Locked in a tough re-election battle with Mitt Romney, President Barack Obama aimed to energize his core supporters – African American voters – by delivering a rousing speech and unveiling a new executive order at the Urban League’s annual convention in New Orleans Wednesday night.
The president told the largely African American crowd of roughly 3,700 people that the executive order will seek to improve educational achievement for African Americans at all levels “so every child has greater access to a complete and competitive education from the time they’re born to the time, all through the time they get a career” the president said to cheers.
An administration official tells NBC News the order will create a new White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African-Americans that will “work across Federal agencies and with partners and communities nationwide to produce a more effective continuum of education programs for African American students.”
President Obama addresses the National Urban League in New Orleans, La., on Wednesday. "If you still believe in me ... stand with me," he said.
The official added that the initiative would be housed in the Education Department, which will work with the Executive Office and other Cabinet agencies to identify practices that will improve African Americans’ achievement in schools and colleges. The administration official did not yet know how much funding the program would receive but said more information would be released Thursday when the president signs the executive order.
The president has previously received criticism from some black leaders for not doing enough to help the African American community as rates for school dropout and unemployment among African Americans continue to be higher than the national numbers.
For example, according to the National Center for Education Statistics, the dropout rate for African American students ages 16 to 25 was 8 percent in 2010; by comparison, white students in that age range had a 5.1 percent dropout rate. Further, the unemployment rate for African Americans is 14.4 percent, significantly higher than the national average of 8.2 percent.
Last August, Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) told a crowd of Congressional Black Caucus members in Detroit, “We want to give the president every opportunity to show what he can do and what he’s prepared to lead on. But our people are hurting and the unemployment rate is unconscionable.”
Obama has in the past responded to such criticism. In an interview on BET last September he answered a question about why he didn’t create more policies specifically targeted at African Americans: “That’s not how America works,” the president replied, “America works when all of us are pulling together and everybody is focused on making sure that every single person has opportunity.”
When asked if this latest executive order is timed to mobilize African American voters ahead of the election, one White House official said it is “one more step along a path that the president has been walking.” The official cited the fact that the president enacted the Race to the Top initiative and new flexibility on No Child Left Behind, actions aimed at improving educational opportunities for all students including minorities, according to the Official.
On Tuesday, the president admitted there was still a lot more work and asked the Urban League crowd for their continued support: “If we don’t keep fighting for better jobs and a better future, who will? That’s our challenge. We don’t quit.”
From the Romney camp, spokeswoman Tara Wall responded to the speech, saying, "As black Americans, we all take pride in Barack Obama's historic election - but unfortunately his performance as president has not matched that enthusiasm."
Exit polls show that 95 percent of African American voters supported president Obama in 2008. Analysts believe he will need them to turn out in similarly large numbers if he hopes to win key swing states such as Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina.
The president wrapped up his remarks with a familiar plea for voters to turnout in November; “I still believe in you and if you still believe in me I ask you stand with me. March with me. Fight with me and … I promise we will finish what we started, turn this economy around, seize our future and remind the world why the United States of America is the greatest nation on earth.”

Sounds pretty racist to me. What happened to the idea we were not a nation of blacks and whites and hispanics and asians and so forth, but rather a nation of Americans? Obama and his executive orders. I wish he'd order himself to do 2 rounds of golf daily until he needs to begin packing in January. Can you imagine the outrage that would ensue if Bush had created an executive order aimed at making it easier for native born Americans to get loans?
Actually, it's you who sounds racist, Texan. Big surprise there.
Can this pandering racist scumbag in the White House give anything else away for votes?! He will do anything to divide people and sell out this country in an effort to garner votes. What a jerk.
He may not know it, but he is only sowing the seeds of the demise of the DNC and the Liberal Movement... the smarter people (of all races) get, the harder it will be for Politicians and the Media to pass off propaganda and subterfuge as policy and substance
President Obama gave the wealthy their extended tax cuts last year because the rich said the cuts would create more jobs. They lied.
President Obama set up programs to help with foreclosures.
President Obama is extending tax cuts for the middle class.
President Obama passed health care legislation.
President Obama helped the auto industry.
President Obama, Michelle Obama and the Bidens have done an incredible amount of work to give our veterans as many benefits as is possible to help them return to a normal life here in states.
The black community is hurting and they need our help now.
In the meantime, what we need is to get the money back that is hiding in offshore accounts. The amount is in the trillions.
Wonderful speech tonite by a president of all the people. He is even the president of those in this country who don't give a damn about those who are hurting.
Which includes people posting in this article. They should be ashamed of themselves.
"Pandering racist scum?"
Unbelievable that people here in America actually write this stuff.
Typical Chicago style politics.
STexan
Agree that education policy and initiatives should be color transparent. However, when you are fighting a fire you point the hose at the flames. The education of Black (and Hispanic) inner city kids is a national disgrace.
@ Pat
This is where the DNC and RNC requires "us" to be...Believe it
@Loyal
Our Entire Education System is a World Disgrace...You would think he would be in favor of greater reforms...then we could begin to fix it for everyone...but ultimately you are correct, the most glaring, atrocious problems are in the minority inner city communities...but the focus to address that problem should be the minority communities and families...no changes in the education system will fix this
When I read the things that you on the right write, I feel a sense of joy that I left the fanatical, extremist right wing Republican Party…the only thing missing from your diatribes is a picture of ya’ll in your white sheets!
Sorry about your racist ignorance, but it was the Democrats that started the KKK and White Supremacy Hate Groups to put and keep the American blacks scared and under control. It was also the Republicans that freed the blacks and the republicans that got the blacks voting rights. It seems to me if you liberals could read the facts of history and current events its the Republicans that have done everything good for the blacks and the Democrats that have and are doing the HARM. Try and dispute History and the FACTS!! I am sure I will read some liberal BS soon enough!
It doesn't surprise me that Obama is doing another illegal racist move, which if it is not done for ALL Americans to benefit from it is ILLEGAL against the Constitution! Just like Affirmative Action was illegal when written by the Democrats and is still illegal 40 years later, NOW. Just to get more votes.
Hey, gotta give credit to nbc. They actually admit that this is designed to buy votes. Seriously, what is he proposing? Absolutely nothing! The reality is that it doesn't matter what race a student is, if they don't do the work, they won't learn. If they do the work, they learn. I wonder how teachers feel about this. He's telling them that they aren't doing their jobs! Of course, at least for the political teachers, they don't care if they are insulted or not as long as their is more money in it for them.
And, how will this help black students?
Ok, fine. I'll play along ... Then if this is such a huge problem and apparently has been for a very long time, then why didn't Obama do this in January of 2009? Furthermore, why couldn't he ask Pelosi to initiate this in the House to be approved through normal protocol? The man is obviously planning on losing. Why else are we seeing all the executive orders in the last months?
Pat, unbelievable that you write what your write. Equal opportunity doesn't mean preferential opportunity which is what Obama just ordered. Instead of the black community saying the government isn't doing enough to keep the kids in school, the black community should be saying "How are we failing our children?" The first idea that comes to mind is that the black community instills a sense of victim followed by a sense of entitlement. Maybe the black community should instill a sense of hard work and study instead. There is no other ethnic group in this country that hasn't been able to do it on their own. Why are the blacks different? I'm sure the response will be that I'm a racist which seems to be the basic answer provided by the black community and liberals. Of course that really isn't an answer, but it does perpetuate that victim mentality. On the other hand, calling me a racist just puts me in the same company as the President and you.
Fuzzy-0457... sorry for your racial ignorance...guess your name sums it up... but that was then and this is now!!! it was the southern Dems that LEFT the party after the Civil Rights bill was passed and signed into law by LBJ that joined forces with the Republican party that turned them into the racist group of intolerant, sociopaths that they are today!!! also, I read that exact same post on another thread some time back...do you save these?
Yep, the Republicans freed the African Americans but now they want to enslave us all under a yoke of a Plutocracy or Oligarchy and if you can’t see them for what they are….well I’ll just leave that up to other people to surmise!
Gotta go as I have to get to my second job so I can keep the wealthy in the style of living for which they are accustomed!
Nothing more dangerous for a free society than a "leader" who sees his power and influence coming to an end in the near future. Grab your socks and your wallet people and hold on. Between Obama, the EPA, and the commerce department and a half dozen other appointed head agencies, we are fixing to be deluded with dangerous and destructive policies that are going to be very hard to undo or repair their initial damages.
Obama policies as any liberal policy is a "barbed hook". Goes in easy and doesn't hurt too much, but hurts like hell when you realize you need to pull it out.
Realist,
I'm agreeing with you, except that I'd like to point out that it isn't just a "black vs white" sort of argument. It is ANY culture that promotes behaviors that are not consistent with education. This is seen across cultures, but is predominant in certain ones. Racist? Only if the truth bothers you...
Having children in a one-parent household, (possibly by different fathers)...if they are supported by taxpayers, they have "entitlement" modeled for them. If single parent works, they are being brought up in daycare or left on their own.
I'm not saying that 100% of these children will turn out uneducated, but majority will not have a parent modeling education acquisition, nor be spending much time in the child's classroom.
What I find interesting is that liberals will fight loudly for the rights of these women to keep procreating, to stay on government assistance without insisting that they must be educated (at taxpayer expense) to be the models that their children need. It makes one think the agenda of the left is to keep these cultures subdued and feeling a sense of gratitude for their monthly checks - all the while their sense of self-respect and pride have been sold for a few pieces of silver, and the liberals are laughing in their drinks.
ScottW430-
Like I said, Liberalism is a sickness, an illness. You liberals change the facts and distort them to convince yourselves you are correct, but your not, and not to smart either. Believe what your warped mindset wants you to believe. You are the RACIST Problems, not us. HISTORY shows it and proves it. Blacks are the BIGGEST RACIST of any group. This is the only intelligent thing they can counter with. Pretty ignorant to be truthful and factual makes us racist. If that is so I am a racist against ignorant people. Even being Jewish. I am guilty. I feel for you selfish, uneducated, radical people. May G*D help you.
"The official added that the initiative would be housed in the Education Department, which will work with the Executive Office and other Cabinet agencies to identify practices that will improve African Americans’ achievement in schools and colleges."
200 more government "jobs" no doubt... I wonder if they will use race as the determining factor in their hiring?
"In an interview on BET last September he answered a question about why he didn’t create more policies specifically targeted at African Americans: “That’s not how America works,” the president replied, “America works when all of us are pulling together and everybody is focused on making sure that every single person has opportunity.”"
Screw that, I desperately need votes. I'm going to take the "opportunity" from every single person and steer it towards YOU based on YOUR race... please vote for ME, I need MY power.
Emptily, B.O.
Can you Liberals say "flip-flip" or "desperate racist pandering?"
This is discrimination, something I would think the President should be against. The President is supposed to be a leader to all students. A new education program, set up by the President, should cover all students.
Hey Scott, you're the one with the racial ignorance problem. It was Democrats (google Fulbright..... you know, Clintons's idol) who fought to defeat the Civil Rights Act. Republicans made it possible for old LBJ to sign it.
As for your "second job".....tough s**t! I had 4 jobs my last semester of school, plus an 18 hour class load. I really feel for you, you poor martyr.
Maybe I'm missing something here with all those educated Morons running around un-employed, do We really need more?, I'm a Democrat and honestly think Obama has Fu_ked up from day one, yes he has been successful in some endeavors but the ones that really count has failed, and as far as the Blacks are concerned they need to look at themselves and the image they project, if majority are seen as criminals having a piece of paper is not going to help them get a job, and don't blame someone else for how their kids have turned out, because there are many Blacks that have been successful and are not criminals and that Gangster rap crap don't help either. If your a mentor like a lot of these Rappers are lead your youths to become productive citizens, forget that BS that everyone owes you something. And NO I'm not WHITE.
They can say both of those things, but only as it relates to Republicans (really anyone who doesn't agree with their way of thinking). I refer to it as the "3 Monkeys Syndrome". You know the ones, See no Evil, Hear no evil and Speak no evil, BUT (and that is a really big "but" about the size of Michele Obama's butt) this only applies to fellow liberals (absolutely) and the rest of the democrats (generally).
So, they can say those things, but they won't say those things in this instance!
This is pandering at it's worst. The president is proposing a highly racist program that is aimed at only one thing, getting him votes. The problem with education in the black community is not in the schools, it is in the homes. When the parents do not put an emphasis on education then the kids do not take it seriously. When you have a single parent household he situation becomes even worse. If Obama really wanted to do something about this problem he would address those issues, but that would mean placing the blame where it truly belongs and that is not politically correct and not what the black community in general wants to here. They want to be able to blame anyone else but themselves for their failures. There are more than enough examples of blacks from inner city schools who have risen to the top of corporate America for anyone taking an objective view of the situation to blame the schools. The parents need to take more of an interest in their children's education and make sure they do their homework and study. Instead the black community glorifies criminal behavior, the drug culture, and perpetuation of negative stereotypes through the lyrics of rap music and the general conduct of many black celebrities and athletes. Simply placing blame on the schools is absurd. The president pandering to the black community to get votes instead of addressing the real problem and calling the black community to task for their own problems shows a complete lack of leadership. He is throwing money into an endless pit and wasting taxpayer dollars on a racist program because he is afraid to say what needs to be said. The president should be using the bully pulpit of the presidency to take black parents and the black community to task for not placing enough emphasis on their children's education in the home instead of throwing money away on another program that will do nothing to improve the situation. A parent sitting down with their child to go through their homework with them will do more for their educational achievement level than throwing money at another in school program that the kids will just ignore.
@Pat Boston MA.
You know full well that Obama doesn't really want to help the African
American community too much. For 60 years the Liberals have kept them down creating the "new plantation", so that they would be guaranteed loyal voters.
Is this something to gain votes? Yes, I'd say so ... BUT, you also must look at facts. African American students DO have a higher dropout rate and the unemployment rate IS higher also.
Will this new initiative help? Time will tell. Is it racist? No, the situation is real and should be addressed. Something needs done, and you can fault Obama for using his office to influence voters if you like, but that's what politicians do. All of them.
We won't know if this new (whatever it'll turn out to be) will work for quite awhile. Hopefully it'll work as intended. Right now it's basically a "vote for me because I'll help you" item. Nothing new about that.
had he created a White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for White Americans he would be called a racist.........and you wonder why this country is divided. This is just another Democrat tool to keep the blacks under their yoke. Wake up black America.
Most of you who calling it racist or discrimination, try to read a little. The problem with education among African American are much worse than national average.
What are you trying to do? Screw them and continue to pretend nothing happen?
All motives and racial allegations aside, will this actually accomplish much?
I'm thinking 'no' for the simple fact that educational attainmment rests almost entirely on the support that secondary students receive at home. If we want to increase the odds of a black or hispanic or ANY child succeeding in school (and therefore life) all that is really required is a good, structured home environment. Black kids dropping out isn't the problem; it's the symptom of all of the broken homes, absentee fathers and out-of-wedlock births. Damn pesky morals and ethics.
Fils d'Artemis: Son of Virginity--really? Actually, the problem is a culture of slavery that remains deeply embedded in the American psyche.
To those who get it: let's give our President a democratic Congress he can work with, he's been ham-strung, hog-tied, & vilified long enough! And far worse than any American president in history--clearly we know why.
He'll be in the nursing homes next week offering rides to the polls.
Is Our 'Leader' saying that there are no White, Yellow, Hispanic Drop outs?
When is he going to do the same for ever color... I mean fair is fair...
Honestly Cuong. Poor Poor Blacks can't make it through college? Ever hear of self determination, motivation, and pride. I grew up in a predominately BLACK neighborhood. 1 of 5 white families. Went to the same schools, hung out in the same neighborhood, played in the same allies, but that is where the similarity ends.
You see while my BLACK friends were out on the street corner in the evenings, drinking 40s, smoking dope, and slack jawwing that ghetto slang, my happy ass was in the house, doing homework. When my BLACK FRIENDS were busy shoplifting, gang banging, peddling dope, breaking into houses and cars, my happy butt got a job, working for a BLACK employer. When they, those poor poor Black Friends of mine were busy playing that gangsta rap, with their damned pants hanging half way down their ass, Joe Boxers proudly flappin in the breeze, I went to the library. Read books. Determined to do what it took to get away from there. To not become one of those inner city wanna be thugs, living on swellfare, and being an armpit to society.
