VIDEO: The Week That Was: Jobs report's long shadow
Domenico Montanaro looks back at Mitt Romney's muddled messaging on the Supreme Court's health-care ruling. Plus, President Obama hits the road for a bus tour, but a mediocre jobs report overshadowed it all.
Willard couldn't flip-flop fast enough on his insurance mandate isn MA! lol
The right wing nuts came out of hiding once they got a whiff of the dismal jobs report to celebrate those who are less fortunate than they are in record time!
Dead-Beat daddy Joe Walsh doubles down on berating a decorated Iraq war veteran!
And our Congress-critters had yet another week long vacation!
The jobs that have been created (4.4 Million over the last 2.5 years) is truly amazing -
Especially considering the total obstruction of the GOP/Koch party for the last 3.5 years.
The Republican party has done untold damage to our country not just via the filibuster and its admitted strategy of opposing all attempts to the fix the economy, but for the decade before that....and ever since Reagan.
Tax cuts for the wealthy and deregulate everything in sight CAUSED THIS GREAT RECESSION - and we are not going back. We're not going to do it all over again, Romney.
Romney is working for the Big Corporations, the transnationals, and the top one-tenth of one percent of this country, and its mouthpieces in the GOP/Koch party.
It will be interesting to see how the TeaPeople/RWNJs react to S.E. Cupp (The Cycle), saying that "Ann Romney is lying", this morning on the Thomas Roberts show..... when Ms. Ann said that Willard (we) are considering a woman for the VP slot!
Yup, S.E. Cupp, the hack, calling Ms. Ann a Liar!.....Priceless!
The Teapublican House is on another planet. Anything it passes is set to FAIL in the Senate. Just a time-wasting excercise to avoid creating jobs and lifting up the economy.
The HOUSE GOP has passed about 80 abortion amendments, "In God We Trust", and named various post offices - why is beyond me, when they fully intend to decimate and privatize the Post Office and postal Union.
House GOP has finaigled working 9 days a month for $170K, and receives the cadillac of health care plans;
But has produced not ONE job for you or me. Not one.
Romney is as capable of winning in Novemebr as much as Red Sox are capable of winning anything in the next 10 years. But they do have something in common: both team Willard and team Red Sox are spending obscene amount of money to be average...
Using exactly the kind of rhetoric Republicans dismiss as "tired excuses," the governor told reporters, "I came in and the jobs had been just falling off a cliff.... It takes a while to get things turned around. We were in a recession; we were losing jobs every month. We've turned it around and now we're adding jobs.... We want to keep that going to the extent we can."
Mitt Romney, six years ago.
Perhaps now would be a good time for a reality check. Last fall, Obama said the job market wasn't nearly strong enough, and he proposed an ambitious jobs plan called the American Jobs Act. Independent estimates showed that the policy, if implemented, would create as many as 1.9 million U.S. jobs in 2012 alone. Congressional Republicans, however, killed it.
1. With the job market struggling, Obama unveils the American Jobs Act, a State of the Union agenda filled with economic measures, and an economic "to-do list."
2. Republican lawmakers ignore the proposals, and the job market deteriorates.
3. The GOP then blames Obama when job numbers disappoint.
_____
Last weekend I mentioned, to use my exact words - the kick in the gut - the GOP throws at us on a daily basis.
Today, Romney says the job #'s were a kick in the gut.
Be careful what you say here. The Mitt camp can't think for themselves and have to steal material.
There's more ~
DailyKos:
On the top left we have Romney spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg's statement about recent media coverage of his offshore finances and on the lower right we have Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul's statement on David Axelrod calling Mitt Romney the most secretive candidate since Richard Nixon.
As you can see, the statements are identical—every word is the same, right down to the punctuation. But those aren't the only things the two statements have in common: They are also both equally meaningless. Neither answers any meaningful question about the issue at hand.
Romneyland isn't just dodging questions about their candidate, they're flaunting their evasion.
____
Thanks Romney. Because of YOUR POLICIES, there are fewer jobs in America. That's the definition of "kick in the gut".
And if people in this country want to vote for Romney, then go ahead. But please understand - his policies do not in any way, shape or form help your future if you belong to either the working or middle classes or are a student.
It's all out there front and center. Pay attention. Vote NO to GOP in November. They are the ones stalling progress in this country. They are the ones saying NO to jobs. Not the Democrats.
At 200 days, House GOP passed 81 measures, none of which created jobs and some that destroyed jobs.
They focused on divisive bills - for example, with the goal of ending Medicare, while giving tax breaks to companies that ship jobs overseas and Big Oil.
1. Filibustering the American Jobs Act. Last October, Senate Republicans killed a jobs bill proposed by President Obama that would have pumped $447 billion into the economy. Multiple economic analysts predicted the bill would add around two million jobs and hailed it as defense against a double-dip recession. The Congressional Budget Office also scored it as a net deficit reducer over ten years, and the American public supported the bill.
2. Stonewalling monetary stimulus. The Federal Reserve can do enormous good for a depressed economy through more aggressive monetary stimulus, and by tolerating a temporarily higher level of inflation. But with everything from Ron Paul’s anti-inflationary crusade to Rick Perry threatening to lynch Chairman Ben Bernanke, Republicans have browbeaten the Fed into not going down this path. Most damagingly, the GOP repeatedly held up President Obama’s nominations to the Federal Reserve Board during the critical months of the recession, leaving the board without the institutional clout it needed to help the economy.
3. Threatening a debt default. Even though the country didn’t actually hit its debt ceiling last summer, the Republican threat to default on the United States’ outstanding obligations was sufficient to spook financial markets and do real damage to the economy.
4. Cutting discretionary spending in the debt ceiling deal. The deal the GOP extracted as the price for avoiding default imposed around $900 billion in cuts over ten years. It included $30.5 billion in discretionary cuts in 2012 alone, costing the country 0.3 percent in economic growth and 323,000 jobs, according to estimates from the Economic Policy Institute. Starting in 2013, the deal will trigger another $1.2 trillion in cuts over ten years.
