No, it is the cost of health care that needs to be reduced, and that in turn would lower the spending on entitlements.

Why aren't real solutions for root causes of problems the focus? In part because congress is too lazy to do the more complex and difficult thing. As for the Teapublicans, they actually want economic crisis so they justify the destruction of all that they hate, which is basically America.

I'm not sure that I agree that Huntsman was "the only one that had a chance to defeat Obama", or not. However, he was my candidate. I appreciated his economic stance, specific to domestic policy vs. international policy.

Huntsman wanted to throw out our trade agreement with China and start over. I spent Monday and Tuesday interviewing a pretty significant person in our industry that lives in Shanghai (flew back Tuesday night). The Chinese government has no respect for the US, nor cares about how they treat our citizens, economy or business relationships. The only reason they crack down on illegal Apple I stores is to save face, not because it was wrong. We have a free trade, zero tariff agreement in place, yet they impose a 50% (non-tariff) fee on all US imports (I have personal experience losing sales in China due to tariffs, and if you can buy a similar product manufactured in China they often can't purchase any other, even if they want to pay the 50% premium). I was hopeful that Huntsman would have the courage to finally stand up for good trade relations that helped our country and citizens, specifically the middle class.

Unfortunately, the extreme right leaning morons of the Republican party would rather find a candidate that would stack the court to repeal Roe vs. Wade, fight against gay rights, mantra the fight against Obamacare and other political stands that simply don't matter in the lives of the 90% of us in the political middle.

So unlike Bush who took over when unemployment was 4% and almost doubled it, Obama took office at a time when the country was hemorrhaging jobs very quickly. Economists say the business recession continued for several more months, ending in June 2009 (link provided). Since then, the country has added 1.4 million jobs. tHis is as of Jan 2011 so we have added more jobs (while government jobs decreased at the same time).

African Americans are faced with a rising, not declining, unemployment rate under this administration. Sure, they deserve to be very proud of the first ever black president of the United States, but there will be more black presidents and better than this one. The reason Romney did not accept pay as governor is the same reason he contributes speaking fees to charity -- Because EARNED INCOME would make him pay more than a 13% tax rate. As for 10% of the 19% he gives to charity, this is tithing the same as all Mormon's pay. Warmachine2012 -- There is a LOT of confusion (thanks to the rightwing propaganda machine) about the mandate tax penalty versus the way ACA is funded. The mandate is only applicable to those who do not already have health insurance even though they could afford it. The funding for ACA comes from health insurance companies and Cadillac insurance plans, a luxury tax on tanning salons, and a small increase in Medicare taxes for those earning $200,000 or more (the richest 2%) who currently only pay into Medicare on their first $106,000 of income.

Your second claim that health care is a separate issue from the economy is also incorrect. Rising health care costs represent a large toll on struggling families, many of whom have had to file bankruptcy--many who have health insurance. We still need to address the cost for health care, but ACA is a good step toward economic recovery for the middle class and working poor.

I don't know anyone who voted against Kerry in 2004 because he had some money. Bush had some money too. I'm not sure any of that really mattered then. It is kind of funny though that Kerry, prior to his marriage to Teresa Heinz, didn't really have much money. She brought almost all the wealth, as the widow of Senator John Heinz, heir to the Heinz family fortune. About the only thing truly "real" about John Kerry was that he had to get his money, like for a yacht that he would berth out of state to avoid his own states taxes (but nevermind, taxes don't alter people's behavior all that much, really), by marrying the widow of a Republican who tragically died in an airplane crash.

But, of course, you knew all this when you posted your false claims I'm sure.

Of course the NCAAP did not like Romney, he was not a socialist, did not make up fake social problems and did not stand up and try to blame everything on the white man or Bush Jr. Personally between them, the ACLU and Obama America does not need any enemies they are doing a great job of destroying us from within. Look at their donations and they probably get the majority from Al Queda since they are doing a better job of destroying this country then any terrorist could ever imagine.

I think that Mr. Romney made the right choice to go, and to say what he knew would get him some boos. It was worth perhaps a million or two in advertising since the media, predictably, would report on this aspect of it more. See, most Americans do not like Obamacare and do not want Obamacare. So, for moderates and independents, which are in this group too, to see Mr. Romney tell the most rabid of Mr. Obama's supporters that if elected he would repeal this horrible law plays to conservatives and moderates/independents. But it even reinforces in the minds of liberals the stakes here.

