COLUMBUS, OH -- Even though he is not yet on the Republican presidential ticket, Ohio Sen. Rob Portman already feels the burden of delivering his home state for presumptive nominee Mitt Romney.
"I already feel the pressure," Portman said when asked whether he felt he would be responsible for ensuring the Buckeye State is red this November if chosen as Romney's running mate. "I'm chairing the effort here in Ohio and again I'm feeling good about things because there is a just a lot of volunteers who are stepping forward. I haven't seen energy like this in past elections, presidential or otherwise... My focus is going to be Ohio. And I do believe that this year, Ohio could make the difference again."
The freshman Ohio senator was on hand at Romney's Ohio headquarters to mark the 1 millionth voter contact in the state. He made calls and spoke to volunteers who he believes will make the difference in this close battleground state.
"We're not a red state, we're not a blue state. We're a purple state. Ohio is a classic swing state. And I think at the end of the day, the difference is going to be grassroots," he said, later adding, "The leader of the free world is really determined by our state."
Portman is considered by many to be a leading contender for Republican vice presidential nominee. One reason is the presidential importance of his home state. Ohio GOP chairman Bob Bennett was quoted last week saying the senator would give Romney three to five points in the state if he were to join the ticket.
Asked if he agreed with that assessment, Portman said, "I don't know. What I do know is I'm going to work my heart out for him and help him, you know, and I'm going to be chairing the campaign here in Ohio."
While addressing volunteers, Portman picked up on Republicans' most recent attacks on President Barack Obama's recent "you didn't build that" comment. Portman said he has read the speech transcript three times, and does not think the president's words have been taken out of context.
"I've heard the media push back on that and some of them have questioned me and said 'Boy, it was taken out of context.' So today on the ride up from Cincinnati I looked at the speech again. I've now looked at it three time," he said. "And not only do I believe the president was speaking the truth and it's kind of a -- I think -- a view into his soul and his thinking."
"What the president was saying to these businesses is: 'You know what? You need to pay higher taxes because you didn't build it.' "
Portman will head to neighboring Pennsylvania on Monday to stump for Romney.

Findings: Obama leads in Ohio 48 percent to Romney's 40 percent. Libertarian Gary Johnson picks up 2 percent of those surveyed and 10 percent are undecided. While Democrats largely support Obama, and Republicans Romney, fewer Democrats support Romney than Republicans support Obama. Of those in the survey identifying as Republican, 19 percent said they were voting for Obama. Romney takes independents 41 percent to 38 percent.

I'm not one to put much faith in these polls for some reason. They're all over the place, depending on who is doing the polling and what the questions are.
Just thought I'd share this poll regardless. Hope it's accurate.
I hope this poll is accurate also ....
Saturday, July 28, 2012
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Saturday shows Mitt Romney attracting 48% of the vote, while President Obama earns support from 44%. Four percent (4%) prefer some other candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided ....
If it is , it doesn't look to good for Obama at this stage in the race ....
Lucky for America ....
Independants are easily swayed when big money is thrown their way.
Rasmussen always leans Republican, so I'm not sure how neutral/accurate that poll is.
Romney is a lot of things, but "lucky for America" isn't one of them.
Well , we only have 2 choices ....
And Obama has to go ....
Pretty simple ....
I just wish he could take his massive debt and deficit with him .... "LOL"
Ben obviously likes Rasmussen but it's basically the same as a Fox News poll.
Hah! Hah! As Mitt Romney continues to Embarass himself in front of the World, people back here stateside are still asking, and will continue to ask, what is Mitt Romney hiding in his Tax Returns?
For all we know it could be his many shady financial dealings with known Middle Eastern Terrorist groups, at least that's the "chatter" on all the blogs and on the worldwide web.
Suspect tax-returns, Hidden Swiss Bank accounts, Money-Laundering in phony off-shore, Cayman Island shell companies. Wow! Romney doesn't sound very Middle-class to me, now does he?
And what's this I hear that Mitt Romney maybe has "skimmed-off" from the top of his taxes, the cost of his wife's Olympic "dressage" show horse, as a "Therapy Horse", Tax write-off? Is that True?
And please somebody explain to me, how Mitt Romney has "RETIRED RETROACTIVELY" from Bain Capital, even when he was still the CEO of Bain and stll drawing an obscene salary from Bain Capital. How does one even "RETROACTIVELY RETIRE". Is that Legal? It doesn't sound very Ethical to me, does it to you?
One thing's for sure. It certainly doesn't seem like a "very-manly" thing to do, now does it?
I see your trying to keep and old argument going. Nice try. Maybe you could ask the current President why is his college transcripts sealed away from the public? Get back to me when you figure it out.
Marianabreeze
No real lean there. Rasmussen has been the closes to the actual results in the last 3 presidential elections for the Nationwide numbers. It's all about figuring out what the voting mix is going to be. To do a poll correctly, the pollster must determine what the voting mix will be at election time. Rasmussen runs a survey each month to gage what people see themselves as and uses this mix for the month.
There reason you think they are right leaning is because the others often do not follow this practice. Instead they project what they think the turnout might be or hope will occur. As a result the other polls have a tendency to low-ball the republican participation significantly, They sometimes reduce the democrats some, but most often use an accurate to padded number of Democrats in the samples. Thinking that Rasmussen is leaning republican tells me that you are used to a steady diet of polls from ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN which low-ball the republican and pad either the independent or Democrat numbers.
If you Follow RCP you may notice that Gallup is leaning to Obama and Rasmussen is leaning to Romney. The key difference is that Gallup is polling a mix geared to reflect the partisan mix of Registered voters. Rasmussen is tracking based on "likely voters".
Registered voters tells you who wins if those voting match the partisan mix that are registered. Likely voter gages who is winning amoung those who are going to vote.
In the world of vulture capitalism, I'm sure there are a lot of shady characters.
