NBC/WSJ poll to expand cell phone respondents

A note to our readers and viewers: The Democratic and Republican polling firms that conduct the NBC/WSJ poll have announced that the survey is expanding the number of cell phone-only respondents.

In February, the percentage of cell phone-only respondents was increased to 25% of the survey (so 250 out of 1,000). Now it will be 30% (300 out of 1,000).

This expansion comes as our pollsters believe that about one third of the 2012 electorate will consist of voters who use only cell phones and don't have landline phones.

Here is a memo from our NBC/WSJ pollsters

You guys couldn't help but poke the hornets nest... eh?

They're still stinging mad over last weeks results.

On the other hand, smart move!

Most 20 somethings do not have land-lines and tend to vote Democratic!

PS: For the record, I have never been polled or called for jury duty for that matter...

Hello Feisty!

For the record, I have never been polled or called for jury duty for that matter...

I have never been polled either. But regular as clock work every other year I am called into the jury pool. Sometimes I have been part of a jury of an interesting case. Most of the time however, I, like so many others seem to sit endlessly in the jury waiting room. VERY boring.

Don't forget the welfare leeches. They get them free gov't cell phones and that's Hussein's biggest voting bloc.

Funny thing is I occasionally do get polled.

I always hang up.

You get to know my vote only when I cast it.

Never called to Jury duty? Hmmmm. Are you a citizen? Do you pay taxes?

By the way, check the unemployment rate on 20 somethings. You may find their voting patterns will be altered a bit this time around due to the Obama Depression (Biden's word).

You know what they say, if you are under 30 and a Republican you have no heart. If you are over 30 and a Democrat you have no brain.

Many under 30 are developing a lot faster due to the Obama Depression (Biden's word).

"You get to know my vote only when I cast it."

Unless, of course, you happen to read any of the vast collection of anti-Obama rants he's posted on this very public blog over the last couple of years for all the world to see. Oooh, but I'm not gonna tell just anybody who calls on the phone and asks.....I cherish my privacy!

Spanky, you don't answer polls but post your opinions on a blog? It's unlikely you're going to sway anyone's point of view on this site, but contributing to poll data is actually a constructive way of understanding the mood of the country.

I've been registered to vote since I was 18, and nothing... nada... zilch!

I'm starting to take it personally! lol

Ursula, you do understand the concept of an "anonymous" blog don't you?

Pretty sure "Spanky" isn't his real name.........

Pollsters want to know way to much about you and they have your phone number. Why on earth anyone responds to a telephone poll is beyond me and it is exactly why I don't think they matter, regardless of who is conducting them.

I wouldn't take it to heart Feisty.

I've heard varying thoughts about how jury pools are created. Voter registration, DMV record, SS#; all sorts of thoughts come from people. I'm not sure and really don't care. Jury duty is just something I take in stride as part of my civic duty when sent my notice. But honestly, there have been times that once the 'duty' ends, I feel especially thankful that it's over.

WCA - polls are anonymous also. They dial a computer-generated number...unless of course you believe there's a conspiracy to target suckers who answer their telephones when a pollster calls!

Well, I think if you stay on the phone after the person identifies as a pollster, you are a sucker, or worse.

Guess that's not a conspiracy, though.

WCA, I have been a part of two polls, both political, in the past twenty years. The only personal information they asked of me was my gender and age. You ashamed to be an old white male?

Now Joe, I know your mad at feisty, however we have to contain ourselves and try not to. I will probably get insulted not by you but by the dogs. No need for names since they will answering the call shortly.

It's funny that I not a natural from the USA have been called and and served 6 times in Jury Duty.

The only time that I have seem someone not called is when they moved around so much that is hard to get a hold off. The other reason is if you are severely handicap.

Brochton, are you referirng to the millionaire welfare leeches like Romney.

You know the ones who pay a lower tax rate than most Americans but earn millions each year.

The ones President Reagan told to pair their fair share when he signed the 1986 Tax Reform Act. Unfortunately, today's Republicans have become so extreme that they disagree with Reagan and want Romney to continue to pay a lower tax rate than hard working Americans.

Shame on today's Republican party for following Romney's leadership to assault President Reagan's policies.

