SCOTTSDALE, AZ -- Mitt Romney pledged to reform the nation's immigration laws in his first year as president while criticizing the Supreme Court's immigration decision on Monday in broad terms.
Romney told donors in Arizona that he would have preferred that their state have more discretion in enforcing its immigration laws following a ruling by the high court throwing out much of Arizona's tough immigration law.
"Now you probably heard today there was a Supreme Court decision relating to immigration and given the failure of the immigration policy in this country, I would have preferred to see the Supreme Court give more latitude to the states not less," Romney told some 200 donors seated in a hotel ballroom for his remarks. "And there are states now under this decision have less authority, less latitude to enforce immigration laws."
Throughout the primary campaign, Romney defended the immigration law here, which called for local law enforcement to check immigration documents for anyone who they suspected may be in the country illegally (among other provisions), as the right course for a state to take when the federal government has failed to address immigration.
The court invalidated much of the law except for one of its most controversial prongs: the requirement that authorities check the immigration status of individuals whom they detain and suspect of being in the U.S. illegally.
Romney didn't address that provision directly, pivoting instead to accuse President Obama of a failure to lead on immigration and creating a "muddle" of the issue.
"The president promised in his campaign that in his first year he would take on immigration and solve our immigration challenges, put in place a long term program to care for those who want to come here legally to deal with illegal immigration, to deal with securing our borders," Romney said. "All these things he was going to in his first year he had a Democrat House and a Democrat Senate but he didn’t do it. Isn’t it time for the American people to ask him why?"
Romney has not remarked publicly on the Supreme Court case or immigration today, but in addressing the topic of reform with a group of donors here who collectively gave more than $2 million dollars to the campaign, Romney pledge to forgo stopgap measures and reform the U.S. immigration system within the first year of his administration.
"In my first year I will make sure we actually do take on immigration, we secure our border, we make sure that we grow legal immigration in a way that provides people here with skill and expertise that we want," Romney said. "This is an issue that has to be tackled."

WOW!
How extremely erudite on Willard's part! lol
So, what we get out of Willard is just more empty promises with ZERO solutions...
GREEEAAAAT!
This is comprable to;
I want a ballet dancing horse, will you give me one if I vote for you?
Was Willard thinking about Larry Craig when he came up with this?
Romney told donors in Arizona that he would have preferred that their state have more discretion in enforcing its immigration laws following a ruling by the high court throwing out much of Arizona's tough immigration law.
So this is Mitten's idea of immigration reform? Just turn it over to the States?
Well that was easy.
wide latitude
Was Willard thinking about Larry Craig when he came up with this?

Obama/Biden 2012
No actually missy...he was camped out at your stable. Poor old nag I feel a song coming on "I cant dance, I cant prance, and you can see my diaper from this wide stance.
Hey Harry!
Why don't you tell us some of your infamous Viet Nam stories again?
I can't get enough of bitch-slapping a certified serial liar! ;o)
Who me? lol
Hey Romney, wish in one hand and poop in the other and see what you end up with. What a fake and phony idiot. Immigration is not a state issue. It is a national issue. Always has been and always should be. This new GOP has wasted OUR time and OUR treasure for far to long. Issue after issue for over 3 yrs now, these unethical and unhonorables are staining our flag with their obviously unamerican agenda. Congress has got to be cleaned up along with the supreme court. This shame has got to stop. Soon. We can not afford it. Especially the children.
Yes, and Mitt's also going to bring about World Peace. (snark).
I'm sorry Feisty, what was Obama's solution to Immigration? He never formally endorsed DREAM. He never worked with Congress on DREAM. He simply sat back and let Congress handle it.
Legislation is still made in Congress right? So why would Romney even provide a solution. I know liberals think that Obama has legislative authority, but he really doesn't.
Home Land Security has already cut back on deportation over a year ago. Why President Obama decided to announce it now, is anyone's guess.
Under growing pressure from open borders groups that accuse the Obama Administration of removing too many illegal aliens, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in early 2011 began to implement formal measures to relax the enforcement of U.S. immigration laws. DHS has set forth its new policies regarding removal in a series of memos issued by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director John Morton. Together, these memos constitute nothing less than the granting of administrative amnesty to hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens currently in the United States.
On March 2, 2011, ICE Director John Morton issued a policy memo to ensure that his agency would only enforce the law against a specific subset of illegal aliens by setting forth new priorities for the apprehension, detention, and removal of illegal aliens. This subset, according to Director Morton, includes:

The Dream Act....DUH!
Feisty Beisty, you are truly a sad case. Not only first but second and then fourth on the Posting. I can hear you saying, "not now Honey, I have to Post".
I actually feel sorry for you, however Romney will have to get more detail on his stands. President Obama had to do what he did in order to get ahead of Rubio's Dream act, just as the President had to evolve about Gay Marriage.
Feisty, I might be wrong but it looks like another bad week for the Libs.
Uhhh, yeah, duh, the DREAM Act, a license for anyone and everyone to enter this country ILLEGALLY and get a free pass, free benefits, free green card, free citizenship, blah, blah, blah...
We have already seen in the last week how well his immigration stopgap is setting with the LEGAL folks who entered this country LEGALLY and paid cold, hard WORK to bet what he is giving away free. Wow, what a guy!
I can still hear the maggots gagging in the woods while singing another verse of "This is how we pander, won't you all join in."

And how will you do that, Mr. Romney?
-long pause- "Uh, we'll get back to you on that later, okay?"
There is a place for state's rights, and this ain't one of 'em. However, if Romney intended to move to the center from his statements about the Arizona law being a good model for the nation, this was an epic fail.
But then he says...
So THAT's his solution? That seems to be his answer for EVERYTHING! Got a problem? Give it to the states to do what they feel like doing. Got a war? Let the states fight it.
"Give the states the latitude" is no solution... it's the biggest f#$king cop-out I've ever heard. It's called leading by not.
GT-2021701 By my recollection Arizona has their own Constitution. The Federal Government should not trample on states. Would you want the Fed to dictate what your poperty taxes should be, who your police and emergency personnel should and should not aid, tell you which doctor to use and not use, tell you at what age you should no longer require medical care because your to old. Here is a brief history on Arizona's constitution:
The Arizona Territory was authorized to hold a constitutional convention in 1910 to at which the constitution was drafted and submitted to Congress. The original constitution was approved by Congress, however subsequently vetoed by President William H. Taft on his objections concerning the recalling of judges. The constitution was amended by the constitutional convention removing the recalling of judges and resubmitted upon which President Taft approved Arizona's statehood as the 48th state on February 14, 1912.
So, what I am saying is the federal government should not interfere with individual state laws or rights. There would be no need for a Governor or state legislatures and your vote for something favorable to you would go uncounted!
P.S. The problem SHOULD belong to the state!
P.S.S. Do you live in Arizona where ranchers near the border sleep in fear every night because of desperate illegals entering their land?
If I remember correctly, it was the GOP refusing to do ANYTHING on immigration until our borders were secure. Does anyone really think our boarders will be more secure in 10 years? 20 years? The GOP are the obstructionists and blame everyone but themselves.
We need to vote every GOP incumbent out of office this November! Every single Grover stooge.
AppeasersFate,
there are a lot of new meds out now that will slow and quiet the illegals in your head...
Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL
Romney didn't address that provision directly, pivoting instead to accuse President Obama of a failure to lead on immigration and creating a "muddle" of the issue.
Typical Romney response. Making promises with no substance. I guess that means the issue can go either way. Someone please step up and show these morons how to enforce the laws we have. Nothing is broken just enforce the laws we have!
Njofaustintx
You're not a citizen of Arizona, you're a resident. You're a citizen of the US. States cannot enforce or in any other way, dictate the citizenship rules of the federal law.
But who will mow your lawn then Mitt?
Obama and the democrats are just empty promises. And Latinos and the rest of the country are getting it.
