With Florida retirees, playful Obama brushes off tough campaign

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Speaking to a boisterous crowd at a retirement community here, President Obama played the seasoned campaign veteran, unbowed by his opponent Mitt Romney’s negative ads even as the two trade barbs over each other's records and rhetoric.

“Frankly, I'd be worried if this were my first campaign. But I've been to this rodeo before,” Obama told a crowd of 675 at the Century Village retirement community on Thursday.

He joked that the crowd should just mute the negative TV ads inundating this crucial swing state, and acknowledged that their visual impact wouldn’t be too appealing either.

“Some of the pictures of me will be unflattering. Now, my face is all distorted, one eye's all droopy,” he said, imitating what some of the images in the ads would look like. “Right? I'm looking all grim,” he continued as the crowd roared with laughter.

The group of seniors and their family members, packed into a low-ceilinged clubhouse, was particularly rowdy, frequently shouting words of encouragement over the president and breaking into chants of “four more years!” whenever he paused.

The president seemed to feed off the crowd, especially after he made his way to the podium having waded through a crowd of senior women who were particularly excited to see him.

“That’s the most kisses I’ve gotten at any campaign event!” he said as he reached the stage.

Later, as an audience member’s phone rang, the president joked that it was his wife Michelle calling because she heard he was getting so much affection at the event.

Obama tailored his speech to fit this crowd, hitting similar notes as he did earlier at an event in Jacksonville - criticizing Romney’s plans for Medicare (he says Romney’s changes would cost seniors up to $6,400 more) but also appealing to the group’s strong support for Israel.

He condemned the “barbaric” terrorist attack in Bulgaria that killed five Israelis.

“I know a lot of people in this community care about the state of Israel. And we are heartbroken,” he said of the bombing.

He added that the rapid changes in the Middle East and the bloodshed in Syria meant that “now's the time to make sure we're doing everything we can to protect Israel's security.”

The president continues his campaign swing through Florida Friday with stops in Fort Myers and Orlando.

Yeah, stroke the senior vote while burying the next generation in exponetial debt. But, whatever it takes to get re-elected right on.

A great sit down talk on how the jobs and the tax base will increase would be a new topic if specifics could be provided.......

It's called connecting with your audience. Something his opponent knows jack-sh!t about. Romney's so wooden and stiff, that I think his face is going to crack at any moment.

Reb - I totally agree but it is not any President's job to deal with taxes and/or spending, or jobs - but I'm sure you know that already. Just in case, though, find your copy of the Constitution and re-read Article 1, Section 8.

The Founding Fathers thought of the House of Representatives as the "Peoples' House" and gave the House of Representatives all of the authority to originate any bill dealing with taxing or spending.

By the way, the Senate originally was designed to represent the interests of the various states. That's why the were appointed by their state legislature. It wasn't until the 17th Amendment to the Constitution was adopted that we the people had the right to vote for our own Senators.

Got a problem with major (or minor) issues such as taxes, spending, unemployment, etc. give your Congressman a call - you do know who he or she is, right?

Rom Nut dosn't have to worry about connecting to the public This is off the subject some what BUT THIS IS WHY

Americans have every right to assume that Mittens is hiding something
embarrassing or illegal. Republicans urge Romney to release more tax
returns while wondering what secrets he’s trying to keep. And the campaign’s attempt to explain how and when Romney left Bain Capital — he’s supposed to have “retired retroactively” at some unspecified date — has become an instant punch line and joke.

Romney has made a totally unreasonable claim: Romney denied any responsibility for outsourcing and job cuts at companies Bain owned or controlled after he left to run the Winter Olympics in 1999.

This is an absurd position to take. Romney has boasted of his prowess at creating jobs by pointing to successful companies in which Bain invested, such as Staples. But much of this growth took place after 1999. Romney was trying to take credit for post-departure successes but not for failures. Bain Capital’s purpose wasn’t to create jobs anyway; it was to create wealth for Mittens.

He then tried to insist on another ridiculous proposition, which is that he left Bain suddenly and completely in 1999. THIS CANNOT POSSIBLY BE TRUE. Romney was Bain Capital — chairman, chief executive and sole stockholder. There is no way he could have disentangled himself from the firm so abruptly. As late as 2002, Bain’s filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission list Romney as chairman, chief executive and
sole stockholder.

If you look at Romney’s signature on those documents and listen to what he’s been saying you have to conclude that either he lied to the SEC or he’s lying now.

Flip Flop has spent the better part of a decade running for president. Did it never occur to him that if he ever won the nomination, there would come a time when he was under pressure to release multiple years’ worth of tax returns? Did he think everyone would forget that it was his own father, George Romney, who set the modern standard for financial disclosure? Did he not recall that when he was being considered for the vice presidential nod four years ago, he furnished tax returns spanning more than two decades to John McCain’s campaign? And McCain didn’t pick him WHY?

Clearly he knew the subject would come up. The only reasonable conclusion
to draw is that Romney believes that while stonewalling on his taxes may cost him some support, releasing them would cost him more.

If Romney is trying to hide something, what is it? Could there have been more offshore accounts? Might Romney have made some kind of
profitable —bet against the U.S. economy? Did he lie on his taxes? – A felony. Did he lie to the SEC? - A felony

There should be an immediate investigation into Romney by the IRS and SEC

Elliot, without that money, the GM bankruptcy would have been a complete liquidation and the end of the company - that's what Romney was proposing. As it was, they lost several divisions and closed some plants, but that money allowed GM to stay in business and it is now booming.

BTW, GM did try to get money from other sources, including Bain Capital, but no lender wanted to take the risk. The US Government did, and now it is reaping the rewards.

And it never occurred to you that it was not wise to favor only one side in this long running dispute? The only way to a peaceful resolution is to be fair and just to both sides. Those "west bank settlements" are illegal and are on stolen land, part of an elaborate scheme to steal Palestine from the Palestinians. Obama was right to oppose them. At the same time Obama recognizes the right for Israel to exist, and favors a peaceful resolution of the dispute and an end to the terrorist attacks.

This isn't a matter of "flip-flop", it is a matter of logical and reasonable diplomacy.

CC - Are you suggesting that flipping from one side to the other is good diplomacy? It's not! His amateur, fumbling attempts at diplomacy are, in fact, very dangerous to stability in the Middle East.

First, he publicly and loudly affirmed his support for a Palestinian state, even going so far as to state that Israel should return to their pre 1967 borders! This had the predictable effect of encouraging the Palestinians to seek their own separate state. Then, he had to order his Ambassador to the UN, Susan Rice, to veto any UN resolution that might create an actual Palestinian State, in order to salvage the Jewish vote.

Most presidents (not all) have had sense enough to be consistent in the messages they send to the international community. Reversals, like Obama's, only create an atmosphere of uncertainty and distrust. One can easily imagine how Obama's blunder could have resulted in a violent increase in hostilities.

I almost choked when I got to the part about Obama supporting Israel. That has got to be one of the lost obvious and blatant lie he has told. Obama has been the worst president ever when it comes to sowing support for Israel. He has repeatedly been critical of Israel and supportive of the Palestinian terrorists. Obama also supported Morsi from the Muslim Brotherhood over the secularist Shafiq for the Egyptian presidency despite the fact that the MB has called for an abrogation of the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel. Obama is far from a supporter of Israel and for him to claim otherwise is a blatant lie. This speech just goes to prove that Obama will say whatever he has to whenever he has to in order to get the votes of the people he is talking to. At least Romney will stick by his positions, even talking about repealing Obamacare in front of the NAACP when he new that this would not be a popular position with this audience. Romney stated his position and why he felt that way, Obama just takes whatever position the people he is talking to favor, whether he really agrees with that position or not.