5. Cutting discretionary spending in the budget deal. While not as cataclysmic as the debt ceiling brinksmanship, Republicans also threatened a shutdown of the government in early 2011 if cuts were not made to that year’s budget. The deal they struck with the White House cut $38 billion from food stamps, health, education, law enforcement, and low-income programs among others, while sparing defense almost entirely.
********
The Republican Party is no damn good. They could have actually done something; instead they did nothing. Particularly Boehner, the Republican from Ohio.
Why are they in government? Why do they continue to take all the perks afforded them?
bayllie - he never said it. Plus, if he had, he had no one of knowing the GOP would pledge to block EVERYTHING he tried to do in order to make him a one-term President. That hadn't been done in the history of this great nation. But, nothing is beneath the GOP. No party has ever sunk as low as this group of Republicans. How sad for a once great party. How sad for the country.
The Post Office was asked to do something no other outfit has ever been asked to do.
It was asked to set up a massive ($billions) retirement program for DECADES INTO THE FUTURE- by the Bush Administration. It was a set up set in motion some time ago, to bring down the Post Office.
The Postal Service delivers 168 billion pieces of mail and is part of a $900 billion industry. To be profitable, all that is needed is for Congress to pre-fund retirement health care, and move from six day to a five day delivery.
The USPS OIG has shown that the Postal Service has actually OVERPAID its retirement benefits program obligation by almost $7 billion.
Mr. Darryl Issa is the only one disputing that FACT. He is speaking for the Koch brothers, founders of the Cato Institute, which argues for PRIVATIZATION of the Postal Service.
People still use mail a lot, despite the spin about the inernet. And the postal service still brings in $67 billion a year.
Dismantling public services is #1 for GOP. Republican Governors have fired 700,000 public workers, when previous Presidents have INCREASED public sector workers during a recession to help recovery. That includes GWB.
this job situation is a result of greedy corporations that have wanted more obscene illegal profits for themselves and been unwilling to pay a fair wage for more full-time employees.
That's exactly why you don't want Willard the Selfish Vulture in the White House now.
It was all predicted, but the unanimous decision by Senate Republicans on Tuesday to filibuster and thus kill President Obama’s jobs bill was still a breathtaking act of economic vandalism. There are 14 million people out of work, wages are falling, poverty is rising, and a second recession may be blowing in, but not a single Republican would even allow debate on a sound plan to cut middle-class taxes and increase public-works spending.
The bill the Republicans shot down is not a panacea, but independent economists say it would have a significant and swift effect on the current stagnation. Macroeconomic Advisers, whose forecasts are often used by the Federal Reserve, said it could raise economic growth by 1.25 percentage points and create 1.3 million jobs in 2012. Moody’s Analytics estimated new growth at 2 percentage points and 1.9 million jobs. Those economists say that Republican ideas for increasing growth would have no measurable effects in the next year.
The Republicans offer no actual economic plans, only tired slogans about cutting regulations and spending, and ending health care reform. The party seems content to run out the clock on Mr. Obama’s term while doing very little. On Tuesday, Mr. Obama’s campaign manager, Jim Messina, accused Republicans of trying to “suffocate the economy” in hopes that the pain would work to their political advantage. They are doing little to refute that charge.
Their lack of serious ideas was on full display in both the Senate and the presidential debate on Tuesday night in New Hampshire. The debate was ostensibly about the economy, but when the freshest and most-talked-about idea is Herman Cain’s ridiculous “9-9-9” tax plan, it is clear that the economy they were debating is not the one Americans are forced to live in. Mr. Cain — whose rise in the polls says everything you need to know about the amateur-hour decline of his party — wants to replace all federal taxes with a 9 percent levy on corporate income, personal income and sales. As Bruce Bartlett, an economist who has worked in Republican administrations, recently wrote in The Times, it is a formula designed to cut taxes for the rich and increase them for the poor, raising the deficit and doing nothing for growth.
The other candidates were no less vacuous. Mitt Romney offered an ash heap of used ideas, saying he would push a balanced-budget amendment, cut back on regulations, and go chest to chest with China on trade. Rick Perry, when he could be stirred to speak, vowed to somehow put 1.2 million people to work in the energy industry, as if the whole country were Texas and drills could pop up on every block.
Republican candidates fear the Tea Party too much to acknowledge that economists are solidly behind government intervention to awaken growth. The jobs bill rejected by Republican leaders will now be reintroduced piece by piece, and Republicans are not likely to go along with much more than an extension of the payroll tax cut (which is opposed by Mr. Romney). But at least the record is increasingly clear who is advocating real ideas and who is selling an empty vessel.
___________
The record is crystal clear who is stopping growth.
Senate Republicans killed a jobs bill proposed by President Obama that would have pumped $447 billion into the economy.
I find it interesting that the Jobs Act was sponsored by Harry Reid alone - and that was by request. No other Democrats signed on. Not one. It never went to committee. How odd.
Was this similar to the President's budget for which not one Senator voted?
The way to get around Republican obstruction, I think, is to have leaders who can lead the Congress, the Senate and the country to productivity. Time for a change.
Blame Republicans as obstructionist when Obama use his executive powers whenever he thinks is important . I guess use his executive powers to promote more private jobs is not part of his agenda, he want increase his base of union government workers only with his Jobs Bill. Yes time for a change.
Yawn...more drivel from liberal publications...thinkprogress?? Perhaps you should quote something from the National Enquirer, it would be equally true...
So bright lefties on here, how come Obama dropped his campaign line of "we're moving in the right direction?"
There was NEVER a promise of 8.2% unemployment by the WH, or anything like it.
That was media faux spin.
No-ONE KNEW how deep a hole the great recession had made in our economy, how much damage, or what was coming -- back in Jan/Feb/March2009.
Or even after that.
At the end of Bush's term, it was thought the GDP had gone down to minus 3.9% (-3.9%).
Economists like Romer put out some figures for the GDP, but they were only speculative.
Later, it was discovered that the real figure was minus 8.9% (-8.9%) in December 2008.
Way, way off.
The recession really was that bad, and the recovery really has needed all hands on deck.
And no crystal ball could fix it from any party.
I have the official link showing GDP for those two years, if you want to see them.