Romney is an amazing candidate. His stand on every issue is sooo very clear. I don't care what the issues are; taxes, immigration, voter suppression, regulation, deficits, education, energy, healthcare, social security, welfare, womens rights, etc, He promises to address them all. Course, when it comes to the Pentagon, the right of Israel to exist, and the death penalty He's even more adamant. Says He's all for these. His policies ?????????????? are as clear as a block of highly polished opaque glass as seen through by a blind man.
It's funny how they (wingnuts) always want states to have "latitude" for the issues they support but not for the issues they are against such as abortion, pot, gay marriage, gun control, etc.
The US Constitution has a supremacy clause, it takes precedence over any other laws or state constitutions. In any conflicts between state laws and the US Constitution, the US Constitution wins. That's why the Supreme Court rendered the decision it did, it was inevitable.
The US Constitution does divide powers, giving the Federal government authority over certain things, including immigration, foreign diplomacy and treaties, interstate commerce, foreign trade and tariffs, etc. The rest is left to the states, which is why the Federal government usually doesn't interfere in most state and local issues, the exception being where state or local laws infringe on powers reserved for the Federal government.
Mac Forrester -- The sad part is that many people are taken in by Romney's non-answers. They listen to his usual "I'll address that as President" and then morph his answers to fit their expectations and they don't catch on that Romney's opinions will change according to who's writing the checks. Anyone who votes for Romney in November, in reality, has no idea what they'll be getting in January.
Romneys latitude extends to illegals making pennies to work in his yard!
Romney: ‘I’m Running For Office for Pete’s Sake, I Can’t Have Illegals’
By Eric Scheiner

(CNSNews.com)- During last night’s Republican presidential debate in Las Vegas, Nev., former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney admitted that a lawn company he had used hired illegal immigrants and that when he found out he told the company it could not have illegal aliens working on his property because he was running for office.
In agreement #1.28: I agree with your analysis. This kind of crap wouldn't have flown with the majority of people 2 generations ago. They wanted to hear what they liked or disliked relative to issues of the day, and would not vote for those who denied them comprehensive understanding. Regards
1 -Mitt Romney pledged to reform the nation's immigration laws in his first year as President of The United States.
2 -Romney told donors in Arizona that he would have preferred that their state have more discretion in enforcing its immigration laws.
Conflicting statements with only one conclusion. Romney's first year of office will be to abandon the Constitution and federal immigration laws in favor of allowing each state to legislate their own immigration laws.
I understand that smart businessmen must delegate authority to those under them. I don't think that works with government. The federal government has their responsibilities and individual states have their own. Passing the buck on difficult federal issues to individual states will result in chaos. That is the crux of this issue. Our horrible Civil War was born on a very similar issue.
No. States can not have their own military and their own currency to conflict with other states no more than a county or city can establish the same conflict within that state. States cannot have their own foreign policy or declare war on another state or nation. States cannot have their own individual immigration policy.
Many have serious reservations concerning our federal government's lack of clear policy and lack of enforcement of the laws already on the books. We must address those issues with our federal officials and keep a very wary eye on our state Governors that wish to take matters in their own hands. We have far too many problems with the state of the union to invite another civil war over state's rights.
We should have grave concern over any state that attempts to assume federal responsibilities. Arizona citizens would be wise to show the door to their Governor and all legislators responsible for initiating this travesty of a law. If not, Governor Perry of Texas(just next door) might explain the advantage of seceding from the United States.
Njo, I think most if not ALL states have a state Constitution. That does not mean that any state's or Commonwealth's constitution trumps the Federal one. If you think that just by basis of a state or commonwealth having a constitution means that their will and law trumps our Federal laws ... well, let me refer you back about 150 years to a little scuffle between the Federal government and states' rights called the Civil War - which the Federal government won.
Next.
Romney is too cowardly to directly state that he would support "States Rights."
Was it not States Rights that gave us Jim Crow? That gave us:
- to deny Blacks the right to vote, the unequal application of poll taxes
- segregation in education, famously the "Ole Miss" and Ross Barnet conflict
- segregation in transportation, which forced Blacks to sit at the back of the bus
- segregation in hotel acommodations, "No Vacancy signs for people of color"
- segregation at luncheons, Blacks were refused service at eatery counters
- separate and unequal water fountains and rest room facilities
With the immigration aside, is Romney speaking in racist "code?"
To those who want to further divide America, is Romney giving them a "double wink of the eye? By resurrecting states rights, is Romney saying, "If you vote for me, I will each state complete freedom to discriminate against certain residents at will?
To appease the right wing, Mitt is willing to further split America.
Romeny is unfit for the White House.
I swear you can't make this stuff up.
Jon Stewart managed to nail this one on the head:
Republicans like Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), omnipresent Sunday talk show guest Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), and former Governor Tim Pawlenty (R-MN) chided the president for not having moved on this issue sooner, claiming that Obama had majorities in both houses of Congress and should have been able to pass the DREAM Act without having to result to this kind of unilateral decision-making. Stewart rolled news footage of December 2010 when the DREAM Act stalled out in Congress due to a Republican filibuster, underlining the hypocrisy in the Republicans’ complaints about the president’s failure to pass legislation that they killed.
Another Republican talking point about Friday’s decision by the president has been that he is acting unilaterally in an area that requires some form of Congressional oversight and that, with his move on immigration, Obama acted more like a king than a president. This was just as easily dispensed with when Stewart pointed out that President George W. Bush (R) took similar action when he issued an executive order granting amnesty to 3,500 Liberians fleeing the unrest in that country in September of 2007.
Republicans = hypocrisy!
How can Mitt Romney tell us that this should be a state issue, and in the same breath deride the president for not doing anything. If you believe it is a state issue, then why would the president do anything? Pick a side, and you cannot pick both!
It seems as though it's not politically expedient on both sides of the fence (excuse the pun) to ever resolve this immigration policy issue...it would seem that there is more of a perceived payoff not to....and yet the problem remains unsolved and now due to Obama's dictum to Homeland Security, there are a whole lot of young illegals with no status for 2 years...and just before the Supreme Court came up with their final word on SB1070 and our impending election. As a person of hispanic heritage, I'm not buying it.
So, Romney says the same thing Obama did when he was campaigning in 08 and you libs make fun of him? In fact, Romney is running a campaign very similar to Obama's 08 campaign where he doesn't commit to much and you libs are all over Romney. Talk about flip flopping.
Irony at it's best.
Best part is, Obama has always been after amnesty, and not all democrat politicians support that. The majority of democrat voters don't even support it.
@25Walker,
Obama has done more to split this country apart than any other president. He's purposely divided this country along economic and racial lines. Wake up.
FRH: your use of the word "erudite" is questionabe in the context that you have written it in your comments...
More politics as usual, like Obama, from Romney. His statement is neutral. Those who want immigration reform to grant amnesty will interpret his statement to mean that. Those who want immigration reform to crack down on employers, which will solve the problem, will interpret his statement to mean that.
There is little wrong with our immigration laws and policies as they stand. It's enforcement, or lack thereof, that's the problem.
Alex... I call BS... That's just what the conservatives want to see and is one of their main Talking Points as handed out by your corporate masters.
Empty promises? We are currently saddled with the worst president in the history of our country. He has run roughshod over the constitution that he swore to uphold, spends trillions to put our country further in debt and burdening the future generations of Americans, promotes bigger and bigger government taking away more and more of our freedoms, invokes executive privilege to cover up a scandal that cost the life of an American Border Patrol Agent, has failed on every front to stabilize our floundering economy and high unemployment, pushes a healthcare plan that 57% of Americans want repealed, and that's just a few of his failings. His arrogance and reckless disregard for his oath of office and disdain for the laws of this country make him as close to a dictator as we have ever had.
Romney has not taken office (yet) so how can he be making empty promises? Promises are only empty when a president fails to live up to the promises he/she made to get elected in the first place.
Such as:
1. That he would end the recession and bring back a healthy, booming
economy.
2. That he would end the war in Iraq in such a way as to bring the troops home
without leaving Iraq in violent convulsions.