Romney's trying to save his #ss from an audit and possibly charges -
That's why he is the only Presidential Candidate that has only Released Two Years of Taxes for over Forty Years (Save McCain - which doesn't count since he picked Palin and made himself electable)
It's funny Romney's running from Bain Capital, How he Financed the Olympics, His Taxes or the hiding of his income in his wife's name, His Governorship, And his Romney Care.
Romney is so busy running away from everything, he doesn't have time to actually run for "something".
Does anyone actually knows what he stands for? Other than giving himself a tax break?
dwighthuth, Not ALL independents will vote for whoever throws the most money their way. If that was the case we would be voting for the SuperPacs.......
Hey BigBen, Did you tell Bush to take his deficit with him when he left office?
Jerry, Why are you (and a lot of other people) stuck on the President's transcripts? Don't see how that's a requirement to be president.....WAIT he IS the president. Just curious.... Also you should know that there is something called the Privacy Act that prohibits those from being seen by the public unless the person allows access to those records. The same type of privacy that you and everyone else enjoys in this great country unless they are threaten then you want to get up in arms about them. It IS his right to keep HIS transcripts just like everyone else (including Romney) who has went to college or any other school for that matter to keep those private IF they so choose. Gotta love your civil liberties.....right?
I certainly hope that that the polling stays in favour for Obama. Romney seems like a total buffoon. He can't stick to any principled position. His awareness of where other people are coming from, be they citizens of the UK, the less privileged, ..etc., is astoundingly dense. Electing him would only confirm to the world what an easily misled electorate the U.S. has. They can be repeatedly convinced to vote against their own interests by a power block that couldn't care less about their well being other than to throw them somes bones on gun rights and erstwhile morality.
Want to know the reason Romney won't release his taxes?
According to the Romney campaign, he opened the Swiss bank account with UBS in 2003, and closed it in 2010.
now...think back to 2009. UBS was in the news a lot. Not only did they pay $780 million to settle charges that they helped wealthy Americans illegally evade taxes...but as part of the settlement, they released the names of some 4,000 of those Americans to the IRS.
Those Americans were given an amnesty period where they could pay the back taxes and penalties to avoid charges. If Romney were among them, then any settlement with the IRS would be reflected in his 2009 taxes.
He's released 2010, and he says he'll release 2011. But 2009 is the important one which he says he won't release. And he can't skip 2009 and release 2008 or it would be so obvious that even the tea party would start questioning it.
It sure is easy to tell which of the commenters have been the victims of liberal communist teachers....
All good points. What puzzles me is why the Romney supporters don't see any problem with the facts that when he left office as Governor of Massachusetts that he had his staff destroy all hard drives and printed history of his four years in office. On the last day of his oversight of the contoversial Olympics in Salt Lake City he had all correspondence and data destroyed and now he won't release information pertaining to his tax avoidance investments. Is this the type of person you want to run your country? somewhere around 17 or 18 of his staff advisors served in the same capacity under G.W Bush. You know the old adage about doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results? No thanks

Well , we only have 2 choices ....
And Obama has to go ....
Pretty simple ....
I just wish he could take his massive debt and deficit with him .... "LOL""
Interesting, I have to assume then that Bush had nothing to do with the huge debt this nation has today,,nor was he responsible for the huge job loss this country had while he was in office. I have to wonder just where you and others were when all this went down. Please tell me something the republicans have done the last four years to help this country in any way ? They to date have blocked any bill that would have created any jobs...and have come up with none that would do so on their own. Unless you consider more tax cuts for the wealthy a way to create any jobs...of course, Bush tried that for 8 years and look where that put this nation.
I was always under the impression that ALL politicans were elcted to work for all citizens of this nation....for the past four years that has not been the case. As for ROMNEY..HE HAS YET TO STATE WHAT HE WOULD DO AS PRESIDENT..except make sure of more tax cuts for his wealthy friends and himself. Maybe if he gets to cut taxes far enough he might bring his own money back to the USA...wouldn't that be interesting.
Unfortunately for Obama - we've seen what he has done!
The tax increase on the wealthy would pay for 8 days operations for the Federal governmment the way Big O is spending. Find a real solution, like a broader tax base. Everyone should pay at least something! When half of "taxpayers" pay nothing there is little hope of any practical way to raise revenue.
@bob-519223
.
Hi Bob. Just a couple of quick questions in response to your post (above), if you don't mind.
I have taken the liberty of numbering your statements, for ease of connecting my questions to those comments:
1) Just assuming this is a true statement (I have read and heard a litany of different arguments along the same line, all using different numbers and no supportive evidence or citations), ... isn't actually paying for those "8 days operations for the Federal government" per year, better than adding them to the National Debt?
2) Are you arguing that "half of the taxpayers pay nothing"? (let's just ignore the fact that the phrasing of that statement is an oxymoron).
Are you aware that employed Americans who do not earn enough to have a Federal Tax liability still have to pay payroll taxes on their earnings? (whereas the wealthy whose income is from investments and carried interest do not).
Are you aware that they still have to pay state and local sales taxes and/or state and local property and income taxes?
Are you aware that even the unemployed ,who are struggling mightily just to survive, are also paying sales taxes for the items they must have just to sustain their families through these very difficult times?
Are you arguing that the way to raise Federal Revenue ....is NOT by asking the 1% of Americans who now control over 41% of all of America's wealth, and whose average wealth has actually increased more than 27% since the beginning of the recession in September of 2007 and who are paying the lowest tax rates on their incomes in more than 60 years ....to pay just a little higher percentage of their income to help their country?
But rather you are arguing that the way to raise Federal Revenue .... is to add to the financial burden of the 1/3 of the former American "middle class" which has now fallen below the Federal poverty line since Sept. of 2007, ....and add to the financial burden of the 15%+ of American mortgage holders who are presently at risk of losing their homes, ....and add to the financial burden of the Americans who do not now earn enough to meet the threshold for Federal Tax Liability, ....and add to the financial burden of the Unemployed Americans who are struggling to survive on their unemployment insurance and Federal food assistance, and assistance from their local food banks?
