Romney: To get rid of 'ObamaCare,' must replace Obama

WASHINGTON -- Mitt Romney condemned the Supreme Court's ruling upholding the president's health-care reform law, and called for opponents of the law to support him if they wish to see the law repealed.

"This is a time of choice for the American people," Romney said from a rooftop overlooking the Capitol. "Our mission is clear: If we want to get rid of 'ObamaCare,' we're going to have replace President Obama."

The presumptive Republican nominee, who spoke for four minutes and did not take questions, said that while the Supreme Court chose not to strike down the law as unconstitutional, he will work to repeal the act which he considers bad law and bad policy.

"As you might imagine, I disagree with the Supreme Court's decision," Romney said, "and I agree with the dissent. What the court did not do on its last day in session, I will do on my first day if elected president of the United States -- and that is I will act to repeal 'ObamaCare.'"

Romney, who has long been haunted by his support for an individual mandate, similar to the one undergirding President Obama's reform package, did not mention the mandate specifically today and did not take questions. He instead focused his ire on the law's tax and deficit implications.

"Obamacare raises taxes on the American people by approximately 500 billion dollars," Romney said. "'ObamaCare' cuts Medicare, cuts Medicare by approximately $500 billion, and even with those cuts and tax increases, 'ObamaCare' ads trillions to our deficits and to our national debts, and pushes those obligations on to coming generations."

Romney also broadly laid out some of the "real reform" he would enact to replace the Affordable Care Act, calling for legislation to help keep health-care costs down, keep insured those with preexisting conditions who had been continuously covered, and support state-based reform efforts.

Mittens, you looked like you had been sucker punched...

You were so sure that you were going to win, weren't you? Making smarmy comments yesterday about how your President probably wasn't sleeping well. Came back and bit you right in the, well, you know.

Here's the thing Mittens. I realize you can sense that the bright, shiny toy, the White House, that you and Annie feel you are entitled to have is slipping away.

But that is because you don't care about the American people. You care only about what it is you want, and when you want to have it.

You are wearing badly, Mittens. I wouldn't be packing for the White House just yet.

we "...must replace Obama"...are you tired of sound bites??? then please stop given this ignoramus air time.

I normally do not like a lot conservative ideas, but this one called the ACA that our president adopted, while not perfect is a step in the right direction.

As long as our ER rooms can not turn away individuals w/o health insurance, we would rightly have a tax that covers this luxury... we as Americans are used to luxuries and not like paying for it. I repeat this is a conservative idea, and I applaud it... too bad the neocons hate it.

Mitt Romney is a little man. A sly little toad who has the cadillac of health care plans all for himself. He has an income of $57,000 per day c/o nefarious Bain and can afford more than most folks can ever dream about.

All folks are asking is the security of health care for THEIR families, THEIR children. Just like all the families in the other developed nations.

In his remarks today, the President explains the great returns that folks are already getting from ACA, even before 2014.

The ACA has been saving lives. Romney's exploits have destroyed lives and the future of whole communities.

Run away and play little man Romney.

Our love to you Phine. I know you are not well.

Spread the word of the Affordable Care Act to others, so they can feel more secure about their health care, as it becomes more and more available. President Obama is working very hard for ordinary Americans. The ACA is saving lives and keeping families together.

The Romney Brigade is working for the top one-tenth of one percent of Americans who would have him do their bidding, at any expense to the rest of America.

Romney again pushes for repealing the ACA first thing if elected. Yet, he still offers no plan if elected. Drop some 20 million off the ranks of the insured, and have no plan for them? But then again, he did say now that he liked some of the ACA - no denial of coverage for people with pre-existing conditions, keeping kids on their parents plan til 26 years of age.

But no idea what to do with the 20 million or so that would be dropped from coverage if he repeals it? And what's with his rant that people will not be able to keep the coverage they now have? Thought that myth was debunked from the start.

That's all you got Mitt? Vote for me so 20 million can lose coverage with no idea how to help them?

No logic there, Romney. Like the old "If you don't support the war, you don't support the troops" BS. How the heck does it matter who is in the White House and what Congress, or now the SCOTUS will do in regard to "Obamacare?" Does Romney thinks this is a dictatorship? Oh, I see, he plans to make it a dictatorship (otherwise known as a plutocracy).

Hey Romney -- Didn't you get the memo from Boehner? You're not supposed to say "repeal and replace," just "repeal." Yeh, let's hear about the "replace" plan you have...oh wait, do that after you release your tax returns...

What a total hypocrite Romney is!

What Romeny calls "ObamaCare," is modeled after the plan that Mitt enacted while he was governor of Massachusettes.