3. That he would “reset” relations with Russia.
4. That he would go over the federal budget “line by line” to weed out waste and
corruption and would thereby save so much money that it would go a long way to balance the budget.
5. That he would bring peace to the Middle East.
6. That he would create a new, peaceful, productive relationship with
Iran.
7. That he would create a better world with more opportunities for
students.
And here's the biggie - "My Presidency Will Be ‘A One-Term Proposition‘ if Economy Doesn’t Turn Around in ‘3 Years’" Okay. Maybe that's the one promise he won't renege on. We can only hope.
Willard's America is getting more interesting as time goes by. By his rationale, States should also defend their borders. It would appear to be time to disband the United States Army and transfer the equipment to the States and Territories in order for each National Guard to defend its state. We can divvy up the FBI and US Marshals Service and transfer the equipment to the State Polices. Forest Service...we don't need no stinking Forest Service, fight you own damn wildfires. In fact, let's just neuter the Federal Government. It would be interesting to see how long it takes individual states to invade each other.

Any questions?
Here, you can find a fairly comprehensive list of promises kept/not kept:
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/
Unfortunately, it's somewhat biased against Obama, since when he made these promises, he didn't realize that he would run into a Republican party that had no problem with working against America's interests, but still, it's a fairly good list.
@NinjaCM
You can call BS all you want, but it's the truth. I'm an independent, so I don't have a corporate master. I don't read Fox, I don't watch the news, I'm very picky about what sites I get my news from. Coming to msndc is more for entertainment than news since they swing pretty left here.
So my statement is my opinion that I formed through my own investigation, not from some puppet master. You libs already have that part covered extremely well.

Wait for it, wait for it...
Answer: Obama
CEO-
- As a candidate he campaigned against gay marriage and as President supported that position…now 6 months before an election he decides to change his mind.
- He campaigned against the Bush tax cuts; then extended all of them
- Vowed to take public financing for his 2008 campaign; then refused public financing when he realized he would raise more money without it.
- Campaigned on the closing of Guantanamo as soon as possible, yet 3.5 years into his term, it’s still open…and being refurbished!!
- Promised to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term; then proposed trillion dollar deficits….as far as the eye can see.
- Said lobbyists wouldn’t work in the White House; then gave them waivers to do just that.
- As a senator in 2006, he voted against increasing the debt limit; now as President he supports raising it.
- He promised to have health care negotiations on live TV, but then reversed himself and sent everything behind closed doors…where he felt more comfortable.
- During a Prague speech in April of 2009, Obama pledged to keep the Bush era policy of Third Site missile defenses in eastern Europe….6 months later, after Russian pressure, he reverses himself.
- Candidate Obama promised to reinvigorate the NASA space program with an additional influx of $2 billion …President Obama let the program die on the vine.
- Finally, he vowed to use civilian courts to try terrorists as opposed to military tribunals. Now...after considerable blow back...we're back to the tribunals.
The Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration on U.S. Taxpayers
Illegal immigration costs federal and local taxpayers $113 billion a year.
EVERY Year!
Examples of Serious Crimes of Illegal Aliens
News accounts of crimes that may have been prevented if the alien had been deported or stopped from entering the country illegally.
Nice job picking and choosing the words. Should have included the first part where he stated:
The problem isn't immigration reform...it is that the current administration is utterly failing to enforce the laws of the country. Not only failing, but outright neglecting it's duty to do just that. Obama keeps making his own rules and they are unconstitutional. Where does the president get to pick and choose which laws are enforced? Why is that up to him? Here is his oath of office
Obama is not only failing to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution, he is outright ignorning it.
He should be impeached...today.
Ol Doc - read it and weep:
#1 The percentage of Americans that own homes is dropping rapidly. According to Gallup, the current level of homeownership in the United States is the lowest that Gallup has ever measured.
#2 Home prices in the U.S. continue to fall like a rock as well. They have declined for six months in a row and are now down a total of 35 percent from the peak of the housing bubble. The last time that home prices in the United States were this low was back in 2002.
#3 Last year, an astounding 53 percent of all U.S. college graduates under the age of 25 were either unemployed or underemployed.
#4 Back in 2007, about 10 percent of all unemployed Americans had been out of work for 52 weeks or longer. Today, that number is above 30 percent.
#5 When Barack Obama first became president, the number of “long-term unemployed workers” in the United States was 2.6 million. Today, it is 5.3 million.
#6 The average duration of unemployment in the United States is about three times as long as it was back in the year 2000.
#7 Despite what the mainstream media would have us to believe, the truth is that the percentage of working age Americans that are employed is not increasing. Back in March 2010, 58.5 percent of all working age Americans were employed. In March 2011, 58.5 percent of all working age Americans were employed. In March 2012, 58.5 percent of all working age Americans were employed. So how can Barack Obama and the mainstream media claim that the employment situation in the United States is getting better? The employment rate is still essentially exactly where it was when the last recession supposedly ended.
#8 Back in 1950, more than 80 percent of all men in the United States had jobs. Today, less than 65 percent of all men in the United States have jobs.
#9 In 1962, 28 percent of all jobs in America were manufacturing jobs. In 2011, only 9 percent of all jobs in America were manufacturing jobs.
#10 In some areas of Detroit, Michigan you can buy a three bedroom home for just $500.
#11 According to one recent survey, approximately one-third of all Americans are not paying their bills on time at this point.
#12 Since Barack Obama entered the White House, the price of gasoline has risen by more than 100 percent.
#13 The student loan debt bubble continues to expand at a very frightening pace. Recently it was announced that total student loan debt in the United States has passed the one trillion dollar mark.
#14 Incredibly, one out of every four jobs in the United States pays $10 an hour or less at this point.
#15 Household incomes all over the United States continue to fall. After adjusting for inflation, median household income in America has declined by 7.8 percent since December 2007.
#16 Over the past several decades, government dependence has risen to unprecedented heights in the United States.
#17 In November 2008, 30.8 million Americans were on food stamps. Today, more than 46 million Americans are on food stamps.
#18 Right now, more than 25 percent of all American children are on food stamps.
#19 According to the U.S. Census Bureau, today 49 percent of all Americans live in a home that receives some form of benefits from the federal government.
#20 Over the next 75 years, Medicare is facing unfunded liabilities of more than 38 trillion dollars. That comes to $328,404for each and every household in the United States.
#21 During the first quarter of 2012, U.S. public debt rose by 359.1 billion dollars. U.S. GDP only rose by 142.4 billion dollars.
#22 At this point, the U.S. national debt is rising by more than 2 million dollars every single minute.
#23 The U.S. national debt has risen by more than 5 trillion dollars since the day that Barack Obama first took office. In a little more than 3 years Obama has added more to the national debt than the first 41 presidents combined.
#24 The Federal Reserve bought up approximately 61 percent of all government debt issued by the U.S. Treasury Department during 2011.
#25 The Federal Reserve continues to systematically destroy the value of the U.S. dollar. Since 1970, the U.S. dollar has lost more than 83 percent of its value.
This is as a result of the housing bubble burst that started in 2007 - two YEARS before Obama took office. It has not sufficiently recovered because of the simultaneous Wall Street need for a bailout which happened in June 2008. Considering that the election wasn't until November of 2008, Obama can not be blamed for this, either.
See my explanation above ^ as to why this is true and what was the precipitating cause and WHEN the damage occurred. Credit dried up for a VERY long time for all but the MOST qualified "borrowers" which means the AVERAGE American could not get a loan for a car, much less a house. The cause of this happened before Obama took office.
The economy - which is tied to both the credit markets and the housing market - TANKED in 2007 - 2008. You really expect that it would have recovered in less than 4 years under Obama? Really? I would be willing to bet that if McCain had won and Democrats and liberal-leaning Independents were saying this now that YOU would be defending McCain and not blaming him. At the time of the ELECTION in 2008 we were losing jobs at an amazing pace. Business are still a little wary and thus hiring is slowly increasing, but it IS increasing.
See above.
SEE ALL OF THE ABOVE.
