Rubio picks up vice presidential support from Iowa's Gov. Branstad

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Add another top Republican to the growing category of supporters who want Sen. Marco Rubio as vice president: Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad.

"Well, Marco Rubio sounds pretty good to me," Gov. Branstad told NBC News following a Mitt RomneyVictory event on the steps of the state house here when asked who he would suggest to Romney to be VP. "There are a number of others that I think are very talented, but Marco Rubio, I think, tells it very much like it is, he is somebody who has come up the hard way and has showed great leadership and he is now one of the great young senators from the state of Florida -- an important and key state -- so he is certainly one I would like to see considered."

Rubio, the freshman senator from the Sunshine State, was scheduled to address the crowd in the Hawkeye State Saturday night but was forced to cancel after his plane taking him from Nevada to Iowa made an emergency landing for mechanical issues.

"This is not the way I had hoped to do it," Rubio told the rain-soaked crowd via cellphone over a loud speaker. "I have had 2 planes today have mechanical problems and the last one forced us to land here in Albuquerque, New Mexico, so I know how to take a hint."

As speculation continues to swirl as to who the presumptive GOP nominee will choose to be his No. 2 -- especially after the whirlwind tour of top surrogates around the country this weekend -- Rubio's name has been mentioned more and more.

Rubio's plane makes safe emergency landing

In recent days, many top GOP leaders including former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, and Republican strategist Karl Rovehave publicly thrown their support behind Rubio. And Saturday night, Branstad made the case for the Florida senator as well.

"I have always been a risk taker -- I have never been afraid to do what I think is the right thing to do and I just think that Gov. Romney needs to choose the candidate who he thinks will be the greatest asset to the ticket," the fifth term Iowa governor said. "Somebody who will complement and support him and help us rebuild the American dream and I think Marco Rubio is certainly one of the people that should be considered, but there are many other talented people out there too."

While Saturday's event didn't occur as planned (and originally, Rubio was going to attend an event in Colorado this evening until that was canceled due to the Aurora tragedy last week), Rubio did give brief remarks to the crowd in the battleground state, and said, "I promise you, I will come back."

And, not all Iowans in attendance were disappointed.

"I think it's a testament to the enthusiasm that the Republicans have this year that so many people turned out even in the rain," John Lepley of Des Moines said after the event concluded. "It showed that people are enthusiastic and fired up. Sen. Rubio gave a great speech which we were able to hear on the telephone line. It worked out fine."

Romney will be nominated and Marco Rubio will join as his VP. Conservatives will be more comfortable and hard working, family orientated, American Hispanics will help throw out the Marxist. Romney will be re-elected and Marco will be our first Hispanic president in 2020. (16 years of prosperity for the U.S.!)

Rubio is a tea hole, that automatically disqualifies him as far as I'm concerned.

He's done some shady things here in Florida. Like using a government issued credit card for his own personal business. Walked away from a rental home he own that was in foreclosure, because he took advantage of the inflated mortgage loans....that ought to be red flag to all, but it won't.

I am from Florida and since I dislike both parties I was considering voting third party but if Romney picks Rubio as VP I'll do something I have only done once in 40 years and that's vote for a Democrat. Not only that, I will volunteer to drive democratic voters to the polls if they need a way to get there. Rubio is a Tea Bagger and a liar. He does kind of fit the GOP ticket though, the crown jewel on the monument to hypocrisy. I'm not pleased with the current administration but I can't understand why so many people have bought into the GOP propaganda and are willing to throw America under the church bus so that Angry greedy old white men can get richer. Sheep get fleeced. I hope you enjoy your serfdom.

Murphy Andrew, I can infer by your commentary that you're way ahead of the "dumbing down of America" curve. You proudly exhibit exactly the type of behavior both Romney and Rubio want in Americans, blindly ingnorant, unswervingly loyal and completely incapable of rational, independent thought.

Braindead, Isn't he the Iowa governor who got the state of Iowa to loan his brother hundreds of thousands of dollars on farm loans and then got them forgiven when in office the first time. Hopefully his endorsement for Rubio will not help him at all, maybe even hurt his chances. Rubio isn't VP material anyway, he wouldn't know what to do if he inherited the office of President. Probably lie us into another war like his republican brother bush did. We need honest people for this office, not someone just to get the Latino vote. Beware Latino's this man doesn't have your best interests in his heart or words. All the tea partiers should go jump in the Bay with the tea. Good riddance

Reguardless of who runs with Romney, the country can't absorb another 4 years of Obama. the country is almost up to 50% of people sitting at home collecting goverment handouts. Why would anyone want to work when you can sit at home and be taken care of, but the problem with that is sooner or later (more than likely sooner) the earners will cut and run with the money they have worked for and leave, and then who will be paying for the handouts then? Look at Greece, their country produces nothing, almost where the US is now, the only difference is, we can print more money and they can't.

So you rather put someone in office to put back in place those same policies that got us into this mess than keep the person who's policies have reversed the HUGE job losses, recovered 3.8 million of the jobs lost as a result of past issues, officially ended the recession, etc.? How would that make any economic sense?

Yes, it's true we are not where we want to be with respect to job growth and GDP. But combining the past policies with the current global financial issues we would be significantly worse off.