Are you arguing that we need to add to the financial burdens of the greatest percentage of Americans who are living below the Federal Poverty line in 52 years, since 1960, .... by asking them to pay more, ....rather than asking the 1% of Americans holding 42% of the nation's wealth and whose tax burden is the lowest it has been in more than 60 years?
Wow, Bob, .... I truly look forward to you clarifying your comment for me and for us, ....and squaring your words with basic compassion and humanity.
Jerry D Williamson -- Maybe folks like you could educate yourself and graduate from Harvard magna cum laude and then come back here and tell us all about how the president should provide college transcripts, though it's never been a requirement and in his case obviously not needed. Aren't "you people" ever embarrassed for posting such ignorant things?
ivan, NC -- The rightwing have been living in an alternate reality of FAUX Noise/Hate Radio/Conspiracy Theory websites and chain Email propaganda Echo Chamber and Cone of Silence, perhaps on Newt's moon base?
dizzykat -- Also 2008 when he probably paid little if any taxes, because most of the richest 1% who lost money due to the recession carried the loss over to pay no taxes. In addition, Romney probably was not flagged for an IRS audit and doesn't want to bring their attention to how he got so much money into his IRA, and his use of gray market tax shelters.
August-506561 -- Perhaps the rightwingers hope Romneygate is already behind him with all the disappearing hard drives and Olympics records? Seriously, this is a guy who impersonated cops in his youth and can't stand to be touched, especially by common peasants. Romney's secrecy goes beyond Nixonian paranoia, the man is not mentally well.
Portman knows the only way Romney has a chance to take Ohio is if the voter supression works.
It matters not that no one has yet come up with more than 12 cases of voter fraud in the last 50 years.
First let me state rationally that I am NOT an Obama fan! I don't think he is satan and he isn't the worst president we have ever had ( really Fox8---get over yourselves!) BUT We can do far better as a country than elect him again. (( What kind of Democrat re-signs the patriot act????? )) HOwever, I have to tell you every single thing I am reading about Romney, the history of his vote, his lies, his corporate greed, just absolutely turn me off this guy.
Romney and his republican buddies will make a fortune off the backs of Americans if there is another war. I knew this before I read the article on his underlying support for Israel to go to war with Iran. I know it sounds like a conspiracy theory but I think the current republican party is a war machine waiting to collect the coins that fall from American dead and American taxes. NO one ever mentions the Billions that Cheney made off the last war.
MY hope is that the current republican party will die off and leave us with a younger smarter generation of rational, common sense people that will fight for freedom and the middle class.
I am now starting to look at Dr. Jill STein for my vote, she will be on the ballot in 48 states. I don't know much about her but I did hear her speak and she was brilliant, probably find out shes a wackadoo too. Seems they all are now. Its getting harder to tell the democrats from the republicans if you look at their votes ( not what they are saying)
Hello Kallie.
I've read your thoughts, and what I would say to you is that at least Romney likes America. Whatever his reasons are, he isn't a puppet for the leftists, nor is he a puppet for Soros. He may not have the best of politics, but he can be influenced. This man we elected to office has demonized the fact that we have American dreams. All of us dream of becoming wealthy and doing well in this country. Owning a home is the least of what we dream about.
I've just watched a political commercial that is supposed to demonize Romney. I've seen it a dozen times...you know Romney singing America and being shot down for having shipped jobs overseas and for hiding funds in the Cayman Islands. Well, the Cayman Islands pay a higher interest rate, and the democrats in this country think they have an absolute right to whatever the rest of us have earned. How many businesses do you think haven't tried to put back something and tried to avoid the Democrats robbing them blind? As far as sending jobs overseas, it was Clinton who signed NAFTA and GATT...allowing jobs to go overseas and encouraging what they called "Globalization." The great hope of the democrats was that they could make tremendous money from shipping those jobs overseas...they owed it to other countries to "share the wealth," do you remember? Well, we've shared it and shared it, and shared it and now America is going broke. And the dem/lib/socialists are trying to tax us even more. They own our water, our environment, they've destroyed our jobs, they use the environment to impoverish entire communities, they have outlawed the mining of coal in some areas...and while they will approve other countries drilling for oil in the Gulf of Mexico, America is forbidden. We cannot build new refineries, we cannot drill for our own oil, we have to be beholding to other countries for our energy. Which is also breaking us. And THAT IS THEIR GOAL.
Now, I know there are others running for President in the Republican party. However, at this late date, we would merely be splitting the vote...which would mean that Obama wins. I'm an older person. My healthcare has been hijacked, and my retirement income is in danger of being robbed by these dem/lib/socialists as well. They will not be satisfied until the home I worked and saved for and scrimped to keep, is in the hands of one of them...someone who didn't work and didn't earn it. We have to fight it. The time for changing of the guard is NOW...we have to go Republican to get him out. We have to get the old guard out afterwards. But we all have to be active. Before we have martial law and a dictator solidly in the White House.
These are very scary times. It's time for us to safeguard ourselves, because our leaders certainly are not. Even the Supreme Court, our last Basiion, has folded under whatever power this man appears to wield. We have to get him out. NOW!!
what a brown noser, Portman.
Not to mention he just TOTALLY AGREED WITH OBAMA...
Portman speaking about the bridges and roads quote:
Ouch...though it is hard to argue that small businesses built roads and bridges.
So the fact checked lies about Obama's statement taken out of context is all Republicans have....lol.
You'll need a lot more than that to deliver Ohio to Romney.
Eric
You are going over the line to the island of no return.
Factcheck is probably much more independent than Politico. Politico was started as a group of analysts by the St Petersburg Times owner, who is Liberal. He staffed it with liberals, then separated them from the St Petersburg Times.
Factcheck was started by a conservative who set up a conservative foundation called the Anneburgh foundation. But over the years the foundation's board has become filled with people who are moderate to radical left. Heck, Bill Ayers was on the board, and so was Barack Obama.
By saying
don't you think you might be having some difficulty dealing with the possiblity that things are not exactly what you would really like them to be?
