BOWLING GREEN, OH -- Mitt Romney looked to get back on his economic message and to put President Obama on the defensive today, lashing out at the administration for not convening a meeting of his jobs council in more than six months.

Evan Vucci / AP
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney gestures during a campaign stop on July 18 in Bowling Green, Ohio.
Romney also criticized the president for what he claimed was Obama's attempts to "denigrate and diminish" individual success.
"In the last six months, [Obama] has held 100 fundraisers and guess how many meetings he has had with his jobs council. None. Zero," Romney said. "Zero in the last six months, so it makes it very clear where his priorities are. His priority is not creating jobs for the American people. His priority is trying to keep his own job and that's why he is going to lose it."
The Obama campaign did not refute Romney's claim directly, but said the president has offered a jobs plan which "incorporates ideas from the Jobs Council," a non-partisan group of business leaders whose stated mission is to provide "non-partisan advice to the President on continuing to strengthen the Nation's economy."
The Romney campaign does not divulge it's complete fundraising schedule, making a direct fundraising comparison impossible.
Romney also hammered the president -- for a second-straight day -- over the president's comments Friday in which the president said (in part of a larger argument about the importance of education and infrastructure to the success of business): “If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.”
"Barack Obama's attempt to denigrate and diminish the achievement of the individual, diminishes us all," Romney said. "We all, of course, recognize the power of all of us working together. We're a united nation. He divides us. He tries to divide America, tear America apart. He tries to diminish those who have been successful in one walk of life or another. It's simply wrong."
Romney also fed the vice-presidential rumor mill today, telling a questioner here that he has not yet made a vice presidential selection, but identifying one key characteristic of his eventual pick.
"I can assure you that even though I have not chosen the person who will be my vice president, that person will be a conservative. They will believe in conservative principles," Romney said in response to the first question at today's town hall.
As is often the case at town hall events like this one, the crowd itself became part of the story today, when one questioner referred to President Obama as a "monster" in her question.
"That’s not a term I would use," Romney told the woman.
Romney also engaged in a bit of audience participation here today, urging business owners to stand up and be applauded for creating jobs, and commenting on signs that dotted the venue here, painted with slogans like "I built my own business."
"These are fun," Romney said, reading from the signs. "‘I created my business, not the government.’ These are fun. These are fun signs here. You guys in back can’t see them. But those who made those signs, thank you for reminding us who it is in America that creates jobs.”
In interviews with attendees here it became apparent that "those who made those signs," were campaign volunteers who passed them out to attendees who identified themselves as business owners when they arrived at the event.
If the signs weren't a reflection of true anger at the president, the voices of some business owners in the audience afterwards were.
"You put a dagger through every businessman's heart when you say what [President Obama] did," said Wayne Michaels, a retired orthodontist who proudly held one of the Romney campaign's signs. "That got my blood boiling."

LOL; Everything about R-money is fake; his signs, his supporters who really don't like him; but are anti- Obama, his retroactive time at Bain, and his nose.

Obama/Biden2012
a swing and a miss...
We know the President is available and in touch with members of his economic team all the time - unlike Mr. Romney said he was as Bain's CEO.
Over this past year, the bi-partisan Jobs Council identified 14 job creating high-priority infrastructure projects for rapid review.
Of those fourteen, four projects are already underway.
Yeah,...because the last time they met, they came up with a pretty great piece of legislation that Republicans voted DOWN in the House and filibustered in the Senate.
Seems pointless to meet when the opposition agenda is OBSTRUCT. But, hey, I'm not a real "Olive Branch" kind of person.
I am much more of a "Screw me once shame on you, Screw me twice, shame on me!" gal.
I am sure an (R) will come along and butcher that phrase soon enough.
What'd NitMitt do this time? Slap "O" with one of his Flip-Flops? LOL!
Obama/Biden 2012
Gotta love the libby hypocrites:
Rep. Nancy Pelosi was emphatic. Mitt Romney’s refusal to release more than two years of his personal tax returns, she said, makes him unfit to win confirmation as a member of the president’s Cabinet, let alone to hold the high office himself.
Sen. Harry Reid went farther: Romney’s refusal to make public more of his tax records makes him unfit to be a dogcatcher.
They do not, however, think that standard of transparency should apply to them. The two Democratic leaders of the Senate and the House of Representatives are among hundreds of senators and representatives from both parties who refused to release their tax records.

Thank you Backhouse,
But as you know facts mean nothing to Romney and his denizens; just more LIES.
"In the last six months, [Obama] has held 100 fundraisers and guess how many meetings he has had with his jobs council. None. Zero," Romney said.
What's the point. Anything that's bought up regarding jobs, is shot down by the Tea-Bag Congress anyway!
Bev,
No secret by now, that Mitt Romney is a compulsive liar.

Clara, I know exactly what you mean; neither am I.
But, the Chicago team is kicking Mitt's butt. That's the fiery Obama I know when he wants to take his gloves off. Yup, that's the Chicago way.