SEE ALL OF THE ABOVE. The economy has NOT recovered from the blow that shook it back in 2007-2008. It IS improving, but apparently this has not registered on you and/or you think that an unemployment level that has RISEN to not far from where it was in January 2009 is important.
A recession is when conditions are worsening. Even holding a status quo means that the recession is "over". However, a recession being "over"does not mean that conditions in the credit market (which helps to drive employment since business RELY on credit for day to day operations) have improved sufficiently to magically allow every employer to hire back all the employees that were laid off. This is Economics 101 stuff. When you can't get credit to purchase raw materials or stock, you don't have the goods to sell to people. When people don't have jobs, they have no money to purchase the goods and services. If there is less stock to sell there is less potential for profit. If there are fewer buyers, there is less potential for profit. If there is less potential for profit there is less money to PAY an employee.
Again, SEE ABOVE for all of these issues.
You REALLY think that ANY President has ANY influence over the cost of a barrel of oil in the Middle East? If anything, the people who speculate in oil futures have more control over the price of oil. The President has NO CONTROL over the FINITE resource of crude oil. There is only so much of it on the planet and most of it resides outside of the US. The portion of it that DOES reside under our portion of the Earth's crust is constrained by how heavily populated our country is. Would you prefer that we bulldoze cities and towns, decimate the portion of land that we grow crops and livestock on and just drill wherever we can find oil? You're prepared to make people homeless and GUT our ability to feed people? Unless you want to turn our entire country into a WASTELAND looking for that elusive source of oil, then we are reliant on oil from the Middle East. While we are reliant on the oil from the Middle East we have no control over how much THEY allow to be released onto the marketplace. I mean that IS a FREE MARKET ECONOMY IN ACTION.
That's because the PRICE of a college education continues to expand much faster than the economy. The relative price of a Bachelors Degree to median salary continues to grow. This means it is less and less AFFORDABLE for people to go to college. This means that more and more people have to take out loans, and that the average loan has to increase because the COST is increasing. This IS the "Free Market Economy" in action.
At this point, employers are in the driver's seat. They can cut the salary that they offer people and people are so desperate for a JOB that they'll take a minimum wage job. Or are you suggesting that they should continue to take unemployment (if they still qualify) and food stamps and other "Welfare dollars" until they can FIND a better paying job?
See above.
So you ARE saying that those people who are being offered lower salaries and hourly pay should take the jobs, which lowers the average income? Oh, Ok.
I'm really tired of saying "see above" ... refer to previous explanations.
Refer to previous explanations.
Again,k refer to previous explanations.
Part of this is the "greying of America" where there are more and more people retiring due to age. There are also more and more people retiring EARLY and not receiving their "full" social security income as a result just so they have SOME money coming in. AS the economy picks up, the LAST people that Corporate America or even Small Business America wants to hire is someone who is close to Social Security retirement age.
You know what the key portion of that statistic is? GDP ROSE. This is an indication that the economy is IMPROVING, even if it is slow.
Better than giving us unconstitutional healthcare while the economy is tanking. Even a middle manager would have known better.
Yea! Especially since republicans introduced it long ago you polarized idiot. Nothing unconstitutional about it. Try actually reading it. The benefits to america far outway the negative. BY FAR! Fact is the supreme court will uphold most of the affordable health care act. Simple math. I, for one, am looking forward to shoving it even farter down your already Koch bros stained throats. lol
Oh, Rocky...Do you still think there is a single teabagger out there that knows how to read?
RedSoxRule
Read it. Even a middle cave man can understand it. Health care was eating our lunch. It was the biggest driver to poverty. It was/is the single biggest threat to retiree fixed income.
Even a moron would have known that health care had to be addressed.
I lived in Great Britain for 15 years while serving in the military. Their national health program, after Thatcher and the other cronies after her "managed" their government sponsored health care, many Brits had to wait years just to get a much needed surgery or medical care and many never lived to see the cure they needed.....UNLESS, one had the money (i.e., the richest) to seek care outside the national health program. Many of their doctors and nurses left the country because of the below poverty level pay they received from the government. If you know someone over there ask them what they think of their program! Their government even taxes the radio in your car each year and each television you have in your home. Common, if you want that, because that's where this health program will end up, move to Great Britain!
RedSoxRule
What did or didn't Obama Care do for you?
Individual mandate came from the GOP,, before POTUS agreed that is. Facts is facts.
Confussed-1578043 does nothing for me. I'm a disabled vet. No leg, left it in Iraq in 91! But I came home, found a job immediately and still need suplemental health insurnce to cover costs. I don't qualify for OBCare because I'm a disabled vet!

Njofaustintx, If you did, indeed live in the UK while serving in the military you must have been confined to base the entire time. Your assertions about the National Health Service are pure BS.
Yes, Margaret Thatcher, that darling of the right wing, eviscerated the system, but it is still better than anything in the US (with the exceptions of Medicare, Medicaid, and the VA).
Because of Thatcher's cuts, most middle class people carry supplemental health insurance, just as many seniors in the US carry supplemantal insurance to cover what Medicare does not.
If surgery is needed (as opposed to elective surgery), Britons get it in a timely manner. Nobody dies because they cannot get treatment. The same cannot be said for the US system.
Doctors in the UK are paid very well, although there is a lower percentage of super rich doctors than there are here. Nurses get paid a comfortable wage, too. Nurses in the US, form that matter, don't get paid very well.
I speak from personal experience when I say that in British hospitals (any Eropean hospital for that matter) the nurses provide much better patient care than nurses in US hospitals do.
I think I have it figured out. Conservatives and TPers don't want mandated healthcare as insurance companies won't accept squirrel pelts as payment. The answer occured to me while watching some of the History Channel's programming lately. ;)
Reading above makes it clear that the liberals are more than happy to sound like 6 year olds, as they seemingly have no understanding at all of the difference between 'turning over immigration to the states" and what Mitt actually said, which is that it would be nice for the states, (especially border states who have been all but abandoned by the Federal Government) would be given a little more latitude.
And while I think that the Supreme Court got this right both yea and nay, clearly Homeland Security does have latitude, as they just hung Arizona out to dry, which is a despicable act, clearly planned in advance by Obama and Big Sis.
So the Supreme Court upholds the Federal government's oversight, and our Homeland Security Queen commands their office in AZ to ignore calls from the states law enforcement people in need of the help the feds are required to provide with regards to apprehending and deporting ILLEGAL ALIENS.
Any thinking person has to be completely disgusted with the hyper-partisan all-political all the time White House. This move by Obama and 3-flavors Janet will be Obama's undoing, as he has shown his hand, and it is that he is willing to be the President only of liberals, telling everyone else that they can pound sand. Despicable.
usbrit-WA Why, then, was there such an exodis of nurses leaving the UK in the 80's. Many left because of horrible working conditions and shoddy doctors. I did not confine myself to the bases I was at. I had more British friends then American while there and to this day. My sons godparents are British and lived in Ipswich. Vertually all, save one who was wealthy, lived many horror stories while seeking care. The only thing going for them at the time was doctor house visits and neonatal care. All others over the age of 55 and up were placed on the backburner for care!
I agree that back in the 80's under Thatcher, the NHS went through a difficult time. Thatcher was a far rightwing Conservative who made made draconian cuts to the NHS' funding. As I said before, having recieved medical care in the recent past in the UK and Norway as well as the US, I can avow that the care I recieved in Europe was as good as, if not better than, the care I received in the US and an order of magnitude less expensive.
Nonsense. I happen to know a 86 year old widow living on Social Security. Very tight budget. But she recently got a $211 rebate from her health insurer, and the reason was a provision in the Affordable Healthcare Act that required insurers to spend 80% of the premiums for health care, or refund the difference. They had to refund the difference.
Nope, no threat to retiree fixed income. The health insurers did raise rates recently, but they announced those rate increases BEFORE the Affordable Healthcare Act was enacted! Those rates would have gone up even if that act had not passed - but those retirees would not be getting refunds...
