In Hamptons, protesters converge on Romney fundraisers by air and land

Garrett Haake / NBC

Protesters marched down the beach in New York's Hamptons to demonstrate against the power of deep-pocketed donors over the political process.

SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. – In one of the most sizable shows of force from protestors seen on the campaign trail in weeks, a group of more than 60 demonstrators – backed by air support in the form of a banner plane – staged a protest of Mitt Romney's third and final fundraiser here on Sunday.

The fundraiser, at the beachside home of billionaire industrialist David Koch, was to cap a day of fundraising in New York's tony Hamptons communities that could bring in millions of dollars for the campaign's "Victory" fund. It marked Romney's return to the campaign trail after a week of vacation at his summer home in New Hampshire.

Romney and his guests received a loud – and at times profane – welcome from dozens of protesters representing organizations from Occupy Long Island to Greenpeace, which largely blocked a section of Meadow Lane to shout, "Shame on You!" (and unprintable variants thereof). The protesters waved signs at those who attended the back-to-back fundraisers hosted by Clifford Sobel, the former U.S. ambassador to Brazil, and later, by Koch.

It was Koch, whose net worth Forbes magazine pegs at $25 billion, who drew most of the protesters’ ire. Holding signs that compared the fundraiser's reported ticket price of $50,000 to their annual salaries or even life savings, the protesters decried the power of donors like Koch and his allies over American politics.

When local law enforcement officially cleared the protest, the demonstrators decamped from the street and – in one of the strangest visual moments of the campaign – marched nearly a mile down the beach to Koch's house.

Accompanied by a bass drum, horns and even a tenor saxophone, the ragtag band arrived at the stretch of beach behind Koch's house after a 20-minute walk, where roughly a dozen police, Secret Service and Romney staffers stood on the dunes that marked the line of demarcation between the public beach and Koch's private land, and told the protesters they could go no further.

And so they stayed - chanting, singing, and waving signs as a plane buzzed overhead, pulling a banner that read, "Romney has a Koch Problem. MoveOn.Org." While some protestors shouted obscenities as the security watching them from the dunes above (and from a Coast Guard vessel off the coast), this reporter saw no direct confrontations between protestors and authorities.

The climax of the protest event came when the saxophonist, David Intrator, 55, of New York City, led the protesters in a spotty rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner," which most of the group joined, though some continued to chant slogans as they sang.

Old fat guy - since you are blogging I doubt you are in the elite group of Willard, but a troll. I doubt you are even paid. Willard kept millions in offshore banks: Ireland, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands to name a few. Google it and it's been known he keeps 30+ million in tax free Cayman Island and 3+ million in his swiss account. Yet, he has NOT shared his income tax for this year, opting to request an extension. I can only presume so he can earn more interest.

YET the right wing lemmings would rather have this greedy/selfish/conniving swindler run this country when you all should know he is not in this for the American people. He is in this to protect his own selfish interests. And this is fine with his fellow 1% elitist group. The Koch brothers and Adelson along with other multi millionaires even outside the country are pouring in millions to Carl Roves Super Pac. It's unbelievable that you can use over 100 million in negative ads. GUT feel - because anyone with an ounce of sense should see that those monies will also be used to BUY people that will help their cause in winning the WH. Why are all these ReTHUG governers in several states suppressing voters that would most likely vote Democratic?? Think about it! Because for those of you who continue to support the vile GOP party - obviously it hasn't sunk in that you've been had.

Banner financed by George Soros?

Q: What do the Koch brothers want? A: Continued record profits from fossil fuels. Q: What would Soros want? (Jeopardy music here...)

Also, rightwing simpletons think progressives are against Romney because he's rich. Uh, no, it's about policy. FDR was very rich but his policies were about the rest of the country who were not rich. It's somewhat about how Romney got rich--Vulture Capitalism via Private Inequity--and what he does to keep his riches as well.

It's not illegal to cheat on your wife while she has cancer, but is that they type of person we want as president? It's not illegal to evade taxes by keeping money in offshore accounts (per the Tax Evasion Industrial Complex that only the rich enjoy), and also being secretive about it, but is this the type of person we want as president? Character matters.

From MHP: Republicans are against the mandate. Republicans are against President Obama because [they claim] he is an out-of-touch elitist. Republicans are against outsourcing of American jobs. Therefore they nominated Willard Mitt Romney. WTF?

Mitt Romney's Human Rights Facts:

1. Wants a federal marriage amendment to divorce legally married gay couples.
2. Laughed-off his leading roll in bullying a fellow classmate for being gay.
3. Has donated $10,000 to NOM - one of the most vehemently anti-gay groups.
4. Wants to form a gov. commission to investigate activities of equal advocates.
5. Thinks it's a "burden" that business can't fire LGBT people.

You’ve been a spoiled, self-entitled, kept woman who has had house keepers, nannies, a plastic surgeon and whatever else your husband’s money can buy, so please stop comparing yourself to a REAL stay at home mom, you’re mocking us.

BTW:

There is no evidence that Romney knows how to create more better paying jobs. He’s only demonstrated in the business sector that he knows how to create fewer and lower paying jobs. LOL!!

tonybeeerm

Even these dumba$$ baggers have a hard time defending him.

One would think, but try they must. Sorry about the length (format issues), but this is from a chain Email being distributed among the Teapublican faithful:

Some Interesting Facts about Romney:

Bain Capital, starting with one small office supply store in Massachusetts,

turned it into Staples; now over 2,000 stores employing 90,000

people.

Bain Capital also worked to perform the same kinds of business miracles

again and again, with companies like Domino's, Sealy, Brookstone, Weather

Channel, Burger King, Warner Music Group, Dollarama, Home Depot Supply, and

many others.

He was an unpaid volunteer campaign worker for his dad's gubernatorial

campaign 1 year.

He was an unpaid intern in his dad's governor's office for eight years.

He was an unpaid bishop and stake president in his local church organization for ten years.

He was an unpaid President of the Salt Lake Olympic Committee for three

years.

He took no salary and was the unpaid Governor of Massachusetts for four

years.

He gave his entire inheritance from his father to charity.

Mitt Romney is one of the wealthiest self-made men in our country but has

given more back to its citizens in terms of money, service and time

than most men.

And in 2011 Mitt Romney gave over $4 million to charity, almost 19% of his

income.... Just for comparison purposes, Obama gave 1% and Joe Biden gave

$300 or .0013%.

Mitt Romney is Trustworthy:

He will show us his birth certificate

He will show us his high school and college transcripts.

He will show us his social security card.

He will show us his law degree.

He will show us his draft notice.

He will show us his medical records.

He will show us his income tax records.

He will show us he has nothing to hide.

Mitt Romney's background, experience and trustworthiness show him to be a

great leader and an excellent citizen for President of the United

States.