The only thing Willard is swinging is his limp, little, 'man-hood' between his legs!
It was funny watching Willard's nose grow by the minute & his all white audience ignoring it...
Fisty, why are you such a racist?
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2012/07/18/carney_on_why_jobs_council_hasnt_met_in_six_months_obama_has_a_lot_on_his_plate.html
Seems the President's spokesman thinks it's because the President is too busy not because of congress.
If Jindal is named VP candidate I hope in the debate with Biden he calls him a racist for his 7/11 comment.
It was funny watching Willard's nose grow by the minute
Was it his lying that made that happen, or the Viagra? I mean they don't call him "Dick-head" for nothing...
I wasn't aware that the size of the manhood was a prerequisit for running for President! Thank you for clairifying this for me. I was under the impression that size was only a requirement for porn movies.
I guess then that you will be voting for that dic$ in the WH then.

That's because his all white audience only sees the Black Man in the White house.
You betcha Bev!
Their hatred drives them bat @!$%# crazy... as demonstrated here daily!
At what point does a candidate become so pathetic that he looks at the group in this photo as a "crowd?" I've seen more people at my gym - during the off hours.
Romney is such a loser it's amazing the Republicans can actually "tout" him as their candidate. When will this nightmare end?

Jindal, are you kidding? I can think of a better label like the "Cat in the Hat".
Somebody tell me what businesses are holding up those signs, cause this customer will go elsewhere.
GT, check out #1.19 & 1.20 if you want examples of what redsoxrube is talking about. Technically, they aren't racist by Webster's definition, but they are very general and don't allow for the possibility that the "all white audience" doesn't like Obama because he is a democrat. Only a racist democrat would be there over the President's color.
Oh Bev, most of us all know he doesn't have a set of ba!!s. Moooochelle has a larger pair.
I've known several dentists who were severely conservative, you might say. No wonder that retired orthodontist got his blood boiling over a piece of red meat BS.
Romney should be ashamed, I mean he really should be.
Willard is nothing more than a lying piece of POOP.
Actually - just a quick look at the headline and it looks like Romney is coming out! Chose a rather strange time to do it and frankly it's his business but.....
Apparently I missed the first "outing."
retiredceo, Michelle Obama is one of the most stylish and informative First Ladies in a VERY long time. She has a platform that is timely for this day and age. For you to insult her, totally uncalled for. Definitely speaks to the fact that you have NO character!
It takes a village.... to do everything: community, team work, family...etc.
so, Mitt the UnFitt has not only flunked English 101, but also proved that GOP is not a party of family values and time-tested communal traditions.
How old are you? My guess is a mental age of 6 (or lower).
retiredceo - you were only ceo of the gutter. We have a beautiful, elegant, stylish, intelligent and classy First Lady who has worked hard for military families and children.
Alan - she was being nice and not saying a lying piece of sh*t! Get it Now?
God your Republicans are just total morons!
Obama/Biden 2012
again, now given that Mitt has flunked English 101, then the question has come down to this:
Why all GOP has for President is stuPig rich kid ? -
Mitt Romney, a stuPig rich kid
George W. Bush - the Child that was -Left-Behind
....etc....etc.
A new Obama campaign ad asks: “What is Mitt Romney hiding?” Mitt will get back to you as soon as O releases (for starters): 1) his college transcripts 2) his IL Senate papers 3) his medical records & 4) “Fast & Furious” documents now sealed by executive privilege. O’s folks (and the media) sure are obsessed with Bain Capital. Good thing their guy is so clean. Well, except for that drug use thing. And those Ayers, Dohrn & Wright connections. And that sweetheart Rezko land deal. And contacting Blago about a Valerie Jarrett Senate appointment. And the billions in green tech “stimulus” dollars awarded to O campaign contributors. Yep, the President is as clean as a whistle! Must be, just ask the media
Yeah, I was going to let retiredreregceo slide on the "impression" process about size; but after that uncalled for crack at the First Lady,...
the gloves are off.
You said, "... I was under the impression that size was only a requirement for porn movies."
Your wife has been very generous in her dealings with you to have you get all the way to retirement believing THAT!
Rasmussen poll showed today that 83% of Americans favor work requirements for welfare recipients. So, last week with an executive order -- bypassing Congress AGAIN -- the welfare reform under President Clinton was gutted. Here is a list of what has been added to that list which qualifies as work:
1. Bed rest
2. Personal care activities
3. Massage
4. Exercise
5. Journaling
6. Motivational reading
7. Smoking cessation
8. Weight loss promotion
9. Participating in parent teacher meetings
10. Helping a friend or relative with household tasks and errands. . . .
With unemployment remaining stuck over 8 percent, most Americans would not consider bed rest, smoking cessation classes and journaling as “work.”
You can’t make this stuff up and it is up to us to stop this and take back America on November 6.
You haven't lost your magic touch... GF! lmao!
You will, of course, ben, be asking Mittens for the same, college transcripts, tax returns, and be asking Bush about Fast and Furious, a made up strawman by the right wing nutjobs.
Ben- 636050 - whatever is the classification beyond moronic - that's where you fit.
The college transcripts - NEVER been required for Presidential candidate - unlike the taxes
The Illinois Senate records - Those are public knowledge - if you can't find them - that's your bad!
His medical records - you DO know every President gets an annual physical which is released as "healthy" or cites specific problems. Our President is no different.
The filth that you personify is a Republican trait and you carry it well. You show a total lack of integrity and character. So, you're the perfect Republican. You take gutter trash to a whole lower level.
Obama/Biden 2012 to keep class in the White House!
Romney's sugar daddy seems to be under investigation by Las Vegas Gaming Commission.... Mob money connections in Macau .. What is China buying from ROMNEY ?
LOL Clara! That's funny!
Mitt the Rich StuPig Kid always has more on (than others), this moron doesn't understand how government policy can promote business, then he doesn't deserve to be president.
Job1 said: Willard is nothing more than a lying piece of POOP.
How old are you Job1? Have you crossed the 10 year old barrier yet?
Hey Ben - What about businesses that get help from government?
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-06-06/romney-critical-of-government-aid-that-helped-bain-profit.html
Seeking -- again you resort to name calling and impugning someone's integrity you don't even know. We have differing opinions and I just believe yours are wrong. I am not saying anything bad about you as a person or your character although spouting off at individuals -- It's not a very attractive trait.
As to your comparisons, you seem to indicate that certain records "have never been required." You are entirely correct. They aren't required but neither are any more than two years of tax returns required in running for President. What other candidates do and chose to do above and beyond the requirements of the law are their choice and that should be respected.
Mitt and Obama, guess the gloves are off now. When they start kicking each other in the manhood, which has apparently become a measuring stick for competency, I guess the last one standing (or at least not crouched over) will be Dr. Jill Stein.