Great Britain, as well as the rest of Europe, Canada, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand, have free societies with the vote, elected officials, and a free press. If their "socialized" healthcare was anywhere near as bad as some right-wingers portrayed, they'd be clamoring to change it - but that isn't happening, none of those socialized healthcare nations are considering dumping it, they certainly are NOT changing to the old fashioned pre-Obama US healthcare model.
That leads me to suspect that all the Teapublican wailing about how terrible socialized medicine is, is just plain baloney.
CM-6969#2.13: You are correct, and your suspicions are founded in fact, or, err, um, ah, tea party, and republican bullsh^t. Regards
Njofaustintx, you do realize that the 80's were nearly 30 years ago, right? That's more than just a little bit outdated. I know of people from the UK who less than a year ago will tell you that they get better medical coverage from their state provided healthcare, than they do in the US. They spend far less per person on average than we do, they have orthodontic coverage, and overall are more healthy than we are. Your assertions to the contrary are not based on any form of reality from the past 10 years. As someone else mentioned.... It suck so badly for them, that they have done little to attempt to change it. It's a shame that we are beholden by corporate interests to make money on our citizens health.
You'd think that even a moron could tell that the problem is health care cost, not the way it is paid. How many government programs cost less to administer than private ones?
rocky...regarding Pelosi/ReidCare (Obama had little to do with it): "The benefits to america far outway the negative."
Yep, just like Medicare, which has over $20 TRILLION in UNFUNDED liabilities. Pelosi/ReidCare will be the same, but hey, nothing wrong with a few tens of trillions of dollars of unfunded liability, nothing negative about that.
$80B in food stamps from the great food stamp president. They won't release information on where it gets spent though.
Fiesty, where do you spend your food stamps that we have to pay for?
Your welcome.
I confess, Red, Maine has one of the highest rates of food stamp use in the country - and one of the lowest in the number of non-white residents Maybe we should import some Hispanics to teach us how to work harder.
RedSox - I suppose the dig at Feisty makes you feel somehow superior? How totally pathetic!
Romney as usual says nothing and promises to tackle everything. Wonder how he would do if the Democrats promised to obstruct everything he tried. Thank heaven we won't have to worry about that!
Obama/Biden 2012
I don't know? may be you should ask Bush. after all he expanded the program.
So tell me SS, how do all your 'digs' at anyone with a dissenting opinion make you feel?
Way to go Chris@SLC---IT'S BUSH's FAULT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You guys are really desperate.
I gets spent at grocery stores. Geesh, what a friggin' moron!
Ahem.....when I was married to wife number 2 (she graduated from HS in 1976) and I lived in Maine, the only 3 black people I met were 3 sailors I played soccer with at Brunswick Naval Air Station, NAS Brunswick! Yep same town my second wife graduated HS from. Too bad Portland is considered Massachusetts by Mainers. Ayup! Amy is from away!
WCA - just fine thank you!
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has been running radio ads for the past four months encouraging those eligible to enroll. The cost of these ad's run us between $2.5 - $3.0 million dollars.
Here in California its called CalFresh.
If you own a car, you can still get CalFresh
If you own a home, you can still get CalFresh
If you have job, that's OK, you can still get CalFresh.
Hell, we even have booths at grocery's stores promoting CalFresh.
80 billion out of a 2 trillion dollar budget is pennies!!!!!
Corporate welfare is far exceeds this figure!!!!
We give the damned Isrealies 20 billion!!!!
Okay SeekingSanity, where is the fruit of everything Obama promised? I remember hearing folks say they were voting for him because he was going to pay their mortgags, decrease the deficit by surpassing the 2009 deficit record. I admit, Bush screwed up, all Presidents do but where are we at today? Ya'll will blame Bush but this current king has had plenty of time to fix something. Obama is a charismatic, he speaks well (with a teleprompter) but I don't see much change in the daily lives of most Americans. Unemployment is lower...but what figures or "stats" are being used? How many folks have just plain given up looking for work and moved to welfare? Collecting unemployment for up to 99 weeks, most making more then when they were employed, breeds laziness. Unemployment was 6.8% in November 2008. What is it now....8.2% as of May 2012. Are the welfare and those folks no longer able to collect unemployment considered in those stats. Are our returning veterans who were promised their jobs before they deployed and returning home to no job counted? I would have to guess but if you include all those people the true unemployment rate would hover nearer to 20%.
Well, the TARP bailout and the auto maker bailout laws were signed by Bush, and even the infamous "Fast and Furious" program started while Bush was in office. So sometimes it really IS the fault of Bush! That applies to the expansion of the food stamp program, too.
But take heart, if Teapublicans win in 2016 (unlikely, but miracles happen...) then they'll be able to blame Obama for something. What, I don't yet know, but they've been trying to shift the blame for a long time, and they might eventually succeed.
As far as "food stamp president" that title belongs to George W. Bush. No one else is responsible for putting more people on food stamps than the man who trashed the American economy and put sooo many people out of work!
...the numbers for Bush's last three months in office. Between October and November, 597,000 jobs were lost; between November and December, 681,000 were lost; and between December and January, 741,000 were lost.
Bush increased food stamps? Man am I confused. All the Dem/Libs have made it clear, in no uncertain terms, that Rep/Cons hate and despise the poor and would never, ever do anything to assist them, yet...
Where, oh where, does the truth lie?
Njofaustintx, repeating the lies told to you by Fox is dishonest. Unemployment compensation is normally half of your previous 6 months weekly pay before you lost your job. There is a limited ceiling for those that with high salaries. The limit in our state is $300. weekly.
Put yourself in the position of living on half(sometimes less) than what you used to make. Tell me again how many working stiffs are happy to exhaust their benefits instead of earning much more with a job. Unemployment compensation demands that you must have worked for the last six months. That describes a worker, not a lazy bum.
President Obama acted on immigration when Congress could not. That is not muddling things up, that is demonstrating leadership by making a decision.
Now if you don't like the path he chose, then comment on that, but to accuse him of lack of leading is inaccurate.
Then why did he not do it in 2009, or 2010, or even 2011......? Because he only did it because he is running scared and is worried about being ousted.
Just because a person is the President does not mean he is a leader. And I will comment on anything I damn well please.
GCCal - wow! Too much caffeine today, huh?
Yes, we saw in Bush how a President can be President and still no leader. Luckily we got a leader in President Obama. We just have to make sure we keep empty suit Romney out of office!
Obama/Biden 2012
Seeking........nope just a touch of reality compared to your illusions.
Obama was elected because he is black
Obama may be unelected because he is useless.
By the way seeking, why not give it shot....answer my question....why did Obama not commit in 2009, or 2010, or even 2011.....c'mon be a good little lib and give me a snappy answer.
GCCal - Obama was elected because he is black - There is no end to the bigotry with you right wingers.
You mean like some of these gems Team Red likes to toss out here on FR?
Their parents must be SO PROUD!
GCCal- no, President Obama was elected because he was the best person running. McCain/Palin (we have no problem with the economy) are you serious?
He'll be re-elected because of the same reason - he is the best running.
I voted not based on his color but based on the fact he was the best.
Obama made the mistake of trying to work with the GOP and got tired of the obstructionists. So, he did the right thing.
Romney would never do the right thing - or anything - unless those pulling his strings told him to!
Now tell me something smart - I don't care about snappy - just smart and not the same GOP talking points you've posted above. Pretty senseless!
Obama/Biden 2012
President Obama was not elected because he is black, he was elected because the republicans tanked our economy.
The republicans now think that because they blocked any bill that would help our recovery, we should blame the democrats and let the republicans tank our country again.
Now Romney wants to brings back the very same policies that tanked our country in the first place.
Why would Americans vote for a republican just to bring another recession so we can give more tax cuts to Romney and his rich friends?
The rich are donating millions and millions to lie to you so you will vote for the rich republicans and their tax cuts before voting for the economic security of America.
