House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) clarified on Tuesday some candid comments reported over the weekend that seemed to suggest lagging enthusiasm for Mitt Romney within the GOP.
Boehner said that he meant to suggest that this November's election would be a referendum on President Obama when he said at a June 30 fundraiser that "the American people aren’t going to fall in love with Mitt Romney" and Romney has some "friends, relatives and fellow Mormons" who will enthusiastically support him, but "95 percent will either vote for or against Barack Obama."
Those comments were first reported by the Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call.
Asked by NBC News this morning whether he wanted to clarify those remarks, Boehner responded: "The point I was trying to make is very simply this, the election in November is going to be a referendum on the president's failed economic policies, they just haven't worked and they really have made it worse so it's going to be a referendum."
"I'm going to be enthusiastic about voting for Gov. Romney in November, and I think the American people will be enthusiastic about voting for Gov. Romney in November," Boehner added, ramping up his positive words toward the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
Boehner additionally pledged to be out on the campaign trail "enthusiastically supporting Gov. Romney."

Well, with Romney at the helm, the nation can look forward to taking weeks off at a time to look for runaway teens in heroin dens. That ought to help improve the economic soundness of the country. Not to mention - we could host the best damn Olympics, ever, in the entire history of the Universe. Speaking of the Universe, we can look forward to outsourcing/offshoring jobs to Mars, Venus and gosh, even Jupiter. Woo-hoo - Go Team Romney.
rukidding - it's really sad when the GOP has to hold Romney up as a leader. I'd be absolutely embarrassed to say he's the best my party can do. Thankfully those of us with clear heads will be supporting a real leader - President Obama.

Our children will learn in history class that this new republican party lost its american way. The leadership of the party will be used as an example of what any free country can not allow in governance. We can thank republicans for bringing "what can not be tolerated" to the forefront of our politics. The dysfunction this new GOP has brought is obviously unhonorable since McConnell's first day montra. Thank you Mitch for teaching future american children what is UNhonorable.

How can this election be a "referendum on Obama's policies" when we are not operating under Obama's policies because they have all been obstructed by the Republican Congress? We are still operating under Republican policies because the Senate has passed almost nothing for the past 2 years.
So if Boehner isn't sobbing that means he's enthusiastic? Rush Limbaugh isn't enthusiastic. He is telling the ditto heads they just have to settle for ABO. That statement implies that only 5% of voters will vote FOR Mitt Romney – how sad !

This is news worthy because the leader of the party himself knows that they have such a crappy candidate that the 95% of the people who show up at the polls are not voting for MittWit, they are voting for/against Obama. In most elections those who do not like the candidate of their party will just not show up. Meanwhile, Dems seem to be increasingly energized by foolish and polarized behavior of the Repubs, thereby increasing Dem turnout. This is getting interesting. Boehner (I mean Bonehead) will suffer for this one.

You've got to give Turtlehead his props over in the Senate. McConnell knows he is a complete whore. Whatever the military industrial complex, the oil companies, the bankers or any of the kingmakers want, McConnell is eager to please. To think that he represents coal miners and so many poor people is just a tragedy. They don't even exist in his world. He is the MOST disgraceful Senate leader we have ever had. He compromises on nothing. He publicly wished the president ill on inaugaration week back in 2009. Everett Dirksen would be ashamed. I can't be too hard on Boehner when I think of the cynical con man from Kentucky over in the Senate.

Representatives terms are 2 years. Boehner is up for re-election this year. Unfortunately his district was drawn to be very conservative, so he will probably be re-elected.

For those who are not old enough to remember the military draft, it was a mandatory commitment for two years that was implemented during the Viet Nam War. If your number was called, you went and served like it or not. Young people may say, I wouldn't go and they can't make me, think again.
This is what Romney promoted as if he were a "responsible citizen", then he left his fellow citizens to serve and some died for us and him. I am ashamed of him as I am retired military member, and forget about representing our country Mr. Romney.