Without a stimulus and just austerity, Europe has fallen into the brink with unemployment numbers ranging from 11% to 25%.
Our stimulus was watered down, but a million jobs were created that same year because of it. The President has done fantastically well...with no help from GOP/Koch.
CNN will air a documentary this weekend about George W Bush, the Ship Captain of US economy, a.k.a. Costa Concordia, who ran the ship aground and then abadoned ship, running away as a fugitive (hiding somewhere in Texas and ready to cross into Mexico any time if people want to sue him for justice).
Then a Supreman has appeared - President Obama - who took over and has done as good a job as he has supermanly possible, but the damages have been done (by Bush, of course). It's hard to right the ship, harder than you thought.
nothing but twisted liberal rhetoric spewed agenda. the proof is in the pudding, no economic relief in sight but excuses & blames in backward style to get through the day. people are looking at a bleak future without jobs, progressive reduction of savings, assets devalued to half, their children entering poor houses. true leader virtue is a natural talent that cannot be learned, if you don't get it, you will never get it, no matter what you do, advise of the experts on issues cannot be weighed in, gets too foggy on the brain of any intelligent person, but gets too lucid on the brain of an average person born a natural leader with wisdom. natural born leader is as rare as an expensive stone that gets form in million years. we do not know if one is already born..........
You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him. James Miles

Even if Republicans control both houses of Congress and the White House in 2013, they will not work for anyone except the wealthy and corporations. Mitt Romney’s big economic plan is over $7 trillion in tax cuts for the wealthy and their corporations that have not created jobs or a healthy economy for the past ten years. Politicususa.
Program cuts and fees. That's Romney's agenda. Program cuts and fees to the poor, working and middle classes. Tax cuts for the rich. That's the only world Mitt knows. The world of the uber rich. He is not about leadership. He's about exploitation of every single decent working man and women in this nation.
The Republican Party has made it quite clear - do nothing.
Ironic isn't it. The GOP ran in 2010 on jobs. Yet they didn't lift a finger to help. Purposely, with intent to hurt no only President Obama, but all of us.
Congress Gets Failing Marks on Economy, December 2011
Congress is ending what may be its least productive year on record after government shutdown threats, the collapse of debt-reduction talks and little action to fix the worst U.S. economy since the Great Depression.
This year’s partisan battles brought the U.S. to the brink of a government shutdown four times, caused a two-week furlough of Federal Aviation Administration workers and led Standard & Poor’s to lower the nation’s credit rating after it said lawmakers didn’t do enough to reduce the federal deficit.
“It’s been one of the worst Congresses in modern history,” said Representative Jim Cooper, a Tennessee Democrat.“We have failed to meet our minimum standards of competency and endangered America’s credit rating. We have failed to pass key legislation on time. And there is very little hope for improved behavior.”
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, told reporters today it was a “year of missed opportunities and made-up crises.”
__________
The only sure thing in America - bad leadership from the GOP. They never fail to disappoint. Never. And now, Mitt is going to fundraise with Dick Cheney this week. What a duo.
.... Another reason for slow job growth here in US is less exports to Europe because of troubling PIGS and EuroZone crisis.
Not socialism that has created the worst problems there, the problem comes really from capitalist policy of greed and un-imaginative austerity measures which most Republicans here have supported, for example, in Wisconsin.
PIGS - acronym for euro countries with worst problems - Portugal, Italy, Greece, and S-pain
everything you say is of no value, your simply a bubbly cheerleader. I see no insight, or intelligence, i dont even see a ideology. I just see a teenager who gets a tickle seeing her posts first, and is rooting for a football team like a mindless sports fan
Revenge, that comment was uncalled for. And it is silly to call out those are first. It's the internet and she's having fun.
And just so you know, Feisty is not a mindless sports fan. Her real work is behind the scenes, volunteering to get President Obama elected and then re-elected. She does all kinds of volunteer work.
As the Obama campaign said, Romney is the problem, not the solution. A look at Romney's policies over the years proves it.
Feisty cares deeply about people. More than I can say for millions of Americans, who refuse to pay attention to the fact that the GOP policies are crippling their futures.
Bad News on the Good News Front: Of course, that’s what some folks are crowing as the nation has 80,000 jobs created. What is great about this is; all the other job growth was despite President Obama, but this slow growth is because of the President’s policy. Is that why the putative nominee for the Teapublicans has been telling the governors of Florida, Virginia, Ohio and Iowa among others to tone down the “recovery” mantra? Hey Teapublicans, looks like your slip is showing and it’s a dingy dismal gray. Now the max deiseal milieu would like “Good News on the Bad News Front” but that would expose their “wreck the economy to get the President” agenda. Well, they can’t have that.
Teapublicans and all of their conservative ilk are still smoldering over last week’s upholding of the RomneyCare taxation authority. The BIG story: John Roberts, you are NOT my friend. Showing their true colors, the “hard starboard” crowd ranged from “breaking off the bro-mance” to outright vociferous, vehement, vilest of all evil vitriol. Scathing denunciations filled with charges of fraud, popularity seeking and/or treason. It must really kill them guys to see some of their fellow citizens start to have entry level coverage in the health care system. Yeah, and those kids, free-loading, non-taxpayers they are, no health care for them. Not surprisingly, the rest of America is starting to realize the opposite, as they hear the real details and understand the real benefits of the A.C.A. I’m sure the $12 billion in insurance company rebates will change some minds about the efficacy of reform. Further, the Rombotic memory banks have become scrambled, as they can’t remember what was a penalty and what was a tax and when did the twain they meet. I guess just chalk it up to a fundamentally flawed candidate, whose only real draw is the fact he’s got money, no matter how many fetuses he had to burn to get it.