Winning by not being Mr. Obama might be possible, but it also wouldn't be a mandate for action. But winning, after saying what you intend to do, would bring along to Congress many more supporters than opposition candidates, and would give you a fair amount of political capital to push the repeal through.

I personally want to that the NAACP for not being politically savvy enough to figure this out on their own prior to the invitation to Mr. Romney was made. Mr. Obama will NOT speak to the NAACP since the marker was placed, and if he failed to address the issue then it would be tantamount to his accepting the law is bad and the momentum isn't with him. But if he did address it then it would be just one more claim he will have a hard time overcoming with moderates and/or independents.

They need to divide this country in half, the south , conservatives, the north , liberals, gays , and dumbazzes, it could be called Gaymerica and Obama could be its president and anyone there could never enter the southern part again, we could put land mines across the border , like we should have done the southern border of the U.S.

The abject stupidty of the comments about Romney never cease to amaze me so heres a few facts that the Obama rump swabs will ignore: Romney ran the Olympics for three years and took no salary; he was Governor here for 4 years and took no salary; we had not job growth here when he was Governor because we were technically at more than full employment so there were no jobs to be had; he gave 19% of his income to charity in 2011 (Obama gavce 1%) and his first business investment ever was in a small start-up office supply company with one store. It now has 2,000 stores, 90,000 employees and is known as Staples. Vote for Obama if you must, but he's a fraud and a failure.

If a white crowd had booed Obama like the NAACP crowd booed Romney, you would have heard one mainstream pundit after another talk about racism and disrespect. But it is okay for the NAACP to boo the white guy. It is kind of funny though that Kerry, prior to his marriage to Teresa Heinz, didn't really have much money. Yes, it's working well at further separating the haves from the have-nots. Because more and more physicians are setting up practices outside the system, there are fewer and fewer doctors in the system. Those who can afford it, pay extra to see those out-of-the-system doctors. Those who can't afford it, get stuck in the queue, waiting times continue to increase. It's the same dynamic that occurred in Australia and Britain, and the same thing will happen in the U.S. when the ACA is fully implemented.

The only way it won't happen, will be to substantially increase doctor compensation - however, the CBO didn't take that into account when they calculated their deficit reduction projections. The ACA will substantially add to our national deficits if doctors are to be adequately compensated for their services (at least enough so they don't decide to drop out or decide not to become doctors in the first place). Unless, of course, you think we should start forcing doctors at gunpoint to practice medicine!

I am not aware of any doctors who work 'outside the system' and the list of PCPs for my plan (HMO Blue Cross provided by employer) is pages and pages long. Thanks to the ACA parts that took effect - our monthly payments went DOWN here. None of what you say is true.

When the Massachusetts health care took effect all those people already with insurance were UNAFFECTED...let me repeat for the dense....UNAFFECTED. You kept your same doctor, same insurance, same everything - there were no extra taxes, no extra fees.

If you did not have insurance coverage in most cases you qualified for State insurance programs. For the minority that both did not have employer offered insurance and who chose not to participate in any State programs they were warned for two years...after that if they still did not have insurance the State took a portion of the persons annual State tax return (for example: you were going to get $400 back - the State took $160 and you got the remaining $240). There was/is no additional tax on top of anything else like the Republicans are scaring people with.

Those that don't, die rather quickly on a whole. The tiny State of Connecticut has more MRI machines that the entire country of Canada. I know, my family has lived in Canada. Mass also has a higher Medical Loss Ratio: 88/12 than dictated by the ACA which means Mass employers/policy holders will be getting a greater rebates that can be cash or applied towards future premiums. So yes, we have been seeing some reduction in premiums. On top of that, my insurance rate for 2012 went up $1.25/week while before it was systematic $30-40 a month.

Republicans are drinking their own koolaid about Obamacare.

1. The plan is not a government takeover of health care like in Canada or Britain. The government will not take over hospitals or other privately run health care businesses. Doctors will not become government employees, like in Britain. And the U.S. government intends to help people buy insurance from private insurance companies, not pay all the bills like the single-payer system in Canada. The key parts of the current U.S. system -- employer-provided insurance, Medicare for the elderly, Medicaid for the poor -- would stay in place. The government would create health insurance exchanges for people who have to buy insurance on their own, so they could more easily compare plans and prices.