Romney will say anything to galvanize the right wing and hoodwink "the rest of us." If we are fooled by his glib talk, Mitt will blunder his way into the White House and sink the middle class and the poor. Mitt is talking about repealing this HISTORIC life-saving event that will save the lives of countless Americans. At the same time, he smoothly tells us that the 1% need more wealth to help the populace. With this Supreme Court decision, President Obama has earned his well-deserved place in history books for generations to come. Unite Americans!

Stand behind President Obama and vote to get him re-elected!

So one of Romney's proposals after he repeals Obamacare is to "keep insured those with preexisting conditions who had been continuously covered". How does that help those who can't get insurance because they have pre-existing conditions? It's not the ones who already have insurance that need help, it's the ones who have been denied insurance because of pre-existing conditions. Is he deliberately being dense and hoping no one will notice?

If they don't know how far they are from the majority of Americans then it will be the demise of their party and they will not be able to collect their disgusting benefits from the greedy group within the 1%. A development that can't be polled and is totally closeted due to the danger. Rednecks for Obama.

Reporting from the progressive safe bunker in Dixie. First came the howling, then the sound of moonshine hitting gullets, then the "where's my shotgun". After our 'Perrier toast and commie happy dance', we checked on our kin folk. Through loud sobs, some whispered when can I get this?

In November the bunkers will be full. Many southerners will vote for the health and prosperity of their families. Many still hate "that" president. They hate their unemployment and lack of medical care more.

Out&proud southern progressive. Obama/Biden 2012.

Repeal of any law is damn near impossible in our present congressional configuration and it is almost beyond belief that one who pioneered the main part of the bill is against it now. Let's see now;

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office now says that Obamacare, which was supposed to be 'revenue neutral', will likely cost $1.76 Trillion (link below), so who's going to pay for this massive new 'entitlement'?

The 'rich'? No, because they already have health insurance, so they don't have to pay the fine/tax.

The 'poor'? No, because they get free health insurance from the government thru Medicaid- paid by taxpayers.

Let's see now, who's left to pay for it? Oh yes - the Middle Class. This could be the biggest tax increase in history on the Middle Class.

When they find they've been 'snookered' by Obama, I doubt that they will be very happy.

Remember how Obama said "I pledge that any families making less than $250,000 per year will not have to pay any increased taxes - not one dime"? Well guess what - the Supreme Court says Obamacare is OK because it's a TAX.

Remember this in November.

Khaleeshe "The only people that would have to pay would be those without insurance - the ones that freeload in the emergency rooms all over the country."

So who pays the estimated $1.76 Trillion cost of Obamacare?

By the way - Obamacare does not change anything for the illegal immigrants who go to emergency rooms - the penalty only applies to those who file tax returns, and since most illegal immigrants get paid in cash 'under the table', they don't file a tax return.

This, my friend, is projection CBO thinks it will cost. It's not set in stone. And, if this is a major concern then why hasn't anybody reported it, in detail? Because it comes from a Republicon source.

Good spin, buddy, free daily news published in Springfield, VA, and distributed to Washington DC via owner, billionaire, Philip Anschutz.

The Congressional Budget Office is controlled by Anschutz?! This huge shortfall is old news. One certainly should not expect the liberal media to spread this news around. Who's going to pay? Since only 51% of wage earners pay federal income tax, it would appear that the Republican middle class will pay most of it. The other middle class taxpayers should take this into consideration in November.

To paraphrase what Romney just proclaimed to the Press:

"To get rid of Obamacare we must convince all Americans to vote against their own interests."

Fox News commentator Sean Hannity actually said this:

"We can convince the American people that Obamacare is a bad idea, a terrible idea. The free markets should decide." Two minutes later, "Fox News, "Fair and Balanced," appeared on the screen. (...yeah, right).

So Fox News wants to convince all of us to vote against health care for children that can't afford their own insurance, and deprive everyone else that isn't wealthy enough to get (un)affordable and comprehensive health care, and allow the insurance industry to get the hospitals to turn away people with pre-existing conditions?

How unique - someone that thinks the CBO is a 'Republican source'. Then why does the Democratic Party quote it so often as their source for reliable information.

By the way - the CBO projections are based on the 'assumptions' given them by the Democratic Party - like the one about Obama claiming that he would cut $500 Billion from Medicare by 'eliminating waste and abuse', which he still hasn't found 3 years later. The reality, based on history, is that the $1.76 Trillion cost of Obamacare will likely be more like $3 Trillion.

If elected Romney doesn't even have to repeal ObamaCare, just follow in the precedent set by Obama and choose not to enforce the law. Make a public announcement of any aspect of the law that the federal government will not enforce, and direct the appropriate agencies and department heads to follow his directive. That is the same tactic used on immigration, so there is no reason why it will not work for ObamaCare.

