JANESVILLE, Wis. -- Campaigning for the GOP nominee in his home state with just 100 days before the presidential election, Congressman Paul Ryan said he is confident Mitt Romney can win here in the Badger State this November.
"We haven't gone Republican on top of the ticket since 1984 but we think this time is different. We think it’s different because people in Wisconsin are tired of the direction Washington is going. They don't the president's policies have worked," Ryan told NBC News in an interview Sunday evening. They think, “this is not the uniter. This is not the hope and change. This is a man who is dividing us, who is giving us terrible economic policies, who is growing government, who is growing the debt, and that just doesn't rub right with Wisconsinites."
And the Republican National Committee Chairman predicted victory as well:
"If we win Wisconsin, I think it is lights out for Barack Obama," Chairman Reince Preibus told reporters in Waukesha.
Addressing crowds at Victory Centers throughout Wisconsin this weekend, Rep. Ryan was joined at points by Sen. Ron Johnson and the RNC Chairman, who is originally from Wisconsin. These events – complete with an official Romney bus -- were part of a big surrogate push throughout the country while Romney is overseas.
"This is a national campaign. All these battleground states, what we want to do is get the message out, President Obama's policies aren't working, we need to go a different direction and we also want to thank all our volunteers," Ryan said -- avoiding the question if this surrogate blitz is really a tryout to be Romney's vice presidential pick.
Sen. Johnson weighed in briefly on the VP speculation.
"I think Paul would do a phenomenal job as vice president. Nice thing that Gov. Romney has a lot of great choices. So I've got faith that he'll choose a good one," the senator said.
But Rep. Ryan, who earlier in the day attended the Dousman Derby Days parade and fair where he participated in the 2012 Wisconsin State Frog Jump contest, continued to avoid any talk of being on Romney's ticket.
"I don't think it does the Romney campaign any help or favors to speculate or feed the speculation on this stuff so that's why I just don't make comments about it," he said when asked if he was a 'dark horse' for Romney to select.
The Wisconsin Congressman heads to the 19th District of Florida Monday to campaign for Chauncey Goss who is running for Congress before heading back to Washington, DC for the week.

Romney can win Wisconsin. Sure. He can also win a Gold Medal in bull @!$%#ting. He still has no chance in hell of becoming our next President.
Like all Republicans who retire from political life, Romney will not waste any of his precious time serving people. He might visit his millions stashed in foreign banks, and take in some of the local color. He's no Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton or Al Gore, who use their celebrity as statesmen to better the lives of people around the world. Democrats who retire from office continue to fight for those suffering, for the abused and exploited masses. Fighting for the rights of the poor and the sick is a mission within the hearts of DEMOCRATS, never Republicans. The Bush family has retired to their ranch. The Romneys will enjoy the finer things in life. Look not for Mitt Romney to serve, look for him to be served...and pampered....while rolling in the cash earned by ruining the retirement of thousands of workers...and from milking tax dollars out of the American economy to add to the Romney fortune.
Yes, Virginia, there is shameless exploitation in this world. You can call yourself a Christian and point to the money you drop in the collection plate, but it doesn't make a bad man good. Nor does it make a miserable man happy.
I'll agree with you on Jimmy Carter because he is a good man. A liberal nut job maybe. But he is a Christian and takes that seriously.
But Al Gore and Bill Clinton? They have only used their "statesmanship" (as you call it) to fatten their wallets.
Al Gore so much that he attempted to defraud the whole world.
Romney in a landslide. Get used to it.
Romney in a landslide, in your dreams, CR, it's never going to happen.
I lived in Germany for half my life. People there pay considerably MORE in taxes. But guess what!? They GET A LOT MORE for their tax money, too!
University education = FREE! All you need is qualifying grades. With average or lousy grades, no higher education, even if daddy's loaded! No morons need apply!
I spent 8 days in a hospital after a serious accident. Cost? FREE! Except for 5 Marks (about 2 Dollars) per day for meals, after 14 days that fee is WAVED! - That's that horrible "Socialized Medicine" you right wingers hate so much. Everybody's covered!
My brother and I went to Summer Camp for 3 weeks. This was also FREE, sponsored by local government as part of their education budget.
Although we lived in a rural area, a large indoor/outdoor public pool was built as a central attraction, with visitors from various surrounding localities taking advantage of the location. The entrance fee was minimal, because it was also subsidized by the local government.
People took home not much more than half of their paychecks as income, because the taxes were heavy. Nobody had student loans. Nobody went without medical care. Nobody was ever destitude, because a social network to help everyone was in place.
Tell me about the wonderful benefits of HYPER CAPTALISM, and the way it brought security to millions of Americans...focus on the LOWER half of the population. We already know that people earning 100k or more never suffered at all. THIS oughta be good!
And when they said "can" they meant he will.
All you have to do is look at recent history to see how the good people of Wisconsin will vote.