Anyone noticing a pattern on this jury duty thing. I am 61 years old, have been a registered voter since 1971, voted in every local and national election since then and have changed my address twice in the past 35 years.

I have never been called for jury duty. But that isn't the point. It seems like Redsux, constipated citizen and others are insinuating that only conservatives are called.

But aren't conservatives the ones always bitchin' about the decisions that juries make? Sure seems so. Just my view anyway.

    This helps how?

I mean, polls are polls. Only the most ardent people will answer the questions about politics at this point.

The only thing that matters is what happens at the polls.

But people will continue to hold polls and skew them as they see fit in their efforts to persuade people to vote for the candidate(s) and party they support.

Do your pollsters believe in unicorns, too? Are they going to be included in your sample?

    Here are a few facts-

First, the Democrat +7 turnout in 2008 was an anomaly- and most reputable polling firms, based on voter enthusiasm, are looking at the more traditional democrat +4 in this election.

That kind of makes your democrat +11 look pretty stupid. It also skewed your poll so badly it cannot be taken seriously.

Second, there is no data to indicate that the number of cellphone only users has risen above 25%; while there is plenty of data Indicating that the number of 18-25 year old voters- that is, those most likely to be cellphone only users- will drop back down to the traditional, low turn-out numbers seen prior to 2008.

So, what you are doingis compounding the error in your polling this month. Now, I wonder why that would be? Perhaps it's the only hope you have of inflating Obama's numbers?

Whatever- it won't change the outcome in November, any more than your finding democrat +2 in the poll published just prior to the mid terms had any impact. Funny thing- when I took statistics, accuracy was something you got graded on. Guess not in what is loosely called journalism these days.

    Nice NJ.

I still find it funny that for 3 months NBC "Oversampled" Hispanics and for 3 months got exactly the results they were hoping for. Results that would drive a positive headline for Obama.

I don't trust polss and I sure don't trust MSM that takes polls. They are tring to make the news instead of report/investigate.

It certainly is a sad thing that "journalism" has become.

If there were a God he'd be sitting back saying, I gave them everything they need for everyone to live successfully in peace but they ignore all my messages. They choose to live in ignorance. They choose to live warring against each other. They choose to pollute the earth I gave them. They choose to hate each other because I made people of different color and different ethnic beliefs.
I gave them the intelligence to choose another way but they didn't. I guess it's easier to hate and be jealous. I didn't foresee that. I thought intelligence would over come all that. I didn't foresee how little they would use their intelligence and give in to hate and prejudice. I didn't foresee how little they'd care for each other in the name of profit which is something they invented.

Black pastors group launches anti-Obama campaign around gay marriage

          By Dan Merica, CNN

Washington (CNN) – A group of conservative black pastors are responding to President Barack Obama’s support of same-sex marriage with what they say will be a national campaign aimed at rallying black Americans to rethink their overwhelming support of the President, though the group’s leader is offering few specifics about the effort.

The Rev. Williams Owens, who is president and founder of the Coalition of African-Americans Pastors and the leader of the campaign, has highlighted opposition to same-sex marriage among African-Americans. He calls this campaign “an effort to save the family.”

“The time has come for a broad-based assault against the powers that be that want to change our culture to one of men marrying men and women marrying women,” said Owens, in an interview Tuesday after the launch event at the National Press Club. “I am ashamed that the first black president chose this road, a disgraceful road.”

At the press conference, Owens was joined by five other black regional pastors and said there were 3,742 African-American pastors on board for the anti-Obama campaign.

When asked at the press conference for specifics about the campaign – funding, planned events and goals – Owens said only that the group’s first fundraiser will be on August 16 in Memphis, Tennessee. But Owens insisted that “we are going to go nationwide with our agenda just like the president has gone to Hollywood.”

Looks like the Rattlesnakes are beginning to commit suicide! The decision to pander to the Hispanic vote added 800,000 illegal aliens to the job market in the black 18-30 demographic where the unemployment rate is 40%! Now he's abandoned a major part of the leadership in his own black constituency... All decisions made out of desperation of a failed presidency and a failing president!!!

Talk about @!$%#ting in your hat!!!