Well, it's already happening boys and girls. Mom went to doc today and he told her because of Obamacare funding taking a lot of money (206 Billion CBO new estimate) out of Medicare advantage, as of the first of the year he is no longer accepting medicare advantage and she should look for a new doc. She's only been going to the guy for 25 years so much for keeping your own doc. I guess you can't take 500 billion out of medicare and not have that happen.

Heard an estimate today on CNBC that 75% of the new taxes will effect those making 120k and below. Wasn't there a George Bush 1 moment about " no new taxes on anyone making under 250k, not a dime".

Things like you can no longer use your Flexible Spending Account to buy over the counter meds.

People with medical problems use to could write off medical expense over 7.5k Obamacare raises that to 10k

There use to not be a limit on contributions to a HSA, FSA etc. Obamacare caps that at 2.5k now.

So in order to get people help in the medical area, the low and middle income now loose lots of benefits they already have above? There are more i have found about 20. To pay for medical benefits, they are cutting medical benefits?

A lot of the states will probably not set up exchanges for cost. I learned today that if the feds set up the exchanges that there is NO FUNDING to provide the subsidies they advertise.

Holy cow this thing gets more "interesting" every day as i look into this.

Another goody, everyone on Medicare will have to get "end of life counseling", not once but a minimum of every 5 years. If sick or in nursing home more often. Once not enough, and more importantly who pays the tab for the close to 50 million people to get this.

According to the decision, it was deemed a tax for the purposes of determining constitutionality. However, it was deemed not a tax for the purposes of the Anti-Injunctions Act (which is the one that says you can't bring a lawsuit until the tax is collected...aka 2014). Well, now that we are being hailed from outer space, this article/survey is timely. Good news for Obama that overwhelmingly, Americans trust Obama to negotiate with these aliens.

A new survey finds that 80 million Americans, or 36 percent of the population, believe UFOs are real. One in 10 respondents say they have personally witnessed an alien spaceship. And if aliens were to invade the country sometime in the next four years, 65 percent of survey respondents said President Obama would be better suited for handling the invasion than Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

I believe Roberts was referring to the penalty that will be assessed on those who do not get themselves covered in one of the many plans that will be available AND made affordable. This penalty will be collected by the IRS when you file your taxes. It's a one time thing so it won't be assessed quarterly. The amount will be $95.00 or 1% of total annual income. We will have to prove we have coverage.

I'm not sure I know how Romney came up with his claim that our taxes will be raised $500 billion! I just know that Romney probably can barely use a calculator or has any real math skills. If he wasn't just having another foot-mouth attack, then he got this claim from his right wing extremist party. You should probably just dismiss that number as it most likely is another of their many BS lines.

The important thing to understand is that the Affordable Care Act is NOT unconstitutional. No, not in any way. And everyone who does not watch only FAUX, so called NEWS, already knew that. And certainly our President Obama who is a Constitutional lawyer and was a lecturer at university on Constitutional law. Only the right wingers thought they could get away with telling the people Obama was so dumb that he made the Affordable Health Care Act unconstitutional.

Space case: 40% already are currently receiving government healthcare from medicaid, medicare, VA, the president and congress and many federal employee's all unaffected. 40% already have insurance or employer health plans and again will be unaffected. The 20% who remain will be required to buy at least minimal insurance or pay a penalty beginning at around $8 a month maxing at around $85 a month or depending on income will receive a subsidy to help them pay it. Illegals would not qualify but will continue to use emergency rooms as they always have. Anyone from another country who was simply after free health care wouldn't find it here but would in France, Canada, England, Italy etc. etc. you might get better responses if you simply made your concerns known instead of trying to be clever.

Romney will come back later in a few months and take credit for it.

      As for Romney's claims:

"Obamacare raises taxes on the American people by approximately 500 billion dollars," Romney said. "'ObamaCare' cuts Medicare, cuts Medicare by approximately $500 billion, and even with those cuts and tax increases, 'ObamaCare' ads trillions to our deficits and to our national debts, and pushes those obligations on to coming generations."

Can you point me to the real analysis, is it the one by the CBO?

      I'm not finding this credible.

Note as Romney delivers the message from a rooftop above the whitehouse.

He lives in the sky in his own special heaven.

He and Anne ride off into the sunset on their Olympic horses. Well cared for and content.

Knobson, for starters google "CBO medicare advantge cuts" and the first post is from AHIP and speaks of 200 Billion in cuts and taxes that will probably gut that program. That's why AARP supported Obamacare, because it will drive seniors towards their Medigap and much higher prices. AARP gets a large cut of that.

        Mitt Romney

"This is a time of choice for the American people," Romney said from a rooftop overlooking the Capitol. "Our mission is clear: If we want to get rid of 'ObamaCare,' we're going to have replace President Obama."