Speaking of fundamentally flawed, Willardistic Mittronic Rombot, is starting to come apart at the very snuggly sowed seams, not unlike a pale, limpid kielbasa being placed in the microwave with the setting on 11, and the timer on 15 minutes. The mess will be neither pretty, nor tasty. From the candidate’s side stepping, back pedaling, waffle juggling stance, the Rombot cannot remember what he did when he was Governor of Massachusetts, or what he didn’t do, or anything. And did “His Mormon Magnificence”, the “Prince-ling of the Patriarchal Priesthood”, control the medical waste company known as SteriCycle, which disposed of (duhn, duhn, duhhhhhhhhn) aborted fetuses? The “pro-life” side of your party isn’t going to appreciate the financial savvy acquiring a low overhead, high fee business like SteriCycle to create wealth for the investors and the shareholders represents. No, they might tend to focus on that whole icky aborted fetus aspect, shame really, they’re missing a chance to see the REAL Rombot in action, a man of derring-do, not afraid to make a dollar anywhere, regardless of “belief”.
Top Syrian general and member of Assad’s “inner circle” General Manas Tlaff defected from the regime. Son of a former defense minister and high ranking member of the Republican Guards, Tlass’ defection may show the first cracks in the soon to be tumbling breach of Bashar al-Assad’s rule. As more fighting takes place, it appears greater and greater numbers of military leaders and rank and file defect to the opposition. A “Friends of Syria” conference is taking place in Paris this weekend, in an attempt to formulate action either with or without Russia or China. Desperate despots delaying destiny, denying dignity and delivering death.
Finally, the announcement of the discovery of the Higgs boson and the Higgs field on July Fourth will be heralded as a major breakthrough in science. Now that the relevant energies for detecting the field and particle have been found, it will only be a matter of time before some intrepid inventor and ingenious entrepreneur will develop methods and machinery to manipulate this aspect of the cosmos to our liking … or doom. It’s our choice. Seriously.
How to vote this November is not rocket science. It's common sense. Throw out the Republicans who wouldn't help America when we needed them most.
Bring in a new Congress and allow President Obama to move this country forward with jobs. That is the bottom line. Republicans in Congress will never do that.
Pat Boston, you choose to ignore many of the facts - the Republicans have put forth many jobs bills - the problem is they want to be able to pay for them by offsetting the costs with cuts elsewhere and the Democrats just want to spend the money with no plan for how it is going to be paid for. We already saw a major stimulus bill that saw much of the money go to support government jobs - and much of the money unaccounted for. The democrats have a history of taking more and more money to give away to the unions and everyone else to try and secure permanent votes to keep them in office. How much money did you see from the first stimulus go to support shovel ready projects - it sounded good but it was sham - it was largely used as a short term means to prevent teachers, state and federal workers from feeling the effects of the depression that those working in private business had to endure. The government is to be supported by the people - the government is not meant to support the people - we are creating a growing dependancy on the government as we grow our give-away programs - they've done a lot for the black community haven't they - we've created a growing share of the black population that doesn't take responsibility for themselves but instead expects the government to pay pay pay. It's a diservice to them - it keeps them down. Every person capable of working should have to work for any government handout - even if it is picking up garbage along the highway - if my tax dollar is going to give someone a meal who is capable of working then I want that person doing something in return. There is no free ride in life. ..and tieing it to a current topic - Health Care is not a right - it's not free - someone has to pay for it.
The Week That Was: The American people are well aware of Romney's flip-flop problem. The problem is so bad in fact that the term "flip-flop" isn't sufficient to describe it. Etch-a-Sketch, shape-shifter, the Twister game, etc. doesn't suffice either. Romney's gymnastics have become legendary.
This week while President Obama was out meeting people on 'the line," a woman thanked him for passing ACA ("Obamacare"). I played the clip a couple of times, because it was so striking how the president is energetically trying to shake everyone's hand. Then you see him suddenly stop and focus on one woman. You see the president listening intently, and then giving her a hug as tears stream down her cheeks. This is sincerity that can't be faked (as in The Adjustment Bureau, Romney focuses on the right amount of scuff on his shoes).
The bottom line -- It is about character, and character matters.
During Obama's first 3.5 years, the number of working age Americans not working has increased to 78,000,000 from 68,000,000, an increase of 10,000,000.
At this rate of decline, by the end of an 8 year Obama presidency the American workforce will have declined 21,600,000 additional persons compared to the level Obama inherited from George Bush on January 9, 2008.
In case you missed my reply to your comment on a previous thread.
The msm is an abbreviation for the term, the mainstream media. MSN stands for Microsoft Network, which is Microsoft's web portal. MSNBC is Microsoft National Broadcasting Company, the cable and internet version of NBC.
When I said the msm is biased in favor of the right-wing, I was referring to all the usual broadcast TV channels, and their websites. That is generally what is referred to as the mainstream media.
And, in case anyone tries to collapse this post for being off topic, the bias in the media is evident by the fact gas prices have been dropping for weeks and I have yet to hear a reporter declare this surely helps Obama's re-election.
Go to Fox News they have been reporting gas going down. Grant it, they didn't mention Obama, or how it will help him in November, but they have been reporting gas prices.
I will say that it was refreshing to see Steve Benen on tv last night. His reporting is top of the line. I hope we see more of him. Very professional in manner and tone, unlike Halperin and a few other long timers in DC.
Actually, Amy- you should be thanking the media for ignoring gas prices. Were they to do some actual reporting, it would hurt, not help, Obama.
Why? Well, there are two reasons prices go down from highs. One is an increase in supply- this causes disinflation, and is an economic good.
The other is a decrease in demand- this causes deflation- an economic ill.
It might be easy for you to comprehend if you look at the housing market. The price of houses has collapsed- good for those who might be buying houses right now, but very poor for sellers of those houses. The overall effect on the economy has been very negative, because house prices dropped- not because there were more houses being built, but because so few people wanted to buy them.
That gas prices have declined may be a good for those filling their tanks, but the cause of it- lack of global demand- is an indication that the economy is doing worse, not better. Since virtually everyone is aware of gas prices- they see it when they fill their tanks- the media is doing Obama a favor by ignoring it. It's just another inconvenient truth to them.
Well, no jo, when gas prices were going up the ever-helpful media told us the President would not be re-elected if the price hit $5.00. Every time they reported on rising gas prices, the journalists would repeat this "fact." Now, gas prices are dropping, and where is the corrollary? Why aren't we hearing "if gas hits $3.20, the President's re-election is assured."
