The Obama campaign is going after Mitt Romney as an “Outsourcer in Chief” and running spots in Virginia, Iowa, and Ohio.
And the president was hitting that message yesterday in New Hampshire and Boston: “President Barack Obama, campaigning in Mitt Romney's backyard, criticized his Republican rival anew Monday for what his re-election campaign says is a record of shipping American jobs overseas,” the Boston Globe writes.
“Obama is hauling in millions of dollars for his re-election bid as he warns that Democrats will face a fundraising onslaught from Republicans during the fall campaign,” the AP writes. “Obama was to collect more than $2.3 million at fundraisers in Atlanta and Miami on Tuesday following top-dollar events Monday night in Boston.”
In a moment, last night, Obama re-learned an important political lesson: know your crowd and, well, don’t joke about the Red Sox, NBC’s Shawna Thomas reports. Obama, an avid Chicago White Sox fan, ribbed the Boston faithful about the Red Sox trading third baseman Kevin Youkilis to those other Sox. That elicited boos from many in the crowd.
“I’m just saying,” Obama began, “he’s going to have to change the color of his sock. I didn’t think I’d get any boos out of here. But I guess I should not have brought up baseball.” But That didn’t stop the jeering crowd either. Finally the president said, “My mistake. You’ve got to know your crowd.”
Rarely, does one hear the President of the United States get booed at a fundraiser, but many of the 1,800 people in the room who paid at least $144 to be there, didn’t take kindly to the president joking about Youkilis, the beloved Red Sox “sluggah.” But it took one woman yelling out, “We still love you” to break the humorous tension in the room. The crowd laughed and the president moved on to his stump speech and standing ovations.
“Turkey's prime minister, responding to the downing of a Turkish jet by Syrian forces, said Tuesday that Turkish military will respond to any future violation of its border by Syrian military elements,” AP writes, adding, “The head of the NATO military alliance called the downing of the jet unacceptable on Tuesday, shortly after Turkey briefed NATO's North Atlantic Council in discussions held under Article 4 of NATO's founding treaty, which allows a NATO member to request consultations if its security has been threatened.”
The New York Times this morning: “Warning Syria not to test its resolve, Turkey sought support on Tuesday from its partners in the NATO alliance at an emergency meeting of envoys in Brussels called after Syria shot down a Turkish warplane over the Mediterranean Sea.” Prime Minister Erdogan said this morning: "Every military element that approaches the Turkish border from Syria in a manner that constitutes a security risk or danger would be considered as a threat and would be treated as a military target.”
But some context on the prospect of intervention: “Western defense analysts said the incident had shown that, unlike the example of Libya last year, when NATO planes enforced a no-fly zone as rebels pressed for the ouster of Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi, the Syrian military could likely offer much stiffer resistance.”
“U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has vowed to hold Syria to account, while Britain’s foreign minister said Damascus won’t be allowed to act with impunity,” AP notes, adding, however, some context: “But for all the hard talk, the prospect of Western military intervention in Syria remains remote, at best.”

Just goes to show what a dimwit we have in the white house. Most people understand that running a business means you need to make money. Obama never did run anything so he is clueless.
If Government regs didn't make it more effective to outsource then companies wouldn't. But Obama doesn't understand that either.
Romney = the Father of Off-shoring jobs
RedSoxRule
Absolutely, so why is Romney so ashamed of his off-shoring record? Why won't he talk about companies like Ampad that made him and Bain lots of cash? It all made him money so why not brag about it?
GE didn't pay a single dime in taxes on billions worth of Corporate profits. Obama appoints Jeff Immelt, CEO of GE, in charge of the "Jobs Council" to make recommendations on how to create jobs. The result was GE created more jobs overseas than here in America supported by the taxes they didn't pay. But some how Romney is "bad"? Priceless.
DUDE-875416
GE is not THE problem. GE does what 2/3rds of companies do in this country: don't pay taxes. GE does not get special treatment from Obama. GE is taking advantage of all the beautiful deductions, deferrments, tax credits, off-shore addresses, subsidies, etc.
You are bitching about GE not paying taxes but you are for Republicans who want to do everything in their power to create even more tax breaks????
Well, Vice President Cheney was head of a private energy company Halliburton, how did that help his job performance in the executive branch?
bayllie
Please provide your sources that support your claim that 2/3rds of companies do what GE does which is to say, not pay ANY taxes.
This is true. The very deductions written by Democrats as well.
Since you are asking the question, my answer is no. However, I will add to the fact that the Democrats could have stopped much of this by removing the tax breaks for the wealthy when they had control of Congress during the first two years of Obama's only term. But they didn't. They chose to waste a year on writing HCR with a mandate which will soon be deemed unconstitutional by the supreme court.
