Last night I watched a special Dateline on NBC where they followed the stories of 3 middleclass families struggling to stay out of poverty. It highlighted programs in Colorado geared to helping middleclass people get back on their feet. Colorado voters actually agreed to raise property taxes $20.00 a year to pay for it. The guy who designed the program said "we have to invest in the middleclass." It also addressed healthcare as a huge problem for unemployed people, and made an excellent case for the Affordable Care Act (not in so many words, but when you see a woman stockpiling diabetes medicine for her daughter before she loses her insurance, you get the message.) This was a pretty good show, and I would hope the msm starts focusing more on the real people behind the issues.
Thanks for decimating the middle class, Obama. "Invest in the middle class", my foot.
They invest in more government dependency.
The reason for optimism for the families shown in this show, is the Mom said, she hated to have to accept handouts, she was ashamed, and she was determined to stop it. She had the pride and self reliance to do what it takes.
This attitude is what will make her succeed. The Obama Administration and liberals want her to lose this pride, give up and become another long term welfare dependent. That is their goal.
Bob in Virginia - again refusing to face facts. It is the GOP that is decimating the middle class and any intelligent person knows this fact. You can rant and rave all you want but the truth is that the GOP is to blame - no other party.
Your lies are beyond belief. The Obama administration wants to help people when they need it but also help them become self-sufficient again. You just couldn't write the truth no matter what. It must be disgusting to just be able to regurgitate lies the way you do day after day!
But Amy, aren't those the same people who are constantly accused of expecting hand-outs and "sitting on their butts waiting for their welfare checks"?
They are not lazy. As you said, they are middle class Americans asking for a hand up not a hand out. Unfortunately, just like Colorado, programs like those are being cut all over the country.