It's not that I think President Obama should get credit for the price of gas falling;I just wonder why the media doesn't consider this a bellweather, in terms of the election, they were so sure the opposite were true.
Republicans have obstructed all job creation legislation, as most people know. The partisan, extremist, anti-American gang needs to be kicked out of office. They campaigned on job creation in 2010 and have done absolutely nothing to fulfill their promise to the electorate. Now the arsonists are claiming to be the fire department, with Mitt the firing chief promising that if elected, jobs will happen. He is magic, since he has no plan but to gripe about the economy, as if whining is all people want to hear.
Voters should realize that all Republicans have to offer is failed ideology and lies. Romneycare? Romney does not care. Nobody knows what Romney stands for, but most know what he lies for.

My poor Leftie likes to whine all the time, whine all the time, whiiiiiine all the tiiiiiiime
I realize that you don't have any choice, but to use, colorful colloquialisms
talk ab0ut racism, denigrate with name calling, This behavior reminds me somewhat of wimps on the play ground.
There is no good record for, or from, POTUS #44. BHO mmm, mMm, MMM,,, has given you liberals nothing positive to proclaim, so you do what comes ever so naturally and descend in to the abyss of the lowest common denominator "hate & envy"
It's clear when he stated that the Private Sector is doing fine quite frankly they are and it's the Public Sector that sucks... yeah sucks down the tax revenue exponentially!!! You have to be kidding Right ? Can you tell me how the people that are out of work feel about their prospects for gainful employment? is the lie of 8.2% UN-employment the normal now ????????.two How about the ones that were forced to join the welfare roles just to survive? What about all of the wasted stimulus monies producing net zero jobs? Are many of the new people on disability really disabled? or are the rules governing acceptance artificially relaxed to accept more people possibly not really disabled? Where are those people that fell off the unemployment Cliff? Are there business people holding off on expansion because they are unsure/afraid of tax or regulatory consequences regarding ACA or this administration's ideology? What if American farmers ie (business people) cannot afford to plant crops or raise livestock due to over regulatory burdens imposed by the EPA? do we just tell them to get a job and eat at McDonald's? eat corporate food who is going to grow it? Public sector employment has risen under bush and obama look it up and see. FINE===Financially Insecure Neurotically Emotional about it, and Establishment types dinos, rinos, president, bureaucrats would just as soon increase the roll's of average Americans into the "Just Fine"class of ever so dependent upon Govt.
I guess many here are not aware of the the next big thing coming to a economy close to you. Shall, I share a bit of crystal clear future with you? If you take it to heart you can all take advantage of the opportunity to enrich your life and pocketbook. The inevitable Domestic energy boom is upon us in order of succession: Oil & Natural gas,Coal first Wind, Hydroelectric, Nuclear, secondary, Thirdly biomass, Solar distant last not until 2020 will solar play a viable part in global economic impact. Therefore, Those who choose too, can and will profit and sustain a equitable living from the economic impact of the domestic energy boom. (all industries will be impacted favorably) From Arby's to xylophones and so on... Barack Obama will share in this fortune also, however only from the side lines, Sorry he had his Half at Quarterback now he is injured and has to sit out the rest of the game. He knows this is inevitable if you could ask him and he told you the truth he would agree, One-n-done ... President Romney Is the Man best equipped & available to lead the US in to this Prosperous endeavor. With his background in business and connections with financial leaders world wide. He will do a good job leading America down the track that South Dakota & Canada have already started on. It is a pity, that some of you will have to be dragged kicking and screaming and some will choose to be left behind, Too bad for that really. I say get with the program, align with the future, be productive.
I have to laugh at you poor liberal "sycoo-phants" . Your erudite deity god-man is imploding his own campaign. His landslide moment is scheduled for November 6th 2012. Sorry if the liberal loss of the house in 2010 and the up and coming loss of the Senate majority & the change in the Executive dept. in January causes you any mental distress or anguish. However our country Can not and will not allow this Falsehood & Destruction of the Great American Dream to continue. Not to worry though there will be programs in place to help you mitigate the feeling of betrayal that you will inevitably experience from the realization of how you have allowed yourself to be deceived
GooDBYE brrack hussein obama MMm mmm nnno Thank You !!!
Maybe one of his buddies in Hollywood will help him out with a TV reality show, they can name it One & Done in Chicago. lol----> i'll watch it !
Bad week for Obama???? What about for the American people!!?! He is not going to be our president forever. But his policies will ruin our lives forever. Get a clue!!!
Obama is an extraordinarily skilled speaker. He can be personally charming. He is a superb salesman. Many very intelligent voters were completely convinced his by his grandiose statements, delivered with absolute certainty. (Give me a trillion dollars to spend, and unemployment will never rise above 8%. I will close Gitmo in one year! I will cut the deficit in half by end of my first term. Etc, etc, etc.)
There is no shame in admitting that we were fooled by someone so skillful. We have an unfortunate human tendency, though, to identify with the decisions we have made and defend them as if we were defending our own worth. This is especially true when we have a “support group” of others who are also finding every possible excuse for the same decisions.
When you find yourself repeating excuses that are objectively irrational (The Tea Party is composed of terrorists who are more powerful than the President and the Senate combined), it is time to shake yourself, back away a little, and reevaluate your position.
Blind loyalty to a losing sports team is endearing; blind loyalty to a failed leader is dangerous.
The +80,000 (84,000 private) obs number released Friday was not consistent with the ADP report of 176,000. I think there was also a household survey of something like 118,000, more reflective of what small business are doing. If I were Obama I would be talking up the later reports, since there is huge uncertainty in these numbers.
If the economy were "sputtering" and weak, as it is in the conventional wisdom, why would corporate profits be a records and the stock market so strong? Why would auto sales, domestic petroleum and natural gas production be gangbusters. Why, in fact, would the GDP be growing at 2%? The economy is in fact stronger than we think, and the jobs market will pick up in time.
Whatever is best for the country is not currently in republicans’ best interest. For example, good job numbers is best for the country but not in republicans’ best interest.
This is what this man said to me.
