The Koch Brothers-backed Americans for Prosperity has purchased a whopping $23 million in advertising airtime between Aug. 8 and Sept. 10, according to ad-spending data from SMG Delta.
The TV ads will air in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
This is yet another example of outside-group spending aiding Mitt Romney and the Republicans in the presidential contest. Already, as First Read reported earlier today, Team Romney (when you combine all the outside groups) is outspending Team Obama (the campaign, DNC, outside groups) this week alone, $25 million to $14 million.
This Americans for Prosperity buy, however, won't begin until next week.

Hey how much of that money is being spent at NBC? This ought to make you guys happy.
But why do I sense a tone of whining about being outspent?
It was all the rage in 2008 when Obama was blowing the doors off of McCain.
McCain was too busy taking afternoon naps to be bothered with serious fundraising.
See Ursula, that is something I will never understand, If McCain was asleep most of the time why did it take $700 million to beat him?
Its a total waste of money ..Right now 82% of the people watching tv ..the min they see Romney turn off the sound or change the channel ..Just like i do i cant stand the site of this thief ..The reason he cant show his tax returns is he didn't pay any taxes .The majority of his money is safely out of the USA to avoid taxes .. This Romney character is a "BUM" !
WCA - $700M was probably overkill ... he could've likely beat him with a lot less but didn't leave it to chance.
WCA, its Murray, what do you expect. Really look at it, the same reporter that met with anonymous hard left, che guevara style bloggers in St. Louis last year. Some half azzed clandestined meeting only revealed because these retards were too dumb to lock the door for a lack of a better term.
nice try Ursula, that is funny. I just love how the left is so eager to say fvck the constitution, annoint Hussein King and Emperor. this is the 12th year of bush LOL

A recommendation to the American people, especially in swing states -- get TiVo!
Ursula-279622 -- At least McCain gave Cheney a good arse-whooping - Ha!
Caesar Augustus- Dude, "che guevara?" Hahahaha!
hahaha like its not true or hahaha as indeed he is your idol? he's your idol aint he? that would explain a lot
With Koch-y brothers, Mitt is on steroids.
"Already, as First Read reported earlier today, Team Romney (when you combine all the outside groups) is outspending Team Obama (the campaign, DNC, outside groups) this week alone, $25 million to $14 million."
And yet Romney still trails in most of those important swing states. You'd think successful businessmen like the Koch Brothers would be expecting a slightly better ROI by now, wouldn't you?
It's not hard to trail when polling companies skew the results by overcounting democrats. Several major polling companies over poll democrats by as much as 6% and report the results without the overage factors. Gallop, AP, NYT's, Pew and several others do this. It's hard to figure out why they do this other than they hope higher Obama/Democrat numbers will discourage Romney/GOP voters from voting.
That's not going to happen this year. Conservatives and Republicans are on a mission to get Obama out of the White House... I suspect this will will be a banner year for turn out from the right. It seems everything the left is doing will backfire on them.
Brianb, some of those Conservatives and Republicans can no longer stand what the Party has become and many will hurt Romney by voting 3rd Party. Also the Democrat's ground game will be something to behold. I am afraid that the Koch money will be Hail Mary passes.
When you consider all the taxpayers money Obama spends by claiming his campaign speeches are policy speeches therefore his campaign doesn't have to pony up campaign money. We all know that Obama will milk the taxpayers for every dime he can.
Romney will need the money to combat dirty politics and lying by Dingy Harry from the Senate Floor. Once again Dingy Harry has disgraced his position and the US Senate. But then the Democrats are desperate and will use any dirty trick because they can't run on their record. SHAMEFUL!!!!
BTW Ursula - McCain and Obama both agreed to use federal money, which McCain did, but Obama lied about and backed out of the agreement.
The Koch Brothers did much better financing the movement to deny global-warming. They singlehandedly raised doubts where there were none, all to protect their profits, at the expense of the planet. I don't know why Democrats are not throwing this issue back in their faces, considering everyone in the US is feeling the consequences of our burning fossil fuels so long it changed the climate.
sfcret,
McCain and Obama both agreed to use federal money, which McCain did, but Obama lied about and backed out of the agreement.
That's why I took a second look at Obama, I felt it was very underhanded.
The best government the Koch brothers can buy. I wold love to see these two rat b@stards in prison someday.
Job1 that smacks of desperation. As if Obama didn't buy the union vote... as if Obama didn't buy the Green industry vote... as if Obama isn't buying the under advantaged vote. Don't feign innocence by blaming the Koch Brothers when Obama is doing exactly the same thing. The major difference is, Obama is using my money to buy votes... Koch Bros are using their money... but of course you don't see it that way... how could you?