Romney back on his message ... about...'individual success'?
Does Mitt think that he is getting ready for an interview for another 'CEO' job? Being president is about 'collective success,' which Mitt is UnFitt for and doesn't understand.

Hi, Beverly...
to Hannitize ... is to sanitize ... kind of right-wing brain-washing... you know George Romney's cup of tea (George lost his chance running for President in 1968 when he claimed US soldiers were brainwashed to fight in Vietnam).
George Romney's cup of tea? Do you mean ...George is the founding tea potty member?
Right now we are actually paying companies to ship jobs overseas, by giving companies tax write-offs for expenses to move operations overseas. The president talks about ending those tax credits, and instead rewarding companies for staying in the US, and for moving operations back to the US.
The Bring Jobs Home Act is being voted on tomorrow (Thrusday) -- Contact you senators. Right now the buzz is that the Teapublicans plan to block this bill, like all the other bills to create jobs.
Also, to the media, ask Romney where HE stands on the Bring Jobs Home Act? Oh, and where his tax returns are too. I couldn't even read all his regurgitated nonsense above -- It's like blah, blah, blah, I won't release my tax returns, blah blah to me.
Romney -- He's not in it for you.
Golly gang - we got Mitt, who according so some [albeit uniformed] is a FELON, and of course who you all regard as just not up to par with Obama.
And yet, per the CBS/NY Times poll, it's Mitt 47, Obama 46.
How terribly horribly disasterous for a sitting incumbent to be tied with such a gianormous idoit felon in mid July. Astounding. Heck, even Carter was doing better. A lot better, and we all know how that turned out.
Really does say a thing or two about Obama, eh?
Oh and Mickey - how are those felony charges coming along?
I must have missed the story about the particulars of the charges - you know, who filed, the allegations, the potential sentence, etc.
Can you hook a brother up with that knowledge Mickey?
Ah, nevermind, time to go home. 5:15pm and I'm grilling steaks by the pool. Getting hot out here. Gonna hit mid 80's by Friday.

Thanks, Ann Richards.
Ben-636050 -- Just so you know, posting in large bold font does not entice me to read your posts. But I do read SeekingSanity's posts, and in follow-up I would like to know --
Do you really believe that crap about needing to see the president's transcripts, and if you do is it about his grades even though he graduated magna cum laude (look that up), or do you really believe this would reveal something shady about how he got into Harvard?
Then I must ask how do you think rich and privileged people (like Romney) get into Harvard?
Then I must ask why you and other rightwingers keep posting this nontroversy -- Is it to be an obnoxious troll, or do you just "swoop and poop" thus never reading replies by other members like SeekingSanity or myself, or do you have Alzheimers and can't remember each time?

Spanker,
How the hell are you?
LOL!!!! The freaks come out at night.
Oh, by the way, have you seen those swing state polls? Your man, Mittens, is failing, losing, behind the curve; kinda like the jobs lost overseas.
Seeking,
Releasing your tax records has NEVER been a REQUIREMENT for running for president. You liberals say the most stupid things!! Of course, if that becomes a requirement, then of course, college transcripts should be a requirement as well...nothing like confirming that he hasn't lied on his resume, right?
What a strange argument for Mitt to make. The two signature achievements he's running on - Bain and the Olympics - would not have been successful without huge help from the government.
ya-know, as far as the Olympic here in SLC...Wiltard got the US government to basically bailout the SLC winter olympics. By paying for all the security needs and then some.
but hey, that just big government. thanks Bush.
Wow, you are delusional. Bain was private money, not government.
The Government is the problem, not the solution.
When will you libbys grow a spine and stop looking for a government handout. Get off your butts and find a job. Oh, you can't because Obama has outsourced them to illegal immigrants and given $29B for overseas jobs.
Wake up libbys, before it is too late.
RedSox - get back to work and support us Dems, will ya! Earn that big money so I can get a raise!
Obama/Biden 2012 -- Now with nationalized healthcare!!
So redsux, if I show you proof of Bain using public funds for their investment strategies, and I can, would you be big enough to admit your are wrong?

