Obama says there are 'other days for politics' in mourning Colorado victims

President Obama's speech about the shooting at an Aurora, Colo., movie theater  at a campaign rally was "awkward," says NBC political director Chuck Todd. Both leading presidential contenders are suspending advertising in the state.

Updated 12:53 p.m. - The shooting of moviegoers in Colorado “reminds us all of the ways that we are united as one American family,” President Barack Obama said Friday in remarks mourning the victims of the overnight massacre.

Speaking in Florida, where he cut short a campaign trip, the president led a crowd in a moment of silence and called for Americans to reflect on what he called a senseless act of violence.

“Even as we learn how this happened and who's responsible, we may never understand what leads anybody to terrorize their fellow human beings like this,” Obama said. “If there's anything to take away from this tragedy it's the reminder that life is very fragile. Our time here is limited and precious.”

Mitt Romney, speaking early Friday afternoon in New Hampshire, said: "Our hearts break with the sadness of this unspeakable tragedy. Ann and I join the president and first lady -- and all Americans -- in offering our deepest condolences to those whose lives were shattered in a few moments of evil in Colorado."

The presidential campaign was essentially put on hold after a gunman waged an assault on viewers of a midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” in Aurora, east of Denver.

Speaking at a planned campaign rally in Bow, New Hampshire GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney set aside politics and spoke of the mass shooting in Colorardo.

Obama canceled a planned campaign stop for later Friday in Florida to return to the White House; Vice President Joe Biden and first lady Michelle Obama also canceled political events set for Friday afternoon. The Romney campaign canceled a planned series of radio interviews this afternoon.

“I am so moved by your support, but there are going to be other days for politics. This, I think, is a day for prayer and reflection,” the president told supporters.

Additionally, the both the Romney and Obama campaigns put a hold on airing political ads on television on Colorado for at least the weekend.

"I stand before you today not as a man running for office, but as a father and grandfather, a husband and an American," Romney said, also striking an apolitical tone in his statement. "This is a time for each of us to look into our hearts and remember how much we love one another and how much we love and how much we care for our great country."

Details from the shooting were still emerging as of late Friday morning, but White House press secretary Jay Carney said that the president was first notified of the shooting at 5:26 a.m. ET by John Brennan, his homeland security adviser. Obama called the mayor of Aurora later in the morning, and received a follow-up briefing from Brennan, White House chief of staff Jack Lew, and FBI Director Robert Mueller.

"The president orders that his administration do everything that it can to support the people of Aurora in this extraordinarily difficult time,” Carney said in a gaggle aboard Air Force One.

President Barack Obama steps off Air Force One upon arrival at Southwest Florida International Airport July 20, 2012 in Fort Myers, Florida.

Most political reaction revolved around expressing sympathies for the victims of the shooting.

"I am stunned and furious at the news of the shooting at the Aurora Century 16 Movie theatre this morning,” said Democratic Colorado Rep. Ed Perlmutter, whose district includes the site of the crime. “Colorado is not a violent place, but we have some violent people. We are a strong and resilient community, and we will lean on each other in the days, weeks and months to come.”

Few elected officials touched on the impact of the Colorado shootings on the long-simmering debate about gun control laws.

"I would say as you know the president believes we need to take common sense measures that protect the Second Amendment rights of Americans while ensuring that those who should not have guns under existing laws do not get them," Carney said when asked about the impact of the shooting on the gun debate. "We're making progress in that regard in terms of improving the volume and quality of information on background checks, but I have nothing additional on that for you. This is obviously a recent event."

One of the few exceptions to that came from New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a longtime advocate for stricter gun laws.

At a planned campaign event in Fort Myers, Fla. President Barack Obama steers away from politics and leads the nation in a moment of silence for the victims of the mass shooting in Colorado.

"You know, soothing words are nice, but maybe it's time that the two people who want to be president of the United States stand up and tell us what they are going to do about it, because this is obviously a problem across the country," Bloomberg said on WOR Radio in New York. "No matter where you stand on the Second Amendment, no matter where you stand on guns, we have a right to hear from both of them concretely, not just in generalities -- specifically, what are they going to do about guns?"

It's very nice to see each of the two candidates showing that there is a time and place for everything. Today is not the time for campaigning in the light of this tragic event.

My condolences to the families who lost loved ones and to the survivors who lived through this horrific event.

The liberal media already jumped all over this trying to claim it was a tea party guy.