Brianb I thought we already went over this. There are more Democrats in the US than Republicans. To interview that same number from each party and the Independents would force an over sample of the Libertarians. Is that what you want?
sfcret - the bully pulpit advantage is one that every incumbent in every office has. Presidents Reagan, Clinton, and G. W. Bush used it successfully. This is nothing new so why are you faulting President Obama for doing the same as his predecessors? Did you fault them also?
Loyaltexan - you'd better check the demographics on that. The only oversampling that is occurring is with the democrats... and they don't have an advantage over the other 2 voting blocs.
brian I don't follow you. Registered Democrats about 45 %, GOP about 33%.
Do you think equal numbers from each party should be surveyed?
Oh Yes the Dems infamous poll offensive, they trot it out every election, using their highly accurate and oh so non partisan polls to show their candidate of the day way ahead in the run up to the election, in order to pick off a few "me Too, jump on the bandwagon, sheep",(even if they have to oversample their candidate by double digits just to have it look like their candidate is up by five, that's really bad news for them if You think about it), but You will notice by election day it will be back down to within the margin of error,(with their candidate shown in the lead of course) just so, win or lose, they can maintain their credibility for the next election cycle.
It's all about return on investment - these guys must be looking for a pretty big one!
Well it certainly paid off the George Kaiser and Henrik Fisker!
After learning how much Romney and management at Bain made for themselves compared to their investors, they shouldn't count on it.
Prove you statement that people turn off the sound. Are you in everyone's home when a Romney commercial comes on? Have you witnessed this in all the homes as you claim?
I think In Palm Springs Ca makes generalizations in the first order. You can turn down the sound in your home, but you don't know what other people do and you definitely don't know what all people do.
I usually turn up an Obama commercial... just to hear the lies and remind myself how much I can't wait to see him lose the election.
That is funny Palm Springs CA.
I get the same thing when Chavez or Obama get on the TV, which is multiple times a day.
Palm Springs, I agree. The negative ads aimed at President Obama are just not working, in part, because pictures of the President looking grim just remind folks how hard he has worked, and how much he cares. Karl Rove seems to have lost his touch, or else, campaigning against a popular incumbent is just harder than it looks.
The negative ads that Obama's campaign are running makes the president look small and petty. I expect more from the President, he should lead by example.
Cannot believe that the Koch brothers are spending money in MN in August . LOL
Hey folks, no one watches tv in August, we are all outside ,or up at the lake.
Secondly, we will be voting our electoral count into the blue column again in November.
Obama's Campaign spent over $100 million in July on Negative ads, mostly about Romney's tax returns and Bain Capital. Never got much for their money as it hardly, if at all, moved the needle. Only the left wing nuts are concerned about Romney's tax returns. It's like they can't find anything negative about Romney so they want to nit pick tax returns, which most don't have the smarts to understand anyway.
How about Dingy Harry releasing his tax returns, I believe McClatchy News Service, (or some other news service) asked him to and he refused.
thetotas: "I expect more from the President, he should lead by example."
And let's just pretend for a minute that he did, and ran nothing but happy, feel-good, positive ads. Do you honestly believe for one minute that Romney would stop the negative attacks and follow his example? Look, I hate negative advertising as much as the next person - heck, I hate political advertising, period. But the "who started it" or even the "who should start it" argument is fruitless in today's political environment. In a utopian world, I would agree with you. But I can't think of a single politician in my lifetime - Democrat or Republican, incumbent or challenger - who hasn't run negative ads.
On the other hand, doesn't it all depend on your (or my) perspective? If it's the other candidate attacking your guy, it's a negative ad. If it's your candidate attacking the other guy, it's just telling it like it is. As voters, we have the choice of which way we want to see it. Just like we have the choice to ignore these ads and think for ourselves.
With Willard Romney hiding so much about his life and dealings, many people are left to wonder if Willard is covering up sinister or criminal activity. Let's keep the investigation going on Willard Romney, and expose him for what he is, A LYING, TAX CHEATING, OUTSOURCING TRAITOR TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!
So, you are wishing that the President have only nicey nice things to say about his opponent while Gov. Romney's campaign can say whatever the Koch Brothers, and Grover Norquitst want and that is lies, lies, and more lies. Ever hear of fighting fire with fire?
If one can't stand the heat one should leave the kitchen immediately.
Contemp,
Only in the minds of the Neo-Nut Right Wing Drones, who live in Rush World!!!
