You are correct Jim, a year ago pollsters would give the breakdown of their polls by Republicans ,Democrats and Independents, hard to find now, a Washington Post Poll from a few days ago did show Obama up by seven points, slipped up tho and gave the breakdown, which showed they had actually polled 12 percent more Democrats than Republicans, and with only a seven point lead, that was really bad news for the Dems, but it does explain the lack of detail offered in this and other polls.

Well, I clicked on the link to the Reuters poll and found:

The poll of 1,154 adults, including 885 registered voters, was taken between Thursday and Monday. During the period, a weak labor report was issued on Friday that showed sluggish job gains and an unchanged unemployment rate of 8.2 percent in June.

Does that help a little?

And, according to the Qunnipac poll, it's single women, in part, who give Obama the edge.

Driven by a yawning marriage gap, and a 2-1 lead among single women, President Barack Obama gets 46 percent of American voters to 43 percent for Gov. Mitt Romney, largely on the support of singles, according to a Quinnipiac University national poll released today.

Married voters back Romney 51 - 38 percent, while unmarried voters back President Obama 54 - 34 percent, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds. Among married voters, Romney leads 54 - 35 percent among men and 49 - 42 percent among women. Among single voters, Obama leads 47 - 38 percent among men and 60 - 31 percent among women.

@1.4 -

The poll of 1,154 adults, including 885 registered voters

so only 77% were even registered yet? Typically there are citizens eligible to register, then those actually registered, then those who actually show up to vote. Even predicting from "those likely to vote" is iffy.

If you are going to say that a poll shows that 65% agree with Robme, then make it accurate by saying that 65% of the 250 people polled agree with Robme.

If Romney were elected President it would be game over for the environment, as he would repeal regulations the Obama administration has fought for to battle global warming.

It would be game over for the middle class, as Romney believes in giving tax breaks to the wealthiest individuals while cutting spending on student loans, which enable middle income families to send their kids to college.

Do you support doing away with the IRS Code, with complex loopholes, and support a flat tax, no exceptions?

If you dont, then you are full of it when you claim you dont support "tax breaks for the wealthy".

Flat tax is fair and will allow all to pay up...other wise it is just a shell game; take this loophole here, pay off this group over there...endless corruption.

Intersting numbers. So, those groups favoring Obama have polls favoring Obama. Golly, what a surprise. What is more interesting is how an incumbent can do so poorly this late into an election year. Obama has the bully pulpit, he can throw more money at his base, give more amnesty and avoid voter ID's and yet, his numbers aren't really all that great. Especially when you take into account that the pro-Obama polls aren't giving him much of a lead.

      Military Members, Veterans, Military retirees;

please note that Swiss Bank account Romney PROMOTED THE DRAFT during the Viet Nam War,

then skipped out to France for extraordinary length of time when church missionary tours were limited.

When Romney came home, he sided with his dad that the whole Viet Nam War was a scam and that he was against the war.

Promoting the draft, while Americans were dying, he skipped out, then says he wishes he could have participated. His whole life has been a lie.

Romney is a COWARD, Lying, Draft Dodger, who promoted someone else to die for him, that is his way of management.

Some may want anyone but Obama, but this guy ranks with Jane Fonda and should not be given anything or elected for anything.

For those who are not old enough to remember the military draft, it was a mandatory commitment for two years that was implemented during the Viet Nam War. If your number was called, you went and served like it or not. Young people may say, I wouldn't go and they can't make me, think again.

This is what Romney promoted as if he were a "responsible citizen", then he left his fellow citizens to serve and some died for us and him. I am ashamed of him as I am retired military member, and forget about representing our country Mr. Romney.

I am one of the Military members who are against Romney, this has nothing to do with politics.

Bob, the Vietnam war ended in 1975. Romney was born in 1947 which means he was 28 years old at the time it ended. Unless I am mistaken, he was not in a position to "promote" the draft at that time. He might have said he was in favor of the draft (I don't know), but he had no power to promote it. In 1975, he was still in school (Harvard).

You need to brush up on how Obama has/is treating today's military. They hate him because he is so disrespectful of them. Didn't even honor the soldiers who died on D-Day!

Obama has never held a job, never been in the private sector, never been in the military and has no "success" stories to tell. He was a "community organizer". He got his education by listing himself as a foreign student and accepted scholorships on that basis. That is why he won't release his college transcripts.