I went to school. Had the same teachers, the same crap neighborhood, the same poverty. The difference, was determination, self motivation, and drive. I didn't have it easy because I was white. I had it harder because I was the minority. I just applied myself. There are NO EXCUSES for being ignorant, uneducated, and plain friggin lazy. There is only that sorry excuse of being an oxygen thief and expecting someone else to GIVE you your future.
Color, race, creed, sexual orientation, religeous beliefs, and even economic status DOES NOT preordain you to be the person you become. THAT FATE sits solely in YOUR HANDS... It is about time, no, more than about time, people started accepting the responsibility and the ownership of their FAILURES in choices...
"Poverty is a symptom of the human condition which can be solved by education and education begins at HOME."
--Dave-2478570
@ the beggining, middle and the end of they day, every Liberal and Progressive "program" is designed for only one thing...Keeping the poor and minorities, poor and minorities, and owned by the Federal Government and the DNC...and the only changes the RNC would make it change the ownership to the RNC...
If you are in favor of freedom, democracy, and properity for any or all Americans then you should be looking for a Third party candidate to vote for...you will never find any of the three under DNC or RNC in the dictionary...

Will,
If I could vote you up a dozen times, I would. I did social case work in Chicago many years ago under an educated black supervisor. At the end of my apprenticeship, I had to write a report. I said that nothing in the ghetto would change as long as the black community there could make it on welfare. I remember seeing many large TVs, Cadillacs, etc., when I had very little money but was attending college. My supervisor agreed with me. I'll never forget my surprise when he shook his head and said "The only solution I can see is to ship all these people back to Africa." Given that there is no such solution, I think it is way past time to tell the "African-American" community to realign their priorities or suffer the consequences. And for the record, mothers in many, many communities work now, and many are heads of households. As one of those, I earned my MBA while working and supporting my family. And I taught different priorities than drugs, rap, and welfare.
Sorry, political diatribists: I wouldn't vote for the likes of Romney for anything. However, I will not be voting for Obama, either. Unless the system gives us acceptable choices, I will register my inability to support either candidate.
Just the fact that Obama calls them, "African Americans" keeps this country divided. Roosevelt said once, "you're either American, or you're not. No room for hyphenated Americans". Yes, I think Obama did that just to regain the votes of the blacks, for no other reason. I hope the black people can see they're being used and taken advantage of. Yes, I think his move is very racist, very un - American, and a poor move for the President of the UNITED STATES (emphasis on UNITED).
The problem with students levels of accomplishments lies not only with the schools, but the home. Our constant desire to "live the American dream" has caused families to separate, husbands and wives working, trying to earn enough to live on that high plain. The children suffer, because the parents are rarely there to help their kids through their childhood. Few do things together, like, sit down for dinner as a family, and discuss what went on that day. Children have become even more alienated from their parents than I was as a kid. They have become strangers in their own home, with earphones on, listening to their favorite music, or totally involved with their cellphones, talking, texting, playing games, taking photos, or totally involved on their computers, going places they shouldn't. Parents, even if they wanted to, can't tell their kids what to do, nor repremand them if they do wrong. Our government has seen to that. Many kids today are without motivation, direction, encouragement, and as a result have become entitled to the point they think the world owes them a living.
Forget the "African Americans", Obama, and work on a program that will get AMERICAN families back together, help them get jobs that only one wage - earner has to support a family - work to lower government's involvement in the family (such as the overworked term, "child abuse"). Let parents reprimand their children when they're wrong, and you might actually see LESS child abuse. Think about it - when a child does something wrong, the parent gets angry, spanks them. If the parent CAN"T spank them, they STILL get angry, but have to hold it in. After a few times of this scenario, the parent goes off the deep end, and gets so frustrated, they hit their kids harder than they would have in each situation. How do YOU feel, when a child, or a teenager mouths off to you, and tells you there's nothing you can do about it - don't you feel frustrated?
The only way America will succeed, is if we do away with the racist crap (like the media, saying, "first black man to hold this job"). He's not a black man, he's an AMERICAN. Lose the "Miss Black American Pagent", the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), the "United Negro College Fund", the "Black Caucus" in Congress. Get rid of the bigots who hold so much power in congress, they can pass laws that restrict ANYBODY from being equal. Stop segregating us, stop using words relating to one particular race, and start talking to us like we're actually all part of ONE group - the UNITED STATES.
STexan
Because that's what presidents do when faced with the possibility that they won't be re-elected, and this applies to the end of their second term as well. Ever notice how Bush didn't sign an agreement to withdraw from Iraq until a few months before Obama came into office?
As a black, social democrat, I'd never vote for Romney, for a host of reasons. However, on this point I agree with most of the conservative posters: black people just simply don't care about education. It's a community in which you have to justify why you like to read, and smart people are bullied at much higher rates than in any other culture, because we profound problems with jealousy. We will shoot someone over a pair of Nike's. It's a self-esteem problem. However, society isn't responsible for building self-esteem. Families are.
People on these boards are throwing the word "racist" around so much that it lacks meaning. The word should be disallowed just to force people to make rational arguments. Black people have never denied white people anything. They aren't racist; they are engaging in name calling--something that usually happens when people lack a vocabulary. Black families are is disarray because of history. I'm older than Jim-Crow and the Civil Rights Act, and I'm only middle-aged. My point, Jim Crow did not happen that long ago. And believe it or not, as f-kec up as this generation of my family is, it is healthier than the one that came before it. Living through Jim Crow was a living nightmare, and under nightmarish conditions you get PTSD. People suffering from that do not make good parents. Our parents speak as if there was no past. Just them trying desperately to survive. Pass the bottle. Every last one of them is mentally ill.
Unfortunately, the black culture developed in an atmosphere of oppression. One person cannot change a culture, and people are born into cultures. Not all people of every culture has the same needs. It is not racist to focus on a particular community or person if that community or person is somehow different. The problem is that we spent so much time during the 1960s trying to prove that we were just "like you," that we didn't realize that we weren't; two Americas were already present. We tried so hard to "integrate" and failed many of us have given up; we're tired. We realize that we have to make something of the culture in which we were born, but the problems are overwhelming. During the 1960s, we argued what we had to at the time to get anything that not so much as equaled equal rights, but resembled freedom. Frankly, I think the fact that white people think that they can just deny or wash their hands of a problems that they largely created is just as irresponsible as black people yelling racist every time they are just being lazy and ignorant. My ancestors didn't intern any Japanese citizens either, but I had to help pay the bill. That what happens when the government creates a debt.
We black people are perpetual victims, partly because of our own behavior. We want to riot because of George Zimmerman, for instance, but we have an excuse for the fatherless boy who shot the 4 year old in NY. I'm black and I ignore us often too, because we are often nonsensical.
P.S. Do your homework, there are many funds geared toward other groups that black people cannot qualify for. we don't tend to be blondes or redheads, have Norwegian last names. We are not Hebrew... Other communities succeed because people within those communities fund businesses or projects within those communities. History left black people with absolutely nothing. As one former slave said,"Even the birds had trees."
Federal government programs are not the solution. Draw a line starting in 1980 when the Dept of Education was created. Tell me where you see improvements between 1980 and 2012 - sustained educational improvements. You can't, because the Dept of Ed has been a catastrophic failure for everyone but the people whom they employ and the union that they serve.
Returning all the money and power to the states and local school boards and let them find solutions that work for their students and teachers.
Managing from above rarely works. The federal government proves this every single day in so many ways.
STexan,
When Obama appointed Judge Sotomayor to the Supreme Court, where were the calls that his actions were racist? When the DOJ attempted to defend immigrants in Arizona, where were the calls that Obama was racist? When the president accepted the Gay community, where were the calls that his actions were "out of the mainstream?" When the Japanese received compensation for their American internment, where were the calls that these actions were racist?
Without being criticized, former President Bill Clinton could not even apologize to African Americans for legalized slavery!
The racists on this forum consider equality racist...now that is racism at its worst.
"All boats should rise together..."
Why can't we end all of this silliness and just allow politicians to literally buy the votes they want? Just think of how much less expensive that would be for the taxpayers. /sarcasm
Will The Watcher:
After reading your post, I had this vision in my head of standing up and clapping. You hit the nail on the head all the way around man! Congrats on rising above your situation and not having the "victim mentality".
People have got to learn to take flipping responsibility for their own lives/actions. NOBODY.....I repeat NOBODY owes anyone a damn thing! You want something...get out there and work for it...legally, morally, and ethically!
Again, congrats Will!
I want to see how he goes for the blonde jewish spanish-speaking one-legged gay albino indian child of a crackhead single mother vote.
White won't vocally criticize a well-intended program but in combination with pandering immigration and illegals for the Hispanic vote, Obama can watch the white moderate boat sail away to Romneyland. There are many working people who are not and are hungry for any lower wage this time around.
@cheetah
Obama could decide not to run for re-election, and the DNC could decide not to nominate a replacement, and Romney still wouldn't win...I don't want to see 4 more years of Obama, but the RNC has guaranteed it by choosing Romney as its representative...If there is ever another American President, He/She wont be a Republican or a Democrat...
@STexan: Where did you get that idea; did you just make that up???? In all of my years of living in the USA it is what it has always been, but getting better.
@Mr. Phea: Has not worked for poor republicans. They still vote against their own interests. They must teach that in those voucher/private schools????
Here what Barack Obama has delivered.....
List compiled by Michael Snyder....
The following are 40 facts about poverty in America that will blow your mind….
#1 In the United States today, somewhere around 100 million Americans are considered to be either "poor" or "near poor".
#2 It is being projected that when the final numbers come out later this year that the U.S. poverty rate will be the highest that it has been in almost 50 years.
#3 Approximately 57 percent of all children in the United States are living in homes that are either considered to be either "low income" or impoverished.
#4 Today, one out of every four workers in the United States brings home wages that are at or below the poverty level.
#5 According to the Wall Street Journal, 49.1 percent of all Americans live in a home where at least one person receives financial benefits from the government. Back in 1983, that number was below 30 percent.
#6 It is projected that about half of all American adults will spend at least some time living below the poverty line before they turn 65.
#7 Today, there are approximately 20.2 million Americans that spend more than half of their incomes on housing. That represents a 46 percent increase from 2001.
#8 During 2010, 2.6 million more Americans fell into poverty. That was the largest increase that we have seen since the U.S. government began keeping statistics on this back in 1959.
#9 According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the percentage of "very poor" rose in 300 out of the 360 largest metropolitan areas during 2010.
#10 Since Barack Obama became president, the number of Americans living in poverty has risen by 6 million and the number of Americans on food stamps has risen by 14 million.
#11 Right now, one out of every seven Americans is on food stamps and one out of every four American children is on food stamps.
#12 It is projected that half of all American children will be on food stamps at least once before they turn 18 years of age.
#13 The poverty rate for children living in the United States is 22 percent, although when the new numbers are released in the fall that number is expected to go even higher.
#14 One university study estimates that child poverty costs the U.S. economy 500 billion dollars a year.
#15 Households that are led by a single mother have a 31.6% poverty rate.
#16 In 2010, 42 percent of all single mothers in the United States were on food stamps.
#17 According to the National Center for Children in Poverty, 36.4 percent of all children that live in Philadelphia are living in poverty, 40.1 percent of all children that live in Atlanta are living in poverty, 52.6 percent of all children that live in Cleveland are living in poverty and 53.6 percent of all children that live in Detroit are living in poverty.
#18 Since 2007, the number of children living in poverty in the state of California has increased by 30 percent.
#19 Child homelessness in the United States has risen by 33 percent since 2007.
#20 There are 314 counties in the United States where at least 30% of the children are facing food insecurity.
#21 More than 20 million U.S. children rely on school meal programs to keep from going hungry.
#22 A higher percentage of Americans is living in extreme poverty (6.7 percent) than has ever been measured before.
#23 If you can believe it, 37 percent of all U.S. households that are led by someone under the age of 35 have a net worth of zero or less than zero.
#24 A lot of younger Americans have found that they cannot make it on their own in this economy. Today, approximately25 million American adults are living with their parents.
#25 Today, one out of every six elderly Americans lives below the federal poverty line.
#26 Amazingly, the wealthiest 1 percent of all Americans own more wealth than the bottom 95 percent combined.
#27 The six heirs of Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton have a net worth that is roughly equal to the bottom 30 percent of all Americans combined.
#28 At this point, the poorest 50% of all Americans now control just 2.5% of all of the wealth in this country.
#29 Back in 1980, less than 30% of all jobs in the United States were low income jobs. Today, more than 40% of all jobs in the United States are low income jobs.
#30 Right now, the United States actually has a higher percentage of workers doing low wage work than any other major industrialized nation does.
#31 Half of all American workers earn $505 or less per week.
#32 In 1970, 65 percent of all Americans lived in "middle class neighborhoods". By 2007, only 44 percent of all Americans lived in "middle class neighborhoods".
#33 Federal housing assistance outlays increased by a whopping 42 percent between 2006 and 2010.
#34 Approximately 50 million Americans do not have any health insurance at all right now.
#35 Back in 1965, only one out of every 50 Americans was on Medicaid. Today, approximately one out of every 6Americans is on Medicaid.
#36 It is being projected that Obamacare will add 16 million more Americans to the Medicaid rolls.
#37 Back in 1990, the federal government accounted for 32 percent of all health care spending in America. Today, that figure is up to 45 percent and it is projected to surpass 50 percent very shortly.
#38 Overall, the amount of money that the federal government gives directly to the American people has risen by 32 percent since Barack Obama entered the White House.
#39 It was recently reported that 1.5 million American families live on less than two dollars a day (before counting government benefits).
#40 The unemployment rate in the U.S. has been above 8 percent for 40 months in a row, and 42 percent of all unemployed Americans have been out of work for at least half a year.
@Charles
that just proves the old saying..."you can't fool all the people, all of the time"...
yassa give me the black vote im not gonna do anything for you . but you need to vote for me cause im half black. i keep waiting for someone to tell me what the dems have done for the african american community in the last 30 years. have yet to get an answer smarten up people stop drinking the liberal koolaide
Hey obama, how about an executive order to help ALL students regardless of ethnicity.
Thanks Brenda, your thoughtful comment was like a breath of fresh air.
Rather depressing when an initiative to combat a well-known and acute problem for black youth garners such negativity.
When did Americans become so self-centered and selfish? Or does stories like this one draw them out like roaches from the woodwork?

Question... Why is it then that Texas gives in state tuition to illegal immigrants, but me as a US Citizen and a recent transplant have to wait a year? Perry supported this as well.
If its not right at the national level here, why is it okay in Texas?
Mr, soon-to-be ex-president due to his egregious pandering, Obama, the problem is in the failure of the black family. Once it was the central core of the black community. Now it is in total disintegration with black males not accepting their responsibility as fathers. Now it is not uncommon for a black woman to have numerous children from different fathers. Where do these males end up?...in gangs on the street shooting each other like in the black neighborhood in Chicago you used to represent when you were in Congress. You should accept your responsibility to the black community not by executive orders that just provide monies to those members of the black community that live off the suffering in the black community...but go there to speak to those black males on the street shooting each other and stop the violence that is the cancer in the black community. That's leadership Mr Obama. But you won't do it because you are a gutless wonder who only knows how to give a speech...and live off the pain in the black community by blaming all the problems there on whites...shame on you! That's racism sir.
Here we go again, President Executive orders. This is another giveaway promise to a voting block. By Law, Congress is supposed to allocate money for this. What he will do is the same thing he did with the medicare bridge insurance. Executive order a "temporary/experimental" program which he IS allowed to fund with EXCESS allocated funds from elsewhere.
The Trouble with the Temporary/experimental program is it will expire in 3, 6, or 12 months and not be picked up in the next budget. This is a political give-away to earn votes.
There is nothing worse than temporary or false hope.
@Will The Watcher, I wish there were a million more people like you in this country! I applaud your efforts, and wish you the best. Too bad your black neighnors didn't follow in your path.
@Brenda - 1.39 - I call bull sh*t. It is that exact mentality that has led to the problem in the black community. We were so oppressed 60 years ago that now we can't make anything of ourselves. Bullsh*t. Millions of people from other cultures who can't speak our language, have been oppressed for generations in their own countries, have no freedoms from their own governments, can't practice their religion, have no formal education to speak of, and arrive on our shores penniless somehow find the way to educate themselves in the same system as black americans, obtain employment, very often start their own businesses and make comfortable lives for themselves by the sweat of their own brow.
