Michelle Obama in Florida: 'We need to keep moving forward'

Orlando, Fla. -- Speaking before a crowd of more than 2,000 Tuesday at the University of Central Florida, First Lady Michelle Obama listed President Barack Obama’s initiatives during his first term – including his recent executive order to stop deporting undocumented immigrants who arrived in the U.S. as children – and said those policies are all “on the line” in November’s election.

“In the end, it all boils down to one simple question. Are we going to continue the change we begun, the progress we made?” Obama said. “Are we going to let everything that we fought for to just slip away?”

“We cannot turn back now,” she added. “We need to keep moving forward.”

The reference to President Barack Obama’s announcement last month that he had moved to block the deportation of hundreds of thousands of young illegal immigrants was perhaps an indication of how crucial Florida – rich in Latino votes – has become in an increasingly tight election.

“He knows and believes that it is time to stop denying responsible, young people opportunities in this country because they’re the children of undocumented immigrants. It’s time to stop that,” Obama said of her husband’s support for the DREAM act, which would offer a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants who have graduated from high school.

The measure has been held up in Congress since 2010.

According to pool reports earlier in the day, Obama made a quick surprise visit to  the Blanchard Park YMCA in a mostly Hispanic neighborhood in Orlando. Many children recognized her – one girl covered her grin with both hands but could not hide it. Another asked for a hug.

At the university, Obama spoke for about 25 minutes inside the basketball arena.  A state fire official estimated there were 2,251 people in the bleachers and on the gym floor.

There was no mention of the president’s opponent, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, or of class and money – prominent themes in the attack ads released by both sides.

Still, Obama made a careful pitch of her husband as an ordinary man, whose origins as the son of a single mother “who struggled to put herself through school and pay the bills” leavens his judgment in office.

“I have seen how as president you are going to get all kind of advice for all kinds of people,” Obama said. “But at the end of the day, let me tell you when it comes time to make that decision as president, all you have to guide you are your life experiences. All you have to direct you are your values.”

"We all know who my husband is, don’t we?" Obama added. "We all know what Barack Obama stands for, don’t we?”

Some of the comments on here speaking against the POTUS and his wife should be collapsed. These comments whether against president Obama or any comments against any sitting president is abuse of the Freedom of Speech admendment. THe racist comments by whites on this blog illustrates why many Blacks respond back with racism but yet we are called Racist. I think not. Blacks aren't racist but when you hear all the racist comments that have been made against this president and his wife it blatanlty reflects the sick minded whites that are still in this country and those they represent in congress. Mitch McConnell's comment should be a banner as a reminder of how Blacks are attacked without any reason other than Hate and racism

Can you even imagine a former governor of Tax-a-chusettes being governor?

How about the CEO of a company that worked to send tons of jobs overseas?

How about a rich guy who has tons of offshore bank accounts?

She was a bank president and Pres Obama spent his life going from one elite school to another...I got that one directly out of HIS autobiographies (See, I'm a Republican, but I do like to see what the other side has to say...I think just about everyone out here should do the same. Agree or disagree after but take a freakin minute to actually put some intelligent thought into things - that goes to the guy making fun of the FLOTUS and any of you Democrats making blanket reference to Republicans as "Right wing nut jobs" "teabaggers" or anything else you can think of...Don't be part of the problem eh?)

Interesting that Romney stands behind a banner "putting jobs first"....why doesn't it say "putting American jobs first"?.....probably because Romeny and GOP don't care about American jobs....so the banner says exactly what they want....jobs overseas...so corporations can pay pennies for products, don't have to pay benefits, don't have safety or health restrictions.

Yep, guess Romeny's banner is accurate for GOP...."putting jobs first"....just not in America.

Bart did you forget to read your own link?  The part that said

Solyndra, which manufactured unique solar panels based on cylindrical cells that didn't require silicon, was once a burgeoning clean energy superstar, attracting more than $1 billion from private investors. In 2009, the Obama administration approved a $535 million loan guarantee that helped the company build a new factory in Fremont, Calif. It became a poster child for the president's stimulus efforts. But in August 2011, the factory suddenly closed, and by September the company had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

        #58.6 - Wed Jul 11, 2012 12:34 PM EDT

Actually did read link. My comment was that Bush FIRST supported Solyndra with loans. Obama continued but Solyndra failed because of competition from China.

Why? China gave a $5 billion GRANT to its companies to build solar powered equipment. The US just gave loans. I think it was right for both Bush and Obama to do all they could to support AMERICAN companies. Sure, some will fail, but it's hypocritical to blame it all on Obama.

Of course, blaming EVERYTHING on Obama is all conservatives know how to do.

The Bush Administration did not give any loans to Solyndra. The loan approved for Solyndra was under the Obama Administration.

That is the 4th lie I have corrected you on in this thread.

