Obama donates $5,000 to his own campaign

For months, President Barack Obama has urged his supporters to donate money to his campaign, warning that his Republican challenger, Mitt Romney, will likely outpace him in fundraising. Now, for the first time this election cycle, Obama is putting some of his own money into his war chest.

On Tuesday, the Obama campaign released a YouTube video that shows the president donating $5,000 – the federal maximum allowed per person – to his campaign fund. The video opens with the president sitting at a computer, telling his supporters: “First of all, I think everybody should know that I really care about this campaign and I believe in what our administration is doing and I want to make sure that folks know I’m not just talking the talk, I’m walking the walk.”

He assures voters that the first lady is on board: “I have cleared this with Michelle; I want everybody to know.”

A YouTube video shows President Barack Obama donating to his own campaign for the first time. His Republican challenger Mitt Romney has fundraised more than him for the last two months.

But the issue of campaign finance is no laughing matter for team Obama (which includes the Obama Campaign, Obama Victory fund and the Democratic National Committee) which has been outpaced in fundraising for the past two months by team Romney (the Romney Campaign, the Republican National Committee and the Republican National Committee Victory Fund).

The Obama campaign remains on top, with nearly $100 million in its coffers, according to federal election data at opensecrets.org. The Romney campaign, by contrast, has slightly more than $20 million.

Still, Republican-leaning super PACs have trounced their Democratic counterparts when it comes to hauling in cash. By all accounts, the super PACs have tipped the overall fundraising scales in the Republicans’ direction.

It is not unusual for candidates to donate to their own campaign. According to Romney aides, he and his wife each donated $75,000 to the Romney re-election effort including the RNC and Romney Victory Fund in May.

But for Obama, this is a shift. In 2008, then-candidate Obama did not contribute to his campaign, according to an Obama for America official.

SO?

What is the point of this thread other than to inflame the already angry right wing hornets?

Willard who earns $57K per day, hasn't donated a dime to his campaign, instead relying on sucking his fat cat donors dry like a leech!

Remember, everything comes at a price...

Obama donates $5,000 to his own campaign

As the right screams "And what does he want for it?... Isn't this illegal? Did he provide his birth certificate first? Will he NOT deduct it, yet report it as income? What's he up to here? Must be evil... somehow." (Joke)

How do you keep a right wing pundit quiet and confused for 6 months?... Donate to yourself... it'll take them six months to spin this one! (Joke)

I'm pretty sure Romney has him beat on this one, although he probably did it anonymously to avoid criticism. (Joke)

Hidden Swiss Bank accounts, Slush-funds to "Laundry" Mitt Romney's money in the Cayman Islands, and of course all those "lost" Tax-returns. What's Mitt Romney hiding? We already know he Outsources good old American jobs to China and Mexico. Maybe in those "lost" Tax-returns of Mitt Romny, we'd find his shady financial dealings with known, or unknown, Middle Eastern Terrorist groups. Who knows?

And taking your wife's Olymic show Horse off as a Tax-deduction by calling it a Therapy Horse? Is that even Legal. I think it's sick.

Taking your wife's Olympic Show Horse off as a Tax deduction by calling it a "THERAPY HORSE", shows a Major CHARACTER SHORTCOMING in Mitt Romney's Character. You and I, and 99% of the population couldn't and wouldn't take off that phony deduction. I'm Not sure if it's even Legal. It's definitely NOT a very MANLY thing to do, now is it? Mitt Romney has a CHARACTER PROBLEM with his shady Financial dealings Wouldn't all you posters and bloggers agree? Of course you would.

And how does one "RETIRE RETROACTIVELY" to AVOID Criminal prosecution, when all the records show you were CEO of Bain Capital and still getting an obscene Salary.

And what the Heck is "RETROACTIVE RETIREMENT" anyway? Can you or I do that?

Ido, nice to see people reward the Republican Party for doing nothing during a serious recession by voting them all back in, in November. The Republicans were banking on people blaming the president, instead of themselves. Things just come easy to the GOP, doesn't it? They say something and their sheep believe them.

The less they do in the GOP, the more people blame the president. Republican voters fall for it time and time again. And now as an added bonus, we have voter suppression in the GOP and people like Sheldon Adelson, who desperately wants a war with Iran. So he gives Romney millions. In other words, he buys Romney.

Mitt is your guy yet all he is is a puppet. So aren't the GOP voters. They always were. It would never occur to them to speak up against all this money or voter suppression.

Unlike President Obama and the Democratic voters. We don't want to buy this election. It's undemocratic.