Black American citizens have every one of those same possibilities to succeed and are even much better poised to do so than immigrants because they are already here and do not need to go through the daunting tasks of learning a new language or integrating themselves into a new society and new culture. Given that, black americans should be far surpassing immigrants in education, employment, creating businesses and wealth, yet the fail dismally at such comparisons.
The problem is not a lack of government programs, racism, oppression of their ancestors, or anything else external. The problem is the decline of the black culture, especially the black family. Black mothers who destroy themselves by having five kids by five different fathers remove self-reliance from their own equation. Those people are destined to live off the government dole because of the situation they created themselves. They themselves make it virtually impossible for them to succeed. The kids don't get proper supervision, have no father figures and eventually turn to drugs and alcohol to survive because no one has taught them how to succeed properly. No one makes their buts get up and go to school, no one sits with them and teaches them how to make themselves a better life because the parents themselves don't know how to do it when generations of them have been living off of the government. Black sons learn that it's OK to father kids and walk away from them because that's what their dads did, black daughters learn that its ok to sleep with dozens of men before marriage because that's what their momma did and the situation perpetuates itself.
Where are the black ministers? Where are the black mentors? Where are the successful black people who have broken from the stereotype? These are the only people who are going to be able to fix the problems in the black community. It's long past time for some tough love in the black community from these people. Bill Cosby tried it but there needs to be thousands of Bill Cosbys out there to actually make it happen and a willingness amongst the community to see that the problem is an internal one.
Unfortunately, instead the most vocal of the black community like Sharpton, Jackson and their ilk, choose to perpetuate the "whoa is me" mentality for their own political and monetary gain. They don't care about the black community, they care about how they are going to make their next million off of the black community.
For God's sake the President of the Free World is a black man. By all accounts, an regardless of where people believe he was born or who his family is, there is no indication that he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He is President today because someone made sure he got an education, made sure he stayed in school, made sure that he was fitted with the tools he would need as an adult to do whatever he wanted to do with his life instead of being keyholed into a life of drug selling and hanging out on street corners waiting for his next welfare check. He learned from someone that it was not OK to father five kids with different women and walk away from them. He learned from someone that the family unit was important not only to his own success but to his children's success. Someone provided him with the tough love that all of us need at some point in our lives to make that lightbulb turn on in our heads that we shape our own destinies, regardless of our circumstances.
Until the Bill Cosbys of the black community become more vocal than the Al Sharptons, the black community will continue to decline regardless of how many government programs are put out there.
Racist Pandering.
The problem with education isn't solely about African American's, that's a national dilemma first off, and secondly, pandering to a particular race or otherwise when concerning education is sickening. This is blatantly discriminative.
Funny...
If President Obama does nothing to help Africa Americans righties call it out.
If President Obama does something to help African American's, then he is a racist.
If President Obama issues an executive order its wrong.
If a GOP President issues an executive order, it's right.
So conservatives, rightys, and members of the GOP, how does one handle the hypocrisy?
I worked in two inner city schools, one was 100% african-american the other was 60% african-american. I did my internship in a wealthy school with about %10 african americans.
No one wants to hear this but it starts with the families, there are no amounts of executive orders that are going to fix the educational process until we fix the black family.. In the inner city there is little structure to the family, no one is reading or doing homework with these children. The children either run the streets or watch TV. The parents never came to parent teacher conferences. There was never real structured discipline ( there was lots of random physical beatings/spankings from angry parents but no real discipline) There are few if any fathers in the home.
When I worked at the wealthy schools ALL the children regardless of race did exceptionally well. Teachers saw both parents regularly and the children were all involved in after school structured activities. The parents sat down every single night with the children to go over homework ( or their nannies/babysitters/au peers did)
Here is the truth: If you are not sitting down every single night to go over homework with your child -and providing structured after school time ----you are failing as a parent!!!!!! This is even more true for teenagers.
Sam: ".....Maybe I'm missing something here with all those educated Morons running around un-employed, do We really need more?"
What???? The unemployment rate for college educated in June of 2012 was 4.1%. So, do we really need more? In the technology age, well, yes.
Education is a fundamental human right. If America has tried to promote girls' education in a Muslim country such as Afghanistan, it should do it well in promoting education to all here in Americanistan first. Otherwise, what's the point doing it in Afghanistan.
Obama.Biden 2012
@JS in SD
Are you black and have lived in a single parent household? If not you don't know what the hell you're talking about.
And that goes for anyone else who 'thinks' they know. You don't. Period.
Looks like the "panderer in chief" is at it again, this time creating yet another commission that he will never meet with. He loves to meet with groups and tell them he is forming a group to solve their problems... And they love him for it. The only problem is, nothing ever comes of it and no one goes back to find out that either (a) the groups were never formed, (b) they formed and got money to do something but never did it, or (c) they came up with recommendations that no one ever did anything with.
When all else fails, you can count on him to pay big lip service to his core.
STexan
More empty rhetoric from Obama. There are 2 problems with his 'Executive Order';
1 - He can't spend any money on it without the approval of Congress.
2 - There's an 'inconvenient' 14th Amendment to the Constitution that requires 'Equal Protection under the Law', which precludes using race as a basis for federal programs.
JS in SD "This is pandering at it's worst... The president should be using the bully pulpit of the presidency to take black parents and the black community to task for not placing enough emphasis on their children's education in the home instead of throwing money away on another program that will do nothing to improve the situation. A parent sitting down with their child to go through their homework with them will do more for their educational achievement level than throwing money at another in school program that the kids will just ignore."
Excellent comments.
Kallie "I worked in two inner city schools, one was 100% african-american the other was 60% african-american. I did my internship in a wealthy school with about %10 african americans...No one wants to hear this but it starts with the families, there are no amounts of executive orders that are going to fix the educational process until we fix the black family...Here is the truth: If you are not sitting down every single night to go over homework with your child -and providing structured after school time ----you are failing as a parent!!!!!! Thank you for identifying the only effective SOLUTION to the problem.
@Kallie. Exactly right on. My daughter-in-law worked in a elementary school in DC. Most parents never came to school for any reason. Not to attend conferences or even the plays or other activities. It was not because they were working. The DIL. Would try to work within their schedules. Still no response. The kids had no coats for winter or food for breakfast. We had a coat drive where I worked in DC to try to overcome some of it. My African American friends who worked with me were appalled. One guy was particularly incensed with the street language. He said his daddy would have washed his mouth out if he talked like that. And this guy was bullied by those who thought he should talk like them.
As to this specific issue, our educational system fails many. there are plenty of non black kids who are getting short changed. Parents and government needs to make this a priority for ALL kids.
A friend of ours married a fine, black gentleman who grew up poor in Wichita. His parents (both of them) made sure that all their children received a good education and worked with them on homework. All of the children worked hard in school and in the small family junkyard. This gentleman was named one of the most eligible bachelors in Kansas City. He has since risen to head one of the largest credit unions in the nation. He and most of his brothers and sisters have gone on with post-secondary education and several have post-graduate work in various fields that require a great deal of education. I am proud to call him friend and am thrilled that his wife (our friend and with multiple degress) married him.
Yes ,you can get out of the ghetto. No, you can't do it by selling drugs. No, you can't do it solely on government handouts. No, you can't do it by waiting for someone to give it to you.
ScottW430-
Like I said, Liberalism is a sickness, an illness.
Totally 100% agree. The best schools in th world can only work with what the parents send them. These kids spend 6-7 hours a day in school and then go home to an environment that either nurtures or reinforces what happens in school, or denigrates it and tears it down (or ignors it altogether).
In the town where I live, the local schools have an abysmal record of low graduation, poor scores, and lots of discipline problems. A local private school bought one of the run down buildings from the public school and their teachers make less than HALF what their counterparts in the public school make. So with underpaid teachers and a substandard building, you would expect poor results, right? But the opposite is true. Their graduation rate is nearly 100% and their test scores are through the roof. The big difference? Every kid there has parents who care enough about the kid's education to fork over hard earned money to put them there. Those are the kinds of families who care how the kids do.
The answer to education isn't higher paid teachers, better buildings, or more technology. The problem with education is the breakdown of the family and the moral decay in society (along with a total lack of discipline or expectation of hard work). Families that expect a lot from their children and care about them get good educational results. The schools can't fix broken families.
Those historic facts aside,Obama has crafted a shrewd campaign from a worldly perspective. Beyond his latest effort to buy votes from the black community, my major concern is that a significant portion of his campaign strategy was based on development of strategic alliances with the most godless and morally debased segments of our society in a thinly veiled effort to secure votes from those "the Obama administration believes"to be one dimensional, intellectuallycompromised, single issue constituencies. Until boomers take a firm stand against liberalism in the Democratic party and the morally vapid actions driven by an all-consuming desire for power, the outlook may seem grim indeed. Without question, this will certainly be the most important election in American history!
Beyond requisite intellectual acumen, our upcoming president MUST have a strong moral foundation and acute, politically savvy awareness the principles of prudent governance. Obama's morally vapid strategic political alliances clearly disqualify him from this hallowed leadership role. For that reason, I believe all principled members of the democratic party must abandon his candidacy and their party line vote for the long term good of our country! Retreat and return to fight another day when the Democratic party can submit a candidate who is willing to uphold traditional American values rather than to attempt to destroy the country from within.
Just when I thought Obama could not become any more morally corrupt, I learned today he has made yet another Faustian deal with the devil. He has appointed the "King Of Gay Pornography" to his campaign finance committee. Such sick, morally debased perversion is not what is expected in the office of the President of the United States!
Unfortunately the one thing that will get blacks out of poverty is the one thing you cant force on them, education, they just arent interested. How do you educate someone who refuses to be educated.
I don't think anyone is debating that point. The question is, what is the best way to fix the poor black community (I use the term "poor" because that's the broken community...the non-poor black community seems to be doing fine).
Executive Order - STRAIGHT from the East Wing of the White House.
ANOTHER issue from Mr. Obama to DIVIDE the country and in particular, pandering for VOTES.
It is time: IMPEACHMENT.
No child left behind, is it??? But, now they have to be black. Give me a break. What about all the others? Where's the emphasis for them?
why is it that illigals can come here and find work. yet the cradle to grave welfare class cant find any work? simple solution sent all the illigals back to where ever their from and fill the jobs they have with the welfare people. problem solved and before someone calls me a racist this statement is for everyone!
Bruce,
You hit the proverbial nail right on the head!!!!! The problems, not just with education, all stem from the breakdown of the family unit. The rise in violence, the rise in out of wedlock births, the rise in poverty, all of these go back to not having a good stable childhood with two parents to love support and nurture children. Liberals are loathe to tell anyone that they should do anything but live life as they want to, regardless of responsibility. They are wrong! There are always consequences for the choices we make and like it or not we are forced to live with them.
The President is exercising his executive power again. Too bad it isn't for something that benefits all children, not just a select voting block. President Obama tosses the term racism around like balloons at a party, tagging anyone who dissents as racist, then issues an executive order like this. He has been one of the most divisive presidents in history and will continue to drive wedges between Americans as long as he is in office or relevant in public life, just like Sharpton and Jackson.
The answer is not throwing money at education. While money is necessary, it is not the solution. The solution is in attitude not availability. Our Olympic athletes in London, dreamed a dream than by attitude, determination, and the support of families and communities made it into a reality. Just as many successful people who clawed their way out of poverty and obscurity to new lives have done. Until we find a way to change attitudes, until we find a way to restore values we will face dismal education results. Committing to succeed is how it begins, and support of family and friends is how it happens. For those who are really committed, opportunities present themselves. We have provided an abundance of opportunities, we have made it easy for those that really want it, but we have neglected the key element that creates success, drive! Drive is something that is instilled by how you are raised, by what you are taught and how it is reinforced. Without a strong family unit (whether that includes one, two, or more parents), moral values (a strong sense of wrong and right), and support, drive is at best an "iffy" proposition.
tim-2799493, in response to some comments made by STexan, you said he sounded racist, and you implied that his racism is because he’s from Texas.
Tim, do you see what’s happening here? You are giving the readers the impression that you’re ethno-centric, because you did not offer any proof to support your claim. Can you quote some sentences from STexan’s comments that would justify your allegation that STexan “sounds racist?”
This BOZO has to go.
ANYBODY else in 2012
25Walker:
Please explain to the readers what aspect of Obama’s appointment of a Latina to the Supreme Court could be viewed as racist? This had nothing to do with one ethnic or racial group having an advantage over another.
Please explain to the readers why you think that Obama’s instruction to Department of Justice’s to review the treatment of illegal immigrants in Arizona, could possibly be construed as racist? This also had nothing to do with one ethnic or racial group having an advantage over another.
Please explain the connection between racism and "out of the mainstream?"
Can you explain for the readers the difference between ethnocentrism and racism?
Please explain why you believe that compensation to Japanese internment camp families and survivors should draw accusations of racism?
Compensating people in 2010 for financial loss at the start of WWII in 1941, is not a mia culpa for racism; it is instead recognition of the poor moral judgment that was exercised by hysterical national leaders, under extreme conditions. Judging 1941 behavior by 2012 standards makes you an ethnocentric.
Why do you think former President Clinton was criticized for his attempt to apologize for legalized slavery? Could it have been more for ethnocentric and economic reasons than anything else?
Please identify the racists on this forum (And notify your attorney of the impending lawsuits for slander), and explain to the readers why, in your opinion, they believe equality is the same as racism?
If all boats should rise together, as you believe, then why didn’t Obama raise the boats of all American students, i.e., students of all races, colors, and creeds, instead of just the boats of the racial group to which he belongs?
When a person favors his racial group over other racial groups, then that person is a racist. In this case, Obama made a deliberate decision to benefit his group over, and at the expense of all other groups; therefore, Barrack Obama is a racist.
I don't think it's unusual for an ethnocentric (25 Walker) to support a racist (Barrack Obama). I wonder what the other readers think?
Obama has already harmed Americans (of all races) including, in particular, the African American population, by instituting an authoritarian executive policy of granting rewards and special treatment for ILLEGAL FOREIGN NATIONALS including the pledge to grant over 1 Million of them work permits, which is anticipated to commence in August 2012. Americans of all races (including this Democrat) will not forget Obama's decision to side with the lawbreakers over the lawabiders (including his disrespect for the appx. 1 Million LEGAL immigrants who come to the U.S. every year after waiting the wait, paying a high price, and going through a thorough background check).
With so many American citizens (of all races) out of work and with African American teen unemployment exceeding 40% and African American unemployment exceeding 16%, Obama's decision to grant rewards incident to immigration lawbreaking (and thereby to embolden and incentivize exponentially more of it into the future) will backfire for certain!
A GOVERNMENT WHICH REFUSES TO ENFORCE ITS OWN LAWS IS INTOLERABLE! This Administration is INTOLERABLE!
MisterWonderful,
You are wrong.
The Department of Education requires minimum levels of academic achievement. Before the USDE, minimum standards of educational achievement did not exist.
Agreed.
Draw the line in 1980.
The reemergence of the absurd "Trickle Down/Supply-Side Theory" gave a substantial financial advantage to the rich. The rest of America was left behind in the "rear view mirror." Now, only the rich now can comfortably send their children to medical and law schools.
More work needs to be done.
African Americansand Caucasian students, have a decreased school drop out rate.
Your above statement is a bold lie.
Because of the USDE standards, more African American and Caucasian students are taking advanced academic courses. A greater number of our youth are aiming for college.
A teacher's tenure is now tied to the teacher's "performance."
Unions are good for America.
Glaringly, the following fact escapes many:
Unions set a humane standard for work place conditions, safety, fair pay and medical leave.
The above destructive practice was tried.
The policy of "States Rights, deprived African American of an education.
Particularly in the South, States Rights allowed and encouraged the deliberate defunding of school districts that were African American. States Rights left Black students at the mercy of their racist school boards. You are aware of the racist tactics of local school boards and is why you are bellowing to bring them back.
From 2000-2008, this country foundered.
If this country had been properly managed, from "above," America would not be in her current economic mess.
Right wing policy is a failure.
Getalife,
Bill Cosby is vocal about African American achievement.
Years ago, Cosby gave a historically Black college 20 million dollars for structural and upgrade improvements. What did the racist say about Cosby's actions? The racists called Bill Cosby's philanthropic actions "racist."
Cosby's kind and "pull us by the bootstraps" actions were criticized.