You may think that Romney may not be the best representative the Republicans

could have selected. At least we know what religion he is, and that he won't

desecrate the flag, bow down to foreign powers, or practice fiscal

irresponsibility. We know he has the ability to turn this financial debacle

that the current regime has gotten us into. We won't like all the things

necessary to recover from this debt, but someone with Romney's background

can do it. But, on the minus side, He never was a "Community Organizer",

never took drugs or smoked pot, never got drunk, did not associate with

communists or terrorists, nor did he attend a church whose pastor called for

God to damn the US.

Holy f-n cow, there is so much wrong with this.

Bain was started by Bill Bain. When Romney was hired on, he negotiated zero risk of his own. Romney doesn't accept earned income and/or donates it to charity (e.g., speaking fees) because EARNED INCOME is taxed at a higher rate than the 13% he paid in his 2010 returns. Ditto on other charity, mostly 10% tithing that all Mormons pay.

But the most outrageous is the claim that Romney is providing his tax returns -- Even Nixon provided three years worth. And of course the trustworthy part. Hahahaha!

Know your enemy, the blind, ignorant Teapublican supporters who will vote for ABO with an 'R' next to his/her name. They believe this BS. Progressives, get out the vote! Those of you in swing states, get out and take three other people with you--and check ID and other requirements first.

They were protesting about deep pockets? Where were they when Obama was in Seattle and had a fundraiser in Medina (you know, that place where Bill Gates lives) and in Bellevue (you know, where all of Bill Gates' employees live), where each plate costs just as much as at a Romney fundraiser? Oh, and then drove back to his plane, closing an entire bridge during rush hour traffic (if you are from this area, and especially if you live on the Eastside, that is a big freaking deal), even though he had a helicopter at his disposal. Yeah. What a friend to the working man. Whatever anyone says about Romney or Obama, they are exactly the same. They both court rich donors, because that is who pays for their commercials and signs. Frankly, I don't see the big deal. These people have the right to support whomever they want, and give their money to whomever they want. My husband is a veteran who served his country in Afghanistan, came home, got a college degree, and hasn't been able to get a job in over a year. Obama hasn't done jack squat for jobs, and it is insulting when terrible jobs numbers come out and he tries to spin it so that it looks like he has done something, when everything is just as crappy as it was before. Awesome. I am tired of trying to figure out which is the lesser of two evils. It would be great if there were actually a decent option in an election for a change. Where is an Abraham Lincoln when you need one?

OldFatGuy: I imagine a good many of them have accomplished as much as they possible could given the fact that the financial deck is stacked against them and Romney wants to make it more unfair. The Kochs are a pariah on the American landscape. They should be relieved of ALL their fortune and made to get real jobs so they can see how "easy" it is for those who work for a living. Romney is just a Koch wannabe who will do and say anything to get elected.

@fuzzybear ,

As a 20 year veteran myself I can understand your frustration with the job piece as it took nearly a year before I was able to find work. The only difference is that I retired in '09 when we were shedding more jobs than making in this country. As for shutting down an interstate, that would have been done REGARDLESS who the president is for security purposes. As for jobs, I look at it from both sides: Giving EVERYTHING he has gone through, I will say the President has done his best to create as many jobs he has in the 27 months of continued growth. Remember he has done this with a republican base that has vowed to do NOTHING to get this country on the right track and EVERYTHING to make him a one term president. The other side is that the president could have done more to make the republicans comply or put them on the spot. In my opinion, doing that would have forced the GOP to do "something" for the country instead of giving them a pass. Just something to think about. Having said that let me address the "fundraising" issue:

I don't believe that they are protesting the "fundraising" issue but rather what the Koch brothers stand for. They are for the same thing the democrats are with the opposite intention. Have the government give them(the ultra rich) all the tax breaks while the poor and middle class pay for everything. Basically the same policies that are in place now. Most people are fed up with the notion that the 1% of this country and literally throw millions and millions of dollars into a "Super PAC" and remain nameless while dwelling in "fear" tactics to distort and manipulate the truth to the uninformed voter in order to achieve their objective. This goes for both sides the only difference is the republicans have been doing it for years (using superpacs) while the democrats are started recently.

As far as the job numbers, I LOVE how republicans can say that these numbers are unacceptable when they have done NOTHING to help create jobs (jobs, jobs, jobs. remember) UNTIL last week. They say the president is a failure on the economy BUT if you look at his numbers since he has been elected, he has created more jobs in less time than ANY president in recent history, since he put in place the regulations on wall street, there is less corruption, golden parachutes AND the stock exchange has grown roughly 5%(ball park figure).

The republicans say he has applied more money to the debt than any president BUT they don't want to admit they are part to blame. Every idea or policy he has propose was paid for(closing loop holes, tax increase for those making over 1 million, cuts in certain programs, etc) yet oppose by republicans AND some democrats over and over again. Yet they don't want you to remember this part.

President Obama has NOT been the "leader" we expected him to be as he allows himself to get bullied and pushed around. This IS an issue with me and it is sad because he has the potential to be a great president in my opinion HOWEVER he he needs to learn to stand his ground and not give in for the sake of "compromise".

To me this election is a no brainer. Given the two candidates we have, Obama is the logical choice. UNLESS Romney shows or produces SOMETHING other than the "standard republican response"(speak negatively, say they have a plan, give no details), I can't honestly see voting for him. I honestly feel in my gut he just wants to be president just to say he did what his father couldn't do. he's not liked by most of the republican base BUT they will vote for him because he's not Obama(there's another reason too that is obvious). What the will come to realize is that Romney has stated clearly who he is for and it's sad that those who he is NOT for THAT vote for him will be asking themselves why IF he wins in November.

The most essential ingredient embodied in the liberty championed by the classical liberal writers of the Enlightenment and beyond, is INDIVIDUAL CHOICE and RIGHT OF EXPRESSION. Bain Capital invests in failing companies (their money) and has a 79% success rate of making profitable.

Profits mean jobs!

Man, you baggers realy need to stop worshipping BAin and the rest of Corporate America as Jesus.

Lots of companies spend their profits on automation and outsourcing (both job killers despite the higher profits) American corporations are sitting on over a trillion in profits right now, and they arent hiring. Therefore your direct coorelation of Profits and jobs is false, sport.

But hey, just keep bowing to kiss the ring azz of your new God ; The Koch Brothers and their idol the Golden Pig

Your source cites folks who won't give their names or who speculate that other people in other groups may be getting paid. And this is what you consider credible evidence? It seems to come from the Faux News School of Journalism where 'a source' is "Some say that......"

Phine - Having cancer will do that to you. You spend so much time concentrating on yourself, your friends and family that some of the crap you see and hear and read that used to make a difference in your life no longer seems to matter. You just have to strain it out. Since almost 8-years have passed since I went into remission, I find my self actually letting some of the crap back in. Kind of freaks me out but I have always been fascinated with history and politics. Be selfish and rest and take care of yourself now. Read the book Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris. It will make you laugh.

What's next, the Obama campaign using Mitt's donors for their campaign quotes? Whoops, already did that too.

Sad that after nearly 4 years and $6 trillion in new debt the only thing liberals and their President have it to try and vilify the other guy.