Umm, no...he said fact checked not Factcheck. The first means that the facts surrounding the speech in question that Fox News and the republicans took out of context have been checked. You assumed he meant Factcheck, the organization. You know what they say about when you assume things right?
Party first, as usually...
Party First.
Self Next.
Country Last.
If he wants the Rep. party to win then get someone else to run.....
He sees what he wants to see -- a belief about the President that isn't real and an opportunity to amass power. Scary stuff, that.
Yes, let the "trickle" of "trickle down economics" become a rainstorm for the rich.
It isn't enough the wealth have 32 trillion amassed in off short accounts.
Eric,
Did you know that Trickle down was a term invented by Democrats? The sole purpose was to make the Reagan tax cuts look unfair. The Reagan cuts were actually unfair to the rich of all things. Yes, they got the same 10% reduction in rate, but lost the unlimited deductions they had previously enjoyed.
But tax cuts were not the only plan involved. When Pres Ford left office, Federal regulations amounted to about 50,000 pages. When Pres. Carter left office, the regulations came in at 75,000 pages. One of Reagan's other objectives was to cut red tape and he did. When he left office there were now only 56,000 pages of Regulations.
As of 2009, the number of pages of regulations had ballooned to 163,000. Obama has been adding regulations to beat the band. The ACA alone adds 13,000 pages.
This does not include the weekly increase in environmental regulations the EPA is approving. I was to the Henry Ford with my son last week. I was there about 6 or 7 years ago with my dad and took him on the Rouge River Plant tour. The Green initiatives were impressive. BTW: that was one of the reasons Ford needed to find money for new products in 2007. Bill had gone to agressive on his voluntary initiatives. Last week I was stunned that the federal government now requires every new plant built to comply to what Ford has done. Can you say "build outside the US where this is not required ?"
This does not account for the banking regulations which now tops 1100 pages to determine who qualifies for a loan. Obama may be offering a great rate, but very few businesses can get through the 1100 pages of qualifications to get a loan.
Eric, Obama & the Democrats have got to go. They have enslaved us in poverty because they are forcing their ideals on an economy that cannot handle the additional stress.
DB Akron,
So I understand you correctly, You are willing to Do away with Health Care for not only my daughter who is a full time student and is thankful she still has insurance, those that have pre-existing conditions not to mention free physical exams, Opportunities for those that are may still need help keeping their house from being foreclosed on because they lost their job when it got outsourced overseas 3 years ago and probably have a job paying substantially less AND LET the Republicans take office so they can deregulate everything back to where Bush 43 had them, the same policies that got us into the economic mess in the first place. More tax cuts for the rich, elimination of tax credits that the middle and low income people need. Reduction or elimination of medicare and Social Security as we know it, corporate greed by shipping more jobs overseas and pillage of people's IRA and 401K's again not to mention Global warming and the possibility of people losing their homes and property by imminent domain?
God I hope not......
Actually Common the country's economic downfall started with NAFTA. If you remember NAFTA did more to deregulate and start the mass exodus of shipping jobs overseas. Jobs that is that US Citizens lost to foreign countries where businesses could now claim larger write offs and foreign tax credits. NAFTA was a Clintonian creation.
The bottom line, regardless of what political party you identify yourself with, we are all doing our country a disservice. We are so damned consumed by the little (D) or (R) next to the candidates name that we forgo our common sense. I can recall Obama sending Clinton to convince a candidate to leave a political race. I can also recall a certain illegal immigrant Aunt with a deportation order for over 10 years being sheltered now by her nephew. The same with an Uncle who was stopped for DUI and found to be here illegally. We can also look to our southern border where the solution to illegal immigration was the posting of signs 10 miles INSIDE our borders warning American Citizens that the border was dangerous and to avoid that area, following the killing of a US CITIZEN RANCHER on HIS RANCH in HIS COUNTRY. And instead of securing the border, this POTUS tells the CITIZENS of this country to avoid a 10 mile swath of land that belongs to you and me.
It is also funny that NO ONE from Obama's College Classes even remembers him. Funny how it took so long to produce a birth certificate, but yet we want to grill Romney over a tax return. What I find really interesting is how we can sit here and talk about Romney Care, but don't utter a word about Obama's recent FOCUS ON BLACK STUDENTS. Really? So never mind the racism from the White House, since afterall the LEADER OF THE COUNTRY is supposed to be helping ALL OF US.
Don't misunderstand me. I don't particularly trust Romney either. They all have skeletons to hide. They all have their own agendas. And yes they all are willing to use us to get what they want. Until we do away with this political party bullsht and start looking at the most well qualified person for the job, we are all to blame for the corruption, for the lies, for the downfall. WE need to hold these supposed public servants accountable. Just keep in mind, there are no candidates that aren't pandering for money. $25k for a half plate of food at a campaign fundraiser? Just show me 1 middle class person that can toss away 25 grand to choke down a 3 bit morsel called a dinner. Yeah your boy Obama does it too.
How in the hell can you know what the 99% of us think, feel, or otherwise care about when you can't be bothered to host a $5 wiennie roast, so you can actually MINGLE with the people you are supposed to be leading. And here in lies the truth of the matter. Now you have the catoring of "groups" to speak for you, called PACs and SuperPACs, or you have lobbyist, or you have some other "special interest" group. Well guess what. THAT IS NOT how this country is supposed to be. We are NOT SHEEP. We are supposed to be THE PEOPLE. Those who are ruled by consent. The power of the government is supposed to rest in the hands of the governed. If you don't believe it, try reading your constitution, your declaration of independence. But we are FAR FAR from that today now aren't we...
Show me 1 employer that permits you to set your own pay and benefits packages, pays for your vacation, your travel, your rent, and all of your living expenses and lets you pocket your pay check. This is what our presidency is... And that my friend is wrong.
I read a little resentment in your fox news facts (totally made up & anyone with any intelligence knows this) that Obama helped out one section of our society which is made up a huge portion of blacks. Many many white people don't fall in that category, yet you are resentful. Being white myself, that even sounds pretty racist to me. But if you got your information from fox news, I am not surprised in the least bit!