WRONG MR. GEORGE STEPHANOLPOULOS

On Good Morning America, ABC News' Brian Ross and George Stephanolpoulos suggested that the Tea Party might be connected to the mass shootings early this morning in an Aurora, CO theater during a screening of the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises. The mainstream media attempted to blame the Tea Party for the Tuscon shootings in January 2011, shortly after Republicans swept the midterm elections. Now, in the critical 2012 elections, the mainstream media seems poised to do the same--and ABC News has led the way.

Here is the exchange between ABC News chief investigator Brian Ross and host George Stephanopoulos about apparent suspect James Holmes:

Stephanolpoulos: I'm going to go to Brian Ross. You've been investigating the background of Jim Holmes here. You found something that might be significant.

Ross: There's a Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado, page on the Colorado Tea party site as well, talking about him joining the Tea Party last year. Now, we don't know if this is the same Jim Holmes. But it's Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado.

Stephanolpoulos: Okay, we'll keep looking at that. Brian Ross, thanks very much.

How interesting that Ross and ABC News should think to look to the Tea Party website first--and to broadcast politically volatile information without verifying if that "Jim Holmes" is the same as the suspect.

The "Jim Holmes" page on the Colorado Tea Party website is advertising an event with Middle East commentator Brigitte Gabriel next Thursday, July 26--hardly the behavior of a man who expected to be committing a deadly crime on July 20 for which he would certainly be apprehended and might not survive.

Look for more scapegoating from the mainstream media and the Democrats in the hours and days to follow.

UPDATE: The James Holmes arrested at the Aurora theater was 24 years old and seems to be from Denver, CO, according to a Facebook profile (a similar Facebook profile linked by a local news reporter has not been confirmed as the suspect's profile, either). There are many people with the name "James Holmes" in the area, and the James Homes on the Tea Party website could match a James Homes from Aurora, CO who is in his fifties and therefore does not fit the description of the suspect. More evidence that Ross, Stephanolpoulos and ABC rushed to blame the Tea Party without confirmation that the suspect is also the Tea Party member.

Developing...

Just for you Anna Molly.

Breitbart News spoke to James Michael Holmes, the Tea Party member falsely identified this morning by ABC News' Brian Ross and George Stephanopoulos on Good Morning America as the possible suspect in the mass shooting early this morning at a screening of the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises. He is a 52-year-old Hispanic conservative who joined the Tea Party after becoming disillusioned with the Republican party.

"It was freaky," said Holmes, describing his reaction when ABC News speculated that he was the culprit who entered a crowded theater and opened fire on dozens of innocent men, women, and children. He disconnected his telephone and says that he is worried about members of his family who might be contacted by the media.

ABC News has since corrected its initial report, but tried to share the blame with "social media" and "members of the public" at first:

An earlier ABC News broadcast report suggested that a Jim Holmes of a Colorado Tea Party organization might be the suspect, but that report was incorrect. Several other local residents with similar names were also contacted via social media by members of the public who mistook them for the suspect.

Now the correction has been updated, with ABC News and Brian Ross taking full responsibility, and apologizing:

An earlier ABC News broadcast report suggested that a Jim Holmes of a Colorado Tea Party organization might be the suspect, but that report was incorrect. ABC News and Brian Ross apologize for the mistake, and for disseminating that information before it was properly vetted.

Holmes reached out to Breitbart News to explain that he is not the suspect initially identified by ABC News, nor is he the James Holmes mentioned in a separate article by Breitbart News.

He is a conservative activist who has worked in law enforcement, and who used to work at the county courthouse in Aurora near the theater where the shootings took place.

He described his recent decision to join the Tea Party Patriots:

I felt a general dissatisfaction with what I guess I like to characterize as the establishment Republicans. I had been to Republican conventions to try to get involved, to see who I could join or get aligned with. I wanted to be effective in changing the outcome for my country. I wouldn't say I was stonewalled, nobody answered me in the Republican Party--not a soul would contact me. I even paid to get involved with the Colorado Hispanic Republicans and nothing happened. The only people that would really be open and honest and invite me to participate were the Tea Party Patriots. I had offers to come to this lecture and that lecture, and offers to come to trainings, so it was something that felt like it was politically active.

@ Elliott --

I wasn't speaking to the substance, Elliott - just to the proposition that you would use Breitbart as a source and claim that Stephanopoulos was biased.

After all, what was Breitbart's first reaction?

It was immediately to try to disprove a tea party connection.

I wonder why he was so worried about it.

After all, I doubt that any tea party members even carry guns, don't you?

