The House Ethics Committee has unanimously concluded that House member, California Democrat Laura Richardson, was found to have "violated" the law and was fined $10,000 for misconduct.
Richardson, who is seeking another term in November, was accused of pressuring staffers to work for her campaign. The committee said it had "substantial reason to believe that Representative Laura Richardson violated the Purpose Law...." This will trigger a floor vote to sanction her.
As part of an agreement with the committee, Richardson admitted to all seven counts of allegations against her.
The Ethics Committee established an investigative subcommittee in November of last year to investigate her use of official staff for campaign purposes, which is against House rules. Staffers in many offices leave the congressional office to work for campaigns, but working for both is not permitted.
The committee said in a statement that she was "improperly using House resources for campaign, personal, and nonofficial purposes; by requiring or compelling her official staff to perform campaign work."
The committee also found she obstructed the investigation by the Ethics Committee through "the alteration or destruction of evidence, the deliberate failure to produce documents responsive to requests for information and a subpoena, and attempting to influence the testimony of witnesses."
The fine must be paid no later than Dec. 1, 2012. The committee also strongly discouraged Richardson from permitting any of her official staff to perform work on her campaign -- either on a paid or volunteer basis.

E. Holder in contempt of Congress and nothing. If he was just a citizen he would have been in jail long before this. I guess its OK to allow weapons to be bought illegally and allow them to kill American citizens and then lie and deny it and then say he knew about it.
It appears the US Government is advocating only holding up laws it feels are appropriate compared to those that are written and suppose to be upheld regardless of political affiliation.
I guess the citizens could impeach on those grounds alone.
I wonder how Government would feel if the Citizens did the same thing regarding laws in this country?

If ANY politician is found guilty of legal or ethical violations bust them wide open.
It's truly sad for all Americans that so many folks that are elected to Federal office seem to lack a strong ethical foundation to govern the way they behave.
To effect change, I believe American's need to stop re-electing incumbents so they won't need to spend so much time and effort trying to maintain their position rather than doing the work for which they were elected.
In essence, voters need to impose a term limit of one term on these folks.

Logic is not exactly a strong suit for government. You must be corrupt and unethical to run for a government position. (main quality) Do as little work as possible to get your lifetime benefits. Vacations and immoral ethics & improper conduct are a plus for continued employment. It seems to me that politics are like the WWE, scripted for public knowledge. At the end of the day the politicians go to their dressing room and have a drink and discuss how they have screwed the United States citizens over once again. These people are like actors, some good and some bad, but all are Washington celebrities.
Here's where a little "journalism" would've made this a good article. They fined her $10,000.00. How much in dollars did she benefit from her unethical conduct? Five will get you ten she made out on that deal big time!
