Obama donates $5,000 to his own campaign

For months, President Barack Obama has urged his supporters to donate money to his campaign, warning that his Republican challenger, Mitt Romney, will likely outpace him in fundraising. Now, for the first time this election cycle, Obama is putting some of his own money into his war chest.

On Tuesday, the Obama campaign released a YouTube video that shows the president donating $5,000 – the federal maximum allowed per person – to his campaign fund. The video opens with the president sitting at a computer, telling his supporters: “First of all, I think everybody should know that I really care about this campaign and I believe in what our administration is doing and I want to make sure that folks know I’m not just talking the talk, I’m walking the walk.”

He assures voters that the first lady is on board: “I have cleared this with Michelle; I want everybody to know.”

A YouTube video shows President Barack Obama donating to his own campaign for the first time. His Republican challenger Mitt Romney has fundraised more than him for the last two months.

But the issue of campaign finance is no laughing matter for team Obama (which includes the Obama Campaign, Obama Victory fund and the Democratic National Committee) which has been outpaced in fundraising for the past two months by team Romney (the Romney Campaign, the Republican National Committee and the Republican National Committee Victory Fund).

The Obama campaign remains on top, with nearly $100 million in its coffers, according to federal election data at opensecrets.org. The Romney campaign, by contrast, has slightly more than $20 million.

Still, Republican-leaning super PACs have trounced their Democratic counterparts when it comes to hauling in cash. By all accounts, the super PACs have tipped the overall fundraising scales in the Republicans’ direction.

It is not unusual for candidates to donate to their own campaign. According to Romney aides, he and his wife each donated $75,000 to the Romney re-election effort including the RNC and Romney Victory Fund in May.

But for Obama, this is a shift. In 2008, then-candidate Obama did not contribute to his campaign, according to an Obama for America official.

Of course he cares about the "campaign".

Campaigning is the only thing he is good at.

As a president, he sucks.

Somebody stated the obvious--Obama doesn't have much more confidence this time than he did last time. Maybe he HAS learned something at our expense over the last four years.

Oh yeah Jean as to what expense? I still have my job. I get paid better than ever. My taxes are the lowest since Carter. Sooo what expense are you talking about? One liners such as what you put out, show, not only your ignorance, but your lack of education and also highlight your foolishness. Do tell.

You must be a nascar fan as your name implies. Your comment is also a reflection of your ignorance and stupidity of a comment that you attempted a reply. Your lucky to have a job, not to mention making more money than ever with lower taxes. Don't be critical of others that are not as fortunate or maybe less educated as yourself. It may come back to haunt you.

Obama gathers a contribution differential totalling 80 million dollars more than Mittens? I thought the rich were opening up their moth filled wallets in support of the gop candidate. I think the inflated story (only a Faux exclusive) where Mittens campaign is gathering steam as far as money support, is, again, a farce, designed to fool the public. The nice thing about this election is: the average American sees through the smoke and mirrors set up by Willard and his misstepping cronies. Too good to be true!

Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL

What is the point of this thread other than to inflame the already angry right wing hornets?

Willard who earns $57K per day, hasn't donated a dime to his campaign, instead relying on sucking his fat cat donors dry like a leech!

You and the liberals are sure not short on lack of intelligence. You definitely prove that. If you knew how to read, you would know Romney and his wife, have both put in $75,000.00 into his campaign. But you liberals wouldn't know that since you don't exactly have common sense. "Ignorance is Bliss" with you lefties!

He did claim he created the Internet and Obama is claiming he's creating millions of jobs for the middle class. What does it matter if they are in China, the middle class is the middle class right.

Its like Obama 's campaign including annual temporary and part time summer hirings and holiday hiring in his job numbers not once, but the four times they come around.

Then you have the Obama supporters claiming that Obama created 4.3 million jobs. If that were the case, Obama wouldn't be wasting money by running ads on the TV and Internet stating that he needs to create jobs for the middle class would he?

It's pretty obvious, by the comments on a number of blogs, that Romney has yet to get the trust of most. No Romney, you can't buy the White House, and the commitment that comes with it, because you don't understand the commitment that does comes with it. Your stuck in your shallow, 1% world like the rest of your greedy tyrants.

What you haven't realized is that Romney isn't Obama. And anyone is better that Obama. My doberman is better than Obama. The question I have for you is why would anyone support a man whose own words condemn him as irresponsible and a failed leader. Here's just one example of Obama condemning himself.

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies.

And the cost of our debt is one of the fastest growing expenses in the Federal budget. This rising debt is a hidden domestic enemy, robbing our cities and States of critical investments in infrastructure like bridges, ports, and levees; robbing our families and our children of critical investments in education and health care reform; robbing our seniors of the retirement and health security they have counted on.

Every dollar we pay in interest is a dollar that is not going to investment in America’s priorities. Instead,
interest payments are a significant tax on all Americans–a debt tax that Washington doesn’t want to talk
about. If Washington were serious about honest tax relief in this country, we would see an effort to reduce our national debt by returning to responsible fiscal policies.

Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that “the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America’s debt limit.

Sen. Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., (Senate – March 16, 2006)

$16.7 trillion debt ceiling with a national debt pushing over $15.9 trillion does this country need a better leader like Obama claims? Does America deserve better like Obama claims; you bet we do!

I'm waiting for the Obama campaign ad explaining why Obama is signing and has signed Bills into law that strip us of our civil liberties.

You know like the one he signed in January 2012 that makes peaceful protest a felony and carries up to a 10 year sentence if convicted.

Don't know about that, but I do know that as a Constitutional scholar, Obama has stated that the Constitution has out lived its usefulness. I also know that by the Bills Obama has been signing into law, he now has the power to retire our Constitutional and form a new government and there isn't too much anyone can do about it. I don't really think he cares if this country breakes up just as long as he can be head of his own country that will be know to the world as Obamastan.

He's so cheesy, especially for a black guy. It's going to feel soooooooo good sending him to the back of the unemployment line come November.

It does suck to know that there are a bunch of stupid people out there who will spend millions on his next book or pay out the %@* to hear him talk about the "hope & change" that never happened. He'll never personally feel the misery he's caused for so many millions of Americans.

This is the bottom line. Compare Hillary to Obama in the first clip. Then tell me if you could imagine Hillary and Bill saying what you see these two say in the second. This not about a party but about what it means to be an American.