Only liberals are gun nuts.

Sandy --

Politics takes a back seat today.

Au contraire. Both sides are wrong. It's the politics of guns that did this.

And both sides need to own up to it.

even the prez came out with his famous "if i had a son he would look like treyvon."

so a bunch of white people are killed and its not political?

couldnt the shooter be a black, white guy with a great great great aunt that was 1/2 mexican and 1/4 cherokee and 1/4 eskimo??

couldnt the media FIND a way to politicize this?

i just find it very odd, and very 2 faced to make one shooting a political and racial bonanza, and anothe one a day of reflection.

Except that after they found someone in Aurora CO with the same name posting on a TP site, and commented that they would "keep checking it", they then posted this: "An earlier ABC News broadcast report suggested that a Jim Holmes of a Colorado Tea Party organization might be the suspect, but that report was incorrect. ABC News and Brian Ross apologize for the mistake, and for disseminating that information before it was properly vetted."

So did Breitbart ever apologize for the doctored ACORN videos and the edited Shirley Sherrod speech? Just wondering.

Could everybody here just stop for a second? Just a second. All that I have read here for the last 10 minutes is people spitting and throwing eggs at each other. We are forgetting the point.

People are dead. NBC.com should set aside a page for these victims where no comments are allowed. No comments. Period.

Just a page of silence where everyone here will have to shut the #@&! up for five minutes and pray for these people and their families.

...............................................

May their souls rest in peace.

@Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL

" ...Any regular on this board knows perhaps no one leans further left than I do. Having said that, today I am not a Democrat... I am an American first & foremost! This isn't about party - it's about humanity... I think everyone should give it a try..."

Feisty, I know what you mean to say, and I concur. But I have a little different take on your observation if I may.......

I wonder why we can't be "Americans first" EVERY day. Why do we need a national tragedy or a horrific, violent event to make us remember all too briefly that we are "Americans first", citizens of one world, and members of one race; the Human race?

Isn't the underlying reason why absolutely nothing in the interest of our nation and the American people has been accomplished in the US Congress (and in Washington DC in general) for the past decade or more because THEY, our elected "leaders" have forgotten that they are supposed to be "Americans first"?

I know it's a lot to ask, but maybe we should all begin to challenge ourselves to tone-down the rhetoric EVERY day.

We know we're not going to get civility from the petulant children who walk the halls of Capitol Hill, ... but why can't WE serve as EXAMPLES of what we expect for our country?

The silly game we see played-out on these discussion threads, of trying to collapse the comments of those with whom we disagree (trying to silence them) is not the American way.

How can any of us assert on these discussion threads our own individual patriotism, and our individual belief in the American Constitutional protections of the Bill of Rights at the same time we are trying to collapse (silence) the comments of those who have different points of view?

That's downright "un-American", folks. Everyone, let's let the moderators take care of the worst abuses of rhetoric on these threads. Respond to posts when you disagree. Take issue with statements you consider inaccurate. Try to do it in a thoughtful, intelligent and civil way. But don't try to silence others. Knock it off! Grow up! Remember we are "Americans first"!

Try to remember the old American saying "While I disagree with your opinion, I will defend your right to express it."

Civility starts here, folks. Let's not forget that vitriol and incivility feeds vitriol and incivility. And some of our fellow citizens are not content with verbal responses but are fueled by the divisiveness to take independent and sometimes violent action!

Come on folks, let's act like adults. Let's tone down the rhetoric. Let's tone down OUR OWN rhetoric.

Let's remember EVERY day that we are "Americans first" and that we are all members of the "Human race."

Let's try to reach deep down inside ourselves and find our humanity EVERY day; not just during times of tragedy and reflection.

AK SABIN...

I think you meant to say “Right Wing Nut Job”!!! those on the left are anti- gun and anti-violence, we are generally better educated and tend to look for peaceful discourse ….you don’t find people on the left attending rallies carrying assault weapons and side arms carrying signs promoting a 2nd amendment solution to government, you don’t see people on the left bombing Planned Parenthood clinics or murdering their doctors because a fox news personality told them to do so, you don’t see those on the left advocating hatred or intolerance, you don’t see those on the left taking these senseless acts and using them to promote even less restrictive gun laws… these are definitely Right wing traits so maybe you need to be taking a long hard look at your litter!!!

FORGET THE SOCIOPOLITICAL PLATFORM!