VOTE FOR AMERICA....VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT 2012
If you ask any 100 Independents for the reasons they voted for Mr. Obama in 2008 a lot of them will tell you there was a large historic value in their vote. Of course, White Democrats and liberals wont agree they have to appease their guilt of being white. Watch the University of Minnesota Duluth video. And of course the republicans wont say anything because they run from the racist chant they hear all fricken dayyyyyyyyy fricken long. You cant deny there was a historic value to Mr.Obama, Mr. Bush didnt help anyone either.
GCCal? Ever heard of the "DREAM" act? President Obama promoted it but it was Congress' job to write the bill, pass it and get it on his desk. Why didn't our President "git `er done"? Because congress is opposed to ANYTHING proposed by this President. Doesn't matter who's idea it was. Just on a count of...."we can't allow this President to actually accomplish anything", now can we?
jollyoldsoul1 - if you believe the crock you're trying to sell you truly are demented! We voted for the best candidate - nothing else. You just hate to admit that for the past two elections (and actually the two before) the GOP has had no candidate. Nothing!
Try your pathetic "logic" on someone who is as addled as you! You should be totally embarrassed to be you!
If you ask 100 Independents why they voted they will tell you what I did - Obama was the best person running. And, that's why they'll vote for him again in November.
Old Harry knows plenty about race relations - he told us his black neighbors know better then to bite the hand that feeds them once!
Real classy guy our Harry is!
Please don't call anyone on the left bigots after the examples of some of the crap you right-wing bigot/bully boys fling. Thanks Feisty for consolidating the nastiness. Most of these Republican wackos aren't voting for Romney, they are voting against Obama because he is half-black. They apparently think he snuck in to the White Office without permission.
GCGal, you find it inappropriate for the President to first try to work with Congress BEFORE he takes executive action? That's an astonishing concept to advocate for a nation that has three co-equal branches of government.
JT....then all the more reason Obama should have made this decision in 2009, 2010, or even 2011. If Congress would not do it why did he wait until now......ITS THE ELECTION BLUES.......
Ruthless........play your bigot card somewhere else.....I wanted either or both of Rice and Powell to run. Last time I checked they are black.
Seeking.....oh well, it is difficult to argue with a fool because you and Redhead will beat me everytime with your vast experience.
Man ...hard to top the fireworks in here! But CG it is fun to let them run like weebles....cause weebles wobble but they dont fall down. I know the broad side of a battleship when I see one..... and that's one right there!
Oh well, when faced with facts... stick your head back up your ass! lol
Neener... neener... neener! ;op
Those comments were from your side pal - you should be proud to be a member of the 21st century KKK!
So do I Harry - remember I've seen your picture! Your belly sticks out further then your dickey do's!
GCCal - you're right - it is difficult to argue with a foola like you and jollyoldsoul1. At least YOU admit that you have no logic or reason behind your silly views.
Obama/Biden 2012
Great!!!!! Instead of intelligent discussion on immigration, we get "neener, neener, neener!" How old are you, Feisty, two?
After this brief stupidity break, back to immigration. Whorebama wants to give away what thousands of naturalized American citizens have achieved through hard work, study, more hard work. Apparently you do not read anything beyond "articles" that support Whorebama's insanity and pandering. You should go back to last week and over the weekend and read the comments that some of these legalized emigrants wrote concerning this freebie that the Panderer-in-chief is passing out. At the current rate, he will be lucky to get 10 votes from legalized emigrants of ALL backgrounds.
Its ok Bob, Im running cover for the rest of you! lmao....... I am not as vocal as you but we agree in most areas Im sure. I still like to mess with people who think their Shyt dont stink. Since I live in Detroit I can and do mess with the suburban cherub! She always thinks she one step ahead of everyone..... Too bad ....Soooo sad..... See ya wouldnt wanna be ya! Ok Bob..... go back to being bad and righteous!
jollyoldsoul1 - don't know what suburbanite you're talking about - clearly one of the dummies on the far right. That's about all you can keep up with.
G'nite - some of us city women have things to do!
Here is the dealeo Seeking Sanity - Harry the fat @!$%# has been proven over & over & over & over & over again to be a serial liar!
Do NOT waste you time on this douche-bag!
Still waiting for him to regale us in his Viet Nam fantasies - this creep couldn't tell the truth if someone notarized his tongue!
Obama: private sector is "doing fine." My tush is doing much better!
Vote for "Wilfred" in 2012!
Ouch....Its still up! Im betting smushie by now!
The coarse language and personal attacks of a certain Red Head are again tolerated when she should have long ago been banned due to this vitriolic and personal nonsense.
Why so angry all the time?
As for Obama's leadership - he has been lacking time and time again. A leader is present, Pres Obama has logged more jet miles than the last 4 presidents combined.
A leader does not inflame or call names of their foes, they engage them. They negotiate, they work out their differences - see Clinton for a great example of a liberal working with conservatives. It can be done, and when done, worked very well.
Color doesn't matter - results do. His inflammatory rhetoric closed the door time and again on compromise, and it is sad that his lack of experience has cost us trillions - both as a nation, and as individuals.
I believe that Mitt Romney is a better solution, and I don't need to call anyone who disagrees with me nasty names nor do I need to ridicule them. We simply disagree.
On this one issue, I will have to agree with Romney, states must have the right to protect the legal citizens and interest of the state when the federal government insists on making parts of written law optional. The Supreme Court itself has ruled written laws may not be optional.
Since the feds are determined to go it alone on enforcement of illegal immigration without assistance from state law enforcement, maybe state law enforcement should cease assisting the feds on drug trafficking, money laundering, bank robbery, kidnapping and the likes.
It truely does baffle me why so many support those who show disdain for American laws and strive to crowd the line in front of those who patiently wait their turn to enter America legally....When laws become meaningless, we are truely lost.
@Feisty: You're right. Why waste time on the likes of "Jollyoldsoul1"? He/She, and so many others, are just laggard turd crumbs from the "rolling ball of republican bullsh^t". Much smell, but void any bloom, as they await the ferocious "tumble turds" and their ultimate fate.
Hear! Hear!
And here's an even better idea: if you don't like the path the President chose, then get off your fat, obstructionist, Republican asses and work with the Democrats to propose something more to your liking!
But you couldn't do that, could you? Because your obsessive desire to make Obama a one-term president trumps anything that might be good for the country! My hope is that the American voters will reward you for that with exactly what Republicans gave so many of the American people: unemployment!
Obama Lies, he had a Democratic Congress, and nothing got done.
Obama/Biden out in 2012.
Obama couldn't lead a girl scout out of a phone-booth, let alone run a pop-corn stand.
dobi - oh please - your stupidity is only overshadowed by your eagerness to show how stupid you are.
President Obama is ten times the leader and man Romney could ever hope to be!
Obama/Biden 2012
Well, has Willard led on any issue?
@dobi!...You lie.
The DREAM Act passed in the House, and was fillibustered to death by the GOP in the Senate!
Truth, not lies dobi!
He led on shipping jobs overseas....does that count?
Thank you chilled. My point exactly, but yours was far more eloquent.
@ Seeking I see you are still calling out everyone on their supposed lack of intelligence. You were never able to back up your exaggeration of GE moving 70% percent of their outsourced jobs back with real facts.... What is that old saying about people and glass houses... LOL
ksw- actually, read the article about 2 months ago and haven't been able to pull it back up. I'll let you know when I do.
You're right - you should never throw stones - you've got no game, at all!
Obama/Biden 2012
While he made tons of money for himself and his investors....Guess it does count screeminglib.
JT....Sometimes, the lies from the GOP are just too obvious.
Except he doesn't have a Democratic Congress. Funny how right wingers can give control of the House to the party they vote for and then claim they haven't.
As to whether Obama got anything done, why should giving control back to the party that created the recession make things any better?
Well, there are several instances where an Obama proposal got a majority vote in both the House and Senate, but the Senate Republicans filibustered it to death. The filibuster has been badly abused, it gives the minority party a veto power that isn't found anywhere in the Constitution.