GST company’s underfunded pension was eventually bailed out by the federal government.

Again RedSuckRetard lies.
It's so funny that anyone that disagrees with the right wing, according to them, doesn't have a job. That means that those 68,000,000 voters that voted for Obama don't have jobs.
I wonder how that explains that in my city, Obama polls at 64%, favorable, and the unemployment rate is 6.1 percent?
FrankH Notice old rex sux can't answer that!
JohnNY -- That's absolutely correct. Romney didn't build his business on his own. He had government help. Here's one article that details that:
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-06-06/romney-critical-of-government-aid-that-helped-bain-profit.html
BTW -- Isn't it something that the media hasn't called him out on this fact these past few days?
Right now we are actually paying companies to ship jobs overseas, by giving companies tax write-offs for expenses to move operations overseas. The president talks about ending those tax credits, and instead rewarding companies for staying in the US, and for moving operations back to the US.

Update about 2012 London OlymPigs:
US team was lost on Highway for 4 hours after arriving in London, wondering why? and if free market can fix this problem of getting lost in London.
Best wishes to the US Team ......... USA USA
Would rightwing supporters be big enough to admit Romney is wrong for the country?
Let's see what you got on Bain using government money please?????
President Obama hasn't denigrated success. What he HAS done is denigrate those who succeed by causing misery for others as opposed to building things of value.
That's entirely appropriate. The Banksters and profiteers who destroyed our economy deserve to be denigrated.
Romney -- again-- comes out hitting like a school girl... Romney has a lot of explaining to do. We are learning why Romney avoids it -- Every time he opens his mouth he inserts a foot.
Take his explanation on tax returns. Since when do spouses of a candidate have to release returns? Is Ann going to do that? John McCain, John Kerry are senators have to release financial information all along. So Kerry had a total of 23 years of financial disclosure when he ran for POTUS.
Take the explanation of Cayman Island accounts. In the Land of Mitt Beilieve this is a wonderful land where foreign companies don't pay double taxes, ur uh in other words they can do business in the US and not pay US taxes. Hmm, so why does Romney have HIS money there?
Okay sure, let's "pivot" to Romney's 59-point plan. Oh my, it's all fluff that boils down to two points: The rich get richer, and the poor get poorer. The problem isn't that Romney hasn't defined himself. The problem is if he did, no one would vote for him.
Personally Romney has done our country a service. He is making the common people take notice of the injustices in our system, specifically the tax code. It isn't a question of whether something is legal, the question is should it be legal, and in some cases like Private Inequity firms using government (tax payer) money to line their own pockets -- WTF it should be illegal!
Even Romney as a person -- Has anyone else noticed this man has no interests, hobbies, even "sport?" If you go into one their mansions, is there a library filled with literature Romney enjoys reading, or perhaps an art collection? What does he do for exercise--maybe jog, or ride a bike, or does he just avoid cookies to stay fit? Riding on jet skis and driving a speed boat, or having a family BBQ poolside aren't interests.
This man has less dimensions than Data the android on Star Trek. Go ahead, try to define yourself Romney.
Romney -- He's only interested in money -- his money.

Wait, didn't Mittster claim HE was going to create a zillion new jobs on his first day? (Although the president is sworn in on Sunday)
Which is it Mittens? As this week shows with your Bain problems and your tax returns, you can't have it both ways...
Actually, the inauguration is always on a Tuesday; but he certainly can't SIGN legislation that hasn't been proposed or passed, now can he?

