The women noticed this and complained about it well before the Obama campaign pushed the fact. This has been to same exact process for Hispanics, blacks, gays, Muslims, and the "leaching poor". The "figment of Obama's rhetoric" only seems to pop up after specific targeted actions or speeches coming from Republicans. Maybe the GOP would be well served to tone it down a little and maybe try to understand other's concerns and positions.

As with all polls, the raw data is less important than the trends. A two point swing, although within the margin of error, may indicate a slight Obama trend.

As far as negativity is concerned, my response is "duh"!

A negative ad either is believed, which triggers negative feelings for the target candidate, or is not believed, which triggers negative feelings about the author. With negative ads coming from both camps for a change, the over all negativity would be predictable.

The GOP and Romney have been nothing but negative from the beginning. Obama has only recently employed the tact. So it's also not surprising to see a slight tick in Obama's direction.

Geri, not sure what you mean by Obama being against the elderly with the healthcare plan. Any cuts to Medicare were to Medicare advantage, Obama fixed the doughnut hole, and there weren't any changes to Medicare.

As for promises, all politicians make many promises they don't keep. The idea is to see if the trends on issues are going your way. For example, keeping from losing 750,000 jobs a month to some gain in employment is the right trend even though everyone would like it to be better (that may be impossible for Romney too even though he's promised to make employment "shoot up like a rocket").

If you look at the poll you will see 35% of those polled consider themselves Democrat. While only 23% consider themselves Republican. The actual split is near even. I bet if you over polled Republican the numbers would be completely differnt.

Although I think Mr. Obama is an epic failure as president I do think he is running about the smartest campaign he can. His best hope, since he can do little to tout his own accomplishments, is to paint Mr. Romney as an unacceptable alternative. If Obama can do this then those undecideds might not break, like they normally do, against the incumbent.

So I get the Obama campaign strategy. It's very simple and direct. I'm still unsure about Romney's. Maybe he's waiting until Obama's attacks have numbed everyone as much as they will be before he tells his own personal story. Not the story about Bain, though I think that is pretty good stuff too. But his own personal life is one of service without a demand for recognition. Helping victims of fires, or a partner's lost daughter, or giving millions to charity--all of these will play well to moderates. If my guess is right then Romney will continue this rope-a-dope with Obama until after the convention, and then his supporters will come out with his personal story.

With those more likely to vote supporting Romney more than Obama, and with undecideds traditionally breaking 80-20 against the incumbent, this could easily be Mr. Obama's one and only term. And so long as the fight for electoral college votes continues to be conducted in states Obama won more than McCain won, then Obama will remain more defensive. Close races in those states might even bring in more Republicans to Congress. Romney wins in those states will definately bring in more Republicans.

If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets.
That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending.
After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets.

If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself.
In a nutshell, Obama is a LIAR!!!
HE IS saying "I inherited a deficit that I voted for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January 20th".

The PRIMARY GOP agenda is to either keep or lower the tax rate for the rich. This is their "bread and butter" agenda. With the rates so low, especially capital gains, they can cheaply take more and more money out of businesses and out of our economy and steer them to their off-shore tax havens. If the tax rates were higher or if capital gains were taxed at "normal" rates, they would, instead, be incented to reinvest in business and keep the money in play for a cheaper future tax year.

It's just tax incentives 101. You have to be careful that the narrative actually follows the action. Low personal tax rates at the top end KILLS business investment and JOBS... not the other way around like they would have you believe.

We need to wake up to this one. It drives higher unemployment, higher debt, unbalanced federal budgets, lower GDP, lower investment, and greater gaps between the middle class and the top tear. It drives pretty much everything the GOP does... in other words... this is kinda an important issue!

I'd love to see that viable third party candidate. Out sourcing is a result of many things, one being greed but it's probably a small part of the problem. Consumer are demanding cheaper products. Clothing might be better made in the USA but those products overseas are so inexpensive that they are hard to pass up. I other words, why buy one outfit when you can have three. If you've ever bought an electronic device, like a computer or a smart phone, you're part of the outsourcing problem. If you've shopped at Walmart, you're part of the outsourcing problem.