2. Insurance companies will be regulated more heavily. They will be told the minimum services they must cover, including preventive care. They will have to pay out a certain percentage of premiums for patient care. By 2014, when the exchanges open, insurers won't be able to deny customers for pre-existing conditions.

3. Everyone will have to have health insurance or pay a fine, a requirement known as the individual mandate. The government intends to cap premiums for people who make below a certain income. For people who buy insurance on the exchanges, a family of four making $88,000 would have a cap of 9.5 percent of their income. Lower incomes would have lower caps. The fine for not having insurance would be a minimum of $695 per person per year, with exemptions for financial hardship and other special cases.

4. Employers will not be required to buy insurance for their employees, but large employers may be subject to fines if they don't provide insurance. But Congress wanted to encourage employers, especially large employers, to offer insurance. So they created a fine for employers with more than 50 workers: If those employees buy insurance on the exchanges and qualify for a low-income credit from the government, then the employer would have to pay a fine. Fines are calculated based on number of employees; for large firms, the fines could be significant.

5. The vast majority of people will not see significant declines in premiums. When President Obama talks about premiums going down, he usually means they won't go up as much as they would otherwise. For the four out of five people who get their insurance through their employer, the savings would land in the 0 to 3 percent range by 2016, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, or CBO. People who buy insurance on their own, but who don't qualify for government subsidies, could actually see their premiums rise by as much as 10 to 13 percent, but that's largely because they'll be getting beefed-up policies that would pay for more basic services, especially preventive care. Low-income people who qualify for new credits to buy insurance would see the biggest drops.

6. The plan might or might not bend the curve on health spending. Critics say there aren't enough provisions to reduce waste or fraud, but Democrats say they're not being given enough credit for new cost-saving pilot programs that could be rapidly expanded. The most recent estimate of the plan, released Thursday by the CBO, said that it would spend $940 billion over 10 years. But new taxes, penalties and cost savings would offset that spending, according to the CBO, so that overall the plan pays for itself, dropping the deficit by slightly $138 billion over 10 years. Obama has said the plan will save more than $1 trillion in the second 10 years, but that estimate, according to the CBO, is highly speculative.

7. The government-run Medicare program will keep paying medical bills for seniors, but it will begin implementing cost controls on health care providers, mostly through penalties and incentives. The legislation would reduce payments for hospital-acquired infections or preventable hospital admissions. For Medicare Advantage, the federal government intends to reduce extra payments, taking away subsidies to private insurance companies. Insurers will likely cut benefits in order to not lose profits. The bill does not address the "doctor's fix," an expected proposal that Congress usually passes to prevent doctors' Medicare payments from severe cuts.

8. Medicaid, a joint federal-state program for the poor, will cover all of the poor, instead of just a few groups the way it currently does. Right now, to qualify for Medicaid, a person has to be poor and also disabled, elderly, pregnant or a child. Under the new plan, all poor adults would qualify.

9. The government won't pay for elective abortions. But under the Senate plan, people will be able to buy insurance that covers abortion on the new health insurance exchanges, as long as the insurance company pays for the services with patient premiums, not taxpayer subsidies. Medicaid has an exemption for cases of rape, incest or the life of the mother.

10. No one is proposing new benefits for illegal immigrants. Some House members had hoped that illegal immigrants would be able to buy insurance with their own money through the new exchanges, but that now appears unlikely.

So what is the great one (Obama) doing that he can not afford the time to go to the NAACP and potentially answer some tough questions regarding what he has not done. Our Doctors group has decided they will not participate in ACA, on legal advice they are not accepting any insurance. the charge cash at medicare rates +10% payable before you leave.

My husband got a letter from his employer yesterday. It appears they changed his pulmonary doctor without any explanation. The doctors and the practice are well know in the area, and has a great reputation. Now, they assigned him to a two doctor practice.

I will find out more today, but this is unusual. Normally they give you a heads up, and they also allow you to pick the doctor. I hope this isn't the new norm.

With the new requirements on actual patient care, no more than 20% to profit/overhead, costs should start to come down now that it is no longer lucrative to deny patient care in order to siphon the premiums to the top in order to give $50 million bonuses.