And frankly, I would rather work. By working I bring home more money than the government handout provides. Plus there's that honorable and ethical consideration about not asking others to take care of me when I am fully capable of doing it myself.

And I thought McCain's staffers screwed up by not properly vetting Palin, this makes that gaffe seem inconsequential by comparison. What in the hell are the GOP thinking, another game-changer? Are they really that desperate or do they simply lack the ability to nominate a reasonable, moderate candidate?

When Gov. Branstad gets the nomination he can endorse a Veep. Until then he should endorse whoever Willard picks. Frankly I don't see anyone who could help Willard but some who could hinder him. Rubio would neither help nor hurt him. Hispanics wouldn't buy Rubio and most of the rest of the country really doesn't know the kid (Rubio). Of course, most didn't know Sarah Palin either but that didn't stop Mc Fossil from picking her.

Cheney says Palin was a bad choice for VP, because she couldn't qualify for the first question....is she ready to run the country. Just shows you what a big hypocrite he is. He supported gay marriage, but had to wait until he was out of office to say so. Now this.....Guess what? I don't think Rubio qualifies either, but Romney will choose him because he thinks he'll get the Hispanic vote....Hate to tell him, but most polls don't agree with that. While Rubio may qualify someday, he couldn't even pay the mortgage on some rental property and he's going to balance the budget...what a joke. But, of course, people supporting Romney is a joke too.

If America can elect him then it will have no problem with a man whose tax returns have beenn accepted by the IRS as valid and legal.

Barry Soetoro is a fraud and the American people elected him into the highest office of the United States.

That is why Obama's birth certificate is a fake. Because his real name is Barry Soetoro. Can anyone explain the descrepancy?

Watch these two sites and then tell me why we would want these two in the White House! Compare Hillary to the Marxist in the first one and then tell me that Bill and CLinton would say what they said on that second site.

Bush and the Republicans fault, huh? Read this and then let's here what you Dems and libs have to say. Probably all you will do is hurl insults and vile comments because YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH.

                            The day the democrats
took over was not January 22nd 2009, it was actually January 3rd 2007 the day
the Democrats took over the House of Representatives and the Senate, at the
very start of the 110th Congress.

                            The Democrat Party
controlled a majority in both chambers for the first time since the end of the
                            103rd Congress in 1995.
                            For those who are
listening to the liberals propagating the fallacy that everything is
                            "Bush's Fault", think about this:

                            January 3rd, 2007 was
the day the Democrats took over the Senate and the Congress.

                            At the time:

                            The GDP for the
                            previous quarter was 3.5%

                            The Unemployment rate
                            was 4.6%Geo
                            rge Bush's Economic
policies SET A RECORD of 52 STRAIGHT MONTHS of JOB GROWTH
                            Remember the day...

                            January 3rd, 2007 was
the day that Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services Committee and
Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee.

                            The economic meltdown
that happened 15 months later was in what part of the economy?

                            BANKING AND FINANCIAL
                            SERVICES!

                            Unemployment... To
this CRISIS by (among MANY other things) dumping 5-6 TRILLION Dollars of toxic
loans on the economy from YOUR Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac FIASCOES!

                            Bush asked Congress 17
TIMES to stop Fannie & Freddie - starting in 2001 because it was
financially risky for the US economy.

                            And who took the THIRD
highest pay-off from Fannie Mae AND Freddie Mac? OBAMA

                            And who fought against
                            reform of Fannie and Freddie?
                            OBAMA and the Democrat
                            Congress
                            So when someone tries
                            to blame Bush.

                            REMEMBER JANUARY 3rd,
2007.... THE DAY THE DEMOCRATS TOOK OVER!"

                            Budgets do not come
from the White House. They come from Congress and the party that controlled
Congress since January 2007 is the Democrat Party.
                            Furthermore, the
Democrats controlled the budget process for 2008 & 2009 as well as 2010
                            &
                            2011.

                            In that first year,
they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on
spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases.
                            For 2009 though, Nancy
Pelosi & Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing
resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At
that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the 2009
                            budgets.
                            And where was Barack
Obama during this time? He was a member of that very Congress that passed all
of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to
                            complete 2009.

                            If the Democrats
inherited any deficit, it was the 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican
budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight
decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of
spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets.

                            If Obama inherited
anything, he inherited it from himself. In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is
I inherited a deficit that I voted for and then I voted to expand that deficit
                            four-fold since January 20th.

So, what say you now? Nothing? I thought so. And, quite frankly, I don't care what you have to say about it, but hopefully the indepents and the undecides will read this and think about all that is wrong now and vote differently in 2012.

                            • THE GREAT RECESSION began during the BUSH ADMINISTRATION in September 2008.

                            How do I know that?

Because that is when Senator John McCain SUSPENDED HIS PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN to rush back to Washington D.C. to vote on measures to bail out Wall Street. President Obama was not inaugurated until January 20, 2009.

                            • BE HONEST!
                            • MAN UP!
                            • ADMIT THE TRUTH!
                            • It was Bush and the Republicans fault!

President Obama and the Democrats inherited the mess that was created by Bush and the GOP!

p.s. Your WALLPAPER post proves nothing!

Bruce, you obviously can not comprehend what you read. Democrats took control of the house and senate in 2007. Read the entire post about Frankel and Dodd, etc. Plus, your ignorance gets you the permanent ignore button.