We are now "reaping the rewards" for bialing out GM? I don't think so.

The Taxpayer owns about 600 Million shares of GM. We paid $33 per share. What is the price today? Can you say $20.14? We need the price to get to 54 to get our money back. Do you see that happening in say 10 years??

Did you know that GM has been building cars in NEW CHINESE FACTORIES?? Has been since 2010. Some of those cars are coming BACK TO THE US!! What do you say about that little tidbit of info??

Romney is horrible but Obama probably is going to do pretty much the same thing after the election:

New report foreshadows post-election assault on pensions, social programs in US

By Jack Hood
19 July 2012

The State Budget Crisis Task Forceâۥa body set up by former New York Lt. Governor Richard Ravitch and ex-Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volckerâۥhas issued a report aimed at preparing public opinion for an unprecedented attack on social services and public employees after the November elections.

The findings, which detail the deepening financial crises facing state and local governments, claims there is no money to continue funding public services and employee wages and pensions at current levels. The report's authors advocate huge cuts in health care and other services and the elimination of health and pension benefits won by public sector workers over generations of struggle.

While the report is presented as an unbiased, objective analysis, neither Ravitch nor Volcker are neutral observers. On the contrary, both are long-standing Democratic Party operatives tied to Wall Street and corporate America who oversaw ruthless attacks on the working class in the 1970s and 1980s. In addition, Ravitch in particular, has close relations with the AFL-CIO trade unions, which have collaborated in the attack on public employees.

"The fiscal crisis for states will persist long after the economy rebounds," the New York Times wrote in a summary of the report, citing "rising health care costs, underfunded pensions, ignored infrastructure needs, eroding revenues, and expected federal budget cuts" as reasons for concern over long-term budget volatility.

Expenditures, the report claims, "are growing at rates that exceed reasonable expectations for revenues… The existing trajectory of state spending, taxation, and administrative practices cannot be sustained. The basic problem is not cyclical. It is structural."

The report ignores the real causes of the fiscal crisis. In the nearly 100-page document nothing is said about how state, local, and federal government coffers have been emptied by corporate tax giveaways, multi-trillion dollar bank bailouts, and multiple wars and overseas interventions. The economic breakdown that followed the Crash of 2008 hardly merits a mention even though it led to a plunge in tax revenues as millions lost their jobs, home values plummeted and small businesses, starved of loans, went bankrupt.

The main target is public employee pensions, which have been neglected and underfunded by the states and have also seen a dramatic fall in assets as a result of the financial crisis that began with the collapse of Lehman Brothers in September, 2008. Wall Street is now hell bent on looting pension funds just as it has done the public treasury.

"Legally and politically, legislation directed at new hires is the easiest to achieve because new hires are invisible and, until hired, do not vote in union elections (where unionized)," the report explains. "[B]ut such modifications produce the smallest immediate savings and do not reduce unfunded liabilities."

In other words, simply attacking new hires, a common tactic states and local governments have used with the willing collaboration of the unions, is not enough. Current workers and retirees who have been paying into pension funds for decades must be made to pay for state deficits, despite the fact that their share of national wealth has been on the decline for the previous four decades.

The report points to an aging population as a particular reason for long-term concern. The next two decades will each see 30 percent+ increases in the over-65 population, resulting, the report claims, in increased stress on Medicaid and pension funds. Rising Medicaid costs, which must be paid on account of Medicaid's status as an entitlement program, "can no longer be absorbed without significant cuts to other essential state programs…this trend is likely to continue," the report states.

A 7.2 percent average growth in Medicaid spending is expected over the next five years alone, which, when coupled with a 3.9 percent growth in revenue, will result in an annual budget gap of $23 billion for the states by 2017.

In pointing to these trends, the report echoes complaints made by sections of the American ruling eliteâۥlike their counter-parts in Greece and other European countriesâۥthat workers are simply living too long after retirement. According to this argument, the supposedly bloated health care and retirement benefits of workers not the near-criminal and criminal activities of the financial aristocracy, is bankrupting the country. Typical were the comments of Robert Benmosche, the multi-millionaire CEO of American International Group (AIG)âۥa company that received a publicly funded bailoutâۥwho recently said retirement ages in the US and Europe should be raised to 80 years old.

The task force sheds the usual crocodile tears for "hard choices" before praising both state governments controlled by both political parties for their attacks on public employees. Some of the deepest cuts have been made in New York, Illinois and California, all controlled by Democratic governors.

"Governments have been making changes. Between 2009 and 2011, 43 states either increased employee contributions or cut benefits or both. Additional changes will be needed." These are not empty threats: this report foreshadows the strategic assault being planned by the corporate and political establishment.

While the Obama administration made trillions available to Wall Street banks, it has provided no bailout to state and local governments, which have eliminated 600,000 jobs since the Democratic president took office. On the contrary, the White House has deliberately starved the states and cities of federal funding in order to advance its agenda of slashing the jobs, living standards and working conditions of teachers and other public workers and privatizing public education and other assets.

In the coming months, the states will be required to foot more of the financial crisis, as the Obama Administration is expected to make heavy block grant cuts to state and local governments following the November election. The Obama Administration's Budget Control Act of 2011, according to the Congressional Budget Office, mandates that "discretionary spending for education, transportation, and housing programs benefiting state and local governments will shrink by 35 percent between 2012 and 2022. [The CBO] project[s] that selected income security programs, primarily those benefiting children, will decline by 35 percent during the same period."

Ten percent cuts to federal block grants would also result in a $60 billion annual loss for state and local governments. This amount is "nearly twice the size of the combined tax increases that states enacted for 2008 through 2011," the report claims.

These cuts are being made to offset a 47 percent mandatory increase for entitlement programs. The aging population met with high unemployment and the resulting loss in employer-provided health insurance plans has led to a drastic increase in the Medicaid and Medicare rolls.

Though the health care benefits and retirement savings of millions of public employees is up for the taking, the trillions obtained by the banks, Fortune 500 companies, and financial speculators in the aftermath of the financial crisis are not in play. More than 90 percent of the income produced in the post-2010 "recovery" went to the top 1 percent, but this huge sum is off-limits to settle state and local budgets.

The findings and recommendations of the Task Force are unsurprising given its architects. The Volcker and Ravitch are long-time enemies of the working class. Volcker, a life-long Democrat and former Chase Manhattan Bank executive, served as Chairman of the Federal Reserve under Presidents Carter and Reagan. In 1981, he drove interest rates to a record 20 percent, precipitating what was up to then the worst downturn since the Great Depression. Mass unemployment, factory closings and union busting were used to batter down the resistance of the American working class, which had repeatedly defied attacks on living standards through militant strikes by coal miners, auto workers and other sections of workers in the 1970s.

Volcker praised Reagan's smashing of the 1981 PATCO strike as the most important action "the administration took in helping the anti-inflation fight." The firing of 13,000 air traffic controllers, Volcker gushed, transformed "the climate of labor-management relations" both "profoundly" and "constructively." He most recently was appointed by President Obama to Chair the Economic Recovery Advisory Board, a post that he held from 2009 to 2011.

