Obama: Back in Iowa

The Des Moines Register: “President Barack Obama gave Iowans a heartfelt pitch not to abandon him, asking voters ground down by negative TV ads and cynicism to “cut through the nonsense.” “This was a state that gave me a chance when nobody else would,” Obama said today at a campaign event that was part nostalgia, part pep talk and part rallying cry. The president asked Iowans for understanding, saying there’s a stalemate in Washington right now, but this election can change that. “Ultimately, Cedar Rapids, that’s why I’m running for a second term as president, because I believe we can make progress right now that helps you and your families. That’s what I’m going to be fighting for,” he said.”

It's crazy that President Obama, during whose administration two of America's worst enemies were taken down - Bin Laden and Qaddafy, has to even ask for our support for his re-election. It's crazy when you look at where we were when he was elected: facing a Great Depression and where we are now: adding jobs every single month for the last two years, and the Fortune 500 more profitable than they have been in years - it's crazy he even has to ask.

Amy; I agree, unfortunately there are people who never liked President Obama from day 1 and thus regardless of what he has accomplished, will never vote for him.

Add the millions upon millions of dollars the Romeny Superpacs and billionnaires are spending on TV ad, robo calls, etc....which is all some people go on.

President Obama will win the election but it is going to take everyone who supports him to get out and work on the election, make sure people can get out and vote, and importantly make sure voter ID laws do not make people feel like they can't vote.

Amy,

I'm amused at President Obama's supporters such as yourself as you and they continue to make excuses for him, blaming the sluggish economy and high unemployment on Republicans, Greece, the tsunami - anything but him.

Just four years ago, wasn;t it all Bush's fault? Never mind that Bush had to contend with a Demn. Congress his last two years.. Never mind that powerful Dems had oversight over the housing, banking and financial services that failed us. Never mind that Bush is on record haveing warned Congress nunmerous time about the pending housing crisis fueled by risky Freddie/Fannie loans, and the need for increased regulation. Never mind that Bush and the Republican Congress left the new Dem. Congress with a strong economy and 4.6% unemployment.

Nope, none of that mattered to the hop-and-change crowd. It was all GB's fault and Congress was inconsequential. So forgive me if I don;'t shed a tear for an incomopetent president Obama and his inabillity to lead the country with better than a downgraded bond rating, 8.2% unemployment and another $5T in debt after 3 plus years.

After all, if consistency matters, it's all Obama's fault.

So exactly what words did Amy use that lead you to interpret them as "make excuses for him"?

All I see are HER comments supporting HER candidate? What...aren't we allowed to do that anymore?

Vermont Girl,

From reading her various comments, it's clear she is a strong supporter of President Obama, and that's fine.
Everyone should have tyhe opportunity to speak their mind here. Unless you are a supporter of Mr. Romney, then you are sure to be removed for your views if they disrupt the liberals that feel they own this site.

Wouldn't you agree that everyone should have value in their feelings of their candidate?

But shouldn't the quotes of candidates be valid, without personal twisting of the truth? Didn't someone from the MSNBC staff make a correction yesterday, indicating that they misrepresented a comment and corrected it?

Now tell me Vermont Girl, why shouldn't conservatives have a voice here without the negative comments from some of the left?

    Military Members, Veterans, Military retirees;

    please note that Swiss Bank account Romney PROMOTED THE DRAFT during the Viet Nam War,

    then skipped out to France for extraordinary length of time when church missionary tours were limited.

    When Romney came home, he sided with his dad that the whole Viet Nam War was a scam and that he was against the war.

    Promoting the draft, while Americans were dying, he skipped out, then says he wishes he could have participated. His whole life has been a lie.

    Romney is a COWARD, Lying, Draft Dodger, who promoted someone else to die for him, that is his way of management.

    Some may want anyone but Obama, but this guy ranks with Jane Fonda and should not be given anything or elected for anything.

    For those who are not old enough to remember the military draft, it was a mandatory commitment for two years that was implemented during the Viet Nam War. If your number was called, you went and served like it or not. Young people may say, I wouldn't go and they can't make me, think again.

    This is what Romney promoted as if he were a "responsible citizen", then he left his fellow citizens to serve and some died for us and him. I am ashamed of him as I am retired military member, and forget about representing our country Mr. Romney.

    I am one of the Military members who are against Romney, this has nothing to do with politics.

    Hey, I'm a former U.S. Marine and after studying how LBJ and Westmorland perpetrated the hoax of getting us into the Vietnam war and never had any genuine resolve to prosecute the war to a successful conclusion, its obvious that the Vietnam War was a scam... Further, tell me about President Obama's military record... What branch of our armed forces did he serve in? Semper Fi

      @Amy,

      Obama supporters are attacking Mitt for having off-shore accounts.

      Do you find the off-shore accounts of Valarie Jenerette or Debbie Wasserman Schultz's Swiss 401K an issue too? How about asking for more details on both?

        With all the "flavors" of retirement accounts and investment packages available to us...I'd reckon a huge share of us (myself included) have investments in non-US entities - and many don't even realize it.

        I don't think the complaints about Romney (or others) are in reference to "investments". I think the complaints are focused on having Swiss (and other offshore) bank accounts where money is held. This has been a thorn for lots of folks for decades because they felt the accounts were simply to stash money away from the eyes of the IRS. Now in addition to this there is the question of "disloyalty" by a presidential candidate for parking money in non-US banks.

        I think ALL candidates for public office need to use a sensitive eye to remove any appearance of impropriety (or disloyalty) when running for office.

        Lots of things are legal...doesn't necessarily make them appropriate.