Obama/Biden 2012
Bain in Mitt's Arse ... uncomfortable ... and
this Mitt is not for you.
Romney has already created more jobs than Obama!
He was behind the start up of Staples. Starting with one store in 1986, Staples now is the world's largest office products company with $24 billion in sales in 2009.
There were a handful of companies in which jobs were lost, but the jobs created by all the others number in the hundreds of thousands ... hundreds of thousands of US workers.
What is even more noteworthy is the fact that he never blamed the previous management for his own difficulties – he just fixed what was wrong.
Only in the feeble mind of a republican!
Oh it's quite true Job1. Romney created hundreds of thousands of US jobs; Obama has lost millions. Already Romney, as a businessman, has done more good for this country than Obama has as president.
Your insults are a poor substitute for facts, figures and logic.
What would you expect? Jug-head knows nothing about business or how to create jobs. All he seems to know about business, he learned from Tony Rezko ( who's in prison).
Even his off-the-cuff comments are BS. How does he manage to insert-foot-in-mouth with such regularity?
RTFS - actually, he just changes from one foot to the next. It's a real talent!
Mitt is infected with Foot and Mouth virus?
Mitt was born with a silver foot in the mouth....
"The Romney campaign does not divulge it's complete fundraising schedule."
I will not vote for Romney with "blind trust."
Obama 2012
Bain in the arse, that's why Mitt is figeting, uncomfortable - that's the BOTTOM line.
....In interviews with attendees here it became apparent that "those who made those signs," were campaign volunteers who passed them out to attendees who identified themselves as business owners when they arrived at the event.
After the above revelation, are we to believe their "outrage" is genuine and holds merit!? Their sentiments are as fake as Romney as well as the context in which you guys are offering it! Ah, the joy of what
whomoney can buy!Do you know the big issue with Romney's tax returns? 2008. McCain might've seen 2007 and back, but not 2008. That's the year all our 401Ks took a nose-dive and it'll be the year that Romney made HUGE profits on his investments. Wealth redistribution without waiting for tax reform! All you have to do is know how to hedge your bets and have enough wealth to do it.
Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy for the GOP candidate when you find out he raided your retirement!
Making money in the private sector makes Romney a felon , among the moronic socialist moonbats in here....got it.
Bob, I didn't say he was a felon - but in lieu of seeing actual documents, I'm speculating that the reason he's reluctant to show his tax returns is that it'll reveal the timing of his biggest gains - namely, when we saw our biggest losses.
I also didn't call anyone names - but if that's all you've got, I guess I'm a moronic socialist moonbat who just wants to retire in a few years with money that I earned.
Obama wouldn't know free enterprise capitalism if it flew up his nose and laid an egg! The man has NO concept of open honest commerce, free exchange or the entrepreneurial spirit! He's a classic redistributionist -- by HIS OWN admission! Remember what he said to Joe the plumber? I'd be shocked to learn that he's ever taken a course in economics.
If you understood how markets work you would know that for every person that loses a $1 someone makes a $1..we tried 3 yrs of someone who doesnt know how to make any of us a $1 probably time to try the guy who knows who to make a buck
Actually I think the issue with his tax returns is that they probably state he is CEO of Bain in 2001 and 2002.
They may even have tax deductions associated with "business travel" to make board meetings.
Ursula,
I think you might be on to something wth Romney's tax returns.
Everyone, including all the conservatives, tea party folks know exactly how much of their net worth evaporated in their retirement accounts in the 3rd and 4th quarter of 2008.
What is Romney hiding in not releasing his tax returns going back the last 10 years?
Matt,
You also make a good point ... might catch him in a lie?
What is Obama hiding by not releasing ANY of his school records? Maybe Mitt is just waiting to release his returns in the same time frame it took Obama to release his birth certificate:)
How are report cards from 1983 pertinent to this? Unless you are so wrapped up in the many many times disproved birther crap . . . oh wait, you said "release birth certificate."
Never mind. Nothing said here will make any difference to someone still believing that lie.
A person's tax returns are personal and private. When one runs for the office of President some of that privacy is waived. That waiver is clearly stated in the financial disclosure rules. If a candidate fully complies with those rules, it doesn't mean jack squat what anyone else wants to see. It is the law of the land so live with it.
Matt, my point is that none of it matters, not tax returns, not obamas radical views and potential lies about where he was born to gain admission to Harvard. what matters is facts. This economy is in terrible shape bc of obama. he has no clue how to run this country and its evident by the last 3 yrs. If you actually concetrate on the facts ..the real facts you would understand
Typical lib matt, i said nothing about it being a fake you just assumed, i said waiting the same time frame which btw was over 2 yrs. I could care less about his birth cert. All i know is that he is the 2nd worst pres over the past 100 yrs behind carter.. nxt you will probably call me racist to
No OilShark, I never implied or suggested you were a racist. Nor would I unless you demonstrated it. In your post you didn't.
As far as the economy goes, I believe that it was turned around after it bottomed out roughly a year after President Bush's administration. And no, I do not blame him exclusively for the fall. There were global situations as well as financial industry issues associated with deregulation (pushed by Presidents Reagan and Clinton) which were worsened by President Bush's decisions that cumulatively created the condition that we've had to recover from.
If you recall, the GAO stated that the stimulus worked and it reported that if no further actions occurred that in 2011 the recovery would start to slow down and then further slow down in 2012. (source: http:// www.cbo.gov/publication /21492 )
I blame the Republicans in Congress for deliberately filibustering, obstructing, and yes, for sending up "jobs bills" and budgets that were truthfully agenda items. For not allowing the "further action" required to keep recovering at a resonable pace.
The Ryan budget is a perfect example - it wanted to defund PPACA among other things. Another example - Rand Paul tried to hold the NFIP re-authorization bill hostage by adding a personhood amendment. Had that worked it would have undercut refinancing of homes near water since federal law says these homes have to have flood insurance to qualify for a mortgage. Like we don't have enough issues in that area already?
You are correct, what matters is facts. You presented none in your statement "This economy is in terrible shape bc of obama." You presented none in your presumptive "2nd worst president" valuation.
I concentrate on facts and present them in my posts. You presented speculative, unsubstantiated comments that indicated a birther bias with pre-judged commentary on personal perspectives.
Good luck to you in your future endeavors.
Ben6....
You are technically correct.
Yet the SC nominee's, cabinet nominees provide their tax returns. Mitt's father began this tradition for presidential candidates when he ran for GOP nominee. He released 12 years. McCain saw 12 years of Mitt's returns in his vetting of Mitt in 2008.
Why is Mitt so stonewalling the voters and even fellow GOP supporters?
It is right.
Aside from the Vanity Fair article about the Bermuda tax shelter, according to David Cay Johnston, Romney's refusal to release his tax returns indicates that Romney has "been thinking about this since before Bain" but the American people deserve to learn:
The tax returns are likely to show: 1) gray market tax shelters; 2) how he was able to move huge amounts into his IRA; 3) years where he paid little if any taxes; 4) that he has in fact been involved with Bain beyond 1999, not just until 2002, but still is; and 5) how he has profited from taking jobs offshore.
The tax shelters are shady, the IRA definitely shady. But even if everything is legal, the American people know the difference between legal and ethical. Most common folk don't approve of how 1%ers like Romney concentrate wealth at the top--at their expense--and how they play by different rules (the system is rigged in their favor) to accrue and protect that wealth.