Forget the labels of red, yellow, brown, black, white, bi, gay, straight, Christian, Muslim, Jew, Hindu, Buddhist, and whatever else we like to label ourselves and each other as. Those are intangibles, and irrelevant.

The simple fact here today is that people died who didn't have to. People who were minding their own business going out to see one of the most-anticipated move debuts of the year and were gunned down, had their lives end horribly, tragically, for no apparent purpose that we can see. If you have a Deity that you believe in, ask that Deity for strength, ask that Deity to help those injured, the children most of all; ask that they be healed quickly, body, mind and spirit. Step outside of yourself and your life for once and give your most sincere prayers/thoughts/wishes to the victims of this tragedy.

The person who did this is as much a victim as anyone else, the victim of a twisted mind and skewed logic that made this senseless act make sense to him. He is to be pitied; if you believe in a Deity, ask that Deity for wisdom, for tolerance, for patience and forgiveness. The person who can commit this kind of outrage is truly ill.

His family is as much a victim as those shot; they too are shocked, stunned, horrified at this senseless act of violence. Keep them in mind as well, for he was their son, their brother, cousin, nephew, maybe uncle. He was once an innocent, as the children he shot were innocent.

Keep those victims in mind; for the ones that died, hope that their passing was quick and they did not suffer. Hope that their families ill be able to celebrate the lives they lived, however long or short; that they can remember their loved ones as they were, instead of as they are. For the victims still alive, hope for a speedy recovery, for full recovery in body, mind and spirit; hope that they will not succumb to their injuries.

And lastly, hope for yourselves, your fellow man, and your nation. Never forget the horror and tragedy of this day; remember that we are all human and we are all united in shock and horror and sadness in this one moment, and remember the unity in days to come as more details of the lives ruined bring their humanity before our eyes.

There will be plenty of time, in the days to come, to point fingers, assign blame, claim that it was this political faction or that political faction, that this was not done right, that that did not happen. For now, let us simply unite our voices in a single call for support, sympathy; support those who will need healing, and send good wishes after those who left us last night.

It is a sad day. I mourn for the loss of those who left and for those who are left, hollow and weeping, without understanding, and without reason. Those who will live, will live always, if they are fortunate, just ahead, but within reach, of the horror of today. Human beings must find, and move to the place that holds the peace and safety of high and common affinity. A place that does not allow individual differences to fracture the greater bond of the collective, shared singularity of brotherhood. Sigh, we have a way yet to travel, if we are to ever get there. I hope we will. I so hope we will.

From President Obama's remarks on the Colorado shooting:

"…Now, even as we learn how this happened and who's responsible, we may never understand what leads anybody to terrorize their fellow human beings like this. Such violence, such evil is senseless. It's beyond reason. But while we will never know fully what causes somebody to take the life of another, we do know what makes life worth living. The people we lost in Aurora loved and they were loved. They were mothers and fathers; they were husbands and wives; sisters and brothers; sons and daughters, friends and neighbors. They had hopes for the future and they had dreams that were not yet fulfilled.

So what I’d ask everybody to do, I’d like us to pause in a moment of silence for the victims of this terrible tragedy, for the people who knew them and loved them, for those who are still struggling to recover, and for all the victims of less publicized acts of violence that plague our communities every single day. So if everybody can just take a moment.

Okay…now if you'll excuse me I have to go authorize some more drone strikes that have killed hundreds of innocent civilians including women and children in some of the poorest regions of the world *. Then I'm having a great dinner and watching a movie in the White House screening room with my kids. Thank you and God Bless America."

* Wikipeia: Based on extensive research, the Bureau of Investigative Journalism found that between 391 – 780 civilians were killed out of a total of between 1,658 and 2,597 and that 160 children are reported among the deaths. The Bureau also revealed that since President Obama took office at least 50 civilians were killed in follow-up strikes when they had gone to help victims and more than 20 civilians have also been attacked in deliberate strikes on funerals and mourners, tactics that have been condemned by legal experts.

Nope, I meant left-wing nut job, just like the OWS member who fired on the white house not too long ago...but you with short-term memory affliction (and selective) will disregard that as well. Ask yourself, " How does a 24 y.o. unemployed, bankrupt, failing college student acquire over $20k in weapons and sophisticated tactical gear?' Go ahead and collapse, I know how fond you are of the right to free speach.

James E. Holmes. Proud member of Occupy San Diego. Although OWS leaders claim this is not the same "James" that shot up the movie theater in Colorado, they have no proof to the contrary. Just like when one of the Occupy D.C. protesters opened fire on the White House and was subsequently arrested.

