Video: The Week Ahead: The Boos have it!

President Obama heads to Texas, the Romney Veepstakes Heat Up, more Campaigning in the Midwest and what's with all the booing?

Discuss this post

What do you libbys think about the latest gallup poll?

Don't you think it is sad that rather than running on his record, Obama Kardashian needs to run away from his record? Has any incumbent ever done that before??

The amateur in chief is truly a trail blazer on that front. Same as how much debt he has piled on, and how much he enriched his donors with stimulus money that was given to them.

How about that transparency promise? LOL

Anyone know why he has a Connecticut SSN?

First of all, please tell me you're not stupid enough to think that anyone out here in the real world would be able to obtain the President's Social Security Number, okay?

Secondly, this was debunked over a year ago...

SSN: The Area Number does not necessarily represent the State of residence of the applicant regardless of whether the card was issued prior to, or after, 1973.

Aside from Romney's pathetic performance at the NAACP -- Using offensive terms like "Obamacare" (good thing he didn't slip and say "Obamneycare") and bringing in his own black caucus (so to speak) as plants to applaud during his speech, and so Romney could have a fake meeting with "leaders of the black community"... We've seen what a dismal flop it has been for Romney to deride the 95-98% as just wanting "free stuff" you know all that "stuff" they pay into like Social Security and Medicare.

After GOP/Bush-era policies of unnecessary war and mismanagement across the board, and after Wall Street and the Banksters got their "free stuff" the Teapublicans come to the American people with their hands out asking them to sacrifice their Social Security, their Medicare/ACA to pay for their despicable mistakes.

More tax cuts for the rich! The Teapublicans--they are the ones who know all about "free stuff" now aren't they?

Mitt will address the issue on the NBC, CBS and ABC evening news.
The issue is too complex to answer in a 6-8 minute segment … all he plans to do is say, afterwards, that he has addressed the issue so let's move on without ever providing the full details. Now that he has opened the door to the entire country on the network news more questions than ever will be asked … will Mitt answer them ?

Steeler Fan, we are so glad you are back! Sounds like an exciting vacation, I look forward to that drink! Well, Well, WELL! What a week it has been! For the doldrums of summer, this has been something to watch!

I am sure that our good friend IR is over at the Dew Drop Inn getting ready for the end of the week celebration. Which is a good time to ask:

What oh what have we learned? Plenty! We keep hearing from the folks on the fringe right that they and they alone are fiscally responsible! To prove that, what did they do this week? Wasted 50 million dollars in a show vote to repeal the ACA, just so they can try to make political hay out of during the elections! They want to be able to go back to their districts and intone solemnly "I voted to repeal the ACA, I am serious that people who need insurance should not be able to get it, even though I have the Gold Standard of health insurance paid by you suckers who keep sending me to office! You can't have it, and even though I am glad that my new college graduate can stay on my plan, that you pay for, I voted so that you may not access the same, even though you would pay for that too! In fact, I am such a stand up guy (or gal) that I want to make sure that sick babies can be denied health insurance because they have a preexisting condition. Same for your wife with breast cancer, or your dad with lung cancer. Why as long as MY family is covered, we just don't care about Joe and Joan America. And thank you for the 50 million dollars that you allowed us to waste this week, because you buy our garbage about being the party who cares about money. We don't. We care about US!"

What else did we learn? Oh, Mitty, you scalawag you! There is just no end to the lies you will tell to make yourself look like the Big Man on Campus, is there? Mitty, you got some explaining to do! That story in the Boston Globe is pretty damaging. Looks like you wanted to give the appearance that you were not with Bain when they were sending those jobs overseas, but doggone it, you got found out! It was amusing hearing that you tried to bully the Boston Globe, and apparently they weren't impressed with your bluster.

Here's the problem in a nutshell Mitty. If you were President and CEO of Bain during those years, like Truman used to say the buck stops with you. If you don't believe that, you have no business running for the highest office in the land.

Which is it Mitt? You were the hotshot CEO that you are basing your campaign on...or are you trying to pull a fast one on the American people and the SEC?

Can't wait to find out more!