Unfortunately, the polls are close, and fundraising is heavily in republican favor, both of which would suggest that PERIOD is likely not a good thing to claim at this point.

just shows how stupid the press and both political parties are about the Latino vote. Those are Cubans in Florida not Latinos and Rubio is not a Latino, doesn't even speak the language. Cubans get special treatment, "foot dry" they are here legal. They screwed up Cuba so bad that a dumb ass like Castro was better than them, of course they were the "bordello" of the Carribbean ran by the mob at that time. Miami is one of the few cities in the US than can compete with California for being totally screwed up and it is all Cuban, so just keep those illegals coming. Maybe once we become a 3rd world country we can get some foreign aid.

Wall Street Journal Sizes Up Obama

A "deadly" article regarding Obama, at the Wall Street Journal, which today

is the most widely circulated newspaper in America.

Article from the Wall Street Journal - by Alan Caruba:

"I have this theory about Barack Obama. I think he's led a kind of make-believe life in which money was provided and doors were opened because at some point early on somebody or some group (George Soros anybody?) took a look at this tall, good looking, half-white, half-black, young man with an exotic African/Muslim name and concluded he could be guided toward a life in politics where his facile speaking skills could even put him in the White House.

In a very real way, he has been a young man in a very big hurry. Who else do you know has written two memoirs before the age of 45? "Dreams of My Father" was published in 1995 when he was only 34 years old. The "Audacity of Hope" followed in 2006. If, indeed, he did write them himself. There are some who think that his mentor and friend, Bill Ayers, a man who calls himself a "communist with a small 'c'" was the real author.

His political skills consisted of rarely voting on anything that might be deemed controversial. He went from a legislator in the Illinois legislature to the Senator from that state because he had the good fortune of having Mayor Daley's formidable political machine at his disposal.

He was in the U.S. Senate so briefly that his bid for the presidency was either an act of astonishing self-confidence or part of some greater game plan that had been determined before he first stepped foot in the Capital. How, many must wonder, was he selected to be a 2004 keynote speaker at the Democrat convention that nominated John Kerry when virtually no one had ever even heard of him before?

He outmaneuvered Hillary Clinton in primaries. He took Iowa by storm. A charming young man, an anomaly in the state with a very small black population, he oozed "cool" in a place where agriculture was the antithesis of cool. He dazzled the locals. And he had an army of volunteers drawn to a charisma that hid any real substance.

And then he had the great good fortune of having the Republicans select one of the most inept candidates for the presidency since Bob Dole. And then John McCain did something crazy. He picked Sarah Palin, an unknown female governor from the very distant state of Alaska. It was a ticket that was reminiscent of 1984's Walter Mondale and Geraldine Ferraro and they went down to defeat.

The mainstream political media fell in love with him. It was a schoolgirl crush with febrile commentators like Chris Mathews swooning then and now over the man. The venom directed against McCain and, in particular, Palin, was extraordinary.

Now, 3 full years into his presidency, all of those gilded years leading up to the White House have left him unprepared to be President. Left to his own instincts, he has a talent for saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. It swiftly became a joke that he could not deliver even the briefest of statements without the ever-present Tele-Prompters.

Far worse, however, is his capacity to want to "wish away" some terrible realities, not the least of which is the Islamist intention to destroy America and enslave the West. Any student of history knows how swiftly Islam initially spread. It knocked on the doors of Europe, having gained a foothold in Spain.

The great crowds that greeted him at home or on his campaign "world tour" were no substitute for having even the slightest grasp of history and the reality of a world filled with really bad people with really bad intentions.

Oddly and perhaps even inevitably, his political experience, a cakewalk, has positioned him to destroy the Democrat Party's hold on power in Congress because in the end it was never about the Party. It was always about his communist ideology, learned at an early age from family, mentors, college professors, and extreme leftist friends and colleagues.

Obama is a man who could deliver a snap judgment about a Boston police officer who arrested an "obstreperous" Harvard professor-friend, but would warn Americans against "jumping to conclusions" about a mass murderer at Fort Hood who shouted "Allahu Akbar." The absurdity of that was lost on no one. He has since compounded this by calling the Christmas bomber "an isolated extremist" only to have to admit a day or two later that he was part of an al Qaeda plot.

He is a man who could strive to close down our detention facility at Guantanamo even though those released were known to have returned to the battlefield against America. He could even instruct his Attorney General to afford the perpetrator of 9/11 a civil trial when no one else would ever even consider such an obscenity. And he is a man who could wait three days before having anything to say about the perpetrator of yet another terrorist attack on Americans and then have to elaborate on his remarks the following day because his first statement was so lame.

The pattern repeats itself. He either blames any problem on the Bush administration or he naively seeks to wish away the truth.

Knock, knock. Anyone home? Anyone there? Barack Obama exists only as the sock puppet of his handlers, of the people who have maneuvered and manufactured this pathetic individual's life.

When anyone else would quickly and easily produce a birth certificate, this man spent over a million dollars to deny access to his. Most other documents, the paper trail we all leave in our wake, have been sequestered from review. He has lived a make-believe life whose true facts remain hidden.