Hypocritically, no one squawks about the Ivy league schools' endowments.
There are many who do not want Africans American to be academically competitive. The hatred in their hearts and minds is deep. The racists would prefer to see America fail, rather than see a Black child educated.
...how naïve we are.
African-American either you’re American or not we do not have British-Americans, Swiss-Americans, European-Americas etc…so if you’re not American first leave. As for Obama he is buying votes and needs to be tossed out of office for doing so for giving Blacks and illegal’s, special treatment in order to gain their votes.
Education starts at home with parents being involved and supporting the schools.
Think about being in an accident and looking up at the doctor that is there to save your live do you really need to wonder if he or she only got there because they were the right race or sex? You need a lawyer, investment broker, etc… you want the best and brightest regardless.
ScottW40:
You wrote: “it was the southern Dems that LEFT the party after the Civil Rights bill was passed and signed into law by LBJ that joined forces with the Republican Party.”
I find it very difficult to believe your story. Can you identify the Southern Democrats to which you are referring?
To begin with, there were only two Southern Democrats who crossed over, and the Republicans told them to leave their racist baggage at home.
According to cyber-political analyst bmovies6: Other “Democrats, including racist ones, stayed within the Democratic fold.”
Secondly, if it weren’t for the Republican Party, the bill would never have been passed:
The fact of the matter is that LBJ went to the Republicans to help him pass the act because he knew he would have very little support among his fellow Democrats. And the Republicans voted in favor of it in higher percentages than the Democrats did. […] Now in light of that fact, why would a racist Democrat cross over to the Republican party (bmovies6)?
In sum, if the Republican Party was instrumental in passing the 1964 Civil Rights Act, and the majority of racist Southern Democrats stayed in the “Democratic fold”, then it is not unreasonable to believe that your characterization of Republicans as a “racist group of intolerant, sociopaths” is inaccurate and without merit.
Racist worm.
Hmmm... once again, former President BUSH leads Obama in the # of executive orders:
http://www.archives.gov/federal-register/executive-orders/disposition.html
How interesting that righties forget this and the 'questionable' nature of some of these.. but as always, if Obama does it, it has to be wrong..
arkius they wont believe you. people take it one step more check out african americans in congress see how many there were until the southern dems started running them out. reps have done more for the blacks than the dems ever will . all the dems want is to keep them down and dumb that way they can get the vote for empty promises.
What a bunch of Mondays, the minorities have figured it out , the way to get taxpayer money without working is to vote in fellow minorities !!!
Dirtbag Obama pandering to get more votes.... and buying them with taxpayer money. It's time to impeach this pretender.
Sobi, if you want to engage me in discussion then do so, but calling me a racist will only result in me bringing a lawsuit against you.
I suggest you put aside the K-Y jelly and your inflatable girlfriend, and try to think of something intelligent to say that won't conclude with you standing before a judge.
Sue me. Anyway, I was referring to Obama, the racist worm.
Why should I sue you when I agree with you.
It's just that you weren't too clear about who the racist worm was.
Agreed.
Before I address some of the "ignorance" on this thread, let me just say this.
It was the Republicans in the 1930's up to the 50's that fought hard for the rights of minorities and because of them we've gotten some rights but not all and for me not to be a history buff I was intrigued when I read and studied up on it. Unfortunately it was done for obvious reasons and their stance has significantly changed over the years.
Second, Political play by the President, absolutely. Smart, you betcha. Right thing to do, that remains to be seen concerning what the executive order entails. The President being racist....HAHAHAHA, then again it's open to interpretation.
Now for those that have never or even attempted to know how the African American Community works. Let me educate you a bit:
If you have never been in an minority community, African American or mixed for that matter. You shouldn't fix you mouth to pass judgement or even comment about how they live or "perceive" to live. First and foremost, 90% of minorities that are on government assistance through no fault of their own, do not desire to stay on government assistance. As a young black man growing up, I have been in those neighborhoods I was raised in a single family home with 2 siblings and a mother working two jobs and still not making enough to get by. She didn't like getting assistance from the government but in order for us to eat and live she had no choice. When she was able to do on her own, she got off. Needless to say we struggled my whole childhood and when I was able to work, I vowed I would do for my family and made sure we never lived like that again.
I am not the only one that feels that way and when you LOSE a good job and have to TAKE whatever job you are offered (even if you are lucky to find one as we are the last to get hired even when we are qualified to do the job) in order to make ends meet, they are hesitant, dare I say too proud to seek government assistance as they don't like hand outs(again I am speaking for the 90%).
As far as education is concerned, again, if you have never been to, volunteered, or even attended a school in a predominately poor neighborhood, then you shouldn't be commenting as you no nothing about the hardships they incur on a daily basis. These schools are traditionally underfunded, the best teachers are usually identified and transferred to other schools and those that are "less interested" in the education of students period are sent there. The kids are misunderstood and most are frustrated as they can't get the education they need or are bored because they are not being challenged. These are the kids that suffer the most as they are not pushed to their limits as they are forced to be held back due to the current curriculum instituted by the state and county. These are the schools that need to be funded just like those in "better" neighborhoods if not more. I have always said that those schools that are doing well, do not need more money than those that are doing poorly. If you focused on the schools that are doing poorly and bring them up to the same standards as those that are going great, you will eventually reduce the funding cost for education. I've seen this work in Tampa and was amazed by the results.
I will NOT sit here and say that the parents don't need to be involved in the education of their children because they do and it's sad that there are too many that don't in the African American community. I can honestly say my mother didn't but I was lucky(or fortunate whichever one you want to use) to have a teacher that cared about my education and challenged me to do better and achieve a higher standard. We need more teachers like that.
I will say that what the President is trying to do is commendable and I would invite those that claimed and spew hatred that Obama is a racist to look at it from this side(if your mind will let you). If he can get the African community working again, (IE. better education and retooling so that can find better jobs) the unemployment rate in the community will drop so will the need for government assistance(which a lot of you believe we are so dependent on) thereby saving the taxpayers money that can go to reducing the national debt which I'm sure a lot of you bashing the president for something that is considered "unconstitutional" would appreciate. Problem is that most of you(and you know who you are) who have never lost your job or never struggled a day in your life don't know what it's like to lose a job but also on a daily basis figure out how you are going to feed your kids or pay the light bill or the rent/mortgage, etc.....All you know is that you work hard(or hardly work) for what you have and expect everyone else to do the same. In a perfect world that would be expected but the world is not perfect and definitely not fair.
Something also to think about...When Obama was elected, African Americans abroad "assumed" that he would help resolved a lot of the issues we face regarding racism, racial profiling, pay gap, unemployment, so forth and so on. What they didn't count on is Obama wanting to help ALL Americans as he stated in his BET interview(which I assume most of you skipped over that paragraph or didn't even make it that far into the story in your excitement to bash and call Obama names) and many others before. For the past year and a half, the black community has been up in arms because Obama hasn't done "enough" for them which to me is so narrow minded and the problem with the country today. He is the President of the United States not just one ethnic group or religion. Once we as a nation accept that (which we didn't seem to have a problem with prior to Obama being elected) THEN I believe we can get back to being the great country we were 15 years ago.
Jeff,
When Obama accepted same sex marriage, did you consider him to be buying votes in the Gay community?
Should the GOP be tossed out of office for giving the 1% "special treatment?"
Opening line to a thesis. Anyone actually read it after the initial insult?
lol
Sobi,
Thanks for proving my point. It wasn't an insult. It is fact based on the racially motivated comments I've read thus far.
I didn't prove your point. You are employing grammar-school level rhetoric in an attempt to turn what I said around on me.
FAIL
Yes, I did. Figuring he had came out two years earlier as being against it.
I stated 3 1/2 years ago when President Obama got rid of the one program that was offering poor inner city students a chance to have the same education as his children that he looked down on the poor... especially poor black children as they were the one's who were mostly hurt from that decision. He couldn't have his young daughters hanging around ghetto trash now could he? One of the bigger things this President did that rubbed me the wrong way.
Now, he is seeing that the Black voter is beginning to see the Democratic Party for what it is and is trying to halt that out of control train right before the November election. I do hope the Black people of this nation see this as the buy out that it is.
Johnson was the one and only Democrat that did anything worth while for the Black People and the Black race showed that in general they are loyal, respectful, and look at this country as their home. What President Obama has done is disrespectful and disgraceful. If he was looking to get more black people to vote for him by trying to buy them off right before an election after treating them like @!$%# for 3 years straight then he's got another thing coming.
Most parents, Black or White cannot afford to give their children the education that the Obama children receive. However, most parents do want the best for their children. Therefore, it is not a mystery that he and his wife wanted their children to receive a good education. However, because African American children academically lag behind their Caucasian counterparts, is a notable reason for the Obama administration to go forward with the focused academic curriculum.
Johnson achievements were historic. Johnson brought to fruition the legendary Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act and The War on Poverty.
Because of slavery many African Americans do not know their actual homeland.
There is agreement.
Initiatives should have been made to address the specific problems that affect the African American community, long ago.
Ok, perhaps off topic, but I've asked before and no one answered.
What is the protocol and or process for getting collapsed? I ask because I notice many comments that are collapsed that are not insulting, demeaning or inflammatory, yet I see others that most certainly are or just down right false that are not collapsed.
Maybe knowing will help me process the comments better.
Thanks
...some posters will collapse a comment just because they do not like or agree with the comment.
pat boston,
"Wonderful speech tonite by a president of all the people. He is even the president of those in this country who don't give a damn about those who are hurting."
Obviously your opinion and you are entitled to it but it amazes me that you and others of the same opinion can see this as being good not for a specific race but for America. This type of Presidential edict no matter if legally correct is just furthering the widening split between races in this country.
Is this representative of "a president of all the people"?
25Walker
Thank you for the reply. I suspected as much. So how is that done? What action causes the comment to be collapsed. At least that way I won't do it.
Wrong, you point the hose at the idiot with the match in his hand.... which in this case is Obama.
ABSOLUTELY!!! Politics isn't rocket science. More votes equals winning elections. Take for example the Amnesty for Illegals with a Dream (what illegal isn't dreaming of a better life when they decided to invade this country), Discounted school loan extensions for Students, Executive Order aimed for Blacks, A Hollywood Movie Deal about the Osama Ben Laden Raid, .... it just goes on and on and on with this asswipe of a president.
Last I heard, it was Obama who bailed out 1%'ers and Union Owned Companies..... here we go again, it's all about the votes, and Obama is cronyism at is worse.
Machine0208
No problem.
Next to every post, in the bottom right lower corner is an exclamation point.
"Left click" the exclamation point (!).
You will see a series of choices about why you are collapsing the comment.
The choices are "No Value, Inflammatory, Advertising and Ignore This Author."
After a particular post receives a certain of "collapsed votes," the post is collapsed.
However, by clicking the "collapsed by the community" notation, next to the post, you can still read the comment.
The following is an example:
The above poster, Duphas, has made an absurd post.
At the bottom of his post, I have clicked on the exclamation mark.
I have highlighted the "No Value" option.
Hope this helps.
After a particular post receives a certain number of "collapsed votes," the post is collapsed.
Collapsing votes is something only pickleweasels do.
It means they can't stand to allow somebody else to voice thier opinion.
The destructive and illogical "posts" of the right should be collapsed.
The GOP is regressive and coddles reactionaries.
Below is another shinning example of the right's garbage:
...looks like "common sense" is not so common.
Your question should be: Economically, who brought financial turmoil and disaster to America?
Hint - The GOP!
Take your own advice and listen to the solution-oriented policies of Obama.
Duphas,
The Republicans have "propped up" the 1%. Currently, the GOP is tenaciously advocating: no to extremely low taxes for the wealthy, job elimination in America, job outsourcing, no regulation for the thieves on Wall Street and the money grabbers in the big banks, no health care for the majority of Americans and high taxes for this country's struggling middle class and poor.
If you look up the words "greedy, selfish and suicidal," you will see the words "the political right wing."
See? It helps when they self identify as comment fascists.
Fake Liberals.
25 walker, maybe you should look up the word "liberal"
Jeff,
Snuff out the garbage. Irish Americans claim St. Patrick's day. Italian Americans claim Columbus day. German Americans claim Steuben Day. Only when African Americans refer to their native land of Africa, are there screams and wails of "we're all American." We are. However, some of us immigrated to this country. Some of us were brought here as slaves. Jeff, be real.
Obama is not buying votes. He is addressing the urgent need of a segment of the population.
Romney should never be elected to the Oval office. Mitt has made it clear that he will favor the rich and powerful. Jeff, unless you are among the privileged, you are misguided and you are complaining about people who do not have any authority over you. Because ignorance, Romney just might make it to the Oval office.
Alil Common Sense Fake Liberals..maybe you should look up the word "liberal"
Alil, Here is an excellent example of "liberal." The
ConsConservatives are liberal at giving government largesse to the 1%.Racists announce new racist programs, for themselves. No surprise.
Not claiming that he doesn't have racist tendencies...but, If you are against Childhood Obesity doesn't mean you are in favor of Adult Obesity...If you want to fight Breast Cancer you are required to focus the campaign towards women...
It is a simple, undeniable fact that Minorities, and yes that includes African American Children, suffer from a epidemic of academic success inadequacy... though I personally believe that disproportionate deficiency begins in the homes of the children...It isn't Racist to try to fight it, though I would like him to focus on the problem
Maybe if there were two parents in the home and these women didn't bed down with every Tom,Dick & Harry and pop out these babies to get a bigger welfare check & more food stamps...they don't care about getting an education...Obama don't give a damn about the black community...he just needs thier votes...
Gee dixie, evidently you don't see all the bedding down the married people do in white collar offices all over the country. Donald Trump comes to mind.
Cute, Pat. Except that Mr. Trump actually takes care of his children.
Some government stats that might interest you... (2008) "The black community's 72 percent rate eclipses that of most other groups: 17 percent of Asians, 29 percent of whites, 53 percent of Hispanics and 66 percent of Native Americans were born to unwed mothers in 2008, the most recent year for which government figures are available."
Prof, I think with the statistics you just posted explains why President Obama made that speech tonite. He is recognizing that there is a problem. But from the posts here it doesn't appear anyone gives a damn.
We Americans have a very bad habit of looking the other way when answers aren't so simple. President Obama knows this and he is reaching out to try and fix this problem. It's what all presidents ought to do, regardless of the color of his skin.
Wouldn't you agree?
We have let things slide for so many years and now it is President Obama who has to try and please everyone. It's not easy. But because there is obviously still a lot of racism in this country doesn't mean President Obama should ignore the black community. They are always ignored. He wants to change that.
I would think all Americans would want that.
Pat Boston ma...President Obama has not helped veterans. Since he took office the quality of care has gone back 20 years. Now service connected disabled veterans rated up to 30% have to pay a co-pay and carry insurance. The forclosure program has helped very few. And the tax cuts he went along with in 2010. There are more than just African Americans who need excellence in education. There are many low income families of all races who need the same help. President Obama in my book is a bigot and holds a bias against anyone who is not black.
Bobby, I'm sorry you feel that way. I have many veterans in my family who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan on numerous tours. The difference in assistance they are receiving from the Obama Administration is much much better than what they received during the Bush years.
Better Education and Schools. FOR ALL CHILDREN. I already talked about it elsewhere. Congress hasn't acted. Of course. Losers.
Just what America needs. Another education program to waste more money.
For years our education for our kids have went down hill since the Dept. of education was set up. To much fraud and to much waste.
Im sure most of the money will go to big cities like NY where the kids can make big bucks selling drugs. They dont care about dying as long as those big bucks come in. These city kids are going to look at what is easier getting good grades or making money selling drugs. Sure some will take advantage of it but most wont. If these kids are going to have a chance the drug culture is going to have to change. and the Government is gonna have to crack down on these gangs heavily.
I dont think this new progam of Obama is going to get him many new votes as he intends for it to do. As to many people are out of work because of him. There has been to many broken promises from Obama, no moral courage to admit when he is wrong. And to many lies have been told by him.
No Pat, you're choosing to believe what you hear...problem is, you have to sort the truth from the fallacies.
First of all, Obama is NOT opting to change any cultural norms that are the root cause of the lack of education problem. And it IS a problem of almost insurmountable pproportions. The only way it will be solved is to create a culture of valuing education, and not creating children that one cannot educate. Currently, the black culture (see stats)is one where almost 3 of every 4 children born - are born out of wedlock, and more likely into poverty.
