ARLINGTON, VA -– Mitt Romney deployed New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte to speak on his behalf at a pro-life conference just outside the nation’s capital Friday morning, where she repeatedly attacked President Barack Obama.
“How we treat the weakest among us is truly a reflection on who we are as a nation and President Obama’s record shocks the conscious when it comes to protecting life and unfortunately on many other issues as well,” Ayotte told the crowd at the National Right to Life conference. “He has a vision of America that is very different from what we want for our children and our grandchildren. I shudder to think what would happen in a second term.”
Sen. Ayotte, who is commonly mentioned as a possible vice presidential choice for Romney, talked highly of the man she endorsed early on for president this cycle.
“I want you to know, that Gov. Romney is a fighter who will stand up for life and he will restore conservative values based on our moral, our moral grounding in the White House and he will govern as a pro-life president,” she said inside a Hyatt hotel ballroom here.
Referring to the presumptive GOP nominee as “my friend” and “a strong leader” during her roughly 20 minute address, Ayotte laid out just how important she believes the election on November 6 is for the country.
“Life is on the line in this election –- it truly is and we can’t afford to just play defense, we have to get on the offense and we need to elect a pro-life president. We need to elect Mitt Romney to make sure we protect life in the White House,” she said and even jabbed Obama for always having so many celebrities campaigning with him.
“When you stand up for what is morally right, when you stand up for those who don’t have a voice –- that is much more powerful than any celebrity that can come in this room.”
Ayotte, the former Attorney General from New Hampshire, told the several hundred people in attendance that she is the only female pro-life senator in Congress and would work as hard as she could to fight for the future of this country.
The event Friday morning was originally planned as a prayer breakfast but organizers changed it Thursday afternoon to a rally aimed at repealing Obamacare after the Supreme Court’s ruling to uphold President Obama’s healthcare law.
“Yesterday’s Supreme Court decision highlights what is at stake in this race,” Ayotte noted during her address.
Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback, who once backed Texas Gov. Rick Perry in the GOP primary, keynotes the closing banquet of the three-day conference Saturday evening. In addition to sending Ayotte on his behalf, Gov. Romney also sent a video message to attendees.

Where was Willard?
Back in the Mitt-less Protection Program?
Imagine the disappointment with the overflow crowd of 500 who came to see Willard & instead got Wilma...
Still in shock over the SC ruling yesterday. Wondering how he's gonna run against a healthcare law that he implemented himself with great success.
Ayotte stands in for Romney at pro-life conference
That's the GOP for ya. They're losing on every other issue, so they have to dip into their bag of wedge issues and see if they can't stir up some "Fetus's are Us" vote.........
I'll bet within the hour, some RWNJ will post something like this: All Obama-Care will do is kill unborn babies!
Same here Bryan - like you said earlier; "It's going to be the hottest November on record" LOL!
Pro-Life Conference.......but, but, vowing to Repeal ObamaCare!
WTF!
and also willing to send other families sons and daughters (except their own) to fight in wars we don't belong in!
How "pro-life" is it to tell 30 million people without health insurance to go screw themselves?
Pro-Life Conference.......but, but, vowing to Repeal ObamaCare!
Chilled - They're only concerned before they are born. After that, it cost too much money to be concerned...
Standard Right-wing logic!
Feisty asks - Where was Willard?
One of the most beautiful places in NYC is Central Park. And there is a hotel there that I think, but not sure, is the most expensive hotel to stay in in Manhattan. It is directly across the street from Central Park if I remember correctly. That is where Willard was last night.
###########
The Pierre, the iconic U.S. flagship of Taj Hotels on New York's Fifth Avenue overlooking Central Park is re-opening following an impressive $100 million renovation debuting new guestroom and bath interiors.
Even in a city where exclusive luxuries are the norm, there is one hotel that is far more rare and special than the rest. Possessing a fabled Central Park location in Midtown Manhattan and legendary history, The Pierre continues to set the standard for elegance and unrivalled hospitality.
Politics and Royalty: Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip of England, Princess Grace of Monaco, Lyndon Johnson and Bill Clinton have all stayed at this hotel.

And Romney wants to repeal health care.
So, Mittens has resorted to using a stunt douche...now that's a shocker.
Imagine the disappointment with the overflow crowd of 500 who came to see Willard & instead got Wilma...
Feisty -
Willard's recouping from his big event. You don't realize how taxing it is performing before 500 drunken toothless rednecks. It'll definitely take it out of ya....
Obama/Biden 2012
lol @ "stunt douche". I'm using that....
Professionals who actually care for people, not partisan politics, support the Affordable Care Act. Mitt Romney and his Cat Woman are political hacks.
Protect/care for the unborn ...everybody else, oh well.