Will
I agree NAFTA was bad...and I also agree that we should secure the borders. But the problem I have with your comment is that it demonstrates an incredible level of misinformation. You are clearly a "Fox-bot" because you are parroting their false claims and ignoring the real problems.
First...like I said...NAFTA was bad and criticism of Clinton for signing it is perfectly fair. However, the reality is that our problems started way earlier than that. They really started back when higher end tax rates were lowered, which encouraged business owners to pull money out of their businesses.
If a business nets a million dollars...the owner has to decide whether to take that money out of the business as dividends...or to reinvest it back into the business by expanding, upgrading equipment, researching new products, etc. The lower the taxes the business owner has to pay on those dividends...the more incentive he has to take that money out of the business as dividends. It's that simple.
As for securing the border...again...I agree. But again...you are absurdly misinformed. While the border area can be dangerous...so are the streets of LA, NYC, DC, etc. I have 3 easy steps that would completely solve our immigration issues...but I doubt conservatives will go for any of them.
1. End the drug war by legalizing marijuana, and maybe even some other drugs. Drug cartels are powerful because they can make a lot of money selling drugs. Take the money out by offering their customers a safer, cheaper, alternative...and the cartels will die.
2. Require employers to use E-Verify nationally, with stiff penalties for businesses caught not using it. It's sad that conservatives rant about Obama refusing to enforce the law...while they completely ignore that the AZ governor Brewer refused to enforce an AZ law regarding businesses hiring illegals. If a business owner actually thought he'd have to pay a $10,000 per day fine for hiring an illegal...then you bet your backside that he would use E-verify. If E-verify isn't very accurate...so what. Using it covers the business owner. Then use the money from the fines to improve the E-Verify system.
The common thread of both those is that you have to address demand. If conservatives actually believed in "supply and demand", then you would see the logic. But unfortunately, they only believe in whatever benefits them at the moment.
3. is a somewhat radical move...but I think it makes sense. And that is to move military bases from places like Kentucky, North /South Carolina, and Georgia...to places like California, Arizona, and Texas. I'm ok with using the military to secure the borders...but if we're going to do it, then do it. And that means moving the military bases near the borders. But conservatives won't let that happen either because bases generate a lot of money for the local economy and it would mean the loss of lots of federal money for all those conservative states.
DB Akron
Did you know that the guy Stockman that designed the "Trickle Down" economic system for Reagan has said many times on TV that it was a bad system that didn't work. He admits he made mistake. Bush #1 called it voodoo economics.
Did you miss all that?
There is no such thing as trickle down. All they were trying to do was to describe economics to ignorant people. FACTS: When there is a demand for products, business needs to order goods to make those products, which results in more employment. The products that the company needs hires more people to get the work done and the company that makes the product in demand hires more people to meet those demands, to sell more, to deliver, etc. That is economics. However, liberal/dem/socialists would have us believe that the Government will give us something for nothing. The government will regulate everything, tell us what we are allowed to earn, pay those of us who don't want to earn, using the taxes and the workings of business, that they have now regulated so heavily that they can't earn anything, all the while demonizing the business owners who create the jobs.
FACT: We are not all cut out to be the President or the CEO of a company. FACT: We need the company to make money, so that they can pay for employees and their benefits. FACT: When government over taxes, and over regulates business, the businesses do not long hang around. Then the government is left to continue businesses that they know nothing about, with people who are tired and sick of being overtaxed, and people who all want to stay home and collect a check free for nothing. There are food shortages, energy shortages, housing shortages....read Ayn Rand....she talks about what happened in Communist Russia. Entire families disappeared for having an opinion...never to be seen again. We started that already...we're not allowed to believe in God anymore...it's all about faery tales and we've been labeled terrorists. That is coming from the dem/lib/socialists in education...our children are being taught to believe this garbage. We let them do it.
Open your eyes people. Think about reality. Do you REALLY think you could run a business? Are you smart enough or wealthy enough? Why the heck should someone start a business and pay out all their profits to people who can't keep the business going? Most of us are workers. Some of us are brighter than workers, and we get in to management. Some of us have the money to get educated, and we are talented enough to begin a business. Do you know how many businesses die before they ever see a profit? Do you know how long a business owner pays all the bills and hires employees and doesn't see a dime in salary for themselves? It takes time to build a business and see a profit. Why shouldn't they be allowed to keep their profits? Think...if it were you...would you want to give everything you worked for to other people? We give to charity, now charity demands how much we will give. I'm sorry...that isn't charity...that is theft...the same kind of theft that 300 people walking into a Walmart and robbing it is.
1. I have heard in almost all Polls Obama is ahead in OH
2. Most Polls say Portman doesn't help Romney in OH ( He is assoc with Bush w and isnt Like Much in the state
3. OH is only important if Obama loses VA or CO which he is leading in both or loses FL (polls all over on FL)
I dont in anyway think this is a lock for Obama but Romney's path isnt easy ( not partisan just Math). Oh wait 30 % of the GOP doesnt believe In Math or facts. ( don't know if 30 % is correct but a lot of them ) see Bat %^it Bachman
Yes, most polls have Obama ahead in Ohio. He is only ahead right now because he is spending huge sums of money here.
Portman is not going to light any fires. He is senator because his opponent was so bad.
Santorum had a lot of pull with Ohioans but Romney is unlikely to pick him. I think Rubio would do just fine, he could light a fire with wet newspapers.
Obama is barely ahead in Virginia and his lead in Colorado is evaporating. Worse yet, Romney is picking up steam in Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire.
This election is going to be real interesting.
I honestly don't believe that Obama is leading anywhere. It is anticipated that he will lead...but he isn't as popular as he once was.
Obama's "You didn't build that" speech may sink him in Ohio. I just received this email:
Subject: Important message from the President
Please forward this email to two other small businesses.
"If you've been successful, you didn't get there on your own.