Obama states that this grand change to promote black education will be handled through Dept of Education. Of course...because they have been so successful to date.
Lastly, and even you will surely admit...if this was such a priority, this would have been handled in the first 15 minutes in office...okay, I'll cut him some slack - the first 15 months in office... Hmmm, guess it wasn't too pressing.
@Bobby-2359554
Where did you get that information?
As far as I know, Obama has done a lot for veteran. You could google and see what he did instead of using your old tactics of spouting lies and hope it stick.
You can't really believe this??? You have to be delusional to believe that. Do tell the many benefits that Michelle Obama and the Bidens "gave" to the vets....
LOL! Tax cuts for the middle class???? programs for forclosures???? as long as you have perfect credit.......
Prof, Congress had his bill in 2010. They won't act on it.
Presidents can't just come in and by magic change everything. It takes time, it takes study, it takes thought and then it takes more time to figure out a different way of doing things.
Especially our education system. It's massive. And it takes a lot of time to try and get it right. For the sake of these kids' futures, they're depending on us to get it right.
Yet Congress does nothing.
Perfect credit? Are you kidding? I hear people in work all the time on the telephone making deals with their credit card companies to get out of paying their balances. I personally don't know how they get away with it, but they do.
They get their deals. Time after time after time.
I know one couple who plan to just walk away from their house and let it foreclose. Just like that. They borrowed tons of money on their house and now they decided they can't afford the mortgage. So they're splitting.
I know another person who is going to short sale her house very shortly.
What is President Obama supposed to do? At what point do we ourselves take responsibility for the poor decisions we make?
LeftistReporting: "have went (sic)"? "to much waste, to much fraud (sic)" ? "wont (sic)*" ?
Can you explain how education failed you?
*(sic) = a term used by editors to explain they are merely reporting verbatim from somebody else who made the grammatical error.
Ok, I have to chime in, here. As a vet, I can say that Obama has been better than any Republican, when it comes to veteran care. But, this has ALWAYS been the case, when it comes to Democrats. Clinton even put some fantastic parking in my Denver VA hospital, and funded the VA fully, just like Obama. The Republicans support the war machine, NOT the veterans!
Obama just wants your vote, after that you are of no use to him.
Same thing he's doing to the Hispanics...pandering for votes with temporary work visas.
HARLEY Chic:
Youy are so right... And to prove that, ask Oprah... His Wife threw her under the bus once obama got elected... She also said that Oprah is to 'fat' to help her with her project.
P.S. I would laugh my Butt off is she swicthed to Romney's side.
Pat:
Please read what YOU just wrote:
"What is President Obama supposed to do? At what point do we ourselves take responsibility for the poor decisions we make?"
Poor decisions and poor choices are precisely the problem. I have noticed (as I'm sure other Newsvine readers have) that you continuously do not address the underlying reasons that the black culture does not promote education), but you try to divert attention, perhaps hoping we don't notice?
As long as there is a culture (ANY culture, race, nationality or creed) that does not endorse, promote or support education, it will exist in limited situations.
As long as there is a culture that endorses having as many children as you can schlep out, by as many fathers as you can bed, regardless of ability to feed, clothe or educate them - poverty will exist, and education will exist in limited situations.
As long as there is a culture that endorses that entitlements exist to be taken advantage of, that it makes more sense to receive entitlements rather than to work, then a culture will exist in the the modeling that is done for the children is a model of not working and living on entitlements.
As long as there is a culture that believes that it is some other person or entities duty to solve the problems that originate in the home, then a culture will exist that relies on the government to solve their problems. And the government cannot do it.
Roadkill, if Obama has done so much for veterans, why do I see so many ads on TV for "the Wounded Warrior Project"? These vets went into battle, got wounded, and are left out in the cold, so American citizens have to VOLUNTEER and DONATE to get these vets back on their feet! I am amazed that there appears to be no outrage by American's of the government's lack of assistance for these vets.
The politicians give themselves raises, while American veterans have to struggle to find a new life after service, based on donations. There must be something important I'm missing.
@Pat Boston MA.
Give me a @!$%#ing break. What the President recognizes is that his base has become disenfranchised so he's looking for last minute gimmicks to energize them. Nothing he has done in the last 6 months hasn't been calculated to maximize his chances in November. The idea that this is suddenly a priority after being a legitimate issue for DECADES without any political motivation is beyond laughable!
@Bill-328037
Which channel did you watch TV? I must say I don't watch TV at all simply because it is paid for by whichever parties that want those ads out.
Instead of watching TV, why don't you read about it from credible sites? It seems much better and more reliable than ads.
That's the problem with you, you watch ads on TV which the rich and super PAC spent millions to try to brainwash you to believe in.
Backcountry164
I am going to disagree withy your statement:
" Nothing he has done in the last 6 months hasn't been calculated to maximize his chances in November"
I think if you really look back he has been doing this since Jan 2009.
Dear Professor:
Yes some is cultural but much is because of systemic culling and denial. Who made it illegal for black people to attend school???? Who made knowing how to read a death sentence for black folks???? Who segregated schools and under funded and under supported black schools for decades???? FYI: Poor blacks are not the only ones dropping babies by many different daddies. Visit some poor white communities???? What is their excuse???? They have enjoyed every opportunity of their whiteness!!!!
Instead of just throwing stones, some of us would rather throw a lifeline. That you do not understand that, I get it!!!!
Prof? Really? What discipline did you graduate from? The School of Judgementalism?
Your words:
As long as there is a culture that endorses having as many children as you can schlep out, by as many fathers as you can bed, regardless of ability to feed, clothe or educate them - poverty will exist, and education will exist in limited situations.
As long as there is a culture that endorses that entitlements exist to be taken advantage of, that it makes more sense to receive entitlements rather than to work, then a culture will exist in the the modeling that is done for the children is a model of not working and living on entitlements.
I guess it means nothing that your negative description based on stereotypes really doesn't apply to most African-Americans? Did you know that an unprecedented number of Black households entered the middle-class in the 1990s (unfortunately the Great Recession reduced those gains)...teenage pregnancy is down...there are record numbers of African-Americans earning college degrees...etc.
Plus, were you not paying attention to Welfare Reform in the 1990s? There is a time limit and work requirement for cash benefits regardless of how many children you have. But perhaps you believe poor families should not get ANY government assistance, like food stamps.
Pat & Coung
My dad is a vet. He refuses to go near the VA. One of my wife's co-workers dad used the VA. The treatments were less than what you can get in the private sector. They missed his cancer diagnosis for months. Then they didn't go agressively after it. Finally they took him the Cleveland Clinic, but the VA delays made his stage of Cancer too late to survive.
You to believe in a system that is a failure, IS not getting fully funded, will never be fully funded, you don't participate in it so you don't know how it really works, and want all of America to be put into that system.
And BTW. Obama instituted the very end of life counselling that Bush tabled because it amounted to saying, "give up" and "just take an aspiring".
Pat Boston said,
"President Obama gave the wealthy their extended tax cuts last year because the rich said the cuts would create more jobs. They lied."
So Pat the President's claim of 27 straight months of job growth is a lie??
You can't have it both ways... either the jobs number claim is a lie or your statement is a lie .... which is it!!
Either way I have proved your comments are less than truthful!!
It's hard to see the truth through those rose colored glasses...
Must suck to be you with such a small view of reality!!
Typical racist lib. what is the NAACP for? What is the United negro college fund for? If we had any white organizations like this we'd be called racists. Wake up people the great divider is at it again.
Wrong! Men can and do get breast cancer. Though the majority of people getting breast cancer are female, it isn't exclusive. Just like there may be more blacks that ignore and avoid opportunities to get good educations, it isn't exclusive to them. There are uneducated people of every race. There are unemployed people of every race. You don't address the problems of society to the exclusion of all other races.
Pat Boston MA.
#2.13 "At what point do we ourselves take responsibility for the poor decisions we make?"
Indeed, sir, indeed.
Pat,
If you think we should take responsibility for the poor decisions we make, when will our Panderer-in-Chief take responsibility for the poor decisions he has made? You can't have it both ways, dear. Why should I take responsibility for my decisions when the president won't take responsibility for his stupidity?
Mr.PheaNiques:
You wrote: “It is a simple, undeniable fact that […] African American Children, suffer from a epidemic of academic success inadequacy... […] It isn't Racist to try to fight it (sic).”
You are missing the point. Trying to solve a problem that affects African American Children isn’t racist, in-and-of itself. It becomes racist when the person doing the problem solving is African American, and his solution purposely excludes all other racial and ethnic groups.
Charles-1820634
"Who made it illegal for black people to attend school????"
It is illegal for black people to attend school?
"Who made knowing how to read a death sentence for black folks????"
Is this the white people or black kids who see other black kids that are good students as sell outs?
"Who segregated schools and under funded and under supported black schools for decades????"
Never had a segregated school in my town.
"FYI: Poor blacks are not the only ones dropping babies by many different daddies. Visit some poor white communities???? What is their excuse???? They have enjoyed every opportunity of their whiteness!!!! Instead of just throwing stones, some of us would rather throw a lifeline. That you do not understand that, I get it!!!!"
I agree, so are you saying the white people that have it as bad as the black people do not deserve that lifeline, they just get the stones because sorry, they are not black, even though they have the same exact problems as the black community, this program is not for them?
And just what is this opportunity that comes with whiteness? Do we get discounts on education, or maybe a few extra points on the report card? Maybe we get 3 points if we can dunk a basketball instead of only 2 points? Wait, it must be that we get a discount at the movie theater?
President panderbear. Let's keep the racism and devisiveness going, Hussein.
Pat Boston, regarding you post of Thu Jul 26, 2012 12:54 AM EDT:
You claim that Obama recognizes that there is a problem, but the trouble I have accepting your premise as genuine, is that Obama has been president for over three years, and he is just now coming to grips with a problem that should have been his top priority the day after he was inaugurated.
If, as he claims, education and unemployment are the single most important issue for African Americans, then why has it taken him until four months before the election to act? Can you explain his lack of both initiative and action to the readers?
Apparently, Boston, you are unable to appreciate what is right in front of your eyes. You wrote: “He is recognizing that there is a problem. But from the posts here it doesn't appear anyone gives a damn.” Really? If the readers didn’t “gives a damn”, then you’d be staring at a blank page.
You wrote: “We Americans have a very bad habit of looking the other way when answers aren't so simple.” Sorry, but my family has been in America since the early 19th Century, and frankly, you don’t speak for me or any of my friends and relatives. In fact, your views do not coincide with the views of anyone that I know. We recognize many of the problems America faces, as do millions of other Americans, and we do what we can as individuals and as a small group to help as best we can, so please do not pretend to speak for us.
Realistically, if Obama had any real intentions of doing something substantial to improve the employment and educational prospects for African Americans, then why didn’t he do it while the Democrats held the majority in both houses of congress, when the likelihood for success was in his favor? One can only surmise that he didn’t believe it was a worthwhile pursuit.
There is no basis in truth for your claim that Americans “have let things slide for so many years and now it is President Obama who has to try and please everyone.” Once again, you do not speak for all Americans; you don’t even speak for some Americans; at best, you speak for yourself. And please stop pontificating.
Since the Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964, there have been dozens of laws passed by the Congress that benefit the Black Community. There have been dozens of Supreme Court decisions that have also benefited the Black Community. Perhaps you were one of the “bad habit” Americans that you mentioned who were looking the other way while these things were going down, and didn’t notice that America and Americans were doing their best to remedy past wrongs and help provide a better future for those people struggling in the present.
And please spare us your Obama campaign speech about what you think all Americans want. You have already demonstrated that you know little about what America wants, and nothing about what America needs.
Pat~ I was talking about YOUR post that you stated that Obama was doing something for foreclosures. It is now obvious by your rant that you have no idea about Obama's halfassed policies on foreclosures.
The first thing my Army drill sergeants taught us was that we were not white, black, yellow, red.... we were all green. All the same uniform. All soldiers. End of story. It's too bad America can't seem to embrace this concept.
It's sad but true. Most VA Hospital care differs from what you can buy with private insurance.
The president does want votes. I believe he does want to help the black community. It's definitely an issue in America. If money is offered to help, I would like to see this money REWARD good behavior. Maybe offer incentives to kids to get good grades, stay in school and study. Just throwing money at it doesn't seem to help. Reward parents who attend parent/teacher meetings. Give them small goals and rewards to achieve them. Let them seriously consider long term goals and reward them AFTER they achieve them. The money will then represent hard work, and study. It would build self esteem and confidence instead of seeming like a gov. hand-out.
KrisBy - You hit the nail on the head regarding VA hospitals and clinics. They do vary from state to state and some are more attentive than others.
DB Akron - I am sorry that the VA in your area did your father an injustice but I assure you not all VA clinics or hospitals are like that.
Prof - While I understand your need to interject stats into your rhetoric, your comments as a whole are way off base. If you have never been to one of the neighborhoods then you really have no basis to make the claims you are UNLESS they are strictly you opinion which I would highly encourage you to state. Most of the schools in these "fledgling" neighborhoods that I volunteer/coach in are not what you claim they are. The majority of black neighborhoods surprisingly have supportive parents that care and support the grossly under funded schools in their area and they perform well through all the adversity and "stereotypes" incurred by people as yourself.
I would encourage you to visit or even volunteer at one of the areas you so negatively look down upon(a minority neighborhood to be specific) and maybe you will learn something or even change your tune.
I will go on the record that midway through President Bush's first term in office that I received a call from the Veteran's Affairs Office stating that they noticed that some Veterans who were diagnosed with PTSD were never treated and wondered if I would be willing to come in. I nearly fell off my chair. I thanked them but told them that I had handled it on my own and found my own difficult road back. It had been 10 years and I saw no reason for me going back.
I thought buying votes was illegal!
It's just one of those pesky "law" things that Democrats have decided they ignore at will against the nation.
There has been practically nil illegal voting in this country. Most of the voting problems are because the poll workers, not the voters. And most of the problems are just stupid unintentional mistakes on the part of the poll workers.
The GOP admitted they are trying to help Romney win with these new laws. They admitted it.
Jeez, Pat. If your gonna make sensational claims can you at least have the balls to source it?
I thought "leaving no child behind" mean every American. If some groups actually fall below the national average, guess what? You help them to get to the rest.
That's what it means. I guess you simply just ignore them like you did with all minority groups that not fit your agendas.
Fils, this story about little to no illegal voting has been all over the news of late.
Pat Boston MA.
And you Believe everything you hear on the news?
Pat Please Note.... this is from the meeting between obama, Canada and Mexico. (This is how the US press sumed it up)
"The prime minister sat down for three hours today at the White House with President Barack Obama and Mexican President Felipe Calderon, and the three leaders emerged singing a song of trilateral harmony."
This is how Mexico and Canada press reported it....
Obama's neglect of our nearest neighbors and biggest trade partners has created deteriorating relations, a sign of a president who's out of touch with reality. Problems are emerging that aren't being reported.
Fortunately, the Canadian and Mexican press told the real story. Canada's National Post quoted former Canadian diplomat Colin Robertson as saying the North American Free Trade Agreement and the three-nation alliance it has fostered since 1994 have been so neglected they're "on life support."
Energy has become a searing rift between the U.S. and Canada and threatens to leave the U.S. without its top energy supplier.
The Winnipeg Free Press reported that Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper warned Obama the U.S. will have to pay market prices for its Canadian oil after Obama's de facto veto of the Keystone XL pipeline. Canada is preparing to sell its oil to China.
Until now, NAFTA had shielded the U.S. from having to pay global prices for Canadian oil. That's about to change.
SNIP
Excelsior of Mexico City reported that President Felipe Calderon bitterly brought up Operation Fast and Furious, a U.S. government operation that permitted Mexican drug cartels to smuggle thousands of weapons into drug-war-torn Mexico. This blunder has wrought mayhem on Mexico and cost thousands of lives.
The mainstream U.S. press has kept those questions out of the official press conferences, while Obama has feigned ignorance to the Mexicans and hasn't even apologized.
I believe what yankiwi is referring to is the spoils system practice of raiding the Federal Treasury to buy votes with programs. No cash at the polling stations. The practice of using the financial power of the United States Government to buy votes in large numbers, not by by some petty scheme at the precinct level.
Obama did not invent spoils system, but he is good at it. Chicago politics at its finest---reward your friends, punish your enemies. And make the government pay for it.
@Pat Boston MA.