Guess that's where the 'personal responsibility' kicks in.....but wait they gotta get rid of the 'mandate' in Obamacare.
Fitsy, Obama is a just another tax and spend libby. Crushing the middle class. Sad.
While we were all debating the cost to our liberty due to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), we were ignoring the cost to our pockets. If there ever was a reason for bipartisan rage about this law, it should be on the twenty - yes, twenty - hidden new taxes of this law. Making matters even more relevant is that seven of these taxes are levied on all citizens regardless of income. Hence, Mr. Obama’s promise not to raise taxes on anyone earning less than $250,000 is just another falsehood associated with this legislation.
Mitt is in a bad spot today. He's been using the ACA to stir up his base, screaming 'the mandate is unconstitutional' and all.
Now it's been found constitutional.
Not much more he can say on it now that the SC ruled, and that ruling is really going to hurt him in the future.
All those soundbites where he made some big statements will inevitably be pupped up to show that Mitt isn't Bo. Where Bo knew everything, Mitt doesn't know anything.
Oh, too many good ones to pick which made me laugh the most as well as great thoughts of the more serious nature.
Amy, my local paper this morning had an article. The local hospital administrator interviewed was equally happy with the SCOTUS rule. As he said, the ACA rewards hospitals and doctors for quality of care not quantity; the electronic system for patient files required by ACA allows specialists to access what has been done without repeating procedures and tests. He spoke of several aspects of ACA and said, they will reduce the cost of health care in the future as well as the cost of insurance. He said that is what health care should be about and ACA will go a long way to making us a healthier country.
Of course, they also interviewed a local insurance man who was whining about how this will drive insurers out of the market but in the same sentence said that for many years, he has had fewer insurance carriers to offer his clients (failing to note that this decline began long before ACA was even a glimmer in President Obama's eye). Naturally, he also gave the tried and true GOPTP talking point "long lines for health care like they have in Canada" for good measure.
P.S. I see that just like good little GOPTP sheep, the conservatives have glummed on to the "tax" talking point.
Oh Goodie - the same Ayotte that throws around $300k of tax payer money for fun.
@Amy - wasn't sure if you saw it .. but Domenico left you a response to a question you posed a couple days ago.
The Republicans wanted the mandate tax in particular first (before they were against it). They are the ones who have to reconcile that with their pledge of no-new-tax allegiance to Norquist.
I thought the ruling was poetic justice, if only for that.
To all you RWNJ's decrying the ACA, can you say 'Romneycare' with a straight face?
Mitt was all for it for MA, assisted in the design of the ACA, but now all he can say is it's a bad bad thing because Obama did it - and we need to repeal it by voting for me.
Poor Mitt needs to look in the mirror every time he says Obamacare and then say 'Hey, that's me'!
.
So.
Can't sanction states for failing to impose the exchanges.
Any bets on whether states do it anyways, to get some of that sweet federal cash?
Even the reddest states are going to take the handout while biting the hand.
Jody--you are spot-on! Many of us are watching and are happy to see that we can deliver and be paid for quality care. This has the potential of creating better health outcomes for all Americans at a lower cost. Previously, our country has been at the bottom of the list for healthy outcomes among industrialized or developed nations, with our costs per capita being at the top of the list. So essentially, American citizens have been paying premium prices for less than premium outcomes (ref. Commonwealth Fund, World Health Organization statistics). We now have the opportunity, and there are a number of pilot projects going on, both at the state level and the national level. This is a marvelous opportunity to show that our country is finally getting with the program. My hope is that we will eventually go to a one payer system!

Ayott is in for this pro-life rally, while Willard is -on-life-support - gasping for air behind the scene after the Supreme Court decision
Oh does this insanity of the far right EVER end? Mitt isn't even man enough to show up at an event? That surprising to anyone? I think he's getting depressed that he can't even draw the crowds our First Lady does. Pathetic little Mitt. Probably riding the car elevator up and down whining "why don't they like me???"
In reference to all of the above in the article - this is what grasping at straws really sounds like? Hmmm.
Probably bout' as acccurate as all the other Bull-schtein you post son.
Bryan E, yes, and those straws are slippery little buggers.
RedSux and the fake outrage!
...and timed with this conference the message from the GOP is clear.
"We'll take care of you until you're born...then, screw it, you're on your own!"
95% of republican votes come from people voting for their guns or for the "pro-life" stance. For these voters, nothing else matters, including health care, which thank God is in place now thanks to Roberts.
Noid--you took the words right out of my mouth. "Pro-life, only for the unborn. The rest...not so much, or should I say...not at all!
Gutting the safety net and SS, programs that take care of the "weakest among us," is a reflection of the TPGOP "pro-life" stance? Other industrialized nations take care of ALL their citizens. In our country, only the wealthy and unborn are considered sacred. Our country way outspends all other nations combined on military and killing other people's children. I do not understand how the TPGOP members have the unmitigated gall to stand there and tell the world "we believe in the sanctity of life."