Ultimately, anyone who runs for office in which s/he would have control financially of anything -- from the treasury to the White House, that person must be trustworthy. Romney's tax returns are very relevant to presenting his tax policy. This is so basic and fundamental, and must be transparent.
Did Romney buy illegal, gray-market tax shelters?
If Governor Romney invested in illegal investments, I don't think he would have listed them on his tax returns.
Did Romney make use of offshore vehicles in order to defer or not pay taxes?
It has already been exposed that he did have some money in offshore accounts. That information is already out there.
Did Romney take advantage of things that were not caught in audits by the IRS?
So do you want the returns released for publication or do you want him audited? I'm sure the Administration can arrange that.
If Romney's returns are clean, if there's nothing to worry about, then why not just provide them?
Because it's not required. It would be a distraction and fodder for the opposition to make mountains out of tax returns. Besides if there was something wrong with them, the IRS would already have caught it --- being government agencies are efficient, right? And while returns aren't public, I think penalties and liens are.
He was probably able to move huge amounts into his IRA through 401k, pension plan, and profit sharing rollovers. (That this is a question reinforces the idea those going after these issues have no clue about business and investments).
How he profited from taking jobs offshore? Apparently, Bain kept no records of jobs created or lost (which in retrospect would be helpful now). It's highly unlikely the Governor's tax returns would answer this question.
As far as paying little or no taxes. You need to take that up with those who wrote the tax laws. (The majority of the time, I think they were Democrats).
Candice - in at least one prior post you said that President Obama should release his college papers and that Gov. Romney should release his taxes. Are you backing off of that now for both or just for Gov. Romney?
Ya'll should stick with the Bain and tax returns because if you look at the President's strategic plan he's got for our economy. You'd see it's growing at a whooping 1.3% , unemployment is over 8% while spending over 5 Trillion, it would be obvious what a failure he is. His green energy investments have been a complete failure, more people on government assistance than ever in our history, but hey, it's only tax money and if you don't pay taxes, why should yo care. While I'm sure it's someones else's fault, it is his record.
How about this Romney, Obama's slip of the tongue might actually have helped you in your dilemma about whether you ran a company or not in 2000 and 2001. You see, you could use that comment about non-owners building a business to segue into the fact that sometimes a "managing director" or CEO or a "sole stockholder" doesn't really build things or even tear things down (like corporate outsourcing). I take it from your most recent comments that the owner does it all. You could have added that sometimes the "little people" - the trusted employees actually build a business. You would have done that if you knew what you were doing - rather than just bobbing along. But don't worry, you're solidifying the most important component of your coalition - the 1%.
Beyond - can't believe i didn't think of that counter argument myself. absolutely a brilliant move if he'd have done it. Respect!
"If the signs weren't a reflection of true anger at the president, the voices of some business owners in the audience afterwards were."
The first grudging indication by First Read that something is up.
Despite First Read's efforts to first ignore the effect of the Obama speech in Roanoke, and then its attempt (along with research help from Chicago) to denigrate its significance,
...in the words of Joe Biden, Obama's Roanoke speech is a "big f**king deal"...
May be a game changer.
Bob in VA - yeah, the paid attendees with the campaign generated signs clearly are important to a Romney win! NOT!
Obama/Biden 2012
Context . . . context. Anyone can take comment, isolate it from the rest of the statement, and turn it into a political point.
And no, I don't approve when ANY one does it. It's unacceptable.
SS,
Where does it say paid attendees?
Whilst it is true that there are 1,000s if not millions of businesses that are identical, it is also true that there are some exceptional businesses and not all businesses start off small.
It is believed by some that there is a rule book that if followed guarantees success; it only it were true.
What Romney did wasn't innovative and wasn't new. He just followed a set of rules but those rules are ones that many who own businesses will NEVER follow, including me.
Romney is what we call a 'wide boy' over here. He is a totally different animal to America's finest who are household names around the world.
It actually doesn't really matter if Romney is the greatest thing created since sliced bread in terms of running a business. His character, intelligence, humility, reasoning and decision making abilities do matter.
What we know for an absolute fact is what he believes in with a passion and gives 10% of his earnings in support. Although that is his business and his right to do so freely, it does raise questions with millions of people inside and outside the USA. The same applies to anyone else who does similar things in the name of their 'faith'.
It is almost inevitable that Romney's faith is going to come under the spotlight in a negative way and some of that will be pay-back for all the screamers who stirred the pot using a false spoon over Obama's.
I wonder how the loyal Reps will feel when they find out that Romney doesn't have any health care insurance and neither does his close family. He doesn't need it. Insurance is only for those that cant pay on demand at short notice. The very reason why insurance started in the first play and it is now a rather large business.....
Romney jabs, jabs... nothing but thin air by the time the telegraphed punches arrive. Jobs council? Uh, okay.
This election will come down to the economy, and more importantly the perception of economic momentum by independents at that time. If independents think things are getting better, they will re-elect the incumbent. If independents think things aren't getting better, they will elect the challenger. Probably more so than any other election in modern history, that's true this time around.
But, while meaningless to the larger question of who will be president come next January, it is entertaining watching this amateur get schooled.
@Paul M,
Romney is shadow boxing. The problem is, he keeps punching his own self in the face.
Let's see those tax returns already, Governor. The American people have the right to know.
I will take Romneys record at Bain over Obamas record any day
When Bain bankrupted companies it also gutted pension plans. Then it dumped the gutted pension plans onto the US taxpayer to bail out while Bain and its investors walked away with the cash. This was a repeated business pattern. Note that even with the businesses that went bankrupt, Bain never took a loss.
What do you think that a man who fostered this business practice and helped to create this corporate pirate style activity would do if given a bigger piggy bank (the US Government) and the ability to help make the rules about how business practices can operate will do?
What Bain Capital did was legal. It returned a profit to its investors. It was not concerned about creating jobs, nor did it track them.
It was legal, that doesn't mean it was moral or ethical.
OilShark1:
Any oil shark would take Romney's record over Obama. Rape the environment, pillage conquered companies and their pension funds, and hide the money. And old time religion.
I will take Romneys record at Bain over Obamas record any day
OilShank - That's a deal!
Is Romney's sugar daddy under investigation by Las Vegas Gaming Commission.... Mob money connections in Macau .. What is China buying from ROMNEY ?
Palm,
The DOJ is also looking into his dealings with government officials in Macau and China. You cannot pay a bribe to a foreign government if you ae a US company.
Frontline has a special about this issue and his dealings...
And then, in other news..... In the past three weeks, a former Cook County commissioner, former Chicago alderman, former head of a county job training program, two county correction officers, and two county tax analysts have been arrested on corruption and bribery charges.
Candice-