Richard Ravitch's past is similarly unambiguous. A former unelected Lt. Governor of New York, Ravitch served as an adviser to former New York Governor Hugh Carey during the "bailout" of New York City in 1975-76. Using the threat of municipal bankruptcy Ravitch helped design a plan that mandated draconian cuts to social services, eliminated of tens of thousands of city workers' jobs and slashed wages for remaining employees. It also led to the first-ever tuition fees for the City University of New York students along with a sharp increase in transportation fares.

Ravitch worked closely with then teachers' union chief Albert Shanker and other labor officials to use workers' pension funds to purchase $2.7 billion in city debt. The plan also created the Financial Control Board, which gave banks the power to veto city spending measures and labor contracts.

During the 11-day New York City transit worker walkout Ravitch served as strikebreaker in chief as Chairman of the Metropolitan Transit Authority. Before his stint as Lt. Governor, Ravitchâۥa wealthy real estate developerâۥsat on the Executive Committee of the AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust's Board of Trustees, a joint business venture of the trade unions.

The additional nine members of the task force are not politically distinct from Volcker and Ravitch. They include Nicholas F. Brady, former Secretary of the Treasury under Presidents Reagan and Bush; Peter Goldmark, the former budget director of New York State; Alice Rivlin, former Vice Chairman of the Federal Reserve under the Clinton Administration; and former Secretary of Labor, Treasury, and State, George P. Shultz.

The bipartisan character of the Task Force points to the vicious attacks being prepared against public employees and essential social service, regardless of whether President Obama or his Republican challenger Mitt Romney wins in November.

All Obama is trying to do is to scare the Hell out of the elderly to get their vote. Maybe Romney should counter with his own ridiculous lie, such as, "Obama plans to put a 50% tax on the cost of nursing home care and all you seniors will be out in the street"? But that's not Romney's style.

Romney is horrible but Obama probably is going to do pretty much the same thing after the election:

You may or may not be right, but I would much rather have someone that at least tries to give a @!$%# about people. With Romney being the poster boy for the rich that have sucked as much out of this country as they can... at the sacrifice of whoever and whatever gets in his way... I don't trust him to even care.

We all need to get a grip on a fundamental flaw in our system that is at the heart of 1) our inability to recover, 2) our inability to retire debt, and 3) the very cause of the widening class gaps and the fall of the middle class. The advent of extremely low tax rates and the ability to draw income at the top as capital gains is ruining this country... Repeat: OUR SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE IS OUR TOP TAX RATE.

We need to understand what we drive with tax rates.

Do you remember criticizing all these huge executive paydays given to corporate and bank executives? The tens or hundreds of millions? In bonuses, in salary, in retirement, in success, and in failure... it doesn't seem to matter. So what's going on? It's simple...

Low tax rates at the top encourage the rape of our economy. It encourages executives to take money out of the business instead of reinvesting. It encourages these huge paydays. It encourages the Romney types to sell-off companies and resources versus rebuilding a business. We did this. We caused this with our continued false demonization of our tax system and tax rates. We did this with our "trickle-down" voodoo economics. We were duped and continue to be duped.

So why do you think the rich have prospered during this recession while the middle class lost 40% of their net worth? Because the rich took money directly out of the economy to line their own pockets and to fill their precious off-shore accounts while the rest of us looked for our next job. And they did so because they were able to pay 15% on that money instead of rates like 40% or more that would actually discourage such wealth transfers.

Raise taxes at the top end to Clinton levels and you will see 1) less money pulled out of the economy, 2) more money reinvested in our businesses, 3) a faster economic recovery, and 3) a reasonable and logical addressing of virtually all of our deficit woes.

We've bought into the preaching of the rich for too long. The greedy have convinced their pawns (us) that they need extreme wealth to solve our economic woes. It's bull@!$%#. The currengt narrative is bull@!$%#.

It's about time we took our country back by putting a reasonable and supportive tax structure back in play. NOW.

Perspective time: The President was speaking to a retiree group in Florida. So you've got people receiving Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, pensions, social services, some foodstamps, etc. They are the ones getting the MOST benefits from the federal government now. Of course they are going to be a supportive crowd- they want the gravy train to keep moving for them. They paid into it, they want out of it. Simple enough. So they clearly are a good group for the President to speak to as they won't rock the boat and his wealth envy lectures sound just fine to them because they want their checks.

A bit more perspective? Ok. How about the President run on his accomplishments rather than tearing down his opponant. Logic states that you attack your opponant if you are: 1. Running for President, 2. Loosing, or 3. Trying to gain traction and press. If you already are President traditionally you run on your Presidential record and successes.

So what's going on here? The President can't run on his record because it's full of inconsistencies and unsupportive data. A few examples:

Jobs. The President endorsed massive use of American taxdollars for bailouts and stimulus, promising that unemployment wouldn't go above 8.2% if it was done. It was done and subsequently we've found out that billions upon billions were handed out for thousands of jobs (terrible investment strategy), billions were misappropriated, billions went to the President's donor companies, billions went to "green energy" companies whom were failing(many failed) because they were: 1. Bad investments and already turned down by the DOE under the Bush administration, 2. Their business strategies weren't viable, and 3. Their products weren't ready for prime time or had already been overtaken by international commerce. But the money kept going out and here we are- 8.2% unemployment, GDP has slowed down to under 2% growth, the President hasn't met with his "jobs council" in over six months- though he and Carney speak in public as though they are in constant contact. It's all talking points to the public and pandering to the voters already in his camp.

International policy. The President ran on peace and unity, but has had a clear record of not doing what he said he was going to do. Gitmo- open and expanding($$$$), Iraq- Still there, Afghanistan- Still there and almost 2,000 dead American soldiers(the Taliban is growing and women[as noted in a recent article] are worried because they are beginning to be pushed back into the dark ages- without rights, no education, more killing, and no chance at a good life), drone strikes in various nations and military operations in many others. Not exactly what was sold so well that he got the Nobel Peace Prize for his first two weeks in office. Then there is foreign policy: The President is endorsing the overthrow of Egypt and Libya- which isn't turning out to be good for the US and western countries(anti-US/western leadership), the women in those countries(returning to repressive policies towards women), regional stability(black market weapons sales and Egyps is fortifying Gaza against Israel), christians in those areas(Costic Christians are being forced out of business, murdered, and running out of the countries for their lives), the historical artifacts held within those countries (looted and threatening to destroy the pyramids because they are not Islamic). He has attempted to strong arm Israel to give back it's land to 1960's borders (which failed), condemned them for defending themselves as a nation, made their leaders quietly visit through the White House backdoor and without a state dinner while openly inviting those poised against Israel to the White house, the President never made a state visit to Israel, and has been silent when they've been attacked- yet is very open on the campaign about how he's helped Israel the most. It doesn't add up.

You can keep bringing up examples and data, but the basic facts are that the President must continue to run a "Chicago style" campaign- slandering Romney rather than making himself look good. He's got to play up the "injustices" and wealth envy rather then attempt to bring people together in "hope". He's got to divide people by groups- very sad for a sitting President.

"Yeah, stroke the senior vote while burying the next generation in exponetial debt."

That's so much BS. In 1945, the national debt was 120% of GDP. By 1980 the national debt was down to 30% of GDP. My parents left generation left my generation that debt and we paid for it. It's nothing new. Future generation always pay off the debt incurred by the previous generation.

And -- the national debt as a percentage of GDP went down under every president from Truman to Carter. From 1981 to 1998 under Reagan it went from 30% to over 60%.