@TruePatriot, yes, there is so much wrong with what's in that Teabagger e-mail. One of the many LIES that sticks out is the claim that Obama only gave 1% to charity. Maybe that's just a typo there and they forgot one of the digits, but the true figure is 14% --- the Obamas gave FOURTEEN PERCENT of their income to charity (same as Romney), not 1%! Lying seems to be the only way these rightwingers know how to try to win an election. Facts never help them, so they have to lie.

Funny, I don't recall any MSNBC articles about protests at Obama/Binden fundraisers.

Maybe they never happen, or maybe MSNBC chooses to not report on them. ALTHOUGH, I know that Biden was confronted by over 100 angry coal miners in West Virgina last May during a speech, but not from reading about it in MSNBC.

  • Question: What is a Romney?
  • Answer: A tool used by the richest 1% to drill and screw the remaining 99%.
  • Question: Then why are so many people thinking the tool is the right tool for the job?
  • Answer: Well Billy, Americans have difficulty connecting the dots. It's hard for so many to think about cause and effect. They'll buy the tool even if screws them hard and fast with no refund in sight.
  • Note: Obama may not have used his political capital wisely during the first term, but the guy does have a heart and head that are connected and function fairly well. Officially, Romney's Marvel Comic name is: the Jeckler.

It looks as if a lot of very successful people are backing Romney. In case you have been living under a rock we all know the rich have always ruled the world. The cool thing about America is you can become rich by working hard. That's assuming the government doesn't steal (please note Chuck, it's steal not steel) their hard earned money. The richest 10% pay the lion's share of taxes, why aren't you screaming at the 48% of Americans who pay no federal taxes? They are the ones dragging the rest of us down. Obama is a failure and he only won because of the anti-Bush sentiment. I think any Democrat would have won in 2008.

So many of you talk about the Republicans plotting against Obama and their vow to make him a one term president. The losing party always wants their party to win back the White House. The way some of you talk the Republicans should have kissed Obama's butt when he won. Don't you think the Democrats will plot against Romney when he wins?

If 48% of Americans aren't paying Federal tax (that's only one tax Americans pay) then it is because they don't make enough money to do so - no matter how hard they work. Chump change in comparison to people like Romney who pay 14% on unearned millions of dollars a year, or 0% on money they hide off-shore.

Some posters here seem heck-bent on chasing the poor, elderly and disabled for tax revenue. I think it makes much more sense to ask the super rich to share the same tax burden we face.

Although that seems like common sense to many, the matter has been overcomplicated by those who intend to keep the status quo. Tax fairness seems like the easy part to me. The real question is where to cut expenses. This is where the real fight should lie.

Here's something to chew on. Forbes has come out with the list wealthiest politicians. 60% of them are Democrats. You think they don't have tax shelters? Think again. Romney donates huge amounts of money to charities and causes, not counting what he gives to his church. Do you think it's wrong for him to keep some of HIS money for HIS family? He took NO salary as Gov. of Mass. and NO salary for his work for heading the Olympic Committee. He also donated his inheritance from his father. Yeah..real shady, greedy guy, isn't he? Any money he has now he EARNED, and he risked his OWN money in investments. Unlike Obama who risks OUR money on already dead in the water Solyndra. But what are friends for? Wrong John. Romney makes $57,000 a day from his investments so I really don't think he has ever had one single day concerned and bothered about how the middle class and working public is doing. Romney has shipped jobs overseas and he is on video saying that President Obama does not know how to ship jobs overseas. Romney has bankrupted companies while making huge profits for himself and his shareholders. He and his wife have stashed billions of dollars in Bermuda, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Ireland and the Cayman Islands. None of these Blind Trusts have been disclosed in Romney's tax returns.

Where did you get your $57,000.00 a day figure? Do you have a crystal ball...better check it, I think it's cracked. FYI, Romney and his company have RESCUED companies, restructured them and many are now thriving, expanding, and creating thousands of jobs. Ever hear of Burger King, Staples, and scores of other familiar named companies and enterprises? Your post is 100% not accurate. Yes, some are elderly but it does NOT include children. It includes tax credits TO PARENTS who have children. It is NOT my problem that someone opted to have children. Poor planning does not equate to a tax break, if you cannot afford kids, then don't have them.

Additionally, the % of people who don't pay Federal Income taxes are ONLY on tax-filing Americans which would dictate does NOT include children. The number also is not from Fox news, it is from a non-partisan group that has been reporting it for decades.

In ending, I don't care if you make $1000/year, you should pay a minimum FED tax even if it is 1%....life is not free and I'm tired of paying $30k/year in FED Income taxes to support people who clearly should pay something, ANYTHING.

That is always the way, The ones that do all the taking leave the mess for the taxpayers. Romney bought company's and stole the retirement fund, and walked away leaving guess who with the bill, that's right, us the taxpayers. These people would starve to death if they weren't allow to steel there fortunes. None of these people know how to make a honest dollar. Koch's bribe people like Scoot Walker and in return for their donations, get control of WI power plants, And all the wood they want for free for there paper company's. In terms of Obama's pet billionaires, everyone is familiar with Soros and Buffet. You all may be less familiar with George Kaiser.

George Kaiser, an Oklahoma billionaire, invested $400 million in Solyndra through an investment vehicle connected to his family foundation. Kaiser was a "bundler" for Obama's 2008 campaign, raising between $50,000 and $100,000 for the president, records show. He also made multiple visits to the White House in the months just before the company was granted a $535 million loan from the government. The company then went bankrupt, putting 1,100 employees out of work.

MARY: Keep dreaming. Romney was BORN TO WEALTH. His father was not only a 2 time Governor but the head of American Motors and other companies. Willard went to the finest schools and had every advantage in th book. Yes, he did go out and make ever more money on his own. Unlike you, I don't think that warrants a medal for him.

The Right is always calling Obama an "elitist" which is ludicrous. I can think of few others who are more elitist than Romney and he proves it every time he opens his mouth. "I have friends who own Nascar teams" "I'll bet you ten thousand dollars", mocking a group of fans at a Nascar race for wearing plastic ponchos "hey I'll be you folks really sprang for the big bucks on those ponchos" and a thousand more.

@Ozzie - Romney was BORN TO WEALTH

Inheritance is irrelevant; a new President "inherits" the wealth of the entire nation. What he does with it defines his success ... or failure. Romney multiplied his inherited wealth; Obama squandered ours.

Kannin -- Perhaps it's time put a law in place that says anyone donating to a campaign can never, ever be allowed to do business with the government. Then there will be no idiots screaming about the appearance of cronyism. Emphasis on appearance and idiots.

BTW -- Romney got in rich part by taking advantage of a loophole that allowed him to pay only 15% taxes on all his income.

