NBC/WSJ poll: Six in 10 say Obama inherited current economy

Another set of numbers from our new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll: 60 percent say President Obama inherited the current economic conditions, compared with 26 percent who blame his policies for the state of the economy.

That's a slight change from Aug. 2011, when 56 percent said the president inherited the economy, versus 33 percent who singled out his policies.

Yet when asked in a separate question whether the president’s policies have helped or hurt the economy, 33 percent say they’ve hurt; 32 percent say they’ve helped; and another 32 percent answer that they haven’t made much of a difference.

The full NBC/WSJ poll -- which was conducted of 1,000 adults and which has a margin of error of plus-minus 3.1 percentage points -- is released at 6:30 pm ET.

At least there is something between their ears. You possess the "great void".

Let us see.. Romney fired hundreds, outsourced government jobs to India, and made us pay 44 million to the pensions of his fired workers. I think we see the problem. RomBush

Let's see..... For those who only hear about these failing companies one by one, the following is a list of all the clean energy companies supported by President Obama’s stimulus that are now failing or have filed for bankruptcy. The liberal media hopes you’ve forgotten about all of them except Solyndra, but we haven’t.

    Evergreen Solar
    SpectraWatt
    Solyndra (received $535 million)
    Beacon Power (received $43 million)
    AES’ subsidiary Eastern Energy
    Nevada Geothermal (received $98.5 million)
    SunPower (received $1.5 billion)
    First Solar (received $1.46 billion)
Babcock & Brown (an Australian company which received $178 million)
Ener1 (subsidiary EnerDel received $118.5 million)
    Amonix (received 5.9 million)
    The National Renewable Energy Lab
    Fisker Automotive
    Abound Solar (received $400 million)
Chevy Volt (taxpayers basically own GM)
    Solar Trust of America
    A123 Systems (received $279 million)
Willard & Kelsey Solar Group (received $6 million)
    Johnson Controls (received $299 million)
    Schneider Electric (received $86 million)

That’s 19 (that we know of so far). We also know that loans went to foreign clean energy companies (Fisker sent money to their overseas plant to develop an electric car), and that 80% of these loans went to President Obama’s campaign donors.

The President is trying to claim in his first official campaign ad that he’s created 2.7 million clean energy jobs. When you look at all the companies going bankrupt, some of those jobs might have been paid for by the stimulus, but they are gone now. You can’t claim we’re up 2.7 million jobs if so many of those jobs have been subsequently lost.

Keep this list in mind the next time the media pretends that Solyndra was the only failure.

I think we see the problem... we sent an inept, community organizer to do a CEO's job.

dal, You described exactly what Obama did with GM. Nice try. Pathetic, but nice try.

Obama's jobs czar shut down divisions of his own company and sent them to China, that's what Obama thinks about unemployment and outsourcing.

Now for the truth,...the economy cratered under Bush for a variety of reasons. Obama inherited nothing, as he campaigned for the job, claiming he could fix it. Then Obama made the economy worse by continuing the worst of the Bush policies, and throwing in some completely whacked stuff of his own.

If Obama cannot be blamed for any era, then neither could Bush. By Obama's method of blaming Bush, that means any Bush failures were Clinton's fault.

Both Bush and Obama have their problems, Obama is way worse for campaigning against many Bush policies that he kept, and then blamed Bush for. History will show a much better economy under most of the Bush years, Obama has had no good years.

Obama would lose on the economy, debt, foreign policy, energy policy, and that is just the short list.

The only thing that comes to mind that he got right was the national park gun bill, and he did not block the Osama smack down, although it is reported that he wanted to block it.

Since Reid co sponsored the gun bill Obama wouldn't dare veto it.

How about those fast and furious emails that show democrats were planning to use it to further gun control efforts. If those emails were released, one can only wonder what Obama is blocking from release.

maybe you're going to deny that obama inherited 2 wars that have cost americans trillions of dollars and destroyed 2 countries ????

Bush never gave a dime for these wars, he borrowed the money and now obama has to pay the bills... so you wonder why the deficit is going up ?? well there is your answer !