Oh my, but , but,if you're speaking of Ricky Hendon from the West side; he is not named in the complain.
Don't you just love it? How about that dead beat, female - abusive, Joe Walsh, and the rest of the T-baggers in your neck of the woods?
Did I miss where he has been convicted?
Pleasde share....
Hi, Bev.
No. Ricky Hendon was not named in the complaint. There were references to his position but he was not named. No one on that three week list was convicted, Feisty. Wasn't there one sentenced in the last few days, though?
Yeah. Joe Walsh. I have to agree he's a piece of work. He is my Congressman. I get to hang up on him weekly each time he robo-calls. There's a tea party event in my neighborhood. I may go just to see if, after a few cups of coffee, Joe has one of his famous melt downs. I don't know about the abusive, dead beat allegations (he should have explained them better), but he is definitely too over the edge for me.
What's worse..... A totally corrupt government or a looney toon rep? Neither are good.
Quick! How many people of color are there in the photo at the top of the article?
It's like looking for where is Waldo... lol
We may not be able to find Waldo, but we certainly know where to find Feisty. Right here making snarky, two bit, underhanded remarks to incite the libtard crowd on the vine.
How precious!
Another right wing nitwit "Feisty" fan can't stop himself from making a personal attack!
They sure are a dime a dozen these days...
Shame you can't even fling a semi-decent insult little buddy! lmao@U... Mikey!
How are you holding up Feisty? Looks like you had short-bus leg humpers on both legs today. Well you know what they say about imitation.....
It's like looking for where is Waldo... lol
Feisty - Waldo's easy to find. He's the idiot standing in the center of the crowd.
The real question is: Where's Waldo's tax returns?