“I am a republican. I am a millionaire who owns a huge company that employs over 1000 employees. My company has need for more workers at the moment but I have decided not to hire until after the elections in November because I do not want to see good job numbers that would favor Obama. I am even considering laying-off just as a way of making sure that Obama is not re-elected. I can sacrifice the progress of my company for 3 months just to make sure the job numbers do not go up. This will enable us to continue blaming poor job numbers on Obama. The good thing is that Obama has no ability to stop me from doing exactly that.
My fear is that if Obama is re-elected then I will have no otherwise but to start hiring immediately because I will not be able to afford to not hire for 4 years. I can sabotage for 3 months but 4 years will be impossible for my company. My main goal just as my fellow republican Rush Limbaugh stated some time back is to make Obama fail.
I believe that most voters believe that the way things are in congress the US will be lucky if any jobs are created. The republicans in congress have made their wishes clear. Politics before country. Anything, even killing America should not stand in the way of President Obama winning a second term.

VOTE, THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE = NO BHO MMM mmm MMM 2012
Here's whining, discount, lies , demagogue , crying, whimpering, etc....etc...etc..in a nut shell but it is also the truth and why America is and has been on a distributive economic path and one of trying to destroy middle class America since the year 2000.
Republicans want to put blinders on to the biggest imbecile this country has ever had or ever will have for a President.
Last year's Economic Report of the President predicted that 1.7 million jobs would be created in 2003. Instead, the nation lost 53,000 jobs. In Bush's three years in office, 2.2 million jobs have disappeared.
Since the Great Depression, it has never taken this long for the economy to begin creating jobs after emerging from a recession. After the last recession ended in 1991, it took 14 months for employment to begin expanding. Current problems with the economy have gone on nearly twice as long, 26 months.
Reading the comments here sheds so much light on what ails America. The same tit-for-tat attitude pervades the entier society. It is a fact that the president offered a huge soultion to the country in his Jobs Bill. It is a fact that the Republican Party killed it. a fact that the Republican's obstructionist acts embarassed the US internationally and almost caused the country to default. That alone should be sufficient to remove them from office. The unemployment rate in the US is 8.2 percent. Has anyone looked at Europe to see what numbers are running there? This is a "world economy" and America is just one part of it. So explain why the US unemployment rate is so low compared to world standards in an economy that is on the bring of total collapse?
Imagine what America coulld have done if the Congress had worked with this president. Not only for Americans but for the world. Republicans wish to return to the twentieth century or possibly even the nineteenth and in this they are much like those in the Arab world who wish much the same.. Imagine these two mindsets running world affairs. It brings to mind the comment "wars and rumours of wars". And make no doubt about it. For all thier talk about balancing the budget and cutting spending. Mitt Romney and the Republican Party will have the country in another 'major" shooting war within eighteen months of taking office. Because the only way they can make money is through a huge war machine. Never mind that daily events prove this is no longer a viable option. They still believe might is right(A white only affair). It is the only way the rich can get even richer and the poor reduced as gun fodder.... Hey it works for them. If you're not in that grouping them ya'll gon be very sorry. America's only option of the next four years is to re-elect president Obama. The other choice would be shear insanity.
The answer is that 8.2 percent is not the unemployment rate. The real rate is much higher. They are, and have been for decades, playing with the numbers. The question to ask is, "who is obstructing an american from getting the job available?"
I agree with people that say that bush did this. No that low cap is not a typo. But three years and no vector up for the jobs statistic? Growth is one thing but a trend upward is not what we are getteng out of our leadership. Let's not forget that the republicans are not helping one bit. Obama is saying it is all republican obstruction. Obstruction to what? To more federal make work outlays? We need to put our people back to work and stop importing labor, legal and illegal.
Jobs creation for the last 3 months have been abysmal under Obama. The uncertainty of what could happen under this administration is killing the economy. Real unemployment is over 10%.
Obama's had 3.5 years, it's time for a CHANGE since HOPE is not cutting it. NOBAMA 2012!
I hope America wakes up, and see the GOP for what they are!!!

Last year's (2002) Economic Report of the President (GW) predicted that 1.7 million jobs would be created in 2003. Instead, the nation lost 53,000 jobs. In Bush's three years in office, 2.2 million jobs have disappeared.!!!!
If we could get the corrupt Republican corporates & their ONE-PERCENTERS to do what they should have done BEFORE THEY BROUGHT ON OUR ECONOMIC COLLAPSE, we wouldn't even be talking about jobs! Until we can stop their CAPITALISM, which doesn't work, won't work & NEVER WILL WORK because of their GREED, we will continue to be a FAILING NATION! It's time for them to give back to the 99%! They've STOLEN SO MUCH, they killed their own GOLDEN GOOSE! We are broke, we have NOTHING MORE to give!
The real way out of this mess they have put us in IS MORE JOBS, but not "MANUFACTURED JOBS", but "SHARED" JOBS! Workers need to be on a 3-day work week with the SAME 5-DAY PAY and fill the remaining work days with the UNEMPLOYED, also on a 3-DAY work week @ a 5-DAY PAY!! This would be DEMOCRACY INSTEAD OF HYPOCRISY!!!
99% American People, vote 100% STRAIGHT DEMOCRATIC and let's rid our selves of this corrupt Republican corporate MONARCHY that has MADE SLAVES OF US! The lives you save WILL be YOURS & your CHILDREN!!
This commentary is brought to you by a LIFELONG DEVOUT REPUBLICAN totally disgusted with their corruption! I have nothing to gain by this commentary, except to help my fellow Americans help themselves!
You act like there are NO rich people who are Democrats!! Pa-leeze!! The richest men in America are Dems. Gates, Buffet, Speilberg. So your arguement is BORING ME!! YAWN!! Go set up your Kool-Aid stand now. Haha
please note that Swiss Bank account Romney PROMOTED THE DRAFT during the Viet Nam War,
then skipped out to France for extraordinary length of time when church missionary tours were limited.
When Romney came home, he sided with his dad that the whole Viet Nam War was a scam and that he was against the war.
Promoting the draft, while Americans were dying, he skipped out, then says he wishes he could have participated. His whole life has been a lie.
