Romney calls Obamacare 'moral failure' on eve of Supreme Court ruling

 

STERLING, Va. -- Mitt Romney reserved some of his harshest criticism of President Barack Obama's health care reform law for the eve of the Supreme Court ruling that will decide its fate, labeling the law as "moral failure" by a president who chose to focus on healthcare, rather than jobs, at a time of national economic crisis.

"His policies were not focused on creating jobs. They were focused on implementing his liberal agenda. There’s nothing wrong with people having an agenda, but when the country’s in crisis, you have a moral responsibility to focus on helping people come out of that crisis," Romney said at a rally here Wednesday evening. "It was not just bad policy; it was a moral failure to put forward a piece of legislation that wouldn’t help Americans get back to work, and to focus the energy of the White House on Obamacare."

With the Supreme Court expected to rule on the constitutionality of the law – which includes the individual mandate -- on Thursday morning, Romney took the opportunity to batter the controversial law before a friendly, energetic audience, suggesting that Obama will spend a sleepless night tonight fretting about the future of the legislation.


"My guess is they're not sleeping real well at the White House tonight. That's the way it ought to be," Romney said. "And this is a decision, by the way, about whether or not Obamacare is constitutional, whether it passes constitutional muster.  So we're all waiting to see how the court will decide, one thing we already know however -- we already know it's bad policy and it's got to go."

Romney went on to preview, as he did at a campaign stop in southern Virginia on Tuesday, his response to the court's possible action on the law. The former Massachusetts governor said that if the law is upheld, he would work to repeal it as president, and if it gets struck down, he would replace it with "real reform." Romney did not specify what such reforms would entail.

Democrats quickly pounced on Romney's critique of the law, pointing out that the federal law was inspired by Massachusetts’s health care law that Romney helped to enact, complete with an individual mandate similar to the one he now assails.

“In Virginia today, Mitt Romney cheered for a repeal of Obamacare, which was modeled after Romney’s own health care law in Massachusetts that he now runs away from," Obama spokeswoman Lis Smith said in the statement. "But Americans won’t be cheering for Mitt Romney after they learn that his plan for health care would allow insurance companies to discriminate against them if they have a pre-existing condition, kick their kids off their parents’ plans when they graduate, and charge women higher premiums than they charge men for the same coverage."

          Obama made a choice to make healthcare affordable to all-get it- to ALL. That means for all the people who are not affluent. All is the rest of us who are well outside of a six figure income. We don't have the luxury of sending out a check each month(That can pay our rent or home mortgage) like its no big deal-To pay for healthcare, so we are greatful for a President like Obama who cares about the rest of us to do what he did for us! To the few of you suck it up and deal with it cause in the end everyone will benifit from Obamacare. If you don't agree then move to another country and get out of my face sucker!

            Yes, Obama is a moral failure. We are the only industrialized country in the world that doesn't provide SOME form of universal health care coverage -- coverage which is, of course, immoral.

            That makes us the only moral nation on the entire planet. And, following Mitt Romney's advice on college loans and THEIR immorality, if I get terribly sick, I can always borrow money from my parents and shop around for the cheapest oncologist.

            If this guy and his "sky is falling" psychological set is ever put into the White House, we can all sit back, watch the corporations and the extremely wealthy rule the country, and blame the Democrats for their immorality. Due to Citizens United and the NRA, there may BE no more Democrats. In that case, we'll have to invent one.

            The Moral high ground regarding health care of those who cannot afford the high price and demonizing of the health care industry belongs to the Dems. Clinton and Obama both went into the moral fabric of acting as a steward for its citizens: those that have been reduced to lower than middle class.

            Romney's moral statement is a joke, a farce and a slap in the face of those int his country who now working until age 70 and beyond, faced with a GOP agenda to end SS and Medicare and all entitlements, and leave the country in the hands of those who caused this recession - Wall Street, Hedge fund managers, corporations and all the remaining jackals who support the Super Pacs.