"Reports by a Florida private investigator connect the Aurora Colorado shooter with Occupy San Diego. The motivation for the shooting appears to be the negative portrayal of the Occupy Wall Street movement. There are conflicting reports about this but it fits with our coverage of the plot of the movie. The shooter is being called a "black block" member of occupy who felt the movement was not radical enough."

Oh, yeah, if it's on Facebook, it's gotta be true, right? /sarc/ Hopefully the members of Occupy will demand an apology and storm the internet when this is demonstrated to be false. Just like the TPers did when a GMA reporter found someone by the same name on an Aurora CO TP site. Seriously, a FLORIDA private investigator found evidence about someone in CA and CO when the authorities hadn't? Really???

          Obama lies,,, Romney tries

. society stagnates when independent productive achievers are socially demonized and even punished for their accomplishments... Society's most productive citizens refuse to be exploited by increasing taxation and government regulations and go on strike by disappearing [and dropping out of everyday society]."

Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin repudiated his U.S. citizenship right before Facebook's much anticipated IPO this month. While Saverin had already been living in Singapore, dropping his U.S. citizenship allowed him to escape millions of dollars in capital gains taxes that his higher-valued Facebook shares would eventually trigger.

          .

Government numbers, according to Bloomberg, show "a record 1,780 gave up their U.S. passports last year compared with 235 in 2008."

A Brazilian living in Singapore gives up his status as a naturalized US citizen to escape taxes from a place he hasn't lived for years. OMG, say it isn't so.

When David and Charles Koch renounce their citizenship, THAT will be news. The Conservative myth of confiscatory taxation is disproven immediately by the fact that living here hasn't prevented them from rapidly increasing their fortunes.

Same thing is true of the rest of the top 1%, and especially the top 0.1% who are seeking tax treatment even more favorable than what they already have.

“I am so moved by your support, but there are going to be other days for politics. This, I think, is a day for prayer and reflection,” the president told supporters.

Very well said Mr. President. There are plenty of days left for politics before the election. It's nice to see both sides taking this approach. Thoughts and prayers to those impacted by this horrible tragedy.

President Obama: “If there's anything to take away from this tragedy it's the reminder that life is very fragile. Our time here is limited and precious.”

I tried to say kind of the same thing on First Thoughts this morning before I'd even read about this tragedy. Our time here is very limited and very precious - far too precious to waste it on meaningless insults and attacks on people we don't even know, especially over the often very trivial issues we spend so much time arguing about. As Grimey says, there's still plenty of time for that, and we can start all over again tomorrow. But for today, we owe it to the victims, to their friends and families, to the first responders to the scene, and even to ourselves to let our better angels rule the day. Instead of insulting perfect strangers the rest of the day, perhaps we should all reach out to someone we do know and tell them how much they mean to us while we still can. "Our time here is limited and precious".

I just heard the President say he and First Lady have the comfort of hugging their daughters tonight the families in Colorado won't. (paraphasing)

That broke my heart. I am in tear mode now. I am not looking for sympathy; but in October it will be a year since I lost my beautiful, young daughter I'm sure there are so many others here who lost a loved one or ones too. Let's think of the heartbreak these families are going through rather than hurling insensitivity.

I can be thankful I have a 9 year old great-grandson whom I love with all my heart to love and hug when he comes over.

Life is precious ya'll. Let's appreciate it today.

Thank You Mr. President for being a compassionate Leader.

Thank You Mr. Romney for following suit

[I]f you don't have any fresh ideas, then you use stale tactics to scare the voters. If you don't have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from." That is what Barack Obama said when he accepted his party's presidential nomination in 2008. Four years later, it reads like a prophetic description of his re-election campaign.

Yes, King Obama - life is horribly fragile.

Like when a "doctor" from an unlicensed abortion mill grabs an almost born baby and thrusts scissors into its skull to complete the "abortion".

Yes, that little skull is fragile.

            You are correct.

My problem is that Romney came out publicly first however MSNBC's headline is that Obama says there will be other days for politics. I agree with both men but unfortunately MSNBC has to show it as one-sided.

“I will remove earmarks from PORK projects before I sign any bill.”.
“I will end Income Tax for seniors making less than $50K a year.”.
"I will bring ALL of our troops home within ONE year."
“I’ll put the Health Care negotiations on CSPAN so everyone can see who is at the table!”.
“I’ll have no lobbyists in my administration."
            "I'll close Guantanamo."
"I'll resign if I don't cut the deficit in half by the end of four years."
"I'll unite the people of this great country."