    JoeNY

Perspective time: The President was speaking to a retiree group in Florida. So you've got people receiving Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, pensions, social services, some foodstamps, etc.

This crowd has seen the world as it should be. They've all worked their whole lives and are now watching their net worth drop in half while their effective income drops like a rock. Sure, they get Social Security and Medicare... but why do you think they trust Obama versus Romney? Even after "the record" you speak of? Because they know how we got here and who to trust going forward.

Maybe you need to get some perspective. Maybe those with valid life-long experiences recognize a soulless rich puppet when they see one. Maybe they recognize that the real reason we can't recover is that these rich f@#ks have taken everything they can for themselves and out of this economy... that they have one goal and it doesn't include the retirees or anyone "not them".

Maybe the retirees recognize some familiar brainless hate messages from before, during, and after World War II. Maybe they remember how we got out of that economic hell hole.

So before you diminish the retirees, as you and your party is famous for doing... before you assume you know what they think and why... maybe you should respect someone else for a change and listen to what they have to say.

I'm a retiree and I can tell you that retirees are THE FIRST IN LINE when it comes to understanding that something must be done with Social Security and Medicare... and THAT SOMETHING includes empathy and understanding... something sorely missing from today's GOP.

Now let's see if you get THAT perspective. I think not.

After yesterday's vote in the senate, it is perfectly clear which side is attempting to promote job growth and which side is attempting to block it. 42 Republican senators voted against forwarding a bill that would eliminate tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas and instead, reward companies that bring jobs back to America with a 20% tax break. It is astounding to me that we are even having this discussion, never mind that elected officials voted to block this measure. Republicans say it is all about jobs, but they vote very differently. I am disturbed by the behavior of republicans as they continually attempt to stall recovery at the expense of the middle class in hopes that if they delay progress long enough, perhaps they can regain power. Yesterday's vote should clear this up in any doubter's mind. Republicans are obstructionists. They have clearly stated their number one priority and it is not jobs, jobs, jobs. It is not the economic recovery. It is not the middle class. It is to harm America and blame Obama. How any real American would want to reward this behavior is beyond me. I simply do not understand how the GOP base finds this behavior acceptable. The bill was paid for and would have encouraged in-sourcing. I guess with Willard Romney's history of outsourcing and his refusal to discuss the matter (in fact he pretends it never happened), I should not be surprised. However, I had hoped that this bill just made too much sense to ignore it's merits. Kentucky McConnell stated that his party would not vote to forward the bill without amendments (riders) such as a repeal of the affordable care act. I am very disturbed that this behavior continues even as America is very much aware of past obstructionism. Please do not reward this behavior with your vote. My 5 year old would not get away with these tactics, elected officials should not either.

LMarcT- Believe it or not, I do agree with some of your post and I appreciate the "dialog"- something I think we need more of in these comments areas.

I agree with you that the current seniors did pay into the system and should receive the benefits they were promised. I agree that they worked hard to be where they are. I believe we, the younger generations, should support them as a community as well as continue to pay for their social services.

On Social Security, Mediacid, and Medicare (as well as the impending Obamacare)- I think they are heavily flawed. We need REAL social security reform- it's loosing a few years of coverage every year (down to 2034 if I recall correctly) and it costs 2+ people's social security taxes to cover one person's payments today! So, we've got to get real and tell our/my generation that it's not going to work out as it has been. Same thing with any other federal program that is running over budget/into deficit. We can't afford them, so it's time to change them or dump them. By dump them I'm not advocating throwing grandma from the cliff, I'm saying that we've got to set up an out so that it can be rebuilt for the next generations or an alternative.

    Thanks for the comment!

Unlike 0bama, Romney realizes that the president works for every citizen, not just select groups to pander to. Go home 0bama.

You ignorance shows vividly. Obama works for the 99% whereas Romney is beholden to and works for the other 1% of the folks who make more than 1/2 million in income every year and have net worth of more than $3mil. That's a fact.

    Reprinting from today's Bloomberg Businessweek,

"During a week long trip overseas trip that begins on July 25th, Romney will use his network of global business contacts to hit up wealthy donors between stops at the Olympics and meetings with foreign leaders. One July 26 executives from Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Credit Suisse, and Barclays will host a $2,500 a person reception for him in London. This will be followed by $25,000 a-plate dinner co-hosted by Dwight Poler, Managing Director of Bain Capital Europe. Access to the candidate requires couples to write $50,000 check or raise $100,000."

These are the people that Mitt Romney will bat for if he ever becomes the President. Amazing to note how many brainwashed dumb idiots are in this great country...

It's time to stop blaming everyone else and take charge. If I was hired to head up a company that had been supposedly run into the ground and after 4 years of no progress I was still blaming the "last guy" I would be fired. Pandering to whatever group he talks to is accomplishing nothing. And I agree, the office of President is not a joke, and not to be taken lightly. He is so full of himself that he actually is starting to believe what comes out of his mouth!

Don't give us that crap, if Republicans were worried for even one minute about the "next generation" then Republicans would make sure that the "next generation" has plenty of clean air, clean water, and a safe food supply.

Instead, Republicans are trying to REMOVE regulations that protect our clean air and water, and regulations that insure our food supply is safe, because Republicans are living for this moment in time ONLY, they want to make big money NOW, and Republicans don't give a crap about any "future generation" because Republicans know that they are NOT going to be here when it's time to deal with all the pollution that Republicans want to create!

This also explains why Republicans maintain a total "who cares" attitude about global warming and how burning fossil fuels is harming the planet. Republicans want their oil stocks to pay off and that's it! Worry about "right now" and let "tomorrow" take of its self, right Republican stock holders!

American Girl: "Republicans don't give a crap about any "future generation"....

Wrong: The Democrats bankrupt Social Security. It was supposed to be a self sustaining annuity until the Democrats and LBJ decided they needed some money so they drained the Trust Fund. They did the same to the Postal Service. Now they are both Bankrupt and future generations we (Democrats and Republicans) are trying desperately to put them back together but Obama and Harry Reid won't let anything get through until after the election. Obama is afraid to take any pre-election positions. He has had 110 fund raisers in the last 6 months but has not met with his Jobs Counsel once. Tell me American Girl how this benefits the future of our youth.

Where did you get the other stuff from. Obama has two solar energy firms down the tubes to the tune of a Billion+ because he, an ignoramus as far as business and economics is concerned, thought they could withstand the Chinese. He blocked the oil pipeline forcing continued use of coal into the next generation. He wants industry to decrease emissions from power plants but he has already squandered the money needed through his a@@hole stimulus spending (much of which went over seas or to Mexico) We can't eat the cost. We were supposed to build his electric cars in Delaware but they are now produced in Finland with our money. His lover boy, the CEO of GE who heads his committee on Job Creation, is out sourcing it airplane manufacturing to China and its Light bulbs to Mexico ( the light bulbs - I believe were made in Montgomery AL) -- the workers offered to reduce their wages so as to keep their jobs and the plant (a major industry to the community) but Obama's buddy said no, closed the plant and laid off the workers. We no longer make light bulbs in the US. How's that for national security. In time of war we can use candles. Good thinking.

You are closed minded. Our society relies on intelligent debate. You seem to be incapable of that as you lack the desire to inform yourself on issues and would rather follow the lemmings over the cliff.

When did the Republicans object to clean water and clean food? I'm interested to hear your source for that one. Don't Democrats piss in the swimming pool?

