This was to corner the market on lightbulbs (no one else had them at the time) and make GE very rich. After getting the legislation, GE suddenly discovered that the CFL required two times the labor, so GE opened all new CFL production plants in China. Then GE closed almost all incandescent plants in the US.

Jobs are slowly returning from China due to poor quality and higher costs of shipping. Call centers in India are closing and jobs returned to the US because the Indians don't want to deal with rude Americans.

When one borrows money without concern for paying it back that is a problem. How are we to pay for Iraq and Afghanistan wars without revenue? In the past taxes went up and we sold bonds to pay for the wars. This time we cut all sources of revenue. Revenue cuts coupled with increased war spending is largely how we got into the mess we are in today. Spending cuts alone nor revenue increases alone will not solve the problem. We need a sensible, balanced approch that includes both revenue increases and spending cuts. President Obama has already done some cutting and Congress can do more. Since President Obama cannot raise taxes it is up to Congress to increase revenue, whether by tax increases or tariffs or some other way. This current Congress is less likely to take any action than any previous Congress in decades. They are up for reelection and there seems to be a lot of talk, slam on the brakes etc from this Congress and very little real legislation that will help create jobs and increase revenue. When one is not working one has no income to pay taxes on. So with jobs increasing taxes will increase. if we can generate enough revenue from a reasonable tax rate of ordinary working people, perhaps the cry for higher taxes on the rich will subside. It's gotta come from somewhere.

To compete they are being forced, just like the automakers to Import what they have to to keep the price difference down, or Kubota and New Holland will overtake them. Price them, there is a $1500 to $2500 minimum price difference on the small ones I priced just 5 years ago.

As a shareholder, he still hold lots of power and pressure on the company and still get interests and profits from BAIN.

The goal is to produce a product or service that customers will pay for at a price that allows the business to turn a profit.