The truth is reality and reality for the president is doing whatever he can to move people to elect him again. What he did was the same as someone going out selling black armbands to honor the people at the movie house. Everyone has empathy and recognizes this as a tragic event. No one needs crappy political card playing by Mr. President the kind and thoughtful one who is going to take the whole day off. You are the morons if you buy into this little speech. Instead he laces his little words with political references which completely shifted the focus to him and not the poor victims. Figure it out.

Herein lies the problem: I don't believe the sincerity of the president. I believe this is exactly what Gofigureit is trying to say. While liberals all fawn over Obama's every word as if it has some sort of celestial meaning, real people like me see through the BS he's putting forth. Obama may have been looking for an excuse to go back to the hotel room to take a nap... ever consider that one? If you believe Obama cares one whit for any of the victims of the shooting, then you are really off in la la land.

Here I am saddened and maybe the only one really arguing for the focus to shift back to the victims and not the President and political nonsense.

Aren't you the pious one. The only person that really cares, lol. All you've done is take the focus off the victims so that you could whine about the president doing his job. The reason he made the "political" statement was that he was in the process of canceling a political event.

Honestly, this thread shows just how pathetic and desperate the Republicans are. Clearly you're worried about the massive lead president Obama has on the electoral map and the leads he holds in most of the swing states.

President Obama takes the high road - at least for one day.

But he must not trouble himself with the why and do the typical liberal thing which is think it to death.

We all know why. The man is a sociopath. He will someday meet his Maker for the final judgment.

Obummer's statement shows us clearly that this shooter wasn't conservative. Now that it's becoming more and more clear that this was an Occupy Black Bloc member you can expect the media to work overtime to try to quell the story all together or at least the political aspect.

However, it doesn't matter either way and I think you should put your vitriol away for a minute and pretend to be a caring, empathetic human being.

I tip my hat to the President (and Romney) for not campaigning today because of this tragedy.

I do hope though that the male and female who were shouting out after the president made his announcement realize what pathetic pieces of crap they are and seek counseling on how to behave appropriately.

mhrjhn: Agreed. I was pleased that both Governor Romney and President Obama cancelled events and agreed not to air ads in Colorado.

I wish all of our politicians behaved in such a reserved manner. Unfortunately, Mayor Bloomberg chose to bring up gun control. And, Rep. Gohmert decided to weigh in several issues, as well.

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) said Friday that the shootings that took place in an Aurora, Colo. movie theater hours earlier were a result of "ongoing attacks on Judeo-Christian beliefs" and questioned why nobody else in the theater had a gun to take down the shooter.

During a radio interview on The Heritage Foundation's "Istook Live!" show, Gohmert was asked why he believes such senseless acts of violence take place. Gohmert responded by talking about the weakening of Christian values in the country.

"Some of us happen to believe that when our founders talked about guarding our virtue and freedom, that that was important," he said. "Whether it's John Adams saying our Constitution was made only for moral and religious people ... Ben Franklin, only a virtuous people are capable of freedom, as nations become corrupt and vicious they have more need of masters. We have been at war with the very pillars, the very foundation of this country."

"You know what really gets me, as a Christian, is to see the ongoing attacks on Judeo-Christian beliefs, and then some senseless crazy act of a derelict takes place."

That's because, these morons on the blog sites are not really here to show love or sympathy. They are here today to do what the come everyday to do..... spread hate and discord. They feel that noone's opinions matters but theirs. And since most of us have decided to put politics aside in respect for the lost and injured... they'd rather show how hateful and different they are from the rest of us. Its so sad, because to me, its only another outlet for sad, crazy, violent and hateful people that the killer must have been.

I feel for all those who are involved in this tragedy. It never should happen.

To those who feel the need to put others on the "ignore" list that is another thing. You think your so above everyone that I find you even more repulsive today. This is a tragedy and their is no other way to put it. We kill thousands of babies a day and you look the other way and feel it's a woman's right to kill before birth. Then you say God Bless in your posts. Job1 you are not fooling anyone with your phony remarks. We know you have no belief in God or moral standing in any form.

Fiesty said to take the high road and become Americans first today and leave party out of it. That summed it up pretty good for me. I am an American first everyday. I have fought for this country and I will continue to do so. That is why I am a Republican. I can't take off my Republican jacket and become an American, they go together. But a Democrat can't be a Democrat and an American at the same time. That is the difference between the two parties.