American Girl: Wrong: By the time Clinton took over, SS was being funded by the US Treasury. The idea of a self perpetuating annuity was long gone. Clinton increased "SS" taxes and brought money into the treasury which owed money to SS by virtue of issuing non-negotiable (worthless bonds) in exchange for SS's real dollars. SS was operating on cash basis, money in money out, (given to it by the treasury) the idea that there would be a growing annuity to support future generations was out the window. Most economists deem adding the funds received by the tax increase to "SS" and not the General Fund is nothing more than Voodoo economics. That is why virtually all commentators remove SS from debt equation. (notice I used "debt", not "deficit" - big difference).

Face the facts: With the SS Trust Fund gone, i.e. robbed by the Democrats, and the demographics steadily edging upward as the birth boomers retire, there is nothing to sustain SS except for taxes imposed upon future generations which will have to be regularly increased. That cannot go on forever and everyone but you seems to know it. SS is presently unsustainable due to the loss of the trust fund. The fact that Clinton had a cash accounting surplus, is nice, but it is the deficit that matters. That's where the Voodoo economics come in. Suppose you may have a mortgage payment of $700.00 a month but a total due of $60,000.00 on the mortgage. Under the "cash" method, when you get $800.00 in you are UP $100.00 you can say look, I saved a $100.00 this month. False: you only reduced you debt to the bank to $59,300.00. And when that other $1,000.00 is earmarked to utilities (i.e. SS and China) you are UP Nothing but actually down $300.00. You imply that Clinton "paid the mortgage down" (the deficit) he did not. By raising taxes he got us enough money to make our "minimum monthly payment". Do you think Obama can do that? You can take those hopes to your grave.

When you can't make the "minimum monthly payment " you walk down the street and declare Bankruptcy and that is where we are headed.

BTW: Why do you feel it necessary to put up a double response. Do you feel a need to get attention? And why no response to the other matters I raised -- tongue tied? I don't recall seeing you so mute before.

So tell me again about "future generations".

All with the agenda to make Obama a one term president.

It's the right wing philosophy smother the truth under a blanket of lies in order to confuse the voters. Republicans cannot win by telling the truth so they have to distort it then call the media liberal to try justifying their distortion. The FOX News anchor said it well once when he slipped and stated "We just tell our side of the story". Not the news as it happened..."our side of the story".

In other words, if a Republican slips up and says the wrong thing they try to justify his statement. If a Democrat would say the same thing they criticize him for it. That's not reporting...it's propaganda.

It is clearly not true, you should know that, Obama clearly knows that and any one who has followed the Ryan Plan knows that. Obama's dishonesty with seniors to get votes is despicable. (Scare the Hello out of them with lies) How about replying on that -- the plan has been on NBC and MSNBC numerous times -- how does FOX come into the equation?

BTW: I do watch FOX and also read MSNBC, if I didn't I would not be here. They produce a balance. As to NBC and its affiliates MSNBC, First Read etc why was the audio of Zimmerman cut to make him seem like he is a racist -- if I were he I would sue. What happened to Holder's response to the 5th circuit? I had to Goggle it to find that it only appeared in the Liberal media. Although, an important and a controversial legal document NBC, ABC CBS etc. never mentioned that it existed. Why because it showed Obama to be an idiot or a liar. Unlike you, Feisty and American Girl I check many of my facts before I publish them and do not rely on "bar room talk".

As to FOX, I agree that Hannity is an a@@ -- I don't watch him. The rest of FOX is good as a sounding board for the lies, cut tapes and deliberate misrepresentations put out by the Liberal Media. We never would have known the NBC cut the Zimmerman tape had FOX not reported it and played the entire uncut tape. Why NBC was intent, from day one, to alter facts to show Zimmerman a racist is beyond me. Don't get me wrong, I have no position on Zimmerman, I just don't like a news outlet like NBC falsifying evidence. You mentioned Beck. He's been gone for a long time - why bring up ancient history - and Limbaugh (who I have never listened to) has nothing to do with FOX. I believe you are misinformed and out of touch. A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.

Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage.

They want the kids to be wealthy but could care less that they die from an unliveable environment. Yes, you are right about the oil interests, can't run on their own so just do it under the table.

And yes it seems the design of SS was to be self supporting thanks to such a difficult to understand subject as compound interest on the SS Trust account. When the congress pulls the money out for "other" uses it can not earn interest (they won't pay it like we all have to do on a loan) leaving it to working taxpayers to support.

Speaking of congress, I would think they might be a bit worried about their own elections with a 9% approval rating. After all it is THEIR job to make LAWS the president can only sign or veto, where do these people come from?? Swallow: You can't make legislation if Harry Reid, in the Senate, and previously Nancy in the House, refuse to put it up for a vote. The founders never intended to give them veto power.

That is PRECISELY what the founders intended; they wanted a system of checks and balances, giving the most power to the directly-elected Congress.

The powers of congress is detailed in Article 1 of the constitution, they were given the most power. Article 2 is the Executive branch, and Article 3 is the Judicial...who didn't get the power of determining constitutionality until much later.

With respect to Congress, I think that 2-year term limits need to be replaced with 4-year term limits. In addition, we need to promote empowering 1 political party to have control of all 3 branches of Government as this provides for pure and unadulterated accountability.

I would much rather be able to point to one set of philosophies that were unencumbered and say, "Yes, this how we need to continue to govern" or "No, this does not work for our country."

Republicans had their chance for 6 years and they got us into 2 unfunded wars, gave tax breaks to the wealthy, and oversaw the debauchery on Wall St. that resulted in one of the greatest financial collapses in history.

By contrast, the Democrats had 2 years of control over the Executive and Legislative branches, and they implemented programs to prop-up the middle class.

Unfortunately for Democrats, and the American public, we weren't able to see those program fully implemented because of the insistence for tax-cuts to be included in those programs, and the constant obstructionism into the implementation of the ACA.

The reality is that Republicans are afraid that if the Democrats have the ability to be successful then America will be successful, and it will further prove that the Republicans have been on the wrong side of progress for the past 32 years.

I want the President to deal with reality. Obama originally campaigned as a fiscal conservative and made many statements as to how bad deficit spending is yet has administration have run up some of the largest deficits ever. The President promised to cut the deficit in half by the end of this first term. To keep his promise the 2012 federal deficit must not exceed 229.27 billion dollars yet his own White House is predicting that the President will miss the mark by more than a factor of 5. I want the President to explain to the American people how he is going to keep his promise regarding the deficit. I estimate that he additional trillion dollars that the President's administration is spending this year will end up costing the tax payers 9 trillion dollars before it is all repaid in 170 years. I want the President to present a detailed plan for the federal government to pay back all of the money that it has borrowed.

People can spot a phoney from a hundred miles away. Romney is as fake as a three dollar bill and everyone knows it. This is why the right keeps attacking because they know their man is lagging way behind in the charisma factor. It takes character to be able to connect with people in crowds or one on one. No doubt that Obama has Romney aced in that department by a long shot.

    Remember this tony.............

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a Sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. ...Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that 'the buck stops here'. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and Grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

BUSH arguably the worst president in American history It was on his watch that 9/11 took place: it was Bush who failed to kill or capture bin Laden: it was Bush who failed to destroy Al Qaida and the Taliban after 8 years of war: It was Bush who lied to the entire world about WMD in Iraq:

It was Bush who turned a record Federal surplus into a record deficit: It was Bush who created the conditions that have lead to the biggest economic crises in since the great depression: by lunching TWO UNFUNDED WARS and not only did he FAIL TO FUND THEM THE IDIOT CUT TAXES NOT ONCE BUT TWICE ESPECIALLY FOR THE RICH and YOU wonder why there is a DEFICIT?