Oh, I see. The microwave does it for you!!! I bet that's awesome for you.
You're twisted from the get go. I'm sure, if you are white, that there would be a lot of white racist people like you out there crying out about it too.
Was that First Read's journalists on the TV last night?
When the "Kiss Cam" cameras showed the President kissing his wife, in the background were liberal journalists smooching on the President's posterior...
Willard comes out swinging, attempts to punch his way out of a wet paper bag only to lose to the wet paper bag by a TKO.
Willard comes out swinging, attempts to punch his way out of a wet paper bag only to lose to the wet paper bag by a TKO.
Yeah Al, That Mitten's is a real killer...LOL!
Comes out swinging eh? It reminds me of the big kid on the playground who has his hand on the top of the little kid's head as the little kid swings, and swings and doesn't hit anything. In our example Romney is the little kid and Obama is the big kid. Keep swinging and looking foolish, there, Willard.
No matter what we will never see this socialist lib democrat moocher fake news outlets like msDNC vet obama 1/100 as they do any conservative so Mitt should tell them to pound sand and when these idiots ask him questions about this crap, he should just refer to the failed policies of this food stamp/welfare puke of a president and stay with the topics that are affecting this country!
And again, the liberal media distorts the facts. Destroy AMERICA, vote for DaRat Obama, and other democRATS.
DaRat Obama= The start of America's downfall.
May GOD, save us from the evil of, democRATS.
So President Obama has voiced his belief that if not for government a business can’t be successful, and that entrepreneurs aren’t really that smart. Taken in context or not, the only thing good about this statement is that it’s riled up Romney – or at least has given him some air time in the media.
Many tout the frustration that no one “knows who Romney is”. “He needs to define himself.” We can’t hardly make heads or tails of the guy if we don’t see him and he rarely makes it on the news. Finally, it appears, he’s fired up and making the broadcasts.
Will this make a difference in the end?
The President has made right-rile-up ready comments before:
“When you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.”
“They cling to guns or religion.”
Among others.
The American attention span is short. Comments and gaffes come and go. The President was elected any way.
This issue may die down when another crazy comment comes from one or the other. In the meantime, the Roanoke speech may not be the turning point in the election campaigns many hope for, but at least it brought us closer to addressing the issues of people. It brought us closer to talking about what’s important in the country.
The context of the Roanoke, VA speech you refer to – notice, I clarified the meaning in “( )” for those, like Mr. Romney, that don’t understand what the “that” is referring to:
If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that (unbelievable American system). Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet. The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together.
http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2012/07/13/remarks-president-campaign-event-roanoke-virginia
Today in Ohio - ROMNEY: I know that you recognize a lot of people help you in a business. Perhaps the bank, the investors. There is no question your mom and dad, your school teachers. The people who provide roads, the fire, the police. A lot of people help. But let me ask you this. Did you build your business?
Dennis,
You'll note I wrote: "taken in context or not."
(Politicians need to figure out a way to only speak in ways that cannot be taken out of context, but that will never happen. You usually have to pull up whole transcripts to find the real story that is never fully reported in the news----like the President's comments here--- as well as "I like to fire people" "People are corporations" - stuff like that, too).
Actually all the conservatives I know believe he was referring to bridges and roads ---- "you didn't build that (bridges and roads)" as opposed to "you didn't build that (your own business)." The latter is what Far rights are saying he meant. I think the far right has the wrong interpretation and it's a stretch. Your interpretation (unbelievable American system) is an interpretation that might be considered as well.
Every one, I think, agrees that most successful people are inspired or motivated by someone. Most remember a teacher, a role model, an employer, who had an impact on one's life. Romney's comments in Ohio, then, were appropriate.
The President has not been outwardly friendly to business. His past rhetoric has made us sensitive so it's easy to run the Roanoke comments. That's unfortunate.
The last line doesn't hinder the conservative's interpretation. It sounds too much like "it takes a village." And we all know that didn't go over very well.
Sorry I didn't get back last night but I'm old and go to bed early. I did see your "in context or not" statement but posted this just to make sure other readers knew what you meant. My first thought was that he meant roads and bridges also but knowing how our President thinks I went for the bigger picture which Mitt described in with detail with his Ohio speech yesterday.
You said the President has not been outwardly friendly to business. I don't necessarily agree with that. Like you note he has provided tax breaks that were simulative (short term help) in intent they did help somewhat. Many of other actions that would create more business help has been blocked in Congress.
True small businesses are suffering the most. Large corporations and small businesses in name only are making record profits with huge cash reserves.
A little melody for all my left wing of the left wing pals.
Sing it, Patsy!!
"...Who's Whining Now...?"
School records again. If you GOP'ers would think once, it would seem that the Harvard Law School would serve the President if he was a lair.
Following high school, Obama moved to Los Angeles in 1979 to attend Occidental College. In February 1981, he made his first public speech, calling for Occidental to divest from South Africa in response to its policy of apartheid.[25] In mid-1981, Obama traveled to Indonesia to visit his mother and sister Maya, and visited the families of college friends in Pakistan and India for three weeks.[25] Later in 1981, he transferred to Columbia University in New York City, where he majored in political science with a specialty in international relations[26] and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1983. He worked for a year at the Business International Corporation,[27] then at the New York Public Interest Research Group.[28][29]
Chicago community organizer and Harvard Law School
Two years after graduating, Obama was hired in Chicago as director of the Developing Communities Project (DCP), a church-based community organization originally comprising eight Catholic parishes inRoseland, West Pullman, and Riverdale on Chicago's South Side. He worked there as a community organizer from June 1985 to May 1988.[29][30] He helped set up a job training program, a college preparatory tutoring program, and a tenants' rights organization in Altgeld Gardens.[31] Obama also worked as a consultant and instructor for the Gamaliel Foundation, a community organizing institute.[32] In mid-1988, he traveled for the first time in Europe for three weeks and then for five weeks in Kenya, where he met many of his paternal relatives for the first time.[33][34] He returned to Kenya in 1992 with his fiancée Michelle and his sister Auma.[33][35] He returned to Kenya in August 2006 for a visit to his father's birthplace, a village near Kisumu in rural western Kenya.[36]
In late 1988, Obama entered Harvard Law School. He was selected as an editor of the Harvard Law Review at the end of his first year,[37] and president of the journal in his second year.[31][38] During his summers, he returned to Chicago, where he worked as an associate at the law firms of Sidley Austin in 1989 and Hopkins & Sutter in 1990.[39] After graduating with a J.D. magna cum laude[40] from Harvard in 1991, he returned to Chicago.[37] Obama's election as the first black president of the Harvard Law Review gained national media attention[31][38] and led to a publishing contract and advance for a book about race relations,[41] which evolved into a personal memoir. The manuscript was published in mid-1995 as Dreams from My Father.[41]
Well, of course, if Obama said something in a real live book, it must be true. Golly, that's good enough for me!
Better start running harder Obama, Romney's gonna get you!
Coming soon to a debate near you...