The newest research from Nate has it as:
“Obama chance of winning 70.8% Romney 29.2%”
Job1,
With Willard Romney hiding so much about his life and dealings, many people are left to wonder if Willard is covering up sinister or criminal activity. Let's keep the investigation going on Willard Romney, and expose him for what he is, A LYING, TAX CHEATING, OUTSOURCING TRAITOR TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!
That's what people were saying about Obama in 2008 and now in 2012. Is this just standard election rhetoric?
Contempt -- post 4.9 is spot on!
Actually it's clear that Willard is bad and hiding something. For the President it is and has been just good old racism at play by the likes of Rush and the Neo-Nut Right Wing Drones.
Contempt Me:
Post # 4.9 may be "spot on" in Brockton's mind, but to everyone else, it looks like not just a cut and paste, but out and out plagiarism:
http://www.policymic.com/articles/7981/7-reasons-why-mitt-romney-will-win-the-presidential-election-and-8-reasons-why-obama-will-lose
Brockton Barlow
Contempt's -- post 4.9 is spot on? Really, not a thing to disagree with? Even Contempt's inability to count correctly? Please start off with Romney's magnificent ability to stay on message. Tell me how Romney saying one thing one day and then denying he said it the next day is staying on message. I will agree that he is being consistent in doing so however..
blackcatwhitecat - the media is not in Romney's corner... so they can say anything about him they want and get away with it. If they tried doing that to Obama, they would be put up on a cutting board and skewered. It is just that simple... so what you hear about Romney in the MSM, is always skewed in Obama's favor.
While you don't even have a grasp on that minor issue, conservatives are all over it. The MSM is not who we listen to... we listen to those sources that you hold in contempt... and that's the way it is. We can objectively view how the left skews things and can discern the difference between truth and what the left is saying... We know you are viewing events through the MSM window... we look and decide for ourselves. You don't have that ability.
Brianb, do you actually believe this fantasy? The exact same could be said about your side. You have taken intellectual dishonesty to a new plateau. You seem smart enough to realize the old maxim that nothing is right or wrong but only thinking makes it so.
From the many posts I have read on this site the so-called MSM is disliked by both sides.
#1 reason Willard will lose; the electoral college! ☺
RCP (Average of polls) as of 8/1/2012
8 Swing States: Tied in NC (15), Obama leads in 7, Romney leads in 0.
Delegates: Obama = Solid(142)+Likely(37)+Lean(68)+Swing(85) = 332*
Delegates: Romney = Solid(76)+Likely(55)+Lean(60)+Swing(00) = 191
Delegates: [332+191+15 = 538] Win = 270*

I guess out President has to do more catering to raise the 1 Billion dollars that he promised.
Maybe he can go to American Idol and compete as the great singer he is. Or maybe he should join the NY basketball team, or join a couple of Golf Tournament.
How about creating all those jobs that you promised along with the 6% unemployment.
To go along with the 4.3 million private sector jobs, a 4 percent increase under President Obama. The President will get at there in his next term. Remember it has hard Cleaning Up Bush’s Mess!!!
Job1,
Oh please, give it a brake. Bush did some harm but it has been nearly 4 years and President Obama has doubled the mess. National Unemployment at 8.1 and rising.
Let us not forget the shovel ready jobs.
All the Stimulus which did not stimulate because it was stupidly spent. ETC ETC and ETC.
"To go along with the 4.3 million private sector jobs, a 4 percent increase under President Obama. The President will get at there in his next term. Remember it has hard Cleaning Up Bush’s Mess!!!"
The Stimulus did work and Bush had 8 years to make his mess. In this case we will give President Obama 4 more years to Clean Up Bush’s Mess!!!
Brianb
Since President Obama has the media advantage (your post 4.17) how about you call up your boss Mr. Koch and suggest he spend some of those hundreds of millions buying up networks so he can get his message out on the cheap. Works for Richard Murdoch. Besides, after the election he will have something of value.
He will probably make you program director for your brilliant idea.
The Koch Brothers-backed Americans for Prosperity has purchased a whopping $23 million in advertising airtime between Aug. 8 and Sept. 10, according to ad-spending data from SMG Delta.
What do the Koch Bros expect for their "investment?" This is a legitimate question American voters should be asking. The question is, does the media still have enough independence to ask the question, considering they are the ones being paid.
Amy, I'm not as naive as you are. The Koch Bros want the same thing that Solyndra and other White House Administrators got form President OBama. It does not make it correct unless there is transparency and I have not seen any from President Obama.
We have to hold Romney to the same standards and not let him do what Obama has done.
Concern Citizen-856329
Solyndra wanted money. The Koch fellas want legislation in order to strip mine the country. I view the latter as more detrimental to the citizenry.