So you're unwilling to provide a source why exactly?
Pat: What news? NBC etc., etc.,....?
Pat Boston Ma
No voter fraud? then why did obama himself say this about ACORN (Ya remember them don't ya?)
The Obama campaign is now distancing itself from Acorn, claiming Mr. Obama never organized with it and has nothing to do with illegal voter registration. Yet it's disingenuous to channel cash into an operation with a history of fraud and then claim you're shocked to discover reports of fraud. As with Rev. Jeremiah Wright and William Ayers, Mr. Obama was happy to associate with Acorn when it suited his purposes. But now that he's on the brink of the Presidency, he wants to disavow his ties.
There you go again; trying to mislead. There was no fraud ever associated with ACORN, hence no one has been prosecuted and jailed for it. Mickey mouse home movies created by silly mouseketeers, does not account for fraud. ACORN problems stemmed from untrained workers and lacking supervision, which eventually caused their demise, like so many other organizations in America. I defy you to reference just one incident of fraud charged and prosecuted???? And, if you cannot do that, I would stop rambling about this none issue!!!!
if you believe anything you just wrote, I have something I want to sell ya. WAKE UP!!
The United States has enormous structural problems that must first be addressed before any underlying problems can effectively be resolved. Our trade deficit with China and burdensome oil imports account for a disproportionally large percentage of our total deficit. Functionally, our economy cannot grow and create enough jobs without a regime change in Washington, D.C. Conservatives like to complain that Barack Obama is the most liberal president we’ve ever had, a closet Marxist who’s determined to turn America into a socialist hell and that his despotic socialist agenda is the big lie of the twentieth century.
What is evident is that Obama's policies and programs have been the functional equivalent of a waging war on America, the Catholic church, US Christians, success, small business and American socioeconomic thinking! The once proud Democratic party literally been hijacked by socialists whose actions make it appear as if they are hell bent on destroying capitalism. All principled members of the democratic party would therefore be well advised to abandon Obama’s candidacy and their party line vote for the long term good of our country! Retreat and return to fight another day when the Democratic party can submit a candidate who is willing to uphold traditional American values rather than to attempt to destroy the country from within.
Then, once regime change in Washington, D.C. has been achieved, we can reestablish focus on structural change including an aggressive multipronged movement toward energy independence focusing on both renewable energy sources and domestic oil, curb health care mandates and costs induced by ObamaCare, examine and modify overreaching business regulations and move to reduce our trade imbalance with China.
I wish he had been more specific - AK's belong in the hands of communist soldiers - keep that crap out of this country - We will buy American!
Duh...sorry, I somehow posted inthe wrong story.
To all posting about voter fraud: yankiwi's post has nothing to do with that or are you all too wrapped up in your own self righteousness to see the meaning, or, maybe you just want to avoid the obvious fact that Oblahblah is a pandering fool! I hope this puts the final nail in his proverbial coffin. One and fkng done! Finally!
Pat Boston:
Ethically, if you're asked to cite a source, then you should cite the source of your information. If, as you say, the stories have been all over the news lately, then you shouldn't have a problem citing a source to support your claims.
It's your credibility at stake. I cite sources without being asked. Scroll up and check. That's why my credibility is impeccable.
Programs, and MORE programs. Of COURSE all of these programs are run out of D.C. and will require a bigger government along with MORE of our tax dollars to run it !
Talk about reverse discrimination... a program just for "BLACK" Americans. What happened to the notion that "WE" are ALL Americans ???
This guy is the MOST divisive president in the history of the U.S. !!!
"What happened to the notion that "WE" are ALL Americans ?"
It disappeared when America got a president who preferred foreign criminals to U.S. citizens (their votes are easier to buy).
I guess those "African" are not American enough for you guys. What happened to "No child left behind"? Oh I guess since they are minority, you don't care.
Its_for_real: Reverse discrimination is an artificial legal construct invented by an activist conservative Supreme Court in the Bakke decision in 1975 to eradicate affirmative action.
Reverse discrimination does not exist because whites were never discriminated against in the first place. Affirmative action came about because history proved blacks have suffered as a result of slavery and discrimination for more than 480 years; it is an attempt to fix an actual problem.
Obama is the most reviled President in history not because of his politics, which are to the right of center and pretty much exactly where the Republican Party was in the 1990s under erstwhile House Speaker Newt Gingrich--but because of the color of his skin.
The most divisive president in history? Not in the least; he is incredibly catholic* in this respect--but America is divided, because racism is very deeply ingrained in the American character, and his presidency has fomented a vicious backlash affecting all blacks adversely since 2009.
*catholic, adj. embracing a wide variety (nothing to do with religion)
DEE...
I think if people would just stop and look at what he and his crew are trying to do to America...
Divide and Conqure... Pit the Balck against the Whites, the Poor against the Rich,
He wants to throw this country into chaos, and Then he will make his Move...
@Proud2BaVet
So, tell me how did Obama divide and conquer?
What policy did he use?
From the start, GOP said they will make Obama "a one term president". That is what their mantra for the last 4 years.
Again, tell me how did Obama did all what you said?
Um, No!!!! America was divided long before Mr. Obama was born???? However, it is more cohesive now than at any other time in our history. Some people cannot get their heads around the fact that racism isn't allowed to run as rampant as in the past????
us working people can afford it, right??? I think they think we all have money trees growing in our back yard. What a freaking joke.
It's pandering, as I see it. And that is unfortunate for those to whom it is aimed. Pandering often is.
Nguyen
Of course they want to make him a one term President, do you think the DNC sat down and tried to figure out how to make Bush a two term President?
Dee - What has the colour of his skin got to do with his ability to lead? There have been other black leaders who were recognized for their abilities. Colin Powell could have and would have been a very powerful and effective black LEADER.
He isn't reviled for the colour of his skin. He is reviled because of his lack of leadership. Going behind closed doors to push a personal agenda and then rubbing it in the face of your opponents is not conducive to good leadership. Constantly berating members of the opposing party becaue of their "inflexibility" to pass his budget while simultaneously ignoring his own party refusing to pass his budget is not a sign of good leadership.
Dee Turner,
#5.3 "Reverse discrimination does not exist because whites were never discriminated against in the first place. Affirmative action came about because history proved blacks have suffered as a result of slavery and discrimination for more than 480 years; it is an attempt to fix an actual problem."
I find that view incredible, and I strongly disagree, even though I as strongly acknowledge that you are entitled to your own opinion. If you are familiar with the Bakke Decision, I'm at a loss as to how you can not see he was wronged. At least, that is what I take from your post. And you jump to a conclusion, I think, when you attach a purpose to the Supremes who ruled at the time.
The president told the largely African American crowd of roughly 3,700 people that the executive order will seek to improve educational achievement for African Americans at all levels “so every child has greater access to a complete and competitive education from the time they’re born to the time, all through the time they get a career” the president said to cheers.
Great speech this evening by President Obama. And as usual he received a heart warming welcome from the crowd, as he does everywhere he goes.
It is so inspiring when we have a president who, despite having to run against someone who has a spokesman saying that our president doesn't understand "anglo saxon" history, takes the time to talk about serious issues affecting the black community. He wants us all to succeed, regardless of race or religion.
He is the president of all of us, not just a select few.
There are lovely photos over at The Obama Diary from tonite's speech.
http://theobamadiary.com/
. hopefully your remark was said with your tongue in your cheek ...
. if not, please put it there . . .
.
Yeah....Pat....take from the rich to give to the poor...class warfare....that's all Barack Hussein Obama knows....but..that was his only real job...a community aggitator....
dixie girl, you and the rest of the people here are heartless. You should all be banned.
Pat...we still have freedom of speech...at least for now...King Obama will be going home in January 2013....he needs to start packing...
studies show blacks are intellectually inferior to other races. Just as blacks embrace being athletically superior to others, they should also admit their intellect lags behind other races. No amount of money and "special treatment" is going to change the black race. Bill Cosby was right about blacks, not Obama.
dixie girl, you will be surprised at how many people in this country actually want the president to succeed. You will just have to get used to the fact that most people in this country aren't like you. Thank goodness.
Jason, isn't that what the Germans said about the Jews? Why yes as a matter of fact. You have a real hateful outlook on people. You seem to be the inferior one here.
President Obama isn't inferior to anyone, especially Romney, the guy with all the money but not much else.
Well our education system has been lowered several times to accommodate the American blacks. In turn the standards were cheating the other children from a proper well rounded education. America has one of the lowest standards in the Free world. Other countries. like Japan, who has a high school graduate equivalent to our 4 year college degree. That is sad. England has 5,6 year olds speaking fluently 2 or 3 languages, where American children can barely speak English. Talk about RACISM, Obama is one the biggest racist like, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, NAACP, Louis Farrakhan. Martin Luther king is rolling over in his grave! America is heading straight to HELL.
Pat... Jason needs to be banned. Nobody in there right mind would think or believe that junk. I am sure you understand Jason and his ilk are not taken intellectual seriously by anyone in these comments.
Hereigns - Free speech, or reality for that matter, wasn't meant to be allowed to disagree with your liberal fantasy was it?
Json's experiences and common-sense observations are far more accurate than what you have been told you should think.
Did any Africans come over on the Mayflower or any subsequent trips to settle this country? No. They were Anglo-Saxons. Obama is trying to buy more votes just like he did with the immigration executive order. He is disgusting. No class. By the way. How many million has he paid to seal his Harvard transcripts, Columbia transcripts, thesis paper. Who paid for his education? Also, when did he reside in Massachusetts? He has a Social Security card issued from that state. If he was born in Hawaii (cough, cough), his number should be from there. He keeps insisting Romney release his tax returns, how about Obama releasing some of his sealed records. People had no idea who was when he was running for President but it is now time to find out who the real Obama is.
Thank you Pat for your insight and not letting all the bigots upset you. You seem like a person who knows what they are talking about. I feel that most people support our president except for the few that spill there hatred on these blogs. God Bless you Pat.
Actually, Pat and HeReigns, there are mild genetic differences between the sundry races. There's also some evidence that Americans with a good deal of African heritage perform, on average, better athletically than their white, asian or hispanic counterparts. (Eugenics and natural selection figure into it). There's even some evidence that seems to indicate that blacks, on average, slightly trail the other races in basic intellectual measures. This is not an indictment of black people nor does it indicate exceptionalism in the other races. It's no different than the fact that black people are more likely to have B+ blood while whites are more O than anything else. There are still a lot of really smart black folks, and lord knows there's a boatload of idiots of all colors.
@ Pat, I second what Joe said. I love the way you have not let these racist haters rattle your cage. A feat that I am unable to conqure. They don't make any sense and as usual they are canaries, repeating propoganda that was spoon fed to them. But that's the thing about hate. They know that most of what they say are not true. My mom use to have a saying "It doesn't have to be true, it just have to hurt. That is what these people are doing. President Obama will be re-elected and they will have 4 more years in which to blow a gasket. and live in fear that "King" Obama is going to take over the world.
Gunn(numbers): The Mayflower landed in America long after blacks had already been here for more than 250 years. Find a better history book.
gunn62-3101544
I am with you as far as finding out who this guy is where he came from...
Here are a few 'tid bits' for everyone to think about:
"My Father served in WWII"
His father would have been between the ages of 3 - 9 years old. His stepfather would have been between 4 - 10 years old.
" I had an Uncle that served in WWII that was one of the first American Troops to go into Auschwitz and liberate the concentration camp"
First, obama did not have an uncle that served in thye4 US Army and secound the Russians were the ones you liberated the Auschwitz Concertration Camp in January 1945...There also no record of American forces entering the camp.
And I saved the best for last:
President Obama just can't seem to keep track of birthdays, especially his own! After spending more than two years in office deflecting questions surrounding his birth, the commander in chief said on Friday, July 15th, he announced that he'd be turning 50 in a week.
But According to his "REAL" Birth certificate says he was born on August 4th... 3 weeks different,,, WHY?
In 2009, he said he was 52 years old... But then in 2010, he was 48 years old, then in 2011 he was 50 years old... As all his follower say he is the smartest man in the world but he doesn't even know how old he is or when his Birthday is... (My 5 year old Grandson, knows he is 5 and he can even tell you his Birth Date)..
Dee Turner:
Sorry I think yyou missed the date by a few Hundred years:
The first African American arrived in the U.S. in 1619 and were sold by a Dutch man-of-war to the settlers of Jamestown. Then later on a lot more arrived to fill the desire of labor. By the end of the 17th century, there were about 1,300,000 Africans that had landed in the New World (aka the U.S.).
Read more: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/When_did_the_first_African_American_arrive_in_America#ixzz21hy6L2Vt
If this were true then you have proof of discovery prior to Columbus. This in consideration that the Irish and Vikings are not given teh credit of discovery as there is no proff. 250 years puts the idea of discovery at 1351 the end of the Feudal Age and the start of the Renaissance.
@gunn:
The short answer--No! However, they came in the hull of slave ships shackled and bound, and against their wills. They spent the next 100 years helping America prosper and did not receive one red cent for their labor. Until you can find just one of those Mayflower elitist that have done the same, I would not try and put down something for which you apparently have no knowledge. Agreed????
@Vet:
African did not arrive!!!! They were brought here in shackles as chattel, and against their wills. Others may have arrived but blacks was brought. A good vet would know his history!!!!
Pat, you would be surprised how many people want him gone in NOv. Step out of the liberal East and come to reality for awhile. You guys have drank the kool-aid for way to long, no hope for ya.
and if you read the history books the slaves were sold to us by other blacks.
Joe Hine
#6.13 " the few that spill there hatred on these blogs."
More than a few, from what I've read in the few months I've been on this site. And it does not appear to be cornered by political ideology, race, ethnicity, or gender.
Sad observation, sad commentary.
This prez had over three and a half years to deal with the problem...so why do you think he waited until election season to raise the issue..???? You don't really think it was because of the election do you..????? OUR prezident wouldn't do that...would he..?????
Any time preference is given based on SKIN COLOR--that's DISCRIMINATION!!! There are lots of kids of all COLORS that badly needmoney to continur their education---and who appreciate EDUCATION!!!
If B. Hussein (professed BLACK man--though really a 'zebra") wants to promote education among blacks--then how about old Jesse and AL donating some of theri millions to scholarship funds?
I don't want MY TAX DOLLARS being handed out soley on skin color----THAT'S DISCRIMINATION!!!!
Discrimination has been going on in this country for generations. No one seemed to much care.
When the blacks moved up from the south after the Civil War, once they were FREED FROM SLAVERY btw, they began moving north so that their children could grow up with good schools and good neighborhoods. And what did the good middle class whites do? They moved out.
FAST.
So now we have a president who wants to recognize their struggles in these troubling times, and look at what he is called. By Americans. By so-called decent Americans.
Historically, the English set the rules. They discriminated against everyone. So the Irish stuck together and helped each other. The Italians stuck together and helped each other. The Jews stuck together and helped each other. And so on.
No one helped the African American community. No one wanted to live near them or hire them. They were discriminated against by everyone for years and years and years.
So now they have a president who wants to see their children have a future. A good future. Like you and I. It's what every single President should want for every single child in this country, regardless of color.
Go vote for Romney. We want nothing to do with any of you.
You are as much as ass as Obama. The only thing Obama recognizes his what he can do or get for himself. He is BUYING BLACK VOTES. How stupid are you? Obama doesn't give a rats tail about the black Americans or anyone else for that matter. The American backs were sold by there people and sent in the long run to a better life than back in Africa. Who are you fooling. Just about EVERY other nationality and religion has had it rougher and for a longer period than the American blacks. Wake up and get a life. Your liberalism is a disease, an illness.
I am so sick hearing people whine because their ancestors were held in slavery. Fact is that most every man woman and child in America can trace back to ancestors that were held in slavery - including all Whites. The Romans and virtually every other conquering country of Europe enslaved those they conquered. The gladiators were all slaves that were forced to fight to the death. Egyptians had slaves and most all were White. In fact, they at one time enslaved the Jewish population. Get over it!
Fuzzy, President Obama isn't BUYING BLACK VOTES. The blacks are going to vote for him. Practically 100%. They sure as hell aren't going to vote for a Republican, especially Romney.
Romney is the one buying this election.
btw, what's with the voter suppression going on all around the country? Are the GOP afraid they won't win fairly? Why yes, as a matter of fact, that's exactly what they think. They admitted it.
The GOP is going to try and steal the election. Not the blacks. The Republican Party.
