Portman keeps up attack role

MINSTER, Ohio -- As President Barack Obama and chief rival Mitt Romney pumped the breaks on partisan politics today, a frontrunner believed to be on the shortlist to become the next Republican vice presidential nominee showed no signs of toning down his rhetorical attacks.

Rob Portman, widely acknowledged to be a top contender to become Romney's VP pick, critiqued the president for recently saying, "If you've got a business, you didn't build that" and accused the Obama campaign of running misleading ads. Though the Ohio senator released a written statement earlier in the day regarding the massacre in Aurora, Colo., he did not address the shooting until he received a question during a media availability Friday afternoon.

When asked if the recent violence at all sheds light on the pettiness that has recently defined the presidential race, Portman said, "It certainly shows what's really important which is our families." But he added that he was "concerned about the tenor of the Obama attacks" and that misleading ads have shown that the Obama campaign "is not worthy of the incredible problems we face as a country."

During brief remarks in Florida earlier in the day, Obama offered condolences to the families of the victims and told the crowd, "There are going to be other days for politics."

Similarly, a campaign event Romney had scheduled in New Hampshire turned into a brief statement from the presumptive Republican nominee. "Ann [Romney] and I join the president and first lady -- and all Americans -- in offering our deepest condolences to those whose lives were shattered in a few moments of evil in Colorado," he said.

The president, Vice President Joe Biden, First Lady Michele Obama and Ann Romney all canceled events on Friday. The Romney campaign also canceled planned radio interviews.

“Jane [Portman] and I join all Americans in expressing our condolences to the families and friends of those whose lives were cut short by the senseless act of violence in Colorado last night. They are in our prayers this morning, as are those victims who were injured and a community now in grief," read the statement released from Portman's office.

Portman also expressed caution about any impact the shooting at a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" should have on gun control laws. "Let's see what the situation was. I don't know what the details are. I don't think we should make it a political discussion at this point," he said.

The Buckeye State senator is spending Friday in the western part of his home state, spending time with local business leaders.

He'll attend a fundraiser for Mitt Romney in Lima, Ohio, tonight.

Oh Great, Romeny sent one of his minions out to bash our President.

Rob Portman issued a written statement. Since Romney is not the President why didn't he issue a written statement? Every channel I turned to seemed to have Romeny's mug on more than our President.

I do applaud Romeny's sentiments but I doubt very seriously if his statement is as heartfelt as our President's. Romney is a hypocritical copycat. We'll see how sincere R-money is when the NRA weighs in. Romney gets donations from the powerful NRA.

Romney echoed the same words of President about hugging our loved ones. Does Romney ever have an original thought of his own; apart from bashing our President?

Our President is the Comforter-in-Chief!!! He stroke the right balance when he asked us to come together as one American Family.

I love how they spin it...Sike...They are disgusting(The GOP)....Obama's team are being dishonest and misleading they say ? They are directly leading us to the truth and I say leading because only Mittens can tell us the real truth about Bane(I am going with Limpballs spelling) Either he was CEO until 1999 or he lied on SEC paperwork or he was CEO until 2002 and he is lying to the American public now....Both cannot be true, and if Obama is being misleading then Mittens needs to come clean and lead us to the truth...Maybe he has multiple personalities and he doesn't honestly know about the MIttens who signed Mass healthcare legislation and was okay with Roe v Wade and all of the other Mitt Vs. Mitt contradictions but if that is the case he needs professional help not the codes for our nuclear weapons....

Romney agreed with President Obama that successful businesses are dependent upon the civic-governmental structure:

1. Fire protection

2. Police protection

3. Roads

4. Public-school-educated workers

5. Tax reductions for businesses

6. A military to protect national interests

7. Subsidized healthcare (e.g. Medicare) for a healthy workforce

8. Etc., etc., .....

Portman is ...snore... er what?

So how many years of tax returns did Romney ask YOU for Portman? Hypocrisy only starts there.