@Dont_carry_it_all "Romney got rich in part by taking advantage of a loophole that allowed him to pay taxes at a rate of 15%"

According to IRS.gov "Capital gains and deductible capital losses are reported on Form 1040, Schedule D (PDF). If you have a net capital gain, that gain may be taxed at a lower tax rate than your ordinary income tax rates. The term "net capital gain" means the amount by which your net long-term capital gain for the year is more than the sum of your net short-term capital loss and any long-term capital loss carried over from the previous year. Generally, net capital gain is taxed at rates no higher than 15%"

          That is hardly a "loophole"

There's nothing wrong with success, I applaud it in most cases. It's about how you get there that matters. If your path to success includes harming other people, like selling defective or tainted products, selling harmful products, slashing companies apart leaving people jobless and without pensions they were promised, then I have no respect for you. Mitt Romney falls into the last category, and thus, is a man without honor.

Thank goodness Romney is so far behind on the electoral map and in swing state polls. He's poisonous to our country. The good news is we will never know how much worse he'd make things because he'll never be president.

Go read up Kannin, Romney uses the carried interest loophole.

Private investment companies, organized as hedge funds or private equity firms, have recently grown into major economic forces in the U.S. economy. They mobilize capital, and often leverage it with borrowed funds, in order to accumulate a tremendous amount of assets under their management. These investments include leveraged buyouts; market-neutral investment strategies in publicly traded stocks and bonds, energy, and other commodities; various arbitrage strategies; as well as many lesser known and some entirely unreported transactions. Hedge funds are big players in the large corporate take-over activity that reached $3.6 trillion in 2006¸ and they are also responsible for a significant share of trading volume on the major stock exchanges and in some over-the-counter derivatives markets.

These private pools of capital are unregulated, or exempt from Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulation, under both the Investment Advisors Act and the Investment Company Act. While these exemptions were once justified on the grounds that such investment firms were small, closely held, and did not raise their capital in public capital markets, the exemptions are no longer consistent with today’s reality. Today these firms are huge, have a wide number and range of investors, and the Internet has blurred the distinction between public and private marketing.

In addition to being unregulated, these financial institutions also reap substantial benefits from special tax provisions that, like the regulatory framework, are no longer appropriate. The professional fund managers of these hedge funds and private equity firms are allowed to treat a substantial portion of their compensation as capital gains, meaning they are most likely taxed at 15% rather than the 35% rate that applies to ordinary income such as wages and salary. Such an exemption, however, makes little sense: in economic terms, the fund managers (also known as investment advisors) perform a professional service, much like lawyers or doctors, and receive remuneration for their labor.

These investment advisors and hedge fund managers can take advantage of this tax structure because they are often compensated through a scheme that, in part, pays them according to the returns on the fund. The industry standard for hedge fund managers is “two and twenty,” which is shorthand for an “overhead” fee of 2% of capital under management plus carried interest (often called a “carry”) of 20% of the returns on the fund. Thus a $100 million fund earning 20% would pay its fund manager $2 million for overhead and $4 million in carry. The carry portion of their compensation is treated under the tax code as capital gains for the fund manager and is taxable at the much lower capital gains tax rate of 15%.

This policy memo focuses on this special tax break, explaining why it is not economically sound and offering reasonable estimates of what it costs the U.S. Treasury and ultimately other tax payers in terms of lost tax revenue......

Congress has the opportunity to correct a bad economic policy and free up resources to fund better priorities. This analysis points to the need to update the nation’s tax laws dealing with private pools of capital. The current law is generating inefficiencies and great inequality by granting tax breaks to individuals who do not need and do not deserve such favors. The nation has greater and more deserving priorities. If the amount of tax revenue lost to private equity firm managers is equivalent to that lost with hedge funds, then the combined amount would be $12.6 billion. This forgone revenue stream could, for example, fully fund the five-year, $35 billion expansion of SCHIP, the public health insurance program for low-income children.

I'm not sure about the other contributors to Romney, but I work for Marriott International and know that the unfounded statement about Richard and Bill Marriott wanting foreign labor at slave wages is a disgusting lie. Those 2 men take great effort to ensure that the employees are not only paid very well, but are also taken care of both inside and outside of their place of employment. I have worked in the food and beverage industry for over 20 years and have never worked for a better company that is more caring about their employees.

In many of the hotels, the associates are fully paid benefits for themselves, their spouse or partner (yes, they are completely accepting of gay marriage) and up to 2 children. There is profit sharing accross the board for employees and their benefits packages are among the elite in the food and beverage industry.

Please stop with this partisan garbage, both sides!! It is disingenuous and dispicable at best. Not only do many people on the vine parrot information of which you know nothing about, you scream it all over these boards as if it is fact. We all need to start being part of the solution and stop contributing to the problem.

I have often stayed at Marriott's and it is, in fact, my preferred chain, because it seems that the employees are all happy at their jobs, unlike many of the other so-called 'elite' chains. Staying at a place where people hate their jobs makes for an unpleasant environment, not matter how plush the surroundings. So Mr Marriott is a decent man. I will happily agree to that, as it certainly agrees with my own experience. But perhaps you need to pay attention to what some of Governor Romney's other campaign contributors think of you:

One of Mitt Romney's donors, who would not disclose her name said, "I don't think the common person is getting it. Nobody understands how Obama is hurting them. We've got the message. But my college kid, the baby sitters, the nails ladies everybody who's got the right to vote, don't understand what's going on. I just think if you are lower income - one, you are not as educated, two, they don't understand how it works, they don't understand how the system works, they don't understand the impact."

A Vanity Fair article published revealed that Mitt Romney has heavily invested in foreign tax havens, raising questions about whether he's ever avoided paying U.S. taxes. We already knew that he had a Swiss bank account until just last year, and that he still owns a mysterious corporation in Bermuda. The article notes that Romney's finances are "deeply entangled" with Bain Capital, including investment funds in the Cayman Islands. We don't know all the details because he won't follow precedent by releasing his tax returns, raising a lot of questions about his finances that Americans deserve to know the answers to.

Long story short, in order for the US to acquire this information from the Cayman Islands it must directly accuse Gov. Romney of criminal tax evasion or get his permission to view his records.

Somehow I don't think either is going to happen right now. If he is accused then he will claim it's all a political plot by President Obama and the Democrats. If he is asked, all he has to do is say "no."

"there's upchuck with that old liberal bigot standby - the race card"

The sad truth is that there are a majority of people out there, republicans AND democrats that won't vote for Obama simply because he looks "Black". Me personally, I believe that because he is interracial is the main reason.

On a side note, In my opinion, Because he IS who he is, that's why he has been the most disrespected President in history not to mention it would be "un-American" (given our history of racism)to have a man of color not ONLY institute the passage of Health Care reform for the Country(something no president could do in 50 years of attempting) BUT possibility be one of the most successful presidents of our time......AGAIN just my opinion.

Hey PC/not- 1. How many people do you know with numerous off-shore bank accounts-why Mitt has them is obvious to me, even if he refuses to release his tax forms.

                    2. How many people do you know who took a 77,000 dollar business expense for a dressage horse? Unless he's riding that bad boy to work, in my opinion, that's no business expense.

                    3. Romney's company ( Bain Capitol) has been indentified as a "Pioneer" in outsoucing American jobs to foreign countries, like China and India. ( Romney's campaign called"foul" and said he wasn't outsourcing, but "off-shoring", just like his money,no?).