Watermoon, the point of the ancestry from all those years ago is to prove a point. Look at these statements here. People haven't much changed their racism tendencies. Have they?
Hey pat, nobody is suppressing votes. The states are trying to enforce the law that only legal citizens vote!!!!!
Pat Boston MA.- You are correct that the GOP will not get a fair election. The American citizens will be cheated from a legitimate election. There are many accounts that were documented and people arrested as well as ACORN, New Black Panthers and other liberal radical groups have threatened and assaulted people at the voting booth. George Soros bought the polling company in Spain that works on our elections. Yes, Corruption from the Democrat side is A GUARANTEE. To what degree is not known right now. But the Democrats have already proven they are a corrupt, socialist, communist party, now in America full force. The Democrats want the illegal alien, deceased people, underage, it doesn't matter how many times some one votes for the Democrats. The Democrats do not want a fair, legal election, because they will lose! Hands down! They know it .
Pat, many of those blacks will vote for Obama because he is considered black.
Racism also exists in the black community.
And I'm really proud of your mayor. Saying that Chick-Fil-A isn't welcome because of their views and beliefs. Isn't that quite a display of bigotry as well?
Pat boston You are a typical liberal. Twist thing to your own perspective. If you really had the education you would have others believe you wouldn't be spewing the racist crap that shows your ignorance.
GED teacher: Newsflash! New York City is 80% minority--meaning, no 'minority' at all. More than half the people born in this nation last year are non-white. Your white racist days cannot stand, all politics aside, because people keep falling in love, and they make babies.
Zebras? Really? Wait until the 'zebras' self-actualize and begin voting as a block.
Your perspective is frankly evil but fortunately, soon to be obsolete.
Pat Boston MA and DEE Turner:
"blacks are going to vote for him. Practically 100%"...
Can you tell me how can that be when Whole congregations say they will not vote for him... Even his own pastor is disappointed in him...
I think you better go back and refigure your %'s
Wow. Rev. Dr. Emmett Burns, a prominent black pastor at the Rising Sun Baptist Church in Baltimore, spoke out publicly against Obama’s decision to support same-sex marriage. In an interview with CNN, he stated that his congregation not only does not support Obama, but they will stay home on November 6th. And, Reverend Burns is not the only one. Many other pastors across the country are, also, speaking out against the president during their Sunday sermons. Even Obama’s own pastor is disappointed, saying his decision to support gay marriage “may hurt the African American community’s support of the president”.
Vet, there you go again???? Wishful thinking only. Blacks will support this president, not because he is black, but because he is democrat!!!! Blacks of the modern era have always supported democrats. Although, the majority of blacks could not vote at the time, the majority of those eligible to vote, voted for Roosevelt! Every democrat since that time have received from 78% to 98% every election, because black people vote their interest as well as America's interest, not like some people in the country. Preachers say many things, much of it untrue. I can assure you that those preachers are talking for themselves. Black people hear them, but are intelligent enough to make up their own mind. Any self-respecting black person knows that the trouble he has is not because of gays, and they don't give a fig about gay marriage. They leave that silliness to the faux noise watchers.!!!!
Pat in Boston -
Historically, the English set the rules. They discriminated against everyone. So the Irish stuck together and helped each other. The Italians stuck together and helped each other. The Jews stuck together and helped each other. And so on.
No one helped the African American community.
Would this include the African American community? From your post you say the other groups stuck together and helped themselves. The same cannot be said of the African American community? Then where does blame begin?
wow Dee, who is racist?? Look in the mirror.
Pat Boston - you say Obama "takes the time to talk about serious issues affecting the black community. He wants us all to succeed, regardless of race or religion." I wouldn't disagree about his intentions. However, he worked on similar issues in Chicago. He brought Arnie Duncan from Chicago where he worked on school reform for Black students, who make up about 45% of Chicago's school population. How did that work out?
"Many years of reform efforts and programs targeting low-income families in Chicago Public Schools has only widened the performance gap between white and African-American students, a new study by the University of Chicago Consortium on School Research finds, writes Joel Hood at the Chicago Tribune.
Despite progress across the country, black elementary school students in Chicago have lost ground to their white, Latino and Asian classmates in testing proficiency in math and reading. " (EducationNews2011)
Proposing a similar program nationwide is ill advised. This President, and this Sec. of Education, are unfortunately clueless as to what will work. Good intentions are continually hurting the African-American community. The more "help" provided by the Government, the more performance has suffered. Let local communities do it themselves - and if they fail (which some surely will), they will live with their failure, as Chicago does today.
.
. . . If you plan to vote for BO . . . you are part of the problem . . .
.
. . . the assisted students will never read the Federalist Papers . . .
. . . they will never understand . . .
.
How about voting for neither Obama or Romney. That is the problem with Americans. You actually believe either will change anything. If you look at the differences between the two. You won't see much. Republicans and Democrats aren't going to change anything.
Our ENTIRE Government needs to be started over, with fresh new people. People who will know what the American citizens want out of them, and EXPECT from them. They work for the American citizens, not themselves. This is going to be the ONLY way to turn America around. The government is not on the path our forefathers left us to follow. America has been off path for some time now. It has just blown up in 2008. Obama is just the icing on the cake. A puppet from Hell! America MUST MAKE A CHANGE, or suffer the future.
So many posts here represent desperate cries from a generation of aging white folk who feel themselves losing their grip on power. Unfortunately, you also completely buy into the corporate agenda that owns our government and wants to destroy you--you think maybe, maybe!-- someday you, too, might be the 1%. Not gonna happen, and you continue to vote against your own very real interests and concerns.
So vote as Teabags and lose all your benefits while the wealthy continue to extract your wealth and hide it by the trillions in offshore accounts to avoid paying taxes you yourselves continue to pay at increasingly high rates.
Continue to vilify our President because of the color of his skin--you don't fool anybody but yourselves.
Did you dodge the Viet Nam draft by staying in the college your parents paid for? Were you the people calling in bomb scares and starting campus fires to get 'free days?' DId you let your freak flag fly so long as you could keep the old lady barefoot and pregnant? I know a generation of self-absorbed older white men so bitter they've unconsciously turned against themselves.
I wake up every day happy to know our President's still there. You may yourselves come to miss these days in the future. If not, well-I'm sorry you will have missed this fulfillment of the American Dream, which has perhaps passed you by because prejudice has made you blind.
I would rather have had us all get there together. Sorry you don't feel the same.
Exactly right. Force public owned corporations to pay our minimum wages wherever they go. This would bring back millions of jobs and show a little respect for labor.
The capital gains tax where most giant money is made is only 15% before loopholes. Our big corporations are making record profits and paying low to no taxes. Their government gives them special treaties and tax breaks for outsourcing
Big banks have beebn getting billions in o% loans. They are using that money to drive up the price of oil and other essentials. The pigs are robbing us with our own money. Both parties know this and are doing nothing about it.
Why should anyone pay a bank 600k for a 200k house, even when the government or the tax payers back the loan? All government guaranteed loans should be made directly for a small interest. This would cut house notes and rentals by half or more and leave trillions in the hands of our people instead of thieving banks.
Neither party is even talking about the real solutions and what must be changed if we are to avoid depression and chaos. We are in bad need of a government.
Mass force from the people is our only hope. These pigs we call leaders will not act.
May G*D help you.
it is very sad. They hold themselves back. For God sakes we have a black President. Go to college be a Dr., who is stopping you?? Last time I checked, it was yourselves.
Dee Turner
#8.3 "the wealthy continue to extract your wealth and hide it by the trillions in offshore accounts to avoid paying taxes you yourselves continue to pay at increasingly high rates."
Uh, Dee, if you are referring to the top 1% of taxpayers, they aren't doing as good a job as you might think in avoiding federal income tax (FIT). They paid over a third of the total FIT bill. 36.7% in 2009. I've only looked at IRS charts over the last 30 or so years, and their share of the total FIT burden has gradually been increasing, from about 19% to the current percentage.
1 out of a hundred pays for 1 out of 3, as far as FIT goes, anyway. A different take on 'fair share.' Nope, my wife and I are not close to 'rich' as defined herein. And, nope, I'm not crying a river for these 'rich', either. But there are different ways to look at things.
On that bit about the wealthy taking my wealth, I've read and heard that time and again, and I don't exactly understand it. Can you expound on what you mean by that?
Thanks.

Dee Turner, regarding your post of Thu Jul 26, 2012 2:25 AM EDT:
I am a 61-year-old disabled white man. Please tell me where I can find this power on which you believe I'm losing my grip. Please tell me where this power was when I was in my 20's 30's 40's and 50's, because for some reason, it seems to have eluded me all my life.
Please explain to me how a corporate agenda can own anything; or destroy anything? Do you even know what an agenda is? Tell the readers the names of the corporations who have the agendas, and who their leaders are? Outline the objectives of these corporate agendas? Tell us why these agendas are bad for America? Why do you want to redistribute wealth in America, and how is that consistent with the traditional American way of life? Tell me Turner, why should I buy into your extrem socialist ideology?
You claim that the Teabag Party wants to strip me of my benefits, but you don't offer any sustainable evidence to support your claims. Why should I believe your socialist rant when you don't respect my intelligence enough to offer proof for your assertions?
Tell the readers how are the wealthy extracting my wealth? Tell the readers why they should begrudge an American businessperson his tax break, if it is legal for him to deposit earnings made from foreign business transactions in a corporate account in a foreign bank? Isn't that the "us against them" socialist ideology of derision and class conflict that you're asking the readers to embrace?
Can you understand that the majority of American criticize and malign Obama for his policy failures and lies, and that only a small majority vilify him because of the color of his skin?
Do you find it easy to forget that this president would be playing basketball in Chicago if it were not for the millions of white voters who had faith in his message? The millions of whites who believed that he could change America for the better, and who are now disappointed that he failed to keep his promises, and instead, became a socialist ideologue, determined to change the core values of this country into something that no American would recognize?
Are you a subconscious racist that hates white people and the white culture without really knowing what it is; only what you've been told it is? Are you playing the race card, because you know that playing the truth card makes Obama look bad?
I know of multiple generations of self-pitying black people who see themselves as victims instead of participants; who've denied themselves a piece of the American dream because some narrow minded fools through music and entertainment told them it wasn't meant for blacks, and they were foolish enough to believe them without asking questions.
I know that soon, this man in the White House will be gone. I know that millions of white folk gave him a chance to lead the most powerful country in the free world, and that he wasn't up to the task. I know that a politically astute former president, who embarrassed this country with his sexual antics, recently called Obama an amateur.
I know that you are black, and that you so desperately wanted this man to succeed so you could have something that would solidify your sense of belonging and inclusion.
I am white, and I'm just as disappointed in Obama as many black folks are, because I believed in him too, but I'm not as stubborn as you are. I guess it's because I don't have the emotional investment that you do. However, I don't see this as the end. I see this as the beginning.
It won't work obama does not want then to go to school-he wants then under his thumb(WELFARE)
All Democrats think this way. Look to Chicago. Under Democratic rule for 60-70 years and the Blacks are still enslaved by welfare entitlements and living in tenement housing. Toss them scraps but keep them enslaved by dependency - the Democratic way!
Look at California, it has been run by majority democrat in the legislature for the past 40 years. (Schwartzenegger (sic) doesn't count, he was a closet dem). California is a crap hole. They pass more legislation to benefit the illegals than they do to help citizens. 16B deficit and what does moonbeam do? He gives the unions a huge raise in retirement benefits.
Special Ed. Worker: Please reference a citation to confirm your 'facts.' Gov. Brown has not most definitely not given "the unions a huge raise in retirement benefits."
Most of us employed in the public sector in California were required in part to purchase our retirement benefits and contribute to our pension plans--and now that we have retired, our benefits keep getting chiseled, right and left. Those who came in after us have had to buy their retirement benefits altogether!
For example, the Affordable HealthCare Act that now allows you to keep your adult children on your plans to age 26, and free preventive care for all of you, doesn't apply to us because the Act provides waivers to public sector employers that provide pensions. We continue to have to prove, every fall & spring, our kids are still in college, and we can keep them on our policies only until age 23, whether or not in college. We still have co-pays for our preventive healthcare--while you do not.
We were guaranteed free health care upon retirement when we signed on--but that promise was broken a long time ago.
We paid into Social Security for many years before accepting public service careers--and now our Social Security benefits are deducted from our pensions--taken away, in other words, although we paid in for years. We get no Social Security even though what we paid in was before we took public sector jobs.
We accepted lower paying salaries than our equals in the private sector, in return for these promised benefits that have been whittled away--and continue to be whittled away. I lost approximately a minimum of $50,000 a year as a deputy district attorney, compared to what a private defense attorney could make. Actually, they make far more than that!! But I was honored to represent the People in prosecuting felons. I could not have taken the money to defend criminals.
Available healthcare plans now limit the healthcare we receive. It doesn't cover dental implants, or orthodontics, or certain surgeries, and has monetary caps that are new. Better health plans are now completely off the table--we're forced into Kaiser, whose performance is abysmally poor, at least, in our part of the state.
And this public sector government lawyer never even had the option to be in a union!
So where do you get your "information," pray tell?
Dee,
Special Ed. Worker seems to be from a part of the country (pretty much everything outside of California and New York) that is still backwards and primitive. He also probably still believes that blacks are 3/5 of a person, that just because some stupid law says certain kinds of immigration are a crime that it is actually something bad (it's not), that Julian Assange is guilty of 'treason' (despite the fact that he is not a US citizen), and that the role of women is to raise children and make sandwiches. Unlike advanced civilizations like California and New York, he doesn't seem to realize that having EVERYBODY educated equally is more important than someone saving tax money to buy a new big screen TV to watch American Idol and Fox News on. Education is more important than making a profit.
We have a radical racist in the WH...if this were a white POTUS...there would be riots in the streets...the November election canno't come soon enough...this community aggitator needs to go back to his old job...
We already have affirmative action...isn't that enough for him...oh I forgot he is a product of that....
dixie girl: Sadly, your web name eliminates yours as unbiased posts. Your elected title defeats any credibility you might otherwise claim.
Obama is to the right of middle--exactly where the Republican Party was in the 1990s. It's the nation that's swung so far to the right. And affirmative action was defeated by a ruling of an activist conservative Supreme Court in the Bakke decision, in 1975.
Our president graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law, and was elected President of the Harvard Law Review. I realize you may not know what any of that means, but what it means is: he's the most well-educated, most brilliant, most sophisticated president we've had since Teddy Roosevelt.
Those are facts.
Plus Special Ed, you for got to mention Dukemazen, Ronald Regan, and Pete Wilson. Yep good ole Pete. Don't blame you for trying to forget him!!!!
It's a fact Dee? Then why have Obama's college records been sealed, for years? We know Bush's college scores, and you lefties laughed and laughed. Obama's record? As secretive as the ACA negotiations. What a transparent president he is. Anybody can see he's a communist racist, so I guess that's some sort of transparency. I don't like Mitt Romney and won't vote for him in November, but all you folks seem to forget the popular vote MEANS NOTHING. The electoral college elects the president. If you're not on it, you may as well not vote in presidential elections. Take 15 minutes and read the U.S. Constitution people.
Hey Romney, here's your base. Look at their comments. Hope you're proud. We surely don't want them in our party.
Pat....do you really think I would want to be a left wing liberal....like yourself...you are what's wrong with this country...
I am surprised Obama State Run Media didn't hide this article deep into the bowels of this site. But thinking about it, to call those who disagree racists is a campaign strategy. Divide and conquer. People, we need to expose these candidates so we don't get deeply disturbed and misguided presidents who are unable to perform their responsibilities without creating class rifts the size of the Grand Canyon. I guess we get what we vote for. Simply said, we need a person now to unite not divide in getting us through the economic down turn we have and will experience.
dixie, there's nothing wrong with me. Women had to fight in order to get the right to vote. Imagine that? Men didn't want women to have any rights. Their pay was much much lower than the men's, even though both had the same backgrounds and educations.
Women died in clothing factories because of poor building codes. Young women. Jumped to their deaths. That's right. They were beaten up when they marched for equal rights.
Blacks weren't allowed on white buses, they weren't allowed to eat in white restaurants, they weren't allowed to go to white movie theaters, weren't allowed to send their children to good white schools.
There were actual laws in the south forbidding them from living a life like every other free American. Laws.