You didn't get there on your own.
I'm always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart.
There are a lot of smart people out there.
It must be because I worked harder than everybody else.
Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.
If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help.
There was a great teacher somewhere in your life.
Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive.
Somebody invested in roads and bridges.
If you've got a business, you didn't build that.
Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn't get invented on its own.
Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet."
President Barack Obama
July 13, 2012
Will the “somebody else made that happen” please report to my business next week so that I can take a vacation?
Sure, and since I got that message on the internet that "someone else made happen", I should have no problem driving on roads that "someone else made happen" to relive you. Quick question though, how many bridges that "someone else made happen" will I have to cross to get there?
Man, conservatives pride themselves on being soooo smart can't even listen to or read simple english...too funny
You can't fix stupid, you can only hope to contain it.
Yeah Superman! You did it all by your lonesome. Jumped right out of the womb and went to work without any help. Sorry Mom, Dad, Teachers, friends, none of you get any credit, I'm just too too Great.
Man 3 weeks later and Team Blue is still screaming in an echo chamber, trying to spin what Obama said.
You folks realize as soon as you lowered yourselves to trying to 'explain' what he "meant" you had lost the battle?
Man the truth really hurts folks doesn't it?
Yes, it truly does and you're going to be hurting worse than ever in November when this guy Obama wins a second term by an overwhelming majority of votes. It's going to suck to be you. So maybe you should pack your bags and move to Costa Rica with your buddy Limpaw.
Oops, that little note neglected the entire content and context of the President...But why would you Repubs want to actually tell the truth. With Mitt Witt as your candidate lying is all you have..
"There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me -- because they want to give something back. They know they didn't -- look, if you've been successful, you didn't get there on your own. You didn't get there on your own. I'm always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.
"If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a business -- you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn't get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.
"The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together. There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don't do on our own. I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service. That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.
"So we say to ourselves, ever since the founding of this country, you know what, there are some things we do better together. That's how we funded the G.I. Bill. That's how we created the middle class. That's how we built the Golden Gate Bridge or the Hoover Dam. That's how we invented the Internet. That's how we sent a man to the moon. We rise or fall together as one nation and as one people, and that's the reason I'm running for President -- because I still believe in that idea. You're not on your own, we're in this together."
Just read the following paragraphs, and TRY to be HONEST for a change. At least TRY! (It will give you a warm feeling all over, like the last time you peed your pants.)
NOW, if you take the words Olympians and other references to the Olympics out and replace them with Business Owners and other similar words, you get this...
who on Friday will attend the Opening Ceremonies of this year’s Summer Olympics.“For most of you, loving parents, sisters or brothers, encouraged your hopes, coaches guided, communities builtroads and bridges in order to transport your goods and services. AllBusiness Owners stand on the shoulders of those who lifted them. We’ve already cheered the Business Owners, let’s also cheer the parents, coaches, and communities. All right! [pumps fist].”Now that sounds an awful lot like what President Obama said the other day about business owners, doesn't it? Why, YES IT DOES!!!
Your long term political problem regarding the "You didn't build that!" misquote is THERE AREN'T ENOUGH SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS to make a difference anyway. It is a totally INFLATED subset of the business community. Rally them all you want, it's only a few hundred thousand votes at best....and their minimum wage employees, who outnumber them ten to one, will go decidedly for Obama.
President Obama said:
Imagine if President Obama said this:
Or if he said this:
Republicans would go nuts, right? Fox would go on a 72 hour nonstop bender on the evils of Obama's socialism. Rupert Murdoch would be tweeting in fear from the safety of Dick Cheney's bunker.
But those aren't President Obama's words. They're Mitt Romney's. And they aren't from a few weeks ago or a few months ago or a few years ago. He said them Wednesday, July 18th, and he said them while falsely accusing the president of having said that "if you've got a business, you didn't build that."
p.s. I didn't write any of that above, but I agree with it. I'd tell you where I copied it from, but then the nutjob TeaBaggers would deflect to criticizing the source and not the content. No matter who wrote it, it is FACT and TRUTH. Live with it!
Nobamaever,
If you read lines 7-10 of the email you received, you will get you answer you are looking for.
Bruce - Don't say that too loud, The Romney supporters will DENY he agrees with the President by making that comment, hell even Romney himself will deny he said it.
What most people don't realize is that UNLESS you are rich and can afford the startup capital that goes into establishing a business, SOMEONE needs to invest in your idea, rather it's the bank, person that has the money, family members, etc.....You didn't do it on your own and when your business IS up and running smoothly, hopefully you give props to the person or organization that did help you get started.
WCA, we only have to explain it over and over because RWNJ's like yourself were too stupid to understand it the first time he said it. I mean damn, how long has it been and you still don't understand it, even with a transcript typed out for you.
And Mitt Romney said the same thing in a speech he gave at the beginning of the SLC Olympics. So what.
nobamaever-6475940
Best you listen to the entire speach. Obama must have copied that speach from Romney who said all that same stuff a long time ago.
One has to wonder where Obama thinks the money for Government came from. Without those who work jobs, created by companies, taxes would not get paid. Without taxes paid by businesses, and all the regulations that cost businesses money, the government would have no money to pay for those lovely roads. This country was built on the backs of their workers, their brilliant, hard-working people who invented lights, who built the first cars and sold them, who farmed and sold their goods, who gave people jobs when they didn't have one, so that they could feed their families and pay taxes. The Government would not exist without those people. Obama, you have it all backwards. Not all of us has the capacity or the brilliance, or the know how to create a business. How many had no roads, but created them to get their businesses going. What about railroads that put down tracks all across the country? The people laid the roads, the government was charged with maintaining them and permitted to take taxes for that purpose. Government has gotten so turned round that they think Government came first. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Even the schools began at home, with parents teaching and our ministers in our churches starting schools to teach our children reading and writing and philosophy. The Government took it from us, but there is still NO GUARANTEE of education even in our Constitution. We have state governments now that the people elected to see to the benefit of the schools...and still there is no guarantee of education. And what I see of education now is nothing more than indoctrination into liberal/dem/socialist politics. Our children don't know any better. We all had parents and grandparents who came here and worked hard, and they helped create those roads, not the government. They came here with skills and ideas and in this country, they were allowed to begin to create businesses. Now, those people would have been told that the government said no.