I am truly amazed when I read about conservatives defending this guy. He's completely out of touch with the American people. The man is arrogant,a liar, and wouldn't know how to take a stand on something if his life depended on it. I'm sure there are some intelligent conservatives out there; I just haven't heard any.

Bill - It's a sad truth. One that I can attest to as I've heard many say it from their own mouth and were quite frankly happy and proud to say it so it's not a "game", it's reality.

On a side note I, like you(I hope) would love to live in a world where race wasn't an issue but when you look at the jobless rate in this country, It's kinda hard not to scratch your head and wonder.

Mitt does have a problem...he is certainly out of touch with the mainstream (and I have personal proof), and his only hope is to fool enough voters to convince them he is there "for them". While the profanity may be uncalled for, it's understandable...people are struggling and suffering, except for people like Koch.

And while it may be convenient to summon up Soros as the convenient bogeyman, it doesn't change the status quo. Housing is still in a slump, and Congress can't seem to figure out how to govern. While Obama should shoulder his share of the blame, there are 538 individuals in the Hill that haven't exactly sparkled.

                        Hey PC/NOT

Romney has been in the real world

Let me sum up how Romney economics works:

Romney and his partners bought companies across the United States, often loading them up with debt in the process.

Too often, they slashed pensions, benefits, and jobs, while paying themselves and their shareholders straight from the debt they'd accumulated.

Because of that debt, several of these businesses went bankrupt, leaving workers without jobs, without pensions, and without health care -- all while Romney and his partners walked away with millions.

Everyone understands that businesses rise and fall -- and sometimes fail -- and no one is challenging Romney's right to run his business as he saw fit or questioning private equity as a whole.

But when a handful of people make a fortune by putting thousands out of work and bankrupting once-healthy businesses, it's legitimate to question whether those are the values America needs in a president -- and whether those are the values that will create an economy built to last, with a strong, secure middle class.

On the campaign trail, Mitt Romney claims that what he and his partners did is the very best of what capitalism can be. He claims to know how to create jobs based on that experience, but even his former partners admitted their business was never about creating jobs -- it was about creating wealth for investors.

Just listen to the workers of GST Steel: Mitt Romney came in, ravaged it with debt, and it ended up filing for bankruptcy. 750 workers lost their jobs and health care, and Romney's managers left their pension fund $44 million short. The 113-year-old steel mill closed its doors, and Romney's company made a 150% profit on their initial investment.

As RomneyEconomics.com shows, stories like that happened time and time again. That approach, where a few people do very well no matter what the cost to others, is the last thing we need in a president.

Romney's economics would be a disaster for the middle class. We can't afford an economy where even when the company fails, the financial wizards walk away with millions, while the workers who have invested years growing the company are left holding the bag. That won't make our economy -- or our country -- stronger.

Dunkin donuts?, maybe Raynolds? or Fairchild / Midland? Between just the few Ive named - saved Tens of thousands of jobs. If you knew ANYTHING about what your trying to talk about - you would know that Bain Capitol only got involved with businesses that were sinking, they saved most and usually bought some time for the ones they couldnt. Why dont you do a little studying BEFORE you post - that way you wont look like such a boob

Mitt Romney talks a lot about his time as a corporate buyout specialist, but you know what we don't hear very much about?

His experience as governor of Massachusetts.

That may be because he made promises to the people of his state during his '02 campaign that sound an awful lot like the ones he's making to the country today -- and he failed to deliver on them.

Just like now, he claimed his success in the private sector meant he'd be able to create jobs, cut taxes, and bring down the debt. He did the opposite.

Even as the rest of the country was enjoying a brightening economy, during Romney's term, Massachusetts plummeted to 47th out of 50 states in job creation; manufacturing jobs declined at twice the national average; and for the first time since 1995, its unemployment rate was above the national average.

Long-term debt ballooned by more than $2.6 billion -- leaving the people of Massachusetts with the highest per capita debt of any state in the nation. State spending increased every single year, and Romney raised taxes and fees by $750 million per year -- leading to a higher state and local tax burden of $1,200 for every Bay Stater. Over his term, fees at public colleges skyrocketed by 63 percent, and during his first year, K-12 schools saw the second-largest percentage cuts, per student, in the nation.

All that in just four years.

Mitt Romney promised more jobs, less debt, and smaller government for Massachusetts based solely on his experience as a corporate buyout specialist. Turns out that being good at maximizing profits for yourself and your investors, but leaving companies bankrupt and workers without jobs, doesn't exactly prepare you to lead a state -- or a country.

Yet Romney's out there making the same empty promises all over again. And we've got to make sure no one buys it this time.

The bottom line? Romney Economics didn't work for Massachusetts then, and it won't work for America now.

Witchking - Romney has demonstrated that he can take an organization that has been mismanaged into bankruptcy by leaders like Obama, and make it prosperous once again. His success rate has been nothing short of miraculous.

Equally noteworthy is the fact that he never blames the previous management for difficulties – he just fixes what is wrong. The US desperately needs an experienced, mature and innovative President like Romney.

                        Witchking

Of the 8 Companies the left has targeted as examples of Romney Greed, Two are listed under both names, Of those listed. Actually all of them still exist in some form including Damon! That's right.
Only one actually totally failed, and GS Steel. Two years after the Georgia Plant was closed a company bought the plant and now is profitable operating.

all companies, except Dade-Behring were failing or failed.

Bain may put the majority of the money into a company, but typically works to owns less than
20% of on-going investments. This is not enough to control a company. Federal Laws make it that 20% share holders are entitled to sit on the board of a company. What Bain does occasionally do is act as a paid consultant to assist when asked.

Bankruptcy is pretty common in businesses when things don't go as planned. Is it bankruptcy ideal? No, but sometimes the way things are structured makes bankruptcy the only way to make a successful major
                        change.

Romney left Bain in 1999 to run the Salt Lake Olympics (bankrupt) and turned it into a huge profitable success. He returned to Bain, but left again in early 2001 to run for Governor of Massachusetts. Anything that happened after he left especially 1 year after he left is probably not his responsibility.

Here's the analysis on the list of targeted Companies, what they do, and what really happened.

                        a) AMPAD - Profit: $102 million - Bankrupt: 2002.

                        – a business and professional paper supply company. Ampad was purchased and dumped by Mead inc. Ampad under Bain had grown to over half of the business supply through a series of acquisitions -
bigger than Mead who had sold them. To make the aquisitions a large amount of debt was accumulated. By 2000 the computers replaced much of the need for such materials. With the market for these items shrinking, sales dropped and still bearing costs of the acquisitions forced them to declare bankruptcy
to re-organize and downsize. Is it really a failure? NO. Bankruptcy for purposes of re-organization saved the company and made it profitable again. Ampad though the years has never been a big profit maker since 2000 because of the continuing advances of electronic media. The unimpressive performance has made Ampad bought by 3 different companies in the last 10 years.

                        b. DDI CORP - Profits: $36 million - Bankrupt: 2003.