My thanks to my hosts! You guys have been busy this week, so hope you have a good weekend! Feisty, Steeler is buying, so let's get this party rocking!

The real question is … which Network will have the courage to ask the truly tough questions ?

Uncovered today – The Romney campaign has claimed that the former Massachusetts governor cut all ties with Bain Capital when he left to run the 2002 Winter Olympics in February of 1999, but a press release from July of 1999 seems to contradict this account. Bain Capital CEO W. Mitt Romney currently on a part-time leave of absence to head the Salt Lake City Olympic Committee for the 2002 Games.”

On Friday, the Romney campaign made some changes. It hired Danny Diaz, a GOP operative who previously worked for John McCain and the Republican National Committee, to handle rapid response with the news media. And the candidate agreed to sit down for interviews with five TV networks—ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News and NBC—in what is presumed to be a part of the campaign's pushback against the Bain attacks.

Well, retract my comment on news outlets; Mitt decided to give CBS, NBC and ABC a try but as DENNIS said, he cannot possibly answer the questions in the brief segments he will be given. Romney will give the standard "I did nothing illegal" answer and spin off to tell everyone that he knows how to run a business--never mind that Government is not nor should it ever be run like a business.

NDD, terrific end of the week; especially enjoyed your description of the GOPers explaination to voters about why they wasted $50 million to repeal ACA. I figured they'd just say "I've got mine, screw you."

Thanks to our First Read hosts for another fine week of politics. Now it's time to head to the DDI and watch Romney spin on the MSM. A toast to Willard's experience at Bain, it is indeed the "bane" of the GOPers.

P.S. RedSox, I really do not give a hoot about Romney or Obama's college transcripts. I find the right's obsession with petty nonsense, however, to be amusing. Small minds, as they say, think about small, irrelevant things. Et tu?

Red Sox,

Mitt-Bain Questions

I don't see how he can straighten out the conflicting information. If he took a LOA that explains the SEC filings but makes the Obama campaign correct about the outsourcing – not a lie. However his statement that he retired in 1999 does not fit with the SEC filings or testimony to the Mass Board of Elections that he should be considered a resident (so he could run for Governor) because he made many trips back to Mass for Board meetings or as to why he didn't negotiate a severance package with Bain until 2002.

I can explain away the Board meetings and severance package but not the SEC filings. He was on the Board of a company (not Bain) but Board members are not involved in daily operations. He didn't worry about his severance until after the Olympics because he was too busy. But this is why we would love to see his tax records because they would show what his pay and bonuses were from Bain during that period where the SEC records only show that his pay was in their top bracket of greater than $100,000.

While his campaign continues, as expected, to say that this is just a distraction other top Republicans are more concerned.

Dennis, in my view, the sheer volume of Romney's lies will make it almost impossible for him to explain any of the Bain issues. He has for more than a decade switched his stories about Bain to suit whatever the need and now, it has finally caught up to him. No matter which version he tells tonight, it will prove one lie or a deception of the SEC and Bain shareholders. It really is a Catch 22 for him but it should come as no surprise to anyone of us who has consistently pointed out the flip flops, the nuance, the latest version of his many tales.

Bev, it comes as no surprise; it shows a sense of desperation on the right.

Dont_carry_it_all -- Apparently Romney's campaign has no clue about the truth of Romney's "business experience." If they're smart they will quietly start resigning. It's like a lawyer trying to defend a criminal that is guilty and won't come clean. Speaking of which, forget about Danny Diaz, a GOP operative, Romney needs a good lawyer.

This is a Big F****g Deal. Clinton was not impeached base on his immoral or unethical activities, rather for LYING in an attempt at cover-up. Aside from the fact that stories are breaking daily about Bain/Romney activities before 1999, for example this information uncovered by David Corn:

Last month, Mitt Romney's campaign got into a dustup with the Washington Post after the newspaper reported that Bain Capital, the private equity firm the GOP presidential candidate founded, invested in several US companies that outsourced jobs to China and India. The campaign indignantly demanded a retraction, claiming that these businesses did not send jobs overseas while Romney was running Bain, and the Post stood by its investigation. Yet there is another aspect to the Romney-as-outsourcer controversy. According to government documents reviewed by Mother Jones, Romney, when he was in charge of Bain, invested heavily in a Chinese manufacturing company that depended on US outsourcing for its profits—and that explicitly stated that such outsourcing was crucial to its success.