Obama is the greatest fraud that has ever been perpetrated on the American people. He will say or do anything to get re-elected.

If you love America and want to see us stay free, you will vote him out of office!

This tight one is starting to open up a little bit more in favor of Obama. So, my current Projection: (Currently the states that will continue to play the biggest in November are Michigan, Ohio, Virginia, and Florida and Wisconsin. For now these states are remaining in the toss up status, while leaning toward Obama. However, if the election were held today, Obama would win the general.

The key months for this race are going to be September and October. And as far as the debates, Romney most likely will have a problem in this area, along with his lack of availability to the press/media.

Another issue that will hurt Romney is the battle being waged by the President to raise the taxes on folks earning more than $250,000 a year. This is something that the majority of Americans are for and Romney is against.

For now, the new projected election out come totals are:

            Projected Winner Obama 293

            Projected Loser Romney 244

One of the many problems facing conservatives is an incredibly high percentage of them have severe reading disabilities. In the opinion poll business, it is moderately important that the polling firm find a "representative sample." For political questions, it is important that the pollster contacts some known percentage of Dems, Reps, women, men, registered voters, likely voters, citizens who may register to vote in the future, different levels of education, and different age cohorts.

Unknown to you, and almost all rightwingnutz who cannot read, the polls you seem to think are skewed actually establish a representative sampling. There are more registered Democrats than there are registered Republicans (you could look it up, but that might be a stretch). Therefore, the pollster tries to load the polling sample with a few more self-identified Democrats. This results in a group of respondents who roughly represent the national "average" of different voters. One of the expensive difficulties in the opinion business is that, after the pollster sets up the sample, a significant number of any specific category may choose not to answer or to give answers that are inappropriate. So, a poll may be designed to meet the sampling standards, but result in a mismatch. This is then described as the "margin of error," which represents the post-analysis of the sampling that was off. Unless you have a masters degree or higher in statistics, it is unlikely that your observations mean squat. You are no more qualified to analyze statistical probability than you are to calculate the fly-by vector, velocity, and arrival time of the next category S, K-type asteroid.

Besides, your hyperbole and vitriol are all talking points from the Obama campaign ads, do you have any facts to bolster your histrionics.Fact is, I'd rather have a corporate businessman, and a successful businessman managing the economy rather than a community organizer who follows the leftist/radical redistribute the wealth and nationalize everything mindset. I don't think Romney has an axe to grind or a deep seated antipathy towards all things American.

In the past 10 days or so, international newspapers have widely reported that their own independent polling shows Obama with a lead and his lead increasing. Their editorials have suggested that the US media are deliberately making the race seem closer than it is as a way of driving up readership/viewership and of forcing the campaigns to spend more money on advertising.

"I don't think Romney has an axe to grind or a deep seated antipathy towards all things American."

Not all things American, just the jobs he sent overseas and the American banks that won't hide his offshore earnings. Oh, and gay Americans...he doesn't like them much since they started this whole "I should be able to marry the person I like" thing. And his own health care plan in Mass., that too. Shall I go on?

Yep, ol' stiffy is just starting to get his nose rubbed in his own manure and lies. He should have had a clue what would happen when Santorum, Cain and Gingrich all lead him at one time in his nomination bid. Nobody really wants you,Romney. Take off the mommy jeans and that banana in your pants doesn't help either. Phony lying loser. Obama/Biden by a landslide

Just to hear you people gripe and moan about polls is remarkable. Only 43% of you will vote...................................That's if your registered to vote.

The best poll, the one that's never wrong, the one that all Americans participate in will be held in November.

I only ask this of you. Know for what and for whom you vote. Don't let your vote be bought.

Right... Romney hasn't even gone on the offensive or opened up his war chest to really actually engage Obama. He's not weak or stupid, he's just being patient... If you look back at Carter and Reagan, the polls had them even until about 6 weeks before the election. If you look back at Bush Sr. and Clinton, the polls had them in a dead heat until a month before the election. Obama has already thrown all he's got at Romney and he hardly made a dent in the numbers... Better get used to the idea of a President Elect Romney come November!

              GO ROMNEY 2012!!!

Obama is going to win reelection, which says a lot about the current state of the Republican party. This should have been their election to lose, considering the state of the economy and the fact that Obama hasn't delivered on most of his campaign promises. The fact that Romney was the best candidate they could come up with is pretty pathetic.

Both major party candidates (and all minor party candidates) ARE Americans.