Circuit board manufacturer. Bain cut payroll to make the company profitable, but also purchased other companies as it grew (that is what the “loading up with debt” was all about). Since the
Bankruptcy organization DDI has stayed profitable and recently was bought by another Circuit
board maker to “Balance” their Chinese Production.

                        c. DAMON CORP - Profits: $1.5 million - Bankrupt: 2009.

Medical Testing Corporation – found to be engaging in Medicare Fraud with the Federal Government. Sorry, Romney was no longer with Bain by 2001. The charges came in later years and No Charges were ever pursued with Bain. The reason Bain was not charged is because Bain limits their involvement to a investor that is not involve in the day to day operation. Bain sold the company to another company who closed Damon corps main facility.

                        d. DADE BEHRING. Profits: $365 million - Bankrupt: 2002.

Medical Test Equipment manufacturer and more. Created in 1997 by Bain as part
of a $440 Million deal merging Dade International and Behring Diagnostics. At the time they had 6400 employees. There was a attempt to expand to Puerto Rico with government funds, but the expansion may have been the final blow to lead them file for chapter 11 Bankruptcy in 2002. But by 2006 Dade Behring
(with BAIN on board) still with over 6000 employees had grown to be the #1 international manufacturer of Medical Testing Equipment before being bought by a German company called Siemens.

                        e. STAGE STORES. Profits: $100 million - Bankrupt: 2000.

Once again, the simplicity hides the whole Truth. Stage Stores was formed out of two failing retail chains. Bain backed it with a load of money, put a management team together, then worked itself to owning only 15% by selling stock. The packaging was great so Stage Stores started of with a big bang and expanded rapidly. The management team, while still profitable, over expanded and was caught in a retail collapse in 2001 and filed Bankruptcy along with it’s 3 largest competitors. Stage Stores became so profitable, that it has since reopened many stores it had closed by purchasing a competitor who had bought a large number Stage Stores that had to previously abandoned.

                        f. GS INDUSTRIES. Profits: $65 million - Bankrupt: 2001.

Better known as GS Steel and World Wide Grinding.

One of the few actual total failures by Bain. Bain tried to do everything right. They came in streamlined the company and made a large profit quickly. Steel began to suffer from stiff foreign competition with more
modern and efficient equipment. So the profits didn’t last. Bain re-invested in modernization with Federal help, but the profits still were not returning as before. They bought the Georgia Steel Company to obtain
seasoned management and the ability to cut costs by consolidating administrative, sales and management staffs. One year after acquisition, the manager quit and left with his golden parachute in early 2000. Bain tried to find management who understood the steel business but failed to find anyone and in 2 years GS had run up a $553 Million dollar debt and GS was closed by Romney’s successor. Two years later, the Georgia plant was purchased by a new investor an is operating profitably today.

                        g. DETAILS. Profits: $93 million - Bankruptcy: 2003.

I had to scratch to find this one a bit. No real verifiable facts under this name other than Bain expanded “Details” by buying a Colorado based circuit board maker to in 1997. Then I found that Details was another name for Details Inc, and Dynamic Details Incorporated also known as DDI. Whoever your sources
are don’t really care about all the facts, just the ones that they can use to make someone look bad. See
                        DDI above please.

                        h. WORD WIDE GRINDING. Profits $16.5 million - Bankrupt: 2001.

Ditto for this one too. World Wide Grinding was the Kansas City
Steel company and the Kansas City that was merged into GS Steel. At the Time of
                        merger,
WWG was still profitable, but headed to read ink.

guess you missed out on all the companies Romney saved, ever heard of Staples? Dunkin donuts?, maybe Raynolds? or Fairchild / Midland? Between just the few Ive named - saved Tens of thousands of jobs.

So you can list a few companies that actually survived the capital-sucking depredation of Bain? All of those were in business before being "Bained", somehow they survived, then managed a comeback after being spun off from Bain. Not really "creating jobs", more like failing to destroy jobs in a few cases.

Bain didn't do the type of venture capitalism that actually creates new corporations and new jobs. Bain did vulture capitalism that drains as much money as possible from undervalued companies that they bought control of, cheaply.

                        PC/NOT,

You attack someone for not knowing about Mitt's time at Bain (which if you look at the companies that were "saved" it was done by slashing jobs, closing stores and cutting benefits) and then you tell us that President Obama quadrupled the debt? Where'd you fish that lie from? If what you said were true, the national debt would be $44,000,000,000,000.

It's such a good feeling to know how bad you'll be feeling the night of November 6th. Romney has no viable path to 270 electoral votes and thus will fizzle into obscurity by the end of this year.

                        DB Akron,

I can personally attest to what Bain does to companies. I work in the mattress industry, and the company I worked for was Mattress Discounters. After Bain bought both them and Sealy (Bain was under Mitt's "leadership" at the time), Sealy went bankrupt once, Mattress Discounters twice. Bain closed half of our stores, cut 60% of our employees (many good friends of mine) and cut and run as soon as a private investor ponied up enough for what was left of the company. Bain did a lot of damage to the mattress industry, damage from which it is still recovering, but only recovering because Bain isn't part of it anymore.

CM says "So you can list a few companies that actually survived the capital-sucking depredation of Bain?"

"After examining 77 Bain investments made between 1984 and 1999, the [Wall Street Journal] found that 22% of the companies declared bankruptcy or closed within eight years of Bain's initial investment. And poor performance led Bain to forfeit its investment in another 8%.

But there were notable successes, including pizza chain Dominos and office supplier Staples.

Typical private equity funds only receive a fraction of the winnings from their successful deals. The rest goes to investors.

But the winnings were so large that Romney earned millions.

The Journal estimates that for those 77 deals, Bain generated about $2.5 billion on investments of $1.1 billion. Overall, Bain posted gains of 50% to 80% over the period."

Considering he started with failing companies, a 70% success rate is spectacular! Just as he led Bain to success, so too can he lead the US back to greatness. He clearly also has the toughness to cut failing programs and fire deadwood to accomplish it - Toughness and excellent judgment is what the US needs right now!

They mobilize capital, and often leverage it with borrowed funds, in order to accumulate a tremendous amount of assets under their management.

They privatized profits, with little personal risk, and socialized all losses. The taxpayer picked up the tab.

When will Willard Romney offer solutions? When will he talk about himself and his policies instead of just Obama and his policies?

Imagine if we still used Pony Express because of some out dated rule. Someday it has to stop if not making money. Stopping Saturday delivery will cut 20% of labor costs.

                        Get it done.

Yeah, and how will that help struggling businesses and individiuals who can't afford to pay UPS or FED Ex to send a Christmas card? Any civi8lized country needs a government postal service. esides which what do you think will happen to our unemployment rate when these job losses of postal workers laid off are added to the fired police, teachers and other local government employees who provide services to ordinary citizens bu who have lost their jobs so the ideologuees in the Repug Potty can smugly claim theyslashed government spending. You are a total fool if you think the answer is just "cuittingn 20 percent of labor costs" and everything with the Postal Service will be hunkey dorey. You don't deserve the right to vote.