This previously unreported deal runs counter to Romney's tough talk on the campaign trail regarding China. "We will not let China continue to steal jobs from the United States of America," Romney declared in February. But with this investment, Romney sought to make money off a foreign company that banked on American firms outsourcing manufacturing overseas.

On April 17, 1998, Brookside Capital Partners Fund, a Bain Capital affiliate, filed a report with the Securities and Exchange Commission noting that it had acquired 6.13 percent of Hong Kong-based Global-Tech Appliances, which manufactured household appliances in a production facility in the industrial city of Dongguan, China. That August, according to another SEC filing, Brookside upped its interest in Global-Tech to 10.3 percent. Both SEC filings identified Romney as the person in control of this investment: "Mr. W. Mitt Romney is the sole shareholder, sole director, President and Chief Executive Officer of Brookside Inc. and thus is the controlling person of Brookside Inc." Each of these documents was signed by Domenic Ferrante, a managing director of Brookside and Bain.

Romney is going to go down for telling great big LIES. Romney is a fraud!

    Sameosameo ... ok

Gosh Dennis ... still want to talk about it?

Romney was making a return for his investors, union pensions, etc, and Obama was community organizing, traveling abroad, writing 2 books about himself, running for office ... not much chance to invest in anything, huh?

    How about Obama as President?

What has he done with tax payer dollars other than to invest hundreds of millions in Fisker and Tesla - cars that are made overseas by foreign workers .... battery companies that are now moving to Russia ... btw - is that not outsourcing?

Other than giving billions of tax payer dollars to Petrobas / Soros to drill off Brazil while shutting down drilling in the US ..... btw - how is shutting down US companies in the Gulf while sending billions to Brazil and then telling them "we want to be your best customer" - not outsourcing?

Why does Obama want to be Brazilian oil companies best customer instead of being American oil companies best customer?

Other than that little stuff ... what has Obama done well besides having a job czar that ships jobs overseas for medical diagnostic equipment, wind turbines, jet engines .... oh yea then there is GM...GM Volts made in China, other models being made in Canada, Mexico etc ..

    From the Washington Post ....

The Russian government more than doubled its U.S. contracts last year by providing helicopters for Afghanistan and rides to the International Space Station.

Obama is borrowing money from China to buy Russian helicopters to give to the Afghans? Just so wrong on so many levels.

Companies run by the Russian government received $792 million in direct federal awards in the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, compared with $342 million the year before. They were among 30 prime vendors based outside the United States ranked in a Bloomberg Government study of the largest 200 federal vendors in fiscal 2011. Those contractors — including Rome-based Finmeccanica SpA and Russian arms trader Rosoboronexport — attracted almost $29 billion in direct awards, about 8.6 percent of the top 200 total of $338 billion, according to the study.

…Other foreign companies on the top 200 list included holding company Finmeccanica, whose units received $1.3 billion in direct awards last year for products including military aircraft components; oil vendor BP, with $1.4 billion; and Amsterdam-based military food supplier Supreme Foodservice, with $2 billion.

We have to buy Italian components for our military aircraft from a country that historically produces crap military aircraft compared to US?

We have to buy BP OIL! No American companies THAT DIDN'T CREATE THE BIGGEST DISEASTER in the Gulf were good enough!

We have to have a company in the NETHERLANDS FEED OUR TROOPS!

Obama is using taxpayer dollars to outsource $29 BILLION for services that Americans can easily provide?

Btw - Did Romney ever use tax payer dollars against the tax payers?

So in summary, Dennis what does that make the score on outsourcing?

    Obama - $29 Billion +

    Romney - $0

Here's some more news. Rice has once again said she will not be a VP.

Rice has previously said she would not consider the job. "There is no way that I will do this," Rice told CBS News in June when asked if she would agree to joining the Republican ticket. Despite Thursday's report, she's sticking to her word, says Georgia Godfrey, Rice's chief of staff.