            The Moral ground was attempted when the POTUS attempted to do something for our country and was met by opposition in the manner of the Nazis - who will end up shooting themselves in the foot.

              The SCOTUS is not supposed to consider the will of the people, their # 1 purpose is to consider the constitutionality of laws passed by the other two branches of Gov't Secondly decide court cases that flow up to the court thru the department of justice accordingly

Only thing in it that is good is the part about not denying people medical for past problems. Also congress needs to allow people to buy across states lines. That would drop the price to being affordable again. Take away the monopoly in states would lower the prices. You think if something is given to you its your god given right. Well its not yours. It is the American tax payers. This was a very unconstitutional bill to begin with. Wait I forgot liberals and Romney don't know what we were founded on.                   To the clueless, including Romney: yes, there was an economic crisis which proved deeper and more problematic than anyone thought in the spring and summer of 2009. But, Progressives (and even Nixon) have been working on health care reform since 1948 (if you don't count Teddy Roosevelt's early attempts), and the legislative majorities that Obama seemingly had only come alone once in a generation or more (Reagan never had these majorities). Working on health care reform wasn't squandered time. Who could have anticipated that the GOP would block the seating of Sen. Franken for 8 months. Who could have foreseen Ted Kennedy's death. And no one expected the GOP to gum up the legislative system at every turn for 13 months including masquerading town hall meetings to whip up opposition. No, I don't think it was Obama wasting time. After all he practically rammed the bill through.

Everything politicians say is designed to appear that they care about what happens to us, not to actually commit to any action. So I ask both would be candidates, what solutions do you have, that you will actually keep your word on?                   How do you come to that conclusion when much of the plan has not been activated? Want to outline what parts of it are a failure? The same plan activated in Massecusets singed on by Mitt Romney is working very well. Romney once said that plan would be the model for the country.

                  Having said that, I don't like the plan for other reasons. The smart way to go is Medicare for everyone. That system is up and running so we will not have to create another beauracracy and be forced to hire more government workers.

                  What we have as problems all stem from money matters. We are engaged in serious empire building, what with a thousand bases around the world and taking what we want from countires like Iraq, not for Americans, but for the International Oil companies. Check it out. The oil that Cheney said would pay for the war is not ever going to do that as the contracts for the oil, at American gun-point, have all gone to the world wide oil industry and so we pay for the war with our taxes and we pay for it at the pump.

                  Then there is, connected to all that, the Military Industrial Complex that sucks up so much cash we literally can't find out what it all is. Many expenditures are off budget and not counted as military spending.

                  We don't need that crap. What we need is for Americans to be for America. If we are going to have foreign relations such as trade, we have to make sure those deals are good for us and not yet another vacuum cleaner to suck away our wealth

                  All that ails this country is not so much about spending, even as I would agree it's excessive, it is about where and how it is spent. Going to war all over the world does not protect your ass but a decent health care system will.

                    This fool (Romney) is constantly harping his anti-Obama rhetoric without taking any responsibility himself for anything. He switches sides almost every day on every issue of any importance. The man is worthless. He loves to cast stones while being filled with sins of his own. Rom now says that Obama has done nothing to focus on creating jobs. This accusation is totally laughable coming from the creator of Bain and one who is totally responsible for shipping American jobs overseas to China and India for cheap labor. And, under Bain, he bought a company, made promises to employees, took a government bailout making himself lots of money and then his high morality demonstrated itself when he closed the company down breaking every promise he had made to the employees and leaving them and their families destitute. He says he's not concerned about the poor and he's definitely proven that to be true. And, he has off-shore bank accounts which he uses to avoid paying legitimate taxes. Oh man, I love this paragon of virtue, truthfulness and compassion. Yep, he is definitely the guy we need to become President and leader of the free world. Well, he's the guy if you're super-wealthy, don't give a sh*t for ordinary Americans and could care less about democracy because you worship the almighty dollar. Talk about a moral failure, Rom is definitely our boy.