You are in dire need of a liberacy and history comprehension test. The Postal Service is Not profitable bec ause it's revenues have been raided time and again by other federal government oiperatives: Thanks, politicians. I hope you are the first to sufer when you find out you aren't going to \get your mail or be able to send it off for a mere 45 cent stamp. This country is going backward every day the Repugs have any say so about our country and its policy. Get rid of all the Rethugs in 2012. Restore the House and Senate plus the White House to the Democrats or see America become even more unliveable for ordinary, hard working middle class Americans.

Why would anyone vote for someone so out of touch. Romney knows that if Americans had any brains they would know he has nothing to offer us. I say we never vote for another millionaire.

Becoming world-class at anything takes a huge amount of training, experience, and natural aptitude. Governing a country is no exception. It should have been apparent at the outset that Obama could no more be an adequate president than he could be a chess grandmaster, or a symphony conductor.

Choose an “average American” at random. Chances are that he or she would:

Cause an NFL team to lose if playing quarterback

Sound awful playing a violin solo with the Philadelphia Symphony

Be quickly checkmated by a Russian chess grandmaster

Hurt the country's economy and world position if chosen as President.

The point is that becoming world-class at anything takes a huge amount of training, experience, and natural aptitude. Governing a country is no exception. Romney has demonstrated that he is truly extraordinary at planning, organizing, negotiating, etc. Everything, in fact, that is required to be a world-class US President. If that makes his personality a little inaccessible to the common man, that is understandable … and acceptable.

Romney has demonstrated that he is truly extraordinary at planning, organizing, negotiating, etc. Everything, in fact, that is required to be a world-class US President.

Romney has demonstrated an extraordinary talent at making himself rich by scheming, manipulating and taking advantage of loopholes in the law. His "success" in the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics consisted mainly of hiring a lobbying firm to get nearly a billion from the Federal Government. Not exactly a formula that will help the US Government.

More telling is Romney's "success" as Governor of Massachusetts. As Wichking posted:

Political experience is different than business experience, and Romney's political experience is most unimpressive.

If that makes his personality a little inaccessible to the common man, that is understandable … and acceptable.

We might overlook that cold standoffish "out of touch" personality, if his record promised great things as President - but it doesn't. Romney's "inacessible" personality is a liability, not an asset, for a job that requires diplomacy and tact. Romney made a bad governor and would be a worse President.

Romney supports, by his own words, disruption of President Obama's supporters. He should therefore find no problem with demonstrators protesting his association with those attempting to buy the presidency. Romney and his ilk have no plan other than an expansion of tax breaks for the likes of the Koch brothers, Sheldon Adelson, and the Donald Trumps of the world. Even the leaders of Romney's own Party, the GOP, are confessing they have no alternative but to hold their collective noses and vote for this guy. But then Republicans are known for Party first, instead of country first. They've certainly got their man in Romney.

PC: Clueless as ever. What you fail to recognize, thought it's staring you right in the face is that the "Hollywood Elite" along with George Soros and Warren Buffett are VOTING AGAINST THEIR OWN BEST INTERESTS. While the scumbags attending this little junket are INVESTING their money in the hopes of winning big returns.

What does the Hollywood crowd expect to receive from supporting Obama other than higher taxes??? And the same for Soro and Buffett. They are supporting the person they feel will do the most good for this country, not their own selfish, greedy interests. That's what REAL PATRIOTS do. They are not thinking about themselves every single god damn minute.

The monumental HYPOCRISY lies with simpletons like you. Time to get an education.

They will NEVER see the likes of Obamanocare in their neck of the woods because they will have enough money to bypass everyone else on the waiting list for healthcare.

Now that's just being obtusely silly. Neither Soros nor Buffet are the richest, they've already been "surpassed", and an increase in tax rates wouldn't "make sure no one else surpasses them". Moreover, they will be just as subject to "Obamacare" as everyone else, though they certainly have no trouble paying for health insurance and certainly wouldn't need (or get) a subsidy to pay for it.

But there is a "method in their madness". Soros and Buffet are both investors, their wealth is tied directly to the success of the whole economy, so they're backing the one they think will boost the overall economy the most. Even with a higher tax rate, a booming economy will benefit their bottom line. In a similar way, the "Hollywood elite" know a booming economy means more leisure spending, thus more ticket sales and more income for them, in spite of higher tax rates.

The businesses of the Koch Brothers, on the other hand, do not depend on the whole economy growing, so they're favoring the one who will eliminate restrictions on their polluting industries thus cutting their compliance costs, cut their tax rates, give them fat Government contracts, squelch labor unions, maybe even cut minimum wages to boost their profitability. The failure of the rest of the economy does not concern them at all.

All one can gleen from its table of contents level of detail is basically that Romney wants to double down on trickle down; Lower taxes for the Corporations and the wealthy, moving backwards on healthcare with NO SOLUTION to replace it and hoping it all magically trickle down to you.

                          FAIL

The protesters democrat or republican, that act with no class while screaming obscene chants only make themselves look like idiots. I have always been a independent but I have never seen so much hate as I have with the democrats in the last two elections. Don't get me wrong Repubs have acted like idiots too but these guys are taking it to another level. Do they really think that they are going to accomplish anything.

DR: You've never seen so much hate as that coming from Democrats??? Guess you've never been to a Tea Party hodown?

What do you suggest a group of common citizens do to fight a group of the quite literally the most powerful and corrupt citizens of this country??? Had I been there, I would have had more than a few choice words for the Koch Gangsters and their hired goon squad.

Ozzie....from your claim it is pretty evident that you have never been to one either. They are pretty docile events where people sit around and talk policy, clean up after each other and talk about solutions for the US. They don't spout hate. That is the propaganda you have been fed though, so you will continue to believe the lie.

By the way, that was apretty pathetic youtube clip. It had nothing to do with hate and I am sure you would find far more ignorant people at an OWS than at a Tea Party, but there will always be a few wierdos in every group.

MARY: I get tired of posting this over and over but you are evidently a real slow learner.

Please tell me how Sarah Jessica Parker or George Clooney would personally benifit from an Obama win??? The answer is nothing but higher taxes, that's what. They are not supporting their SELF INTERESTS but rather what they think is best for the country at large. They are in fact, voting AGAINST what would personally benefit themselves. They see no personal gain. Why do you think Clooner goes to Africe all the time, to line his own pockets?

The Koch Brothers are INVESTING money in a candidate, that if he wins, will reward them will lower taxes, relaxed enviornmental regulations and perhaps smooth the way for them to invest in foreign countries. They are seeking TO LINE THEIR OWN POCKETS. They are among other things in the oil business and hate the fact that Obama actually wants to keep them from destroying our enviornment. Their father by the way was a founding member of the JOHN BIRCH SOCIETY. I'd say that says it all right there.

                                You got that now???

that is true but they are not going to base their policies based on what the oil execs say. Do you really think Big oil wanted the Pres to close down drilling after the BP spill? If he was a dog for the oil companies he would not have been allowed to do so. I am 100% sure that if it was McCain or Romney the wells would have stayed open.