Obama and his zombie-like supporters, (who mumble his talking points over and over, and expect to be taken seriously as intelligent life forms), simply cannot believe that running the Olympics took all of Romney's time from 1999 until 2002. Why should he- or they?

After all, Onama is President of the United States- but he has PLENTY of time to golf, vacation, have weekly soirees at the White House at taxpayer expense, meet with sports teams, and fundraise, fundraise, fundraise! Why, there have been times when he was at six fundraisers in three days!

Since the job for which OBAMA was hired takes up so little of his time, (with the results to prove it), why should he believe that anybody's job would consume him or her to the exclusion of everything else?

    Mitt-Bain contradictions … and a few questions
Mitt said he retired from Bain in 1999.
Mitt said he took a leave of absence in 1999.
A Bain press release from July of 1999: "Bain Capital CEO W. Mitt Romney currently on a part-time leave of absence to head the Salt Lake City Olympic Committee for the 2002 Games." What is a part-time LOA, what does that even mean?
Mitt testified that he was a MA resident because he traveled from Salt Lake City to MA many times to attend Board meetings.
Between 1999 and 2001 Mitt Romney signed at least 6 documents that the private equity firm filed with the SEC.
He may not have been involved in the day to day operations of Bain Capital but he, according to the SEC filings, had legal responsibility as President, Chairman, CEO and sole shareholder.
One Bain employee said he reported to Mitt Romney while Mitt lived in Salt Lake City.

I know that you are not interested in the truth, Dennis- but here it is, anyway

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checker/post/do-bain-sec-documents-suggest-mitt-romney-is-a-criminal/2012/07/12/gJQAlyPpgW_blog.html?wprss=rss_fact-checker

So, see, when Romney left Bain in 1999- that would have been Bill Clinton who was president, by the way- he intended it to be a leave of absence. When the games ended, he decided to make a permanent separation- that would be, a retirement- in order to run for Governor.

I also realize that you would do ANYTHING for Obama- including make yourself look like an idiot by repeating debunked LIES, spin, and innuendo- so, have at it.

It reveals the desperation of the Obama campaign. Those internal polls must be really, really bad- maybe even worse than the ones they saw in 2010.

There is nothing mature about taunting people RSR, if anything it shows you are an immature bully, you are closed minded, and you revel in the pain of others.

Those who think what the TEA Party is doing now is hilarious might have thought what the NAZI Party was doing was funny too in the beginning before the German Leaders started shooting the opposition. I am not amused by the digs RWNJs use to put down opposition in the news vine. The utter lack of respect and decency disturbs me greatly. It is one thing to not respect a person, it is another to stalk and harass. I have bitten (figuratively) my share of trolls in the News vine. I leave people I disrespect ALONE after I bite.

Speaking of comedy, the past two weeks are as comical as they get (of course the minute I say that, it only means it will get more comedic).

Here we have Issa conducting a witch hunt and creating a massive tax payer funded stink over one memo related to Fast/Furious. If we would believe the GOP/TP faction, this single memo proves beyond a doubt the Obama administration personally killed Border Agent Terry, and it is the kingpin piece of evidence that links Obama to a 'real' conspiracy that takes away guns from Americans, and even more dreadful, declares Martial Law to stop the 2012 elections. Wow, all that from a single memo.

Yet, when it comes to Romney disclosing his tax returns and disclosing the truth behind his rather strange I was CEO/not a CEO of Bain, the GOP/TP are suddenly throwing their hands up in the air, wondering why the big deal. Never mind that shady CEO titans, in the last 6 years are the masterminds behind the housing collapse, the stock market collapse, the banking collapse, and massive employee layoffs. We have witnessed the B. Madoff scam; Wasendorg-Peregrine scandal; the M. Marin investment scam; JP Morgan scam; LIBOR scam; and the convictions in the Wall Street mafia trillion dollar scam. Given the amount of corruption and the massive amounts of money scammed by these "business types", we should be asking any Presidential Candidate with a business background for full disclosure. How else will we know if he is just another shyster, or an above board business man?

So there we have it folks, the right invents crazy, outlandish, and comedic conspiracies that revolve around one memo. The left, after several years of theft and corruption simply want the opposing candidate vetted. And the call the left loony? It is the height of responsibility.