As an Ohio resident, I have to think the only reason Portman won big was there was no viable candidate against him. The Dems ran Lee Fisher who was then Lt. Governor & was never well liked, known in the state. Plus there was a lot of infighting in the Dem. primary & think that carried over to the general election that year. But I'm speaking thru my blue tinted glasses as it were-I don't trust Portman tho he seems to be a personable fellow. Its that Bush connection that just irritates me no end & my fellow Buckeyes fell for it.
Romney, Bush-lite.
And Bush was pretty lite too.
Obama, Jimmy Carter... that's Hope and Change....... you can believe in......
Actually yes we can beleive in them!
They delivered! and under the present circumstances President Obama has done a good job with what was handed to him!
Carter was the one who negotiated the final release of the hostages in Iran, however the released was delayed ( by Reagan's transition committee) to coincide with Regan's inaguration,.President Carter and President Obama, thought that the Corruptblicans were honorable people and tried to work with them, and unfortunately we now know, that the only thing they care for is Power and continue to promote, Corporate Welfare, and the Military Complex
Hope and Change is now Mope and Blame
Mitt Romney should be one of the first to understand what President Obama was saying. His father paid his way through college and graduate school. He didn't provide the money himself to start Bain, the money was provided by someone else. He got a gov. small business (??) loan for $21 million in 1991 to keep Bain from going under. I think the Obama Camp should show this to the people and let Romney explain that to the public. I know the RWNJ's will still stand behind their candidate because to them it is anybody but Obama but the independents who can think for themselves will see the light
Why should he have to explain ANYTHING? Who are the Democrats? How many business owners and authors and wealthy men and women come from the dem/libbers? How come they haven't given you all their money? Take it from them, and then ask for it from other camps. Let's see them put their money where their mouths are.
It is so funny to see the hypocresy of all Corruptblicans (No one has stepped up to do the right thing and condem all of the bigotry that has been said about the President), now Portman's reasoning is flawed, but he has to tow the Leaders (Rushy, Hannity, Glenny, and the rest of the faux newscam), attack line.
In regard to the polls, we have to remember what happened in Wisconsin, people got comfortable and unfortunately were not able to inoculate voters to the right wing tv attacks, one thing that can be done is have a pamphlet/ flyer pointing out the big difference between both sides, and remind them that the Corruptblicans are going to pick a wedge issue (pitting middle class workers to against one another) to make them vote against their self interest.
We are in time to not make the same mistake Europe has done in dealing with the economy, cutting spending has made things 100 times worse than before, I not a fan of big deficits, however under the present conditions the private sector does not have the $ or the guts to help the Country and create jobs, however our Government has the resources to employ people, create private sector jobs, rebuilding our infrastructure will require construction companies (private) to build the projects, 1 of these jobs will create 2-3 other jobs, therfore expanding our tax base (which was decimated by outsourcing our jobs to India, China, Mexico etc), all middle class families will benefit from this, therefore more money to spend, helps the economy get healthier.
More revenue, time to start reducing costs in a SMART way, not in DRACONIAN way, as the Corruptblicans have proposed. If you want to see the results of their proposals, take a look at England, Spain, Greece, Portugal , present time, not to forget that thanks to them and their ideology, our Country almost spiral into a depression.
Remember the campaign Corruptblicans/tea baggers ran, telling the public at large that state employees were making too much, when in reality thanks to Unionized workers we have the 40 hr work week, over time compensation, affordable health care for unionized workers, (All employers who provide health care to their workers, at tax time they get to deduct everything) these benefits set the minimum standard, here what the corruptblicans did is attack the fair working conditions these workers enjoyed, versus the no so great working conditions/compensation workers in the private sector get for lack of representation.
This way they were able to hide; all the tax breaks they gave for wealthy individuals, corporations and donors, at the expense of the middle class, I can assure you that women who voted for Walker did not know that Walker had signed a law denying women fair pay (equal work, equal pay), and curbing their reproductive rights, privatization of public lands.
LET'S GET TO WORK SO WE CAN PRESERVE THE MIDDLE CLASS!
The reason being is the Tea Party is all about going into the past to try and make society like it was in the past. Without technological advancement, without science or education, basically stagnation.
The Tea Party has set itself up to be washed away from the lands of America forever.
America can no longer maintain itself with hand me down knowledge when it comes to manufacturing, farming etc like the GOP of old has done for so many years.
Before long countries like China will invent new technology that will far out pace the hand me down knowledge of the old America. The GOP does not understand this they think that if they pray and wish that everything will go back the way it was.
God does not work like that.
America must have better education so that better skilled workers and processes will be to be used to keep America at least in the running with China.
Don't listen to those who say everything was better before technology came along as they are on the out of civilization and are looking to take as many people with them.
The Tea Party is like hallway. Sure they are surrounded by their traditions but when they turn around they can see the impenetrable concrete slab that is filling the hallway that they have traveled down trying to bring back the old ways. They can neither go forward because of the same slab of concrete racing in from every corridor and will be crushed by the weight of such a slab....unless they give up their ways of old.
Progress will not remain still for those who stand idly by in the river thinking that the torrent of the future will bend around them.
We ARE the middle class. Who are you fooling?
Obama, Jimmy Carter... that's Hope and Change....... you can believe in......
Romney, Bush... that's War and economic destruction..... you can believe in..... There, fixed..
Says the guy who brought up Carter?
My dog ate my homework ....
No the republicans are planning on winning by blaming President Obama for the economic meltdown the republicans created.
After all 3 1/2 years was so long ago. I took bush 8 years to create a total crash of our economy and you expect with the republicans blocking anything to help grow America that it is President Obama's fault now.