Now for the phoney debate of the Dems that it is the guns fault. No it is not. It is the goof balls who did it. I do carry a gun for that reason.

I am a Christian and I pray to God for our Country daily. I think you should also.

Maybe you should pray to God to give you a loving heart instead of the stone you seem to be carrying inside you now. Not only are you "holier than thou" but also a self proclaimed know it all. For someone who said he agreed to leaving party out of this, you managed to insert it right in the middle of your remarks along with your attitude on carrying a gun so you are prepared for "goof balls".' Yep, God would approve of those so willing to shoot someone else, almost like you can't wait for the opportunity.

On this terrible day where so many people are mourning the loss of their loved ones, you should get down on your knees and ask God to forgive your hard hearted, self absorbed attitude. Maybe you could open your heart to pray for those who are suffering today and will be for a long time to come. So if you won't say it, I will.

Dear Lord in heaven, please comfort and bless those who suffer today, may those who lost their lives today find your everlasting peace. Amen

Not in the least. Take your evil prism glasses off and read my post above. It is really pretty clear. My heart is not stone. I feel for the families. I do not feel for the fake indignation of others. I did not agree to leaving party out of it. I stated my feelings about how to be an American a democrat has to shelf his party. I do not feel that way because my Republicans can keep there affiliation and still be Americans.

But a Democrat can't be a Democrat and an American at the same time. That is the difference between the two parties.

If you feel that way you have no idea what being an American is really all about. You have every right as an American to believe as you wish. You have no right to claim that those who disagree with you can't also be Americans.

I am an American. I am a Christian. I am a Democrat. I am a Liberal. That is fact, no matter how hard Conservatism works to define me out of society.

History will not look well upon this time in which the Republican Party mainstreamed crazy.

If you truly feel this way (instead of having just gotten carried away in the moment), then YOU are the one in the wrong country. There are many countries where there is really only one party and dissent is not allowed. North Korea comes to mind.

Days ago Rush Limbaugh attacked this BATMAN movie. My first thought was that he'd pissed off one of his ditto-head lunatic followers who went on a murder spree at the movie opening. Limbaugh claims the movie's villain BANE was created to represent Mitt Romney's business, BAIN. He says the movie is trying to implant anti-Romney messages. Crazy? You bet. The BANE character was created 40 years ago while Romney was harassing gay classmates at prep school, but when Limbaugh attacked the movie I wondered if a follower would do something nutty. Don't know but I would not be surprised.

So, you have turned this into being the fault of Limbaugh, and somehow tagged the event with something Romney did not do 50 years ago when he was in prep school. And maybe the water was tainted because of the evil right wing lunatics out there. Maybe because of the UFO that landed in Rosewell 50 years ago. Tag all you want loser, but what about some primary focus on the poor individuals involved.

I hope all of the emergency personnel - police, EMT's, firemen, doctors etc, also receive the follow-up care they need in order to not be carrying the burden of this mass murder too. They have had to go through so much - more than anyone ever plans.

Obama is right. There are other days for politics. His team will take the rest of the day off and look for ways to pin the responsibility for this on conservatives.

In addition to being right about this sad day, our President is a class act all the way. Too bad the same can't be said of people like Montana Son.

The victims and their families deserve a moment of silence.

However, this is the third article I've read (cnn was another) that basically said... Obama suspends campaign as a title... and in the end of the article state "Oh yeah, Romney did the exact same thing".

I find that a little biased.

Thanks, thetotas, I was going to say the same thing.

                      "To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time to every purpose, under Heaven

A time to build up ,a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together."

(The Byrds, by way of Pete Seeger and the Book of Ecclesiastes)

We can go back to breaking things down and casting stones tomorrow. Today is a time to mourn.

King Obama has not suspended his campaign. It has quit due to lack of interest.

They tried the kiss cam (turn our stomachs)

Tried pictures of his kids on vacation (sure, we all ride in limos during vacations)

They tried to show King O doing work ( he left for lack of interest)

They tried to have a campaign meeting (both attendees left for lunch). Does the rain mean anything to you King Obama? The party is over. Everyone knows you are a fraud and your vaunted "hope and change" has been revealed for the Socialism it is.

The problem with Socialism is that you run out of other people's money real fast.

Nope, pack it in. King Obama has called off his campaign.

He is now going to run for King of the World. That way - his hometown Africa vote is counted.