"We have met the enemy and he is us!" Pogo by Walt Kelly
When I tried to write out "social security, it became a hyperlink for an advertisement. I am not sure why that happened. I don't know to whom I should complain about this!
Yeah! Better come outta the womb shootin'!!
and the repubs draw no inference from this fact at all? Hmmmmmm.
Willard's pro-life creds are spotty at best, and judging from his evasion of this conference it would appear that it is prioritized right around "rearranging sock drawer",....and "washing my hair" on Willard's calendar.
You pro-lifers,.....take notice.
"I believe in a woman's right to choose" - Mitt Romney
DaNoid, home run.
The GOP believes life begins at conception (some are now claiming it begins so many hours before and put that in some state's legislation) but once born, they could not care less if the child has food, clothing or a place to sleep; and education, well, who needs teachers for the poor anyway.
oh goodie... for a moment, I thought TP/GOP believe that life begins at erection...
Way to throw Susan Collins (R-ME), Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) under the bus. Nice to see teamwork alive and well in the RNC.
LOL, looks as if the yellow streak up Mr. Etch-a-Sketch Romney's back is growing wider. Can't be seen speaking to the pro-life conference crowd, it might upset the majority of voters who think it is none of anyone's business and believe government should stay out of their personal decisions regarding having children.
Maybe he's having another secret retreat to figure out which direction the ACA winds are blowing to figure out which way he is blowing as well.
Don't worry Jody,
By this time next month Mittens will be taking credit for the ACA, saying it was all his idea, thats why he did it in when he was governor. Just like he did with the auto bailout. Next thing you know, he'll be taking credit for sliced bread...BTW, what was the best thing before sliced bread was invented?
Jody ... Wayward Willard is busy working on his ultimate speech, it will be full of sound and fury and as the rest of the saying goes, signify absolutely nothing. It will be a summation of his entire paltry existence reamed with denial.
Detroit, no doubt; kind of like the auto industry loans. He'll be singing the same tune, "President Obama did what I told him to do." Old Willard did write that Op Ed saying that the Massachusetts health care plan should be used as a template for Federal law.
ideology, ahh, yes. He is quite good at saying a lot of nothing.
The biggest problem I have is the fact that so many people are so out of touch with reality, and that they actually support the likes of the so called Republicans-Radical Right. They are like a group of blind little sheep that fall into lock step with these villains who want nothing more than to destroy our President at all cost, and set back our nation and our people.
Yesterday is a great example of such insanity, with the fake outrage attacks against the people who are doing what is best for our Nation.
job1
You just described the Tea party. They are doing what is BEST for this nation. Your President is the problem. Now they will come out in force. 2010 was a warm up. Hang on.
The tea bag people are not doing what's best for the Nation. They are a group of people that don't know anything and 2010 in not going to happen in 2012,
In 2010 hardly anyone voted. Remember this group of TB formed less than a month after the President took office, and I think we all what they are really about.
Romney can pack it up because he in nothing more than a lying empty suit that that can't take a position.
It seems to me that Romney's whole platform is Obama is bad, so vote for me because that is all you have left. I have not heard one descriptive solution on anything from Romney. He won't even talk to the media.
Obamacare is bad. I will replace on day one. With what? No more questions please / Immigration policy is bad. I will replace day one. With what? No more questions please / Nothing done on the economy. I will fix it day one. How? No more questions please / I will balance the budget on day one without tax increases. How? No more questions please
How can anyone support this???? The answer: No more questions please!!!
Replacing Obamacare for Willard will be very easy, he will strikeout Obama and replace it with Romney. RWNJs will stand in a circle and spank the monkey.
robone, good points. Romney may think he can continue to avoid specifics but voters want specifics; long about August they will demand them. He also risks alienating the press which he needs. I noticed he did not get the GOPTP memo to say that he wants to "repeal" only.
It will be interesting to see if any of his specifics come out in the debates or if he too is a Pivot King.
Ideology Where did your Canadian politeness go? You have been hanging around here too much.
dang! for a moment, I thought the TP/GOP would say that "life begins at erection"...
I've always wondered about the logistics of "prayer breakfasts". Seems like they shouldn't bother to order food in advance. Just wait for everyone to show up, then clasp hands and ask God to drop mana from heaven. I mean, that always works, right?
The Republican Death Party wants to deprive 30 million Americans their access to life saving health insurance. They were also for big tobacco and defended their donor tobacco corporations from Congressional investigation.
100,000 innocent Iraqis and 4,450 American military were killed by their war in Iraq. The Death Party wants your vote so that they may continue killing.
