Obama donates $5,000 to his own campaign

For months, President Barack Obama has urged his supporters to donate money to his campaign, warning that his Republican challenger, Mitt Romney, will likely outpace him in fundraising. Now, for the first time this election cycle, Obama is putting some of his own money into his war chest.

On Tuesday, the Obama campaign released a YouTube video that shows the president donating $5,000 – the federal maximum allowed per person – to his campaign fund. The video opens with the president sitting at a computer, telling his supporters: “First of all, I think everybody should know that I really care about this campaign and I believe in what our administration is doing and I want to make sure that folks know I’m not just talking the talk, I’m walking the walk.”

He assures voters that the first lady is on board: “I have cleared this with Michelle; I want everybody to know.”

A YouTube video shows President Barack Obama donating to his own campaign for the first time. His Republican challenger Mitt Romney has fundraised more than him for the last two months.

But the issue of campaign finance is no laughing matter for team Obama (which includes the Obama Campaign, Obama Victory fund and the Democratic National Committee) which has been outpaced in fundraising for the past two months by team Romney (the Romney Campaign, the Republican National Committee and the Republican National Committee Victory Fund).

The Obama campaign remains on top, with nearly $100 million in its coffers, according to federal election data at opensecrets.org. The Romney campaign, by contrast, has slightly more than $20 million.

Still, Republican-leaning super PACs have trounced their Democratic counterparts when it comes to hauling in cash. By all accounts, the super PACs have tipped the overall fundraising scales in the Republicans’ direction.

It is not unusual for candidates to donate to their own campaign. According to Romney aides, he and his wife each donated $75,000 to the Romney re-election effort including the RNC and Romney Victory Fund in May.

But for Obama, this is a shift. In 2008, then-candidate Obama did not contribute to his campaign, according to an Obama for America official.

Perhaps we should ask Eric Holder to investigate whether of not Obama borrowed the 5K from the Chinese before giving it away on another useless cause?

Is "team Obama" still accepting illegal campaign contributions from non-citizens like they did in the last election?

There isn't any such thing that there are illegal contributions now that the Republican Supreme court has been bought and paid for. Now Karl Rove and his goons can get campaign contributions from anywhere. I hear Osama Bin laden was a big contributor to Karl Rove but that source has since dried up. Of course this was just a rumor :]

Apparently you don't know the law regarding legal contributions. Not surprising considering you are "team Obama" supporter.

President Obama has the right to donate what he wants. How much has Rmoney donated to himself. Why is this news? Afterall hasn't he got the right to back a WINNER if he wants to. I did hear that Obama told Rmoney he will pay for lunch when Rmoney loses but that lunch will be at Rmoney's headquarters at Bain Capital in China.

We now take a break from all the Obama supporter name calling and emotional drivel to present some facts about Mr. Obama's economic plans. Please note the highlighted portions if you are too stupid or lazy to read all of the real facts contained in this post

Here are the specifics on the Obama economic plan to go along with his big government as the center of the universe agenda.

Straight from Mr. Obama's fourth proposed budget. Here is the debt he is proposing to foist on US, our kids and grandchildren:

      Table S–15. Federal Government Financing and Debt—Continued(Dollars amounts in billions)Actual 2011 Estimate 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020021 2022

      Debt Outstanding, End of Year: Gross Federal debt:Debt issued by Treasury .................................................... 14,737 16,323 17,520 18,471 19,398 20,363 21,298 22,218 23,125 24,051 24,984 25,918

      Debt issued by other agencies ........................................... 27 28 28 29 29 28 28 27 27 26 24 22 Total,

      gross Federal debt .............................................. 14,764 16,351 17,548 18,500 19,427 20,392 21,326 22,245 23,152 24,077 25,008 25,940

Almost $26 Trillion in debt at 75% of GDP proposed /projected by Mr. Obama. UNSUSTAINABLE! And we all know that in actual practice it will turn out to be a lot higher if Obama is returned to office. And on July 16, on Morning Joe, Mr. Obama's spokesperson, Rep. Jim Clyburn(D), admitted that the Obama plan necessarily will require middle class tax hikes in the years going forward after the election, in order to pay for the deficit spending and debt laden Obama plan. Which is why Mr. Obama is only proposing a ONE YEAR extension of the current middle class tax rates.

And please, when you see Mr. Obama on the campaign trail, ask him how much yearly revenue he perceives his proposed tax hike on those making over $200,000.00/$250,000.00 per couple (projected to raise $60 to 70 billion)will raise, and how that will even come close to his proposed $1.3 Trillion per year in deficit spending and debt building.

Too bad Mr. Obama can't discuss his budget plan with the American people. He knows it will be rejected, so he is busy playing with smoke and mirror attacks on Mr. Romney and giving meaningless rhetorical speeches in the hopes of duping voters once again.

