It was indeed a 5-4 decision, but with Chief Justice Roberts voting with the liberal majority.

Supreme Court is one of the three branches of our great government. They made the ruling on the ACA and that's it. Its great President Obama and the mainly (at the time) Democratic Congress passed and approved it but also on a purely individual basis it will help out 30 million American's. That's ten percent of our country men and women. Also will insure that Americans with pre-existing conditions will get health care coverage. Now if someone really really has a problem with that just leave the country. Get out, go live in another country somewhere else, GO GET OUT. But if your staying here stop the whining and crying and hating the President, that's childish and not even called for. Its a good day for America and like I said if you really don't like it - GET OUT!!!!!
The bankrupting of America is now complete. Be careful what you ask for. Think unemployment is high now? Just wait... more businesses will flee the US and or close. Socialism is a proven failure.
Your statement that the bankrupting of America is wrong. The bankrupting of America occurred when Wall Street was allowed to police itself and when the housing market collapsed due to the banking industries misdeeds.
Your statement is also in error because the United States of American can only function properly if it has a little bit of socialism, a little bit of communisim, a bit of capitalism and any other ism you can think of. You cannot operate a strong country when it is totally one sided.

Well heck, color me shocked that the SC ruled in favor of the ACA. Color me even more shocked that Roberts ruled in favor of the act.
I am happy that the Health Care bill was upheld so that 30 million people could receive the care they need. What is a little confusing to me is that the Republicans are now saying that our taxes will go up. Recently, I saw on the Lawrence O'Donnell Show that the IRS could not come after you if you did not comply with the law. Did anyone else see this written in the law?
Reply to Rita311: Have you forgotten Nancy Pelosi said "Let's just sign it and we'll read it later". Does that answer your question about who has seen the 3,000+ page document? I understand why you are confused. Why else would you be happy the Health Care bill was passed. A leads to B which leads to C....maybe you get the picture but probably not. Of course taxes are going to go up. Our medical system is not comprised of missionaries. The current tax code changes as of Jan 1st, 2013 regardless of who will be president. The Health Care bill is big government intruding into people's lives and it will only get worse. Me, I am glad Eric Cantor is bringing this up for repeal July 17th. I also hope Obama is a one term president.
so now that Americans without health care will be "taxed" as a penalty - illegals get to use America's health care systems. for free in many states including mine and who pays for the "flood" of folks applying for state assistance for medical. This is a real question and not intended as any type of bash against anyone. From what I have read part of the bill includes making insurance available to all however, if you are a sick person (chronic disease) there isnt a real cap on what they can charge you for having insurance.
A great day for America and Americans. Once again we see that our system can and does work. While Washington is broken, indeed, there is a ray of hope after all.
I'm not too smart, but I am 83 years old, and the road hasn't been smooth all the time. But my past tells me that somebody is in somebodies pocket.
So can we now stop calling this the affordable care act and call it what it is, the affordable care tax. And, if you cheat on your bill or refuse to pay, that would be tax evasion or tax fraud, a federal crime?
Apparently many are happy and many are not - geez go figure! No matter what Wash DC does, not everyone will be happy. The one thing that amazes me is that WE the People have no idea what we want from our government that is supposed to be By the People and For the People. We tolerate the pathetic, piss-poor, excuse of government that we have elected, we accept the finger pointing, the lack of real action and meaningful, thoughtful legislation to solve the real problems of our society and then we have balls to complain. We the People are the board of directors, they, the elected officals are the management staff and they are not getting the job done - both parties are guilty of back-stabbing, haggling, finger-pointing, lack of action and being only interested in either not doing anything or doing everything to prevent anything from being done.
A sad sad day for American businesses and the American people that are barely struggling to pay for their own health insurance.
Obama has taken the pride and incentive out of taking care of ones self, now all you have to do is pay a $75 fine and everyone else is stuck paying your medical bills.
If you thought the unemployment rate was high, wait until you see how businesses will turn the lock and close the doors on hiring, especially small businesses who cannot afford to pay for employee insurance.
This could have been a great victory, but until Obama can lower health care costs, nobody won a thing here. The good people, that pay their bills, take care of their own and are smart enough to buy health insurance are the ones getting penalized here.
I think I'll drop my health insurance tomorrow,, pay the $75 and let Obama figure out what a sink hole he's just created in America. A sad , sad day for Americans.
I am so happy that your Health care act was not struck down. In Canada our health care act is sacred. Neither conservatives or liberals would dare mess with it. Take heart and someday even the RWNJ's will come to love it!
The Constitution only grants Congress the authority to lay a tax on property. When it was first proposed to tax income it caused such controversy that it could only be resolved by the 16th Amendment which granted the Federal government the power to tax income. The Constitution does not grant the Federal government the authority to tax "not doing something". "Not buying insurance" is neither property nor is it income.
Military Members, Veterans, Military retirees; note that Romney PROMOTED THE DRAFT during the Viet Nam War,
then skipped out to France for extraordinary length of time when church missionary tours were limited.
When Romney came home, he sided with his dad that the whole Viet Nam War was a scam and that he
was against the war. Promoting the draft, while Americans were dieing, he skipped out, then says he
wishes he could have participated. His whole life has been a lie.
Romney is a COWARD, Lying, Draft Dodger, who promoted someone else to die for him, that is
his way of management. One may want anyone but Obama, but this guy ranks with Jane Fonda and
should not be given anything or elected for anything. A low life human being who has risen to the top
because of his families money.

My heart goes out to the special military members who served and died in the line of service in Viet Nam.

Romney served his mission in France, and was extended extra time there which was not authorized
under draft conditions.

So what, he promoted the draft under duress situation for draftees, before he left for France.