If our economy was in another recession like all of Europe that put the republicans plan of austerity in place, then I would think that President Obama failed. The rest of the world would be happy to have our slowly growing in the right direction economy.
President Obama knows what to do only the republicans won't let him improve our economy with the jobs act.
Think about it, those poor billionaires, we were told by the republicans, would suffer irreparable damage if they were to be taxed a small surcharge to get the American jobs and economy back on track.
No money for jobs but those same billionaires have hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars to buy the election for the republicans that have promised them forever tax cuts.
I would have to be pretty stupid to believe that republicans cared about jobs or America.
Obama was born in the deepest parts of Mordor?
Now does America see who is voting for Romney?
People who believe in farie tales.
Fell for it hook line and stinker.....preciousss.
That's actual the joke, dwight.
Portman screwed up, he said there was such a thing as the color purple - in das Republik Party you never, ever acknowledge the other party. Ever.
What amazes me is that the people of Ohio would choose to keep people in congress that would rather the country default over a damn pipeline that helps no-one. The people of Ohio suck.
Every single person in Ohio .... ??
I live in Ohio, and for the most part, I have to agree with you.
I'm from Ohio and bent your mom over last night.
Only a repug would throw in low life BS comments in a political discussion and insult someone's (whom they do not know) mother. Your lack of class and intelligence is astounding but you probably think you are clever! You are nothing if not a buffoon.
Is Obama packing up yet .... ??
Anyone ....
Why would he pack up? You think it is Mitt the twits turn like Ann said?
What is in Mitt's tax returns must be pretty bad or he would have released them.
This is just like when bush was president, deficits didn't matter and just as soon as President Obama was elected the deficit suddenly became the worst thing that Obama had done to our country.
If this was President Obama's tax returns we were talking about not being released the republicans would be howling like a stuck pig. The republicans would have 129 conspiracies theories formed already about the reasons he wouldn't release his tax returns.
Mitt the twit said it himself, what is good for the goose is good for the gander.
If you are not a crook Romney, prove it and release several more years of those tax return.
You had better find someone place else to show her that pinky. Quit pissing by the building.
Carrollton, Ohio.
The RNC must be hiring amateurs for their boiler room blog trolls. I haven't seen anything of substance from any of them in weeks. I suppose that's what you get when the only thing the party stands for is cutting taxes for the top 1%.
Maybe the RNC outsourced the blog troll part of the party's operation and gave the foreign employees a few simple English insults to use so they wouldn't make too many mistakes---kind of like what Romney is doing overseas.
I can't think of a more sickening thought than Mitt the Twit in the White House. Anyone who supports him amnd his proposed policies are victims of the Republican Dumbing of America. Or maybe from TX where they've about outlawed the teaching of critical thinking. Actually a word come to mind - starts with an S ends with a D. You Mitten-man supporters figure out the word that describes you.
This is going to be big when NBC picks it up
Romney told the conservative Israeli News, owned by Rightwinger Sheldon Adelson, "Israel Hayom" that he is "very concerned" about the "Islamic Leaders" being elected in the Mid-East.
Romney's Comment Disturbing on many Levels.
Romney is saying he disapproves of letting people elect their leaders and Romney is tossing out bigoted comments about the Religion of most of America's Mid-East Allies in order to fearmonger against members of one religion. By the way, who is this "We" Romney refers to?
Also disturbing in Romeny's comment is that he is insulting America's Mid-East Allies as most of America's Mid-East Allies have Islamic Leaders and some of those Allies are even Islamic Republics.
Mitt is the emperor with his new cloths the republicans are trying to pass off as a real candidate. They don't want you to see he is naked of any smarts they claim he has. They don't want you to look at the fact he couldn't create jobs when governor. Just like 2010 the republicans promising jobs, jobs, jobs and no jobs.
Mitt the doofus twit. The republicans want to bring back all of bush failures and Mitt is the perfect puppet leader for them. Norquist already stated the republicans didn't need brains they just needed someone whose hand works good enough to sign the republican laws in place.
In the right wing getting rid of any parts of Romney that had any integrity the republicans have created another doofus bush.
All I see now is Mitt the twit.
Being from Ohio, while not necessarily agreeing with portman on many issues. I am saddened to see him stand up and tell a bald face lie.
Portman is now in the gutter with the romney puppet masters.
More flip and flop that is too be expected from Romney supporters.
America does not need presidents who flip flop on issues as such politicians are not able to take a stand on any issue other than their own image.
Rasmussen is nothing but GOP propaganda. Not one other national poll has given Romney a national lead
except an occasional day with Gallup. National polls aren't that important it boils down to the 10-12 toss up states and Obama leads in almost every one. Romney will have to run the table to win the electoral college.
To the President:
The taxpayers of the country built and paid for the roads bridges and everything in-between, small and large business's alike did that.
Taxpayers also provided the Government the monies to do R&D on new technologies etc. Without the taxpayer Government ceases to exist.
Jerry, that is EXACTLY what the president said. No one person built the infrastructure that we ALL use.The president didn't say that an individual doesn't build their own small business, only that they didn't build it in a vacuum.
As usual another Liberal that can't read and know what Obomber meant. The writing is one the wall. Obomber is finished..
He said just what he meant. Read or listen to it moron.
Are you looking for one of your teachers that helped to educate you? Or maybe you were born knowing it all. Or are you looking for the people that developed the internet, which allows your business to operate more efficiently? Or maybe you don't want your businedd to operate more efficiently.
PAWIII, Thanks! ''Better words were never spoken."
An still no tax returns from idiot Romney
.................................RON PAUL........................................
Portman is inconsequential. Ohio, on the other hand, matters. One of my fondest memories of the 2008 election night coverage was flipping over to FOX and seeing Karl Rove bloviate on how much McCain needed to win Ohio, at precisely the moment when FOX interrupted and gave Ohio to Obama! What a hoot. The little turnip fart deflated before my very eyes!
Gotta win Ohio again, Dems. Work for it!