Hey @Feisty - I guess reading comprehension is not your strong suit, of course I am yet to figure out if you even have a strong suit. I say this because of your obviously wrong comment that "... Willard who earns $57K per day, hasn't donated a dime to his campaign." The article clearly say that "According to Romney aides, he and his wife each donated $75,000 to the Romney re-election effort including the RNC and Romney Victory Fund in May." Not only has he given to his own campaign, between him and his wife they have given 30 times more to his campaign than the Obamas have to his. I guess Romney feels a little more strongly about winning than Obama does since he is willing to put up far more of his own money. Obama, following his usually pattern, is mostly just interested in spending other people's money!!!

To run this article as a news story is a joke. It is once again NBC finding any excuse they can to publish a story about Obama to try and make him look good. They need to start classifying these non-news stories as in-kind contributions to the campaign and force Obama to report them as such. To keep it fair, the same of course would apply to Fox and the Romney camp.

For over 3 1/2 years he has systematically destroyed whatever chance we had of making this a difficult recovery initially and by now we should be accelerating. Instead we're mired down in more massive debt, more joblessness, more homelessness and more helplessness.

It's time to send this inexperienced, incompetent back to the war zone known as Chicago where he and Rahm can continue to watch what Liberals do to American cities, ruin them. We real Americans understand your self-pity as you realize what a horrible mistake you made in 2008.

You voted for Barrack Hussein to pretend you weren't racists, hopefully you won't do it again and prove you're fools also.

By the way, I wouldn’t recommend you donate any more to Barrack Hussein, your ROI is horrible from 2008’s donations, don’t make the same mistake twice.

Tax returns have nothing to do with leadership, and Mitt has already released what is required.

On the other hand, I think it is telling that this thread starts with inflamed leftie rhetoric complaining about right wing posters, when none had posted. It looks like the first 4 or 5 posts at least were lefties ranting about the right and Romney, when the story was about a paltry $5k Obama donates to himself out of his millions.

Keep ranting, it's amusing. To see you all, what maybe 30 or so who keep billy goating about Romney, when your own clown has spent far more time golfing than he has with his jobs counsel.

Our President is a fundraiser, not a leader. He is a guy who gives speeches to inflame, not to lead. He complains, whines, accuses, calls names, ridicules, all of which are not traits of a leader.

And now his sycophants in the media are screaming at Romney in public in Europe, embarrassing themselves and exposing their rabid leftie lunacy. It is really something to see as NBC and CNN continue to lose marketshare because no one is watching or listening to their biased drivel.

Obama has:

Signed the NDAA bill into law allowing the assassination of any us citizen without trial (yes, I know it's been around for a long time but Obama signed it into law even though it's unconstitutional)

Obama has killed hundreds of innocent people (including 3 Americans) with drone strikes he has ordered in Pakistan And Yemen.

Obama has raised the National debt Nearly $5 TRILLION.

Obama has allowed almost 1 Million ILLEGAL aliens to become legal citizens (thanks to those he allowed to become citizens, they have committed 19 murders and 142 sex crimes)

Google Search "Dreams from my REAL father" and you'll see, Obama's father was a failed communist who's dream was to DESTROY America, at age 18, Obama went to a MARXIST school.

The President talks of "walking the walk". Well I want the President to "walk the walk" concerning his promises regarding the economy. Without conditions, to include any action of congress, the President promised the nation that the 2012 federal deficit will not exceed 229.27 billion dollars yet his own White House is predicting a deficit of more than 1.3 trillion dollars. Because the federal government is already more than 15 trillion dollars in debt, I estimate that this more than 1 trillion dollars more than what the President promised that the federal government will have to borrow this year, will end up costing the tax payers more than 9 trillion dollars to repay over the next 170 years. Our President's $5,000 donation to his own campaign is not going to solve the problem. I want our President to "walk the walk" and explain how he is going to keep his promise regarding the 2012 federal deficit. I want the President to present a realistic plan for the federal government to get out of debt. The tax payers need to be told how much all this federal debt is going to end up costing them. So Mr. President, "lets walk the walk" on the economy. All hail the Chief!

Hey GT, did not know that about the casinos and the tax forms. I have never been to Vegas and don't go to casino's. Never quite understood the allure of giving your money away.

Although, I guess some people enjoy it so more power to 'em.

WCA -

Look at it as a contribution. You give your money to Adellson, and he in turn gives it to Mitt. This way, you help Mitten's and have fun doing it.....Perfect huh!