They've tried liberalism and, like every where else it's been tried, it failed.
What has failed is the trickle down economics. I lived in Germany as a child to my teens. Vinyl hit the nail on the head with his/her posts. I have not seen anything more then a knee jerk reaction from you CR. Knee jerk reactions are not intelligent posts.
I suggest you take a look at the creation of our Federal debt by Presidential Administrations if you want to talk about success. The GOP has created deficits like drunken sailors. Over 3 Trillion of Obama's deficits were the direct result of "fixing" what Bush II and the GOP did to our economy during that Administration's tenure. Bush and the GOP lemmings in Congress took practically balanced budgets created by Clinton Administration, and the then GOP, which put nation first, unlike today's "remnants of the Late, Great, GOP, and turned them into massive deficits, yet you chose to ignore those facts. Instead, you continue believe all the GOP and the Fox commentary channel tells you to think, instead of getting your own information from primary sources, or even bothering to read the various fact checking sites..
Simply pitiful.
If Romney wins Wisconsin, it will be because the majority of voters chose to leave their brains outside of the voting booth. Romney's solutions are nothing more than the same failed Bush II policies which caused our current economic meltdown: Tax cuts for "Job Creators", only Romney wants two rounds, a return of the Bush tax cuts for all, along with another set, including a 0% tax rate for capital gains. Then, he wants more "Deregulation", which was a leading cause of the mortgage, banking, and brokerage meltdowns. You know, anyone with a good credit score could borrow 400K, no proof of income, no job, no consideration of assets. How many jobs did the Bush II Administration create during his terms? How about Reagan, Bush I, Administrations? considering the cost to the Nation in Federal Deficits, the resulting job creation was minimal. How about the Deficits. Have any of you bothered to look at Federal Deficits by each Administration? Simply pitiful massive deficits compared to the 3 past Democratic Administrations. Bush II alone was responsible or over 5.5 Trillion dollars of deficits, along with an additional 3.3 trillion dollars of Obama's deficits which were driven, and solely caused by the Bush II and GOP Economic meltdown.
The result of 3 GOP Administrations worth of tax cuts for job creators? Massive GOP "redistributions" of wealth to the top 2%, who now own 44% of all the wealth of America, and who have increased their average income by 275%., but not created jobs.
To the same failed GOP policies espoused by Romney as "solutions" he and Ryan want to add an across the board Federal spending cuts, to partially pay for the additional tax cuts they propose. The result, layoffs in the public sectors, Federal, State, and local, which will cause the private sector to protect itself, and lay off more workers to compensate for less money in the economy. The result will be a new GOP Recession, as most economists believe that unemployment would now be 7.2%, had there not been a substantial layoff of public employees by GOP run states following the Bush meltdown. To that, add the GOP's actions in blocking all legitimate attempts of Obama to pass legislation to get America back to work, putting GOP, and winning over this Nation and its People.
The only way Romney will win is if the American people check their brains at the door. All Romney, Ryan, and the GOP are telling us is that "this time", unlike before, tax cuts for job creators and deregulation will work, thereby giving America a perfect example of" Insanity" which is "doing the same thing over and over again, each time expecting a different result".
The GOP and Romney have no solutions.
I am beginning to think that Romney is inevitable....President Obama now owns the economy, and that's not a good thing for him. People are getting tired of hearing "It's all Bush's fault," multiple times a day, every day. And his stances on gay marriage and infanticide have made him unpopular among religious groups.
Obama once said he'd rather be a really good one term president than a mediocre two term president.
Here's the reality: President Obama will go down in history as a really bad one term President.
Vote for Romney. Vote to save our nation.
retarded thoughts and logic
JOHN...
Are you overdosing again?
I believe BOZO's second biggest problem with this upcoming election is that, unlike in the McCain contest, Romney is calling him out on the misleading information that he is spouting in speeches and ads. At some point he is going to have to only rely on the truth, and he will be in trouble.
Show me the tax returns! CROOK !
Romney and his latest friend Ryan will be able to hold hands a long time after they both find out that America is not fond of Draft dodgers who runaway to France and his 5 sons also follow their dads steps as draft dodgers. There are many Countries that let American draft dodgers exist if they have the funds to buy off local political administrations. Most of the places also are letting the Robmeys dodge US taxes by hiding there money in their banks .Hopefully these same countries find a way to abscound with the ROMNEY LOOT.
Whos is Ryan, I am a Senator from West Virginia.
Ron Paul will cut the deficite and turn this country around!
America we gotta get tough because the anti gunners keep breeding like rabbits I sware. Maybe they recruit them I don't know but one thing is for sure common sence isn't so common anymore. We need to vote based on these idiots record. I know a lot of you are in agreement with me until I say mit Romney is a gun grabber too just like Obama. It's Ron Paul people and I will vote for him unless I have cold dead hands.