Romney is a COWARD, Lying, Draft Dodger, who promoted someone else to die for him, that is his way of management.
Some may want anyone but Obama, but this guy ranks with Jane Fonda and should not be given anything or elected for anything.
For those who are not old enough to remember the military draft, it was a mandatory commitment for two years that was implemented during the Viet Nam War. If your number was called, you went and served like it or not. Young people may say, I wouldn't go and they can't make me, think again.
This is what Romney promoted as if he were a "responsible citizen", then he left his fellow citizens to serve and some died for us and him. I am ashamed of him as I am retired military member, and forget about representing our country Mr. Romney.
I am one of the Military members who are against Romney, and against his bid for the presidency.
And WHAT a week it WAS!
The amateur in the white house is so over his head it isn't even funny.
Obama must go!
He isn't capable of managing the night shift at Taco Bell.
FORWARD >>>>>>>>>>>>>Obama/Biden 2012.
Outhouse, you need to do a little fact finding. The House has passed 30 jobs bills that the Dems in the Senate are sitting on.
Senate is obstructing progress on jobs.
House GOP has finaigled working 9 days a month for $170K, and receives the cadillac of health care plans;
But has produced not ONE job for you or me. Not one.
RedSoxRule
Romney is as capable of winning in Novemebr as much as Red Sox are capable of winning anything in the next 10 years. But they do have something in common: both team Willard and team Red Sox are spending obscene amount of money to be average...
Steve Benen, The Maddow Blog:
Backhouse....
The post office has had it's day in the sunshine. Read yesterday they are losing 1 billion a month!
They do not even want to consider dropping Saturday delivery because of union jobs lost.
It is time for tough decisions that only real leaders can make, Obama is not qualified for any of this
At 200 days, House GOP passed 81 measures, none of which created jobs and some that destroyed jobs.
They focused on divisive bills - for example, with the goal of ending Medicare, while giving tax breaks to companies that ship jobs overseas and Big Oil.
First 200 days:
GOP jobs bills zero,
Voted down Democratic jobs bills 10 times.
Boston Pat
Obama said unemployment would be 5% in summer 2012 if he got his stimulus bill.
He got it.
He failed .
He will be very justly fired in november!
old fat guy-1144960
show me Obama saying this
Think Progress:
They REFUSE to work for the American people.
bayllie - he never said it.
Obama/Biden 2012

I know but I want the old fat guy to know....is it too naive of me to hope that people like old fat guy is after the truth, instead of spewing feces?
this job situation is a result of greedy corporations that have wanted more obscene illegal profits for themselves and been unwilling to pay a fair wage for more full-time employees.
That's exactly why you don't want Willard the Selfish Vulture in the White House now.
NY Times, Oct. 2011
Jobs, jobs, jobs. LOL
Is this the best Obama can do?
Blame Republicans as obstructionist when Obama use his executive powers whenever he thinks is important . I guess use his executive powers to promote more private jobs is not part of his agenda, he want increase his base of union government workers only with his Jobs Bill. Yes time for a change.
NOHOPE NOCHANGE NOBAMA
Yawn...more drivel from liberal publications...thinkprogress?? Perhaps you should quote something from the National Enquirer, it would be equally true...
So bright lefties on here, how come Obama dropped his campaign line of "we're moving in the right direction?"
Baylie...
Part of Obama's pitch was 5% with stimulus and 8.2% without.
Remember this was while unemployment was only 7.5%
Obama said a lot of things that he is about to be held accountable for.
Recovery summer awaits!
the guys with the 9% approval rating.
Yep.
And that would be: 242 Democrats, and 289 Republicans.
Wrong.
Bush's story:
CNN will air a documentary this weekend about George W Bush, the Ship Captain of US economy, a.k.a. Costa Concordia, who ran the ship aground and then abadoned ship, running away as a fugitive (hiding somewhere in Texas and ready to cross into Mexico any time if people want to sue him for justice).
Then a Supreman has appeared - President Obama - who took over and has done as good a job as he has supermanly possible, but the damages have been done (by Bush, of course). It's hard to right the ship, harder than you thought.
Have trust in Obama - 4 more years.
This is NOT a paid commercial for CNN.
Obama/Biden 2012
nothing but twisted liberal rhetoric spewed agenda. the proof is in the pudding, no economic relief in sight but excuses & blames in backward style to get through the day. people are looking at a bleak future without jobs, progressive reduction of savings, assets devalued to half, their children entering poor houses. true leader virtue is a natural talent that cannot be learned, if you don't get it, you will never get it, no matter what you do, advise of the experts on issues cannot be weighed in, gets too foggy on the brain of any intelligent person, but gets too lucid on the brain of an average person born a natural leader with wisdom. natural born leader is as rare as an expensive stone that gets form in million years. we do not know if one is already born..........

Vote them out.
Bloomberg-h/t Obama Diary:
What a duo.
Made For Each Other
PIGS are to blame -
PIGS - acronym for euro countries with worst problems - Portugal, Italy, Greece, and S-pain
redheaded slut - an excellent cocktail..
everything you say is of no value, your simply a bubbly cheerleader.
Can You Still Smell The Burn?
(Let’s review the previous several days.)
Seriously.
So let’s not blow it.
How to vote this November is not rocket science. It's common sense. Throw out the Republicans who wouldn't help America when we needed them most.
Bring in a new Congress and allow President Obama to move this country forward with jobs. That is the bottom line. Republicans in Congress will never do that.
Get rid of them.
Thanks Pat!
What we have on our hands is just another knuckle-dragging re-reg begging for some "Feisty" attention!
I have found over the years, if you don't feed them - they eventually starve.. ;o)
Confidential to Concern Citizen:
Amy, I read somewhere today that someone in the media had mentioned there were a few hundred in the crowd today to see the president.
A few hundred?
6,500 is a few hundred? Since when?
Amy,
Go to Fox News they have been reporting gas going down. Grant it, they didn't mention Obama, or how it will help him in November, but they have been reporting gas prices.
Pat,
I never believe the crowd count.