Wow Witchking! Still blaming Bush for Obama's failures. That horse has been dead so long that continuing to beat on it just makes it stink worse.

Even if you were correct (you're not) Obama, faced with all that, still said "A year from now, I think, people are going to see that we are starting to make some progress. There's still going to be some pain out there. If I don't have this done in three years, then there's going to be a one term proposition."

If he was truly oblivious to the situation you describe, then he was totally incompetent. If he was aware of that supposed state of the economy, then he was lying.

Or, perhaps, the situation then just wasn't nearly as bad as the one he eventually created.

So you deny the fact that Bush did not pay for two wars which are still going on to this da,y the longest wars in US History. You deny that Bush invaded a country that wasn’t a threat, ran up trillions of dollars in debt, doesn’t pay for the wars but cuts taxes for the rich not once but twice. You deny that Bush took one of the biggest government surpluses in history and turned it into a deficit, You deny the fact that Bush deregulated the banking Industry and Wall Street so they were able to run the economy into the ditch

This is what you are denying

The deficit is totally the Conservative’s failures.

First, while Bush started the two wars, it was Congress that approved them AND also approved subsequent funding for those wars through the remainder of the Bush presidency AND Obama presidency. As for the tax cut, last I remember it was Obama that extended that same tax cut. And lastly, this supposed surplus was nothing more than just a projection at the time Clinton left office...there was NO surplus!! Geez...if you are going to start spouting talking points at least back them up with real facts...

I have seen some posts today that have said President Obama hasn't done a good job fixing the economy. Do the people writing these things have collective amnesia? Look back and remember the MOUNTAIN of @!$%# the last Republican administration left the country buried in. Then take a long look at the Republican/Tea Party congress that has done nothing but obstruct, obstruct, obstruct and vote on anti abortion legislation.

It takes ALL branches of government working together to fix a mess like the one Bush left behind. All the Tea Party congress can do is play politics no matter how much it hurt the country. Lets not forget this congress hasn't even tried to pass one piece of legislation to create jobs.......... In other words they have done NOTHING.

Before anybody blames President Obama for ALL the countries Ills perhaps they should look at the big picture first.... It's almost like the real Republican Party has died and I don't even recognise the creature that has taken it's place......... Whatever it is it sure wasn't made in America.

GCCAL, You can blame the president but it's actually the elected officials in congress who are not doing their job and standing in the way of getting this country back on the right track. For the past 3 1/2 years they have done nothing but obstruct and hinder the president all the while he STILL tried to work with them and eventually getting his own party to back away from him for going outside the "traditional" democratic mode. People can say that he has failed in this regard but it if you look at it from the other side, it took a lot of guts to go against his own party for "compromise" against those that were unwilling and decided to put party first(and the wealthy) over the country.

Oh and that BS about the raising the debt ceiling, it was a common thing and not even discussed or debated until Obama took office.

JK1963 - If there was not a "surplus" then why did President Bush answer the infamous question with "I'm going to spend it" when asked what he will do with the surplus that was genereated. He didn't say pay down the national debt which was the CORRECT ANSWER. So you rebuttal about "talking points" is mute.....

Pjam09 - The only real con in this race is Romney. When I heard his wife say that "We have provided all the information you people need and we are not going to put out anything more than we already have" says a lot.

You Republicans have a very short memory. From 1976 to 1992 you whined and cried, moan and groaned and complained and complained more and bitched, carried on and on and blamed President Carter of everything wrong in the entire universe. Then from 1992 to 2008 you whined and cried, moan and groaned and complained and complained more and bitched, carried on and on and blamed President Clinton for everything that was wrong in the entire universe. So – using the standard you set – the left has another 29 years to blame Bush for everything just to pull even with you.

It's so hard not to feel sad about the lost, "Fox," generations. This comment above is the nervous system of the conservative agenda, but they blame it on democrats. They can only be getting that from listening to a constant string of lies and propaganda, because if they had any critical thinking skills, all they would have to do is a fear/hope analysis on the speeches to figure out who is trying to scare people.

Florida, for instance, has a very special problem. Lot's of old people. Rick Scott doesn't want to extend medicaid. That has an impact on old people, because medicaid is the only thing that pays for nursing homes. Period. Medicare has nothing to do with this at all, so if Romney urges states to be strong and not implement the medicaid expansions, paying for nursing homes falls to the elderly and their families, if they even care. That's a simple fact. If I was old, I'd be doing everything I could think of to move north.

Sometimes, there really are things to fear, and the republicans are putting them all together in one agenda.

Now that I read you comment again, sounds like you are walking back you accusation of no surplus(maybe I triggered you memory or perhaps you didn't think anyone would remember that statement) which is why you put in that last comment to try and save your point. ROFLMAO Just what did the Bush campaign do in 2004? They used scare tactics to keep people in fear that the Democrats were weak on terrorism. Even after Obama got elected they still kept up the scare tactics until Obama started killing off the top members of the Al Qaeda. Since the terrorist scare tactics won't work anymore they are trying to use the economic scare tactics which didn't concern them while Bush was in office spending money like a drunken sailor. I very big chunk of the deficit is used to pay interest for Bush borrowed money wasted in Iraq.

Remember people....the economic collapse happen as a result of Republican policies and lax controls of SEC/banking while Bush was in office. Romney has the same economic philosophy which would completely ruin this country if implemented. Think before you vote and don't listen to the lies about how Obama has ruined this country. It was worse before he took office than it is now and would really get worse yet under Romney.

Romney is not the answer to our economic problems....Romney and people like him are the problem.

I agree: it's the ecomony, stupid! What doesn't Oblameo get about this one simple statement? If the economy is fixed, employment goes up. If employment goes up, tax revenues (of all kinds at all levels) go up. If tax revenues go up, our country comes closer to closing the deficit gap at all levels. If the deficit gap is closed, we might be able to do something about the $6 trillion dollars of additional debt he buried our children and grandchildren under in less than four years.

If Oblameo is an example of what a genius understands, God deliver us all from 4 more years of incredible stupidity that has a lack of common sense. We could do with a few less "geniuses" and a president who understands the practical aspects of our world-wide economy.

Obama has to brush off questions in Florida. First he screwed them over by his gross mismanagement of the Gulf oil spill; then he provided weapons to the drug cartels who represent a serious danger to the citizens of the state; and then he hides behind executive privilege to cover up his role in that fiasco.

Romney has to brush off questions everyplace he goes. He speaks only in glittering generalities and offers NO specifics on anything. His shtick is -- I know how to run a business so I know how to run a nation. Well -- Hoover know how to run a business. Bush know how to run a business.

Lets hear about Obama's plans (not the 2008 BS -- that he never followed thru with). Let' hear something meaningful that he really intends to do.

Why do you think that Obama can run a business? He's never had one.

Look at what Romney did for the Olympics - not bad, wouldn't you agree. I like to see a "Community Organizer" do what Romney did.

Because Obama's jobs czar is doing just fine outsourcing more then half of his 300K employee's and paying no federal taxes. So the message from Jeffery Immelt to Obama is the private sector is doing just fine.

Interesting that all of the major conservative columnists have turned on Romney and have told him to release the tax returns. Romney today said again that he will not release any additional returns.