Romney has broken all records -- not just in refusing to release tax returns -- but also for airing ads filled with blatant lies. Including the one mentioned above in which the president referred to the roads and bridges business did not build. Please, explain how the concept of "paying it forward" is so evil?

Did folks see the Neil Covuto on Fox interview the business owner in Romney's ad, Jack Gilchrist?

When campaigns are based on lies and misinformation one never knows when truth will raise its angelic head. Mitt Romney ... reconfigured President Obama’s excellent speech about the government and others being instrumental in any entrepreneur’s success. After-all, it is government , we the people, that built the roads, airports, water plants, Internet, and other infrastructure businesses are dependent on. Taxpayers, we the people via teachers and other professions provided the knowledge that allowed the entrepreneur to innovate.

What is most interesting is that the business man in the commercial, Jack Gilchrist ultimately agreed with the President. Neil Cavuto interviewed Jack Gilchrist on Fox. Jack agreed that his teacher was instrumental in his life. He agreed that government building of interstate highway and Internet was instrumental as well.

Jack's business is a bus and truck business, so you can take it from him that roads are important.

Mittens attack ads have been full of lies from the start. The strategy is lie, deny, and keep it up because if you can keep the lie alive until after the election, that's all that matters.

All campaigns have some exaggerations and blended truths in them but Mittens campaign has set a new (LOW) standard.

You don't call a emergency room physician who resusitates a dying patient a failure; President Obama resusitated a dying capitalist system and now the patient is in recovery. A lot different than the conservatives who would have pulled the plug and waited to see if the dying patient would recover on his own.

President Obama has turned around the economy - consider the free-fall into depression that was occurring when he took office. Yes we are much better off than we were 4 years ago.

While the recovery is slow and likely to be affected by the European recession caused by austerity; the financial market is doing fine, and Mitt Romney and his 1% privileged class should thank President Obama for restoring their wealth, and those with 401Ks for restoring their retirement funds.

This election is a choice between two visions for the future of America: One vision is for continuation of the progressive vision of a balance between equality and freedom as the moral foundation of justice, and a more recent conservative vision of an entitlement due the wealthy and the equivalence of corporations to the rights and protections of natural persons under the Constitution.

A progressive future is one in which government is a custodian of the public trust and advocates for justice; where justice is a balance between equality and freedom. Government as a custodian of the public trust means that everyone plays by the same rules and that everyone is equal before the law. Public trust means the rights of the people to preserve and protect the common property of the United States is not severable to the interests of privatization. Public trust means that a corporation has no rights except those given to it by law and does not have equal standing with a natural born person under the Constitution.

The conservative future is one of a hostile corporate takeover with privatization of government functions. The corporate takeover means that having wealth is an effective barrier to others participating in the process of government. It means that government would no longer serve the interests of the community but collaborate with the wealthy corporate owners to establish a separate set of laws that entitle them to preferential treatment while creating barriers to competition by eliminating opportunities for others.

The free market is a myth: if it isn't regulated by government to prevent fraud, it is regulated by the corporate oligarchy to prevent competition. Free means not having to go to jail for fraud and theft.

Freedom of speech for corporations is a political myth: the right to free speech is a right of the natural born person, not an artifact of legal convention.

The conservative options for health care are no birth control, no abortion and no health insurance unapproved by a corporate CEO. The progressive option is universal health care and the right of women to make their own health decisions.

This election is about who gets to rewrite the tax laws: a privileged elite who personally benefits from tax entitlements to the wealthy, or one who advocates for tax fairness.

This election is about who gets to nominate justices to the Supreme Court: pack a court with conservative judicial activists who want to roll back human rights, or one who advocates for judicial competence.

This election is a moral choice between affiliation or aggression, empathy or egotism, service or selfishness, cooperation or competitiveness.