You can protest all you want about fair wages for US workers but it's pretty hard to stay competitive when a foreign country ships a similar item into the USA at a fraction of the cost. How does the USA company stay competitive when labor is the number one cost in operating a company?

If you want outsourcing to stop, start buying products MADE IN THE USA. If you still go out and buy the cheap Chinese or Mexican crap, then shut up because you're part of the outsourcing problem.

Hate to tell you gusto, GWB inherited a recession from Clinton. The dot-com bubble had burst in 2000, and the economy was sinking even before the shock of 9/11, the corporate scandals (ie Enron) and Sarbanes-Oxley. There was negative GDP growth in Clinton's last year.

That $5.6 trillion surplus never existed. It was a projection by the CBO in January 2001 to cover the next decade. The projection assumed that the 1990s economic growth (mostly due to the creation of the internet & Y2K) and the stock-market bubble (which had already peaked) would continue forever and generate record-high tax revenues. It assumed no recessions, no terrorist attacks, no wars, no natural disasters, and that all discretionary spending would fall to 1930s levels.

This CBO projection is vertually the same today. The 14 Trillion deficit is based on a projection that assumes our conditions will remain the same, high unemployments, thus less revenue coming into the treasury.

Under Bush, as the tax cuts of 2001 showed small growth, but as the cuts we have today that are set to expire, became law in late May 2003, the recovery began. Growth averaged 4% over the next three years, the jobless rate fell from 6.3% in June 2003 to 4.4% in October 2006, and real wages began to grow despite rising food and energy prices. The 2003 tax cut was the high point of Bush economic policy.

But what didn't happen is Congress didn't cut spending, they increased their spending and Bush didn't veto bills because congress attached this spending to moneys needed for our troops to fight the war. Also the Federal Reserves should not have lowered interest rates.

And then....we have those homebuyers who put nothing down for a loan, to the Bush administration that bragged about record home ownership, to the Dems who promoted and protected Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the two companies helped the mania by using a taxpayer subsidy to attract trillions of dollars of foreign capital into U.S. housing. No one; the citizen, the congress & the White House wanted the party to end, though sooner or later it had to and here we are still debating who's fault it was, when in reality it was EVERYONE's fault all due to greed.

Nothing can take away the fact that Clinton presided over an extraordinarily long economic expansion. But unlike this president, Clinton worked very well with the Republican Congress and together the three branches helped grow our economy. Unfortunately today you don't have such a leader in the White House. As long as you don't have a strong leader regardless of the party, you will have a poor economy.

the housing buble that collapsed in 2006-7 was a result of both parties wish to open housing for all americans. This sounds good in theroy, but in reality homes were sold that the people could not afford. This was done by banks at the request of the govenment.

As you stated, the dot-com bubble burst happend in Clintons lame duck era. Many people wrongly remember GWB, but look it up.

In my opinion, Clinton handed GWB a failing economy and GWB did the best he could with what he had. He (and congress) built the economy back up from a terrible fall. He also was not even a year in office when 9/11 happened. That being said I do not agree with many things that he did (wars, stimulas, etc). but I firmly believe that he had the best outcome in mind for his actions.

When Obama got in office all he wanted was healthcare. He got it passed to the detriment of the economy (he ignored the problem for the first two years even though he walked into a failing system). Since that time he has given lip service to the issues, but never really come up with a plan. Congress is gridlocked (which is probably a good thing), and they can not even agree on a budget. THis is congress's primary job.

Bottom line, there is plenty of blame to go around, but as long as the electorate is divided all these people making poor descisions will keep their jobs. It is up to all of us to kick them all out and start with new blood.

NBC is emphasizing Obama's 6% lead in this poll of registered voters. What they (naturally) fail to mention is that they polled 12% MORE DEMOCRATS than Republicans.

It's very easy to skew a poll by using 'push-polling' (which they did) and by selecting an area that is predominantly inhabited by their favored political party in which to carry out their "random" polling.

Another point they neglect to mention is that, so far, Obama has dominated the airwaves with his ads. He has been spending more than TWICE as much as Romney. He has actually been spending MORE money than he's been taking in.

As the incumbent, Obama already has acess to the funds raised by the Democratic National Committee. As yet, Romney can't tap the much larger funds accumulated by the Republican National Committee.