When Romney was hoping to be considered as McCain's running mate, Romney delivered 23 years of tax returns to McCain for his staff's review. The other day when asked if Romney should release more tax returns, McCain said no he absolutely should not. Makes one wonder what McCain's staff found, huh?

To pjam09: If you were running for the President of the United States and you told the Wall Street Journal (or any newspaper) that tax returns didn't mean anything, how far do you think that would go? I'm talking about you pjam. Romney says that Sen. John McCain only released two years of his tax returns so that is what I'm going do. How did that work for McCain? And we all knew what he was doing the last 20 years.

There is a long history of presidents releasing tax returns, while they are in office. But before they take office, not so much. This is a liberal snipe hunt, since there are not successes for Obama to mount a campaign.

These cons are funny. Romney doesn't have to release his tax return but President Obama has to release his birth certificate, his college transcripts, his college admission status, his mortgage papers, his travel records, --- the list goes on and on.

But then the cons are in a tough situation. They have no ideas, no solutions, no answers to real problems so they talk about birth certificates and college transcript.

. society stagnates when independent productive achievers are socially demonized and even punished for their accomplishments... Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin repudiated his U.S. citizenship right before Facebook's much anticipated IPO this month. While Saverin had already been living in Singapore, dropping his U.S. citizenship allowed him to escape millions of dollars in capital gains taxes that his higher-valued Facebook shares would eventually trigger.

The month before Obama was sworn into office, the American economy lost 790,000 jobs - and that is not a typo. It is hard to imagine just how close we all were to the abyss. June's new hires was smaller than anyone would like but it was still a positive number and there have been positive new job numbers for the past 25 consecutive months.

It would be interesting to hear Romney offer some of his specific thoughts as how he would increase employment. And while he's at it, can't wait to hear how his tax cuts are going to reduce the deficit without spending cuts (which he has not shared with us yet either.) He did come out and say that he thought Rep. Ryan's budget was 'marvelous' including the privatizing of Medicare and proving vouchers for Americans to negotiate health insurance with the health insurance industry. That will be like negotiating gas prices with Exxon!

      Bruce -

As long the economy sputters along, you are not going to hear any specifics from Romney. His campaign knows that would be the kiss of death for his candidacy.

This is all going to come down to the debates. There is so much noise going on right now. We'll see how Presidential Mitt looks. He will have to be more specific there on a number of issues. That is, unless he plans to do a "Palin" and refuse to directly answer questions.

I think the debates will decide the election.

      More like LIES ARE LIES:

Avg. Annual Budget Deficit Under: Bush -2.0% Obama -9.5%

This is because Bush didn't include the cost of TWO UNFUNDED WARS in the deficit. Obama stopped the Republican/Bush lie to the American taxpayer and included the cost of those wars. Also the average for Bush is for 8 years and for Obama 3 years. The more years the lower the average so Bush was even worse if you take his last 3 years and include the deficit lie.

Avg. Annual Increase in Federal Debt($trillions): Bush $0.5 Obama $1.8

Also the average for Bush is for 8 years and for Obama 3 years. The more years the lower the average so Bush was even worse if you take his last 3 years.

Avg. Monthly Unemployment Rate: Bush 5.3% Obama 9.5%

Also the average for Bush is for 8 years and for Obama 3 years. The more years the lower the average so Bush was even worse if you take his last 3 years.

Total Employment Gains (in millions): Bush 5.7 Obama (3.5) yes, negative under Obama

Another lie especially when you consider Bush has the lowest job creation of any president. Also the average for Bush is for 8 years and for Obama 3 years. The more years the lower the average so Bush was even worse if you take his last 3 years.

Avg. Annualized Housing Starts: Bush 1655.2 Obama 568.2

Also the average for Bush is for 8 years and for Obama 3 years. The more years the lower the average so Bush was even worse if you take his last 3 years.

Avg. Annualized Quarterly GDP Growth: Bush 1.8% Obama 1.5%

Also the average for Bush is for 8 years and for Obama 3 years. The more years the lower the average so Bush was even worse if you take his last 3 years.

Avg. Annual Food Stamp Participation (in millions): Bush 22.7 Obama 37.0

Also the average for Bush is for 8 years and for Obama 3 years. The more years the lower the average so Bush was even worse if you take his last 3 years.

You have to compare the last three years of Bush to the first 3 of Obama and you will find Bush is far, far worse on the stats but conservatives like to lie and use an average of of 8 years and compare it to an average of 3. Any 8th grade student of math knows that if you have bigger number you lower the average by dividing by a larger number which is what was done to get these stats.

You have to compare the last three years of Bush to the first 3 of Obama

Or, you could take the first three years of Bush versus the first three years of Obama - that would be more apples to apples, I think.

      Or, you could take the first and third year of Bush, and the second and third year of Obama;

Or this past year of Obama divide by four and multiply by 3 versus the last year of Bush's first term divided by four and multiply by 8.

You can do almost any thing to come up with the numbers you're looking for. I'm sure the 12 million unemployed, the 50 million on disability, and the 37 million on food stamps would appreciate all that arithmetic.....

Republicans are so blinded by what is transpiring, that there is no hope for a GREATER AMERICA!! Even as the rest of the country was enjoying a brightening economy, during Romney's term Massachusetts plummeted to 47th out of 50 states in job creation; manufacturing jobs declined at twice the national average; and for the first time since 1995, its unemployment rate was above the national average.
Long-term debt ballooned by more than $2.6 billion -- leaving the people of Massachusetts with the highest per capita debt of any state in the nation. State spending increased every single year, and Romney raised taxes and fees by $750 million per year -- leading to a higher state and local tax burden of $1,200 for every Bay Stater. Over his term, fees at public colleges skyrocketed by 63 percent, and during his first year, K-12 schools saw the second-largest percentage cuts, per student, in the nation.

All that in just four years!!!!!

Mitt Romney promised more jobs, less debt, and smaller government for Massachusetts based solely on his experience as a corporate buyout specialist. Turns out that being good at maximizing profits for yourself and your investors, but leaving companies bankrupt and workers without jobs, doesn't exactly prepare you to lead a state -- or a country.

Yet Romney's out there making the same empty promises all over again. And we've got to make sure no one buys it this time.

The bottom line? Romney Economics didn't work for Massachusetts then, and it won't work for America now.

Boehner, R-Ohio, continues to reject higher tax rates, which Democrats demand from the wealthy. The deficit is a mysterious number that is MEANINGLESS!!! It will continue and the President WHOEVER!!! Cannot fix the problem without revenue!!!!

If you buy a product you have to pay for it!!!! REVENUE!!!!!!

Romney is like shopping at no-haggle auto dealerships. You know you will get screwed!! But I would like to know when so I can prepare!!!!

The Republican Party is at war with President Obama!!

Their goal "To make President Obama a one term President!!!!"

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is just another Republican governor same as Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin.!!!! who are at war with the middle class worker!!! Take!! Take!!! Take!!!

This is for Republicans!!! Ryan’s proposal “Don’t get sick!! If you get sick!!! Die quickly!!

Clinton said about Ryan’s proposal in his on-stage remarks to the Peterson event: “I just think his Medicare proposal is, on the merits, wrong” and would lead to those on Medicare becoming “poorer” or older people would use less medical care, “get sicker and die quicker.”

The latest Democratic complaint came after House Speaker John Boehner said Tuesday that when Congress raises the nation's borrowing cap in early 2013, he will again insist on big spending cuts to offset the increase. Boehner, R-Ohio, continues to reject higher tax rates, which Democrats demand from the wealthy.