The tale of two visions is the difference between a government of the people, by the people and for the people, and a government run by a plutocracy of corporate power.

dls - at least you got one thing right, this election is about two visions. One upon which this country was built and and another which will surely destroy it. One choice is Romney's vision where creative and industrious individuals like Henry Ford and Steve Jobs have the opportunity to create products, businesses and JOBS that provide us the means to support our families and fulfill the obligations of our country. The other is Obamas vision where those who create our country's wealth are labeled villains, where government determines who is worthy to achieve and keep the fruits of their labor. It is a vision of Apple vs Solyndra, of Steve Jobs vs Tony Rezko, of a man who seeks to DIVIDE and ultimately ENSLAVE us vs a man who has experienced the American dream and wants to provide that OPPORTUNITY and the necessary FREEDOM to us, to our children, to our children's children...

How many dollars does Obama have in Swiss accounts ? Is Obama a member of a cult(Mormonism) ? A cult that he swears allegiance to above all else....Oh except his oath to Northquist...I am so glad we out number you Fox News Cult members...If we could just get rid of that silly outdated part of the constitution that gives the same representation in the senate to Wyoming as California then we could finally do the right things like ending our occupation of so many foreign countries, and ending our war on drugs, and raise taxes on the billionaires until we get out of debt....Oh and make healthcare a business that only makes a profit for the doctors, nurses and other caregivers not insurance executives and shareholders who don't do a damn thing except kill people(Yes they are the true death panels there goes another one of the classic GOP projections of saying the left is trying to do what the right is doing) Their solution to the healthcare fiasco is tort reform so you can't pursue a civil suit against an insurance company for denying care and killing you(Watch or read John Grisham's Rainmaker)....Till then(you waking up from the matrix) we will continue to try to educate you about what these corporate oligarchs are doing to this country( We succeeded in the past , the last time they drove us in a ditch in the depression)

From today's MSNBC article Obama campaign raises $46M in June; Romney takes in $33M:

"The Obama team spent over $58 million in June, though, with one of the largest expenses being television ads bolstering the president and criticizing Romney over his private sector career and scant release of tax records.

Likewise, the largest single expense for the Romney campaign was its advertising efforts. The campaign disclosed having spent $10.4 million dollars on so-called "placed media," FEC-speak for television and radio ad buys."

      And from CBS/NY Times today:

Romney and Obama in Statistical Tie in NY Times/CBS Poll

By Don Frederick on July 19, 2012

Voter disapproval of President Barack Obama's handling of the economy is hurting his re-election prospects and improving the outlook for Republican challenger Mitt Romney, a New York Times/CBS News national poll shows.

Romney is backed by 47 percent and Obama by 46 percent in the survey, released yesterday. The numbers include voters who said they leaned toward one of the candidates. Excluding those voters, Romney led Obama, 45 percent to 43 percent.

The results, while within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points, represents the first time Romney has had an edge in the Times/CBS survey since he emerged as the presumptive Republican nominee in early April.

To me, this is great news! Obama's campaign is bleeding money and he can't keep up with Romney!!

President Romney 2012! Lean into it!!!

So A$$ wipe just One Question and we really want you to get this right------> because we all know you are a 4ward type of guy.

regale us on the Fact of WHY just WHY is your erudite deity god-man is Not mentioning or running his campaign on twenty points of light described in your paste-ie little attempt to lend some credibility to Bho the destroyer a over blown comm. organ. who's Hope & Change

This is the record of an administration deserving another four years.I have to laugh at you poor liberal "sycoo-phants" I have to laugh at you progie donkey asses & fiends; Your erudite deity god-man Barak insane Obama with the help of David Axelrod is/are imploding his own campaign. His landslide loss to, not soon enough President Romney moment is scheduled for November 6th 2012. Sorry if the liberal loss of the house in 2010 and the up and coming loss of the Senate majority & the change in the Executive dept. in January causes you any mental distress or anguish. However our country Can not and will not allow this Falsehood & Destruction of the Great American Dream to continue. Not to worry though there will be programs in place to help you mitigate the feeling of betrayal that you will inevitably experience from the realization of how you have allowed yourself to be deceived.