During the debates Romney will be pressured to explain his refusal to release his returns. If Romney released his returns and nothing worse than the low rate of 14.5% and having offshore accounts turned up he'd have a good chance of winning. If he continues to refuse clearly he has other things he's hiding and I believe he'd have little chance of winning.

Same here, as a Centrist though. I gave serious thought to voting for McCain until he picked that harpy as his VP. McCain threw away his chances by picking Palin and gave rise to the destruction of the moderate GOP by giving her power she did not have before she got picked.

I so agree. There is a lot to be said for those who look at life through a "conservative" lens, versus a "liberal" lens. I suppose I wear the "liberal" label, but the older I get, the more I see that how some of the ideas that the "liberal" party uses to attract adherents could maybe use a little dose of conservative common sense.

And while I do get that the economy hasn't improved as much as we'd like, all the economists say it won't for awhile. As long as the housing situation continues to drag our economy down it won't improve.

So here's my story. Under Clinton, my salary was in the $120k range, my home had increased in value, real value, by about $70k. Even before the time King George II's rule had finally come to an end, I had lost all the equity in my home and then some, had to sell it for a huge loss, and my salary had dropped to the $85k range. After 3 years of President Obama's administration, my salary is back to the $120's and I have a great job with lots of stability and potential.

I know the repub's love their Regan, but I just don't see where much has 'trickled down' and for all the hand-wringing and blather that tax increases will stifle job creation, I ask, where the heck are the jobs you're supposed to be creating? You kept your tax breaks but haven't done much to improve the job situation.

Most of the government aid have been available to and used by all Previous Olympic Games held in the US. They guy Romney took over for, had no idea what he was doing and had not applied for these.

Most Engineers I know are quite adept at understanding government regulations and opportunities for government aid. If they weren't they would not get hired again.

I can throw around stats too. The unemployment rate for the last 3 month's of Bush's term was 6.5% (Oct 2008) 6.8% and 7.3%. The ENTIRE time Obama has been president the rate has been no less than 7.8% (and that was in January of 2009 when Bush left the Oval Office. So it's taken Obama 3.5 years and he still hasn't fixed anything. The rate now is still higher than it was when Bush was in Office. Here is my source:

He's done nothing to spend money. He calls that a stimulus. He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills,
and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete 2009.

If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets.
That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending.
After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets.

If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself.

This isn't illegal. Anyone one of us could do the same thing to minimize what we have to pay in taxes. And when our taxes continue going up in order to pay for the lower class's alcohol and cigarettes while they buy milk and bread on foodstamps, why shouldn't we all try taking advantage of trying to pay less money in taxes? As long as Obama is around he'll try taxing us as much as he can so the only people who can help minimize our tax burden at that point is ourselves.

Well it cost 25% to bring your investments back into this country. Who would be stupid enough to give the Gov 25% if it was legal to not do so. What we need to do is outsource our Government to a phone service in India.

There is nothing fair and balanced about the Obama Plan.

Yes, he offers tax cuts, but they are one time benefits that are so specific and with requirements that eliminate most from benefiting from them. Some really amount to giveaways to people who were going to do hire or expand anyway weather the tax cut was there or not.

Yes, he offers low interest business loans, but banks aren't loaning because Federal regulations increased income requirements, credit requirements, and higher downpayments for applicants. Loans are a last resort anyhow, and only used for extreme expansions.

Meanwhile, many businesses have been required additional regulations that cost money. Some is related to the ACA, some is the IRS trying to catch people cheating, some is new professional requirments requiring new registrations and fees to various government agencies.

Then Businesses are trying to figure out how to handle the ACA plan which taxes them for some plans, can throw a tax penalty if they don't conform, and based on estimates of what the additional government mandates mean in 2014 they are bracing for an estimated boost of 30 - 50% increase in premiums.

Then Obama is running around calling people earning $250,000 and not wanting the Bush Tax cuts to continue for them. For them that is an additional increase in costs. $250,000 is small businesses, not big business.

You could add all this up and figure out that Obama is not a friend, but an obstacle for Business. But you, like many others like to believe some pretty warped partisans.
