had some respect for Romney once-not much-But now he's just another "pimp" for Wall St, Corporate America, the crazed T-Party, the fascist gun lobby, disoriented tax-nuts, residual racists, and Republican fear mongerers. not to mention Mitch Oconnell , the KKK Imperial Wizard of the US Senate...who still wraps himself in the Confederate flag at nap-time every day....Mitt, you can't run with these dogs without getting fleas ! This S-Texas Independent is voting for Obama...my Daddy and Grandaddy may roll over in their graves but my conscience is no longer influenced by the past as we move forward to a better future for my grandchildren..
I find it amazing that the GOP criticised Clinton for being a draft dodger, Obama for not presenting personal documents, and Kerry for flip flopping on issues--and now they have Romney.
BTW I'm from Evansville, the west side of Evansville actually and live not too far from the Chancellor estate where the RMoney fundraiser occurred, and have a couple of comments.
First, this trip to this tristate area was originally not a campaign event. it was a fundraiser. Romney's initially was only to arrive, be whisked to Chancellor's horse farm, meet with several local well 1%er's making large donations to the RNC and leave. The addition of the very short 'public' appearance at the Barbecue Shack was a sudden addition to this trip, announced only yesterday morning.
Second. there are several barbecue restaurants on the west side of Evansville. Most specialize in a barbecue style that is commonly known as Western Kentucky style. Two of these outstanding local restaurants are well known for this style of barbecue are within a mile of the Barbecue Shack. As barbecue is serious business, especially local barbecue, it is somewhat insulting to the locals that Romney chose to stop at the Barbecue Shack that advertises itself as Memphis barbecue.
A minor comment, but it was considered somewhat indicitive of Romney's established political instincts by the pool players as a West Franklin Street watering hole last night.

Those "shovel ready" jobs accounted for only $71 billion or 9% of the stimulus while 40%, $300 billion went to tax cuts.
Also "shovel ready" is a term that applies to projects that have had all the environmental and engineering work completed allowing the actual work to begin months or years sooner than "new" projects.

RayW., slodon and 13BVET, you have all asked me to show how Romney's tax returns MIGHT change your vote, and I will get to that in just a sec, but first, Ray you wrote:

NOW, as to the question about: How Mitt Romney's tax returns might change YOUR vote?
It has nothing to do with how rich he is or how much or little taxes he's paid. Romney may be hiding something else far more serious. The liberals and other Obama supporters really don't care what's in his tax returns. It will not change their votes. They will still vote for Obama.
Here is where Romney's tax returns might just change YOUR vote!
Let's say that Romney finally releases his tax returns, and it turns out that Romney has been seriously investing in something as unsavory as The Porn Industry. A lot of investors do, because it has been proven that porn is a money maker even in the most depressed economies and when it comes to making money Romney knows a good investment when he sees it, right?
And let's say that it is also revealed that since his days as Gov. of Mass., Romney has consistently given huge tax deductible donations to Planned Parenthood! But wait! Romney has said he will "cut off funding to Plan Parenthood" if elected, he even said, "Planned Parenthood, I'll get rid of that."
Just for the sake of argument here, let's say that Romney's tax returns actually reveal he has been a longstanding large contributor to Planned Parenthood and a huge investor into the Porn industry.
Do YOU think that might have some Republicans question whether or not they really want to vote for Mitt Romney? If you are at all honest, then of course you do!
It might NOT be Planned Parenthood or Porn, but what I am saying is that there just may be something in his tax returns that Mitt Romney knows for sure is not going to be acceptable to Republican voters.
(Like I said earlier, he doesn't care about losing Liberal or non-partisan Obama voters, because he has already lost them.)
Romney can NOT afford to lose a single Republican vote. That's a fact! And he needs non-partisan, independent swing votes to win! Romney cannot afford to lose the Republican votes and he MUST find a way to get the fence-sitters to fall over to his side.
If there is ANYTHING in his tax returns that he thinks will lose him YOUR VOTE, you can bet he is going to keep that information FROM YOU!

If Romney shows his tax returns and it shows he paid his fair share of taxes it will allow him to embarass the Democrats. If he releases his tax returns and, although legal, show unsavory investments or that he paid a much smaller percentage than middle class folks the Dems can say aha and he'll try and explain it away but will lose more voters. If he continues to refuse to show the tax returns, even if all is legal and he paid a fair share, had no questionable investments etc. one will continue to wonder what is in them that he doesn't want people to see. So unless he paid the same persentage as average middle class Americans, invested in things not Planned Parenthood or porn, and all is legal he's screwed.