This is fun. Anyone who knows anything, knows that the President has tons more money sitting in PACs and in other interest groups to use for his campaign than the other guy. He is only doing this because it is making him look bad that his $200 donors have abandoned him and the big media play that the other guy is getting all kinds of money from super wealthy people is pretty much untrue and not working for the President. I believe it is what my mom used to call "giving someone the poor mouth" when you really didn't need anything.

That's why it was such a big deal making sure Michelle approved of it. Surely, BO will have to pay her back in some way

BTW, what's the big deal about his personal $5,000 when he has already placed the nation another $5 Trillion (total $16 Trillion to date) in further debt with plans to make the debt grow to $26 Trillion at 75% of GDP.

I didn't see him making a big deal like that when he was deficit spending the nation into oblivion. Too bad he thinks more about asking Michelle to spend $5,000.00 than he does about asking the American people how they feel about deficit spending to the yearly tune of $1.3 Trillion at a clip.

What should really scare folks is that the Dem party.... which of course supports.... is spending all kinds of money and using the media to try a new form of advertising that focuses on working on peoples brain chemicals. Used to be advertising would do things like show a bikini girl with a product to get people out of their chairs to get one so they could be assiciated with the product. This new stuff stimulates the subconscience brain over and over until a chemical internal reaction occurs to certain stimulus. The person becomes unaware of their reactions. They studied a lot of drug addicts, dogs, and MRI's to figure this new mind control program out. Think about it, a crack addict knows crack is terrible for them, but they still want it because inside they have chemical brain reactions going on that tell them it is good for them. They even defend it. If someone told you every day, several times a day that your child was a compulsive puppy torturer and killer and they showed you pictures of sick puppies along with the statements.... Even though you know your child does not do that, and you love your child very much... eventually internally you would start to react to your child in a whole new way. Oh well.

That's the greatness of our society, anyone with money can give to any cause whether it be political or humanitarism. Now is the time for Romney's family to give $5,000 each to keep the cause going. We must take back the White House or else Obama will continue to spend like their is no tomorrow. On another note, exactly who paid for the $6800 sweater Michelle wore in London. Now that is getting to the common man....

        Reply#119 - Wed Aug 1, 2012 11:39 AM EDT

oh Michelle.... and she brought a handful of souveniers from the WH gift shop to bring as gifts to the Royal family. She wore a $7000 dress to a garden party given by that princess girl while all the other people were wearing casual clothes because she thought she was too good to go by what the invitation said. She reached out and patted the queen on the back, walked in front of her, and wore a $10000 dress to dinner that showed her stuff even though their protocol was not to show any stuff with the queen. This was because she refused to listen to protocol instructions. After they got onto her about it, she wore an even worse dress the next night just to show them who was boss. She said she didn't have to adhere to Brittish protocol when asked about it. She just didn't get it. Like a bad uncle who comes over and raids your fridge and goes through your wifes underwear drawer.

She shoves broccoli down our childrens throats while everyone who knows her says she is compulsively addicted to fried food. This stuff is all most fun because it is true. She directed her staff to find ways to make her look good to veterans after her statements like "I am tired of talking about veterans and wars, we have important social issues to address. She claims to support vets all the time in little sound bites, but the truth is she has been asked many many times to visit military medical hospitals and VA hospitals, but she always declines and sends that 10 second video soundbite that they can use if they like. And remember, she got P.O.d the first year when she found out the President had to attend the laying of the wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier, and they couldn't change the date because she wanted to go on the weekend vacation. She took off with the kids, they sent air force one back to gather up the Pres to go immediately after the ceremony. And don't forget her being caught on the dudes cell phone looking disgusted while attending an historic flag raising and turning to the woman sitting next to her and saying "all this for a stupid fu**** flag". Or how about her saying we have too many holidays and traditions like .... thanksgiving. Or when she got mad after she found out that she couldn't turn the Lincoln bedroom into a play room for the kids. Or when she got mad after she found out she couldn't take down the historic artwork and replace it with her own modern art preferences. Or, or, or........ Now she is at the Olympics having a great time representing us on the taxpayers dime........

Oh, they all got their letters from the Assistant Attorney General warning them about their confidentiality agreements and the potential for a life in prison..... She's not mean and rude... she's just tough. Ok. Whew, this has been fun.

Wait, wait, wait..... remember the big stinky the media was making about how the Pres was snubbed by not being invited to that royal wedding thing. And then Michelle made some kind of race related comment about it which they had to backtrack with the "mis-spkoke" idea that her hubby uses all the time. Finally the Britts who rarely reply to nonsense, made the short public statement that no political or government figureheads were invited as they wanted to keep it a family affair, and something for the people. Oooops, dropped out of the media attention like a rock.

He needs the under $200 supporters to donate because they have abandoned him, and it is a fact of psychology that if you can get someone to take time and donate even $1, they will in turn get out and vote. He does not need the campaign money as he has tons more than Mitt. Hey, why did I get a little message from MSN that it was ok to post opinions, but not ok to question their journalistic integrity???? Nutty world out there.