Pat Boston MA.
it must have been the same idiots that claimed "at least 500,000" attendees" at Glenn Beck's "Restoring Honor" rally...
..which turned out to be between 70-90k
Not to shabby.
And yet Romney's 500 is an overflowing crowd? Pathetic really!
I will say that it was refreshing to see Steve Benen on tv last night. His reporting is top of the line. I hope we see more of him. Very professional in manner and tone, unlike Halperin and a few other long timers in DC.
Romney couldn’t draw a crowd with an Etch A Sketch
bayllie - oh he might but he'd stand up quickly and erase all of it!
you give him too much credit. I don't think his well-manicured hands are capable of any manual labor. I don't think he even wipes his own ass
bayllie - ugh - bad visual!!!!
sorry..didn't think this one through
Check out a Romney crowd and tell me what you see? Here's a hint, you'll need sunglasses.
@backhouse, AffinityGW, tonybeeerm, bayllie, Pigotry, SeekingSanity, Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL
My poor Leftie likes to whine all the time, whine all the time, whiiiiiine all the tiiiiiiime

Can you tell me how the people that are out of work feel about their prospects for gainful employment? is the lie of 8.2% UN-employment the normal now ????????.two
How about the ones that were forced to join the welfare roles just to survive?
The inevitable Domestic energy boom is upon us in order of succession:
Oil & Natural gas,Coal first Wind, Hydroelectric, Nuclear, secondary, Thirdly biomass, Solar distant last not until 2020 will solar play a viable part in global economic impact.

Now that's just plain silly!
TAX me Baby all night long!
This is our president, "Middle Class is not about a paycheck." Huh? How am I going to live without a paycheck?
Whatever is best for the country is not currently in republicans’ best interest. For
example, good job numbers is best for the country but not in republicans’ best
interest.
This is what this man said to me.
“I am a republican. I am a millionaire who owns a huge company that employs over 1000
employees. My company has need for more workers at the moment but I have
decided not to hire until after the elections in November because I do not want
to see good job numbers that would favor Obama. I am even considering laying-off
just as a way of making sure that Obama is not re-elected. I can sacrifice the
progress of my company for 3 months just to make sure the job numbers do not go
up. This will enable us to continue blaming poor job numbers on Obama. The good
thing is that Obama has no ability to stop me from doing exactly that.
My fear is that if Obama is re-elected then I will have no otherwise but to start
hiring immediately because I will not be able to afford to not hire for 4 years. I can
sabotage for 3 months but 4 years will be impossible for my company. My main
goal just as my fellow republican Rush Limbaugh stated some time back is to
make Obama fail.
I believe that most voters believe that the way things are in congress the US will be lucky if any jobs are created. The republicans in congress have made their wishes clear. Politics before country. Anything, even killing America should not stand in the way of President Obama winning a second term.
Obama and his policies are what is killing America.
@ Rilli
YOU WILL HAVE SOME TEA too believe IN On November 7th
Until then just;
Whine(we did not know how bad it was), discount (any one who really cares), lie (about everything), demagogue (your opposition),cry (when you don't get your way), whimper (about atms), sulk (over so called do nothing congress), be dishonest (about your record), blame others(FOR THE INABILITY TO BE AN EFFECTIVE LEADER), ostrich syndrome (Hide from the Issues), pass the buck (trillions more debt for future generations), go bankrupt (borrowing .40+ of every dollar spent), snivel (about Europe economy), stomp your feet, throw yourself, on the ground, bang your head on the floor (When you don't get your way), scream (foul when others bring up your record), piss & moan (constantly about previous Administration), pull your hair, bite your nails, throw a general tantrum (about fast & furious accountability) , frown (when asked to lead), be sad , be mad(on way back to Chicago), believe your own lies (About Gov't expansion), get in bed & pull the covers up over your head, have no accountability( For the economic destruction of America), Bitch about others (pointing out your failure), complain constantly(about congress), misrepresent the truth ( in every way), spin (lies), wear your panties in a wad (About missing a putt), suck your thumb (while on AF 1) , sweat (The small stuff rainbow guy & galls), crap your pants (When rats run down the anchor rope) , envy( Mitt Romney), be dishonest ( National Security Leaks), hide behind falsehood ( When ever politically expedient), be corrupt (in thought), Steal someone Else's cheese (to give to others redistribute wealth), boo hoo (about tea party people in congress), deceitful (all the time), be Hateful of any one who disagrees with your point of view( say that they are racist). Be liberal............be 4WARD.................Be the Obama.........
!!! OR Grow the Hell UP !!!
Republicans want to put blinders on to the biggest imbecile this country has ever had or ever will have for a President.
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2001854367_bushecon10.html
Last year's Economic Report of the President predicted that 1.7 million jobs would be created in 2003. Instead, the nation lost 53,000 jobs. In Bush's three years in office, 2.2 million jobs have disappeared.
Since the Great Depression, it has never taken this long for the economy to begin creating jobs after emerging from a recession. After the last recession ended in 1991, it took 14 months for employment to begin expanding. Current problems with the economy have gone on nearly twice as long, 26 months.
G. Brown, GOD bless you for this link, unfortunately the GOP low education voters don't count on facts nor truth.
I am not voting for Obama. MSNBC, Sarah Jessica Parker, George Clooney and Jon BonJovi can't make me.
But I am voting for him.... so your vote doesn't mean S-hit anymore because I just cancelled you out ...
LMFAO !
PS.... The Koch brothers can't make me vote for Romney no matter how much PAC money they spend.
======
Last year's (2002) Economic Report of the President (GW) predicted that 1.7 million jobs would be created in 2003. Instead, the nation lost 53,000 jobs. In Bush's three years in office, 2.2 million jobs have disappeared.!!!!
Thanks to G. Brown, for the link!!!

Obama is not running against George Bush. Don't you so-called INFORMED people know that?
Haha
We all want to be rich. Just admit that TR. You would take RICH any day.
Military Members, Veterans, Military retirees;
please note that Swiss Bank account Romney PROMOTED THE DRAFT during the Viet Nam War,
then skipped out to France for extraordinary length of time when church missionary tours were limited.