Ok so what your telling us dumb people is that when you were governor and you were all for this SAME kind of heath care bill, i did not here people in Massachusetts, saying we need to get rid of Romney care and you Mr Romney.

so i must ask, is a mandate for all Americans bad, but the same mandate is ok for the people in Massachusetts. Sir you are talking out of your butt.

you should be glad they high court upheld this law, because if not then the Massachusetts high court could very well strike down the health care plan you put your john Hancock on while governor.

If i were you i would shut the he*l up and find something else to Bi&ch about. because this argument you are on is going to keep you from the white house.

also if you do bescome president how are you going to see that fact people in Massachusetts have state sponsored health care but the rest of American don't deserve it.

        Man shut up. please.

And for those thinking Repeal is the only answer...

To repeal AHCA, (Obamacare) you must win a majority in both houses. Not only a majority.. but a super majority in the Senate, unless of course the Repbulicans decide to change the rules to kill the Fillibuster. Wouldn't put it past them, but Repeal is a hard course, and not very likely.

Once the 'repeal it' delerium goes away we will be left with how legislation like this should be...pass it with a majority (which it did), survive the constitutionality challenge (and they did) and then amand/fix the bill in smaller amended bills.

Thats the way it used to work. Simpole majority gets it passed through both houses, it gets signed and later strngthemned, amended or fixed via compramise...because NO BILL Is a perfect bill.

Deciphering Romney speak: keeping health care costs down = national tort reform to screw lawyers even though that adds only 1-2 percent to the costs. Keeping health care costs down = gutting some states' basic coverage mandates and regulations by allowing insurance companies to sell from any state to unsuspecting insureds. Like any insurance, it's too late when you need insurance to find out that you have bad insurance. And finally, I'll require coverage for pre-existing conditions = provided you are employed, stay employed and already have insurance.

How any person that started this health-care innitiative in the state that he once governed. Be so now against it, only confirms his moniker of being a "Flip-Flopper". Never once did the GOP try to assist in the making of this law, all they ever did was fight it hand tooth and nail. And for Romney to come up and try to eliminate this law, even though it is modeled after his own law. Once again leaves a lot to be desired from this GOP candidate. This man reminds me of a warm and flat 7up... He never had it and he never will...

        Go figure, then go vote...

To get rid of Empty Suit Romney, we must all go to the polls this November--and take everyone we know along-- and vote to re-elect President Barack Obama.

Then Mittens will shut up and go away. He has no role in this country beyond November 6. His blank face and empty words will be soon forgotten. He can go to Switzerland and roll around in his money for all anyone will care.

so Bob you telling us you would rather for a guy that on one hand wanted state sponsered heath care while he was governor, but now he is running for president thinks its a bad idea. man your all messed up.

what Ronmey did in Massachusetts was the model for Obama care, Massachusetts per capita is the healthest state in the country because of what he did and Obama is Only following his lead,

If you want a guy that goes against things he did in the past that was sucessfull , the vote for him, he will repeal healthcare reform and if you get sick and your health care proovider drops you because you hit your max or can't get a new plan because of pre-existing conditions, then man you deserve to die a slow painfull death.

I don't want to sound too stupid but I believe only the congress can repeal any law. Romney must be relying on getting a bunch of his party into office. I believe the health care problem would be solved overnight if congress and their staff had to buy health care on the open market like we do. Some could not buy coverage like us. Some would have pre-existing conditions like us and some would pay a king's ramson for what they get like us. No wonder these folks like to be in office so much. It would be nice to raise hundreds of millions by telling people you are going to vote for what they want. Congress caused this financial mess by voting to deregulate the financial markets and lowering taxes while fighting two wars. Now they want to lecture us on what we should and should not want. What a joke. I have not seen one workable Republican idea to fix health care. Now I won't.

Get rid of Obama?? He's actually getting rid of himself. Little by little, day by day. He is building a case against the Democratic party.

This ruling by the SCOTUS is the latest nail in Obama's political coffin. People are unclear what a mandate is. People are confused about insurance. People understand very well what a new tax is, and they don't like it.

Careful what you wish for Barrack baby, you just might get it.

Nobody needs insurance if they can be dropped when they make a claim. This is America, dammit. We do not give a crap about life, liberty, and happiness, unless it's for ME!

Hey, I've got an idea, why don't we tax capital gains like ordinary income and let Wilbur pay his fair share he's been avoiding for years at Bain. That's the ticket Wilbur, everybody pays their fair share, not just those who can get a lobbied for tax loophole. Our work force will be healthier and our families more financially assurred. No bankruptcies for people that have a pre-existing condition and no death sentences like my next door neighbor received when he couldn't get insurance. He died to save his small house and car for his son, although his cancer had progressed rapidly since his doctor felt a lump.