How much do you think 1.3 million military personnel cost ???? how about over 260 military bases around the world... and now you're surprised that america is broke ??

This is socialism pal, republican socialism !!! your taxes are paying for these folies and republicans are responsable for this, too !

Herein lies the lesson. Romney may not be the answer, but Obama definitely isn't.

The WH is seeing its base slowly but surely deteriorate before their eyes. The Latinos don't favor Romney but they feel that Obama did absolutely nothing to help them during the first 3 and1/2 years of his term, then pander for their votes by offering a meaningless temporary amnesty that will only result in more grief for them. In addition, they know that Obama pushed for the highest deportation of illegals of any modern president.

The African-Americans see Obama as throwing them under the bus for Latino pandering as well as doing nothing to help their continuing high unemployment while supporting other groups, such as the unions and his hollywood friends.

It is correct to say that Obama inherited a bad economy but instead of making it better, he make it worse. The current economy is entirely Obama's and if the guy had any leadership qualities he would take responsibility for the past 3 years and stop blaming others.

Power should not be with a political party --- Republican or Democrat. It should be with the people. The only way we can straighten out this mess is to create a 'balance of power' with both parties fighting each other to a stalemate then neither can hurt us.

Why do you think the Bush family bought 100 000 acres of land in Paraguay that has a huge aquifer under ???? You don't think it is for a vacations, do you ??

Bush and the republicans knew of the long term consequances of their policies and they knew that one day americans will revolt, this is why they bought that land so they can flee and not be prosecuted ! Bush made sure that he bought land in a country that has no extradition laws. This is where fascists go !

Also the republican party built a private army of mercenaries with your tax dollars, Blackwater ! Actually, the economy now is much, much better than it was when Obama inherited it. My business has been rising steadily almost since he came into office. In the last four years under Bush, I had to drop my rates to half of what they are now just to get work at all. It's still not as good as it was during the Clinton years. My concern is that if Romney gets elected it will all crash back to where it was at the end of Bush's term.

Third Way.... are you a male escort in D.C.? That would explain why your economic fortunes are 180 degrees in opposition to those of most Americans.

Obama didn't INHERIT a damn thing. He ASKED for the job and spent hundreds of millions campaigning for it. He said he could and was ready to handle the job of President and he could work across party lines. He (Obama) said he was going to have the most transparent administration ever.

We now know that he wasn't up to the job, had no experience in running anything, could not bring the people together, let his ego get in the away and felt he was akin to a King instead of President. Felt he should be given everything he wanted and refused to compromise.

Obama blames Bush, the Arab Spring, European economy, the gulf oil spill, Tsunami in Japan and everything else he can come up with. He never accepts blame for anything, he has shown a lack of leadership in domestic and foreign programs. Obama is the most divisive and incompetent President ever.

futur is spelled with an 'e' at the end, and if you use a plural 'policies' then you should use 'have' and not 'has' or, I could be mistaken and a dumb idiot.

That's a pathetic lie. Democrats inherited 4.6% unemployment and a booming economy when they took over congress. This disaster is on their watch. They were asked repeatedly to rein in the banks, Fanny, Freddy, etc. and refused. Frank even came out and said "home ownership is a right!".

I think the economy is moving forward. I would rather have a solid stone base for economy instead of a house of cards Republicans make. Republican shams only benefit the rich. Not different than a street hustler with cards and a table. It you stop to watch, you lose your money.

Yes, the private sector is fine. I am absolutely clear that the private sector is not doing fine.

And for the last six years of democrat control the rich have gotten richer, the poor have gotten poorer, and the middle class has been decimated.

Compare the dozen years republicans ran congress vs the last six. No contest, democrats are completely incompetent.

You keep talking about the US as if you are not American? French, perhaps? That would explain a lot of things.

It took only two years for Reagan to pull us out of the Carter disaster, Obama has only made things worse.

The last two years of Bush the dems controlled both House & Senate, the first 2 years of the current occupant dems controlled both House & Senate. Just because he's inept and got a job that he was and still isn't capable of doing doesn't leave him without blame. The "blame game" is as old, tiring, and boring as the race card. He and the dems need to try honesty -- JUST ONCE.