@Northstar - the link below is great coverage on the bond market rate manipulation conducted over at least a 10 year period and is loosely estimated to have cost cities and tax payers hundreds of billions if not trillions. I find it odd it hasn't been discussed here more often. Of course, the right are desperately trying to hide the fact that it ever happened.

The LIBOR rate manipulation is global, impacted almost every global inter-bank lending board, and will make the bond scheme look like small potatoes. While no one will ever know the true cost, some estimates put it into the 10 of trillions scammed. But hey, those gosh darn banks don't need no regulations. As I've said before, banks need to be regulated so tightly that the CEOs can't use the restroom without telling an auditor if they will be going number one to number two. For god knows, they certainly cannot be counted upon to count anything honestly.

No...the brain trust would be the democratic supporters.

Gates, buffet, Jobs(before he died) and now Ballmer, Page (Google), Paul Allen(m$), Jeff Bezos (amazon), Vinton Cerf (the internet), larry ellison (oracle), david filo (yahoo).

See, I could live without most republicans. You don't actually provide anything of note. You package it and sell it. But few create anything themselves.

But no way I could live without democrats. They're the inventors, scientists, mathematicians, etc who actually create new things.

The White House’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approved the controversial July 12 rule that allow states to opt out of the successful, bipartisan and popular 1996 welfare reform law that required people on welfare to also work to maintain those benefits.

Mitt Romney didn't just get booed at the NAACP, he got 14 solid seconds of boos and he deserved every one of them.

Amazing fictional tale from Redsox who claims President Obama isn't running on his records. Contrast that with the real President's speeches where he talks about his successes of ACA, saving the auto industry, bringing jobs back from China, and the countless other parts of his record. Heard him today in VA tell voters that he is pleased that so much economic progress has been made in 3 1/2 years but that he recognizes there's more to do.

Redsox must have "misspoke"; he really meant that it was Mitt Romney who wasn't running on his record. He disowned RomneyCare, speaks about being Governor but avoids talking about what he did as Governor, he mentions the Olympics but can't too much because the taxpayers bailed him out, won't release his tax returns, has millions stashed off-shore or did he just "out source" his millions. Romney used to tout his Bain Capital experience but now appears to be running just as fast as he can to spin it.

I fully expect Mitt Romney to claim that Obama signed RomneyCare into MA law, signed to increase taxes as Gov of MA, bailed out the Olympics and forged those signatures and dates on the Bain paperwork. Wouldn't surprise me, Mitt blames President Obama for everything.

Jody---the more I think about the NAACP speech, the more I think it shows how de-sensitized the treatment of the President has made the Republicans. They have failed to give President Obama the respect due his office and so by referring to ACA by its derisive nickname of Obamacare, I think Romney was surprised that people took offense. Like it or not, it is a signature achievement by the President and the lack of respect was telling.

Whats in a name? Whatever it is called , it is massively unpopular, a bureaucratic monstrosity and will be repealed in 2013 !

The President is out of touch with reality.. His economic record is a massive failure and disaster by any measure. The worst economic recovery from a recession since WW2. Massive government spending with massive deficits, and no plan to stop the fiscal bleeding .

Just watched Willard on NBC and guess what, he spun right off to blamed President Obama for his troubles; did NOT answer the questions asked beyond the same story he's been telling "I left in Feb 1999...had no" say so over the operations and it's all President Obama's fault that the media is picking on him. He again said he has no intention of releasing any additional tax forms. So McCain gets tax forms back to 1984 and the American people, whom he is asking to vote for him and to trust him, have no right to know. Excuse me, Mitt, your dishonesty and lies continue to show. I watched Romney's eyes, he was lying every moment of that interview.

As if Vaginal Probe McDonnell wasn't bad enough, this gem from the Maddow show last night was priceless (also printed in 2009 at Salon). Apparently, vagina probes isn't the only probing that gets this conservative's gun ready to fire.

That’s not even the most absurd part of the story, though. When Scanlon asked McDonnell if he had ever committed sodomy, the Republican answered, “Not that I can recall.” http://www.salon.com/2009/09/09/mcdonnell/

Do we call him VaginalProbe McDonnell, or MightSodomize McDonnell.