The difference is, Concerned, investing in solar energy manufacturing in this country benefits our economy and the environment, as well as a particular company, whereas dropping regulations and closing tax loopholes for oil and chemical industries only improves the Koch's bottom line, it does not benefit us all.
Why the heck aren't the Koch's creating jobs with their millions? Because their aim is to increase their personal wealth, not to re-build this country. They are also not in the business of saving the climate.
Concern, I must differ; you are more naive than Amy has ever been or ever will be. Now if you don't like that said to you, then I suggest you stop being disrespectful to others; it does not go unnoticed that you complain about other liberal posters disrespect while doing your share of disrespectful flame throwing.
The Koch brothers already have all the tax loopholes, tax subsidies and tax breaks for the oil and coal industries, they just don't want that tax-payer subsidized Corporate Welfare to go away. And Koch Bros don't want clean, renewable energy to get in their way either. The oil, gas and coal industries don't want competition and that is the ONLY reason why Solyndra was ever discussed by republicans, let alone investigated by Issa. The Koch Bros have a huge stake in the Keystone XL pipeline. Since Koch contributes multi-millions to GOPers, only those in denial do not ask what Charles and David Koch expect in return.
If you think grover norquist squeeze's congress's balls tight because of the pledge. Rmoney is going to speak a couple octaves higher after the koch boys get done squeezing his balls to get there 23 million dollars worth.
blackcatwhitecat
You are correct Solyndra did not give, they got 500 million of our money. OH, I just remember, was there not some one, that was associated with Solydra as a campaign bundler for President Obama?
Amy and Jody, in Wisconsin the Koch brothers are getting the opportunity to buy public power facilties and distribution grids as part of a non-bid and uncontestable processes.
Per section 16.896, "Sale or contractual operation of state−owned heating, cooling, and power plants. (1) Notwithstanding ss. 13.48 (14) (am) and 16.705 (1), the department may sell any state−owned heating, cooling, and power plant or may contract with a private entity for the operation of any such plant, with or without solicitation of bids, for any amount that the department determines to be in the best interest of the state. Notwithstanding ss. 196.49 and 196.80, no approval or certification of the public service commission is necessary for a public utility to purchase, or contract for the operation of, such a plant, and any such purchase is considered to be in the public interest and to comply with the criteria for certification of a project under s. 196.49 (3) (b)."
Clear enough their return on investment?
" It does not make it correct unless there is transparency and I have not seen any from President Obama."
Right......Romney won't release his tax returns - or the names of his bundlers - but President Obama, who's done both, is the one lacking transparency.
The millions the country has to spend to get Obama out of office in 2012 is peanuts to the $500 million of our money Obama threw away on Soylendra alone..... VOTE FOR ROMNEY IN 2012!
UAW, the estimate is that the presidential race will cost close to $6billion of which the majority will be spent by Romney backers. Peanuts compared to $500million. Right!
Interesting, UAW, you consider spending money on developing a new industry and creating jobs in this country as "throwing it away."
And socking money in Swiss and Cayman Island bank accounts is beneficial to our economy, how?
Hi Amy - I did notice my question being answered, thanks! i was hoping for my special prosecutor question getting answered but I'll take it none the less. Have a good day.
Amy, Seriously lets use some common sense here. You don't think giving $500 million of tax payer money to a company that went out of business less than 2 years later and created -0- jobs is throwing money away? This is why we need fresh politicians in Washington to many accept ridiculous wasteful spending like this.
Black Cat, You are correct if it ends up being $6B that is peanuts to the $800B wasted on Stimulus I and the trillions we are on the hook for now threw Obamacare. Some times you have to spend money to save money...
ROMNEY 2012!
And this is news? In my IA area, there has been only one actual "I'm Mitt Romney and I approve this message" ad which tells me nothing about Romney only how bad President Obama is. The rest of them are American Crossroads, Americans for Prosperity and Crossroads GPS. Of course, you practically need a magnifying glass to read who paid for it it but then, that's the purpose of SuperPAC ads, the less the viewer knows about WHO is behind the Americans for Prosperity or ???, the more likely it is the viewer might believe it.
The ad Obama runs showing Mitt singing the national anthem is an embarrassment to the presidency. It looks like the tactic a 3 year old would use to win a cute baby contest. I am really impressed that most Americans are looking beyond these ads and seeing who will be a better leader. Despite how hard the liberal media tries to hide Obama's record. Voters arent going to forget Obamacare, the waste of stimulus I, Amnesty for Illegals, Replacing military pride with Gay Pride, etc. etc. etc...
The Koch Brothers are hedging their bets against the US invading Iran and finding the prohibited equipment Koch sold them.