Ron Paul will cut the deficite and turn this country around!
Pigotry! If obama wins it is because he stole the election. There are too many people who have their hands in the federal bankroll. GM, federal employees, all of the new IRS hires, unions, welfare recipients, mortgage companies and all of those others who don't care if this Nation goes down. Remember Acorn...a federally funded organization original designed to get out the vote which over time became a apparatus of the Democratic party to get out the Democratic Vote. Let's not forget holder who wants to sue those states who want photo ID's to vote. What's that all about. I have to show a photo ID and I don't care if I have to. I am ligit! I can't believe liberals can look at themselves in a mirror. I hope all people vote to preserve this nation instead of their pocketbooks. The money will only be short term and we as a nation will sink fast. Thank you liberals
No problems with photo ID - just make sure by law that everyone, who is legit will get a free one in the mail before election day!
Voting is a right - also for the ones, that can't afford to pay for a birth certificate, driving to the motor vehicle department, pay for a drivers license...
GIVE EVERYONE A FREE PHOTO ID BEFORE ELECTION DAY - AUTOMATICALLY IN THE MAIL!
Only THEN it is OK !
Beverly in Chicago: You really need to have a brain transplant if you think that Romney is fit to be a President. He could not even be a fit President of a fan club. This man lies so much that he would not know the truth if it hit him in the head.
The computer software for voting should be monitored across this country by the Justice Dept and the FBI. WI is one of those states that should be monitored.
Show me the TAX RETURNS !!!
That crook lied and cheated his way into the Governorship in Mass before - now he tries to lie, buy and cheat his way into the White House! Not again! We know how to prevent that from happening! :-)))
again: SHOW me the TAX RETURNS !!!
Show me your information that this is true. it is easy just to say something without backing it up. Be more specific and explain yourself. Liberal garbage. Just say it and people will believe it. We don't need proof. Conservatives and the rest of Americans are just idiots and stupid. That's what they are. Quit the garbage talking.
The reason of the WI people has to wake up upon the recent recall of their own GOP governor. Learning from the flustrated experiences, WI people have to change to vote for President Obama, at least, for the women health care have brought to a new stage because of the Obama Healthcare Reform.
The next reason of the WI people have to vote for OBAMA 2012, for, at least, President Obama will not like the GOP governor has increased funding for the private education, but cut the funding of the public education, when the governor's children have sent to private schools; and at the same time, when the WI state funding has problem to balance the budget, in the remembrance of the battle of benefit cut of and the shut down of the union of the public employees.
The only way Romney can win now is by releasing his taxes and thus leaving that issue behind.
Mitt has been totally tongue tied in expressing himself about his core values, so he flip flops based on whatever group he is in front of. Here, he says a national health care system is awful and will repeal it, in Israel and in England he praised their exceptional national health systems. In praising Israel's central health care approach, he was also lauding the fact that the money is deducted directly from the person's paycheck -- a tax based health system.
I think he learned a lesson from his dad who lost his nomintion for presidency by making a verbal slip. Now, Mitt is so anxious that he makes disastrous slips on our and other continents.
The one core value that his father, George, should have learned to live by, Mitt now squirms under every single day. His father set a standard of releasing 10 years+ of tax returns, so that the voter could have their measure of a man. "One year could just be" a fluke.
And please some of you people, read more and listen more to news sources other than CNN, MSN, Fox, etc.
I grew up in the middle of Illinois, and from an early age was encouraged to read and gain information from a variety of sources, ranging from William F. Buckley to I.F. Stone, loved hearing Cronkite. All of which helped me to form a strong base of core fiscal conservative beliefs. Today in addition to US news, I read newspapers and magazines from Europe, watch the BBC,CBC and other international programs.
Romney is surrounding himself with the neocons of the Bush era, his new PR woman is the one who tried to put a pretty ribbon on the gulf oil spill, he beats the drums of war with Iran and "the Soviets are are number one enemy", and somehow he thinks this will help settle to world's stock market. Oh, hell, he is an idiot.
We can't put up a really good viable conservative candidate, because the teaidiots are driving out all the best and most viable ones who could get something done. When the teaidiot congress people say we will only say no until the dems finally agree only with us, they are nuts. That's like saying "Oh, my wife will agree with me because I will say no to everything she says until she submits -- yeah, try the no compromise position at home and see how that works out brainiac. Compromise is the only way marriages work, the only way governments work. The teapot nutjobs need to get over themselves. They sound like an immature five year olds....(yeah, I know some five year olds sound more mature.
One last point, if any democrat head of the Senate and came out immediately after the election saying that we will do "nothing" to work with this President --- there would be screams coming from heart of the republican party of traitor to the constitution, impeach him, draw and quarter him....you get my drift.
Where is NBC's coverage of the person who embarrassed the Chic Fillet employee which is making National News on networks who report the news?