.Obama has not put in place any policy that would help decrease unemployment %age rates even to the worst of Bush years. After Obama promised to keep unemployment below 8 percent, it never fell below 8 percent. In fact, unemployment rose from 7.7 percent to a high of almost 10 percent under President Obama. Recent unemployment figures are still over 8 percent and do not reflect the hundreds of thousands who are out of work and have given up trying to find work. What a sorry record when you view the facts.

But, of course,,,, it is not his fault, Rt--------.2> I mean he is a 4ward type of guy!

Where are those people that fell off the unemployment Cliff?

POTUS #44 Is like a plastic grocery bag caught by one of the handles on a barbed wire fence.

Twisting, turning, flailing about in the wind every now and then catching the air and inflating. Soon the handle will break and he'll be blown back to the windy city.

Maybe one of his buddies in Hollywood will help him out with a TV reality show, they can name it One & Done in Chicago. lol

And good ole mother Harpo will be there to lick his scrotum in consolation, even though she was disrespected so vehemently after helping him get elected.

Obama is so incredibly clueless/ reckless------>

With the lives of 330+ million in this country alone.

This short Thesis is for General consumption...

Topic: Subversion of the will of the People

He/ President Barack Hussein Obama is the Great White/African November 2008 Calamitous disaster. disclaimer (not a racially intended statement)just stating a fact***^*** so before you get on it ---> get off it.

The constant subversion of The Will of the People Has caused nearly UN-repairable damage to our way of life, our economic system the gdp as a whole, created millions of super dependent enslaved people throughout America raised the national debt more than 42 Presidents combined in a merely 3.6year period forcing us to borrow .40+ cents of every dollar Spent by Government (utterly ridiculous do you agree?) what will our children say about that fact they will read in American history class years from now? "pls give me a answer for that"

The Affordable Care Act, alone "the greatest single subversion of the will of the people"has crippled & paralyzed the entrepreneurial spirit of our nation and all but completely stifled free market business people, no wonder they hold off on expansion when they are unsure of whether or not capital investment will pay off.

Nancy Pelosi said "We have to pass it so we will know whats in it"

Apparently since the ACA is over 2700 pages of extreme reading material an takes a Legal professional to interpret much of it into layman's terms perhaps the private sector of Americans are still having it translated so they can adapt to the compliance aspect of regulatory control it places upon their businesses and lively-hood. Small & medium business people many of which do not have the resources available to even have this ACA monstrosity interpreted have no choice, but to bide their time in hopes that it will be struck down or repealed. Then they will resume with pursuing their goals pertaining to expansion and growth of their businesses. not to mention the tax consequences contained within the ACA. This being the first point.

          Secondly;

Furthermore, other burdensome regulations imposed mostly against private sector business growth has people befuddled as well just one more factor thwarting the efforts of American Entrepreneurial Innovation.

The Greatness of the American concept for advancing exceptional ism has led this country from the first step on Plymouth Rock. To veer away from this tenet is foolhardy at best, suicidal is a better analogy.

Where do we go from here? Answer; Where ever the Vote on November 6th 2012 takes us...

          God Bless America !!!

You'll have to use an entire roll of toilet paper after that massive load of dung you've just posted. There's no way Mitt Romney's going to win in November. Despite FOX's hammering 24/7 about the economy, it is better than it was at this time in 2008 when it was in free fall with the stock market below 8,000. That was your previous administration at work. Now you guys want to send an exact copy of that back to run the country. Who are you trying to fool? Just because you're that dumb and gullible doesn't mean the rest of us are. Here's a new Romney campaign slogan: Not a chance in hell!

Tony, I suggest you read post 2.35 under Ohio's Portman talking about Osama Obama lacking the experience to run on, and then get out your case of toilet paper, and see if you can understand the facts. Please check them out as they are all correct and not a bunch of rhetoric or impolite innuendos. Please get your facts straight!

GOP presidential candidate Romney had been part of an investment group that invested $75 million in Stericycle, a medical-waste disposal firm that has been attacked by anti-abortion groups for disposing aborted fetuses collected from family planning clinics.