GT - It depends on how and what games you win the money on. For instance if you win big at "Black Jack, craps, roulette and other table games you do not get a 1099G (gambling winnings) from a casino. Besides you can deduct your losses as long as they don't exceed your winnings. Winnings from slots, keno, bingo and bonuses from table games are only issued a 1099G if they exceed a certain amount. Can't remember exactly but it is around $2000.

only issued a 1099G if they exceed a certain amount.

Even if your winnings are less than the amount that generates a 1099G, you still claim those amounts on your taxes, right? Because reporting winnings -even if they aren't reported - is the right thing to do, right?

Black pastors group launches anti-Obama campaign around gay marriage

By Dan Merica, CNN

Washington (CNN) – A group of conservative black pastors are responding to President Barack Obama’s support of same-sex marriage with what they say will be a national campaign aimed at rallying black Americans to rethink their overwhelming support of the President, though the group’s leader is offering few specifics about the effort.

The Rev. Williams Owens, who is president and founder of the Coalition of African-Americans Pastors and the leader of the campaign, has highlighted opposition to same-sex marriage among African-Americans. He calls this campaign “an effort to save the family.”

“The time has come for a broad-based assault against the powers that be that want to change our culture to one of men marrying men and women marrying women,” said Owens, in an interview Tuesday after the launch event at the National Press Club. “I am ashamed that the first black president chose this road, a disgraceful road.”

At the press conference, Owens was joined by five other black regional pastors and said there were 3,742 African-American pastors on board for the anti-Obama campaign.

When asked at the press conference for specifics about the campaign – funding, planned events and goals – Owens said only that the group’s first fundraiser will be on August 16 in Memphis, Tennessee. But Owens insisted that “we are going to go nationwide with our agenda just like the president has gone to Hollywood.”

I bet he wishes he'd have held onto his money now!

6 Full YEARS of rule of the Federal government by Republicans.

Republican President, Republican Majority of the House of Representatives/Congress, Republican Majority of the Senate for 6 Years.

Guess what we got for those 6 years of Republican rule.

Two wars and a Recession.

In less than one year in office, the President stopped that Recession.

The unemployment rate started going down in his first year.

When Republicans learn NOT to lie, they might win a debate.

But as long as they can only lie to convince themselves that they have a reason to hate the President, they will always lose.

The Obama family pays for their own clothes. When you get rich you can buy nice clothes like Michelle Obama too. Stop being ENVIOUS and GREEDY Republicans!!! While you are at it, stop whining.

President Obama has stopped one war and signed an agreement to end the other war that were started by Republicans. He's proven that we never needed to start a war to take out our enemies too..

He's saved the Banks and Auto-Industry.

He's made it easier for people to refinance their homes if they were on good standing on payments.

He spends less than past Presidents.

I could go on and on about what he has done.

When you people learn to tell the truth, you might realize we need him to finish cleaning up the 6 year mess the Republicans made.

Well, at least we know that money will go to good use. Like paying off former Obama acquaintances in order to silence them, like Obama's half-brother in Kenya, or Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

Oh, didn't you know that Obama has a half-brother back in Kenya? Living in a slum in Nairobi?

It seems that Obama never talked to him since he became president, and never even lifted a finger to help his brother George Obama, until someone in the media caught wind of the story, and then the Obama campaign paid the half-brother a small amount in order to keep silent. Look it up!

And Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who in a recent interview said that he believed that Obama was still a Muslim (and remember, Wright knew Obama for over twenty years!) also accused the Obama people of offering to pay him 150,000$ to keep silent. It's all on tape and you can watch and hear the interview on Fox News. Thank goodness for Fox News, ey MSNBC... ;)

It seems that Reverend Jeremiah Wright was causing problems for President Barack Obama's campaign back in 2008, and now new details have emerged alleging that the then-candidate tried to convince his former pastor to keep quiet.
The retired pastor, who came under fire after an old sermon where he said that the September 11 terrorist attacks were 'America's chickens coming home to roost', said that he was offered $150,000 to stay silent until the election was over.
Journalist Edward Klein interviewed Mr Wright and included their conversation in his new book, The Amateur.

let see the maths of billionaire Koch brothers, wanted to give Mitt Romney 20 million donation. But the election campaigne donation law, only limited $ 5,000 cash contribution per person.

Let's see if you can guess what the following events have in common: a super-secret conference hosted by the billionaire Koch brothers; a concert with $10,000 tickets featuring Mariah Carey; an uber-luxe weekend golf retreat in Deer Valley, Utah.

Here the Question of 4th grade maths as follows:(those who can answer correctly win free flight, hotel, and cash for GOP upcomming convention .)