I will always have a bad vision in my head when some illiterate reporter uses the word "stump" writing about politicians, especially the righties.
Years ago a farm boy I knew - a very staunch conservative because of their moral virtues - explained to me what a stump-broken cow was. He claimed the same could be said about sheep and goats, too. But I already had my fingers in my ears and was walking away chanting, "Lalalalalalalala," so I could hear any more about his conservative morals.
It took a whole lot of beer to drown out that vision, but bad reporters can revive it every two years. Now I have to blot out the vision of Mitt Romney "stumping..."

And why weren't those accounts disclosed and missing from his released tax records. Why does the romeny man as president need overseas accounts anyway. If want to see what happens when the public votes a socialist into office take a look at France when Mitterand was voted into office back in the 1980's. The rich were pumping their money over here and places like Switzerland. This caused a loss of value in the French currency. At that time France had the largest Communist party outside of Russia. Take a look at the current French president who has put in place hugh tax's on the rich. Right now any body that is rich (meaning they have brains) is leaving the country for new homes in England, Switzerland, Canada and other country's. When they leave a country they take the manufacturing base with them. So if you hate your job and think the the federal government can support you when they are not collecting the tax's to support you good luck and keep voting for a socialist/Marxist like President Obama.
So let's just say that Obama is as much of a Socialist as Romney is Fascist catering to the 1%ers. Now that the name calling is done let's look at what they have said. The pandering and flip flopping of Romney can't go unnoticed. Face it, like it or not, the Right Wing Extremist element of the Republican party now controls the party. The once Grand Old Party is smaller than it has been in decades. People leave, good people who like the middle and are considered Socialists by their fellow Republicans who are on the extreme fringe of the party and reality. The Democrats had similar problems with extreme lefties in control of their party back in the 1970s. The Dems snapped back toward the center but will the Repbus snap back or will their extremist party fall apart like Conservative Federalist and Whig parties of the past? As the nation and the world becomes more liberal those who favor the extreme right fall by the wayside.
England seems to be doing a pretty good job. They are able to host the Olympic Games. In their opening ceremonies they touted the Socialized Medicine that they have. Other industrial, first world, nations also have a single payer or cooperative medical plan including private and public funding. I have heard nothing coming from those countrys where they want uncontrolled exceedingly increasing medical insurance premiums. The Canadians I have talked to love their system.
Unfortunately so many listen to the talking hate mongers on radio and TV instead of ACTUALLY experiencing or talking to people who have experienced such systems. So they make stupid statements about how bad systems like those in UK and Canada are.
Frankly those who are currently benefitting from the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare if you like) don't want it gone. Calling it Obamacare will be a compliment to President Obama as more and more people get a taste of how great it is. Supporting Fascist corporate entities will make things worse for average people and beneficial only to the very, very, very wealthy.

People that believe that you can get away with not paying income tax's for 10 years have to be out of the mind. I worked at IRS and believe me they would be all over you. If Mitt Romney did not pay tax's for ten
years then IRS needs to be investigated with the removal of some people for not doing their jobs. The reason that when Mitt Romney when he was governor of Mass. that the state was 47 in job creation is that the state had a under 5% unemployment rate at the time. And by the way the news that Mitt closed a steel mill and layed off the workers was not done under Mitt when he was at Bain Capital, it happened after Mitt left Bain Capital by a man who is now a bundler for the OBAMA reelection campaign.
Harry Reid is a lying slime. Note that he made the slander while on the Senate floor where he has immunity against law suits. He is an embarassment to America. It is such a relief that he is not a Republican!

This is a nice site to see what is going to happen in January if Congress allows the tax rates to rise. As for the small business that makes a $500,000 net profit, the tax wil increase from the present $151,760 to $167,921.50 - when you take him through all the rates. So it will increase by $16,161.50 and that is how much less he will have to put back into the business. One might consider that $151,760 might already be considered more than his fair share since he is giving employment to others and produciing a service. Add the fact that when the tax rates are imposed on all making more than $200,000 ($250,000 for couples) it will bring in $85 billion - enough to run this corrupt bloated federal bureaucracy for just 8 days - it is especially egregious to tax a million small businesses at a cost of 710,000 jobs. Might be fine if we could just take from the Paris Hiltons of the world even while still being somewhat suspicious. What right do I have to taker even her money for myself and my charitable causes after all?

If he managed his money properly like you want the working poor to do he will be just fine. He has no more right to a lower tax than the working poor or any other tax payer. The problem with small business owners are a lack of customers not taxes. There is no reason to expand with out customers. There is no moon water!