I come on and read every-ones post every day. It is a sad state when there is so much bitterness slung about. Also I was lead to believe that the site was monitored and that personal attacks were not permitted. I am amazed at the amount of hate and personal attacks that do occur daily and nothing is said by those that monitor. And I must say, I have no dislike for feisty but she and others do get away with quite a bit of hate speech. It comes from people on both ends of the spectrum however. I did once enjoy reading other people thoughts on the world and national events. However now it is pretty much a place to show hate instead of debate. Oh well, I for one will not miss a moment of peace if I didn't come on here. For those who respect others enough to actually respectfully debate your positions, thank you.
From an article published in June, 2008:
...the Republicans of the US Senate have performed 77 filibusters during the current session. This count breaks the previous record of 58 filibusters previously held by the 1999-2002 Senate terms. Durbin stated, "We are asking to bring it forward for debate. If you have a better idea, put it on the floor and let's vote on it. But for the Republicans to consistently file these filibusters and object to bringing these measures forward to even debate them, and now it is a take it or leave it. The Senator from Arizona has filed, just like the minority leader did yesterday, this political get-well card which says: We will make a unanimous consent request so we are on the record wanting this. Get on the record and vote for bringing it to the floor for debate. Don't be afraid of a debate. Don't be afraid of an amendment. If you have a good idea, put it forward. Let's see if it wins or loses."
The bottom line is the next time anybody accuses the Democrats of not getting anything done, you can look across the aisle and clearly see why the Senate approval rating is so low.
And it continues unabated to this day! Republicans are a major source of "do-nothing" politics in Congress today. It is time to throw them all out!
So Willard, when are you going to clear up the "muddle" that is your position on the issue and tell us where you really stand?
And from Bakersfield, why did Obama not make this decision in 2009, or 2010, or even 2011........He only made it bcause he is scared of being ousted from the next election.
Talk about someone who is muddled.
You might as well give up trying to get an answer CGGal. The most intelligent remark the libbies have been able to deliver so far is "neener, neener, neener."
Bob in KC - and yet that is still much more intelligent than the stupidity you and GCCal can come up with! Go figure!
GCCal, for much of his term, Obama had this quaint notion that there actually might be Republicans of goodwill who would be willing to work with him for the good of the country. The fact that he took administrative action is hopefully a healthy sign that he no longer holds that noble buy misguided idea and will do what is best for the country.
GCCal,
You keep asking the same question, but you already know the answer. It was attempted via the standard way bills become laws, however it was denied due to the need for a super-majority, which didn't happen courtesy of all GOP and a few "blue dogs"... the majority was there, that is well known. The tactic worked, and now POTUS is going a different direction. Both are permissible tactics, regardless of whether or not they smell.
So now your question is answered... do you have a point other than to bash POTUS?
Al, you are simply not right. He constantly, and from day 1, attacked Republicans, called them names like a child, reneged on deals offered, and has spent more time outside DC than the last 4 presidents combined - traveling around the nation and the world campaigning and fundraising 24/7.
It's sad really, because he had a real opportunity. Had he acted like Clinton (sans the bad personal behavior) he would have been one of our memorable Presidents. As of now, he will be remembered only as a great fundraiser, and a terrible leader.
Clinton proved that a liberal can work with a conservative. Seriously - Newt was a much more difficult adversary than orange man Boehner.
From an article published on 5/13/09:
...when the RNC meets in an extraordinary special session next week, it will approve a resolution rebranding Democrats as the "Democrat Socialist Party."
From an article published July 10th, 2011:
Obama pressed the eight House and Senate leaders Sunday evening to continue aiming for a massive $4 trillion deal for reducing the debt. However Republicans appeared to be disinterested for such an ambitious plan and the political price it would require to pass in Congress. Instead, House Speaker John Boehner told the group that a smaller package of about $2 trillion to $2.4 trillion was more realistic.
The package of $2 trillion to $2.4 trillion in deficit reduction identified by the Biden-led negotiators would still require Republicans to accept some increase in tax revenue. Republicans walked out of those negotiations after they were unable to accept about $400 billion in new tax money that the White House proposed by closing loopholes, ending some corporate subsidies, and limiting the value of deductions for wealthy taxpayers.
"The Citizens United decision opened the floodgates for special interests to give unlimited amounts of money from secret donors in an attempt to defeat the president," campaign spokeswoman Katie Hogan said in a statement. "Therefore this campaign must and will continue to fight hard against the millions of dollars of negative advertising supported by Mitt Romney and his undisclosed special interest allies."
Romney and his backers, including super PACs, had raised a total of $402 million by the end of April, compared to $340 million raised by Obama and his backers.
What you fail to remember is that Gingrich resigned after the midterm elections in 1998. And, although Gingrich claimed credit for 4 years of balanced budgets during the Republican debates, two years of balanced budgets (in fact, those with the largest surpluses) occurred after he thrown out of the House by Republicans due to poor showing in the midterm elections. No, you are ignoring the fact that Obama has faced a much more hostile Congress than Clinton ever did.
Oh yes...by all means give the states wide latitude on how they control and enforce immigration law...let's see, 2 international borders, 50 states...that multiples the problem 25x.
This man is a genius. Maybe, he's planning a leveraged buy-out?
He didn't say wide, he said some. Can liberals not understand basic English?
We have 4 border states with Mexico that have profoundly different problems than say Illinois or Colorado.
Any reasonable person would agree that they might need some latitude with regards to illegal immigration.
President Obama and Big Sis just proved this theory right, as just hours after this ruling was made public, Big Sis of Homeland Security commanded their AZ offices to stop working with AZ law enforcement. This is a treasonous and despicable act, for the federal government to declare war on the law, and leave our southern border wide open, with the state being hung out to dry.
King Obama has decided that he can do whatever he chooses, and that he is not the President of America, but instead he is the President of Liberals in America.
.
Poor Mitt all of his positions are clear as mudd, it's up to the public to figure them out, because remember his own words, "if I tell you my plans then you won't vote for me".
Mitt also said he kept his promises.
Is that like the promise he made to protect a woman's right to choose when running for governor?
Now he promises to overturn Roe v Wade. Looks like Romney has a new puppet master and Romney always does what he is told just like the bush puppet did.
You can believe a Romney promise for only as long as it takes for the words to come out of his mouth or the time it takes to shake his etch-a-sketch whichever is shortest.
When Romney was bragging about creating jobs he thought you meant overseas, not in America.
You honestly want to play the promises game?
Oh yeah, I forgot, when a liberal lies, they call it evolving.
It was Romney who invoked that his promises were always kept and were to be believed in his speech to lure Hispanic people to vote for him just the other day. If you claim to always fulfill your promises don't we have a right to look at them.
Romney always stands by what he said whatever it was.
Tell me how is it evolving when Romney stated that taking money out of our economy right now would cause a recession and now he has evolved to the point that he now believes that tax cuts for himself and his rich friends is the answer to all problems.
Tell me why does all of Romney's evolving such as outsourcing jobs overseas hurt America? Romney's tax cuts and wars will do the very same thing to America that bush's tax cuts and wars did for us.
Your biggest concerns is promises that the republicans have blocked President Obama from keeping and you think we should blame him for their obstruction.
Yeah that sounds smart let's just put the republicans back in power who destroyed our economy, have blocked any real recovery and now we should just hand back the keys because ..........?
The rich have hundreds of millions to buy ads to convince you to vote for them to have permanent tax cuts for themselves but they have no money for jobs for Americans. Sometimes I wonder if republicans ever think beyond their hate.
"Romney says he wished court gave states 'latitude' on immigration"
Ughhh... and doing so would be unconstitutional because it is the federal governments responsibility to legislate immigration law.
However, you Mr. Romney really don't give a damn about whether a person's constitutional Forth Amendment right against unreasonable searches and seizures or their rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are trampled upon, because you lack the intestinal fortitude to stand up to your own mother.
I guess that only when the day arrives where the police begin to stop white men on the streets and ask them for "their papers" will Mitt and the Tea Baggers finally "get it."
America.... on the verge of a revolution. All because we seem to learn from history, that we really never quite learn from history.
Remember this quote from a real tall guy? "A house divided against itself, cannot stand."