We laugh at the ventriloquist's dummy, but what do you do when the dummy is President of the United States.

              We the people are coming!

I am not hoping for anything and I am not desperate. I know it wil never happen because as much oppression as minorities claim they must face they are given equal and fact even higher chances of changing their situation but they elect to sell drugs, become involved in gangs, commit crimes and have way more babies than what they can support but I guess that is what deperate minorities do.

Age has nothing to do with it Bart. I can watch the news and read the newspapers. I am so sick for someone else to be at fault for every bad thing that has happened to a group. I don't like to go to work everyday and see 1/3 of my paycheck disappear to fund many things that I don't approve of. And I would like to find an easy way out so I didn't have to work to buys the things I have but at a certain point reality and responsibility need to take over and not just with minorities but with everyone who thinks the government owes them a living. Just because they may run in to a bad stretch or whatever don't blame others for your misfourtunes. And I do get out and speak with minority people unfortunately these are working friends of mine and they too are sick of supporting a bunch of lazy, malingering, no goal oriented people who give them and their race a bad image.

And if Reagan allowed amnesty then, does it make it all right for obama to dismantle the immigration laws and infrastructure? Take one side or the other.... straddling the fence only gives you a sore crotch.

The Queen only has a few more months to tell the rest of us how we should feel about the invasion of our borders. Anyone who wants to immigrate should go through the same channels my great-grandfather had to more than a century ago. If you or any of your children got here any other way you must first go back to your country of origin to immigrate properly. Unfortunately, Ronald Reagan set an unfortunate precedent with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Strangely enough progressives are always eager to claim the GOP is racist if they don't instantly 'lay down' when this subject is discussed.

                                        Military Members, Veterans, Military retirees;

please note that Swiss Bank account Romney PROMOTED THE DRAFT during the Viet Nam War,

then skipped out to France for extraordinary length of time when church missionary tours were limited.

When Romney came home, he sided with his dad that the whole Viet Nam War was a scam and that he was against the war.

Promoting the draft, while Americans were dying, he skipped out, then says he wishes he could have participated. His whole life has been a lie.

Romney is a COWARD, Lying, Draft Dodger, who promoted someone else to die for him, that is his way of management.

Some may want anyone but Obama, but this guy ranks with Jane Fonda and should not be given anything or elected for anything.

For those who are not old enough to remember the military draft, it was a mandatory commitment for two years that was implemented during the Viet Nam War. If your number was called, you went and served like it or not. Young people may say, I wouldn't go and they can't make me, think again.

This is what Romney promoted as if he were a "responsible citizen", then he left his fellow citizens to serve and some died for us and him. I am ashamed of him as I am retired military member, and forget about representing our country Mr. Romney.

I am one of the Military members who are against Romney, this has nothing to do with politics.

If he talked about hating Obama, you'd be praising his service.

Bob - Seeing as you lie about Mitt Romney being a Draft Dodger - what else do you lie about?

If it has nothing to do with politics, why aren't you calling out Joe Biden for having 5 draft deferments during Vietnam? Why aren' t you calling out Barack Obama for never serving?

Yes, Biden had the same number of deferments as Cheney.

Romney also had a deferment--but for preaching his Mormonism in France (Should that have really been deferable?) Plus, his disdain for the military is obvious when he stated his sons have better things to do than join.

Why should Obama have joined just for the sake of joining? Vietnam was FAR over by then.

Bart - Mitt Romney was reassigned a 1A draft status in '69 which made him eligible to be drafted based on the results of the 1969 Draft Lottery. His draft number was #300 and he was not called to serve.

Apparently you think less of Mr Romney because he or his son's didn't serve. Aren't you showing what a hypocrite you are by not showing the same disdain for Mr Obama, who did not serve? Or his VP not serving?

When one resorts to that instead of talking about issues, they realize they have nothing to contribute.

                                                    Military Members, Veterans, Military retirees;

please note that Swiss Bank account Romney PROMOTED THE DRAFT during the Viet Nam War,

then skipped out to France for extraordinary length of time when church missionary tours were limited.

Bart and Bob are lying about Mitt Romney.

Mitt Romney was not a draft dodger. Like millions of American's, including Joe Biden, Mitt Romney had student deferments during Vietnam. Also like many other Mormons, Mitt Romney had a deferment while on a mission for the LDS Church. In 1969, Mitt Romney was reassigned a 1A draft status and was eligible to be drafted based on the '69 Draft Lottery. In that lottery his birthday was assigned #300. As he had a high draft number, he was never called to serve.

How much time did Obama, and Clinton serve? While I certainly don't condone dodging the draft, the majority of the people in this country thought the war was wrong. Hell, I don't think it was worth one American soldiers life! The difference, is that while Romney might have disagreed with the war, is was the hippie leftists that called our soldiers "baby killers", "murderers", and spit on them (of course, once they did that, some of these lefties got their ass whooped). Hanoi Jane Fonda, is a prime example of how the left portrays our troops. Need I say more?
