NBC/WSJ poll: Six in 10 say Obama inherited current economy

Another set of numbers from our new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll: 60 percent say President Obama inherited the current economic conditions, compared with 26 percent who blame his policies for the state of the economy.

That's a slight change from Aug. 2011, when 56 percent said the president inherited the economy, versus 33 percent who singled out his policies.

Yet when asked in a separate question whether the president’s policies have helped or hurt the economy, 33 percent say they’ve hurt; 32 percent say they’ve helped; and another 32 percent answer that they haven’t made much of a difference.

The full NBC/WSJ poll -- which was conducted of 1,000 adults and which has a margin of error of plus-minus 3.1 percentage points -- is released at 6:30 pm ET.

You can fool all the people some of the time, you can fool some of the people all the time but you can't fool all the people all the time and it looks like 60% of the people polled are retarded

Didn't Obama promise he will fix it with his magic if he gets elected in 2008?. So, why people need to elect him while he has been there for 4 years and just playing a blame game.

If it gets better, he is going to say he fixed it. otherwise, he keeps blaming previous administration. I have never seen an American politician who is so shameless, incompetent, cunning and inept like Obama. He desn't even seems to be qualified for any kind of public office.

Really? So Obama is shameless, incompetent, cunning and inept? Really? How do you describe George Bush, Sarah Palin, Dick Cheney, Newt Gingrich, Santorum, Macko Rubio, Jeb Bush, Mitt Romney, cantor, Mcconnell, etc?

Seriously Art, what are you smoking?

Uhhhh, lets see.......when did the market crash and the economic depression begin?? I believe that was before Obama became president, in the fall of 2008 - on George Bush's watch. Obama is not the cause of our failing economy, he inherited it. Yes, he said he would fix it, but he doesn't have a magic wand and fixing the economy won't happen overnight. Just because the economy isn't fixed doesn't mean he didn't try to help fix it. Don't get me wrong, I am very unhappy with our president right now and he has VERY likely lost my vote over some of his most recent decisions, but you can't blame the current state of the economy solely on Obama. Okay, you can, but it won't be right.

So what exactly has Romney got to offer? What are his plans? The slate is blank so far. The fuel of the right is simple, the hatred of Obama. Karl Rove brought us Bush. Now he wants a reprise, and bring Romney.

Enough of the noise about being a successful CEO at Bain. He ran a for-profit organisation and outsourced thousands of jobs to balance the books and left thousands un-employed. He has a govt record- MASSACHUSSETS !! He failed as a governor. Enough of the noise. And talking of past CEOs, George Bush was one and we all know the story now.

While I'm not in the Obama Fan Club; I have to agree that he did inherit a poor economy. That being said, you can't say he inherited the current economy. Obama has done nothing to improve our economy and all the crap that has contributed to it's continued poor state!!! We need a president who isn't a puppet for the rich and the influential scumbags of the world!!!!!!!

Reagan inherited a FAR WORSE economy from Carter than Obama inherited from Bush 43. Four years later Reagan had our country poised for the greatest economic turn around since the Great Depression. 3.5 years after Obama's election he has failed to turn around the economy and seems to STILL have No Clue of what to do except BLAME Bush.

        ssmithlg,

First, Obama inherited the worst economy since the great depression--so no where near what Reagan inherited.

Second, Do you know how Reagan turned around the economy? HE RAISED TAXES!! Yes that is right in 8 years he raised taxes 11 times and increased the national debt 189%, He also hired public sector workers, not fired them, expanding the federal government.

If the republicans in congress would passPresident Obama's agenda then perhaps by now the economy would be in better shape. Their only goal was/is to make President Obama fail (kind of treasonous if you ask me)

He saddled the American people with a debt that can never be paid off.If he took every damn penny the American people have it would not be enough to put a dent in the debt.He has done what all politicians do and that is give lip service and talk ,talk without anything to back it up.He has had 4 years of B.S.Time for someone else to give it a try.

Silvereagle, it was not President Obama that bailed out the banks it was President Bush that signed TARP before Obama was inaugurated.

President Obama did bail out the auto industry (btw the same way many many presidents have in the past) and by doing so saved millions of American jobs-not only in the car business but also the car part makers.

This poll is BAD news for Republicans. REALLY, REALLY bad news. But Dubya made their bed, and in November, lots of Republicans (including Mittens) will have to sleep in it. At home. Because the Republicans are going to lose a lot of elections this November, and thus they will be sent home to sleep in their beds. Beds figuratively made by Dubya, but literally made by the losing Republicans. Anyway, you get the idea.