Na. You don't remember do you?
Then tell Obama to STOP DIVIDING THIS HOUSE.
GCCal - tell the GOP to STOP DIVIDING THIS COUNTRY!
And do tell Gov. Scott Walker to STOP his admitted "Divide and Conquer' Strategy!
Never has our nation been as divided as it is now, after 4 years of Pelosi / Reid chaos, and 3.5 years of Obama parading around the nation calling nasty names, lying about his opposition, and pitting one American against another.
Obama has redefined division, and it is on display in his every action.
How else do you explain the Homeland Security chief telling their AZ office TODAY to stop taking calls from AZ law enforcement? Hyper-partisan political poison from Obama & Co.
There, corrected.
Let me guess - you got that from the Fox News libel factory? Figures. They have no qualms about making stuff up to make Democrats look bad.
Should you happen to get elected Mr. Romney, we'll be counting on real Americans in the senate to filibuster every one of your pathetic ideas!
Unfortunately, it appears Willard Mitt Romney has not read the U.S. Constitution. Perhaps Mr. John Boehner can supply him with a copy.
Have you?
I have, but the average teapartier (and Romney) doesn't have a clue. The US Constitution gives the Federal government exclusive control over immigration and foreign relations.
I was an enumerator for the 2010 census, and I ran across 2 teaparty types who thought the census questions were "unconstitutional". The US Constitution gives Congress the right and responsibility to write the rules for the decennial census, every question on the census form was approved by Congress, therefore every question on the census form was fully Constitutional.
Of course he hoped the states would have more say so, then he woudn't have to worry about coming up with a policy on that one!
Nice example of the Romney Two-step: Pander to your base while showing your ignorance of the U.S. Constitution. Whatta putz.
I highly doubt you know the US constitution well enough to have a qualified opinion on this.
I highly suspect that gcooper8 knows the US Constitution better than Romney does. The Constitution gives the Federal government exclusive control over immigration, not the states.
Gov. Romney has apparently forgotten that the Supremacy Clause specifies that States must follow federal law whenever a conflict arises between State Constitutions or State Law. Where federal law exists (and in the case of Arizona SB 1070 it did) the federal law takes precedence especially where the State Law directly infringes on or interfers with the "accomplishment and execution of the full purposes and objectives of Congress . . " (source: Edgar v. Mite Coporation, 47 U.S. 624 (1982)).
Hmm... ok. How is this relevant here? AZ law does not conflict or interfere with federal law at all.
The interference is created when it becomes impossible to physically comply with both federal and state law. Therefore when the state law interferes with the federal law the state law must give way. If you read the decision, this aspect is discussed starting on page 8, first full paragraph.
Joe,
The Supreme Court said that is exactly what the Arizona law does. Read the opinion. I did.
Romney is side-stepping the issue as much as Obama.
But the Obama fans don't mention that Obama has deported more illegals in modern history than any other president. Then, in an election year, he offers selected amnesty as a purely political pandering to Latinos. As uaual, the details leave a lot to be desired with the information provided, the temporary status and the criteria itself. Better to stay in the shadows.
Any illegal Latino foolish enough to believe in Obama deserves deportation.
i'm still waiting for the illegal alien Obama to be deported
SteveInJuno - you're a blithering idiot!
seekingAclue...
tick tock... tick tock... time for a change
SteveInJuno - you prove my point - there is absolutely no sanity to be found in the remains of the GOP - stupidity abounds and you head the group. The change we need is to get rid of the GOP - grumpy old perverts!
Actually, I have, several times, to those idiots who think Obama got into office because of votes from illegals. Reality does tend to overturn their worldview.
"Selective amnesty", a contrast to the wholesale amnesty that Reagan pushed for and got, or the wholesale amnesty that Bush Jr. proposed and didn't get. Had his proposed "Dream act" been enacted, there wouldn't be "political pandering to Latinos" in an election year, it would already have been in effect. So, instead, Obama used provisions of the existing immigration law, because the Republicans filibustered immigration reform.
The name of this country is The United STATES of America. Socialists have always argued for an all powerful Federal Government. Northern Mexico is a war zone and the border states need to protect themselves. Why isn't the Mexican army there? The Mexican Government expects the US to deal with it. God help you Arizona because King Hussein continues to fiddle while you burn. BTW: someone above said they were going to a "nice part of Detroit", really? Be careful it's 90 percent Democrat.
RevSharppain - you're a raving moron!
Seeking...how much time have you spent in .... lets say Reynosa or McAllen tx...... Pharr tx? Im there all the time, my company has several manufacturing facilities and shipping facilities on both sides of the border. The last time I was in Del Norte I had a Mexican army humvee come up side of me ...with a mexican soldier racking a 50Cal and swinging it in the top mount around my car and out into the point position. Life is not fun in that area....our mangers live in compounds with attack dogs for protection.
Yeah, such well known "socialists" as the first President, George Washington (Federalist party), or the socialist "you can't secede from the union" Abraham Lincoln.
No logical or rational connection to the troubles in Mexico, BTW.
it doesn't matter.
Obama's fuked up so much at this point... nothing can save him
Mitt said EXACTLY what the conservative base wanted to hear; nothing more and lacking all details. Just another case where Mitt will say anything you want to hear in hopes that you will vote for him.
True... true.
Don't forget the Libertarians. Roll back the power of the bloated Federal government and give more autonomy to the states. Ron Paul supporters like to hear that too.
socialism sucks.
good luck in November Obamaites... you'll need it.
All you have to do to "take on immigration" is to enforce the current laws on the books. This will accomplish ALL the goals that Romney mentioned.
SteveInJuno - socialism - wouldn't know. I live in the good old USA where we have a Democracy. Too bad you're stuck in some socialist country!
do your parents know your on their computer again?
almost bed time little boy
Except that socialism and democracy are not mutually exclusive. In fact they refer to different things. May want to get your GED first before commenting here.
thanks little Joe.
i'll keep that in mind when we become Greece soon.
There is no such thing as a "pure" democracy or republic. In fact there are many aspects of socialism that have directly improved economic/capitalistic opportunities. Highways (paid for by your tax dollar though a program started by President Eisenhower), fire departments (paid for with your tax dollar provide for the safety of your property should a nearby one have a fire), police departments (protect us all), and even public libraries (one of Glenn Beck's favorite institutions) have all contributed to both the public and private good.
If I recall correctly, in St. Petersburg AK there is a building that is BOTH a library and a fire station (or was years ago). So I guess that even in AK they "practice socialism."
"In my first year I will make sure we actually do take on immigration... in a way that provides people here with skill and expertise that we want," Romney said. "
Good ol' Mitt. He can't see people for anything except a potential resource. We want 'em, we let the ones in we can use already. End of story. Now me, I'd like that too, but I'm thinking also, just give us people who want to come here because they share our values. Then they can learn the skills and expertise that THEY want to use, as much as such that WE find readily usable.
Mitt is about as Real as a Plastic Bananna!
Is it Mitt ____________Romney?
“Country Club”
“Middle Class Warfare”
“Not To Much..Out of Touch”
“Profits Over People”
“Corporations are People Too”
“F da Poor”
“Let Detroit go Bankrupt”
“Pray da Gay Away”
Mitt Romney’s Solution to all Problems…….Prayer and a Moment of Silence.
you don't have to let Detroit go bankrupt, just give them more guns and ammo
like Chicago the detritus will take care of itself
more welfare, that's what we need.
what poor?
this country doesn't know what poor is.
1 in 3 on govt assistance is clinically obese
overweight, indolent, uneducated and unmotivated leeches
And that is just Counting da TeaBilly's in da Trailer Parks!
You BetCha......Fer Sure.
jst... that's right...once we start counting the inner city blacks we are probably at a 80% obesity rate.
And as soon as the teabaggers run into a rough patch, they'll be first in line for the handouts. While thumbing their noses at everyone else in line.
Old Mr. Flip Flop said just enough to telegraph his true feelings on the immigration issue. Now he's toast with the Hispanic voters.