Liberals. You can thank liberals, who fought back. You on the other hand, continue to hate.
You're a sell out.
Men had to fight for rights as well. Ever heard of the American Revolution? Quit whining as if you were the only ones ever abused. Impressed seamen were castrated, blinded, and then force to row as galley slaves by the Tripoli pirates. Blacks are not the only race that was ever enslaved - get over it!
Pat, you are truly sick and the problem with America. Liberalism is an illness, a sickness. You believe in a Socialist, Communist country, move to Russia, Iran, etc. You people are destroying our country and one day there will be a change, just like 200 years ago. That day will come. We will be rid of your type of mentally ill people, draining the American taxpayers. We will overcome you people. Germany eventually did, and now they are a very secure country, for the better. Better than America. America is bankrupt, mentally and financially!
Fuzzy, this country was almost destroyed time and time again by the Republicans. And if you want to talk about draining the American taxpayer, look at this:
Examiner.com
A new report released Sunday estimates that the United States Treasury loses $280 billion a year in tax revenue from wealthy Americans and companies keeping their money in off shore bank accounts in tax havens. The report estimated between $21 trillion and $32 trillion is held in these offshore accounts.
And-
HuffingtonPost:
The 2011 argument about the debt ceiling--the most recent battle--cost the U.S. government about $1.3 billion in extra borrowing costs, according to a new study by the Government Accountability Office, the nonpartisan congressional watchdog.
__________
But this is all okay.
Just let's not help the children in this country. Black children. It cost money.
Hey Pat!! Since when are the republicans the only rich peope in America. YOU do know that Buffet, Kerry, Gore, Polozei, Fienstien, Rockerfeller, and many of the richest members of congress are DEMOCRATS. And YES they too have off shore accounts. You are sooo clueless, go spout your propaganda somewhere else.
Special Ed. Worker: No where did I say that only rich are Republican. The above post was in answer to the draining of the American taxapayer post. Look at what the debt ceiling fight cost us. This was done by the GOP.
Secondly, we as a nation need these rich people to stop banking their money elsewhere. No where did I say these people were all republicans. I was merely stating the obvious. The wealthy are killing us with their greed.
Romney's money is off shore. He's running for the presidency. He's setting a very bad example by helping to drain our economy.
As far as I know, the president does not have off shore accounts.
As to my first sentence about the Republicans almost destroying this country, I was referring to the usual suspects - Bush, Cheney, etc. They were the clueless ones.
Pat Boston MA: Thank you for allowing me to believe some good people still exist. I get very depressed reading these posts, although I'm aware they don't represent most of us.
Pat Boston MA.
First I would like to talk Race... It was Obama and his crowd that keeps bring it up... Holder said that requiring an ID was Racist (Answer US this, how can requiring an ID FROM EVERYONE even come CLOSE to being RACIST) then Biden told the NAACP that if a Romney gets into office they will lose their civil rights. (You know as well as ALL OF US that when Romney gets into the WH, Civil Rights will NOT CHANGE....
Can you answer 'Where are the 'Shovel Ready Jobs?' Now Mind you, the Chair Person of the presidents JOB COUNCIL is Jeffery Immelt who is also the CEO of GE.. Now GE has CUT 10's of thousands of jobs in the USA and has Created over 30,000 jobs in China. He also said that he is about to invest 2 BILLION Dollars into new plants in China... He is the Chair Person who is to advise your president how to cut the unemployment in THIS COUNTYRY not China... And How comne I have NEVER herad a Lib scream that he is 'Out-Sourcing' jobs???
I couyld go on, but you are to Star Struck to even notice... I just hope when the big dog comes growling at your door you are ready for him.
Nothing like a little reverse discrimination and vote pandering...
I can't believe these people are allowed to post this crap here. They are out and out racists. Shouldn't they be banned?! For life?
Hell, Obama started it. He is the one who just issued a totally racist executive order. Aim your wrath at him. Are there not White kids also having problems in schools? To ignore them and pass something just for Blacks is amoral and totally racists.
Pat Boston MA: I've been educated to defend their right to speak, despite the vitriol they spew. sigh*
Pat/Dee,
I don't post here often. I'm glad you call out some of these racist posts. However, my heart sinks because you don't realize some of your own posts have been racist.
No such thing as reverse discrimination? A white person cannot be discriminated against? Really?
Blacks were here 250 years before the Mayflower? Before even Columbus wash here?
You do make some valid points, but they are lost in the racism. Just like those good points your adversaries here make... that you overlook because of their racism.
Take a look at Zimbabwe. That's Half&Half's society model for the USA and Greece is the economic model.
I lived through the 70's "you have to hire x% blacks". What a disaster!
President Obama is trying to help as many Americans as he can. All colors. All religions.
That's what the President of the United States is supposed to do.
You people make me sick.
Pat you must be a lefty professor....go back to your classroom & fill your students heads with some more mush....
dixie girl, don't tell me what I must be. You don't know what you're talking about.
Hey Pat - read the article again and tell me how this executive order helps poor White kids who are not doing well in school!
Feb. 9 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama is freeing 10 states from requirements of the No Child Left Behind law as they pursue alternate means of judging student progress.
The states obtaining a waiver from the law, pushed by former President George W. Bush, a Republican, are Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, Oklahoma, and Tennessee.
“We can combine greater freedom with greater accountability,” Obama said at the White House before an audience of state education officials, teachers, civil rights and business leaders. “Each of these states has set higher benchmarks for student achievement.”
Almost half of U.S. public schools are labeled failing under the federal No Child Left Behind law. The administration has cited the failure rate as a reason to offer states and local school authorities more flexibility.
The education law was due for an overhaul more than five years ago. The administration gave Congress a “blueprint for reform” in March 2010.
Congress hasn’t acted.
Pat:
You should have told them that you people are the ones always harping on how poorly black kids do in schools. Now someone takes the initiative to do some thing about this and you criticize that. Yes, it is a fact. Most of you such people do not have a problem with the President's policies; you have a problem with his skin color. Believe me, you are in the minority and the majority of Americans will return this president to the White House to complete his important work. We, the majority (99%) want every single American to prosper, not just the wealthy and the greedy. If there is a class war going on, the wealthy/greedy have the bazookas and the rest of us have the sling shots. But rest assured that we will prevail, because our slings are people powered. Bank on it!!
He's trying to help as many as possible, all races, all colors... by helping one race... one color? Really?
I can't believe you would post that on an article about an executive order that racially discriminates.
Pat from Boston: We know you love the President; I respect him as well...the office he holds. I do not support everything the person I vote for does. I voted for President Bush and there were many things he did I did not agree with. The difference between people like you and the rest of the country is: we have our own minds and do not just goin along w/everything this President does. Obama is one of the worst Presidents of all time. He has lied to this country and is responsible for over 3yrs of an economic disaster; you can no longer blame Bush...This move is nothing more than trying to sure-up black votes that he is losing. If he cared soooo much about education do it for all; there are poor white folks too!
I most certainly can blame Bush. His Administration was a nightmare.
And I can blame the GOP in Congress who don't want to do a damn thing for the economy. They said as much.
And I can blame Romney, who wants to continue Bush's policies.
You mean just like Obama continued Bush's policies? Don't you like that?
Pat Boston MA:
How can you blame Romney? The last I checked, he was not the preseident...
Talk about 'Canned' Remarks... There ya go folks.
The black guy is a racist.
Where's my entitlement? Oh I forgot, I'm white, I don't get one.
Vote for the white guy....
After 3.5 years of Obama catering to the 1%ers, he finally wakes up and realizes that the African Americans are worse off under his economy policies than under Bush's economic policies.
Is he trying to buy votes with money he doesn't have, or did someone give him a wake up call, but then again, someone might have just bought him an alarm clock that doesn't work right because he certainly overslept on this issue.
OK, let's get something straight - not being racist, but telling it the way it is. Obama got elected because he is black - period. He has never worked a day in his life to earn what he has - he was given it through government funded projects - paid for by the American tax payor. He was raised on entitlements...again because he is black. He is trying to buy the black vote...again by giving away entitlements funded on the backs of those that get up everyday and go to work instead of standing in line for government freebies because they think they are "owed". Many, many black people voted for the king merely because he is black - so much for open mindedness and the "most qualified" man or woman being voted for. I am white, and I have no problem with a black president, as long as he/she has proven themselves, has an accomplished track record of profitability and is qualified for the office - just like a white person should be. Uhmmm...I wonder which one that would be...
What really concerns me is that king obama has ruined the chances for another black president to be elected for years to come.
Steve, President Obama did not get elected because he is black. Get that straight. He was elected because he was the better candidate of all those in the field.
Period.
Yeah Steve. It wasn't just because he was Black. He also had a funny name. Don't forget that important credential. He certainly had no other credential to show he was qualified for this office and the past 3 1/2 years prove me right on this one.
Oh, I see, people voting for Obama is all about skin color. Therefore, logically, if Romney wins, it will only be because he's white, isn't that correct? It therefore follows that anyone who is elected to higher office is done so solely because of their ethnicity or skin color, right? What an idiotic response. If Romney wins, then I'll be the first poster here saying "he's a white person, what did you expect?" (sarcasm intended)
thinkingman,
Let's be honest for a moment. A large portion of the US wanted to see us have the first black President... finally. That's just the way it was. The man has zero qualifications for President. He had a lot of promises that he wasn't able to deliver. He didn't deliver on those promises, but that is Bush's fault.
Pat by your comments you are the racist. Other do not agree with you so you call them racist? Obama and people like you are the problem. You want every working person to pay more so the blacks can set live at the tax payers expense while now getting preference education? You would be screaming if a white president made an executive order to help poor white people get an education. Be honest.
We need to rid the white house of Obama, he is the most racist president our country has ever had. Just be honest with yourself about his words and actions. You would not tolerate the same words and deeds from a white president.
Lastly Pat i cannot believe you have not been banned from the site but yeah I remember now what site this is.
rickster, can't you read?
Look at the comments in this place. You have no problem at all with what they're writing?
What is wrong with you?
You have no problem with diverting educational opportunities away from the most deserving students to students simply based on their skin color?
What is wrong with you?
pjam, there are no most deserving students here in America. Or at least there shouldn't be. Every child is a deserving student in my eyes.
Proud2BaVet
Pat Boston MA.
"there are no most deserving students here in America. Or at least there shouldn't be. Every child is a deserving student in my eyes."
Then why is it called a program for African-Americans?
Rickster:
You are wrong!! If we could find a white president with the same words and deeds we would most certainly support him. So, speak for yourself and let others speak for themselves, and stop pretending you know everyone well enough to know what they think!!! You one of those star gazers????
And if you do, I'll see that the taxpayers money continues to be funneled to your community.
Just what we like to see, a President for all Americans, but especially for black Americans.
Even more especially for Mexicans leeching off of Americans.
where was the poor white kid scholarship when i was in college....wait you just had to work for what you got....no free rides, etc. I think the african american culture needs to drop the african......2. look at the destruction of their families 3. and make a plan to change the family situation. NO matter how much $$$ obama throws at the problem it won't change bad family traditions in those families white or black who don't encourage their kids to work hard and earn it.
smitty, and you know all this how?
Pat, I agree completely with Smitty. As a teacher, I see first-hand how splintered families impact poverty stricken children. Parents are their children's first teachers, and the lessons learned in the home can impact students for the rest of their lives.
huskerfan, I wonder what the kids learned who grew up in families that weren't splintered or poverty stricken. I wonder what they learned. The ones who grew up in good families with two parents.
People like GW Bush & Cheney & Rumsfeld & Greenspan and Norquist and all those Wall Streeters. What about the bankers and real estate agents who had a helluva party exploited us all.
The Churches who raped boys. Penn State. What about the politicians, the wealthy politicians btw, who think it's their business what a woman does with her body. The politicians who have a right to decide if gay marriage is legal or not?
People like Romney, who couldn't tell the truth if his life depended on it.
keep drinking that koolaid pat
Watch out folks, I thinks Pat's meds aree wearing off.
What utter BS, just Obama trying to buy votes before election. He has proven in term that he can't do anything except drive up the debt so lets kick him off before he does it some more.
Racial preferences and giveaways to special interest groups at taxpayer expense - plain & simple. "Divider", not "Uniter"…The President's true beliefs and inclinations are being revealed right before our eyes, and it isn't pretty - what a disappointment.
The real "man" and media concocted "myth" are not meshing with reality. It’s a simple proposition folks; Do you want to put up with this nonsense for 4 more months, or 4 more years?
Obama didn't condemn himself in this story for the jobs that aren't, but he does in this speech of why the economy isn't growing.
The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can't pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies.
And the cost of our debt is one of the fastest growing expenses in the Federal budget. This rising debt is a hidden domestic enemy, robbing our cities and States of critical investments in infrastructure like bridges, ports, and levees; robbing our families and our children of critical investments in education and health care reform; robbing our seniors of the retirement and health security they have counted on.
Every dollar we pay in interest is a dollar that is not going to investment in America's priorities. Instead, interest payments are a significant tax on all Americans–a debt tax that Washington doesn't want to talk about. If Washington were serious about honest tax relief in this country, we would see an effort to reduce our national debt by returning to responsible fiscal policies.
Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that "the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.
I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America's debt limit.
Sen. Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., (Senate – March 16, 2006)
Here's a site you all might find interesting as it full of information that should interest because it's related to the above Obama speech.
usdebtclock.org.
That was 6+ years ago..You need to get a life and realize that when he got into office, he was confronted with THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT scenario thanks to George and DIck...
Sometimes you think one way and then you learn things are much worse than you were lead to believe...
The "end of the world as we know it" is a dream of Obama's that he is vigorously pursuing. Smarten up and wake up. Your ignorance is appalling.
“so every child has greater access to a complete and competitive education from the time they’re born to the time, all through the time they get a career” the president said to cheers.
Not every child, just african americans
Look at your quote, it begins with "so every child." I don't see anything in your quote that says just African American. Do You????
The executive order says that Charles. Read the article?
I have been reading all you above me and, by gum, I am impressed! So many different points of view and so very well expressed.
My daughter, a school ma'arm, has let me write with her nic because I am 82 years old and cannot figure out this ticky tacky troublesome stuff to get here, but she set me up to do it so here goes.
OK, I have an 8th grade education. Go figure. My daughter, "HeartsQuest," really followed her heart and became a school teacher and because I pushed her to get a college education that i didn't have, she is letting me give you my opinion.
You concentrate on parents and how they bring their kids up regardless of skin color and you are right to a big degree, but I was HeartQuest's single parent (her daddy divorced us when she was about three years old) and I really do understand that cuz being a single parent was hard work, but frankly, I think something else is more important.
My daughter has been good to me and she did go to college and became a school teacher and I will tell you right now you folks and that mr. barack Obama, that the teachers are the most important influence on youngsters growing up.
Now Mr BO wants to give money to black folks to improve their education. Really? And so there will be separate classes that put all the black kids in one room? Is he out of his cotton pickin' mind?
Discrimination? In Spades!!!!!
Those kids need interaction with all the other skin tones that is in the American world today. Kids teach each other!!!! Doesn't he know that?? Attitudes! Self-confidence. Discovering their own unique gifts. Yes... my daughter taught me that... that us folks will never be like anyone else and will never learn something the way someone else does.
I am sick and tired of that silly word "race." I sit on the computer here (lol i learned how to read your stuff and answer you....) and an easy search told me there is no such thing as "race" anymore. All of us, every ding bot one of us, is mixed ancestry, including mr. BO whose mum was pure white. I think the word describing that is that he is a mulatto. That is respectable; truth usually is if said right. No point in lyin'.
Of course parents are important. But teachers are too. In fact they probly spend more hours per day with their students than mom or dad does with them on average.
So if mr. BO wants to spend money... let him set up money for teacher training and stop this silliness for what he calls "black." Few folks in this country are born- again "black" so he is discriminatory from the git go.
Why didnt he call himself "white"????? He is 50% white after all.
Why didn't he just add 250 points to every blacks ACT and SAT scores. It would have been cheaper and just as politically correct. He underminds families to give more power to the state. He continuely Flip Flops, (excuse me, "Evolves") and each time for the worse.
This is just further proof that Odumbo is a racist, always was, always will be. Nothing new here. If you pass legislation favoring one race over another - that is where racism begins and ends. He has divided America more then any other president before him just so he could get into office, and this is why he will be ousted out of office come Nov. Go Romney ! ! ! !