This is not the time you pathetic no talent pundits that incorporate no clue military rule and spectrum running through your own heads-with no cause underneath- trying to isolate absolutely nothing with the side effect of suppressing the most repulsive war crimes known to man with the spectrum to the left and right of what is running through your own pathetic head responsible for what you had you reported on that gave antichrist a bump in the polls..

Still want to know who ordered his you tube videos of the air that exactly articulated what I signed under oath to the attorney general of my state along with his dream journal that is nothing like natural dreams (my little girl friend had a dream of me before she started getting a sudden onset of heart attacks like that ultra sensitive waste of time procedure someone provides war time legal cover over the full blown and constant assaults that occurs in between this bull @!$%# vudu)

Actually there is no better time to separate the two then right now you shameful cowards...

I tired my best to explain the most sickening truth to defend his life (hoping someone would do the same to me, ya right in this sulfur wreaking cowardly perversion) and it came at very great expense to my life but I would do it over and over so I leave this earth on my terms (no matter how forced) trash...

Give it up, Tony. What I am viewing is classiness all around from your candidate and the president.

We are tucked away and comfy. So are the candidates. But those who lost their babies and loved ones last night are not. Do you think that the powers that be would withhold aid and comfort because of their party affiliation or who they are going to vote for? No. But I certainly do wonder about you now.

I am sure ol' comfy boy Socialist Dictator King Obama would offer help.

His healthcare is a good example of his help:

                            1. Pay more for less

                            2. Do more paperwork and have less options

                            3. Make Dr's get paid less, that way they will never pay off school loans.

                            4. Increase abortion "health" services. (whose health are they referring to - the dead baby's??)

                            5. Make sure the cost of this program skyrocket just like the last FEDERAL attempt at healthcare help - Medicaire ( yes THAT Medicaire that eats trillions every year and is awash in corruption)

Yes sir ree bobby - now THAT is good ol hope and change.

I HOPE we CHANGE presidents QUICKLY

This is what's already coming in emails:

                              Immediate Action Needed:
Stop the UN From Taking Our Guns Away!

If you are not already scared to death of the vision and direction of the Obama Administration this will surely rattle your gun safe. Throughout the month of July at a UN conference, attendees will modify and cement all the parts of the 'Arms Trade Treaty'. Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have shown support for this treaty and will approve it once the opportunity arrives. Once they sign the treaty our last defense is the senate; they would need 67 out of 100 votes to pass ATT. We must be sure to remind every member of the Senate to protect our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms."

This is what we'll be confronting -- Complete insanity. The NRA has been making this stuff up for 4 years. Their line is: "Obama hasn't done anything THAT'S THE PLAN -- to make us believe he wasn't gonna do anything THEN BAM He'll do something, see?"

It's a pretty impossible situation. As a gun owner and former gunsmith I feel numb. I can't fathom the idea of opening fire on a crowd of complete strangers. Why would you do that? What makes a person capable of doing that?

Prayers and thoughts to the victims and their families.

REBEL: You think demagogues like Rushbo don't try to stir people up to violence? When folks like Rush call people "Baby Killers" and the like and then some religious crazy goes and shoots someone, you don't think the 2 are are related? When you costantly question the patriotism and Americanism of your opponents and seek to dehumanize them, you had better believe it helps to stir up the waters of discontent and violence.

That is Limbaugh's calling card, spewing half truths and outright lies and complete distortions. You need look no further than what he did to Sandar Fluke to see how he warps the truth.

People on the left continually accuse conservative talk show hosts of using half truths. But when asked for examples, they can't site any. The Kings of half truths are the people of MSNBC. Just look what they have done with the tapes in the Travon Martin shooting. They got caught red handed in doctoring audio tapes to make Zimmerman look like a racist.

First off .. it's day of morning. Can't you resist just for one day.

Since you bring it up ... how many times has fox news been caught red handed doing the same thing. 1000 times ? 2000?

Maybe you think you are clever for blaming the other side for what you also are doing .. but it doesn't wash with me .. especially on a day like this.

Why don't you look at the comments here dude .. VAST majority of comments by progressives are sympathy for the victims ... VAST majority of comments by Republicans and tea people are attacks on Obama and Democrats.

This says all I need to know about Republican tea people. But I encourage you all to keep it up. Some independants haven't decided who the real good guys are yet.

I read somewhere that one of the victims was a 3 month old child.

Who brings a 3 month old baby to a midnight screening of Batman!

The three-month-old baby was among the injured, not the dead. Thank goodness. Also, a six-year-old child was injured but not killed.