Bob - my guess is you're right that we will not have any respect for the VP candidate for Romney. That is because no one with any integrity or self-respect would run with Mitt. He has shown he is lacking in character, integrity, honor, and conscience. So, we probably won't be finding anyone with sterling character teaming up with him. No one of integrity would choose to be his running mate.

So to you point, what reason is there for someone to reveal their financial records? I mean, America let slide on Obama and his college transcripts (again..WHY are they SEALED?). But be that as it may, both sides spend far too much time about such trivial things. I'm quite certain that Romney's tax returns have been looked over by the IRS and if there was anything out of the ordinary, I'm SURE someone would have reported it by now. Simply because you don't like that he's rich and has the ability to invest his wealth as he sees fit (or as his blind trust sees fit) should be a matter between him and his attorney's and accountants.

As for flip flopping, both candidates have done an excellent job at changing their stance on topics. As much as you might not like to admit it, Obama has changed his stance on various issues over the years, and yet you still voted for him, right? So why can't you give that same measure of respect for the other candidate? Aren't they allowed to change their view on issues? (whether it be to gain them votes or because they truly adopted a new and "evolved" stance on a subject.)

You sound like another useful pawn who thinks that the poor don't deserve anything. This is the common theme from Republicans: that the poor are lazy free loaders while the rich wear the white hats. It's to justify all the goodies the rich get and to demonize the poor so that no one will complain when they strip the poor of everything. And useful pawns serve the rich against their own interests. Throw in a Black man from the other party who beats two of the worst candidates ever to run for the White House (John McLame and Sarah Failin' Six Pack Palin, and you piss the Republican pawn off big time!

              Military Members, Veterans, Military retirees;

please note that Swiss Bank account Romney PROMOTED THE DRAFT during the Viet Nam War,

then skipped out to France for extraordinary length of time when church missionary tours were limited.

When Romney came home, he sided with his dad that the whole Viet Nam War was a scam and that he was against the war.

Promoting the draft, while Americans were dying, he skipped out, then says he wishes he could have participated. His whole life has been a lie.

Romney is a COWARD, Lying, Draft Dodger, who promoted someone else to die for him, that is his way of management.

Some may want anyone but Obama, but this guy ranks with Jane Fonda and should not be given anything or elected for anything.

For those who are not old enough to remember the military draft, it was a mandatory commitment for two years that was implemented during the Viet Nam War. If your number was called, you went and served like it or not. Young people may say, I wouldn't go and they can't make me, think again.

This is what Romney promoted as if he were a "responsible citizen", then he left his fellow citizens to serve and some died for us and him. I am ashamed of him as I am retired military member, and forget about representing our country Mr. Romney.

I am one of the Military members who are against Romney, this has nothing to do with politics.

Da Noid Beverly in Chicago even tho she is wrong about Romney's release of his tax return's gives you your answer. Obama released his tax returns. He forgot to redact his SS#, 042-68-4425 on the return. And then there is the Selective Service Registration card the same SS# appears for Obama. So yes the President's number has been revealed by his stupidity. And guess what it doesn't matter really whether that card was issued in Connecticutt or Hawaii. Why? because the Social Security Administration has verified that number 042-68-4425 the number Obama is using WAS NEVER ISSUED TO OBAMA

                  Reply#19 - Sat Jul 14, 2012 5:31 PM EDT

Da Noid Your answer was posted by Beverly in chicago even tho she is wrong about Romney posting his tax return which he has done. She did that unknowingly, something liberals often do. She said Obama HAS posted his tax return. In his stupidity he didn't redact his SS# 042-68-4425. He also used it on his Selective Service Registration, also made public. Now you don't have to believe me on that just pull Obama's tax return and Selective Service Registration up on line. The question tho will you believe your own eyes? Then check with the Social Security Administration. You see it doesn't matter whether Obama got it in Hawaii or Connecticutt because the Social Security Administration NEVER ISSUED THE SS# 042-68-4425 TO OBAMA. How about explaining why Obama is using a SS# not issued to him?