I would much rather have politicians bought out by people that want to move us toward cleaner energy then ones that want to strip all regulations from the energy industry if the politicians will be bought regardless.

Really it does not matter who is in with who, the main goal is top stop all of the prostitution. Make it completely illegal and a jail-able offense for bribing politicians for subverting the will of the voters of this country. Since corporations are people according to the supreme court the entire board of directors should be thrown in jail.

Cap yearly donations to any and all political groups or elections to $50,000 with strict rules about transparency. Individual names must be attached to the money or it is not accepted. These donations cannot be claimed as deductions either. Anyone found violating this cap get fined 4x the amount in excess of the 50k.

Disband the Chamber of Commerce and outlaw lobbying.

We need tough regulations on political donations and lobbying and we needed them six years ago. The only time the business world should intersect with the political world is during hearings to get the opinions of field experts before crafting legislation.

                                Kansasbob,

I'll go a step farther and challenge you to tell us exactly which of President Obama's policies are either socialist or marxist (the two, btw, are mutually exclusive, but you probably didn't know that, hell, you probably don't know what mutually exclusive means either, lol) and, tell us what makes those policies either socialist or marxist.

                                My expectations are not high.

Oh, and as for your assertion (another word that's probably too big for you to understand) that Obama will be voted out, you must not be paying attention to the electoral map or the swing state polls. As it stands right now, Obama has a massive lead on the electoral map and in order for Romney to get 270 electoral votes, he'd have to win every single swing state. Unfortunately for him, however, Obama leads in most of them (VA, PA, OH, WI, MI, IA, NH, NV, CO and now he's even taken the lead in Florida!)

Oh, the far-right lunatic fringe keeps accusing the President of being a "Marxist" "Commie" "Socialist" and worst, without ever presenting any valid proof. They apparently think the accusation alone is enough.

Sure, occasionally they point out how Obama had a avowed Marxist neighbor - which proves exactly nothing, or point to the auto company bailout - signed by the President Bush Jr. before he left office. Like I said, not valid proof.

It probably comes from their Bircher origins - the John Birch Society was notoriously paranoid in seeing "Commies" everywhere, also without the slightest shred of proof.

In August 2009, Obama announced he was giving $2 billion in U.S. tax dollars to state-owned oil company Petroleo Brasileiro SA of Brazil for offshore oil drilling. At the same time, George Soros increased his stake $811 million in the same oil company. According to Bloomberg Press, 22 percent of the $3.68 billion of stocks and American depositary receipts of Petroleo Brasileiro are held by Soros Fund Management LLC.

Would you PLEASE inform us what makes Obama a socialist marxist? Also what does the people need??? President Obama and those "politians" you speak of decided that America needed jobs and while he hasn't been able to put all the americans that were put out of work thanks to the previous administration(At the current pace it would be done in 2014), he HAS created 2.4 million jobs so far against the still opposition of a "do nothing" congress (that's republicans AND democrats). If you want to have the argument that he LIED about getting unemployment down under 6%, REMEMBER in order for that to happen ALL the pieces have to play their part and they didn't. Other noted liars that were presidents:

Bush 41 - "Read my lips, No new taxes!"

Clinton - "I didn't have sexual relations with that woman!"

Bush 43 - "Iraq have WMD that are capable of reaching our shores."

If Boehner would have accepted the deal he INITIALLY agreed to with the President, The national debt would be down roughly 300 billion dollars this month.

It's not surprising to see all of the die-hard liberals, lining up to support this clown. And @lakerman2, who said, "They should be relieved of ALL their fortune and made to get real jobs so they can see how "easy" it is for those who work for a living." Is that tactic straight out of the soros textbook? History shows that he found "delight" in the power of taking others property for the Nazi party. And @juno6, who stated, "Old fat guy - since you are blogging I doubt you are in the elite group of Willard, but a troll. Why are all these ReTHUG governers in several states suppressing voters that would most likely vote Democratic??". Once again, you ignorant liberals take to the "troll" moniker, which is actually more suited for you silly liberals, who sit in front of your computers all day, and just "troll" for any comment you deem unsuitable to your liberal tastes, and pounce on it like a rabid dog. And as for the voter suppression conspiracy theory, are you freaking serious? It should be manditory to have a state issued identification card to vote, period. The only votes that would be suppressed would be the vote of the illegal aliens, who have to business voting in our elections anyway, and those of the 1918 New York Yankee baseball team lineup, as well as the entire cast of Walt Disney. I believe the intent is to keep the election as honest as possible, but that flies in the face of what every liberal believes! One person, one vote, not matter where they are from, if they are living, or if they are even legally in the country. Un-freaking-believable. But then again, you silly liberals aren't know for having much common sense. Have a great day you silly liberals! And don't stop believin'! Oh crap, that was clinton...

It seems all of YOU liberal morons have NO IDEA how economics work...as most all owe people you want to stay home, get everything for nothing and hit the upper class (Class warfare). How do you really think jobs are created? The government does NOT create lasting jobs, the private sector does; as much as you love NObama, you are another leach on society! Communism, Socialism and Fascism fails as has been proven! MOST honest AMericans WANT to work and feel proud of themselves and their accomplishments - you apparently are to lazy to even want to try - opportunity has left you behind because of your laziness. OWS - go to h e 1 1 or Russia or China! Better yet Afghanistan.

Dear Kansas, you should look into the England double-dipped recession. In England they did exactly what the republicans wanted to do here.

Instead due to President Obama we did a stimulus. It was way too small due to the fact our economy was twice as bad as was originally projected. Still the stimulus worked and our country unlike most Europeans countries is at least growing slowly in the right direction.

That is why President Obama wanted a jobs act to pass. He knows our country needs just a little more of a kick start to get us on firm ground. If those millionaires have hundreds of millions of dollars to spend on elections then they should as patriots have a small tax surcharge to get Americans working again.

It is simple if you think America is only for the 1% and their tax cuts then vote for a republican and if you think that America is for all the people like in our constitution then vote for a democrat.

So all these protesters are up set at the Koch brothers. Are any of them upset at how much money George "the anti- capitalist billionaire" Soros has contributed to Obama's campaign. How about the 500 million dollar loan of tax payer money that Obama has fast tracked to Solyndra which went bankrupt less than a year later? What do you think of the cap on your flexible spending accounts and new taxes on manufacturers of pace makers that Obamcare will bring? Also to those of you who agree with Obama that the Republican party is the party of no here is another fact. The Republican House has passed many healthcare bills and job creation bills that end at the do nothing Democratic Senate. Of course most of this information will be new to you since MSNBC will not give it much coverage.

REally? WHat GOP JObs bis have 'passed' since 2010? Ready? Go!

But they have iundeed proposed jobs bills . BUt have you read those bills? Tell us true now...did you?

I have read quite a few of the proposed GOP 'jobs bills' . Filled with poison pills that make it impossible to compromise on. Every single one. They are phony bills meant to dupe the voter that they are proposing something, but were designed not to pass or to obtain an unrelated concession. FAIL