We are much much better off then we were in 2009. Obama has created more jobs in 3 yrs than Bush did in 8. Obama had a tough job cleaning up the mess that republicans made of this country and I'm afraid if given the chance again, they would ruin the USA. We cannot afford more of the Far Righ't nonsense and idiotic economic policies that just do not work. Stay the course and do things right. That is why I am voting for Obama this time around. No one wants more of any Republican Failed Economic policies. They have a score of zero on all their plans and repeating these failures would be totally stupid. Imagine how this country might be now if Republicans had actually tried to help Obama instead of putting the Party above the country and blocking anything and everything. They should be ashamed. They are unpatriotic douche bags.

People who try to average out Bush's years don't want you know that the idiot took a 235 billion dollar surplus and turned it into a 1.6 trillion dollar deficit. That by the time Bush left office the economy was losing 700,000 jobs a month. If he had been in office just two more months the economy would have had a negative job growth for the Bush years. Wake up and smell the coffee.

Obama’s “job deficit” — the difference between current employment and the jobs Obama promised to create by the end of 2010 – stands at a staggering 7.6 million workers. The 2010 deficit is $1.471 trillion, or 10 percent of GDP, while the debt is $9.2 trillion, or 62.7 percent of GDP. (From January 20, 2001, to January 20, 2009, the debt held by the public grew $3 trillion under Bush, from $3.3 trillion to $6.3 trillion; in 20 months, Mr. Obama will add as much debt as Mr. Bush ran up in eight years.) And let’s not forget that the Obama administration passed an $862 billion stimulus package and assured us that unemployment would not exceed 8 percent; instead, unemployment topped 10 percent – a figure higher than what the Obama administration said would occur if the stimulus package wasn’t passed.

The President did not inherit anything. He campaigned for and won the Presidency after George Bush. The President said that he fix what was wrong in the economy no matter whose fault it was. He said that he did not deserve to be reelected if he could not fix the economy in three years. The President offered the stimulus bill and additional enhancements to federal spending as his solution to turning the economy around. According a report from Obama's own administration, unemployment has been greater than if the stimulus bill were never passed. So the stimulus failed to solve our unemployment problem. The Obama administration has done nothing to improve our trade deficit problem. The numbers just keep getting worse. The President promised that the 2012 federal deficit would not exceed 229.27 billion dollars yet his own White House is predicting a deficit of more than 5 times what the President had promised and is predicting more huge deficits each year for at least another decade. The President said that failure to control the federal deficit, as he has done, showed a lack of leadership. Let us all respect the words of the President. By his own words, he does not deserve a second term because he has failed to fix the economy. All Hail the Chief!

The GOP has refused to be sensible or forthcoming and have been the party of no....come November 6th, it's just time to get The Vote Out and FINALLY tell them all to shut the hell up!

Oby inherited the economy and did nothing to help it. He started with nothing and has all of it left after four years. Didn't even have a budget for three and a half years.

He gave the banks millions, that didn't help, he gave Afganistan millions, that didn't help. He gave the Cartels firearms, that didn't help.

He gave illegal immigrants millions, that didn't help.

The question is not weather he inherited the economy, the question is what did he do to try to improve it,................NOTHING.

Jim, it is congress that is responsible for a budget. Specifically the house---so maybe you should complain about them not sending anything to the senate that could pass. They knew it wouldn't--it was a show vote--they even said it.

He didn't give the banks millions, that was Bush before Obama was inaugurated.

He ran increasing the war in Afghanistan.

Fast and Furious started under the Bush administration.

How did he give illegal immigrants millions?

How can you inherit something like the current economy?

The last 3.5 years are what now, poof, gone?

What do the other 4 in 10 believe? Don't they remember McCain suspending his campaign to fly back to Washington to deal with the disaster?

What a stupid story. Of course Obama inherited the economy. That's like saying the sun rises each day Obama is president. The more pertinent question is, what's Odumbo done to improve the economy?

                      1. Cash for Clunkers, success, sort of, but why?

                      2. Failed HASP and HAMP program

                      3. Failed Energy Assistance Program

                      4. Failed Stimulus Program

                      5. $5 billion increase in debt

                      6. Failed to reduce the debt in half

                      7. Paid Union Kingpins to help GM with a HUGE loss for Taxpayers

                      8. Claimed he'd walk in a union pick line, but somehow couldn't find Wisconsin

                      9. Converted with Anna Wintour, perhaps wearing her Pradas too.

                      10. Sparked the Tea Party movement that will sweep him out of office.

Oh yes, he also manged to play 98 rounds of golf, so far! And yes, I know, I know, he killed Bin Liden, with his own hands, using a Glock 22, after sprinting up the stairs and kicking down the door. Well, not really, but the Movie is due out this Fall.

NOBAMA 2012... the Marxist/Socialist Experiment has FAILED!

And what efforts have the Tea Party reps made to improve the economy since taking office.

                      1. Obstructing.

                      2. Managing to lower the US Credit rating for the first time ever.

                      Was there more?