Norquist, a registered lobbyist, heads the anti-tax group Americans for Tax Reform, which has enlisted almost every Republican member of Congress to sign a pledge against raising taxes. “Don’t raise taxes on the rich they make JOBS!! In China, Mexico, anywhere but America”!!!!!!

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney has signed the pledge. So did nine of the 10 initial Republican presidential candidates.

I hope Republicans will like SMALLER GOVERNMENT!!!!!!!!

Uhhhh . . . no. Revenue is not the problem. Spending is the problem. You can raise taxes as high as you want, and you won't be able to pay for the kind of spending Obama's done. Don't you realize that there's only so much money out there? The top 25% of wage earners in this country currently pay 83% of our total tax load. Do you know what would happen if you taxed EVERY SINGLE PERSON who made more than 250K with a 100% tax rate? You wouldn't even have the money to pay for the interest on our debt for a year. So what's the solution? Higher taxes on the rich? Noooo . . . you can't raise taxes higher than 100%.

I've got to head out for the night, folks. Talk to you all tomorrow night.

          Oh, ok. Got some proof?

Before you grab some piece of crap from National Review, FOX News, Daily Caller or Mitt Romney's stump speeches, go and see what the CBO says.

          Here's a sample:

"Meanwhile, the bottom line about Obamacare really hasn’t changed. Notwithstanding these latest adjustments, CBO still thinks it will mean about 30 million additional people get insurance, that insurance will become more secure for those who have it, that the law will more than pay for itself in the first ten years, and that, over the long run, the law will reduce the deficit."

Those who care, not the barroom talkers, should look and the Obama/GE relationship. Very interesting GE's CEO chairs Obama's commission on job creation but is outsourcing it airplane manufacturing, light bulbs and God knows what else. A bit of hypocrisy wouldn't you think? And rather un-American.

Romney has whatever position the highest bidder dictates. In Massachusetts it was true, last week it was true, and God help us whoever lines his pockets next week... Romney's the ultimate Decepticon, twice as mechanical, and starring in his own movie, a privately funded production: "Transformers 4: Offshore and Way Out There".

Actually, Obama's the one that alters stances based on the crowd. When he needs to appeal to Democrats, he announces his opposition of drilling. When he needs to appeal to Republicans, he holds a photo-op at the Keystone pipeline. When he wants to appeal to Democrats, he talks about the dangers of mercury emissions from auto's. When he takes over GM and finds himself on the wrong end of the over-regulation, he scraps his prior statements and says that the emissions aren't that important. When he wants to appeal to Democrats, he says he's against big bonuses. But when a Democrat gets a big bonus, like the 19 million dollar bonus for the CEO of JP Morgan, he's ok with it. I could go on, but you get the point.

Hey Cubs Fan -- have you ever listened to Romney?? Romney alters stances based on the crowd, the time of day, the phase of the moon, the season of the year. He's been pro choice, pro life, pro gun control, against gun control, for government health care, against government health care, for increasing taxes, against increasing taxes --- you name it he's been for/against/for/against. for/for/ against/against it. Hey -- look up what his fellow republicans said about him in the primaries.

We can be sure that anything on Romney's tax returns will be legal since he and his CPA know that they will be scrutinized by the ferrets at the IRS. We can't say the same for the Fast and Furious documents that Obama is hiding by Executive Privilege.

Apparently the documents relating to Fast and Furious are so damning to Obama that if they come to light he would not only lose the election, but might also be sent to prison.

How do you know what is or is not legal with Romney's tax returns? You trust the IRS? They may very well be "legal". The question is does the American people want a President that "hides" his past?

Really, I can't believe you just said that "a president that hides his past" Lets talk about President Obama. He always talks about how poor he was, so I would be really interested to know how he paid for college, how did he pay for his "world tour"? Harvard, and Columbia are both extremely expensive schools, how were those paid for? George Bush released his college transcripts, why won't Obama release his? He always talks about how brilliant he is, why won't he prove it? I don't care if he got into college by affirmative action laws, good for him if he did. That doesn't matter. Why can' t we read any of his college papers? How come we never ever hear from any of his friends? The only friends we know about are Tony Rezko, William Ayers and his wife, all of which are convicted felons or domestic terrorists. Lets not talking about Romney hiding his past, when Obama has done EXACTLY the same thing.

Obama is a hypocrite who will say or do anything to get a vote regardless. I am having a really difficult time believing seniors or anyone else believes Obama is trying to get re-elected to help the "people". He didn't do anything the first 4 years, what makes anyone think he will do anything different? Take from the American taxpayer and give to the shirkers who can work but find it more profitable and convenient not to work. Pander to foreign nations by kissing their butts, generally making the USA look like a nation of bumbling idiots who needs a weak kneed President to apologize for them. We, the AMERICAN CITIZENRY, need to let Obama know that we stand for our principles and don't need anyone apologizing to a foreign nation on our behalf.

If Obama is re-elected, I hope and pray all of you misguided individuals who voted for him in Nov 2012 live long enough to reap what he will pile on you.

President Obama is the only President who has proven he can bring our economy back from the Republican disaster! No one else has done it!

Romney, today, is so bereft of authentic criticism of our President, that he had to take his lead from the wackos at FOX NEWS, who openly claim Obama doesn't think a business could succeed on its own merit. What FOX NEWS didn't include was the rest of the statement that President Obama said!

President Obama said, "America didn't get here without someone building the roads and highways". "We didn't get here without the electrical grid". President Obama was not referring to the "business man", who, by the grace of our nation, was able to thrive because of it.

But, if you fact check Mitt Romney's website, you will see that every single attack on Obama is foundationless. It is a work of fiction. Romney is batting one thousand, except in the minds of the people that are so far out they can't find the edge of the ocean!

In a Romney world, we can solve our budget problems by firing the entire workforce of the airline industry! We all know that all the airlines need are quality pilots to fly the planes! We don't need no "stinkin' airports!" Fire the stewardesses, too. Ticket takers! Baggage handlers. Security personnel. Air traffic controllers! All gone, economy righted! Hell, he can even toss in a big break for the rich, it is so easy!

Romney is quite a jewel! He sent his wife out to defend his refusal to show the American public his tax reports that could clear up when he actually left Bain Capital. The tax filings could explain whether or not he paid taxes every year, or scammed the system. We, the people, who would elect him, do have a right to know if a Presidential candidate can be trusted by what his history tells us, don't we? Anna Romney exclaimed, All "you people" have gotten all you are going to get!

Aren't we just vetting him? Or is it ok for Mitt Romney to show 23 years of tax information to the Republicans, who picked Sarah Palin instead, while refusing to accommodate us with the same information he willingly gave to John McCain?

This can not stand. Between his lies, his off-shored funds, hidden in nine countries that we know of so far, can we really trust Mitt Romney?

And now you're whining that Democrats took money out of the very program most Republicans opposed from the get go??? Now that is rich pal.

FYI, NO COVERAGE WILL BE LOST. Changes were made to Medicare to make it more efficient as well as the fact that the AHA picks up any slack.

So nice to know that you're concerned with a such a left wing, Commie program like this. I find it very heart warming.

                              Fair enough I think.

Trust me, they harassed us to the brink over what started a 300 dollar err & we ended paying over 10,000 dollars couldn't even imagine the length the IRS would go through to collect from multi -millionaires.

Beside at least we know Mr. Romney is a born US citizen & doesn't need to acquire illegal documentation.