Here's another one for you.
"Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) introduced an amendment to restore $4.5 billion in funding for the food stamp program, which assists some of the poorest Americans, by cutting "guaranteed profit for crop insurance companies from 14 to 12 percent and by lowering payments for crop insurers from $1.3 billion to $825 million."
Of course, it was soundly defeated.
It was defeated by the Democrats, not the Republicans. After all, Collin Peterson is the U.S. Representative for Minnesota's 7th congressional district, served since 1991, and is the ranking member of the House Agriculture Committee. Peterson is a member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party.
"I believe in the sugar program; it works," said Minnesota Rep. Collin Peterson, who received $10,000 last year from American Crystal Sugar and whose district includes the Red River Valley. He is expected to lead the effort to protect the sugar program in the 2012 farm bill. "I'm going to support the sugar program whether they give me money or not." I guess at the cost of food stamps as well. Priceless.

it's common knowledge but since you cannot do your own research, here it is:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/10/corporations-pay-no-tax_n_1196875.html
now this is about income tax so please don't confuse it with the taxes paid that were collected from sales tax or emplyee income taxes.
yes, and now the Democrats want to correct it by are being blocked by the Republicans so who's to blame????
Ok, I'm going to say this once. The Democrats never had a Super majority to overcome the Republican filibuster.
I will give you one example of what happened when A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to create American jobs and to prevent the offshoring of such jobs overseas was introduced.
The Republicans filibustered it - they would not even allow it to be voted on
you might be surprised that the Republicans were for it before they were against it.
the Health Equity and Access Reform Today Act of 1993 (S. 1770 and it included the individual mandate that you and the Republican hypocrites are now against.
The bill was introduced by John Chafee [R-RI] and had 20 cosponsors:
Robert Bennett [R-UT]
Christopher Bond [R-MO]
David Boren [D-OK]
William Cohen [R-ME]
John Danforth [R-MO]
Robert Dole [R-KS]
Pete Domenici [R-NM]
David Durenberger [R-MN]
Duncan Faircloth [R-NC]
Slade Gorton [R-WA]
Charles Grassley [R-IA]
Orrin Hatch [R-UT]
Mark Hatfield [R-OR]
Nancy Kassebaum [R-KS]
Robert Kerrey [D-NE]
Richard Lugar [R-IN]
Alan Simpson [R-WY]
Arlen Specter [R-PA]
Ted Stevens [R-AK]
John Warner [R-VA]
George Brown [R-CO]
DUDE,
to comment on your food stamp section of your post. The biggest issue is why do we have to keep increasing benefits for the poor in the first place? To increase profits, corporations keep laying off, cutting wages, and cutting benefits. All this while sitting on record profits.
So ask yourself - why are we increasing benefits for the poor? Basically we are indirectly subsidizing corporate profit. The less they pay, the more they get to keep.
In my previous post I gave you an example of a bill filibustered by the Republicans. Once we stop rewarding companies for offshoring our jobs and start rewarding companies for bringing our jobs home, WE WILL NOT HAVE THAT KIND OF NEED FOR FOOD STAMPS!
More jobs here = more taxpaying citizens = more demand for products = more jobs
I find it interesting that anyone supporting Republicans would be for increasing food stamps in the first place. Isn't that a big no-no in the Republican world???
Bailey,
Thanks for your link. Your claim that GE isn't the problem is accurate, our government is. Both parties are to blame. Your thought that ONLY Republicans are against removing tax loop holes is quite amusing. If this is true, then the Republicans are protecting the rich Democrats as well. After all, 60% of the filthiest rich in America are in fact Democrats.
GE has created more jobs overseas than here at home. Obama seemed to think Immelt was the best choice to lead the "Jobs Council". Where are the jobs? We are still over 8% unemployment which is expected to rise by the end of the year. I'd say Immelt and the "Jobs Council" were a waste of time and tax payers money.
Obama also wanted Jon Corzine to be in charge of the Treasury. We all know what happened regarding MF Global and billions worth of Americans investments going missing. The American people are lucky Corzine was discovered prior to Obama's finalization to have him run the Treasury.
The list could continue but what's the point. Obama has proven without a reasonable doubt that he is inept as President and is clearly not the solution for America's problems. In fact, in many ways helped make things worse.
I did notice you chose not to comment regarding the 2012 farm bill which I brought up. Could it be you agree with my comments?