How many affliated party members are required to attend (including some trolls here, did ever getting those free concert tickets before) needed to make that contribution of $20 million to Mitt Romney, if a single ticket cost $10,000 ?

So does it matters ? what ever Laws,we might currently have ? its all

However beginning on August 1, or at the next renewal date, the following services will be completely covered by the insurance companies:

â– Well-woman visits.

â– Gestational diabetes screening that helps protect pregnant women from one of the most serious pregnancy-related diseases.

â– Domestic and interpersonal violence screening and counseling.

â– FDA-approved contraceptive methods, and contraceptive education and counseling.

â– Breastfeeding support, supplies, and counseling.

â– HPV DNA testing, for women 30 or older.

â– Sexually transmitted infections counseling for sexually-active women.

â– HIV screening and counseling for sexually-active women.

The greater focus on preventative measures will allow women to make health decisions to stay healhty and have a higher likelihood of catching potentially serious conditions earlier, and reduce crushing medical bills.

How wonderful is this for women and men who respect women!....Effective tomorrow 1 Aug 2012!

Either he's breaking the law, or he's using a loophole that we haven't found and that we need to find - and close. FAST!

I would hope you don't support some rich man buying himself an unfair election win. Even if he didn't get away with it, we need to remove the loophole so nobody even thinks of ATTEMPTING to buy the presidency using money. That's not election - that's bribery and outright corruption.

what happened, you are a liar! In March 2010, President Obama donated all $1.4 million of his Nobel Prize award to 10 different charities-mostly on educational opportunities.

The most money -- $250,000 -- went to Fisher House, which provides housing for families of patients being cared for at major military and VA medical centers.

The Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund, which raises money for long-term relief efforts in Haiti following that country's devastating earthquake, received $200,000.

$125,000 went to six different charities:

-- College Summit, which partners with schools with the goal of increasing college enrollment;

-- The Posse Foundation, which awards scholarships to "public high school students with extraordinary academic and leadership potential who may be overlooked by traditional college selection processes";

-- The United Negro College Fund, which offers scholarship and internship programs for more than 60,000 students per year;

-- The Hispanic Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships and offers outreach support to the Hispanic community;

-- The Appalachian Leadership and Education Foundation, which offers scholarships and leadership curriculum to young people from Appalachia;

-- And the American Indian College Fund, which distributes scholarships to American Indian students and provides support for tribal college needs.

Two charities were awarded $100,000 each. One is AfriCare, which offers programs in Africa addressing health and HIV/AIDS, food security and agriculture, and water resource development. The other is the Central Asia Institute, which promotes education and literacy in remote areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan with a focus on education girls.

"These organizations do extraordinary work in the United States and abroad helping students, veterans and countless others in need," President Obama said in a release. "I'm proud to support their work."

A White House spokesman tells CBS News that Mr. Obama is avoiding tax liability for the prize money by not accepting the award himself.

CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller reports that the president is letting the Nobel Committee distribute the prize money according to his list of charities. He will not get tax deductions for the donations.

Pat this is where you are sadly mistaken.

December 31, 2011 Obama signed a Bill into law that gives the military police power over the civilian population and the bonus is that they don't have to comply with Constitutional protections afforded every citizen of this country.

Last week it was reported that the first 3 Marine Battalions were being trained as police.

January Obama signed a Bill into law that makes peaceful protest a felony that carries with it a maximum 10 year prison sentence when a military tribunal or civil court convicts you.

It was reported that internment camps are being built in the south and that closed military base are being converted to internment camps.

In March Obama issued an executive order that gives him the authority to declare Marshal Law at his own discretion.

Max the national debt to the debt ceiling, shut the government down, declare Marshal law and what do you have? All the needed elements in place for a take over of our constitutional Government and the means to suppress civil unrest.

You might want to rethink your thinking as there is a whole lists of indicators this could happen. Why would Obama be signing all these Bills into law that strip us of our constitutional protections if he wasn't planning to implement them against us?

Sorry Pat but there are more questions about Obama's background than answers. Why is it that we know much more about Romney's background than BHO's.... the guy that's occupying the White House! How sick is that!

Both he and his wife are either liars or were telling the truth that he was born in Kenya as they've admitted (pre 2008).

Either he was lying in his 'memoir' about his frequent drug use including not just pot, but cocaine or he was telling the truth. What is it?

He was elected because of Bush's mistakes and the fact that he promised 'Hope and Change'... what he delivered was a slap in the face to the nation! That is Barry Hussein's legacy...!

And the lies of his administration are too numerous to list here.... we all are waiting for the truth! But probably won't get the answer until after he's sent packing back to Chicago!

