Obama donates $5,000 to his own campaign

For months, President Barack Obama has urged his supporters to donate money to his campaign, warning that his Republican challenger, Mitt Romney, will likely outpace him in fundraising. Now, for the first time this election cycle, Obama is putting some of his own money into his war chest.

On Tuesday, the Obama campaign released a YouTube video that shows the president donating $5,000 – the federal maximum allowed per person – to his campaign fund. The video opens with the president sitting at a computer, telling his supporters: “First of all, I think everybody should know that I really care about this campaign and I believe in what our administration is doing and I want to make sure that folks know I’m not just talking the talk, I’m walking the walk.”

He assures voters that the first lady is on board: “I have cleared this with Michelle; I want everybody to know.”

A YouTube video shows President Barack Obama donating to his own campaign for the first time. His Republican challenger Mitt Romney has fundraised more than him for the last two months.

But the issue of campaign finance is no laughing matter for team Obama (which includes the Obama Campaign, Obama Victory fund and the Democratic National Committee) which has been outpaced in fundraising for the past two months by team Romney (the Romney Campaign, the Republican National Committee and the Republican National Committee Victory Fund).

The Obama campaign remains on top, with nearly $100 million in its coffers, according to federal election data at opensecrets.org. The Romney campaign, by contrast, has slightly more than $20 million.

Still, Republican-leaning super PACs have trounced their Democratic counterparts when it comes to hauling in cash. By all accounts, the super PACs have tipped the overall fundraising scales in the Republicans’ direction.

It is not unusual for candidates to donate to their own campaign. According to Romney aides, he and his wife each donated $75,000 to the Romney re-election effort including the RNC and Romney Victory Fund in May.

But for Obama, this is a shift. In 2008, then-candidate Obama did not contribute to his campaign, according to an Obama for America official.

Devdoc12able...

Romeny's HORSE collected as a tax refund the amount equal to my full time wages.

Got anything less cynical as a retort to this factual statement of mine? How is what I said funny or otherwise laughable?

Romeny's horse just had to look pretty and do NOTHING to collect my full wages as a "write off" refund. A rich man's hobby earned him a dip into the treasury, while my hard work (literally) earned the same amount in wages. My contribution in taxes was much less than that, yet still MORE than Romney's 13.9%. Go figure the FAIRNESS in any of that!

A rich man can deduct a hobby (horse) and take back the amount a middle class full-time worker earns during that entire year. The middle class worker still pays more than Romney's 13.9% share in taxes. Warren Buffett, the second richest man in the world agrees with the overwhelming majority of Americans that THAT IS NOT FAIR!

TAX THE RICH MORE to allow them to actually share more fairly in the tax burden. Billionaires need no tax breaks added to their already shameless NON-PAYMENT of waht's fair. Fairer Taxes for thr rich NOW!

So I'm supposed to DONATE to the King instead of giving my niece a wedding gift? (in this economy?)

Obama has 100 million to fund his campaign and Romney has 20 million. And yet liberal dems who suckle at Obama's teat still convince themselves that Romney and big bad corporate America are burying their valiant hero Obama under mounds and mounds of cash. Apparently left wing liberals are no better at math than they are at ethics.

      The price-tag? $6,800.

Team Obama spending more on campaign than taking in; like our government. Sounds like Team Romney may have a successful media blitz September/October, outspending Obama 2-3 to 1. Team Obama may have made a strategic mistake when they heavily spent early on trying to smear Romney with just minimal success.

OK so Barack Obama takes $5,000 that was paid to him by the American Tax Payer and donates it to his own campaign, and then come January 1st. 2013 he writes off a campaign contribution of $5,000 on his taxes as a tax write-off. Pretty smooth........

WOW! It's a double win for President Obama!

"VOTE MITT ROMNEY THIS NOVEMBER FOR A BETTER, STRONGER AMERICAN ECONOMY"

Another knee jerk reaction by Obama's team. Thety can't even get simple everyday facts right. And theses idiots are in the WH!!!!

"The White House apologized Tuesday to Fox News contributor Charles Krauthammer for lambasting him over saying President Obama removed a bust of Winston Churchill from the Oval Office – an act that Krauthammer had argued was symbolic of the president’s failure to appreciate the United States' close allies.
White House Communication Director Dan Pfeiffer said in his apology that his comments on the official White House blog – including one dismissing Krauthammer’s claim as “ridiculous” – were the result of “internal confusion” about two Churchill busts.
“I take your criticism seriously and you are correct that you are owed an apology,” Pfeiffer wrote in an email that Krauthammer asked be made public. “There was clearly an internal confusion about the two busts and there was no intention to deceive.”

Queen Michelle is too busy traveling and spending $6,800 for a jacket to even KNOW (or care) that they snubbed the Brits the first month in the WH!

Meanwhile, Mr. Obama's economy continues to stagnate and there is no foreseeable end in sight.

The latest data on gross domestic product highlight the Fed’s long-term quandary. Though growth has slowed sharply from a burst late last year, the expansion continues to chug along at an anemic 1.5 percent annual pace.

That growth avoids the technical definition of recession. But the sluggish pace of hiring makes it feel like a downturn for the 12.7 million American workers still sidelined.

And some experts believe the economy may be permanently stuck in slow-growth mode.

“We do think we’ve seen more permanent changes in the economy as a result of this recession,” said Michelle Meyer, an economist at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. “We estimate potential growth to be at about 2.25 percent, whereas back in in 2005 we were saying it was about 3.5 percent.”

That is a huge downgrade, driven in part by a drop in the number of Americans who have left the workforce -- many of them older workers who are gone for good. The pace of growth will be held back as long as an aging baby boom population continues to leave the workforce and cut back on spending.

And of course even people who are working are looking over their shoulder.

“People aren't necessarily panicked to lose their job, but they're not really confident enough to borrow a lot and spend a lot,” said Richard Hoey, chief economist of BNY Mellon. “We're expansionary at a subpar pace. We're not going into a recession but sure aren’t going into a boom, either.”

It may be while before consumers, who account for 70 percent of U.S. economic activity, begin spending again at levels usually expected in a recovery.

This far into the previous five recoveries, the economy was expanding at an average pace of 4.4 percent, twice the current average. The biggest single missing growth component is consumer spending. The lackluster pace has knocked 1.3 percentage points of growth from the historical pace of recoveries, according to Credit Suisse economist Neal Soss.

Barring a burst of new hiring, consumers aren’t likely to resume spending at historical levels, especially as households continue to work off a surge in credit card and mortgage debt that preceded the financial collapse of 2008. In June, most of the modest increase in personal income went straight into households' savings, pushing the savings rate to 4.4 percent, the highest level in a year.

Those added savings are further pressuring spending: retail sales have fallen for three months in a row.

“News on the consumer and retail front has gone from bad to worse,” said Chris Christopher, economist at IHS Global Insight.

Isn't it a sad commentary that Mr Obama has to try and goad people into donating to his campaign. His ideas and practices are simply not moving people to donate. And isn't it ironic that, the very people Mr. Obama is trying to get to cough up the dough for his campaign, can't afford to do so because his policies and practices have left them broke and without jobs.