Bayllie, the main reason why food stamps and funding for them went through the roof during Obama's reign was due to the Democrats overriding Bush's VETO of the farm bill back in 2008. The bill created a scenario where States were able to capitalize on more Federal money by promoting and providing more food stamps. The promotion of food stamps by the States is what led to the gross misuse of them today.
DUDE-875416
only one party is a slave to the Norquist's pledge
The rise started long before Obama took office, and accelerated as the nation was plunging into the worst economic recession since the Great Depression.
The only we will get our jobs back is when we accept the fact we will have to work at the same pay & benefits as the people who we outsourced them to. Try and live in America on those wages.
Smitty-4183671
companies want to pay you and me $hit to make their product but then the same companies want to charge you and me top price for the product you just made.
eventually, people will not be able to afford homes, new cars, new TVs, new computers, etc. When the demand is down, companies send more jobs to China or India. That leaves fewer making money and fewer being able to afford new things. And the vicious cycle continues.....
If Obama ran a company he would have to outsource his own job since he has no clue what business is all about having never run a hot dog stand.
As a resident of Massachusetts, I wish Romney offshored his state job like he did to other state workers by vetoing a bill that would prevent offshoring of some Mass state jobs.
I don't want a President who excells at selling hotdogs.
Average middle-class repubican: too stupid to get it.
Average progressive moonbat: too lazy to earn it, so get it free from the Government ...
sorry bobby, I have never recieved anything for free from the government - except the Bush rebate check but I paid more than that in taxes so it's still not free.
You have to love the libby idiots on this. They want to criticize outsourcing jobs, but applaud allowing more than 1 million illegal immigrants taking American jobs. Typical hypocrites.
RedSoxRule
First, it's offshoring not outsourcing.
Second, be a good sport and go pick oranges in FL in a 100 degree weather for $5/hr with no benefits and then get back to me about them illegals stealing American jobs.
Red: When Alabama and Georgia cracked down on immigration and many immigrants left left, and then the farmers and smaller companies yelled to the roof about not having anyone to work in their fields and do the grunt work.....because US citizens do NOT want to do that work. The farmers said many of the citizens they hired quit after a day or so because the work was too hard.
And Red, many, many Repubs have agreed with President Obama's decision and applaud it.
Big business invited them here. You GOP'ers support big business. At first most GOP'ers saw no harm in the immigrants cause the were taking local union jobs at the state, cities and municapalities. Lawn care and garabage collectors were replaced by these works for less money. It was funny then it isn't funny now. That was called insourcing. GOP'ers voters, getting screwed up the yazhoo. Then blaming on the Dem's, liberals and socialism. When that lock step, goose steppin Gop'ers tearing you up.
The GatewayBull
it's a great way to influence supply and demand. Id the supply of jobs is smaller than the demand, people will work more hours for less pay, and fewer benefits.
President Obama is cracking down on corporations that profit from hiring illegals more than the previous administration ever did. I guess Romney could learn something from President Obama. Self-deportation will only work if there is no work to be found. But Romney can't be for it becuase that would mean taking away corporate profits from his donors by fining them for breaking the law.
I guess Romney's screwed.
From all first-hand accounts of those at Symphony Hall last night, calls of "Yooouk!" were the crowd's response to the presidents quip about Kevin Youklis. It's obvious that the reporter who filed that story had never spent a single inning at Fenway Park in the last 10 years.
As far as the President getting booed I was there. The crowd was chanting Youk Youk Youk ( in homage) which given the acoustics could sound like boos. The same thing used to happen at Springteen concerts when fans would chant ..Bruce Bruce Bruce with similar effect.
Since "Faux cah hontas" Liz Warren was in the crowd, the crowd was actually yelling Native American war whoops...
bobby, isn't Scott Brown running against Rachel Maddow anyway? At least that's what Scott "the Scheizo" Brown claims.
“Obama was to collect more than $2.3 million at fundraisers in Atlanta and Miami on Tuesday following top-dollar events Monday night in Boston.”
Why bother mentioning this? We already know Obama spends most of his time fundraising, hobnobbing with Hollywood celebrities, and playing golf.
Just headline it when the President actually tries to do the job we pay him for...
Classic,
A new ad from President Obama’s re-election campaign calls Mitt Romney “Outsourcer-in-Chief,” accusing the former businessman and presumptive Republican presidential nominee of overseeing companies that shipped jobs to China and India while leading Bain Capital.
But while Obama tries to hit Romney on this issue, records show that Obama’s campaign is using a travel booking company this year that have operations in India and China.
Federal Election Commission reports show that Obama for America made numerous payments to the corporate travel company Egencia as recently as May. They were made to Egencia’s Bellevue, Washington office.