You know what is sad about Obama? He thinks that by accepting a Nobel Peace Prize, he said he neither earned nor deserved, in his mind he's walking along side great men like Mandela, MLK jr. and host of others greats that have pursued the cause of peace and civil rights all through their lives. But, the reality is that his actions have pushed the African Americans in this country to the point they are worse off now than when Bush was President.

There isn't an ounce of shame in Obama about that fact, but the worse part is, he expects the African Americans to put him back in the White House.

That's what you call a rich man's arrogance.

Well that's a very strange statement to be making. I was on this board a week ago until 2AM defending the president against all the racists here who said that the president only cared about black people.

A rich man's arrogance. Interesting choice of words.

Pat

Obama is worth $10 million and he's been know to show his arrogance from time to time. What better example of it is his declaring himself the first Black president when the reality is he's half and half.

What better example of his arrogrance is the pathitic gestures he's making to the African community now, when for 3.5 years the African communities have been worse off under Obama than Bush.

What better example of his arrogance is that when he's before a white campaign crowd or fund raiser, he acts white and when he's before an African American crowd or fund raiser he acts black.

And what better show of arrogance is Obama's claims that he is working for the middle class when the reality is he is destroying the middle class with his destablizing of our government from his never ending, ever growing debt crisis.

Knock off the racist statements and go vote for Romney. The pure white candidate, who has not done one single thing, for all the money he has, for this country. Nothing.

He's buying the election. And on top of it, he's clueless. As are you. Vote Republican to ensure that nothing will be done for any of us (white or black) for years and years.

Can't handle the facts of what Obama is doing to this country? This white racist voted for Obama and was a democrat for 45 years who was extremely active in local politics for over 15 years.

Obama embarrassed me out of the democratic party because he's more of a Republican than a democrat with his bailouts to the rich and his Obamacare that protects the profits of the rich insurance men over the well being of the people of this country.

These aren't the words of someone who voted for Barack Obama. btw, the arrogance is with the GOP Congress who don't want to do anything for the black or the white or anyone in this country. It is they who don't want to raise taxes on the rich. It is they who want to cut programs for working families, black and white. It is they who want to continue to gut school programs.

President Obama is president to all Americans, regardless of color.

Send a note to John Boehner or Paul Ryan or Mitch McConnell or Grover Norquist and tell them they aren't doing anything to help the blacks. And if they decide by some miracle to actually help out those who need it the most, I think you will find President Obama 1,000% behind them.

Too bad it's never going to happen. The GOP are only interested in preserving the status quo for the rich. People who pay attention know that. And they are going to re-elect President Obama.

Any Democrat with half a brain wouldn't be supporting Obama with what he is doing to your civil liberties. The facts show Obama isn't President to all American or the African Amerrican communities wouldn't be worse off under Obama than they were under Bush.

You can't handle the facts of what Obama is doing to this country, so you strike out at me. Typical Obama supporters. Bury you head in the sand and if you are lucky, you won't end up in one of those internment camps Obama is having built.

By the way genius, it was Barack Obama who, in essence said "What the F happened" after the elections in Nov, 2010. Barack Obama said "We got shellacked". You Dems still have NO CLUE as to why that happened.

Better yet, why do the poor hate the rich? Without the rich, the poor have a non-existent Sugar Daddy. No Sugar Daddy, no handouts. Capish?

You push the redistribution thing too far and the rich start to alter their behavior. Altered behavior that removes available assets from the poor. It's as plain as the ears on an elephant, or on Obama.

The rich do not hate the poor. They want people to be responsible for their actions. Please explain to me why a gentleman in Tennessee can father thirty children and complain to the the state that he can only pay $ 1.50 per child in support. I tell you what, why don't you adopt Octamom's eight children. From what I understand California is broke.

Looks like the Rattlesnakes are beginning to commit suicide! The decision to pander to the Hispanic vote added 800,000 illegal aliens to the job market in the black 18-30 demographic where the unemployment rate is 40%! Now he's abandoned a major part of the leadership in his own black constituency... All decisions made out of desperation of a failed presidency and a failing president!!!

I bet he wishes he held on to his money now!!!

Romney 2012!!! Yeah Baby!!!

Yes, the $1.4 million prize money he told the world he neither earned nor deserved. Goes to show what kind of man Obama really is. There were peoples on that list who had dedicated their life's to the cause of peace and civil rights and risked torture and imprisonment for their cause and Obama took the money from them.

It's no wonder the world has a low opinion of us, they think we are all arrogant selfish people like Obama.
